  1. Too bad Rooney got hair-plugs, I think he scores that header last game without the extra hair. If he does they might still be in the tournament. Being pretty only helps latin players.

  2. Carped…

Quit worrying about approval all the time, just voice your opinion validation be damned ;)

Wasn’t Bradley’s dad the USA coach for a while?

I think a boring safely played draw is pretty likely.

How is pronger on LTIR every freaking season not some sort of cap violation?

  3. Doodie Machetto on

UK, I agree on the defensive midfielder front. Can’t believe Carrick was left out. But I think Henderson was meant to be that player for your side and I think he’s pretty good there.

You do need defensive help, except on the right with Glen Johnson. But losing Terry, Ferdinand, and Cole in one World Cup cycle has been very tough (even though Ferdinand didn’t play in 2010). Baines is garbage. Jagielka is OK, but he can’t be your best center back. You basically need Jones and Smalling to develop into a top pairing at United.

But putting that aside, I still think your midfield is the problem because you have too many of the same player, and it’s too hard to turn away those excellent players just because only 1 can play in each roster spot.

  4. Doodie Machetto on

I think Bylsma is waiting for the right opportunity. He’s already making a boat load to not work. No need to rush into a job that will hurt his future prospects, such as Florida.

A lot of teams are waiting to see what happens with Babcock. Bylsma could be the consolation prize for those teams.

  5. Doodie Machetto on

iWicky, he stays on there until his retirement papers are filed. Helps them during the regular season, but I believe he’s still on their books during the offseason 10% overage period.

  6. London Broil on

Doodie, your analysis of England is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

  7. I’m gonna go ahead and say this: Hartnell sucks. He’s a ring leader for distraction and lack of *focus*

  8. Doodie Machetto on

Because if your riposte is anything about Leighton Baines being anything other than garbage, I’ll still feel pretty content with my analysis.

  9. Wasn’t umberger with the flyers before and didn’t, he get traded for Hartnell once before?

  10. London Broil on

Carrick is a holding midfielder. Gerrard is the defensive midfielder. Reason England failed was because former Liverpool Roy Hodgson picked mostly a Liverpool squad. Their squad succeeds under Brendan Rodgers passing & attack system. Glen Johnson, as Liverstool supporters will attest, is trash both offensively and defensively. One good pass to Wayne Rooney for a tap in doesnt change that. England’s constant reliance on Gerrard has continued to do them in. Leighton Baines is a fullback & he isn’t garbage. Chris Smalling can play both fullback and centreback & is garbage in both positions.

  11. Doodie Machetto on

After reading that, I still feel very good about my analysis.

Maybe follow your own advice sometime.

  12. London Broil on

hey wicky, how’s the baby? cant wait to meet your awesome family someday soon with the Blogmama!

  13. Like the trade for flyers. Same cap hit 4.75 vs 4.6 basically hartnell has 5 yrs left umberger 3 yrs

  14. The greatest part about the World Cup is that the referees carry Shaving Cream in their holsters and spray it on people’s feet when they are getting too antsy. Love it.

  15. ORR – thanks for sharing that hit.

WOW! Now that’s a the hardest clean hit I think I’ve ever seen. Umberger turns to Hamburger in one hit.

  16. Doodie Machetto on

I see how it works for both teams. Flyer get out of last two years of Hartnell’s contract while Columbus gets the better player in the short-term. I just think Philly should have done better on the return. Umberger kinda sucks, and without getting immediate cap relief, this wasn’t really worth it for them.

Columbus wins the trade, even if those later years of Hartnell will be problematic for them. Two extra years of Hartnell, when the cap is surely to rise, are worth having the first three years of him over three years of Umberger.

With the salary decrease for Hartnell, he could have value for a budget team to help them reach the cap floor as the cap rises. Hell, Columbus could even be that team.

  17. DJ – I wouldn’t call a soccer player a “pansie” sport. I would venture to say that a Pro Soccer & a Pro Hockey player are in equal shape to play the sport at the highest level.

