Game 3: Canadiens at Rangers … It’s Go Time!

[polldaddy poll=8069544 align="left"]
Game 3.habs logo
Canadiens at Rangers.

Ya boys have an enormous opportunity tonight as they come home with a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Final. The Rangers enter on a five-game winning streak, four of those on the road. They are just 4-3 at home in these playoffs, but that included huge wins in Game 6 vs. Pittsburgh and Game 7 vs. Philadelphia.

This season alone, Minnesota, Chicago and Los Angeles came back to win after losing the first two games of a series (Los Angeles was down 0-3 to San Jose). Also, obviously, the Rangers were down 1-3 and came back to win against Pittsburgh. Last season, the Rangers came back from 0-2 against Washington, and the last time they played the Canadiens in the playoffs they fell down 0-2 and won four in row.

Before this season, 291 times a team trailed a best-of-seven 0-2, and 37 of those came back to win (12.7 percent).

Henrik Lundqvist, who broke just about every franchise regular-season record this year, and earlier in these playoffs set the club record for playoff appearances, is one away from tying Mike Richter’s franchise records for playoff wins (41) and shutouts (9).

Derick  Brassard will not play, after not taking part in warmups.  He seemed to think yesterday that he would return, but Alain Vigneault called him day-to-day after the morning skate, but in the French portion of his presser said Brassard was doubtful. Daniel Carcillo likely stays in the lineup with Dominic Moore skating between Brassard’s linemates, Benoit Pouliot and Mats Zuccarello.

The Canadiens will go with rookie Dustin Tokarski in goal. Thomas Vanek will play, but he will apparently start on the fourth line for the Habs.

Go Time from Frankfurt. Let’s go Rangers! Get that CUP! Manny is counting on you!

  3. At msg.

Looks like briere vanek re united from buff days.

    No joke I am
    In full panic mode.

Tonight game we all must say is vital. Don’t need to be genius

  4. Stranger Nation on

See Dubb – definitely feeling the vibe tonite.

Carp/coos – got my boys a pre-dinner snack at Walters – best time to go – 5pm. A double before dinner is not a bad appy.

What has changed…meh…new fridge and they hosed down the counters I believe is all.

  5. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

    Rangers 5
    Habs 0

    GWG Carcillo

Hank is very lucky tonight – pitches shutout.

  6. Admiral Akbar on

    Must-win series.

Tonight is nearly a must-win game. Do not want to give the Habs any belief that they can come back in this series. Especially with the rookie goalie in net. Gotta step on the jugular AND carotids!

  7. Hmm, I don’t have a good feeling about this one. I just saw Rangers losing 3-4 in triple overtime.

  8. iManny-O-War on

Probably have to weather a heck of a start from the Habs.

We get last change. Have to match well. Have to slow them down and capitalize on their desperation

  9. Admiral Akbar on

    Yeah guys —

I don’t feel any more relaxed nor confident tonight than Game 6 or 7 versus Pens, and no better compared to Games 1 or 2…

I think the increasing possibility of these Rangers playing in the Stanley Cup Finals is weighing heavier and heavier…

    WHY NOT US??

  10. iManny-O-War on

Vigneault starting top line against top line. I would love a checking line to slow them down.

  11. “Hmm, I don’t have a good feeling about this one.”

I’m going to assume this is no different than your typical before-game feeling.

I think the Rangers come out with a big push. if they bury a couple during the push, they win.

    RANGERS BABY!!!!!!!

Subban looks pumped , but hes going down!!!

    LETS go gg gog ggogoggo!!

    BIG GAME I LOVE IT!!!!!!

  19. They need to watch Pacioretty tonight. SOB grew up 5 miles from my house, dreaming my sons will do the same…play in the NHL. But that dream for another day…LGR!

  20. fugging refs, what a joke but it’s the canadians and these a-hole refs are born into the Canadian way.

  21. Admiral Ackbar on

Yes – rangers with territorial advantage, but very few of these quality chances are resulting in shots on goal.

  22. Olga Folkyerself on

Maybe Carcillo should take a crosscheck penalty, and some Canadiens front teeth with it? It would be worth a minute a tooth…

  23. no surprise here, lets get monrteal back in the series and let them get away with garbage. I hate the fugging nhl and the refs, complete garbage, not surprise.

  24. **Staal Wart** on

Guess the refs and the league want this game to go to Montreal
    Wow what bullship

  25. Nice throw out Carcillo cause he sees the game better than the Refs. Bad Bad officiating.

  26. yes charging, and yes misconduct for trying to get involved in the fight. Don’t defend it. It’s terribly undisciplined.

  27. These refs suck. Straight out. Now the Rangers are down 2 players….guess these were the bounces that the Habs coach was calling for.

  28. it’s montreal, it’s Canada, it’s there sport, how dare the rangers be up 2 games to none. I have declared I’ve lost all respect for the nhl, basically run by a bunch of a-hole french idiots.

  29. Olga Folkyerself on

I was right Carcillo shoulda crosschecked someone right in the kisser.

  30. SIOUX-per-SWEEP on

I’m 1 for 4 on posting, anyone else have issues posting.

….. or is it just me?

