Ticket contest: Predict the score of tonight’s game for a chance to win two tickets

Our gracious and generous donor has given us a pair of tickets to give away, so we’ll have another contest today, from now until “It’s Go Time!” is posted around 7 p.m. The winner will get two tickets to the Sunday, Nov. 10 game against Florida at Madison Square Garden.

So let’s review the rules, shall we? (answer: yes).

1) This is the easy part. You pick the score, then a bunch of tiebreakers: game-winning goal, Rangers shots, Ducks. Your entry should look like this (with different numbers and names): Rangers 17, Ducks 1. GWG: Avery. Rangers shots: 18. Ducks shots: 44.

This is new!!!!: Don’t use NYR or Blueshirts or Ana or Anaheim or Daffys or Quackers or Donalds or anything other than Rangers and Ducks when you make your pick. Don’t use abbreviations, nicknames, colons, dashes or semicolons or any other punctuation between the team name and the score. Just keep it very, very simple and do it exactly like this:

Rangers 17, Ducks 1.

If there is anything other than the name of the team then a space then the score, as shown here, you may be disqualified. Then add your tiebreakers.

It just makes it much easier for me to scroll through all the entries that way. Thank you.

2) The score of the game must be exact. Not closest. Not margin of victory. You must have the exact score to win or to move on to the tiebreakers, if needed. Note that the game-winning goal is the goal that provides the margin of victory, whether it be the second goal in a 17-1 game, or an overtime or (God forbid) winning shootout goal.

The Rangers’ shots tiebreaker shall go to the closest prediction without going over. If contestants are still tied, the Ducks shots tiebreaker shall be used, and also will go to the closest prediction without going over. If all remaining contestants are over the number of Ducks shots, the contestant closest to the correct total wins.

Finally, if still somehow tied—or if nobody picks the exact final score—I will either give the tickets to Sally again or flip a coin at Blog HQ or host a do-over later this week.

3) The most important rules regarding entry into the contest: DO NOT EVEN DREAM ABOUT ENTERING MORE THAN ONCE. This is also new!!!! You MUST have a legitimate, working e-mail address in your comment header … you know, when you enter your screen name, etc. before the first time you comment. I will check for e-mail addresses and IP addresses from any entrant whose screen name I do not recognize. Multiple entrants will be disqualified. Capisce?

Only entries in this thread will count. In other words, don’t put your predictions in any other thread.

4) Don’t get me aggravated with dumb questions or details.

5) *-The judge’s decision on all issues will be final. (*-I am the judge; though I may be appointing a sub-judge for this contest).

Good luck, and have fun.

See youse tonight.

About Author

  1. Re-post:
AV thought Miller struggled defensively last game (he was demoted to fourth line). Miller blew off reporters at the skate.

    then this:

What does Vigneault remember about Ducks’ 6-0 victory over NYR on 10/10? “That it was 6-0 w/6:00 left and they put top [PP] unit on the ice”

  2. So how can the NHL create some sort of threshold in which Emery is suspended 10 games for that asinine assault that he laid upon Holtby without effecting someone’s ability to get involved with Patrick Kaleta after he boards someone’s teammate and then refuses to fight.

Definitely in a tough spot there.

It’s a really tough spot because if Holtby can defend himself AT ALL, and that includes completely hugging Emery and falling to the ice so the Refs step in, that whole situation looks much different.

But Emery assaulted a completely unwilling combatant and then pounded on him long after he gave up. That has to be suspendable, right?

  3. Stranger Nation on

Miller is a hot head who has been ‘offensively challenged’ at this level. 1 Assist and 11 shots in 9 games is not a lot of production.
Bring up Bill Haley to rock around the clock!

  4. “Grow up” is if he went off on a tangent, he just didn’t talk. I’m ok with that, especially since I bet he knows this is more likely an age/experience decision than a merit decision.

  5. Any word on the Rangers signing Joel Lundqvist to a matching deal with Hank a la the Sedin – Sisters- Twins?

I would assume that’s what is holding up the negotiations.

  6. I was hoping Emery would get a 10 game suspension.

Just imagine if he caused a career ending concussion, wich one of those blows to the back of the skull.

  7. I’m sure it’s really surprising to some of you that I think Emery should get a suspension for that. But it’s very embarrassing to the NHL and if the players aren’t going to respect each other then fighting will eventually get banned entirely.

  8. Miller needs to put up some points or he is always going to be the bubble boy.

Kristo will out score him if he gets a chance.