I just don’t like the diving in either sport. So I will agree with you on THAT note.

  18. It’s a win/win trade. Columbus gets a better player out of the deal, give up a 4th rounder to make it “even”. Columbus has some solid draft picks, a core of Ranger Blue, and a good goal tending. They could knock Philly out of the playoffs with that trade.

  19. jody shelley ?@shelleyhawk45 5m

I couldn’t be happier for the #CBJ organization today, adding not only an exceptional teammate but an even better person! @Hartsy19 WELCOME!

    Brandon Dubinsky ?@BDubi17 6m

Welcome @Hartsy19 to #CBJ …look forward to it!

    Brandon Dubinsky ?@BDubi17 5m

@Umby18 great playing with you brother! Good luck in Philly!

  20. Orr, you forgot to mention that, thanks to our NYR’s, the Habs have been exposed to a national audience as big time divers and whiners.

  21. Terrible trade for Philly IMO. CBJ are only getting better. Somewhat surprised that Hartnell waived his NMC to go there though.

  22. Flyers view it as an easier player to flip, with his contract 2 years shorter. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Umberger is traded at the deadline for another draft pick & a prospect.

  23. Lev I think Hartnell has a better chance of winning in Columbus, they have goal tending, and younger core of players. Flyers are getting old, and not a lot of talent after Giroux.

  24. By the way, for anyone that cares….

Boston vs Montreal Regular Season October 16th

    Looking forward to those!

They also play once in pre season, but I’m sure Michelle Therrien wont play -Rocky Dennis- Dale Weise or Emelin in that game.

  25. Doodie Machetto on

The officiating isn’t why we lost. Not being able to hold two goal leads is why we lost.

If you put yourself in a position where one or two bad calls can decide your fate, then you haven’t put yourself in a good enough position.

  26. If you count the OT’s than the series against the Kings went 7. Great showing.

  27. The only play where you could blame the officiating is the goal they allowed Hank to be interfered with on. There may have been bad calls, but penalties could have been killed, forecheck could have been better, etc.

  28. Ridiculous the NHL wouldn’t let Greene sign for 14 years because you know that’s what LA would have preferred.

  29. why would somebody give up anything for Stralman’s rights … they can start talking to UFAs in two days.

  30. Ok I think I finally figured out who the Topo nickname is for… but now I’d like to knpw why.

  31. Carp
I wouldn’t if I was a GM, but if someone really wanted him (especially considering the contract Markov got), might get a late round pick.

  32. Topo, Hags, Boyler, Carcillo stopping up shower drains at MSG. Plumbers’ Union: Have to get rid of two of them.

  33. _why would somebody give up anything for Stralman’s rights … they can start talking to UFAs in two days_

I guess if you think he’s underestimating his own market it might be worth it to get an exclusive window.

  34. Thanks Carp… funny but a bit harsh. Guess if Boyle gets sent somewhere else I’ll start using The Gigio here.

  35. CCCP learned from Manny to never ask a question that you don’t already know the answer to. :)

  36. Is Topo = Nash?

    I guess I haven’t been following the blog much lately to be up to date with all the cool nicknames {sad face}

  37. Doodie Machetto on

Disagree with Modano going in first ballot, I’ll buy all of the others.

  38. Zucc only wishing he was a UFA rather than a RFA. He’d drop all of us like a hotplate of Welsh Rarebit.

  39. So… nobody want to know how I was able to post three identical comments three times in a row??

  40. Now that hockey is over, we can turn to other items of interest:

    ‘They’re rioting in Africa,
    They’re starving in Spain.
    There’s hurricanes in Florida,
    And Texas needs rain.
    The whole world is festering
    With unhappy souls.
    The French hate the Germans,
    The Germans hate the Poles;
    Italians hate Yugoslavs,
    South Africans hate the Dutch,
And I don’t like anybody very much!

