OK, I’m scrapping my preseason pick of Los Angeles over Ottawa in the Stanley Cup finals. For fairly obvious reasons. Special thanks to coach Teddy Roosevelt, cheap-shot artist Chris Neil and the completely underachieving Senators.
So, starting over, below are my picks for the first round of the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs (thankfully no longer called conference quarterfinals).
As we do annually (or most years, I can’t remember), let’s have a first-round predictions contest. Submit your predictions in the format below. I can’t promise prizes, but I will try to round up something to hand out.
In case of ties, the accuracy of the Rangers-Flyers series will determine the winner.
I further tiebreakers are needed, the first will be the total goals scored in the Rangers-Flyers deciding game (closest without going over first). Then the final tiebreaker will be the total goals in Rangers-Flyers.
So your entry should look something like this:
Rangers over Flyers in 6.
Penguins over Blue Jackets in 7.
Bruins over Red Wings in 6.
Lightning over Canadiens in 7.
Avalanche over Wild in 6.
Blackhawks over Blues in 6.
Ducks over Stars in 5.
Kings over Sharks in 7.
1st tiebreaker: 8.
2nd tiebreaker: 35.
Only entries in this thread will count. Once the next thread goes up, the contest will be closed. That should happen this evening or overnight.
Also, please do not even attempt to enter more than once. I will check the IP address of any entry I do not recognize.
