  1. Not venturing far from my hibernation den today! Brrrrrr! It’s cold and snowy out there! Fans show up, but some of the top players opt to stay home in the cold, snowy weather…

  2. Oh great! Letang and Malkin might be back tonight!
Can’t say im bothered about facing Pyatt, just don’t let him score!!

  3. Pens need all the warm bodies they can find to field a team without injuries…shows the difference a motivating coach and strong farm system can make. Even without Letang and Malkin suiting up, our team would have their hands full

  4. Down to 4.5 Degrees F last night with lots of snow and wind…can’t remember last time we’ve had a storm like this just north of NYC, maybe 20 years ago?

  5. Anthony DuClair!!!! Whew!!! A youth movement!!!!!
Great to have another 5’11”, 185 player!

  7. This is an awesome Friday. Guilt free day off from work. Game night to start off the weekend. Pumped!

  8. I’m ok with his size because I don’t think Duclair is supposed to be a player that plays “big”

  9. Hope there’s plenty of movies or Seinfeld re-runs on TV to keep you all going till game time!

I live on a Tertiary Road, do I have to stay off it?

  18. Larry Brooks refers to The Kreider in the Post today as:

    Chris ‘Doesnt Wotk Overtime’ Kreider.

    That’s pretty funny.

  19. Any doubt that Pyatt plays on Crosby’s line and nets two tonight?

And then, for good measure, after a year and a half of pacifism, tonight he’ll also kick the crap out of, yes, you guessed it, Brian Boyle?

Than tomorrow, he’ll cash his hefty paycheck, courtesy Glen Sather.

  20. I hope Pyatt plays solid along the boards and generally good defense and someone says we could use a guy like that. And I hope he looks directly into the camera when he’s interviewed between periods.

  21. ILB, as a Doctor of Medicine, they should plow your road first, even if,by definition, it’s tertiary.

  22. @DarrenDreger

Rangers in Toronto tomorrow. Expect Del Zotto’s agents (Newport) to meet with NYR’s brass to discuss Rangers continued efforts to trade him.

  23. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

If cally goes in for Pouliot, that is just stupid. He should be going in for d Moops or Boyle.

  24. I don’t know that you can take Pouliot out this *moment* but he will play himself out of the lineup eventually.

I wouldn’t touch that 4th line right now. Boyle-D.Moops-Dorsett has been a pretty effective line. I keep it together. I would site Hagelin or Richards. Hagelin could probably use the wake up call. And Richards, well, he probably won’t get injured in the press box.

  25. Yes, by all means keep the all-important 4th line intact so as to hold on to a late-game deficit and lose with dignity. Alternately, you could try to win the the game by scoring goals. Hagelin or Richards? Please.

  26. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I’m fine with sitting secretariat, but I don’t think the organization would like that.

  27. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I still think we should add d Moops or Boyle along with the mad bomber and send them to the sens for methot. Or a forward of interest not named dorsett from the bottom 6.

  28. Rob in Beantown on

I’m “working from home” because Boston doesn’t know how to remove its snow.

Is Pyatt playing tonight so he can score the GWG?

  29. Happy snow day. My 3 yr old driving me nuts.

Trade del zaster already. Get what u could get and move on.

Pyatt. Goal and assist pens 4-2

  30. Put Cally on the 4th. He can play tough and get his minutes up over time, work his way back into his usual minutes. And he can score.

  31. Guess it’s Pouliot coming out. Why ride the hot hand on Offense. Vigneault only does that with goaltenders.

  32. Stranger Nation on

MZA, MEZ and a small prospect (many to choose from) for a top 6 forward with *playable toughness*

MZA’s stock will never be higher and he and MEZ can apartment room together in new city…

  33. I’d rather take Pouliot’s hot hands out before they turn cold and dumb than take Miller out. Keep the kid in for good.

  34. Is Ryan Callahan going to immediately start killing penalties again? I would prefer that he doesn’t.

  35. I have a hunch it will be Miller but, come on. I really want that kid to just Center the 3rd line for the rest of the season. Leave Richie at LW and put Step on the first line, Brass on the second and D. Moops/Boyle on the 4th. That’s fine Center depth.

  36. Totally, Stranger. If some team wants to hope that MZA really is St. Louis-lite, make that deal.

  37. Everyone who comes back from an extended injury should play in Hartford for a week despite union objections. They always say “I’m okay with my performance tonight, but it will take a while to play my way back to top shape.”

  38. *KONOPKA CLAIMED* ………… by the Sabres

    @Russostrib 1m

Zenon Konopka has been claimed off waivers by the #sabres, I hear #mnwild

  39. Coos – don’t they have “conditioning stints” where they get 10 days to play on the AHL level?

  40. LOL at Proteau. If he didn’t write all those books against fighting in the NHL I would have laughed harder and been on his side…..

  41. ?@stevezipay *Miller* a healthy scratch. AV says hes played well. Numbers game.

    Worst Choice possible

  42. @AGrossRecord

JT Miller will come out of line for Callahan. Brassard back to center. DZ and Falk remain out, per AV.