    But we can be tranquil
    And thankfull and proud,
    For man’s been endowed
    With a mushroom-shaped cloud.
    And we know for certain
    That some lovely day
Someone will set the spark off,
And we will all be blown away!’

  41. Wow…and ouch…

And hopefully, this can be the thing Thoresen becomes best-known for here in North America. Until now, it was his stint which the Philadelphia Flyers, and most notably, the testicle he lost blocking a Mike Green shot as a member of the Flyers in 2008

  42. ‘Over there, over there,
Send the word, send the word over there –
    That the Yanks are coming,
    The Yanks are coming,
    The drums rum-tumming
    So prepare, say a prayer,
Send the word, send the word to beware.
We’ll be over, we’re coming over,
And we won’t come back till it’s over
    Over there.’

  43. Reporter to Tug McGraw, Mets old reliever:

“Do you prefer natural grass or artificial turf?”

    “Dunno, never smoked artificial turf.”

  44. @mikemorrealeNHL

The Traverse City (Mich) Prospects Tourney, Sept. 12-16, will again feature prospects from BUF, CAR, CBJ, DAL, DET, MIN, NYR and STL.

  45. *AFTER PICS* for The 5th Sometimes-Annual, 2013-2014, Paul Mara Playoff Beard Contest are going to go up this week despite most of you not submitting them.

  46. Also, I’m not doing the side by side comparison. I think it’s relatively pointless. Does anyone have any severe objections?

  47. Doodie Machetto on

I have a severe objection to the whole contest because it’s *RIGGED.* I’m sure Wicky would back me up on this.

  48. ThisYearsModel--If ya ain't first, yer last on

Nobody wants to coach the Penguins. HA! Pretty funny. Guess nobody wants to be Mario’s waterboy.

  49. I will just take that as no complaints. It takes me like 4-5 hours to combine the pics.

  50. You have no lawn to mow. A leaf falls on the balcony, you call the super and his assistant with a rake.

  51. I thought Pepino was the little italian mouse… at least according to Lou Monte!

  52. Carp is THE still a prospect, when he’s been playing on the top line for most of the year?

  53. THE just finished his rookie year for the 3rd year in a row. Right :)

He is no longer eligible for the Calder.

  54. Doodie Machetto on

Should take you less since people didn’t send after pics.

Stepan played with a broken jaw and you can’t combine pictures?

  55. Doodie Machetto on

Would love to see THE in Traverse City. DOMINATION. Would get puck on one end of the ice, carry to the other, score 1000000000 goals. It would be like me playing NHL 94, no line changes or offsides.

  56. I’ve found that people who say something will take seven to ten days. it really takes them 10 minutes, then they sit around picking their nose for ten days watching “The Young and the Restless.”

  57. Miller/Fast/Allen/McIlrath have played some games, Miller over 30, but doesn’t stick.

They feel/look/skate like prospects, but NOT THE, He’s THE REAL DEAL.

  58. Better question who replaces Richie Richer’s minutes next year? Lindberg or Miller? Will DMOORE sign and move up?

  59. Few years ago, pitched a tent on Pete Seeger’s 17 acres in Beacon, NY. He called the cops. I said, “I thought this land was made for you and me.” He said, ‘I changed my mind.’

  60. London Broil on

Zuccy is an amazing player, he’s the whole works. NYRFan was spot on about Zucc right from the start, never wavered in his belief in Zucc. Props.

  61. I asked him, “Where have all the flowers gone, my brother?”
He said: “Get off my property.”

  62. How is the single MOST dominant player of the 1990s not in the Hall of Fame?

I guess everyone who played in the era wants to forget how boyish Lindros made them look.

  63. Paying Nash $7.8M for each of the next 4 years is an even dumber move.

    Nash sucks.

The sooner he goes, the better.

  64. bull dog line on

which one ORR, JVR, or Eberle. me I would make the JVR trade (Toronto would not). Eberle, no way. Hall yes, Eberle no.

  65. ThisYearsModel on

It would be the THE-VAN line. Awesome. They could have Miley Cyrus at center and nobody would touch her.

