It’s Go Time! … Devils at Rangers

[polldaddy poll=7626658 align="left"]
Game 30.devils-logo
Devils at Rangers.

The Rangers begin a franchise-record nine-game homestand with back-to-backs against the Devils and Washington.

They will play just 23 of their final 52 games on the road, two of those at Yankee Stadium.

The Rangers are 0-2 vs. the Devils this season. Despite that, the Rangers are 23-11-3 in the regular season vs. New Jersey since 2007-08.

Henrik Lundqvist and Martin Brodeur start in goal. Lundqvist is 24-9-5, 1.69 and five shutouts vs. Brodeur (regular season) in his career.

J.T. Miller, recalled on Friday, and Justin Falk go back into the lineup, replacing Benoit Pouliot and Michael Del Zotto, who both will be prucha’d. Derek Dorsett (wrist injury) remains out.

Ex-Ranger Ryane Clowe (concussion) remains out for the Devils. Shocker.

Don’t forget to vote for the Three Rangers Stars in the poll on the left.

About Author

  1. Jagr played over 20 minutes last night. He will probably slide around with Richie. Can I have this dance for the rest of my life?

  2. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

    OLGA, Baby!!!!!! You said it………..

Hey, on NHL Radio, the Hockey Unfiltered host was talking about the Hank signing. He kind of said Sather had to do it. Then he reasoned (THE HOPEFUL THOUGHT) that a guy Sather’s age, likely, won’t be here at the bad end of the contract, years 5-7. So, as his reasoning went, for Sather, this was an absolute no brainer!!

Man, Todd, from your mouth to the man above’s ears!!!!!!!!!

  3. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Really, all they have is Janssens, maybe Bernier. Zubrus is big, that’s really it, no? Then again, we have no one, so that’s a good thing!!

We are lucky Clowe is still not ready, that would be another.

They are team tougher, but that won’t buy you anything including a cup of java.

  4. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

It is a positive thought that Sather may not be here for the entire 7 years of Hank’s contract.

Coos, you aware of any Sather clone’s walking around?

  5. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Re the bruins from last thread…
Because they are mean tough and nasty and usually get nhl players back in their deals.

  6. Just finished putting up the tree after spending the day putting up lights and decorations. House definitely has a festive (Festivus?) atmosphere, which means I’m ready for some hockey! Which side of this Mickey-Mouse team shows up tonight, and do they finally manage to get over 1 game over .500?

  7. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Bernier….Gelinas, also. What a good rookie he is. Don’t know if Merrill drops the gloves or not.

  8. As his father did, Jimmy the Nut Shot will give Glennie’s job to one of his kids who doesn’t know what hes doing, of course.

  9. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

This is a game we should win. Let’s DO IT!!!!!

    LGR!! LGR!! LGR!!!

(and please stay away from Nash’s head)

  10. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

I wonder if LouLam is pleased with Henrique’s over all play with his new contract. $4m.

  11. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Chico: “Wahl, one thing is fer sure, I believe the Devil’s should be able to get a few more shots on goal tonight.”

  12. Looked to me like McDonuts gave Henrique a serious and continuous going-over before gloves were dropped.

  13. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Carter is a decent fighter, bernier is ok, I agree with carp though, not a lot of guys that can throw well…need to stay away from janssen though.

I think zubrus and dubi fought once also with zubrus getting the decision and I think dubi whacked his head really hard on the ice at the end if I remember correctly

  14. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

He did the took one right in the chops for it. If you are going to do the former better learn how to throw them to avoid the latter!!!

  15. Brodeur is definitely playing tonight? Thought I read somewhere that he got hurt in practice or something.

  16. Yes, Carter is also the guy who lost the faceoff to Bickel :)

I forget who pointed this out, but it’s hilarious when Chico calls Jagr “Yarmer.”

  17. Looked like McD was doing the ghetto chest-bumping thing, forgetting to protect himself while selling wolf tickets.

  18. Do you guys think it’s appropriate that the Rangers’ entrance song is Bono wailing “Oh you look so beautiful tonight?”

  19. ‘And I miss you when you’re not around
I’m getting ready to leave the ground

Oh you look so beautiful tonight…’
    Oh yeah!

  20. Man, you guys are really getting into the Miami lingo tonight …

    “Mickey-Mouse”, “clown”, “circus” …

    Lovin’ it.

  21. Thornton pulled Orpik to the ice and beat him while he was
On the ice. Orpik headed to hospital.

    Thought a for Orpik.

