Let’s post more pictures of the Stanley Cup. Maybe we can all go kiss it and lift it over our heads while we’re at it?

iPad was as slow as Lundqvist closing up the five-hole last night

    usually it’s fine

  4. Carp – when the blog gets slow, must be when the traffic is high during Go Time. You post, and it takes 2-3 minutes, then the screen doesn’t allow you to comment. You have to close the window and go in and start all over. Last night, some comments took 3 or 4 attempts. After awhile you just give up, and move over to the widget side.

So Rene Bourque and Max Pacioretty would have been able to post last night.

Fair enough Carp! I guess I grade “great” on a scale…..aka “good enough”!

  7. Carp – it’s been like this for awhile now, but only during game times. I thought it was due to much traffic, not just ipads, it was the same with my new computer.

Breakup day Sunday Monday or Tuesday the latest. Ask Nash for me why he’s such a loser.

Can I trade my game three tix in to attend breakup day

  10. Doodie Machetto on

What I wouldn’t give to get into the dressing room for one day and be allowed to ask each player one question.

  11. I can confirm – at least on my iPad – that during the game, when attempting to post, it was super slow… taking almost a minute to actually register (maybe longer?) the post and refresh the screen. A few times I hit “add comment” again because so much time had elapsed that I wasn’t sure if I hit the button!

There was a problem last night. It actually started around 5:30. Most of youse were on your ways home from work and didn’t notice.

  13. Lohud fumbled when they started demanding you join Facebook to post. Comments went from large and building to a Saather trickle.

If *eric* gets to attend breakup day I think the NHL should film it for their “Becoming Wild” show or some other reality series.

  16. Manny, you’re right about new rules, new rules. God supposedly handed out ten commandments. Those, and an application of common sense should suffice.

  17. I can’t wait to start caravanning with the Rangers around the Upper East Side with the Cup

What do you think Duguay will do with it on his day? Forget it, On second thought I don’t want to know

Coos, this weekend my dad and I were joking that after the *Ten* commandments were given out Moses just stood there taking suggestions.

  19. BTW, Rangers have played 19 playoff games now … so those who cried “fatigue” in ’12 should start assuming they’re done.

  20. Afternoon all,

Eric, way to be positive about the team.

After 3-7. After being down 3-1 to Crosby and the Crybabies. Now, with the team on the verge of clinching the conference championship – and being able to do it at MSG, you’re still spewing that breakup day business.

Geez. I just don’t understand what the Prust you’re thinking about.

  21. While Carcillo is in the appeals process, is he available for the active player roster?

Especially if Dorsett gets a game for head butting.

Looks like it’s 4 games for NYR John Moore

  23. @rangersreport

Carcillo hearing Friday a.m. with Gary Bettman. Which means minimal suspension is three games.

  24. And I’m tired of Derek Jeter picking up cufflinks, Titleist golf clubs, vacations, pinstriped cowboy boots, Stetson hats, and etc. (just from the Astros) all over America. Just play shortstop, take two and hit to right.

  25. Matt, he is not available … that’s why it’s taking so long. It won’t be reduced to fewer than three games no matter when it happens …

and Dorsett’s going to get a couch-cushion change fine, or I will be shocked.

  26. And what does Gary Bettman know about hockey? May as well as use Marvin Hamlisch.

  27. Carp – Just a thought that’s been marinading but… I’m not sure I buy the lack of “caryover” in a series. Candidly, the last game will power both teams – The Canadians because it was a big win at home and the Rangers as they no longer need to fabricate urgency – they want to avoid do or die in Montreal.

When Hank pitches a great game, he rides that momentum. When Nash finds the back of the net, he harnesses that mojo (bad example).

Whether it’s dating, business or sports – I think momentum DOES carry over and the best of of the best in each of the genres knows how to have a short memory when it goes bad and is equally adept at channeling conviction around past experience as beneficial to the task at hand.

    Just my $.02.

I think the turning point in this series was GalPuckLuck’s OT winner. Canadiens were totally worn down and we couldn’t push the pace and make them play a bunch more minutes. Instead they score almost immediately.

  37. Dudley, if there is carryover, how did the Rangers lose Game 5 after winning Game 4? How did they lose Game 3 after winning Games 1 and 2? How did they come back from losing three in a row to Pitt? How did they come back after going down 0-2 to Washington, and after losing Game 5? Or the Ottawa series. Or the Philadelphia series.

Each game stands on its own. It’s only been that way for, oh, about 40 years and anybody who processes what they see understands that.

I’ve only been doing it for 35, or maybe 400 or 500 games, so what the hell do I know?

But if there is indeed carryover, then yes, this series is over.

But wait, LA twice lost three games in a row in these playoffs and, golly, the Kings are going to win the Stanley Cup, because their series with Chicago is over and they will carry that momentum into the finals. (sarcasm).

  41. If you are physically and emotionally drained, momentum does indeed belong to the opposition. We are not so drained, so it doesn’t apply here – but it has applied and will apply in other tilts in both sports and life.

  43. Met Girardi briefly at the NHL store on Saturday. His boy is getting better at knee hockey and he doesn’t do snow angels.

