It’s Go Time! … Devils at Rangers

Game 18.devils
Devils at Rangers.

Change in plans: We will do a Live Chat Thursday at noon, not Wednesday. Be there.

Ya boys have won three in a row and six of seven. The Devils are 2-0-1 in their last three and 4-2-2 in eight.

It’ll be Henrik Lundqvist vs. Martin Brodeur, like the old days, after Cory Schneider shut out the Rangers 4-0 in the prior meeting this season, in Newark. In 37 previous regular-season head-to-head matches with Brodeur, Lundqvist is 24-8-5, 1.65, .934 and five shutouts.

Rick Nash (concussion) skated at the optional morning skate, and Alain Vigneault announced this evening that he will practice with the team Wednesday. There remains no return date set. Dominic Moore (oblique) is also getting close to return. No update on Taylor Pyatt (concussion). Justin Falk is expected to be prucha’d.

Ryane Clowe and Patrik Elias remain out for the Devils.

  1. Marty’s going to be a very welcome addition to MSG games! Any chance he’ll take a spot on Hockey Night Live?

  2. Just a reminder: If anyone can top the last game and lost to the Devils 5-0, it’s these no-talents.

As per usual, The Kreider will be the best player on an otherwise forgettable squad that will play as if it belongs in the EHL.

Have a good evening watching garbage, gentlemen.

THE Kreider will score tonight. And McMonster will knock a Devils player into the Ranger bench.

  8. iDoodie Machetto on

Have to admit, transformation looks good. Good lighting. Clean look. The scoreboard is ridiculous. I’m sure the corridor traffic issues will remain, but I’m impressed with how it came out.

Will inspect the bridges during 1st intermission.

  9. iDoodie Machetto on

Guy behind me is already three sheets to the wind.

“it took me thirty years to learn this place!”

I’ve heard that about a dozen times already. I want to tell him, wow, you’re that stupid that it took you 30 years to figure this place out?

  10. >>…When your son buys you a drink because he was late.

I’d take the drink and still grown him. Time is time, Son!

  11. Matty"We'veBeenSatherized"Boy on

When the Devils pressure the point, the Rangers cough it up. When the Rangers pressure the point, the Devils move it down low. I like what the Devils do.

  12. Gift of GAB-orik says KREID-or-Die! on

Rinkside microphones caught the convo between Jagr and Richards.

Jagr- “Why did you go down so easy?”
Richards- “I have to take care of my body. When i’m your age, the Rangers will still be paying me!”

  13. Gift of GAB-orik says KREID-or-Die! on

I’m always distracted by the transient vortex that is Trout-wig’s bottom row of teeth.

  14. Gift of GAB-orik says KREID-or-Die! on

Anyone at the game spot the area on the bridges to deposit Chase’s royalty checks?

  15. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

No score , ok ok we’ll be just fine.

Need to get out the pepper!!!

  16. Biron looks good. Nice addition to the studio team in the looks department. Especially next to Trautwig.

  17. Listening in on ESPN.com. I don’t see how Poulliot stays in the lineup with Nash and D. Moore returning.

  18. Is it mean to keep the lights off the fans behind Al & Marty? I guess they need to up the prices on those tix. I bet they did that cuz they caught Eddie x 3 vomiting on camera.

  19. I agree, Romeo. But a lot of times the coach takes the easy way out, and it’s way easier to take out Mashinter and send him down.

  20. Carp, nice job. With all the friggin commercials ESPN radio play they certainly could afford a nice gift for between period guests.

  21. I don’t see how D. Moore makes this lineup better.

Del Zaster has been nice and physical tonight. Heck of a
    Slap shot too.

  22. Carp, could you please remind Sam and Joe that they’re doing a Rangers broadcast, not the Devils’? They should leave the Bro-door praises to Chico Resch.

  23. I remember last season when many of us claimed that Tort’s style was not working and to adopt a faster, less defensive-minded game and many on this blog were arguing that we don’t have the skilled personnel to play (or pass) that type of game…..and that we would lose each game 6-4 because we couldn’t afford to allow Lundqvist to absorb a bit more heat.

  24. I was just about to complain about this team being awful at 4-on-4 hockey.

Great effort. Even when we oddly have two Centers on the ice.