  22. Which Nelson Mandela are we honoring? The mythical hero one or the real life terrorist and racist? :)

  23. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Every team has honored Mandela the past couple days.

  24. So early indications would seem to suggest we’re *not* going to hold the Devils to 11 shots on goal all game, correct?

  25. Did you see Harrold bounce off The Kreider trying to deliver a big hit at the blue line? Looked like Kreider didn’t feel it.

  26. I can hear the rats in Penn Station, and I’m on the 10th floor, Callyman.

Now I have to go talk eric off the bridge.

  27. iWicky – Of course Boston doesn’t just give talented young players away, they do get comparable returns, most of the time. My problem with the Bruins is the age/youth of some talented players they part with. Someone here observed that “Sequin wasn’t working out in Boston,” and I agree with that assessment. However, this begs the bigger question as to why Sequin is happy and working out in Dallas?

Part of it may be better focus, advancing maturing, and a certain “revenge” vs. Boston motivation. But WHY are the Sequin’s and the Kessel’s, in particular, unhappy in Boston? Something is not quite right there, that the Bruins feel compelled to part with some young players who should be part of their contending nucleus for years to come. After all, cohesion and teamwork suffer, the more you turn over a roster.

  28. Carp the only one in Garden who brought his own Walter’s mustard just in case someone starts paying down the mortgage.

  29. trying to pay attention to game
    without laptop
(may not last much longer….about to curse a lot and loudly)

  30. Question 2

was anyone else shocked that Richards
blatantly showed shot as long as he did
    on that 2 on 1?

(just seemed as if he would have pretended he’d pass
a little longer to fool the goalie)

  31. Question 3

are the Rangers the only hockey team in North America that doesn’t realize that you’re unable to score a goal if the puck is shot directly into the goalie’s chest?

  32. Question 4

just as the saying goes that you can probably call holding on every play in the NFL
are you able to call a penalty on just about every shift by the devils?

  33. I can picture TroutWig standing in front of a mirror for 20 minutes pre-game making sure his tie is perfectly wrapped so he looks like a young Richard Gere.. Useless endeavor.

  34. oh coos
i was happy with the result
    but it just surprised me
that he’d give the goalie any extra time to set up.

  35. Henrik has nothing to prove versus fatso, but I have the sneaking suspicion he thinks he does.

  36. Mister, they’d probably chant, but half the crowd never heard of Brodeur before. Most of them are texting anyway.

  37. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

That was a kick. He distinctly moves his skate into the puck.

  38. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_Ridiculous. That was a scoreboard decision plain and simple_

    Ridiculous conspiracy.

  39. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

Carp – just know that if it’s a goal against the Rangers, it’s a “not kicked in”

  40. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_just know that if it’s a goal against the Rangers, it’s a “not kicked in_

    Cut out the conspiracy bs.

  41. If we’re down 2-0 it’s disallowed. Not some anti-Rangers conspiracy or anything stupid like that.

  42. NHL is such a mickey mouse league, right behind the wwe. They wonder why they can’t get more people to follow the sport. Run by hypocrite morons.

  43. If I weren’t such a nerd, I could have seen my alma and the rangers in the same building on the same day.

  44. too many Ranger forwards make passes and stand still, admiring the completed pass instead of jumping hard into a lane or going to the net.

    Happens way too much.

  45. “Once more into the fray—into the last good fight I’ll ever know. Live and die on this day… Live and die on this day…”

  46. When’s the last time the Rangers took advantage of multiple icings by the other team, kept the puck in the o-zone with repeated pressure and scored as the opponents were almost stationary from being so tired? I can’t remember

  47. Staal is slowly but steadily playing himself off this team, but who on earth would replace him?

  48. Avery would have Janssen pulling his nose hairs out by now without ever throwing a check or a punch.

  49. Actually Orpik is a dirty player at times. I’m sure he did something dirty to invoke Thorton to mug him.

  50. No love for Orpic, but you keep pounding someone who is on his back, defenseless, and they bring out a stretcher, you are a thug no matter who the opponent.

  51. Now Orpik knows what it’s like to have his legs kicked out from him when he is not expecting it.

Orpik is pretty good at dishing cheap dirty hits to unsuspecting opponents.