In all seriousness he seemed like a great guy.

  44. I don’t believe in “momentum” necessarily – particularly from game to game – but if they lose Game 6, then wouldn’t everyone say the Rangers are back to being underdogs for Game 7?? Even if the goalie match up is Tokarkski the “battler” v. Kind Henrik?

  45. Lloyd Braun on

have to point out that even though the Rangers won game 4, they’ve not looked particularly good since game 2 and have been outplayed in the last three. you may or may not want to refer to that as momentum since the Rangers won the middle game, but I don’t think the team has played nearly as well since being up 2-0.

The Rangers have been more undisciplined with the puck and the penalties as the series has progressed. That is a symptom of fatigue. They need to feed off the adrenaline from the crowd noise early tomorrow night.

  48. Nice of Gary to promptly address Carcillo’s appeal….if you think Habs and coach have been jerks so far wait until Rangers close them out….remember Habs character and class when Ottawa eliminated them last year…they were taking runs and slapshots at players at end of game

  49. I agree! I read that crowd noise is 55% adrenaline and only consumable by the home team!

  59. Manny,

Those stats you posted have absolutely nothing to do with how The King will perform tomorrow night.

In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if he delivered his best performance of the playoffs. He’s probably so pissed off about how last night unfolded for the team. He will do everything in his power to make sure the Rangers advance tomorrow night. And if by chance they don’t, who else would you rather have between the pipes for a Game 7?

  60. Jeff – there’s a Canadian low blowing in. Not to be confused with a Mexican high.

  61. Henrik ALWAYS does everything he can to prevent goals. Sometimes it doesn’t work; more often it does.

  62. Manny-O-War on

How do they not apply, Ben? He was pulled. So his numbers after being pulled should be indicative. You think he wasn’t pissed last time he was pulled?

Nothing would surprise us. We are Rangers fans. Expect the worst and hope for the best.

  65. Carp – Not knocking your considerable experience – simply sharing the thoughts that have shaped my personal opinion, which by definition, is mine.

I think labeling a win or loss as governed exclusively by momentum is unfair – momentum is but one variable and can ebb and flow by the minute, game or series.

Certain teams have other teams numbers – was not momentum on our side (with Filthy even acknowledging it) when we beat them something like 10 times in a row? Was that not partially thanks to momentum? And, that’s spread out over years….

In a series, individuals can harness momentum and teams can harness (or, on the flip side, loose it) it… I dont think it relieves me of needing to watch the next game to see what happens – but personally, I think there is a little mojo one and lost each time.

That being said, I think we’ll win big tomorrow and by big…. by at least one more than the soccer team from Montreal.

  67. Manny-O-War on

It’s a tough world for goaltenders since all the ones that are paid $8M+ *must* win the cup. A lot of disappointment for a lot of goaltenders.

  68. I’m with Kenneth, had no issue before- I’m kind of embarrassed for them now. Gionta says Rangers are wearing down- then why is Subban always sucking wind- power of suggestion? Rolling 4 lines and 3 sets of D up to now, and the Habs?- Canadiens are trying to talk their way through the round- lets not let them. Honestly, this series is all about us- ours to win or lose.

  69. Rob in Beantown, 100-Watt Warlock on

At that price point it’s just disappointment for *one* goaltender I’m pretty sure. He doesn’t *need* to win the Cup but I don’t think it’s unreasonable that a middling performance the next two games is really really inexcusable.

  70. The only thing you can absolutely glean from watching playoff series is that there are wild swings both ways, all the time. Virtually every series that’s not a mismatch and a sweep.

I’m just saying, Rob. Rask gets paid that and he didn’t win. Ryan Miller gets paid a lot and didn’t win. Luongo the same thing. So much disappointment.

  75. ABindy- take a look at last night’s TOI distribution and you will know why Subban was sucking wind. Also, pay attention at how much TOI Briere and company spent on the ice last night. Let them talk.

  76. Agree Coos about Klein. He had to be encouraged or green lighted to press last night, no? He hasn’t been that low as many times since he got here, as he was last night.

  77. We are likely to see two R handed D-men playing together tomorrow, with Diaz, hopefully, spending some time on PP.

  78. I know, Gionta was just as right on when he said that Moore’s hit was “a little later” than Prusts. How does the interviewer keep a straight face?

  79. WhoNeedsLohan on

On the momentum debate I dont think anyone can ever win it (the debate that is). Thats because momentum doesnt have a duration to it. The momentum you get from winning one game or playing a good game can last a week, a month, or a day or two. Heck it can wash away during the shower you take after the game. It seems like a silly conversation to me since you can carry momentum with you for any particular period of time. I think you are all wrong, momentum exists until it doesnt anymore!

  80. Manny,

I respectfully disagree with you about your Game 7 goaltending thoughts. And as a NYR fan since the early 70’s, I do not expect the worst for tomorrow night. In fact, I expect them to win.

  81. Manny-O-War on

I hope you’re right, Ben. I just assume that statistics from a similar time may shed some light on the current situation.

You somehow are able to find a positive and I want you to be right. I just try to temper my emotions because I put way too much into hockey, emotionall speaking.

