It’s Go Time! … Rangers at Lightnings

Game 40.lightning
Rangers at Lightnings.

The Rangers play the second of a five-game trip, coming off a loss in Washington. They are 3-2-1 in their last six.

Henrik Lundqvist, who sat out the last three as Cam Talbot’s backup, goes back in goal tonight.

Conor Allen makes his NHL debut in place of Anton Stralman (undisclosed injury). Marc Staal (concussion) and Ryan Callahan (knee) remain out. All three injured players skated this morning. Taylor Pyatt is prucha’d.

Anders Lindback starts in goal for Tampa Bay, which lost a five-game winning streak with a shootout loss to Montreal Saturday.

Ben Bishop blanked the Rangers 5-0 in Tampa a month ago; the “love-fest for Martin St. Louis” according to Alain Vigneault, who claimed his team hit nobody that night.

  1. In this case, the No. 1 guy is a Rangers killer who shut them out last game … so it can’t be all bad to face the understudy.

  2. is it just the backup, or the backups backup, because we don’t fare well against those guys either

  3. the day sather is gone, we might be able to start seriously making the right moves to get to a Cup. as long as he’s here, the only cup we’ll see are dixie or solo

  4. I agree, the day the rangers get a real GM is the day the rangers organization becomes contenders, not pretenders.

We have a turkey tired team but tonight we get back on the winning track!!!!!

  7. anyone playing tonight for tb that hasnt scored their first nhl point? or hasnt scored since the 90s?

if so i hope they mark him

  8. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

    FIRE OLGA!!!!!

LINDA!!! Niceeeee , no AWSOME to see ya!!!!

  9. True Carp, no Bishop is definitely good news. No Stamkos as well. Not sure that completely evens out the playing field for us though…

  10. Linda I firmly believe that once out facebook “heave ho” routine died the Rangers died with it.

  11. I wonder if Nash is going to show up tonight? It would be nice to see the rangers 7.8 million dollar man do something good, anything good at this point would be a improvement.

    Hanka Hanka Burnin’ Love.

    Nash scores.

    Talbot creates the Nash goal.

  14. :True Carp, no Bishop is definitely good news. No Stamkos as well. Not sure that completely evens out the playing field for us though…”

The rookie who replaces Stamkos is more of a threat to score against NYR than Stamkos can ever be.

  15. CalLindahan Love McMonster on

i have to order my Talbot t shirt and wear is around town!!! He is repping the 256 very nicely

  16. CalLindahan Love McMonster on

Thanks xoxox Latona! As long as my baby girl gets better, that’s all i care about!

  17. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

The defense played responsibly and Hanka Hanka let them down.

  18. LOL way to call it Jonny.

Carp, Manny is mia. I’m gonna burn him with a tightly rolled crepe when I see him.

  19. CalLindahan Love McMonster on

i was giving benefit on the doubt with that one, thinking it could be sarcasm!!

  20. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Will Hanka Hanka allow one goal against in this game?

  21. Onecupin74yearsandcounting on

256 isn’t that the number on cosecutive games started by London Fletcher I have to play it now

  22. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Will Hanka Hanka allow two goals against in this game?

  23. ThisYearsModel on

Square to the shooter and Hank still gets beat. Good start to this game, and now we are back to normal.

  24. Pouliot currently on the rising side of the roller coaster track known as his career. what’s that mean will happen come mid February?

  25. CalLindahan Love McMonster on

i’m calling that one guy gouda and the other guy boootaaaaay for the rest of the game.

  26. CalLindahan Loves McMonster on

Romeo, first… great name. 2nd, when we’re counting forechecking attempts by our superstar, you know things are bad ;-)

  27. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_he went from being NashZilla to being Casper the overpaid ghost_

    Nashty to being concussed twice.

  28. Za'rat "TheOtherGuy'sGreed" Jones on

Told you Nash would score a goal. That just proves the power of pozy. Now I will leave for the night. If you all put on your pozy hats we win. If not, we will lose. The game is in your hands.

And as always. CHEER CHEER CHEER!! Never BOO BOO BOO!!

  29. CalLindahan Loves McMonster on

yea, never got into that whole nashty thingie, and yes, his concussions have impacted his game, but if he’s experiencing after effects, him ghosting on the ice the past several weeks has not helped the team.

  30. Olga Folkyerself on

So if the Rangers win, Zarat did it. If they lose, it’s our fault?

    Stick it up Zaratss.