  31. iManny-O-War on

The game misconduct is a joke. Don’t care. So he charged. Big deal. That’s two. Unfocused and undisciplined and stupid. But the refs are embarrassing. Carcillo is stupid. Refs are embarrassing.

  32. Alain Amour on

It was terribly undisciplined when Prust ran a defenseless Stepan high away from the play. There was neither a penalty nor a game misconduct. Don’t defend the officials.

  33. LOL, here we go with the conspiracy theories. The NHL is doing cartwheels over the possibility of having the NY market in the finals.

  34. Just got back from a wake…. Is stepan OK? Is it a concussion? Sounds like Prust should have gotten a game misconduct?

  35. Stranger Nation on

cant stand penis head defending the ref who went over and jostled Car bong for no reason

  36. That’s going to be a suspension for Carcillo. Can’t whack the referee. Luckily Brassard will be back anyway.

  37. You got some change$$ on the Habs tonight Carp, you seem to have a tilted view this evening

  38. Stepan probably just got the wind knocked out of him and they took him in for a quick check-up. Doesn’t change the fact that Prust’s hit was terribly illegal.

  39. iManny-O-War on

That spells the end of Carcillo’s days. But the refs suck. If they don’t miss the dirty hit that doesn’t happen

  40. Admiral Ackbar on

Stepan was elbowed to the head by Judas Prust away from puck without step looking. I guess I’m sold.

  41. Johnny, my tilted view is that Prust should have gotten a penalty, and when he didn’t Carcillo took a really dumb penalty. Is that tilted?

  42. Stranger Nation on

I guess the boys in blue aren’t going to take the Habs BS

me likey – now score boys

  43. love that hit by Stephan.

NYR needs to get a little bit mean. Wasn’t it Carcillo that Subban slewfooted?

  44. when prust releases puck to pass or whatever and not looking, someone needs to shoulder him right in the chin, not hard to do, it’s prust, dude can’t skate, that’s how you get him back.

  45. Alain Amour on

    John Buccigross ?@Buccigross 3m

I know you can’t touch the linemen and refs, but linesman’s role in that Carcillo thing was a bit excessive. Carcillo wasn’t a threat.

  46. No.. The charging thing.. Boarding maybe.
Steph, had to go off to go thru testing, it’s not a great

  47. Pretty sure the refs didnt call a penalty on the hit from behind on Backes.. Then saw how bad he was hurt and threw Seabrook out. Or maybe it was a completely different series but it definitely happened these playoffs. These refs didnt give a puck.

  48. this rangers team is more skilled and hungry than any other sather special put on the ice since the dark ages

  49. SIOUX-per-SWEEP on

    OK Boys Bad start 0-0.

Win for the Rangers = we didn’t give up a goal :)

It still feels like we’ve had better scoring chances. Yes?

  50. Admiral Ackbar on

If this game/series stays this nasty, Habs should be able to handle it. They handled it from Boston pretty well…

That said, would like to see the Rangers get more rubber on net, and something in net soon.

  51. Alain Amour on

Official unnecessarily involves himself in the action, gropes and manhandles a non-threat in Carcillo. Carcillo accidentally bumps official, gets tossed and suspended.

  52. Sarcasm on the Stephan return isnt necessary Carp, he probably had to go through a battery of concussion tests….

  53. Ye he hit the ref when the ref tried to hug his arms nowhere near the actual fight.

  54. and by hit i mean the ref had a bit of Carcillo’s saliva on his chin and threw him out. cat.

  55. Ryan Whitney ?@ryanwhitney6 25m

The ref was legit staring at that hit. Tough one to miss.

  56. If Prust doesn’t try to decapitate Stepan to begin with, NONE of this happens. Screw Prust

  57. “The ref was legit staring at that hit. Tough one to miss.”

Tough one to miss, evidently easy to ignore.

  58. so yesterday
my doctor gave me a blood pressure kit
to check my stats in the AM and PM
    right now
i think i’m going to be
    off the charts

still pumped and angry……..hoping we score 1 or 2 SOON
    that will calm me down
    just a bit

  59. I used to like Prust even as Canadian… but now think his teeth are a bit crooked and could use some adjustments like Neal gave J. Fasth.

  60. Bottom line Rangers really dodged a bullet with Stepan coming back.

Also would really rather have Klein go after Prust than Dorsett. Might actually land a punch and not get dragged into the 3rd row.

  61. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  62. Alain Amour on

That was a terrible play from Boyle. He cleared the zone for the Canadiens.

  63. Stranger Nation, not sure about that… he’s got a slewfoot that helped get Carcillo ejected…

  64. Oh baby!
New York state’s army should point all their guns at the province of Quebec right now

I can see prust playing hard no matter who the opposition but how do you clearly make such a dirty dangerous hit against and old friend from Torts’ foxhole?

  65. Kid played well. We had good jump. Hammer there dreaming def. I don’t want see John Moore ever again
    Last shift of period.

  66. Stranger Nation… oops Dorsett used to be our meanest till we got Carcillo so I got confused.

  67. Well, that physical play by Prust didn’t do anything to jump start his team. In fact, the Rangers became more physical. But most importantly, Therein still hasn’t found an answer to Rangers’ speed. His defense is a step behind

  68. ThisYearsModel on

There will not be a suspension. The NHL will find a way to avoid giving one to him.