If you win your last playoff game , you put the seed of doubt in the other teams eye. Getting momentum off that is huge for the next game but at the start of each game somebody or something always sets the tone and then a new momentum is born , get it?

  83. Rob in Beantown, 100-Watt Warlock on

I’m not suggesting any goaltender is a failure for not winning the Cup. I’m just saying that if you pay a goalie big money he should give you a chance to win the big game when you need him to. Hank has three chances to win the big game here, but he won’t if he puts up numbers like the ones you posted a few minutes.

For the record, I’m expecting him to be a man possessed tomorrow and for the Rangers to win. But it will be a huge bummer if that doesn’t happen.

  84. ‘Someday I’ll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
    High above the chimney tops
    That’s where you’ll find me.’

  85. AV should make every member of the team watch Rocky I, II, III, IV and V tonight. Then Boyle can be like “eh yo Prusty- you knocked him down why don’t you try knockin’ me down now”

  86. Jeff in South Dakota on

“A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week.” General George S. Patton, Jr.

  87. Momentum, shmoementum- Habs have done a good job gapping out the Ranger forwards -isolating the D who must either 1)carry the puck and risk being stripped with no coverage or 2) try and force a pass thru players to waiting winger. Stretch passes have a big upside if they click- downside is puck being intercepted but more usually icing (which USED to have a big downside and was once frowned upon- now, in the new NHL ,icing is like strikeouts in baseball -once abhorred now accepted as part of the dumbing down of sports)- Rangers need to adjust their game and “mo” will follow.

  88. Manny,

I pace the house like an expectant father during these games.
I talk the to the TV as if I’m the one changing lines and D pairs.
I shout out an expletive or two every so often, much to the chagrin of my family.
I know what it means to be emotionally invested in this team. Been that way for more than 40 years.
And I’ve tempered my fair share of enthusiasm over the years about the club. But I’m not doing it for tomorrow night’s game – or any other game going forward during this unexpected playoff run. They’ve come this far – time to let it all hang out, man.

  89. Manny-O-War on

I was just joking around, Rob. Thought we were on the same page. Guess we will have to reassess our friendship.

I really hope you’re right, Ben. I admire it. I’m just so scared of it all falling apart.

  90. Carp – I feel like you’re arguing that momentum is the sole governing factor around wins or losses. I’m not trying to be the devils advocate, I just dont agree. How you play, execute, luck, etc are obviously all components as well. Momentum, at least as I define it, plays a role just like so many other factors. Do I think that creating a habit of winning in the playoffs helps me win more? Yes. I do. I identify what works, I get comfortable with my vision manifesting in reality, etc. I never played elite hockey but played enough sports to trust that you dont completely erase past experience from night to night.

I get that the table resets and there are tons of variables at play – for instance, Hank playing like shizzah will likely generate another level with regard to will to win tomorrow – not momentum but maybe equally powerful.

But – would you argue that the Canadians dont, in their hearts (not their filthy sewer mouths), feel more confident with another win under their belt? Would you then argue that confidence isn’t a component of momentum?

  91. Again – I love THIS team and believe they win tomorrow – just dont buy that there wasnt a little swing after last night…

  92. Moore’s hit was _a lot_ later than Prust’s. Almost a full week. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

  93. Manny-O-War on

I guess I am with you, Rob. What I expect and what I think will happen usually don’t coincide. I have no belief in my ability to predict. I expect Hank would be possessed because of getting pulled and knowing he needs to do this NOW. But then again, he could put up those numbers and this team could have to part the Red Sea (intentional Pun) to win this thing. And that would be HORRIFYING

  94. Rob in Beantown, 100-Watt Warlock on

I’m sorry if this sounds like I’m blaming the goalie and giving everybody else a pass. The whole team was awful last night. But I think if Lundqvist is seeing the puck the way he does on an average night the Rangers still win in spite of it. He just picked a bad night to carcillo the bed.

  95. Momentum is something you feel beforehand and assign afterwards but I’ve yet to meet someone better than 50/50 at guaranteeing its continuation.

  113. Correct call on Moore imo. Weiss just got up quicker than Step but the hit was pretty much the same.

  114. Subban’s getting so much TV camera time, now he’s removing his helmet on the bench to drink it all up.

  115. Carp my Ipad usually works fine on all games, but in Montreal last night I also had problems. took my post like 5 min to load.

  116. Carp,
As an technology guy (and I’m sure I’m not the only techie that visits this blog!), I would ask the IT department to monitor this blogspace during the next “Go Time” gameday thread.

I’ll make it a point to post from my iPad tomorrow night, but any IT department worth their weight in salt should already be capturing analytics to determine average response time, along with type of browser/agent that is connecting (Safari/iPad, Android Google Chrome, PC Firefox, etc). I don’t know much about WordPress/Yoast, but from viewing the source, it looks like they have already baked in Google Analytics. I’d be surprised if they couldn’t get a breakdown of these kinds of stats, and notice when certain thresholds aren’t met (i.e., session posts taking a large amount of time to commit)

Maybe one of the other IT boneheads with more web content managment system (CMS) / web analytics experience can add to (or correct) this – just trying to help!
