    Missed the charp as always…

Re your #13 of review, that’s what I was saying during that post game thread. Tostitos called us out and only dorsett who weighed 10lbs less from food poisoning responded…embarrassing.

But kudos for dorsett, good on him!

    Great review as always!!

  2. It’s about to get real crowded in here 4Ever. The Brassard Lovers/Haters are about to come out in force.

  3. How was the chat. Did we send brassard packing yet. Still not over how dumb of a pass that was. Another turnover machine we have.

  4. …and Good on you, Manny for saying “Good on you, Coos for saying Good on Everyone”.

  5. Remember *the* time that Tort *benched* Hank for sitting with Justin Bieber *at* a Knicks game?

    Good on him.

  6. Good on us, for saying good on someone else, for saying good on Manny, for saying good on Coos, for saying good on everyone.

  7. *Good* on Gravy for saying *Good* on us, for saying *good* on someone else, for saying *good* on Manny, for saying *good* on Coos, for saying *good* on everyone.

  8. ‘And the angel said unto them, including The Miami Pimp, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.’

  9. And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus Dolan, that all the world should be Transformed and taxed.

  10. We can’t *get* excited for *Benoit* Balls to be potentially out of the lineup because the replacement is *Pyatt*

  11. And *it* was written that *MSG* would rather have *Billy* Joel in concert once a *month* from *now* until the *fans* stop lining up for *tickets* instead of *putting* a quality product on the *ice*

  12. Imagine our joy is we didn’t know a thing about Pyatt and heard that Slats was bringing in a 6’4, 235 lb. wing?

  13. Actually, *coos* I remember that joy when we *signed* Pyatt. I *was* excited to have a *4th* line grinder type *player*

  14. Can’t we already hang Polio/Brass/Pyatt by one noose/one rope…(on Wall of Shame in MSG)once and for all and get it over with?

  15. There’s an ultra-exclusive 200 Club at MSG for celebrities, free drinks, free everything. Billy Joel a centerpiece. Woody Allen, once a mainstay, was banished because he refused when asked by Dolan to do a solid and help him advertise.

  16. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

The people that want to trade brassard amuse me as much as the ones that want to trade Nash for patch.

  17. Wicky – not trading Brassard assumes you feel comfortable qualifying him at $4M. Trade him now while we can get _something_ for him.

  18. Got to love how AV calls out his best players to step it up. When *he* put his best player on the bench last night.

*Carp* could you tell the *rookie* coach to *Step* it up a notch!

  19. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

One of our better offencive players who does play a bit of a physical game and doesn’t disappear during the playoffs…

I’ll keep him over most at this point

In the right deal is move almost anyone.

  20. Brassard’s history of underachieving makes him exactly the type of player I stay away from.

  21. Mazanec edged New York Rangers left wing Chris Kreider (4-9—13 in 15 games), San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl (5-5—10 in 13 games), Los Angeles Kings center Tyler Toffoli (4-5—9 in 13 games), Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon (4-5—9 in 14 games) and Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug (3-6—9 in 15 games) for the honor.

Nice to see *The KREIDER* in the hunt. He needs to win a couple of these if he is going to win the Calder!

  22. Basically, Brassard has Gaborik tendancies in my eyes. When he plays with snarl and grit then I think he’s a better player. When he floats and doesn’t hit he’s really an ineffective player.

  23. Stranger Nation on

Brassard is the problem! We have found the solution, get rid of Brassard, play Richards at center and all will be GREAT!

  24. I would also trade Brassard for Patrice *Bergeron*, Steve *Stamkos* with a broken leg, or Sidney *Crosby’s* lips.

  25. I saw you *Carp*. I watched you get cups of “water” on the bridge. I could see you very clearly (when I had my *glasses* on).

I couldn’t *get* there early because *Mrs.* Manny was very busy at work and wanted a *healthy* dinner. That’s right. I’m blaming my *wife* who was nice enough to go to a *hockey* game with me.

  26. I would trade Brassard *for* Stamkos’ broken leg!

Stranger: The issue, as I see it, with Brassard is that, with the Richards buyout looming (and ostensibly happening this time) Brassard becomes the 2nd line Center going forward and has to be qualified at near $4M. That’s a bunch of money AND responsibility for the *guy* who hasn’t shown, at *any* level, that he can handle it.