  69. Carp
are you, Brooks, Gross, Pat and Josh26 having a good time ripping on the pro-canada media in attendance right now after prust was allowed to get away with headhunting?

interesting how dreger, lebrun and others are pretty silent right now

  70. Good evening all!

I’m here is spirit if not in ailing head and body….

I would love a suspension in Prust’s future. He is dead to me.

Hope our boys keep it together. Ok, that’s all I can manage…LGR!!!!!

  71. SIOUX-per-SWEEP on

    Purposely on Purpose – Amen!!!

    Rangers win the 1’st Period.

  72. Im accidentally on purpose going to kick prusts ass if i ever cross paths with that punk

  73. I’m looking at replay of Hags goal… looks like he hesitated to make sure his stick wasn’t high.

  74. Me too, Boiler.

I liked that period. Didn’t get sucked in and lose focus. Hags is flying, Stepan realized hitting is legal. What a difference a healthy Staal makes. I think he gets one soon.

  75. ThisYearsModel on

Except for Carcillo, of course. If he got a game for abuse of official, he will get suspended for sure. He does have a history.

  76. Rangers played a very solid period especially in their own zone. Keep it up boys!!

  77. i KNOW that Carp
just how how the canadian media had such a
    cooke-storm about THE
    now at least on twitter
they’re all quiet in regards to the
    hit by prust.

  78. Pat Leonard ? @PLeonardNYDN

If I’m reading Rule 40.3 correctly, Carcillo gets at least 10-game suspension: Deliberately applies physical force without intent to injure

  79. iManny-O-War on

Yea. Watched it again. Prust isn’t getting suspended.

Carcillo is an idiot. The refs are flat out embarrassing.

Good on the rangers to focus after the hooplah.

    Hagelin is earning BUCKS

  80. btw Carp
i don’t know if you saw my tweet
if the league isn’t going to do it (and they won’t)
    prust on the twitter feed

apologies to whoever is still clinging to him
he’s moved on and there’s a BIG difference
between playing hard and playing dirty

  81. Alain Amour on

Total team effort in the first period. Need a total team effort for the final two periods. From Hank to Boyle. No excuses. Just win.

  82. ok, now that I’ve calm down. We all know the nhl refs are a joke but when you think they can’t get any worse, amazingly they get worse. I love Dorsett and his heart but Dorsett is small and can’t fight. Prust after the fight was acting like because he beat up Dorsett yelling to his team mates lets go did nothing to fire up his team. If anything, the rangers looked more fired up after the fight. Thank you crusty prust from firing up the rangers, now go get your fugging shine box you piece of Carcillo.

  83. I can’t wait until next year when the bruins face the Habs for the first time. I will enjoy watching Lucic beat the crap out of old crusty prusty.

  84. Alain Amour on

How many Rangers fans thought Prust was irreplaceable?

It certainly seems as if he has been easily replaced.

  85. “If I’m reading Rule 40.3 correctly, Carcillo gets at least 10-game suspension: Deliberately applies physical force without intent to injure”

Says it all about this backward league, doesn’t it?

  86. Stranger Nation on

Rangers were fired up anyway – stupid play for Dorsett getting into fight.

stay focused!!! win the game boys

    where is broom hilda??

  87. Stranger Nation on

The linesman seemed to rush over to Carcillo while he was just standing there and started pushing him.
    2 minutes for instigating?

  88. My brother is a longtime ref for HS & College, he sticks-up for them usually. Hasn’t this Playoff season…

  89. If Stepan was hurt, maybe, but still unlikely suspension. His miracle recovery kind of gets Prust off the hook.

  90. SIOUX-per-SWEEP on

*BOY’s* look at the bright side

AV gets to double shift MSL & Nasher in Car Bomb’s spot.

  91. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Crazy period folks!!! Our guys handled it great!! I for one handled it bad . I was a little freaked out and typing on the blog is sometimes a bad thing /time. Im composed nicely right now and I am looking forward to an Awsome second period !!!

Prust needs to be beat on with a stick . He had a good period , Fight and a Dirty hit ( no penalty ). Nice try , but we scored!!!!!!

  92. Kerry Fraser ?@kfraserthecall 23s
I disagree with NBC analysts that Prust interference was not a major. Late, blindside & high degree of contact violence. See rule 56.4.

  93. Carcillo gets 10, Prust nothing. Seems right. Carcillo wasn’t doing anything… till ref grabs him 10 feet from fight?

  94. The bastard *literally* skated up to Carcillo who wasnt part of the picture and hugged his arms. Pathetic

  95. Weaver only effective at knocking Brassard out for two games. Otherwise. Slow.

  96. iManny-O-War on

Horrendous call in our favor by the linesman. Maybe Carcillo gave him a concussion

  97. of course a obvious hook, no call, habs score, rangers 1, Canadians 1 with help from the refs.

  98. Refs not gonna call any more penalties this game. That’s going to be the excuse for the no call on Prust hit.

  99. these fugging refs better not ref another playoff game, these guys are the worse refs I’ve ever seen. How do they not see all the extra Canadian players. These jack wagons must have money on the habs.

