The annual prospect tournament set to begin on September 12

NEW YORK, August 12, 2014 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today the team’s roster for the 2014 Traverse City Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. The Blueshirts are making their eighth consecutive appearance in the eight-team tournament. The Rangers’ prospects begin the tournament on Friday, September 12 with a matchup against the Dallas Stars’ prospects.

New York’s roster features 23 prospects, including 2014 draft picks Brandon Halverson (photo above), Keegan Iverson, Ryan Mantha, Richard Nejezchleb, and Daniel Walcott. Six prospects on the roster played for one of the Rangers’ minor league affiliates during the 2013-14 season, while eight also represented the Blueshirts during the 2013 Traverse City Prospects Tournament.

Quebec Remparts v Drummondville VoltigeursTwenty players on the roster also participated in the Rangers’ annual Prospect Development Camp during the first week of July, including 2013 draft picks Adam Tambellini, Pavel Buchnevich, Anthony Duclair (photo left), and Mackenzie Skapski. Four prospects – Buchnevich, Duclair, Halverson, and Iverson – participated in evaluation camps for their respective countries earlier this summer in advance of the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The Rangers will be competing in the “Ted Lindsay Division”, and face-off against Dallas, Buffalo, and Carolina in round-robin play. Following the Blueshirts’ first game on September 12, the team will play the Sabres’ prospects on Saturday, September 13, and the Hurricanes’ prospects on Monday, September 15. The Rangers’ placement following the round-robin games will determine who they will play in the placement game.

In the seven years the Rangers’ prospects have participated in the Traverse City Tournament, they have reached the Championship Game twice, and won the tournament in 2007. Current Blueshirts Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan, Marc Staal, and Carl Hagelin all represented the team at the tournament in recent years.

Even with his new piles of cash, PK Subban is still having nightmares about having THE Kreider blow past him for 3 or 4 games every year for the next 8 years

  3. Does anyone want to play Fantasy Football this season? My league has a few spots open. The buy in is $50.

  4. Manny

I think you should pay to people to be in your fantasy league and not the other way around because your fantasy league sucks.

  7. Great Day with the Cup.

I wish I would have been up the night before, it would have been more fun to hit the “hot spots” as a college kid.

Green takes the cup to all HIS favorite spots. His favorite breakfast, golf course, Judy’s Tavern, and the Red Pepper – which every student has had on the way home from the bars.

Then the Cup gets handed to Tony Gasparini, a scout from Grand Forks that also gets his name on the Cup.

A Good Hockey Day all around.

  8. Gravy – as far as sour grapes go, this is a small silver lining. Yes I wanted the Rangers to win!

But if they can’t win, I’m ok with it going to a Fighting Sioux Alumni player. Especially one that brings it back to his college stomping grounds.

This year 2 “Sioux” Names go on the cup. Greene’s again, and Gasparini’s. The son of the SIOUX head coach – when I was in college.

Alex Martinez – the one that scored the game winning goal against the Rangers in Double overtime :(

Is a King because Gasparini scouted his play after he was passed up on his draft year. The Kings took him in the 3rd round in 2007.

So if you’re a HOCKEY fan, it’s a pretty good story all around.

Besides there’s not A LOT going on this week.