  52. here’s why i lose my mind!!!
    remember a Rangers/devs game…either w/ Torts or Tom
where they shot the puck into the zone in such a way
    that it neutralized brodeur?
    NEVER did that again!!!

same thing as no setting up to shoot more and more
    on his blocker side

  53. Hagelin had two votes before the game started. Guess we have a two-headed amateur clairvoyant in attendance.

  54. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Sorry, folks, that goal by Janssen was a kick.

Last night the Devils were the recipients of a bad call at the end of the game. Sorry, but I believe there is a connection between that bad call and the ‘comeback’ call tonight.

WWE is who the NHL takes after sometimes. Embarrassing. Truly embarrassing.

  55. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Hank is still throwing the shutout.

Man, his play has been good since the signing. He’s a different player. Good for him. Keep it up!!

  56. Wow this PP looks lethal. Crisp passes, right on the tape, decisive shooting. Only downside is Richie on the point

  57. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

looks like they taught Miller to shoot wide in Hartford. Company policy, it appears.

  58. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

There’s nothing Hank could do about that. Jagr sets it up, puck bounces right in front to an open player.

  59. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

No one is saying Hank could do anything. The defensemen could have. Not Hank.

    Nice play by Jagr.

  60. Orpik did nothing dirty. Clean hit on Eriksson. At most eligible for interference but probably not.

  61. Absolutely have to feel for Staal there. Forget about his poor play lately, the last thing he needs is another injury

  62. Correction Manny: Orpik did nothing dirty *tonight*

(The Ericsson hit falls under “legal but simply unnecessary”. No hockey gain from it.)

  63. Gotta score on one of the pp’s — weren’t rangers 0-5 in the last loss against the Derbils?

  64. Rangers defense is horrible, worst it’s been in a long time. There team as a whole is very soft. When sather made that comment in the lundqvist press conference about how Hank was going to put the rangers on his back or something to that affect I knew the rangers were screwed. The only thing left is waiting for the day sather is gone.

  65. Gotta score on one of the pp’s — weren’t rangers 0-5 in the last loss against the Derbils?

  66. Orpik is definitely dirty at times but that wasn’t one of them. If I were the Bruins, I’d have a way bigger problem with the Neal shin/knee to the head of a defenseless guy on the ice.

  67. 4generations 4 cups on

the Rangers look like they s*** their pants. seriously. what the hell is going on here.

  68. As someone with a half-dozen or so minor concussions, I know the Staal feeling there. Might be nothing, but it’s instant “s-word this can’t be happening again”.

  69. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Orr, not surprising. Which team is physically whipping the other? Not surprising at all.

  70. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

See our ‘enforcer’ (Zuccarello) try to check Jagr and bounce off of him???

  71. That was a really horrible shift by Richards all around!

Zucc is the only person trying to hit anyone.

  72. Richie: Gets the puck, throws it at the wall like it’s a hot potato, leads to more pressure in our D-zone. Then he gets the puck again, needs just one more stride so it won’t be an icing, but throws it away again for an icing anyway. Nice.

  73. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Wait until the second half of the season when the going gets tough. This team will crumble when they hit the ice.

  74. Good news for me is there are a lot of new tv shows and some others coming back in January. I will be busy watching the tv shows. I won’t waste my leisure time watching this crap team, that’s for sure.

  75. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Callahan wins the battle along the boards and Richards loses it.

  76. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_The Ericsson hit falls under “legal but simply unnecessary”. No hockey gain from it_

    A display of toughness.

  77. Good evening all! Carp, sorry I missed you…e-mail later.

yikes!!!! Am I imaging it or I am actually hearing fans???

  78. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

well, better win in regulation or OT. The Devils haven’t won a shoot out all year. You know the script, don’t you?

  79. It really does, ORR. Is it flesh clored? Can’t he just use Biron’s mask? That one was awesome.

  80. Miller and Nash flying tonight. Honorable mention to the Kreider.

Rest of the team: not so much

  81. If Kristo and Big Mac were here and getting major ice time, the score would be Rangers 3-1. If Donald Duck were the Rangers G.M. the score would be Rangers 4-0.

  82. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_It’s 2-2, but why does it feel like the rangers are trailing_

    You called that one.

  83. This is a go-nowhere team. Moore won’t be getting a game any time soon, and Lundqvist needed to make that stop. Got to find a way to get a point in these situations.

  84. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

I dunno, awful play by Moore, but maybe Hank stops a big one against Marty every now and then?? Certainly Marty does against us.