  100. so is this going to be the game where we turn 3rd stringer into a le hab hero???

    C’MON ALREADY!!!!!

  101. Stranger Nation on

Henk wants that goal back – been playing great – but he wants that back

  102. Sooo … unspoken “at no time will Montreal have less players on the ice than NY”?

  103. nope
    if score is still tied
    into the 3rd period
    you know some phantom hold
    will called against the Rangers

  104. Olga Folkyerself on

Looked like 8 Habs on the ice there. Wow.

    Yes, counting the refs…

  105. I am getting worried, this is like a reverse of game two, we are dominating everywhere, but on the scoreboard…

  106. hank has 6 shots against, 1 goal. yea hes not been the man tonight, but with all our shots and chances, we shouldve buried this team pp’s or not. at least should be up 2-1

  107. its likely gonna be a 2-1 series heads. sorry, but we dont have the refs on our side and shouldve buried a few more chances. if we cant overcome this at home, i pray for this team next round, if we make it

  108. did the ghost of Bob Marley
and a number of other Rangers between periods?

  109. Alain Amour on

Softy allowed by Hank. First softy in a long time. He just made 2 terrific saves.

  110. SWPLetsGONYR on

Apparently the “Too many men” on the ice call doesn’t apply to Hobbits.

  111. Admiral Ackbar on

Rangers need to stay the course, get pucks on net.

Still not impressed by Tokarki – not enough quality chances. I’d give more credit to Canadiens play in front of him.

Still a very winnable game for NY.

  112. Having very strong second thoughts on the Carcillo hit on Prust. Borderline penalty at best. And though linesman Driscoll was too aggressive with Carcillo during the ensuing fight, Carcillo was too aggressive with the linesman. Think that was undisciplined on Carcillo’s part, especially with Stepan out of the game at that point.

  113. It might have been a no call in regular course of play, but a guy like Carcillo targeting a guy who just pulled the garbage Prust did, the whistle is blowing before contact.

  114. iManny-O-War on

The amount of holding and interfering the Habs are allowed is absurd. Am I the only one seeing it?

  115. I normally don’t complain about penalties, but I have a feeling this one will hurt.

  116. You just can’t celebrate a right call on the ice when they have missed SOOO many!

  117. Obviously I hate Subban right now. That goes without saying.

But I am impressed with his passing

  118. Carp
agree about original penalty on Carcillo
    he barely touched him

linesman — no need for him to go over to Carcillo
dumb of Carcillo to do the get off of me bit
if that was someone else he would have gotten away with it

  119. Worst officiated game in a long, long time, and there have been some real bad ones

  120. Awesome play by McD to ride the Hab into the boards behind the net into the boards preventing the pass in front to an open man.

  121. Not sure how there isn’t a PP for NYR but 5 games ago we would have been relieved!

  122. Admiral Ackbar on

This is an excellent road game by Le Habitants.

Slower pace, and now evenly played.

  123. This is a very important PP for NYR… score here and make Montreal look VERY bad..

  124. McD should have split Gallagher’s head open with his stick and then everyone could laugh and be like “ha ha that’s like what the comedian with the same name does to watermelons and stuff”.

  125. what? a penalty on Montreal?

no way. clearly they were paid off during that last break

  126. Richards is going to give me a heart attack playing the point on the power play.

  127. Norm Merton on

How crappy is this ice? Rangers focusing like crazy men trying to keep the puck on their sticks.

  128. damn tokarski is pretty good. we should be happy prust didnt score a shorty at this point

  129. LOL! Remember when Laviolette was screaming in 24/7 about “Montreal typical” officiating….

  130. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Best Ranger team since ’94 ?

  131. Norm Merton on

You know the door to the ledge is open when the Richards scapegoating begins…

  132. ThisYearsModel on

CARP–the hit by Carcillo was a love tap. No way it was boarding….he even let up on the hit a bit. There was no reason for the linesman to grab him. However, he was stupid to get himself thrown out.

  133. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Richards is fine you knuckleheads… He scored the game winner a few days ago…

  134. You know Norm is here when someone is defending Richards but not addressing the play Richards is being criticized for …

  135. would have to see replay a 3rd time because i don’t even think prust went into the boards. at worst it was a crosscheck

  136. “Lots if stick checks on day har nay.”

This made me think of Tunak Tunak Tun by Daler Mehndi.

  137. I hope lots of Montreal fans are whining about the no call there. I think that would be *rich*.

  138. Look at Gallagher arguing after the horn… where’s the misconduct on him? Carcillo would get 10 games for that

  139. The officials are just soooooo poor. Really sickening and a huge blemish on these playoffs.

  140. Stranger Nation on

Nash has three moves on the break and I have seen all of them 400 times. coming from left side is his least effective

  141. Alain Amour on

Very poor team effort in the second period. A total team effort is needed in the third period. From Hank to Boyle. No excuses. Just win.

  142. “can we stop shooting into the goalie’s pads please?”

Yup. Credit Tokarski for being in front of the net and not much else.