  25. I have to say. Regardless of the wins and anything else. I am absolutely ecstatic that the rangers are passing like pros. Keep it up.

  26. Yes, I know, My point is that many believed that this team didn’t have the ability to play this type of game and the personnel is essentially unchanged. The skill was always there and that my suggestion last season when we were doing terribly was to possibly change styles of play and many disagreed that it was impossible for that team to play an uptempo game. I never suggested to stop playing D.

  27. I wouldn’t say this squad is playing that offensive, wide open type system that people thought. They are getting there. But defense is still a focus.

  28. 1994, not disagreeing with you, but let’s face it, Kreider, Hagelin, Zuccarello, Richards have all been much better than they were last season. Chicken and egg?

  29. No one cares that that puck shouldn’t been out of the zone in the first place? Anyone? Lloyd?

  30. @NHLDevilsPR: Fourth-line wingers Ryan Carter & Cam Janssen have combined for 4g-2a-6pts in 4 games since Janssen’s recall from @AlbanyDevils. #NJDevils

  31. I can’t stand this Guy! Gravy bury him on the WBM!!!

Pullout getting his frequent flyer points…… ship him to the Flyers!!!!

  32. Rangers are offensively challenged and have been since Glen Sather took over (well, before that, but Sather was hired to lead the Rangers to the promised land).

  33. Pretty sure Pouliot just moved into T-16 for minor penalties. I might do that per minute or per 40 if I get angrier.

  34. ThisYearsModel on

Our guys are taking a beating in front of fatso. It appears everything is permitted, including crosschecking to the ribs on Stepan.

  35. I don’t care what trade it is, as long as Pullout is a part of it.

Florida is going to be selling quick.
    Maybe a package for Yak!

  36. “Scott Gomez has been traded from the Florida Panthers to the New York Rangers …”

    “WHAT???”

    “for Ryan McDonagh …”

    “NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!”

    “… and Benoit Pouliot.”

“Oh. I can see Sather’s side.”

  37. No effort in Nashville Carp, that’s what get you ousted. Agreed would be a mistake like Ruff, Philly who cares.

  38. Remember when the fired a coach with cancer, that just sums up the low rent Bobby Clarke n scum owners

  39. I yelled. I think that’s the first time this season I inappropriately yelled. And someone called Girardi before the game. Props to someone.

  40. duckbill platypus on

For the love of egg laying mammals everywhere… (and the great Latona) LET’S GO RANGERS!!!

  41. Didn’t someone have a *bold* prediction that *Girardi* would score his *first* goal of the *season* tonight!?

  42. This is a pretty big game. Next 3 games:

    Montreal House of Horror
    LA Kings
    Boston Bruins

    Let’s get this one boys!

  43. Stranger Nation on

    Mister D
Anyone who has more issues with Boyle than Pouliot deserves to be punched in the genitals.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Exactly

  44. I love McD as much as anyone, but we could easily point the last two at him. We won’t, because we don’t, but we could.

  45. Standing around I. Front of the net or sliding around…..difference is that terrible second goal gifted wrapped

  46. In *Girardi’s* defense, he made some good blocks *and* took away some lanes *with* his sliding thing.

    *puck* luck

  47. We need some real offensive players…good effort, need some skill. Btw what is with these linesman?

  48. Alright, lets make stupid idiot Ryan Carter pay for putting the puck into the bench like a stupid idiot.

  49. Game made me sick from the very start…Devil’s played hard and got lucky. Tough to beat. Game over.

  50. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

    Tough loss.

I admire the Hall of Fame Marty Brodeur. Congrats to him on the well-deserved win.

  51. “In Girardi’s defense, he made some good blocks and took away some lanes with his sliding thing. ”

Giradi laying on the ice for two goals against, and part of the reason the crease wasn’t cleared on the second one was because of just that.

  52. ThisYearsModel on

Terrible loss to a terrible team. This one is on Henrik with that shockingly bad second goal. hate it when we urinate points away like this.

  53. Devils* anyway, we haven’t been out of one in a while. Wait til Nash gets back. We will be legit.

  54. ThisYearsModel on

Struggled to beat the pathetic Panthers, then lose to the equally pathetic Devils. Somebody put out an APB for Derik Brassard. He looks less like a Ranger and more like a Blue Jacket every game.