  31. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_him ghosting on the ice the past several weeks has not helped the team._

Playing following concussions is an example of *toughness*.

  32. CalLindahan Loves McMonster on

well we’ll just have to agree to disagree. i think you’re head being in the clouds while on the ice is not to the betterment of the team.

  33. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Hanka Hanka saved a shot from Marty St. Louis. Really. It happened.

  34. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_i think you’re head being in the clouds while on the ice is not to the betterment of the team.

I am in agreement. It is Rangers management and medical staff that have played Nash following his concussions. He is displaying *toughness* and *courage* by playing.

  35. CalLindahan Loves McMonster on

and Kenneth, you’d thing they’d be extra careful with the big money man. All so bizarre.

  36. ThisYearsModel on

Zuccarello is earning himself another contract. Now, if other guys would live up to theirs…………

  37. McDonuts never ceases to amaze me. He’s already Leetch’s equal or better defensively. Offense, not many better than Brian, maybe McD someday. Lot to ask.

  38. And Zucc with yet another point. Best forward on this team by far. AV better not split up this PP unit anytime soon

  39. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Hanka Hanka is going to hold the Lightning to 2 goals against.

  40. I didn’t think Delzotto’s play could get any worse but he has been brutal tonight. Looks like a player who is blind.

  41. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Every team would rather have Boyle than Zuccarello. Did I paraphrase that correctly, Mister D?

  42. When under pressure, #19 will toss the puck absolutely anywhere and DelZ is closing in on the title.

  43. Linda…my lady is from Tampa & has her friend in I’m getting double teamed…and not in a good Eddie x 3 way! Double the dishes so that’s why I’m late! But I get to rag on them for their carcillo hockey team!

  44. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

A shot right into the breadbasket of Hanka Hanka. *Quality shot*

  45. CalLindahan Loves McMonster on

eesh Headzo, you should have gone to a friends house lol!!! or used paper plates ;-)

  46. Nash is in motion, not the night to rag on him. #20 a whirling dervish in first period, deserved his 2nd period goal.

  47. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

JR – “MDZ makes me look less stupider”

Engblom – “sorry, but you’re the most stupidest”

JR – “you are more stupidest than me Engblom”

Engblom – “not even I am more stupider than you”

  48. CalLindahan Loves McMonster on

tried it for the first time while pregaming before the Rangers Preds game in Nashville with agravaine.. her treat. It now has a permanent place in my apartment!

  49. Saw Allen interviewed 3X and he looked like a headlighted deer. On ice, he’s a lot more comfortable. Hope I don’t speak too soon.

  50. Eddie more like 1 on 2 but was rebuffed with extreme prejudice. Must have been the Fireball & bratwurst smell from the Giants game today!

  51. Ron Duguay thinks the man advantage is an advantage so the Rangers should take advantage of the advantage…

  52. e, you should see Bergman’s ‘The Seventh Seal.’ Medieval Knight plays chess with Death to forestall his demise.

  53. Allen plays with confidence, but he did put McD in a precarious situation earlier in the game. Good thing it was McD.

  54. Kenneth, are you that Barbie’s boyfriend or somethin’? You sound like one, with your dull, repetitive stuff, which makes poor trained parrot blushing.

  55. “Save by Lundqvist” how many times have you heard Sam say that tonight?

Hank is looking like his old self!

  56. CalLindahan Loves McMonster on

Hanks looking more comfy tonight, and more like himself. I’d like to see him roll out 5 games in a row like this (well really… the rest of the season like this) and see the team constantly improve in front of him and keep the scoring up. that would be really freakin nice

  57. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

As much as I enjoy criticizing his _highness_, there was nothing Hank Hanka Hank Hanka could do about that goal against.

  58. What in hell is John Moore doing out by the blue line leaving McDonagh alone with three enemies in front of the net?

  59. ThisYearsModel on

McMonster is not perfect? Boo boo’s like that are rare for him. Puck should have been out of the zone 30 seconds before that goal.

  60. with all this concept of “moment”, I still can’t comprehend, how team comes from total domination to the being dominated with no time…

  61. Hey, let’s not forget the total domination was built on three PPGs. Otherwise, at 5-on-5, it’s dead even throughout.

  62. ThisYearsModel on

J Moore did much better in the Tortorella zone defense system. He gets out of position way too much in this system. Sometimes his wheels let him get back, but not always.

