Lundqvist established two franchise records in a five-day span, becoming the Rangers’ all-time wins leader with his 302nd career victory on Mar. 18 at Ottawa, and the team’s all-time shutouts leader with his 50th career shutout on Mar. 22 at New Jersey. He registered his 300th career win with a 30-save shutout in the Rangers 3-0 victory over Detroit on Mar. 9 at Madison Square Garden. 1. Good morning, King Kong Korab! Is he getting his ankles broken by one of our lost boys Rick Middleton? What a career he should have had with the Rangers. LGR!

  2. Ugh….bronze…nice work SeeeDubbb…while trying to think of something witty..the game was afoot and I was caught flat footed!

  3. Columbus leapfrogs Detroit..I think Pitt will regret taking a point from the Wings last night…

  4. Buff game looking mighty important now…need both points…and if Philly loses…Talbot gets Montreal…

  5. Detroit are in, Phoenix or Dallas will be the last team to make it – all 3 have losing records. Welcome to the world of the Bettman Bonus points!!

  6. Jimbo
Right on… I looked at that picture and saw the same thing. Middleton for Hodge equal or worse than No Gomez for McMonster in reverse

  7. Morning, See…was at a watershed coalition meeting last night and had to leave my friends early at 10:30 PM. Yikes! Lucky it wasn’t a game night. I think they must have been talking about watershed issues until midnight!

  8. Admiral Akbar on

    Great moves by Sather:

McDonuts for Gomer (all time greatest)
    Brassard, Doorstop, JMoops for Gabby
    AV for Torts
    Calm Talbot
    Klein for DelZaster

…sorry boys and girls, Uncle Glennie ain’t perfect, but he certainly ain’t the worst GM by any stretch.

  9. Good morning, boneheads!

It’s an important game after all. Who knew. Columbus will be a tough out doesn’t matter who they play. Ditto Detroit. And so much for Metro division being the weakest, eh.

  10. Matty"BubbleWrapRitchieRocket!!!!!!"Boy on

Admiral, Prust saying that the two trades that use a player ‘for’ another player (McD and Klein) were to erase huge mistakes HE made. And to set the record straight, there have been many more bad, than good, moves.

  11. MacD is gonna be Doug E. FRESH for the playoffs! He’ll be eighteen wheeling guys all month!!!

  12. Must win lock up 2-3 matchup and avoid Pittsburgh.

Ranger win flyers reg loss locks 2 seed.

  13. Matty"BubbleWrapRitchieRocket!!!!!!"Boy on

All I can say is Detroit is ‘sneaky good’. Detroit, on the right night, can beat anyone. Yep, Nick is not here. They are only ‘retooling’ this year. They are to fear as a spoiler, if you’re a top seed.

Columbus is laying the foundation. They are St Louis 2-4 years ago. Good management. Watch out then.

Rangers? It’s always fun rooting for your team in the PO’s. Sather has done a good job getting us there 8 of 9 last years.

  14. Sather to me is better at finding the diamond in the rough, McD, Pouliot, Zucc, etc. than he is at getting the right big named guys. His attempts to land a big name free agent or make a trade for a big name player has been mostly bad (the only exceptions I think of was Gabby and Jagr who were both very productive). And remember for every Del Zotto and Jessiman, there was Cally, and Dubi and Hank. His first rounders haven’t been good but he’s gotten good production out of his middle rounders. Like with any GM, it’s a mixed bag. We’ve been in the playoffs 8 of the last 9 and have won the East once. Lots of teams in the NHL would die for that.

  15. Matty"BubbleWrapRitchieRocket!!!!!!"Boy on

Clearly, different organizations apply different meaning to the words ‘re-build’ and ‘re-tool’.

I would like to ‘re-tool’ like Detroit is. Let’s grab a Tatar. A Nyquist. Just ‘small acquisitions’. Nothing big.

Compare that to oh.…McIlrath, Miller, Thomas, Sanguinetti, Werek.

    Game, set, match.