  85. Wow Jagr on the ice with 1:37 left protecting a 1 goal lead at age 40 — who would’ve thought?

  86. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Kreider doesn’t play enough two-way hockey, send him to the AHL.

  87. Wow the Rangers should be thanking their lucky stars. Would’ve been one of the worst regulation losses of the season. Way to go The Kreider!

  88. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_That kicked in puck looms large. Free Point in the standings for the Derbils_

  89. I know he’s a gamer and a sacrificer, but that’s a terrible penalty by Cally, costs a point.

  90. Stepan lazy and floating on Derbil’s 3rd goal. Matter of fact, the forwards all game gave the D small help.

  91. Not a lot of interest in playing tonight from the Rangers (probably had a lot of parties and stuff to get to tonight), and the kicked in goal seemed to take Hank out of it. Lucky they got a point.

  92. Richards, except for a large shot if he’s unchecked, is a total and complete liability on the ice.

  93. Trout-Wig: “another great chapter in Rangers-Devils history.”

Trout-Wig: “devils fans well-represented in the garden tonight.”

  94. Fat guy is disgusted on

The only thing worse than this team is this website

Now that cally, Nash, stank hank and our D are so inconsistent if not non existent, Kreider is the only compelling thing to watch

Hang yet another dirty shirt in the 2013-2014 closet

  95. Fat guy is disgusted on

Who in their right mind thinks they look good in those square thick black glasses

Every one of the guys that wears them looks like a racoon

  96. Dave Maloney on radio tells you what’s what, even with a ten second delay. TV guys are atrocious.

  97. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Coos, agreed with your 10:15. That was a nice shot……..but………

  98. Daneyko was and is and always will be a byfuglien jerk.

Wish Leetch was still sitting next to him – Leetch would give him dirty looks or avoid eye contact with him all night on these telecasts. I loved it

  99. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Not so sure Hank made the big save in this game like he needed to. Once again, Fatty did.

  100. Fat guy is disgusted on

Maybe that head shot will turn Staal back into the good Captain Kirk from the bad Captain Kirk

  101. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Hmmmm……. a defenseman that is over 6 feet, 210+, who can control the point on the PP, and has a booming, strong shot.

When have we drafted one of those???????????????????????

  102. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_Not so sure Hank made the big save in this game like he needed to. Once again, Fatty did_

The story of their respective careers to date.

  103. You are what your record says you are:

And in the Rangers case, nothing better than just mediocre.

  104. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

So, the reason Janssen’s goal was allowable?? Because he doesn’t have the talent to know where it’s going?????????

    You’re kidding me. Please.

  105. Wouldn’t Messier have been capable of at least getting this team to .500 around the 30 game mark??

  106. Fat guy is disgusted on

I don’t care if he kicked it in or not but Toronto has to call all of those the same

I guess they do – all against us

  107. I thought the Devils looked tired since they were playing the second game of back to back…

  108. Fat guy is disgusted on

Also big was Staal missing that beautiful miller set up

Was Dominic Moore a minus ten?

  109. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

In 2009, we picked The Kreider with the 19th pick. Can’t complain there. Then we took Ethan Wereck, 2nd round, pick 47.

LouLam took Eric Gelinas, 2nd round, pick 54.

Once again, LouLam, you outsmarted the cigar chomper and others.

  110. Admiral, he said most forwards were not at all helping the D; mentioned Richie throwing the puck to the winds if approached; Steps not backchecking on third NJ goal and on and on; Henrik shaky late. You never hear any of this from SalmonJoe, it’s all bouquets to everyone.

  111. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Daneyko and EJ are BOTH Devils fans. What do you expect from them????

  112. How did Lou not draft Henrik, Callahan, Stepan and Hagelin before we did and after he picked???????

  113. But Fatso didn’t stop Richie on the breakaway or Kreider with 20 seconds left! Those are “big saves” he didn’t make!

  114. Interesting tidbit courtesy of NY Rangers: Over the past thirty years, in games where the Rangers have lead by 6 or more goals, they are 67-2-1.

  115. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Well, predictable loss to a physical north south team. Until this team addresses it’s lack of intimidating physicality, this will apparently be the predictable trend.

  116. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

I’m not so sure Step, with his lack of speed and shooting skills would be a LouLam pick. Nor would tiny Hags.

Lou had 1 pick before 127 (Callahan) in 2004. I think Lou did ok. He took Zajac.

Don’t try to defend Sather, especially before Gord Clark came in.