  27. people were practically ready to anoint Brassard as the top line center 7 months ago. now he’s a bum that isn’t worth the money.

I’ve always leaned toward the latter

  28. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Manny, you basically described every nhl player with the following statement…
“When he floats and doesn’t hit he’s really an ineffective player.”

I would trade him for patch also.

The thing is, he is 5th in fwd points and 5th in forward hits, he is tied in giveaways with Stepan at 5 in less minutes and with a better faceoff winning percentage.

He seems like a pretty consistent 2 way fwd to me that with better linemates would produce more points…

But I wouldn’t pay him 6 mil per, might not pay him 4 mil per depending on where he slots on a roster.

  29. Brassard just plays to many games where you don’t notice him. Put a finisher on his line, someone to make some plays with or call up Lindburg waiting in the wings.

  30. That’s fair, Wicky. A *balanced* opinion and all. When you start talking about $4M *per* season I start thinking about what *else* is available for *that* kind of money.

  31. Wicky, based on his *salary* this year, and being an *arbitration* eligible *RFA*, I think $4M is the *starting* point.

  32. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I don’t disagree about 4 mil being a starting point. If he is slotted to be our 3rd line center, then no I’m not in for 4 mil plus on him. If he is going to have a linemate or two that can bury the puck and is in the top 6, I’d go for 4 mil per

  33. Fair. I guess Brassard isn’t going to *get* you much in a *trade* so the smart move *might* be to a.) *buyout* Richards; 2.) *Move* Brassard up to the *2nd* line; and d.) Get some *players* around him.

  34. If you think they have *scoring* problems now, wait until Brassard is the *second* line center.

  35. -Hoping- Assuming Richards gets *bought out*, the UFA class drops *significantly* at center after Joe *Thornton*: Stastny, Grabovski, Legwand, Roy.

  36. *Steve* Ott is available also….. 3rd Line Center? He’s good at Face Offs too. *5th* in the NHL I heard from **

  37. Also available for Bottom *6* Center *play* is Andrew Cogliano (über *tough* guy) and *Zenon* Konopka

  38. I’m fine with *Ott*, but he doesn’t help the *offense*. You almost *have* to keep Brassard, based on the UFA’s out there. I’m just going to *hate* overpaying him (although probably to a lesser degree than one of those UFA’s).

  39. problem is that top to bottom as of this moment the Rangers have 5 players who are top 9 forwards you’d build around:

I like Zuccarello but he’s obviously expendable. J.T. Miller is a borderline case at present but worth additional looks. Boyle is a 4th-liner as is Dorsett. Pouliot, Moore and Pyatt are all garbage.

so it’s basically the same problem this team has had every year for the last number of years

  40. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Why would you move Boyle from C? His only discernible skill is winning faceoffs.

  41. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Lloyd, I am in disagreement on Hagelin. He’s an average player. The way those here portray Stepan, he doesn’t sound like somebody a team should build around.

  42. _so it’s basically the same problem this team has had every year for the last number of years_

  43. I think Hagelin is a third-liner but I’d hold onto him, especially since he’s signed through the end of ’15. I don’t know how Stepan is portrayed here, nor do I really care, but he’s as close to a top-6 center as the Rangers have developed in years, he keeps getting better and he’s 23 years old.

  44. *Hagelin* costs barely over $2M. Even as an every game *effective* 3rd line *player* that’s reasonable. I *have* no problem keeping him around and *moving* him up and down the top *9* based on his current *level* of play.

  45. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_I think Hagelin is a third-liner but I’d hold onto him, especially since he’s signed through the end of ‘15. I agree with that assessment of Hagelin and Stepan. Stepan, according to those here, is slow, doesn’t play defense, and unable to score.

  46. *Crucial* update: Now *under* new ownership, *Warren77* has changed the name of it’s [Buffalo] sangwiches from *Sando* to the more colloquial and *contemporary* “Sandwich”

  47. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Oh, he also doesn’t have the all important, irreplaceable toughness.