  16. Detroit is always dangerous, but I think the top two seeds would rather play Columbus than them. It wouldn’t shock me to see Detroit upset Pittsburgh (or even Boston if it works out that way).

  17. First the Blues then the Blue Jackets
What more does Dolan need to know?
    BRING JD HOME!!!!!

  18. As far as facing a goalie that can shut you down I would rather face Howard than Bobrovsky.

  19. Sioux-per-man on

    Top of the Morning Boys!

    Frozen Four starts today!

I would like to use my “1 TIME” tonight Sioux vs Gophers. They’ve played each other the last 67 years. But tonight they skate for 8!

    Have SIOUXper day!!!

  20. I am running out of Sioux-perlatives to describe the force that is MacD. Again, anyone that still tries to beat him to the outside should be fined and suspended by his team

  21. Sioux-per-man on

Must win vs the 30th team in the league. If they don’t win tonight they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. Rangers game tonight should be another game to sharpen the saw right before the playoffs. Hank with a shutout. MSL setting up Nash for his hat trick, Fast and the Furious II, while Zucc scores his 20th goal of the year!

  22. There are 5 players in the league that have as many or more fighting majors than the Sabres have wins.

  23. Rob in Beantown on

Who are more intimidating? The New York Rangers or the rangers on The Wall in Westeros?

  24. Give AV credit for getting the best out of MZA, Brassard, and especially Pouliot. It appears that maybe, just maybe, Pouliot has found his place in this league. The guy went at #5 after Crosby, Ryan etc. Lets hope he doesn’t ask for something ridiculous so he can be resigned.

  25. Ilb – no kidding the one place he has success, on the biggest stage, playing at MSG. What should Sather offer him?

  26. Rangers need to put this game away in the 1’st period. So we can get on to the REAL game tonight!

Carp – don’t forget to set your DVR before you leave Blog HQ :) ESPN2.

  27. St. Louis needs to repeat his last game, and get the #1 LINE off to a quick score. He’s the playmaker that has to get Nash going. Then Zucc’s line can hit the ice and clean up against the 2nd pair on defense, just to have the 3rd line out skate, out hustle, out work the Baby Buffalo’s.

I will have Baby Buffalo’s on a stick for appetizers, come one come all. Garage is set up for 30 for the Sioux Game.

  28. Tonight is actually a must-win.

Which means that the Rangers will bush-league-it-up and somehow lose. And then end up having to play Pitt or Bruins.

And subsequently tire-fire-out in 4 straight, thereby leaving no chance for THE Kreider to come back.

    It’s written in the stars.

    Have a nice day, everyone!

  29. On a side note, it’s nice to see the Rangers JV team make the playoffs last night? Good to have 2 blueshirts in the playoffs. I hope we get the Blue Jackets in the 2nd round.

  30. On the Sather list you have to put: Jagr plus $4m (WSH paying half his salary) for Anson Carter straight up

  31. Stranger Nation on

Does Richie Rocket get the hattie tonite? He loves these end of season games against the slugs.

Next 2 games would like to see
    – Brass tie career pt mark (47 pts – needs 3)
    – Zucc get 20 goals (needs 1 more – shoot!)
    – Pullout gets 15 goals (1 more)

    and everyone is healthy!!!

  32. Stranger Nation on

David LeNeveu has stabilized Hartford goalie situation and helped Pack reach POs.

  33. Rob in Beantown on

It would be really Rangers-like for the Rangers to lose tonight. But I’m actually feeling hopeful for a change and think they win going away.

    So that means they’re doomed.

  34. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Rangers are a tough team to defend against. Four good lines are rolling every game.

    Rangers 23
    Sabres 0

    GWG Brassard

  35. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Manny – be nice if every player scores one tonight including Hank, Tam, and the scratches…

  36. hey all, haven’t checked in for a bit…

hopeful of a big win tonight and philly loss so we can coast on saturday with cam!

looking forward to the playoffs, shaping up like we might be able to do some damage!

    let’s go rangers!!!