  66. Eberle, Hall. Two damn good players.

Nugent-Hopkins still has a lot to prove. They could have drafted Landeskog!

Yakupov, I have a feeling he’s going to be bit of a bust.

Now they have the 3rd overall pick. How is this team not in the playoffs with all these top picks? Crazy!

  67. bull dog line on

Staal makes a lot of sense for Edmonton. thinking about it more, I would want RNH from them. the center position is more valuable.

  68. bull dog line on

I think Pouliot, and Moore stay. Stralman a maybe. depends on how much he wants to cash in. Boyle is gone. someone is going to overpay him.

  69. Staal already has a 1.5 million dollar raise built into his next season salary at $5,450,000. He wants more, and long term. He may be on Slat’s list, not because he doesn’t want him, just dollars.

  70. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan THE logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

I find Eberle and RNH kinda puny and weak. They would n’t last against a Philly . I’d take Yakapov , hes dynamic and they want him outta there.

  71. Nuge i would take in a heartbeat – the kid is still young but already is looking the business and will be a #1 center for years to come. He will naturally fill out his frame so just needs to add some muscle.

Yakupov will disappear into the KHL wilderness in a year or two – i don’t see him being any more than Nik Zherdev “lite”.

  72. Top of the Morning Boys!

So you get the #1 Draft pick this year, who do you PICK? WHY?

  73. Now who is the Diamond in the Ruff at Pick #59?

Who are the two players that will be picked 49-59-69???

  74. Coos I have a stray cat living in my bushes, I’m not bringing it in, what do I do with it?

  75. Doodie Machetto on

I don’t watch the awards show, ever. Such a waste of time. The only things that interest me are the results and the voting behind them.

  76. I’ll DVR the Awards, much better things to do after work, if it doesn’t rain.

Live Everyday like its your last, make the best of it, Read, Write, & Run!

  77. Doodie Machetto on

If it’s my last day on earth, the last thing on my list would be exercising.

  78. Doodie I hate to be a downer, but I had a friend at work that was training for his first Ironman contest in Hawaii. The race where you swim 3 miles, bike a 120 miles and run a marathon.

His last day on earth was Saturday morning. He was on a 50 mile bike ride, and a truck rear ended him on the highway. Such a sad day :(

  79. The only people who like to workout are on that stupid TV show _Millionaire Matchmaker_ because they can’t think of any *actual* interests that they have to they just say “Working out!” because they want to highlight how hot they are.

  80. Too true Manny.

To be that “wealthy” that the only work you do for the day, is to “workout”. I live for that day :)

  81. So in honor of my buddy Dave, I got up and played golf with “him” this morning. I have the course to myself so I play two balls :) Dave won!

  82. Lebron on Broadway playing in Jackson’s game, in the biggest city.

That would light up the town!

  83. Rob in Beantown on

Garth Snow just traded a third round pick for the rights to negotiate with Lebron.

  84. Sorry to hear about your friend, Sioux. That is depressing news.

Sadly, it is not uncommon. I once volunteered as District Legislative Representative for League of American Wheelmen (in the days before the female members lobbied to have the name changed to League of American Bicyclists) sending out legislative alerts and news to members in my district of Manhattan. I felt like an obit writer sending out bad news of well-known cyclists who had been struck and killed by trucks in the NYC Metro Region while out riding. Became such a depressing job, I eventually resigned. Efforts have increased awareness of sharing the roads with cyclists. Obviously, much remains to be done to prevent tragedies like the death of your late friend.

  85. Ty-My doesn’t seem so expensive when you consider he makes slightly less than Mike Richards for a year shorter in term, right?

(Sorry to hear, Sioux. That’s awful.)

  86. Rob in Beantown on

Garth Snow now looking to unload Lebron’s rights. Asking price is a 6th round pick.