  9. Rob in Beantown on

My reasoning for that is hockey fights are usually controlled and happen between two mutually consenting fighters as part of the game. What Emery did looked more like an assault than a hockey fight

  10. Manny – I agree. But what about the Ref? Holy shishkabob.

Let’s stop someone from coming in and breaking it up.

That guy needs to go! Worst Ref I’ve seen in a LONG time.

  11. I won’t go that far, Rob, but, I will say that if Holtby could defend himself that does not look nearly as bad. Emery should be suspended and Holtby should have to take mandatory Self Defense courses.

Sioux: In defense of the ref, there was a line brawl so there are 4 zebras on the ice and 6 fights. I’m sure he was trying to watch a few things at once.

  12. Here’s our shots per 60 so far …

    Rick Nash – 13.8
    Brad Richards – 10.6
    Brian Boyle – 10.2
    Chris Kreider – 9.7
    Ryan Callahan – 9.6
    Derek Stepan – 8.5
    Derek Dorsett – 8.1
    Carl Hagelin – 7.9
    Benoit Pouliot – 7.4
    John Moore – 7.3
    Mats Zuccarello – 6.2
    Derick Brassard – 6.1
    J.T. Miller – 6.0
    Taylor Pyatt – 5.7
    Michael Del Zotto – 5.4
    Dominic Moore – 5.1
    Anton Stralman – 4.3
    Jesper Fast – 4.3
    Justin Falk – 4.1
    Marc Staal – 3.4
    Ryan McDonagh – 2.9
    Dan Girardi – 2.8
    Arron Asham – 2.0

… was curious to see where Miller stood and came away thinking my boy D-Brass is going to be even more awesome when he starts shooting the damn puck.

  13. He was right away, so I’ll give him that. But if you watch the replay he holds up his hand to stop someone from skating in and stopping it. Then watches Emery throw 4-5 sledgehammers to the back of his Holtby’s skull when he was down. The Ref should have stopped it Right there – and he didn’t.

  14. Rob in Beantown on

Boyle is surprisingly high on that list. Just think if he was just a little bit better at finishing. But still I think Boyle has looked really good this season so far and the goals have to come eventually. Even if they don’t, you know when he is on the ice, in a good way

  15. Holtby (ugly) has no reason to learn to defend hiimself from a guy who took boxing lessons. He’s a goalie.

NHL should just allow for supplemental discipline inside fighting the same as they do with hits. Its not illegal to check; you can get suspended for a check … just do the same. This incident, Scott’s attack on Kessel, easy calls.

  16. _The Ref should have stopped it Right there – and he didn’t._

Better than not stopping it, he stopped stopping it. Terrible work.

  17. Speaking of advanced stats, someone should chart complexity of meal and time served at my house against whether or not its a game night.

  18. Carp:

“I don’t either, Mister D. But grow up kid. going to be tougher days than this.”

I think there are two ways to interpret it:

    1) Miller needs to bite the bullet and talk to the media, give the “company answer”.

    2) Shows that he cares- and I like a little bit of that fire.

Any ideas as to what kind of dirt Pyatt has on AV?! Incriminating pictures for example…

  19. Been in and out ilb. Been lurking for a little while. I must say…it felt weird posting again! Hope everyone has been well here!

I hope I have remained in the top 2 of Carp’s favorite Noah Gold’s!

  20. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I also probably would have sat pyatt instead of miller.

Wasn’t it during the baby buffaloes game that they were talking about miller being a hot head and a bit of a discipline problem in the US developmental program?

    I like the passion!

  21. Chris, yeah, AV (and just about every other coach) seems to have this idiotic idea that there is more to hockey than just scoring goals … that some guys play well even if they don’t score, and conversely, just because somebody scores doesn’t necessarily mean he’s playing well; and that some guys have roles other than scoring goals. Imagine. The idiot.

also, FWIW, Miller is tied with Pyatt in scoring this year.

  22. I definitely think the Emery thing is WAY more egregious than the John Scott on Phil Kessel incident. I had *no* problem with that one aside from Kessel using his stick as a weapon.

  23. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I had no problem with the flyers caps fight at all, except the emery incident. I don’t mind goalies getting involved and fighting, but not when one doesn’t want to.

I’m still shocked that no one went all Goddard from their bench or matt Bradley. Instead they all chose to go girardi.

  24. I think the only supplemental discipline we have, for one fighter attacking someone who clearly declined to fight, and wasn’t in retaliation to a dirty play by the player declining to fight, is Carkner jumping Boyle. Carkner got 1 game.

  25. The Blogarithm on

I will abide by your terms. I ask what is your issue with honoring the victims of the largest terrorist attack in Boston history.