  143. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Pierre – “that was a slash by McDunner. Doesn’t change the fact that I want to kiss Kristopher LeTang on the mouth”

  144. Feel like Rangers have been the much better team but need to finish. That said, them letting the Habs hang around until they pick up a garbage goal is classic Ranger behavior.

  145. _Yup. Credit Tokarski for being in front of the net and not much else._

[Tokarski loses control of compliment, looks frantically behind his back]

  146. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

This from JR – can’t make this up.

JR – “They (the Habs) are Coming at Hank with everything they could possibly do”

  147. Two superkey players – Hank and McD are just a notch down on their best…
Rangers are back to regular – stretches of domination, tons of unrealized opportunities, outshot, outplay to point of opposition start losing hope, than semi-soft goal against and totally different game with uncertain outcome.

  148. ThisYearsModel on

Have seen many games like this over the years. Our inability to finish is a problem. Montreal is surely delighted to be tied going to the 3rd at MSG.

  149. Two periods down. The game is still up for grabs. Rangers can wrest control of the game – and the series – with a strong third period.

  150. Definitely has that feel of a game where they let an inferior opponent (at least on this night) hang around until they get one while the Rangers fail to finish on a myriad of opportunities. Rarely ends well

  151. Usually when you blow your chances you lose. But not always. I’m going out on a limb here and saying it could go either way. Book it.

  152. Liam is such a tool. He tried to do a De Niro line and he messed it up royally…

  153. Rangers are going to win, and they’re not going to win by 1. Book it in your book.

  154. eddie- u shouldve seen JR the other night, i cant remember exactly what he said but it was like, “when the kings got kopitar at the deadline, hes been nothin but money” or something like that. he kept mixin up players names and pretty much everything else! lmao it was too comical

  155. _Liam is such a tool. He tried to do a De Niro line and he messed it up royally_

Robert De Niro is here? Well maybe he can say hello to my little friend!?

  156. Manny-O-War, King of Metal on

I’m so scared. But we just need a great 20 minutes and we take a stranglehold on this series. COME ON

  157. Manny-O-War, King of Metal on

Haven’t seen Carcillo at all since the about 8 minutes through the first. Guy needs to wake up and have an impact!

  158. [I have a feeling] The post-match interviews are not going to be much fun for NYR fans.

  159. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

  166. Canadiens gifting the Rangers chances, Rangers not cashing in. Dreading where this goes…

  167. Matty"WhyNot!!"Boy on

Subban looks like Nash out there. Endless rush, carrying the team on his back. Finished by a silly perimeter shot from 40.

  168. i forgot to play my pre-period Bruce
    song before 2nd period
    i’m sorry everyone
i’m not playing it constantly to make up for it

  169. what happened to these guys?
can’t use tired as an excuse
    too many hot dogs?

not so much that opponent has turned it up
    because they have to
    watching all the missed opportunities
like deja vu all over again

  170. Matty"WhyNot!!"Boy on

If this is desperation from Montreal, then they are one heck of a lousy or limited team.

  171. iDoodie Machetto on

In all seriousness, this is one of then most poorly officiated games I’ve ever seen.

  172. Anybody else having signal problems? My game is very choppy. Thanks, Dolanvision.

  173. my Insignia hd tv completely hates me
    and kept breaking up.
i offered to pay for a new one if i was allowed to smash it
    was told

    still considering it

  174. They are clearly listening to all the pundits advice, and are shooting high on Hank.

  175. “Who do you think might score a goal?”

“Well, I think the best goal scorers have a good chance of scoring a goal.”

  176. Rob in Beantown on

I have to wake up at 4 am for an early flight tomorrow morning, so this game will be the one to go to 3 OTs

  177. Guy in a suit banging on the glass behind Hagelin having no idea what was happening while texting.

  178. Poo: “Why don’t I wait JUST until the Hab slides right in front of me to take the shot!”

  179. Manny-O-War, King of Metal on

Really letting them dictate here. Need to step it up and cycle and create turnovers.

  180. Matty"WhyNot!!"Boy on

When the boys see Hank make the big late save they should wake up out of their stupor and start playing. They are sleep walking.

  181. That was the Canadiens stealing the game. Except for Lundqvist. Montreal doing a masterful job at delaying, defending and countering here.

  182. We can’t lose this game and let this kid and the habs think that they have found some magic!! BURY THEM DAMN IT!!!!

  183. So is Henrik going to score or is he going to rack up yet another low scoring playoff *loss*?

  184. i seriously thought we’d
    have a better 3rd period

  185. ThisYearsModel on

This is following the Montraal game plan. They have the puck a lot more than us this period.

  186. That should be the game. Not the end of the world — Canadiens have used up a lot tonight. Game stolen, series on.

  187. NYR missed way too many chances all night, Zucc and MSL in particular. Another wild bounce for MTL.

  188. who the hartnell didn’t see that coming??!?!

jpg wants to smash (some more)!!

  189. _well this blog should be fun the next 2 days_

We blew our must win game 3 while up 2-0. Series over. Congrats Montreal.

  190. I hope these fugging refs don’t ref another playoff game. I’m not blaming the loss on them but I can’t watch a game when there are incompetent refs refereeing the game.

  191. we are going to lose to a crappier team. why did we miss the net so much? hmmmm. its called unconditional love for the oppoopent!