  48. a lot of people here seemingly haven’t yet noticed John Tortorella no longer coaches the Rangers

  49. you’re naming scrubs to replace scrubs, Manny

ultimately none of those players will make a bit of difference

  50. Hags feels like the kind of guy you package with another player/prospect to upgrade on Hags.

  51. Yea but they are *cheaper* scrubs, Lloyd. We could release some dead weight and get *those* guys up here and clear up some *cap* space to get someone that isn’t *horrible*

  52. Gravy, atleast Pyatt is *slow* enough to not screw up odd man rushes by *repeatedly* going in *offsides*.

  53. Hagelin is definitely the kind of guy you deal if a good offer comes along. Just haven’t seen that offer come along yet.

  54. boxcareddiehospodar on

i would bring up mashinter and miller. trade hagelin,d.moore, zuccs and stephan.
    all the same players.

  55. Omg,. The Doctor. The *offsides* crap with Pouliot is *infuriating* . Seems to *be* his biggest problem is not *knowing* how to play a *controlled* game. He’s either in *way* too high a gear or just *asleep* at the wheel

  56. Haley could make a difference if only in protecting Dorsett. :) He also plays all-out and has learned on-ice discipline.

  57. I guess that’s a fair point. A Mashinter and Haley end up costing the same as 1 Pouliot and also means you could jettison Pyatt but where are their contracts going? not going to be able to trade those guys are you?

  58. I think the reason I hate Pooliot so much is because he looks basically how I look in pickup games. I never really care that much, certainly not enough to risk injuring myself, and my attention span is near zero. But I’ve never gotten paid much to play pickup sports.

  59. That’s my only point with all this *garbage*, Lloyd. They are *cheaper* versions and therefore free up cap space for something that *isn’t* horrible to be added to the 2nd *line*

  60. I bet some team would take on Pyatt’s contract to serve as a 4th line / veterany type.

Manny thinks a lot of teams would take Pooliot.

  61. Benoit Balls Pouliot = Good enough to be on *any* NHL team and bad enough *to* be cut by *any* NHL team.

  62. If Tostitos skated past the Ranger bench saying, as he supposedly did, “who’s going to do something about it?” – Haley would be fighting Dorsett for the opportunity.

  63. if you can find teams to take Moore, Pyatt and Pouliot, and get nothing back but picks, beautiful, but (if you somehow manage to drug some GM so that he’ll agree to a trade) you may well have to take some other deadweight back

  64. They could send both Pouliot and Pyatt to the minors and save about 70% of their cap hit ($1.8M of $2.6M).

  65. I just looked at the Wolfpack roster and there are like 15 guys who either have been up this year or who people make a reasonable enough case for bringing up. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

  66. It’s good for *our* organizational depth and *bad* for our *NHL* depth. I was literally *just* thinking about *that*

    Telepathic *Vibe*

  67. I think Moore, Pouliot, and Pyatt all have enough value to bring back a mid-round pick at the deadline (if you want to hold them that long).

  68. You can save about $900k on a one-way contract by waiving a player, then assigning them to the minors if they aren’t claimed. That’s what happened to Asham and Powe.

  69. Rob in Beantown on

Pyatt is pretty dependable and defensively responsible. He is not expensive either at $1.6M. He does not *offend* my senses nearly as much as Pouliot and I don’t understand lumping them together.

  70. Rob, I think it’s just the pecking order right now. Pouliot, Pyatt, and Moore are probably the most “expendable” players.

  71. if the team is .500 heading into Christmas, is there a major shake up in terms of call ups from Hartford – basically all of the players that Manny mentions coming up for a shot?

  72. Pyatt would be fine on the 4th line with Boyle and Haley/Mashinter. I think Dorsett can handle a 3rd line role with Brassard and Hagelin.

  73. I don’t *care* if any of those players get *claimed* at all. Then we *save* even more *cap* space

  74. Pullout is making a million three on a one year deal and is an UFA and end. He’s blowing his future.

  75. If Richie had even half of Dorsett’s energy and grit, he’d be worth his huge paycheck (almost).

  76. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Lloyd, I am in awe of your knowledge. You are a student of the game. Each of these self-proclaimed boneheads could learn from you or me.