  26. Absolutely, Wicky. I cannot believe no one jumped into that fight.

The Doctor: I don’t mean that Holtby needs to learn how to fight as in, have a chance to win that fight. I mean that someone needs to tell Holtby to get close to Emery and turn it into a hugfest so that it can be broken up immediately.

  27. Monster Mash in for the muscle. AV wants GARDEN to be a TOUGH game for the road team to play in.

Add in the Brooks line from above, sending out the top line when 6-0.

Rangers set the tone right away! It’s going to be a HARD hitting game.

  28. @NHLGoaliesToday #Ducks Goalie Frederik Andersen Confirmed in goal tonight versus Rangers

    It’s the youngster.

  29. The issue is A) you are obviously taunting with it B) we don’t do politics here C) it has become a Red Sox anthem more than honoring victims. D) I don’t like it.

and E) how is it honoring victims by saying the same thing over and over and over on a Rangers blog?

  30. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Lmao re miller and pyatt tied in scoring!

You might also note they are both tied with Norris Stralman in points!

  31. Thanks for the reply Carp.

I just think that Miller provides speed and skill that Pyatt certainly does not possess.

They’re tied in points but Miller at least has the ability to pot a few.

Watching Pyatt is brutal. He’s barely a better skater than Hamrlik was last year.

  32. jay reimenschneider on

Unfortunately the Ducks are the best team the Rangers have played since playing the Ducks. Hope this prediction is wrong…

Rangers 2, Ducks 4. GWG Etem, Rangers shots: 26, Ducks shots: 32

  33. Agree, Chris. I will say that Pyatt is really good in tight games. If this team is ever involved in a 1 goal game, Pyatt is going to see a lot more ice time.

Further, I think that Vigneault sees Miller as a top 6 player and Pyatt as a bottom 6 player. He needs a bottom 6 guy tonight.

Still, I play Miller when you’re against a team like the Ducks. But he’s the successful NHL coach and I’m some opinionated fan boy who wastes his entire day on the worst hockey blog on the internets.

  34. I maintain that, if you don’t have an agenda against Pyatt you might notice that he’s played very effectively. Not a good skater at all, but strong along the wall, good on the forecheck, defensively responsible.

don’t get me wrong. I’m not putting him in the Hall of Fame, and I personally would rather have a Miller than a Pyatt. But you have to have all roles filled on a team, and there are some that Pyatt and Boyle do better than Miller.

  35. Mister D, I agree with you on the NHL handing out supplemental discipline on fights the way they do on hits. I wonder if this would need NHLPA approval.

Regarding Emery/Holtby: I think that Bettman or Walkom should call the ref (Francois St. Laurent) on the carpet for not stepping in and breaking it up. Imagine if Holtby is injured in fight he had no desire or reason to be in.

  36. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Re your 10:48, I think D) is the only one necessary!!! Just my opinion though.

    You da man!

  37. I would guess, based on the reaction, that there will be rules in place to prevent another assault and battery. Might take a while, and would need NHLPA approval.

  38. does anybody remember, wasn’t Matt Carkner suspended for a game for his assault and battery on Boyle in the playoffs?

  39. The issue with the NHLPA approving it is that they have to protect someone jumping a player who just laid a dirty hit on an opposing player but declines to answer the bell. E.G. Raffi Torres.

  40. I said that above, Carp. Carkner was suspended 1 game. Just like Dubinsky.

That’s the only precedent I can think of though.

  41. we won’t forget, Blogarithm. Nobody’s forgetting. If you need to repeatedly type it in order to remember, then you should see a doctor.

  42. Here is what I think occurred, Carp:

I think the only supplemental discipline we have, for one fighter attacking someone who clearly declined to fight, and wasn’t in retaliation to a dirty play by the player declining to fight, is Carkner jumping Boyle. Carkner got 1 game.

    *November 4th, 2013 at 12:47 PM*

  43. Domi was suspended for his assault on Samuelsson.

Bertuzzi on Moore … I know, a little different, but still he went a long way for an unprovoked attack against a player who didn’t want to fight.

  44. In defense of Boudreu putting out his 1st PP unit when he was up 6-0, the Ducks have the absolute worst PP in Hockey at 6.9% (Rangers are at 20.9%). Maybe he was just trying to practice.

The Ducks also have the second worst PK in the game (73.5%) (Rangers are at 81.6%). So let’s try to get them to take some penalties!

  45. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I know a doctor, but I’m not sure how good he is. He seems to spend a lot of time on the worst blog on the intraweb.

  46. Personally I was hoping that our 4th line tonight was:

I was hoping Mashinter would have been scratched.

No argument on Boyle, I love him. He has been a monster this year despite a high number of D zone starts. As long as he’s used properly (as bottom 6 fwd and on PK) hes a hugely important player.