  192. Give the Canadiens credit. Great defensive game, and now they have established a goalie.

  193. SIOUX-per-SWEEP on

Tommy – the Rangers never had the momentum in THIS game.

    Sad on so many levels.

  194. Nash has had a great game — close but no cigar. If he can sustain it, Canadiens D will be very unhappy.

  195. am i allowed to bring some
I Hate My Life Because I Cheer for a Team
    That Effs With Me Food
    on to
    The Ledge??

  196. Actually feel bad for the rookie there. So close to robbing one on the road. OK, not that bad.

  197. Even if they hadn’t scored, the Rangers would have felt good about how they finished tonight. They have been the better team for the great majority of minutes in this series.

  198. Admiral Ackbar on

And somewhere, Miami Pimp lets out a smile.

  199. Your boy Mister D yelled pretty loud there for being the only one awake in his house.

  200. Marc Methot ?@MarcMethot3 1m

Wow I won’t lie. Im not even playing and my heart is racing. What a game!

  201. game not over yet, still have a chance. I would think that the Canadians have given everything they have in this game and thought they won. Rangers need to come out in OT and dominate and score and win this game.

  202. Me too, Gravy.

Where are you flying, Rob? Is it Jetblue? If not, you blue (pun) it.

  203. Huge!! THE Kreider!! Now I can explain to my wife why you pull the goalie… She’s finally getting it

  204. Manny-O-War, King of Metal on

Well. This is nuts. Put their backs against the wall and they actually perform. Win face-offs, possess the puck, etc.

  205. Anyone with a DVR want to go back and confirm my eyes telling me that Pouliot was running around like a total idiot doofus on that last shift? Made late board Pouliot look under control.

  206. Matty"WhyNot!!"Boy on

Hank has the ‘I’m not letting anything by me’ look on his face!!

  207. What’s the Vegas line on OT single, double or triple.

    Sorry Rob, sleep is overrated

  208. Derick Brassard is going to put crazy eye contact lenses in, don the #15 and score the winner.

  209. so Manny
    thanks for following
i wonder how many twitter followers
    i’m losing due to
    my NYR

  210. Matty"WhyNot!!"Boy on

    Orr, Vibin’!!

When was the last time the Rangers actually scored, goalie pulled, 6 on 5????

  211. if the rangers somehow pull this game out there is no way the Habs are coming back in this series. That would be a dagger win because I’m sure the Habs thought they had this game won.

  212. Admiral Ackbar on

MATTY, I remember Gretzky doing it, but I think that was during the regular season.

  213. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

PK Subban – “nobody be callin no penalty on me, know what I’m sayin?”

  214. If the Rangers can get some of these chances on net and force Tokarski to make more than one save, they can make this happen. The Rangers have had the better of the play and scoring chances, they need to force this goaltender’s hand. MTL with a short bench, keep the speed up and skate around em.

  215. Roenick and the other clown on nbcsn are smoking some good stuff if they think the Habs deserve to win this game. Rangers have had so many opportunities to score. I don’t know what game there watching.

  216. This reminds of the game vs. Washington with the Richards late winner and then Staal winning it early in OT.

Tokarski has surprisingly matched Price these last 2 periods, but with the way the Rangers are skating, I expect the win here with Pouliot getting the game winner.

  217. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan THE logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

    I WANT A WIN!!!!

LETS gogog gog og gog oggo!!!!!!

  218. Matty"WhyNot!!"Boy on

This team is killing all kinds of ghosts!! Winning in Montreal!! No win-lose-win-lose anymore!! Now a 6 on 5 goal with goalie pulled!!!!

  219. back on the Ledge
    I hate my life food

  220. Garbage goal.

Oh well. Move on, get the next one. Can’t expect a sweep. Rangers must regroup and win the next.

  221. Stupid. Hank just cost the Rangers the game. 5 games, he played out of his mind for. Weak game.

  222. Spectator Staal. Not only won’t take the body, but doesn’t even bother to poke check.

  223. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan THE logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

    We just can’t take advantage up 2 – 0 , Tough loss .

Rangers need Brassard . Refs blew it. Carcillo being out didn’t help!!

Next game we take it to ’em!!!

  224. Matty"WhyNot!!"Boy on

gotta give montreal credit. they played somewhat well in the second and part of the 3rd.

  225. As I said, our 2 best wasn’t at their best. Others heroics doesn’t count than…
Pathetic way to finish game which should be won. Change all…

  226. The narrative shouldn’t be weather Hank can play in Montreal. He let 3 soft goals in tonight. he looked completely different.

  227. Very unfortunately loss, but I’ve seen enough tonight to know that the Rangers are winning this series.

The Rangers are the far better team and Montreal lucked into a win tonight.

  228. Admiral Ackbar on

Montreal played well enough to give them a chance to win.

But I do not think they outplayed the Rangers at all. And Tokarki was good, but I’m not willing to anoint him the next Patrick Roy. No way.

  229. Again, much like PIT series, NYR lost this game. MTL didn’t have to do much at all tonight.

  230. Tokarski played excellently tonight. Any excuses to take credit away from the kid are pathetic.

  231. rangers need Brassard back and I hope Carcillo doesn’t get suspended. If anybody should get suspended it’s these 2 moron refs and lineman who were in this game. Those idiots should not ref another playoff game.