  37. Can’t believe no one’s mentioned this directly already (side mention of Jags notwithstanding):

Best part about last night? Reveling in the fact that the Derbils fate was out of their hands. Buh bye playoffs! See you at the 19th… Priceless.

Oh and same for the fraud Caps too and their 26 ROWs. Key leadership from the not-so-great-8. -34 as of now, has been lower. May day, may day…

Having said that, the playoff matchups all became very interesting. Repeating others, gotta take care of beeswax tonight, boys against the lowly baby buffaloes. There is no excuse for a “trap” game at this point in the season tonight when every game matters. Go out and get it!

    ‘Nuff said.

  38. Trading Middleton for Hodge cost the Rangers at least 1 cup from 79-84. Even with the Islander dynasty.

  39. Sinatra said: “I feel bad for people that don’t drink. In the morning, when they wake up, that’s the best they are gonna feel ALL DAY”

  40. ‘A sittin’ here la la waitin’ for my ya ya, ah-huh, ah-huh.
A sittin’ here la la waitin’ for my ya ya, ah-um, ah-um.’

  41. Falk can’t make optional skate. Has to stop by CVS and pick up a new pregnancy test kit.

  42. If you take the shootout wins away from the Wings, the Devils would only be two points behind them.

The shootout really fugged over the Devils. 0-11. They win eight of those, then they’re in the playoffs right now.

  43. With Carcillo on the team, I would put Kreider in a non-contact sweater at practice. It might help deter Carcillo from doing something Carcillo-ey.

  44. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Thought sure you would use the pic of Harvey jumping varada after that empty net goal ;)

  45. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Booby – The killing jar, Israel, and peek-a-boo….not to mention Christine, the Strawberry girl…

  46. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Middleton for Hodge may be the all time worst trade in the history of sports. I was floored when I heard about it…

  47. Alex Ovechkin scored 50 goals and somehow managed to put up a -34 for the season. Is that because he only scores on the PP?

  49. Not my cup of tea, Sioux but they were a very influential Rock/Post Punk band from the UK back in the late 70’s and 80’s.

Their lead singer went by Siouxsie Sioux. I suppose she loves Kristo nowadays.

  50. Wicky, my favorite quote from the article “The league has said it is cracking down on blows to the head.”

    16 years…still “cracking down”.

  51. My favorite quote from a head coach late in the NCAA tournament: “My team had a hunger in they eye.”

  52. And South Florida dropped Masiello because he’s a few credits short of a degree, lol.

  53. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

My fave part was the rangers had avoided league discipline due to Campbell being their former coach

  54. If rangers lose to Pittsburgh in 5-6 games that series would have been lost tonight. That’s importance of tonight game.

No excuses these 2 pts are vital.

  55. Coos, re Sergio. I would really like to see him get one. Green would be the best one for him.

  56. Wow, Hartford was dead last most of the season. They improved dramatically. Where is that clown who wanted Gernander fired?

  57. Of course, when you’re four over beginning the back nine on Sunday, it pretty much has already started; in fact, it’s over.

  58. Honestly, since I let Eric do my scoreboard watching for me, my anxiety levels are way down. Thanks.

  59. I feel bad for Hartford. They had NO goaltending all season and kept trying to make some moves to find someone to fill in there.

  60. If management had any confidence in this team, in it would have loaned Zucc to Hartford for the last month!

  61. Siouxdie Machetto on

Are they still doing the odds as Tiger vs. the field? Because I’ve got a pretty good feeling about the field this year.

  62. Siouxdie Machetto on

Although, if the competition was A tiger vs. the field, I like the tiger’s chances. I’d also like golf a lot more.

  63. Expect Jonas Hiller be isles next goalie after John Gibson is the future for ducks. Kid was great last night.

  64. You know its a good day when a Native American comes into your office and talks about the Baffalo Baby Bison I have on my wall. And asked me if I knew anything about the painting that is on the skull. (Me not a clue. I bought it in Carps honor. I didn’t have a Bonehead) Then he proceeds to tell me about a Sioux Warrior Society, that his GrandFather was a part of for the Lakota Tribe in ND many years ago.