  77. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

    That we do, Lloyd. We are masters of the multiples. (;

  78. _Dorsett wore an ‘A’. Quite an unusual compliment to essentially a 4th line checker._

So what, Drury wore a ‘C’.

  79. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Stop the presses. Dorsett’s ‘A’, energy and toughness makes him irreplaceable.

  80. I like the lines that were in practice today, outside of Kristo needs to be on the 3rd line. Who know maybe he could wake up Brassards line with a few extra goals.

AV’s going to coach a .500 team as long as he plays PullOUT & Gomer Pyatt in the same game. Now if you play both in the same game that’s a recipe for a loss, one of them can play the 4th line with Boyle & Moore.

  81. Dorsett hasn’t *cost* us a game yet. I have *0* issues with him on this team. Yes we could use a McILrath on the Blueline, but that day is down the road.

  82. Brassard needs a finisher!

Kristo is available the games on the 10,12,15, & 18. That way it won’t take away from his full time job as goal scorer / Point leader for the Pack.

If needed the Rangers could pull him up for the 22 & 23.

He’s an hour away. Someone give Sather a phone.

  83. I hoping AV isn’t just giving this lip service.

He needs talent that can score. He *doesn’t* have enough on this team.

  84. Something tells me we will need 2 broken legs before that happens.

Ok. I’m done with my Rant.

  85. If Bickel can’t handle enforcer duties why can’t they make him handle it? Dave Brown was a horrid player that learned to handle the job without hurting his team while actually playing hockey.

  86. So long as we have some Dmen on the ice who can join the play AND get back, and in the absence of a true heavyweight enforcer, people like Ash, Dorsett, Haley, etc. will punish on the forecheck, irritate, and drop the leather when called upon.

  87. _Dorsett hasn’t cost us a game yet. I have 0 issues with him on this team._

Totally. If you’re looking at our team and slotting guys into the “right” spots, he absolutely carries value on the 4th line. New Prust.

  88. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Why would Brassard need to create for his line mates and earn assists? That would imply that goal scoring matters. I learned from Manny that goals don’t matter. After all, toughness and energy win games, not goals.

  89. The situation with Braasard is interesting. His QO has to be $3.9M in irder to retain his rights. He is eligible for both player and team triggered arbitration. If he doesn’t sign his QO and takes them to arbitration, the award will be at least $3.9M so they can still walk away from it ( has to be at least $3.5M). They have time until they decide.

  90. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_Dorsett hasn’t cost us a game yet._

    Talk about logical fallacies.

  91. Kind of interesting, maybe? Hartford forwards shots per game (5+ games, games played in parenthesis) …

    J.T. Miller: 3.0 (6)
    Danny Kristo: 2.3 (19)
    Oscar Lindberg: 2.2 (21)
    Micheal Haley: 1.5 (17)
    Marek Hrivik: 1.4 (19)
    Darroll Powe: 1.4 (18)
    Ryan Bourque: 1.4 (20)
    Shawn O’Donnell: 1.3 (17)
    Brandon Mashinter: 1.3 (11)
    Kyle Jean: 1.3 (15)
    Brodie Dupont: 1.2 (14)
    Andrew Yogan: 0.9 (18)
    Michael St. Croix: 0.9 (8)
    Michael Kantor: 0.5 (13)
    Arron Asham: 0.5 (10)

  92. From the above list of available centers, I’d only be interested in Paul Stastny. He will, most likely, be traded by Colorado before this season ends unless they want to lose him for nothing. Interestingly, he has no NTC/NMC, and because of that, may end up in places he has no desire to stay. Either way, I think Sather should look into that before season ends.

  93. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

They only convinced themselves of that, Lloyd, because it fits with their story of toughness. Much like Brandon Prust likely never cost the Rangers a game, in their view.

  94. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_he will, most likely, be traded by Colorado before this season ends_

A team that is 19-6-0 with a good chance at making the playoffs is likely to trade away a good player? Thank the heavens that you’re not running any hockey teams.

  95. and also, all the Brandon Prust fans came out of the woodwork, shockingly, in the season where he put up careers highs in every offensive category. supposedly none of that stuff matters and they just love him because of his “jam.”

