It’s Go Time! … Rangers at Panthers

[polldaddy poll=7681419 align="left"]
Game 41.panthers
Rangers at Panthers.

Happy New Year’s Eve! Please, please, please be smart and be safe if you’re celebrating. Or if you aren’t.

Holy shishkebob! Is it really the halfway point of the season after tonight’s game? Last season at this point we didn’t even know if there would be a season.

The Rangers have played 100 games in the calendar year 2013 (including playoffs) and are 50-44-6, which in reality is exactly .500. So tonight determines a winning or losing year.

The Rangers have won three of their last four and are 4-2-1 in their last seven. After a  hot streak, the Panthers have lost three of their last four. The Rangers are 2-0 against Florida this season.

Marc Staal (concussion, missed 10 games) and Anton Stralman (wrist) will return to the lineup. Conor Allen, impressive in his NHL debut two nights ago, remains in on defense. Michael Del Zotto, Justin Falk and Taylor Pyatt are prucha’d.

Henrik Lundqvist starts his second straight in goal, after sitting three in a row then beating Tampa Bay Sunday.

No Gomez!

Don’t forget to vote for the Three Rangers Stars in the poll on the left.

Also, if you want to volunteer to select stars with me for any game(s) in the second half of the season, drop me an email at

I’m hoping to do mid-season report cards (hopefully between tonight’s game and Friday’s game). Unless somebody else wants to do them. Or do them with me. I’m open to suggestions. Again:

Let’s Go Rangers!!!! End 2013 with a win!!!!! WOOOOOO!!!!!!!
    2014 we win the Cup!!!!!!!!

  2. “Last season at this point we didn’t even know if there would be a season.”

Ugh, lockouts are the absolute worst. I’m sure it’s been discussed to death on Rangers Report already but Bettman’s reign of lockouts is one of the biggest reasons why so few people take hockey seriously. Embarrassing.

Also pretty neat stat about the Rangers being .500 this entire year Carp. Make or break game tonight (s)!

  3. Rob in Beantown on

Holy cow, that’s crazy. We’re 50-50 this year, per Carp’s preview. Need to win tonight to to the scales

  4. Rangers Rule Tonight!!!

Goals in all three periods, power play, and short handed.

Panthers will be ALOT more interesting to watch next year after they sign Gold medal Grimaldi!

  5. The Boys need a win just to stay tied with the Devils & Flyers at 42 points.

Who knew we would be sitting behind them half way through the season? Crazy!

  6. Unfortunately Eddie the D stood me up at the blue line & took me out of the play. I retaliated & got a several night suspension!

  7. eddie eddie eddie on

Maloney, on radio, just told a nice story about allen conor’s older sister crying upon hearing her younger bro was called up to the big club

  8. Manny – the world junior game today was something else.

I’m wondering if the Canada team could beat the Rangers as is.

  9. Skjei should fit right in with the Rangers.

The one play I see him make, leave his guy in front of the net all alone to bury the game winning goal.

  10. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Hey, HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone here!!! Great comments all season and all year long!! Thanks!!

Thank you, Carpy, for providing this forum and such great reviews and spot on comments!!! You’re the best!!!!

    LGR!!! LGR!!!

Hanka Hanka appears on top of his game. Shutout for Hanka Hanka?

  12. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

I have been traveling for the last few weeks, checking in when I can. My first game in a while

Looks like we have really improved a lot.

  13. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

I read about Conor Alan’s play in his first game. Hope it continues and they can figure out who will be the defense here already. Not that he’s huge, but he has ok size.

Time to settle the MDZ situation, whichever way it goes. Can’t be good for team or him.

  14. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Is Sam really thinking Staal was out there with MacD for anything but caught in a change? Really, Sam?

Sam: “Nice, interesting defensive pairing of MacD and Staal.”

  15. Good evening all! And an early Happy New Year to all!

I have to work tomorrow so not much of a party night for me, but hope you all stay safe while having fun.

A despicably late happy 26th birthday to the blog doctor!!!!

LGR! Come on guys, let’s close out this year right!!

Holy hartnell, Allen is tremendously huge!

  16. Have a Siouxper night Boys.

Travel safe! Call a cab if you need one.

    See you all next year!!!

  17. eddie eddie eddie on

Torts – “nine more ******* hours till the New ******* Year. Happy ******* 2014 to all you ******* people. Don’t ******* drink and ******* drive tonight”

  18. I heard in South Dakota, they just put the bottle in front of you on the bar and you help yourself. And your spurs jingle on the way out. :)

  19. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

This matchup of two-time Vezina winner and Stanley Cup champion and Hanka Hanka has been tremendous.