  43. …”Seriously, guys, WHO’S PYATT?”…

    Huge Saving (for Organization)! $0.99
    2013-14 O-Pee-Chee Parallel Ranger – Taylor Pyatt #138.
    LAST ONE! Never Again!

  44. In AVs defense, Miller don’t score much. I’d have sat a 4th-liner, but it makes sense. There will be injuries, and Miller has time on his side.

  45. Pretty sure the player has to accept, Carp/Sioux. He can refuse. Some teams could use this as a way to avoid waivers.

  46. I would probably make that trade. I like Kadri. Gardiner is essentially a throw away. Del Zotto is a throw away. So it’s Girardi, who doesn’t fit this stupid system, for Nazem Kadri who absolutely will and can play Center should Brassard move on.

  47. Why don’t they scratch Dorsett instead to let his wrist heal a bit more? There is a reason he hasn’t gotten into any fights after he fought Sestito.

  48. In fairness to Hasselhoff’s stunt double, Pouliot, he should remain in for as long as he continues to play the way he is. Has he turned a corner or does he have spurts like this every season?

  49. It is worth noting that the Sabres did not claim Pyatt (because they would have gotten him over the Penguins) but leapt at the opportunity for Konopka.

  50. So my question for the Day is – Shouldn’t the Rangers be playing Del Zotto if they are serious about trading him?

    Has he dropped *that* low?

  51. ilb! That’s been a nagging question in my small mind. Can he be THAT disciplined? He still plays with vigor.

  52. Stranger Nation on

Bad news is Mr Ed plays center now pretty much negating any even strength production from his line and possibly letting in a couple as he struggles in D zone.

Last game at home, The French Poodle played Step’s line against Crosby line and they outplayed that line. Blysma will probably do the same or play them v Richards’ line with equal or greater effectiveness.

  53. Anyone else think that Michael Del Zotto, on top of everything else, is totally confused by AV asking him for more offense when he has yet to master defense?

  54. Del Zotto is still a baby and will likely thrive somewhere else. Highly regarded talent who will now leave for next to nothing. Has himself to blame for not succeeding here, may wake up when he realizes how little it will have taken to get him, the Rangers’ 7th or 8th defenseman.

  55. Hello Gentlemen,

Welcome to 2014 and welcome to another year of Rangers mediocrity.

You guys rise and shine with hopes of these no-talents putting it together … with hopes of Queen Henrik coming back to form … with hopes of Poulet turning into a superstar.

But I know better. So listen up when I tell you that the only hope I have is that this team doesn’t get relegated to the AHL.

These court jesters are going to stink up the joint. Starting tonight with that I predict to be a 9-0 loss with Malkin, Crosby, and Kunitz hat tricks.

  56. Mannys on fire w all the serious hockey talk the last 48 hours.

With Brassard probably going back to center tonight I would move Nash to his wing and Put Stepan and Callahan back together.
Gives both players a line mate they’ve had success with preciosuly and maybe create a little spark w one or both of step and gnash

  57. Carp – are the Rangers on a role enough to steal a game from the penguins on the road?

  58. _Has himself to blame for not succeeding here, may wake up when he realizes how little it will have taken to get him_

“You know, he’s right. I never should have moved myself to the right side,” thought Michael.

  59. Cap is going up by 10.5% next year, it seems. Which is around $6.8M. Which is just over Richards’ AAV. I need a strong antiemetic.

  60. If we’re getting anyone from TOR, screw Kadri. I want Tyler Biggs! But I want E. Kane more.

  61. This USA hockey stuff is getting ridiculous. The takeaway shouldn’t be “reporters should be nicer” or “execs should be nicer to Bobby”, it should simply be “Brian Burke is a terrible evaluator of talent”. That’s it.

  62. Kadri is the exact type of player we should be targeting if he’s really available. Young, top 6 talent. Get him twice.

  63. Since when has sports coverage in this country been anything BUT nice?

Go to Brazil and the sportscasters RIP the players, coaches, management to shred LIVE on the air. So much better.

  64. Well, its not nice here so long as the player being discussed is one of the guys you’re allowed to be not nice to. Like Alex Rod or someone. I think the bigger issue, more than Ryan being sad or angry, is that Burke got exposed and execs like him are supposed to be off limits.

  65. Amen. I love Kadri. I really think he would enjoy playing in NYC (as would E. Kane). I assume they want to move Kadri because of the contract they gave Bozak. So they are essentially choosing Bozak over Kadri (which is odd). Kadri as a 2nd line Center would be a dream. It’s like having two Stepans.

  66. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_Worth mentioning Tedenby went 4 picks after MDZ._

    Why is that worth mentioning?

  67. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_Every team would rather have Boyle than Zuccarello_.

  68. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Has Pacioretty proven to be an annual producer yet? Thought so.

  69. I thought Hockey Seasons spanned two years? As in this season would be 2013-2014…. Thus I think that’s “annum”

  70. teddenby sounds like the little thing Sebastian carried around in Evelyn Waugh’s ‘Brideshead Revisited.’