  96. Not biting, Kenneth. Again, your hockey knowledge is close to my dig’s knowledge of medicine because we have a few medical books laying around the house. Duchene, O’Reilly, and MacKinnon are their centers. All younger than him. He is making $6.6M and is an UFA. Yeah, they’ll keep him to not resign and lose for nothing.

Also, change your handle. This one is already getting old and, ummm, stinky.

  97. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

He’s a .85 P/G player in his career, he’s 3rd on the team on points, he averages 19 minutes TOI/G. What team is going to part with the necessary package required to trade for him? Why would the Avalanche just sell a key player for less than he’s worth, if they are a likelihood for the playoffs at the deadline?

  98. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Put your money where your mouth is. $1,000 says Stastny is not traded this season.

  99. Rob in Beantown on

San Jose traded Clowe at the deadline for picks, before he even had any injury history, because he was going to be a UFA. It’s not unheard of.

  100. Yeah, I can’t think of any other team in recent memory that traded a top offensive player while still looking to make the playoffs. Can’t think of a one.

  101. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Clowe is a good player. He’s not Stastny. Are you comparing the two players?

  102. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_while still looking to make the playoffs_

There’s a distinct difference between looking to make the playoffs, and likely to make the playoffs + looking to win a Stanley Cup.

  103. Rob, Stastny is a great player, but with Duchene being clear number 1 center, O’Reilly #2( he is younger than Stastny, is cheaper, and is an RFA), and MacKinnon, who’s playing on a wing for now, but is going to an outstanding #1/2 center- what do you do? You can’t keep them all. The option is to trade O’Reilly instead. I just think that with their financial situation, O’Reilly might be the better long term deal for them. Plus, considering Paul father had a few words to say about Colorado, he maybe counting his days there. I suppose if they feel at deadline they’re true contenders, they might be willing to keep him for a deep run and lose for nothing. Doubt that’ll happen though.

  104. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

_I suppose if they feel at deadline they’re true contenders, they might be willing to keep him for a deep run and lose for nothing. Doubt that’ll happen though._

If you are so confident, put your money where your mouth is.

  105. I was being generally facetious given that we’re Rangers fans and just last year the Rangers traded Gaborik while sitting in a playoff spot.

  107. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

In a hockey sense, a fight=a goal in a way. Some are momentum changers, others like empty netters just pad stats, and some are just pounding a team into the ice even more.

Either way, if a guy can produce twenty of one or the other (or a combination of both) he’d probably be a decent guy to have on your team.

  108. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

A struggling team, a player in the coach’s doghouse.

When you’re prepared to compare apples to apples, let me know.

  109. Wicky- funny how often the momentum would change after Prust’s fights 2 years ago, and how little it changes this year. Prust didn’t win too many, but also he would rarely get beaten up badly. Don’t know why, I think Prust also knew when to fight, if it makes sense.

  110. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Par for the course, Mister D has been rejected. No Play for Mister Gray! (:

  111. Mister D

You are being argumentative for argument’s sake. ilb2001 and Kenneth both have quality points.

  112. Am I crazy to think that trading Del Zotto now is a big mistake unless it is for a cornerstone piece?

His potential and talent far outweigh any quick fix. What is the purpose of trading Del Zotto? Are we missing the final piece? Is this team going to win a round in April? You’d have to be on another planet to think that.

    1) We are not going to get a D-man has a scored 10 goals in a season.

    2) We are not going to get a legit PP QB.

    3) Nobody is going to give us a 20 goal scorer.

    4) Any trade for a decent NHL player is going to involve a Ranger pick going the other way

    5) One of a very few deals that would make sense for NYR is to package Del Zotto for Stastny in kind of a sign & trade before the Richards buyout…

By the way, put Del Zotto on a team with Stamkos or Tavares or Crosby and he would put up bigger numbers….

  113. Because you don’t like him. Like you didn’t like the ratface coach, right? Anybody is better, right?

  114. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

You’re not crazy at all. That is a very wise view, NYR_FAN. Selling him for spare parts would be a mistake.

  115. let’s be clear: you trade Del Zotto while some GM is still under the mistaken assumption (as you are) that he’s going to be some future star and will overpay for him. once that period has expired and the full reality of Michael Del Zotto’s low ceiling is obvious to everybody, then, he’s worthless.