  232. The extra day rest helps us more than them I think now…… panic at all. Rangers in 5

  233. ThisYearsModel on

It does show that Dorsett is important and Dom Moore is not a long-term answer for the 2nd line.

  234. Hank really blew that game for us oh well time to go look for people’s real names on the internet because I’m a pretty creepy guy!

  235. Rangers dmen were allowing habs to get behind ’em all game.

one of the frustrating things tonight

    could understand 1st period
thought they’d get their cooke together
    in periods 2 and/or 3

  236. I dont see as much bias in the in-game commentary from Doc, Pierre and the rest as some people do but how is acceptable that Pierre LeBrun, Darren Dreger, and Elliote Friedman are openly rooting for Montreal? I get Dave Stubbs, he at least works for a Montreal paper.

  237. Montreal deserved the win, sad to say. Rangers relaxed after the first period. Hank wasn’t sharp. And he, unfortunately, got outplayed by the other team’s goaltender.

Oh well. Gotta get it back on Sunday. Going back to Montreal tied 2-2 is NOT a good idea.

Jeez, Staal really was admiring the scenery on the game winner

  238. Well so begins my media blackout until Sunday night. Can’t stand hearing how “the Habs are back in this”.

Not this blog obviously but everything else.

    LGR !!!

  239. Matty"WhyNot!!"Boy on

Some nice highlight real. Rangers shooting into his pads, and a good save on MSL and Hags.

This kid will implode. Mark my words!!

  240. “And that’s what you have to do, just throw the puck on net because good things can happen. But you know what’s stupid? Advanced stats like Corsi!”

  241. Admiral Ackbar on

Alain Amour — no one here said Tokarki wasn’t excellent.

That said, I don’t see how he even “stole” the game. Rangers were good, Canadiens played a good road game and were able to cash in on their chances.

Let’s not confuse “ToKarski” with “Hasek”, ok?

  242. if anyone is still around
    i just want to say
    NO ONE is referring to
    the other goalie

  243. I don’t know how anyone can say Montreal deserved the win. They were outplayed from the opening faceoff again, but Tokarski stood on his head, just like Hank in Game 2.

Tokarski stole Game 3 from the Rangers, nothing more, nothing less. Rangers did nothing wrong tonight.

  244. iManny-O-War on

Rangers completely got away from their game. Not about who still what. They kept dropping back and let the road team dictate pace. The rangers did more than enough to win. But they didn’t.

    Have to control your house!

  245. Hank allowed a short side goal to Markov. Hank redirected a weak puck that should have been an easy save right into oncoming traffic.

The Rangers outplayed the Canadiens for most of the night, but were done in by two weak goals.

  246. Need Brassard back and Moore back on 4th line. Maybe we should go back on the road? Seems like more intensity when away from MSG.

  247. I agree, Alain. “Hank” was awful tonight and basically ruined all of the games he played before this game. Talbot should start tomorrow because I think he’s better than Tokarski who is better than Henrik. After seeing this, I can’t imagine going to a clincher involving the Rangers this year. Ok. I’m going to go look at family pictures of this dude who posts on this blog. I don’t think that’s creepy and I imagine other people don’t either. I’ll talk to you later.

  248. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan THE logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Heart breaker , did someone mention Pat Benatar earlier?

Orr , Pat Benatar is the woman the kids were dressing like in Fast times at Ridgemont high.

  249. I do not want to be right. I want Hank to play for the remainder of these playoffs as he played in the five games previous to tonight.

  250. Rangers had chances to make this a blow out, youngster came up big for them….flush…regroup….get brass back… game 4. I see no reason to get to the ledge. They played their best game so far in series and some of our top dogs not so much…..enjoy and hot dog and beer this weekend and relax. This is the team we have grown to love, it’s never gonna be that easy…

Does nhl have the balls to schedule meeting with prust?

  251. Rangers carried most of play Montreals defense looks done…they just got more bounces tonight

  252. Einstein (La Greca?) on radio introduced Carter as “the Great Anson Carter.”

  253. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Keep the faith….Rangers are the better team. Cannot see the Habs winning this series….

  254. Yeah, puck went off of Stahl’s skate. Next game he scores a huge goal.

This game was ridiculous though. So many scoring chances that were shot wide. Everything should be on net, creating second chance opportunities.

  255. Won 5 of the next 6 after that game 4 showing against the Pens…..time to start a new streak.

  256. I thought the rangers played a great game but didnt finish. Are people really freaking out about this game? Sure, we would be in a much better position had we won, but lets see what happens Sunday night.

  257. Correction: I sit to pee and while I’m sitting to pee, I’m googling the real names of people on this website. I don’t think that’s pervy at all and I can’t imagine anyone else does. I know Alain doesn’t because I’ve asked him.

  258. NYR had more than enough chances to win this game, but I still can’t shake the putrid officiating. NYR really should have been on a major in first period which would have become a two minute five-on-three after Subban’s slew foot, although I thought Dorsett embellished it also.