It turns out that the society, is a marking of the most Fearsome Fighters in the Sioux tribe, also in charge of the Tatonka Hunt for the year.

It was such a good story, I had to goggle it after he left my office. It was there. Info was found. Who knew.

It’s going to be a SIOUXper day.

  65. Doodie our team is on at 8:30 EDT. Union and BC are on at 5:00. ESPN2

Wicky you need to subtract by 2 :)

  66. Quite an amazing path for Gibson too who went against Sioux’s advice and backed out of playing in College.

  67. Stranger Nation on

college hockey is great but how do you have your Final/Frozen 4 in mid April for a winter sport

if Union wins, that will be an amazing story

  68. Stranger Nation on

Cabrera was smoking a cigar the size of Zucc’s arm yesterday during Par 3 event.
Followed him at Winged Foot, he is hilarious. Root for him all the time!

  69. My favorite golfer to follow was always Hisayuki Sasaki. The guy smoked like a chimney. He used to carry his own bag and have his caddy roll cigarettes for him. He also could put up incredible numbers in any given round. I watched him lead the Greater Hartford Open by about 10 strokes and then manage to miss the cut. Unreal.

  70. The Ducks getting John Gibson was case of the rich getting richer. Incredibly, they just signed collegiate free agent goalie Ryan Faragher out of St. Cloud State. Faragher attended the Rangers 2013 Development Camp in the summer. His numbers slipped a bit, but I was hoping NY would have signed him.

  71. Siouxdie Machetto on

Stranger, we need a backup. And Hartford needs goaltending, too. It doesn’t help our prospects to miss the playoffs.

  72. Rob in Beantown on

Gibson is pretty young for an NHL goalie. Is he really ready to be the Ducks’ number one next season?

  73. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I’m texting you a pic for your new avatar after tonight…

    State of hockey baby!!!

  74. Siouxdie Machetto on

Best of luck to @GopherHockey tonight in the #FrozenFour against the gopher rejects

Oh snap! You gonna take that, Sioux!?

  75. Rangers might need a backup as early as next season. Cam Talbot is UFA after next season. I can’t see the Rangers being to pay him enough for Talbot to pass up a chance to be a starter somewhere else.

On the other hand, a goalie making less than $600,000 is going to entice some teams to look to Talbot as the answer. You get a goalie making practically nothing next year who could be signed before hitting the open market.

Don’t get me wrong< i would be more than happy to have Talbot backing up The King, but do the Rangers want to run the risk of losing him for nothing in the summer of 2015?

They'll have plenty of cap space available then, but they will also only have Nash, McDonagh, Girardi and (if he is not bought out) Richards under contract.

  76. or, more appropriately asked:

How many goals will MSL score tonight?

    0,0,0, … maybe 0?

  77. Good afternoon all!

Ah, what a lovely day…bidding adieu to the Debbies and Crapitals.

Sioux, congrats! That is tremendously tremendous.

Carp, on your comment yesterday…”Nobody, nobody anywhere, could have imagined that line would be this good for this long … or that Zuccarello would be this kind of player … winning this type of award. Nobody.”

I have to take exception on Zucc…come on. Many, including me and Krisy, have been championing him since the start and knew he had something in him. It was only a matter of time, IMHO….

  78. “All right, now, get mad at them damned eggs. Eat it there, boy. Chew on it. Gnaw on it.”

  79. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Only a matter of time and putting him with the only centre on the team that makes his wingers better

  80. Wickster!!!!! hahaha…you typed centre….

Nothing against Dorsett, but you are wrong, IMO….

  81. Hey Vicky. I agree with Momma. I don’t see how Dorsett was getting the award. I think if it wasn’t Zucc it was going to McDonagh because he’s their future. The organization might attempt to part ways with Dorsett so they probably don’t want to hand him that award.