  116. OK. That’s at least more reasonable. Sounded before more like you were leaning towards the idea of trading him just for the sake of trading him.

  117. isles were up 2-0 on Pens. then 2-1. Then had a penalty shot to go up by two stopped by MAF. Now Crosby PPG, 2-2 in the third.

  118. Put Del Zotto on Crosby’s line and what will happen is Crosby’s +/- explodes (to the right.)

  119. Evander Kane demanded Bobby Hull’s retired #9 and got it. If he came here, Adam Graves is the type of guy who would say, ‘take it.’ I don’t want him here for that reason. But, I’m a stickler for tradition.

  120. Multiple screens? Maybe Lloyd just has this incredible castle dungeon like setup with hundreds of computers. He’s an evil genius that can keep hundreds of conversations and characters alive at once.

    I commend him.

  121. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

I must say, Ilb, you can be my GM anytime. Trading Stastny, given what werd is via his dad’s way too outspoken comments, his salary, and their less costly talent level up the middle, it makes good sense. If Colorado feels they can comfortably lose him, and I agree they can, they could create a team that could be competing deep into the PO’s for some time. Just like us (S).

I’m not saying we pick him up, but I think for them, its brilliant.

ILb for GM of the year!! Extend ILb!!!

  122. Papa, the thanksgiving episode of the league with Sarah Silverman, hysterical. You’ll love it, book it.

    Vibin’, my man. Vibin’!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep on wondering when the chants begin at MSG. Then again, they’d be pretty much the ONLY chants there…….the new, the transformed, the quiet and confused Madison Square Garden….

  125. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Matty, they’re not trading him just for the sake of trading him. They’re not playing for next season, they’re playing for a Stanley Cup this season. The only circumstance in which they trade Stastny is if they feel it upgrades their current roster for this season. If it happens to upgrade future seasons, better for them, but their primary focus is trying to win this season.

Interesting how some of the league’s best GM’s build from goalie out, from center out.

Sather signed Richards and said, “I’m good for years”. Happy Bobby Holik to you, New York!!!

  127. LOL Billy Joel says he’s proud to a part of the “Newly Transformed MSG.” Coincidence he uses that word. Right.

  128. The loudest chant in the Garden this year will be from the suits in the lower level: “I got MY bonus, how you doin’?”

  129. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Goes without saying, Kenneth. Yet, the financial realities of being a GM warrant being smart financially under cap. He could fetch some serious talent and they could get out of the contract. They have 3 cheaper excellent centers without him.

He’s better than anything we have and HE’s expendable in Colorado.

I’m not guaranteeing. But I did read his Dads comments, too. It’s possible and it’s logical if they decide to do it, of course, pending the return

  130. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Any chant that gets started, the few that do, at the newly transformed MSG, are quickly put to rest by the overly loud and constant fake noise or announcer shuffling his papers, finding something, anything to say on his overly loud mike. I am convince, given his timing, he is there so suppress any chants.

  131. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

By using that logic, the Rangers should trade Girardi rather than let him walk for nothing. The Rangers are farther from contention than the Avs and have no reasonable chance at winning the Stanley Cup. Rather than letting him walk for nothing, they should trade him now and build for the future.

They already have Staal and McDonagh. They could even sign Girardi in the offseason, and have gotten pieces to help with the future.

  132. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

It’ll be interesting to see what his next contract is, Stastny, that is.

  133. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

Matty, I respect that position. Another reality is that the Avs have been rebuilding for quite some time, and if they’re going to make a serious Cup run, then they should want to have a depth of quality.

How can anyone claim that a player that’s 3rd on the team in points is expendable while also claiming that players like Prust and Boyle are not expendable?

  134. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Kenneth, I would not be opposed to that at all. Look, #5 is a good Ranger and he had one all-star season. In that season, I believe the coach’s system helped him look better than he is. He is a non-drafter player. He ain’t no thoroughbred.

Sather, once he decided that with Torts here, he wasn’t going to re-sign Gabby, traded him (of course, then he fires Torts and could have kept Gabby, but that’s another story). It was one of the few moves that he has made that made sense so he got some value for an asset he wasn’t going to keep.