  20. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Don’t care who he is. Sit Girardi. Get some of the cob webs out. No freaking free ride with that crap. Some accountability is needed here with everyone.

  21. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

Looking great against a team with 25 losses.

Maybe they’re counting the minutes till bottle service at some Miami club.

  22. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Nice scrum there, with our guys each 25 lbs and 5 inches plus less. We’re gonna teach Florida a lesson with that.

  23. eddie eddie eddie on

panthers have played well lately tho…

black panther, illegal in 9 countries….60% of the time, it works every time

  24. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Whew, Mr. Allan is some bright guy. He and Dom Moore should talk to each other.

  25. The only thing I’ve gotten out of this game so far is two bad teams going nowhere this season. The question is will the rangers be sellers or buyers. Being buyers will not make any sense because that might squeak them into the playoffs just to lose in the first round. The idea is to build a team to contend for the stanely cup, not to squeak into the playoffs and lose in the first round.

  26. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

At the beginning of the year, any one think Richards, Zucc’s and Pullout are our #1 PP unit?

Gotta admit, I couldn’t fathom it then, and disagree with it now.

  27. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Tommy, you watch Chicago v LA yesterday. Two really excellent teams. Different level of play.

  28. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

“The only currency a coach has is playing time.”

    — Tom Renney, for all the good it did him

  29. matty, yea, I watched parts of it and it shows me the rangers are light years away from contending for a cup.

  30. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

These two impotent offensive teams. But that first line of Florida is better than anything we have.

    Nash? Richards (ha!ha!)

    Quite sad.

  31. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Sad thing is, Tommy, and I doubt I am alone, as a fan, I sit and watch and want so much for us to win. But, WHY?? We are going absolutely nowhere for years. Years.

  32. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Two great articles in the Post yesterday, RIPPING Dolan. Two different beat writers.

Mostly for the Knicks debacle, but also for the Rangers.

  33. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Kenneth, one of the many obvious problems tonight and with any team with even average of more size is our tiny or wimpy bigger forwards can’t get near the net for rebounds. And, Thomas has left some. We just aren’t strong enough to get there.

Hard to fathom an experienced GM put this team together. And….has next to nothing in the minors.

  34. Matty, I stopped watching basketball after the nineties. I was a knick fan now I’m not a basketball fan anymore. I was a diehard mets fan. I haven’t watched baseball in 5 years. The only two sports I still watch is football. I’m a jet fan but I love football overall so even if the jets stink which they always do I will still watch football. I’ve always been a diehard ranger and hockey fan but I can see me in the near future not watching hockey anymore.

  35. TommyG, you can’t leave. “Just when you think you are out, they keep pullin you back in”

  36. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Just remember how good it felt 2 years ago. Every game we had a chance.

It was a whole lot of luck and some great coaching, but Sather didn’t deserve it. And it’s unlikely for him to be so fortunate again.

The good thing is he’s getting older.

  37. eddie3x,
doesn’t matter, basketball has changed, not interested in basketball anymore, doesn’t matter if the knicks were the best team in the sport.

  38. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Basketball, especially Knick basketball, is disgusting.

    Carmello: “Give me the ball.”

  39. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Lou signed Clowe long-term to rub Sather’s face in the multiple draft picks he blew on him for a whole 20 games.

One of Sather’s many brilliant deals. Truly, we were SO close to winning the cup last year, Clowe almost put us over (SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS).

  40. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Clowe’s speed was his greatest asset. Well worth the multiple draft picks

  41. Drove some fam to JFK late today, installed car seat in back of Accord, thinking all the time of Torts. What in hell is happening to me? You started it, eddie!

  42. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

They did have a couple of chances. But Florida’s first line is better than our talent. They look for real.

  43. leetchhalloffame on

Loooks like another OOOOOOffensive shutout for the boys tonight. Ending 2013 with another whimper. FIRE SATHER!!!

hope yours turns out better than a Girardi blind pass that leads to a goal against!
    (serenity now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

  45. eddie eddie eddie on

Torts – “hey kooz, hurry the **** up, If I ******* miss my ******* plane, I’ll be ******* seriously ******* mad. Also, turn the ******* radio up, I ******** love this ******* song”

  46. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

John Moore learning how to be a Ranger point man. Hit your own players on their heals

  47. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

It’s not like Hank has been tested much either. Both teams are impotent.