  82. I don’t think there are many, if any teams who would give Talbot the No.1 job based on such a small sample.

  83. Robby Bonfire on

The Rangers really screwed up the Ken Hodge transactions/ non-transaction, badly, both at the beginning and near the end of his career. We know we got the remaining 30 goals of Hodge’s career for the 300+ goals remaining in Rick Middleton’s career. But what about, when we traded Camille Henry to the Black Hawks, we took, in return, a young player named Doug Robinson, when a young Chicago system player named Ken Hodge was available. You add Ken Hodge at right wing for the Rangers in the late 60’s and early 70’s, well, that would have hurt Boston, and helped us enough to where we would actually might have won a Cup in the Emile Francis, Ratelle, Gilbert, Hadfield, Park, Howell, Nevin Seiling Giacomin, etc. era. It was that final piece in the championship puzzle we were always missing.

  84. So does Brassard make his wingers better, or does he not play with good wingers? Because he has the same amount of points that he always has.

  85. Robby, shouldn’t you be complaining about the illegitimate goalie pulling that every team is allowed do? :)

  86. Could you imagine that fat toad in a ranger uniform playing 25 games. Just the thought is hilarious.

  87. @SNHockeyCentral Martin Brodeur uncertain about future in Jersey

Yeah don’t misunderstand that what he meant was he is not sure he can, any longer, fit in the jersey. #iamseanavery

  88. LMAO and Nancy and Vicky….

Too be honest, in my voting, I was really torn between McDonagh and Zucc, but I had to go with my heart, and I’m glad the other fans did too.

  89. Go away bad Marty….just go away…I’d say do it with some class, but I don’t see that happening.

  90. I think Zucc was the right choice. Every one expected McD to be great, and he was. Without him, this team wouldn’t be where it is now. He would be the right choice for MVP. Zucc, after he started slow and was benched, really turned it up a few notches and opened many eyes. Extra effort belongs to him, IMO

  91. Almost time for Game 1 today!

    Who wins UNION or BC?

Both are #1 seeds. Both have great stories this year.

Personally I want Union to win, but my hockey mind tells me B.C.

Anyone on here know more about these teams THIS year?

  92. Carp – Talbot’s stock is only going to get higher if he keeps putting up the numbers he has this year.

  93. The thing you don’t want to hear from Feherty if you’re playing in a Major: “He has a bit of a chance to save par here.”

  94. Siouxdie Machetto on

Actually, it was even worse for me. I put on a 1/4 of a Brodeur. I’d say I’m at 3/4s of a Brodeur right now.

  95. “That bogey attempt was a bit too strong. Now he has a longer putt coming back than he did on the original one.”

  96. The Masters is iconic, but it’s really the US Open that separates the boys. Love to see 2 Overs win tournaments. A windy day at the Open, and the best in the world start to look a bit like us. :)

  97. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I feel the same way about calmbot as you do in your 4:33.

Hank was really struggling and if not for that stretch where talbot stepped up big time, the rangers would be down with the craps and devils

  98. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

The thing about zucc, and I think it is great he plays with such bravado, but you guys don’t realize that when he starts getting into people faces, no one is going to really do anything to him because he is so small. It’s not like someone is just going to pummel him, it is a losing fight for the other guy (unless it’s gerbe or conacher) no matter the outcome.

Zucc is smart enough to know this, so he does what he does.

  99. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

It must be tough for some guys to keep a straight face when he is being tough after the whistle.

  100. “Zucc is smart enough to know this, so he does what he does.”

    and your point wickster? :)

  101. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

If I kill all the golfers they’re going to lock me up and throw away the key

  102. Jeff in South Dakota on

The Buffalo here in SD are starting to have their calves now — HELP! there are baby buffalo everywhere!

  103. Rob in Beantown on

I actually hope Union doesn’t win. When upstarts like Yale win national championships it devalues the championships that my team has. I’d rather fewer schools have national championships so they’re more rare and valuable. Also, eff the ECAC.