As I have said before, make a decision, either way. But don’t wait till the deadline and potentially lose the player and not get any value.

  135. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

    1. Colorado has ample replacements
    2. Colorado has cheaper replacements
    3. Colorado can use assets they get to build for now and the future, depending upon what the market is for the guy

    4. No one said Prust and Boyle are not expendable. They are role players. Get rid of them, but replace them with similar quality. The ‘roles’ that these two 4th liners perform for a team are secondary, but that’s not to say that it’s not important to round out your team. Aside from PK, their roles are different, but very important to team balance.

Take a look at the roster of the ’94 team. Brian Noonan rarely scored. But was he important to the team? Hell, yea! You could say that about Matteau , Gilbert, Kocur, Kypreos. These are musts to balance out a team.

    I agree entirely.

I agree entirely. Since Gabby had fallen into the doghouse of Torts, is a free agent following this season, and the Rangers were a team going nowhere, I too thought a trade was a wise move. The return is not what I’d hoped for. Then, the firing of Torts was a silly follow up to the trade of Gabby. It showed no foresight.

  137. I still think Sather and Torts had a sub rosa, never to be revealed shouting match, resulting in his ouster. Purely psychic vision.

  138. Any chance we trade for Gabby and then resign him? I was thinking we could send Brassard, Moore and Dorstep.

  139. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

    Matty @11:22:

I agree with most of what you stated. I don’t think it’s adequate to go with cheaper, ample replacements *if* the Avs are serious Stanley Cup contenders, unless they manage to upgrade their current roster. Get a better goaltender, for example. I don’t think Varlamov can be trusted.

  140. AV cracks me up with his couched praise, as in when someone has an excellent game, he says things like, ‘He was our best player out there tonight, but we’re going to need him to get better,” or “He MIGHT be one of our better players and we need him to keep improving.”

  141. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Over the course of a regular season, the cream, in general, rises to the top. Are there exceptions? Sure. Kings, a couple of years ago. Boston almost every year in the regular season.

I think you’ll see Colorado, while a great start is not quite there yet. Of course, a GM like Sather would be making the 3 draft pick trade for an aging, but good player at deadline, being foolish to think they can make a serious run. But I’m not thinking Sherman/Sakic are about to be stupid. If there’s value, they’ll trade him.

He is a diminishing asset the closer to the deadline they get.

  142. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

If they were intent upon trading him as ilb2001 suggests they are, they should have traded him in the offseason. The return is much higher for a full season of Stastny than a few months.

  143. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Here’s a really ‘funny’ article by Brooksie.

There’s a nice picture at the top that shows Richie Rocket, captioned “Brad Richards has 2 goals in the last 20 games”.

Does this come as a surprise to anyone? YES!! Sather!! “He has been training hard during the off-season, he will be much better this year”.

Glen, is that measured in goals, points, turnovers, wasted power play point time, blind passes to the opposition? What, you tell me what????

  144. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

No truer words ever said, Kenneth.

Same could be said for our moronic Gm. Cally, Girardi, Hank. If anyone of them isn’t going to be signed, it should have already been determined and they should have been traded. Waiting till FA, as he did with Prust and others, is simply inexcusable with these 3.

  145. Only a GM who thinks he is one piece away from a cup would even entertain serious dealing for an *unsigned Stastny right now who might bolt.

  146. Re: Richie – was it Dolan, was it Sather, was it Torts, or was it all three? Who is the blind man? Was Sather afraid to ask Dolan for all those millions to be thrown to the winds after he chose to bring Richie here?

  147. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

One last valid point about Stastny, the only teams that would trade for him are teams attempting to qualify for the postseason or teams trying to compete for the Stanley Cup.

In the case of trying to qualify for the postseason, are those teams going to sacrifice draft picks and prospects just for the chance to get to the postseason? Probably not.

The Avs shouldn’t be trading with Western Conference foes to help their playoff or Stanley Cup chances, leaving only Eastern Conference teams as trade partners. That lessens the likelihood of a reasonable return for Stastny.

  148. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

Richards is a -2. He plays 19 minutes a game, of which 6 or 7 or so are on the PP. Rarely plays against the oppositions top line. Is definitely shooting more than last year, and overall has a better shot. But, you could argue 4 of his 7 goals were lucky as heck.