I just don’t see it with Pyatt; I know he works well along the boards but he’s a liability in open ice. I especially don’t like AV’s use of him on the PK. I just don’t think he does anything well enough to justify his spot in the lineup. Especially for a team that has been hard-pressed to find scoring (until very recently).

  47. You’re correct. Frustrating for us fans, but like you said, there must be a good reason for it.

In the case of Miller, if he’s going to be on the bubble I hope AV sends him down to the A so he can play big minutes.

  48. I hope he stays too. I think he can and will be an important piece of this team. Only reason I would want him down is if AV couldn’t get him the minutes he needs up here. I must say Vigneault has been very good about that so far.

Miller will be especially important with the Nash uncertainty.

  49. @BroadStBull

#Flyers say their brawl against #Capitals has united the team. My BroadStBull blog: sulia.com/c/philadelphia…

In other words, Flyers say what their owner, GM, coach and goaltender want them to say.

  50. This is the writer that gave the 3rd Star of the game to Ray Emery: Frank Seravalli @DNFlyers

    Embarrassing for the NHL…

  51. And Ray Emery was at the White House today receiving his congratulations from Mr. President for his role on the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks.

  52. _@NHLGoaliesToday #Ducks Goalie Frederik Andersen Confirmed in goal tonight versus Rangers_

Young backup goalie? Too late to change my prediction to 7-0 Ducks?

  53. I’m very awful.

And I pull Pouliot from the lineup. You know he’s not here beyond this season and I don’t really believe he’s outplaying Miller or adds more than Miller so why not? This is the kind of decision you look back on and say “damn, can you believe (good kid) was once a healthy scratch while (forgettable vet) stayed in?”

  54. HockeymanRangers on

Rangers 2, Ducks 4. GWG: Nick Bonino Rangers shots: 30. Ducks shots: 28.

Well I hope I win the tickets but I also hope I am wrong.

  55. Undercurrent has long been that Miller has something of an attitude problem, whatever that means. Loaded with latent talent, but maybe doesn’t listen to the coaches? Who knows, but this sub rosa “attitude” thing has followed him for some time.

  56. He does take a lot of penalties. 2nd on the team behind Dorsett in terms of putting us down a man on the ice.

  57. Doodie Machetto on

I’ve got tickets to Wednesday’s Penguins game. $110 each, 220 for the pair, section 208, row 2 (with expanded leg room). Come see the best player in the world kick the crap out of our team!

  58. My hope is Pouliot is into his thin ice period. Is that a pun? Maybe. But really, I don’t like him and I don’t like his game. And I think he’s getting way too much time with good linemates. He’s just another enigma we’ll run through and he’s not even as talented as the ones before him.

  59. LOL, Doodie. I was going to add an addendum that we are all too cheap to actually buy anything ever.

  60. I should elaborate, its a tool (GVT based) calculating whether a player over or underperformed his draft position.

  61. At the Houses of Parliament
    Ev’rybody’s talking ‘bout the President

ample, but if she doesn’t, sir, that
will be her problem, not mine, just
as your rug is your problem, just as
every bum’s lot in life is his own
    responsibility regardless of whom he
chooses to blame. I didn’t blame
anyone for the loss of my legs, some
chinaman in Korea took them from me
but I went out and achieved anyway.
I can’t solve your problems, sir,
    only you can.”

  63. I took my bag into a grocer’s store

Old man asked me “Why is it more?”
I said “You should have seem me with the poker man
    I had a honey and I bet a grand
Just in the nick of time I looked at his hand

  64. MD, I think Pouliot was there out of necessity. Now that Callahan and Hagelin are back, he’s on the 3rd line where he belongs.

  65. Sioux: The Ref that for some odd reason didn’t stop the Emery assault on Holtby was *Ref. Francois St. Laurent*

  66. Rob in Beantown on

_But he’s the successful NHL coach and I’m some opinionated fan boy who wastes his entire day on the worst hockey blog on the internets._

This should be appended as a signature to the end of every single post on this blog

  67. Agreed, Gravy, and he did nothing with that time. Moving him down where he belongs isn’t going to improve matters, is it?

  68. I will start putting it there, Rob. At least the relevant part. I believe it should apply to nearly everything I say and I talk A LOT. Especially on here.

_But he’s the successful NHL coach and I’m some opinionated fan boy who wastes his entire day on the worst hockey blog on the internets._

  69. On the other hand, there is more real talent waiting tables in NYC than in all of Hollywood put together.

  70. I think he stunk the first 6-7 games (who didn’t?), but he’s played better, has some skill, scored a few late goals, and made the awesome diving pass to Brassard for the OT winner.