  87. Poganski is a strong, north-south winger with some jam in his game. He skates well and is hard to contain when he barrels down the wing. He drives to the net hard and isn’t afraid to get into rough areas. He has a quick shot and hands to handle the puck. (August 2013)

Here’s my pick for #89 for the Rangers :)

  88. Sioux – sorry to hear that. I’m just training myself up for those (sprint or Olympic distance first!). I run 25+ miles a week and have started open water swimming recently. It always the cycling on the roads that worries me the most.

  89. It seems like today’s theme is to take players from a team that made the Final and trade them for players that finished about as far from it as you can.

  90. Remember when we traded for the best player on the worst team and made that team a playoff team?

  91. I also remember when we used to salivate at who was going to be our big name signing on July 1st and how many hundreds of points he would score and lead us to the Stanley Cup…..

  92. Doc – I feel you should have the same signature as Neil :)

Neil Greenberg analyzes advanced statistics for all sports and prefers to be called a geek rather than a nerd.

Here’s a great article out of the Washington Post.

Hey it’s hockey related about the draft, its a great read.

It makes you wonder how many players on the Rangers came out of the NCAA’s? AND the quality of the player we have. Perhaps Sather is on to something :)

  93. Sioux

    “Mommy, what does daddy do?”

“Daddy doesn’t do anything, sweetheart; Daddy goes to the guym.”

  94. UK – Please put the “blinking light” on your bike or wear something reflective, or both :)

The guy that hit Dave was reaching in his glove box to get something. So just be aware of everything, even if you stop to take a drink of water.

  95. I had a client that was riding a bike and got hit by a car. He was mostly fine. Suffered some broken limbs, etc. Got him a bunch of money. After the settlement he completed another Ironman.

  96. http://capgeek.com/armchair-gm/roster/27741

No clue who the Rangers would sign outside of players who are currently on the team, so I made this. Do these seem like reasonable raises for Brassard and Zuccarello? I can’t see Pouliot being a good signing because of unlikely magic continuing and his price for a likely third-line role, but the Rangers certainly have the space. It seems to me they would be smarter trying to sign a third-line center/wing unless they want Brassard to play third line for up to $4.5 million. Their top two lines could be already set.

  97. Looks like the new Knicks COACH makes more than any of our starters, sans maybe Nash and MSL.

  98. I’m not a basketball fan, but I will be a Knicks fan now that Phil Jackson gets to play the “Puppet Master” :)

  99. Funny how the Knicks haven’t WON a CHAMPIONSHIP since they had a Fighting Sioux Player on the team.

And neither have the RANGERS :)

James Patrick was on the team in 93/94, even though they traded him THAT year, they haven’t won the cup since.

    Just saying :)

  100. Spiderpig, don’t forget that we are gonna have waaaay more cap space than what you got there once we traid Nash for Kadri.

  101. Manny – I’m really at a loss on who to add. I’m scared to ruin this team. I’d be totally fine to bring back Pouliot were it not for all his stupid penalties. As it stands, I’m okay with it, but he doesn’t seem like anything special.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind Callahan making too much money on the third line, but not as much as he’s going to get elsewhere. $6M+ is crazy.

  102. Manny that’s like asking who do you love more
    1)Your Mother
    2)Your Wife
    3)Your Daughter

so I will go with D) all of the above.

    Final Answer :)

  103. Orr – Had Slats played him a game yes. Technically Kristo is not a Ranger yet. Wolfpack player yes.

Patrick played for the Rangers 10+ years. It’s all his fault I’m a Ranger fan :)

  104. I wouldn’t mind moving Dorsett to the West Coast. We really, really need some size. Especially if Boyle leaves. I fear that Boyle leaving means we NEED Pouliot. Which scares me. Also, I would like to see Lindberg get a shot since he supposedly plays pretty big and Miller has some weird attitude problem according to Vigneault.

I am worried about it myself. I don’t get how this can work without a trade.

also, Spiderpig, please email me paulmaraplayoffbeard@gmail.com I need to speak with you about FANTASY

  105. Sidney Liverlips:

“That being said, you have to find a way to elevate your game. I think for us, each round it gets tougher and tougher, there’s less space, it’s more physical, maybe we got away with a bit too much on skill during the regular season and weren’t able to grind teams down and play the way you see some teams have success in the playoffs. Keeping that in the back of our mind should help us going into next year.”