He continues to be a total liability on defense.

Wonder what happens when AV starts benching him, too. Will it be Tort’s fault, too?

All ya gotta do is watch. He is a load. A waste. He must be killing team morale. Who wants to play on his line?

  149. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

    Matty, we’re vibing tonight!

_Only a GM who thinks he is one piece away from a cup would even entertain serious dealing for an *unsigned Stastny right now who might bolt._

    You, sir, are correct.

  150. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

I think there still could be a handful of buyers for him, esp. if there’s a real promise of a long term deal.

It will be interesting. I agree with ILb, there’s a chance it could happen.

  151. Matty, Richards, ‘improved’ as he might be, checks no one, no one even bothers to check him. That, effectively, lets the opposition double team anyone on his line who is hot or dangerous. Who would want to be on his line?

  152. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

    Coos, lol!!

Seriously, though, to whomever said it…… about Igninla to Pittsburgh at last year’s deadline? And Igninla’s old. Stastny’s not. He’d get something. Not full value, but something.

  153. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

No one, Coos. No one. Cally looks pissed and disinterested when he is. The only match for Richards is Chicken Poulet. Let then rot together.

  154. He might like NY, and if there are REAL possibilities of signing him longish, we should entertain it.

  155. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

I don’t have inside knowledge on this, but knowing Sather’s huge ego, I would think that he HAD to, in his mind, keep Richards this one year. I would believe it was him, and not Dolan telling him he must.

The reason? All the upfront money would have made a buy out look even more foolish this year. Keeping him one year more dilutes the wasted upfront dollars a little. Makes it less obvious what an imbecilic signing it was.

He has had a ton, but this may be his worst. Holik? Drury? Gomez? Kaspar? Brashear? Let’s not go down memory lane, shall we.

Richards looks a little less bad holding him this year, to save Sather’s face. But, he gets injured or really continues to play like this and it’ll look even more stupid.

  156. The most dangerous job on the team is to be Richie’s on-ice replacement who has to hop up and down on the bench waiting for him to glide 60 feet to the bench while the opposition is developing a 3 on 2 the other way.

  157. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

I don’t look too highly upon the centers we have in our organization. Step, as a non-holdout is a number 2, likely. What else to we have??????

    Richards? A 3 or 4 (for $6M per)
    Brassard? A 3?? At best (for $4M)

    Boyle? A 4.

I mean, really. Who is scouting this talent? Oh, that’s right………

  158. Matty"WeShouldWearPinkPanties!!"Boy on

I liked his hat trick at the end of last year in Carolina. Never have 3 uglier and luckier goals been scored on one night, including the kick in by Cam Ward’s replacement. Priceless!!

But, to the Canadian press he is still an icon.

  159. Richie’s CAP hit is $6,666,000.00. His actual salary last season was $12 million. This year, it’s $9 million. Great Googamooga!

  160. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

I know you posted that, cooscoos. I was giving you credit, your post was in agreement with my subsequent post.

Iginla being traded to the Pens was different. The Flames are a lifeless organization and they only received a couple prospects and a pick.

The Avs may have the ability to contend for the Cup, and in that case, there won’t be any urgency to trade him away for only prospects and picks.

  161. I think when you truly have the Cup in sight, you use all your bullets and worry about next season next season. Right

  162. Do you, if you had to guess, see this team as moving toward being a contender or getting closer to a span of a few years as one of the bottom 5 teams? I know there’s 20 places between the bottom and top five, but I get the feeling that they could be a really good team in the next few years depending on 4 or 5 if’s. In the event that universe conspires against the Rangers, they could get a couple of years drafting in the top 3. When the sons of Christian Backman, Pavel Brendal and Jamie Lundmark be of draft age?

Happy to sign the King long term, but all the more important to keep BRich healthy at year’s end!

Here’s hoping Lindberg is ready for the next step. Unless we trade ‘el Zotto for a Center (Ott)

  178. I realize the rangers organization was stuck between a rock and a hard place but making your 31 year old goaltender the highest paid on the team and in the league is not a winning formula for success towards winning a cup. I don’t like it but it is what it is.