  55. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

As I have said all along, we will lose the majority of our games agains big physical mean teams and in the playoffs unless we get some grit and toughness on our blueline and size and toughness in our forwards.

We need guys that play with malicious intent in the blue paint at both ends!!

  56. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

    I was definitely being sarcastic.

    How could I admire a sister-in-law effer?

    I like you too Latona.

  57. Za'rat "The Other Guy's Greed" Jones on

I can break it down in a small way: UN-FREAKIN-ACCEPTA-FREAKIN-BULL!!!!!

I will not, and never will accept this type of result against NJ.

As a fan, I will now speak with my checkbook. I will refrain from any purchases of any Ranger papaphernelia for 10 days. As a matter of fact, I will walk past the hot dog stand at MSG and not buy a hot dog because he is in front of this arena. I will walk to the next corner.

Fans! We must speak up with our checkbook!

    I EMPLORE YOU!

  58. Had a nice streak going, afraid we are heading for another one in the other direction. We need offensive players. Got some speed but we need a natural scorer. Calling Step maybe? AV has got them playing a nice quick game but we got to be perfect on D most nights and tonight we weren’t.

  59. Kenneth at clinchers of '89Flames '94Rangers '96Avs on

After he came back from his injury, Hank has been terrific. Cut the guy some slack.

  60. RangerSwedegian on

Can’t be easy playing D with Girardi, he suddenly pops up on your side mostly sliding on his belly and you have to adjust and try to reach the guy standing alone in front of goal…. Give McD the Norris just for putting up with it!

  61. Devils PK does deserve some credit, but Rangers need to be better 5 on 5. Let’s see if Nash helps that.

  62. 5-0 flyers fish sticks win, debbies win, caps win. We give one away…way too many nights like this being a Ranger fan

  63. ThisYearsModel on

Look at the bright side…..if Henrik keeps playing like this, the Rangers will save a lot of money. Let me be the first to say….go with Talbot in Montreal. I have no desire to watch Henrik melt down again in the Bell Centre.

  64. You know who I would trade? Everyone. I wouldn’t have 3 hours ago, but right now I’d trade everyone. For nothing.

  65. @RothmanHockey: Tortorella didn’t really say it well, but he wasn’t wrong. Carl Hagelin is not very good on the power play. #Rangers

  66. Dorsett looks like a guy at a bar that’s smaller than you but you know would beat you in a fight. Crazy eyes.

  67. Not a whine, but Zebras allowed repeated MZA muggings and numerous interference indiscretions in front of their net.

  68. Wht exactly are MAAASSSSSHinter and Miller on the squad? They need to be Wolfpacking their bags tonight.

  69. I *thought* JT Miller looked *good* in the few minutes he was *allowed* on the ice.

But if *we* are going to keep *someone* on the roster for fisticuffs I would *prefer* that we bring up The One *and* only Stu *Bickel*

  70. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

It’s sad that p4p played with the most malicious intent in either crease for us tonight

  71. Stranger Nation on

Refs let peewees get manhandled in front
    Step Crosschecked by Greene
    Hags Crosscheck by Zidlicki

If Step is going to play with the big boys he has to complete some cycles of Andro – been getting knocked around this season like a bowling pin

  72. At least we have the ultimate *pest* in the Hobbit *Wizard*

You guys *remember* when we had access *to* Wizard *font* ?

  73. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Hard to believe since ’09 Norris Stralman has been on 3 teams and cut from the vaunted devils blueline!

  74. Matty"We'veBeenSatherized"Boy on

Allain Vanilla stepping over the line saying the second goal was a ‘routine save’.

Sounding like he and Torts talked.

  75. His ability to be *completely* flat footed around the *blue* line (in *either* zone) and then get a *total* brain freeze about whether to *play* the man or the *puck* and then end up a few *strides* behind because of said *brain* freeze is really, *really* unparalleled.

  76. Stranger Nation on

John Moore had his worst game in a long time. Debbies make you bring it the whole length of ice and put pressure on D.
His partner had his usual brain fart of a game