  106. I really wouldn’t mind Steve Ott either. But it has to be at the right price. I am not handing him a raise.

  107. Darren Dreger ?@DarrenDreger · 34m
A few days of detail work left on Matt Greene’s new contract with the LA Kings. Expected: 4 years, $10 mil…annual average of $2.5 mil.

    There goes that chance.

  108. Manny – Ott would be the perfect 3rd/4th line center, at the right price.

I said that a couple of days ago. He fits the mold if DMoore/Boyle don’t sign.

  109. I can’t see Steve Ott getting a raise, though he was paid a salary higher than his cap hit last season, so he might want to equal that if there is competition for him – $3.2 million.

  110. Manny they all tie together. Sioux/Hockey/Poker

I was a Ranger fan before I was a Sioux college student, and picked up poker, playing with the Dads on Hockey weekends out of town.

So it’s very much a “Bangers & Mash” kind of love. Make sense?

  111. Doodie Machetto on

Sioux, sorry to hear about your friend.

“James Patrick was on the team in 93/94, even though they traded him THAT year, they haven’t won the cup since.”

That’s a great argument to trade Kristo.

  112. Notta Doodie.

I was just looking who was ranked 59th.

Big Center that hits first, ask questions later.

That’s a Wicky type of player. so I had to share it with the rest of you. We need Centers that can hit, in 3 or 4 years.

  113. Yea. Greene fits their system and is an Alternate. Bringing him here would be putting an old slow horse on a team that likes to fly.

  114. Doodie Machetto on

    And there it is:

iginally, Iverson planned on going through the American college route. But even though he hails from St. Louis Park, MN., he dreamed of playing for the University of North Dakota instead of the University of Minnesota. The 17-year-old, however, changed his mind in favour of the major junior route during a hockey camp he took part in with the Winterhawks.

“A lot of people in Minnesota dream of playing college hockey and playing for the gophers,” says Iverson.” I originally thought I’d play college hockey, but I dreamed of playing for North Dakota just because I thought it would be a cool school to play for. But then I went to a Winterhawks camp and playing with some good players and NHL prospects I knew that this was the right fit for me. I wanted to make the jump from high school and I thought this was the best league to move on to.”

  115. _Greene fits their system and is an Alternate. Bringing him here would be putting an old slow horse on a team that likes to fly_ ….. that hits you in the mouth, clears the crease in front of Hank, and kills every penalty.

  116. Doodie – scouts honor – I didn’t know that, nor did it dig past the paragraph I copied. I just picked #59 ranked player our of tsn draft list.

  117. Greene ranked 7th on the Kings in terms of SH TOI in the playoffs. Among goddamn defensemen.

  118. So Greene will kill off some of the penalties that aren’t already being killed off by the other 5 defenseman (and the one guy who’s a healthy scratch)

  119. Boys I was looking at the biggest bang for the buck at 2.5 – 3.0 mil a year.

I didn’t say he was Stralmans replacement, but he could be just as good as defenseman at a lower price, a better value that fits under the cap.

  120. Right now Stralman is the most underrated defenseman in the league. As soon as he signs a contract he will be the most overrated defenseman in the league.

  121. The Kings top prospect on D is Forbort.

The one of the many players the Rangers could have taken over McBust.

  122. Although, wouldn’t McNabb be their highest rated Defensive prospect? He’s actually Pro.

  123. Ha. Gotta get my passport ready.

I customer just asked if I wanted to go to a game in Winnipeg? He asked which one? I say how about the Rangers game :) “We could do that” :)

    I love my job!!!

  124. Rob in Beantown on

Did we sign anybody yet or is the whole Rangers front office vacationing in Banfff?