  48. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Wasn’t Nash billed as a great 3rd period, clutch player????? Is he out there????

  49. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Hanka Hanka has been solid and will still get the L.

  50. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Florida has 2 forwards that are 6’0″ or less.

Florida has 3 defenseman (Campbell) 6’1″ or less.

Rangers have 6 forwards listed as 6’0″ or less

Rangers have 5 defensemen 6’1″ or less

  51. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

The Secretariat double minor was total laziness.

So great when your veterans play with such grit and determination. Tonight, add Girardi to the usual Nash and Richards.

They need to find another level quickly.

  52. If there has been a lazier player in the history of professional hockey than Richards, I can’t imagine who that might be.

  53. Matty"We'reAbunchOfCreamPuffs!!"Boy on

Agreed, ThisYearsModel. Just gliding going on out there. Effort is lacking.

  54. ThisYearsModel on

Ugh. This is brutal. We are closer to last place then we are to first place in this pathetic division.

  55. CalLindAhan Loves McMonster on

seriously? losing the last game of 2013 to the panthers? this is either embarrassing or appropriate, i can’t decide!

  56. Fleischman’s margarine didn’t get the memo on going high to the glove side luckily.

    Hi Linda!

  57. Sam, in OT: “Get the puck to Girardi; he’s got the hot stick.” Cheeses, Sam. Somebody drive him to a WalMart parking lot and leave him there.

  58. Like the kid in his driveway with a basketball hoop playing HORSE, Richie Blinkers is a formidable terror so long as no one is in his face.

  59. Ronnie Dooogay appears to have had a little Henna rinse, blonding up for the late night appearance at the Peppermint Lounge.

  60. Za'rat "TheOtherGuy'sGreed" Jones on

    Pozy Wozy Woo Hoo!!

There was very little Negys posted and a lot of Pozys!!

Two hot sexy points by our boys!

My partner and I wish you all a pozy new year! He’s just as thrilled as I am. <3 :-*

Now we're gonna celebrate this pozy win all nigh long, in more ways than one!

  61. cooscoos, what did Richards ever do to you? A backhanded compliment seems to be the best you can manage, like Kenneth and Lundqvist. Do you even like it when the Rangers win?

  62. Steps does all the work, sets up Girardi for the point blanker, and Girardi wears himself the hat.

  63. eddie eddie eddie on

Norm – we love when the rangers win….and if Brad and his grill help make it happen…..HOORAY

    Neighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  64. Paul in sunrise on

That was much more king like. Dialed in during shoutout. Turning corners maybe for the king

  65. Za'rat "TheOtherGuy'sGreed" Jones on

Tonight our Pozys just overcame a champion goalie!

Isn’t Ron Dougay handsome? Too bad he’s straight :(

  66. eddie eddie eddie on

Maloney, too, is perplexed as to the lack of The Kreider in OT…”He sure has more space to work with”

  67. Thought Henrik might go out for three weeks with an shoulder injury, he was so energized after stoning those three shooters. Throwing punches like Sugar Ray Leonard.

  68. AV refuses to play The K late, but will play Secretariat late even AHEAD by a goal. Mindbender.

  69. Henrik figuratively (not literally) bubbling in radio interview like a little girl with the curl who just got an A in Algebra.

  70. Za'rat "TheOtherGuy'sGreed" Jones on

Not sure what you mean. When was I pretending to be something I’m not? I’m sorry if I misled you. If you’re out tonight, I’ll buy you a cocktail. I’ll be at G Lounge in NYC (W19 bet 7&8) Ask for me by name, it’s a fun place! You’re all welcome!!

  71. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Zarat – it’s all good. I always thought you were a female….happy new year to you and your partner….be safe tonight….

  72. Just trying to be funny, Za’rat. No offense, of course. Wish I could join you one eve if I’m lucky enough to have an ongoing invite. :)

  73. Za'rat "TheOtherGuy'sGreed" Jones on

Happy New Year! Yes Cooscoos, it’s an ongoing invite. Anyone in the area should come by! It’s a great fun place with positive energy!

  77. I just saw a shooting star. Looked like an effing 747 flying across the sky. I think Armageddon is close. Better clip my toenails, change my boxers and put on my new blue Nike sneakers.

  78. ‘Well she got her daddy’s car

Seems she forgot all about the library
Like she told her old man now
And with the radio blasting, she
Goes cruising just as fast as she can now

And she’ll have fun, fun, fun
‘Til her daddy takes the T-Bird away.’

Oh, baby. A little TMI, if you ask me. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, of course.