By the way, with our first round that year, we took Al Montoya, even though we had Hank form 2000. So, did Sather really know what he had, or if he had Lundquist?????

  117. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Orr, he is. But he also is fine with the Derbils. He dislikes the Rangers.

  118. 4 goals allowed on 24 shots.
4 goals allowed on 24 shots.
4 goals allowed on 24 shots.
4 goals allowed on 24 shots.

  119. We not only need forwards who can score, we need BIG forwards who can score AND check in the neutral zone.

  120. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

So, Coos, that’s where I am baffled. Why, then, was Pullout not in the lineup??

  121. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_I hate that I love this team_

Meh, it’s just a game. I don’t get worked up over things I can’t control.

  122. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

    Hope Staal is ok.

But if not, bring back GILROY!! He’s got it all. Size, puck handling, can clear the crease, he’s tough. He da man.

  123. If I’m McD, I ask for either a contract renegotiation, some forwards who can bang and check, or a trade. (s)

  124. #24 had just taken a beating in front of the net, was on the bench with his head down in pain, and probably shouldn’t even have been on the ice late. Perfect situation for a bad penalty.

  125. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

I went to the first pre-season game at the Rock v. Us. What was amazing is the size and skill of the Devil’s prospects. Their hockey IQ was what impressed me most.

The Rangers prospects, sans JT and The Kreider, not so much.

    A real class difference.

Gelinas is quite a quality rookie, IMHO.

  126. I haven’t cared about what Hank had to say since like ’06 when he responded “I was shocked!” to a question about a goal, Fat guy.

  127. The Devils’ hockey IQ is knowing how to cheat and manipulate the game without getting caught and having analysts praising you for it.

NYR just have no hockey IQ.

  128. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

DANEYKO, can you say anything but compliment the DEvils??????????????

  129. I hate my life. I root for this cramp franchise. Only decent thing I was able to enjoy some alone time at game with wife. Not sure she feels same way.

Dinner tickets drinks. Will be working overtime.

  130. Listen, but the King is without dress! …I mean, – undressed by bunch of cack-ham-handed goblins and old, bristly “VE VON” Jagr.

  131. After the typical borderline dirty Orpik hit on Ericcson, Thorton challenged him later in the game and Orpik refused to drop his gloves. If he had manned up and dropped the gloves when Thorton challenged him, he probably wouldn’t have been carted off on a stretcher.

Neal’s knee to Marchand’s head is a typical Neal play as well.

  132. Kreider gets first star here. For what, exactly, other than the scrum goal? Not that he was bad, but first star means, or should mean, a truly exceptional performance.

  133. Right Papa, if someone doesn’t like a check then they should be slew-footed and beaten unconscious.

  134. I believe we are now 0 for 4 on kick in reviews this season.
I guess Staal won’t be getting traded anytime soon.

  135. They should do something about these super hard shoulder pads and elbow pads that are causing so many disabilities. There must be an effective material alternative.

  136. so a top pair Dman has to fight a 4th line scrub? Thorton is going to get 20 games or more for his assault. they should make an example of him, and finish him for the season. that is right up there with what Bertuzzi did.

  137. Orpik is a borderline punk who routinely hits defenseless players at vulnerable moments and then refuses to engage with the tough boys when he is subsequently challenged.

Sorry I don’t feel sorry for him like you apparently do, Mr D. But, I’m sure he’ll be fine and back to his old tricks before you know it.

  138. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

be interesting to see what they get, bulldog. Two of the most protected franchises in hockey.

Shanahahahahahan: “Jeremy, I have to suspend Sean. I just have to”.

    Jacobs: “Only 5. That’s it. Only 5.”

Shanananananahan: “And, Mario, you, too. I have to suspend Neal. Just have to”.

Mario: “well, if Thorny gets 5, I should get 2”.

    Shanaahahahahan: “OK, then we’re settled 2 and 5. “

  139. Comment on youtube…

SliceofBread123: I don’t think he deserved a suspension. I think most fans and players will know that he didn’t mean to KO a guy, especially when he was down on the ice and when he didn’t want to fight. Thornton is one of those guys who will never punch a guy when his opponent is down, or has his arm tied up, for the most part, and it often goes unnoticed. I think he deserves a fine but not a suspension.?

  140. Marty isn't trying.... on

Wow……scary to keep losing to a team like that over last 5 years…but the just show up and win. Kinda embarrassing. They have zero skill but wax us….