That’s in stark contrast to basketball where I always root for the mid majors to upend the status quo and win a national championship. But I don’t really have a dog in that fight.

  104. Jeff, send a couple to Carp, c/o Journal News, unless Sioux already has them in transit. :)

  105. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

My point is everyone loves zucc because he is small, if he is pouliots size, everyone treats him like Pouliot.

    He is the anti Boyle

If he is pouliots size, he doesn’t win the award.

  106. Jeff in South Dakota on

Cinderella story. Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac… It’s in the hole! It’s in the hole! It’s in the hole!

  107. wicky, my point is, despite his size, and everyone getting on him about it, his obvious innate and great offensive skill has finally been given a chance to shine…he don’t have have the most points for nothing….

  108. Rob in Beantown on

I go to business school at night at BU. But I’m also kind of a poseur because I witnessed exactly 0 of those national championships…

  109. Belushi should have been the golf cart repair guy in ‘Caddyshack,’ with broken-down golf carts all over the course.

  110. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Not trying to be a zuc buzzkill here (and I like the guy) but he has the advantage after the whistle of knowing the chances are pretty slim when he goes and gets in people faces he’s not actually going to have to answer the bell.

Most other players of more “average” stature may not have that same sense of frivolous confrontation

  111. Number of years ago, Howard Stern offered to donate 5 mil to BU, and wanted a Communications building named after him. BU board giggled, then declined.

  112. I don’t think he won this award for being feisty after the whistle, Wicky. He won it for being the steady offensive force he’s become since late October.

  113. wicky, are we engaging in a frivolous confrontation?

coos, he started in radio on BUR…I am thankful the school turned him down

  114. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I have no argument whatsoever about his offencive prowess in the least bit (same with msl), but the in your face toughness thing is a bit ummm exaggerated IMHO.

But everyone loves an underdog, and I like the runt (even if we do have too damn many runts)

  115. The first time i noticed the other team laughing at MZA acting tough was after Staal got hit by Neil and MZA was pushing and slashing the ankles of i believe it was Gryba, but could be some other very tall (in average terms not MZA terms) Senator.

  116. LMAO wicky at “(even if we do have too damn many runts)

Lev, ilb and I are more right, IMHO :)

  117. Rob – The Sioux are 2 behind Michigan, so I need the boys to catch up, and steal one this year. The Sioux are not as strong as the other 3 teams this year. I don’t think they were ever in the top 10 after the year started.

  118. If Dorsett had 15 goals, he would have been in the running. And if my grandmother had…..

  119. Mykingdomforanavatar on

I respectfully decline to lay waste to any more cute, fuzzy little electrons than have already been wasted here today:-).

  120. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Did u guys see this from kypreos?

Could #Rangers situation regarding Sather’s future be delaying Shanahan’s decision to accept #Leafs offer? More on @Sportsnet Connected

  121. If Shanny is in the running for Rangers GM, now is our chance to go crazy on the ice and expect no suspensions!

  122. The best time to have dinner in NY when you got a toddler is early. Unfortunately, it’s the worst time to do it in Naples. WTB? Do people retire so they can have early mornings or something?

  123. The old Florida Early Bird Specials! When I had toddlers, they did a nice job in the IHops. Syrup city.

  124. Siouxdie Machetto on

Carp, my brother will be there. Officer Machetto likes nothing more than to use excessive force.

  125. I’m thinking I will have to find a beer soon. My nerves are killing me, knowing my team could get “KO” tonight. We are a big time underdog looking at the odds. Win or Lose it’s been a heart attack of a season, and a fun ride for sure, regardless of the outcome.

    Have Siouxper night Boneheads.

See you on the other side!

    #RollTribe #Skatefor8

  126. Only 1 thing scares me about Buffalo. Stafford is the type of guy that will score a game winning goal against the Rangers. So I hope the boys don’t take the Buffalo Baby Buffalos to lightly.

Bison steaks on me if the Sioux win tonight!!!

Yes Wicky – you will get an extra one :)