  63. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Hanka Hanka resembled Hank Hank tonight, but still allowed 3 goals against, 2 at even strength.

  64. I like AV, but how in hell can you have Richards on ice late in a game like this? How, I ask you!

  65. ‘When some loud braggart tries to put me down
And says his school is great,
I say, whattsamatter buddy, ain’t you heard of my school?
We’re Number One in the State!
    Be true to your school…’

  66. Nash could have passed to Stepan on the right wing instead of trying to shoot through 2 opposing players at the empty net. Stepan had a clear lane to shoot.

  67. Chicago —

    The feelin’ is clear
Clear as a blue sky on a sunny day
    Everything was you
‘Cause no one made me feel
The way I felt with you
    *Gall on me* ’cause
    I love you
    You know I do
    You love me too

  68. korobov…first nhl point….its pretty amazing how often that happens vs nyr…wonder if theres a stat that shows what team that happens to the most.. my money is on nyr

  69. Like Phil Mickelson chipping, TGO probably practiced 80 foot shots on net and had it down by age 14.

  70. CalLindahan Loves McMonster on

have a great night Gents!!! gotta get those last 2 points of 2013 Tuesday night!!

  71. A large part of our hopes lies with Pullout, Kreider, and yes you, Nash, going to the net and making your presence felt there!

  72. Time to vote.

Y isn’t Stralman up there in the ballot? i thought he payed his best game in three weeks tonite.

  73. Rob in Beantown on

Richie was selfishly shooting for the open goal because he no longer is the team leader in goals, trailing Kreider by one. His play won’t be seriously questioned when he leads the team, but if he doesn’t….

  74. ‘The midnight boys are outside
Scraping tears up off the street
    Standin’ guard beneath the window
    Where only Linda sleeps…’

  75. easy answer, Papa, because I was having attacks throughout the playoffs and thought I was going to die at the draft and the parade in ’94.

  76. Amazing all the interesting unknown info that comes out when you mention gall. Glad I didn’t say syphilis.

  77. CalLindahan Loves McMonster on

make sure you guys tell C3 i was here. he’s been hounding me for many many months, and the night i’m here, he’s not! HA! but at least i got carped, saw some old pals and read some interesting things from new to me people! you guys were a blast tonight, thanks for the warm welcome back and the fun!!!

  78. The testicles of calves, lambs, roosters, and other animals are eaten in many parts of the world, under a wide variety of euphemistic culinary names.

  79. Testicles are cooked in a variety of ways: sautéed and sauced, fricasséed, deep-fried with breading or batter, in pies, poached, roasted, and so on.

Before cooking, they are generally scalded, skinned, and soaked in cold water.

  80. Eddie…the chloroform in their white wine was designed to take effect after the post game show. Patience….

  81. I think Nash played one of his best games of the season, pretty complete game for him IMO

    3 stars Zucc, Nash, Hank

  82. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_I’m watching the eagles cowboys game hoping they all break their legs_

It is only sport. That is extreme, yes?

  83. All I know is that he’s going to Boston College, Carp, which is a major victory in and of itself.

  84. Conor Allen had a pretty darn good debut. Definitely happy to see that kid be OK in the NHL, at least for a night. It makes a big difference if they can move Del Zotto for a Forward assuming Conor Allen can take his place (and I don’t see why he couldn’t).

  85. I really missed all the good stuff. I was ecstatic about the *NO* Stralman thing. That’s always good.

Speaking of, AV really likes to mix up the Defensive Pairs more than he likes to swap Forward Lines.

  86. IO think it’s a mistake mixing D pairs unless someone is really embarrassing himself. Girardi and McD know each other and perform well together.

  87. DelZ will give up the puck if pressured, and is inadequate in defensive positioning, almost as bad as Richie. That is not an admirable trait.

  88. Thanks, eddie!

Agreed, Coos. He’s been rough. And, as Carp mentioned, J. Moore has had some tough shifts.

  89. He actually left Conor Allen all alone in front of the net to defend 3 guys on his own with absolutely *NO* Rangers playing weak side.

  90. When you have 3 (or 4) Dmen that you cannot trust, simply jumbling them seems to me to be self defeating. Go to your GM and tell him you CANNOT WIN with this group.

  91. It was Allen which leads me to the question: Why does Vigneault have J. Moore and C. Allen on a pairing together?

  92. And #19 on ice in the D zone late in a one goal game? Sometimes I think the coach needs some electric shock therapy.