  125. Spiderpig, here’s my thoughts:

    1) I think that THE and Brassard are in line for about $1M+ more between the two of them (like $4.5M for Brassard and $2M for THE).

    2) I don’t like Haggerty on the 4th line. I’m not 100% sure how he profiles, but I don’t think he fits there.

    3) They need to sign add at least 2 spare players. With the $9M left (if the cap is $71M), they could re-sign Stralman (or another D) and one of Boyle/Pouliot, in which case I’m OK with the rest of the roster. Just not sure it’ll be Haggerty as the 13th forward.

  126. Manny: “Stralman is the most underrated d man in the league”

My how the tables have turned ’round here!!

  127. I’m getting mighty curious as to what Sather has in mind this summer. Other than 18 holes and a massage every day

  128. I think I want the *exact* same team as Gravy next year, assuming we somehow don’t traid Nash for…

Love Richards on the 3rd line. Maybe for a tad less money. Miller needs a shot to play steady minutes but I really like him on the wing until he figures it out a little more.

Wishing/Praying McIlrath is good enough for 3rd pair RD.

  129. I’m fine with that roster. I would just prefer Lindberg get a shot in the NHL over Miller at this point.

  130. Marcel Goc is a UFA as well. He might be a fine addition to the team if the Pens don’t sign him. Good bottom six center.

  131. Rob in Beantown on

I gave you a Thumbs Up Gravy. But really you probably should have made more TRAIDS.

  132. Question shooting back to yesterday: Why didn’t Philadelphia compensate Columbus to buyout Umberger while taking Hartnell? He’s a “no Umberger” situation and, even if they like him, they’d pay less on the market. That trade confuses me more daily.

  133. I hear you, MD. I stopped being confused yesterday after I said “oh, it’s the Flyers” to myself a few times.

    It’s simple and it works.

  134. Doodie Machetto on

The more I play with Capgeek, the more I’m convinced that there’s just no way to bring back Stralman.

  135. Furlough him. I’ve seen too many speedy forwards turn him inside out going to the net. Too much $ for mediocrity.

  136. Behooves all FA’s to shop around. Whatever Slats is now offering the valuable ones will still be on the table July 2.

  137. Press adulates Richie and Stralman. Same guys who gave Girardi the third star just minutes after his epic multiple meltdowns?

  138. We like the original subtlety, Graves. Now we all feel like you think we’re just stupid. :)

Anybody that has Zuccarello coming in at less than 4 is dreaming. Led the team in points with almost 60.

  143. But he’s an RFA. His big numbers come in a couple years (if he stays healthy and keeps up his production.)

  144. Doodie Machetto on

RFA with arbitration rights. That’s a lot of leverage going into an arbitration. A one year award could approach 5 million with that kind of production.

  145. $5M!? Come on. That’s crazy talk. That was his first entire season in the NHL.

  146. Doodie Machetto on

Manny, I don’t want to hear anything more out of you if you want to keep your spleen.

In a one year arbitration award? For 60 points? Easily can see that happening.

He took the one year “show me” contract and showed them. I don’t see him getting less than 4, either by negotiated contract or by arbitration award.

  155. One (relatively) large year won’t bring him that kind of arb. Least I don’t think so.

  156. Doodie Machetto on

I wouldn’t pay him that, but it could be an arbitration award. 60 point players don’t typically make less than that.

  157. Sioux, very sorry about your coworker.

I do long distance bike trips (Berlin to Prague, Vilnius to Tallinn, Thailand/Cambodia and now doing Central Asia in August). First couple of trips I was worried sick about being rear ended. Not too bad in most of Europe (Czech Rep was kinda scary) but Thailand was a mess.

Not surprised what Canucks are asking from Chicago for Kesler. I’m surprised Chicago wouldn’t consider moving Teravainen for him. If they add Kesler that makes them absolute monster contenders for another 2 or 3 years. Push all the chips in now.

Teuvo Teravainen. Their top prospect by a mile. Probably between him and Drouin for the top prospect in the NHL.