  71. Do the Rangers move Del Zotto at the trade deadline, or do they wait until draft day?

  72. The wise play on moving Del Zotto — wait until you have to play him due to injuries and he has a good enough game to attract more than zero bidders.

  73. it still drives me nuts that the rangers selected Dylan McIlrath over Fowler when we was ranked 5th overall in North American skaters. The franchise and the fans are so in love with the idea of filling the shoes of Beuke. He’s one of my favorites all-time and I’d love to have him or Ulf for that matter however the game has changed and that type of player is not really needed. A tough few who can stand up for other players and throw checks constantly would be nice. Mcllrath is not our guy!!!!

  74. Stranger Nation on

With Staal back, MEZ would play over Moore, which would be fine if they are trying to move him.

  75. So do the Ducks put up big scoring numbers because of Fowler or does an offense-first D like Fowler look a lot better playing on a high scoring team. Hmmm?

  76. Steve Ott ?@otterN9NE Welcome @ZenonKonopka SnowFlake can’t wait to meet Hoppy! Sabre bunnies for sale soon? pic.twitter.com/lb6H5cW7G4

  77. “I’m excited to come to a Stanley Cup contender,” says old #14. What does that tell us, class? Probably nothing.

  78. I wouldn’t mind Stafford from the Baby Buffalos.

You would think they are going to start rebuilding, and trading off some of their veteran players. He has 1 year left at $4M. He’s doesn’t have a lot of help on that team, he would do will in Red, White, & Blue.

  79. Had Sauer developed a year sooner, they may have taken Fowler before McIlrath. But, timing is everything.

  80. Stranger Nation on

Scary to think where we might be without special teams play. Need to pick it up 5v5 in 2014

  81. Good point Stranger. Back in the summer when I was hoping for an improvement in their PP numbers, I was kinda counting on their 5 v 5 play at least staying the same.

  82. Cally’s back, Malkin out, Pyatt in all adds up to a Rangers win!

    Hank will win this one!

    Book it!!

  83. Stranger Nation on

Fowler is talented but they have a good top 6 which takes pressure off the D. That and 12 points on PP (10A) is strong

They didn’t draft Fowler probably because they had El Zotto and Staal and would eventually get McD.
Ergo ipso facto, if we had drafted Fowler you would still have Gomez!

If no injuries our D should have looked like:
    Sauer – McD
    Girardi – Staal
    McIlbeast – MDZ

    not bad, eh?

  84. He’s back now Doc.

I’m thinking he would be the highest return for Del Zotto, but he has one more year on his contract. Buffalo needs everything. They would do that deal.

  85. DZ for Penner. He’s got a lot of points this year, and Bruce has put him on the bench a couple of games. How big is his contract?

  86. I don’t relish memories of Sauer putting us in a pickle. He and McD would have condimented one another and been our backline bread and butter, jarring and bottling up opponents’ top lines. Vinegar would have loved them.

  87. Unless a deal can be done in Winnepeg.

They are not playoff bound. Do you trade DZ & a 1’st round for Kane?

  88. Nash, MDZ, Asham/Powe, Hrivik, 2nd in 2015 for E. Kane, Bogosian. Book it! If they don’t wanna trader Bogosian, that means we’re getting Stuart, so drop Hrivik and make the pick a third or fourth rounder.

  89. leetchhalloffame on

Glad he’s gone but pretty much a foregone conclusion that Pyatt scores two and Cally gets hurt again tonight.

  90. I wont be able to watch the game tonight because ill be pulling another 7pm – 7 am shift plowing the streets and spreading salt as a proud member of the DSNY…last night was brutal, tonight probably wont be too much better, but hey, its OT so i can complain LETS GO RANGERS!!!!

  91. For as long as I can remember I’ve had memories.

Good luck, Vibz! I bet you do a better job than the guys in my neck of the woods do..

  92. Thanks, Latona. We do our best i drove all over my entire district last night, bronx 10 (throggs neck / pelham bay area), and even some of manhattan too last night cant wait to see what tonight has in store for me!

  93. Kane has a $5.25 salary for 4 more years.

They could use Del Zotto, Kristo/Miller could fill Kane’s spot, and a high draft pick.

  94. It’s hard to trade Del Zotto as a rental, if he doesn’t sign with the team he is traded to.

  95. MDZ doesn’t have a ton of leverage heading into RFA. If anything, a team that likes him might see that as leverage to go longer term.

  96. Who’s ready for a “Pyatt special” … aka, hat trick + assist + fight vs. former team?

  97. The “Pyatt Special” is that feeling you get in your tummy when you think its you he’s looking at.

  98. Stranger Nation on

If Pyatt drops the mitts tonite that will be the end of time. 6’3″ & 230 lbs had 16 PIM in 82 games with NYR and my guess most of those were hooking or high sticking.

Gomer Pylon was a del zaster in blue

  99. Great opportunity tonight, Penguins really thin. Pyatt on the THIRD line. Shut down the Crosby line and cover the points.