  259. Richie waxing eloquent on radio. “That’s hockey.” This guy is the peripatetic Secretary of Useless Information.

  260. _Richie waxing eloquent on radio. “That’s hockey.” This guy is the peripatetic Secretary of Useless Information._

“Its the kind of game where you just shrug it off and go enjoy a Pauillac wine. It’s from Bordeaux, my favorite region for drinking wines. Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau Latour are from that region — two of the greatest first growths ever — plus many others.”

  261. Did Dorsett embellish his fight, too? He can be rag dolled. Subban gave him the double slew foot, plain and simple.

  262. Dorsett getting rocked by Prust was a bit tough to watch since I kinda considered Dorsett the Prust replacement.

  263. Unfortunately Henik was not at his best, let in two bad ones. Rangers let this slip away. They had far too many quality chances they could’nt capitalize on.

  264. coos, a slew foot no doubt (ft. G. Stefani) but Dorsett’s untouched leg flew high into the air. Kinda odd.

  265. BickelsPickle on

I thought we played well. Tying goal took a lot of effort and heart. Maybe going to OT and losing is a tougher loss to shake off. Oh well. It’s hockey, as Sir Richie Richie says. Good hockey. See youse Sunday for a Funday. #THEKREIDER IS FREE

  266. I don’t have a problem with the Prust hit to the chest except that it was late which makes it borderline vicious dirty. If he was on the Rangers and did that, I still would have killed him for being stupid, not for playing hard.

  267. It was intent to injure and that’s just such a “poop”y play to make, especially against a former teammate. You can be tough and punish guys without taking three blindside strides after the puck is gone.

  268. All my talk about enjoying this ride is now behind me. From here on out its terror, sheer terror.

  269. Also, chest, head, in between, whatever … if Prust isn’t getting supplemental, the officiating crew should be. That’s simply not a play you can miss.

  270. I think it was late and unexpected…I would have been pissed off too. Not excusing Prust at all for his stupidity. He has to know better than that….

  271. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Subban swings his stick like he is a baseball player. Problem is it’s not a ball he’s hitting….it’s the rangers’ bodies….

  272. _Was it a headshot? You guys think Prust was intentionally targeting the head?_

It doesn’t matter if he targeted the head or just accepted the risk of getting Stepan’s head, it was a bullsh*t hit. Prust after a six pack would admit as much.

  273. I really dislike terms like “intent to injure” and “predatory.” But the Prust hit was brutal any way you look at it.

  274. Half agree, Latona. I can believe guys don’t want to injure, but the hit is predatory any way you look at it. Plowing a player not looking because he shouldn’t be looking because the puck is 2 strides gone is predatory regardless of intent or pureness of heart.

  275. (And I say that taking zero issue with Prust trying to get after Kreider in Game 1. Totally understood why he did that and his role and everything. Tonight was a totally different story.)

  276. There have been some really, really crazy OT goals scored against Hank in his career. Poor guy.

  277. I agree with everything you said, Mister D, I just don’t like the word “predatory” because to me every hit is “predatory” I think they should use a different word.

  278. Exact same hit as Neil on Boyle in 12. Same spot on the ice. No penalty. No suspension.

I think it should be both, as should Neil’s have been.

  279. Remember two years ago Prust elbowed Volchenkov in the back of the head. Got suspended for it.

So if Michelle Therrien wants to talk aboot THE having a history of goalie hits, then you can say Prust has a history of head shots.

  280. As a Ranger fan, playoff overtimes are more terrifying than they should be.

Lundqvist rarely gets through the first 5 minutes. It’s ALWAYS a weak goal right away.

  281. It’s weird. Seeing it as it happened live, it looked so dirty. Watching the replay in super slow mo, it looks like head wasn’t the target. Doesn’t really matter. It sucks. It’s a blown call however you look at it. NYR were robbed of at least 1 PP (that should have been 5 min major).

I don’t see a suspension coming. NHL will jump through hoops etc…

  282. Pouliot got away with a suspendible hit last game. Looks like the NHL is going to let ’em at each other at this point.

  283. _I agree with everything you said, Mister D, I just don’t like the word “predatory” because to me every hit is “predatory” I think they should use a different word._

Eh. Hitting a guy off the puck or clearing him out of a play has a hockey purpose. The entire purpose of this hit was to inflict … something.

  284. iManny-O-War on

C-Dubs is right. If you aren’t terrified you aren’t paying attention.

God forbid we head back to Montreal tied.

This is the lead we blew in 2011-2012

  285. _I don’t see a suspension coming. NHL will jump through hoops etc_

“So they were at a party, got into a fight over a girl, he pulled a gun, and shot but says he didn’t actually want to hurt anyone? And it went through the other guy’s shoulder? Wow. But the other guy is already out of the hospital and expected to fully recover. We should consider that. Maybe more than anything else. I don’t know … maybe we just fine him $150 and figure he’ll learn his lesson? Sound good?”

  286. If Dorsett hadn’t been out hurt, Carcillo would never have been here. Rangers management never learn that chippy, intimidating hockey works, is part of the playoffs, and is almost always let go by the zebras.

  287. “When NYR lose in the playoffs, I turn into Brodeur”

Just don’t leave your wife for her sister!!!!