  71. Cooscoos

Not sure if you were aware but the was fined the league maximum (which is a astonishingly low). Link below.

Weird how the league doesn’t view that as dangerous for a suspension. Only because the head was not “primary point of contact”?

  72. Adam Tambellini was back at his normal left wing spot on the top line. If there is such a thing as a good loss then this would be it as the young North Dakota team is going to play several of these games as the team is asked to grow up on the fly.

I’m thinking Tambellini will be a Sioux for 4 years. When that boy turns sideways he disappears. Good thing they have the top of the line trainers and facilities at UND. This boy needs to put on pounds.

  73. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I quite honestly would have put cally on the brassard line and left the other lines alone. The step line and the secretariat line were playing fairly well as they were.

  74. Rob in Beantown on

    New York Rangers @NYRangers
#NYR Fun Fact: The #NYR have won 6 games so far this season and @RMcDonagh27 has recorded a point in all six of those games!

I don’t find it very fun that the Rangers have won just 6 games

  75. Miller being scratched is no great surprise. Cally being back is. Miller’s play has been blah. I would love to see AV let him ride it out. if Kreider does not continue to play the way he is, he’s next.

  76. Stranger Nation on

The Secretariat Line – niegh? If you are looking at it apples to apples or just putting the cart before the horse

  77. Stranger Nation on

McD tied for second in pts…give the stud some PP TOI and the pts will come more often

  78. Stranger Nation on

Good news – Rangers have 3 lines that can score

Bad news – Only 2 lines can play D

  79. Miller with 1 pt in 9 games.

Makes you wonder how many point Kristo would have put up in 9 games……

  80. can’t stand Holtby, just comes across as smug. I love fighting always have, hate Buttman and his anti rules. My most despised sports team are the flyers, so here is my take after full disclosure. Emery needs a seat on the bench for 12 games. Way way out of line, not skating down and being a bad ass, not even engaging the fight, but to continue to pound away when the guy wouldnt engage is ugly and could be real dangerous and get fighting thrown out all together. BTW if it was the NYR fans would be going nuts on how nobody stepped in…. Rolf n Gabby? people killing Hatfield and Giradi

  81. Kristo was a train wreck in the pre season. my guess is that he would still be a train wreck. let him put up points, and learn the pro game in the AHL.

  82. For you guys picking Silfverberg for the GWG, it’s going to be hard for him to score it with a broken hand. ;)

  83. Miller has 1 asst in 9 games this year, 4 pts in 26 games last year.

Miller out, Cally in. The Rangers are a better team.

  84. I’m fine with Kristo leading the pack. He needs to put in his time.

Frattin did with the Marlies, Nelson did it with Bridgeport.

  85. If we had to look at the numbers, and the start of the season. I wouldn’t mind if Kristo got a call up over Miller, if needed.

  86. _Miller being scratched is no great surprise. Cally being back is. Miller’s play has been blah. I would love to see AV let him ride it out. if Kreider does not continue to play the way he is, he’s next._

Yup. But we mostly all agree this is dumb, right? If players were benched based on a couple bad games, with no factor for age, no guy would make it 82 games without a healthy scratch. Even the captain goes into an annual funk where he takes some dumb penalties and just looks out of rhythm.

  87. Carp – Ryan Murphy’s fine is $2,213.68. This seems like Lunch money to me. Thumbs up or down on this one?

  88. Kreider has to show that he can consistently play at a high level. I think we all agree this is the best he’s looked over 6 games, including the playoffs two years ago.

  89. agree Mister D,
scratched for one game( like Zucc), I am ok with. sends a message. sending him down would be foolish.

  90. Stranger Nation on

Sioux – can you treat me to lunch next time in NYC? I will buy you a hot dog at a game as a trade.

  91. Doc but Cally is always hitting someone, blocking a shot, and is ALWAYS the hardest working when he is on the ice, even if he isn’t scoring. I can’t say the same thing for Miller.

I’m fine with Miller being the scratch tonight.

  92. Stranger Nation on

Please do not rile Miami from his afternoon nap

The correct term is THE KREIDER

    thank you

  93. the score of tonight’s game before the game starts will be 0-0……..any Nash sighting yet?……..

  94. agree with you as well Gravy,
Kreider needs to keep playing at this level, even higher. but AV also needs to let him play through the bumps in the road, and there will be some.

  95. Stranger Nation on

Miller is here because of injuries, not because he is NHL ready.

Bring up Bill Haley to ‘rip it up’

  97. I was talking to an Eskimo
Said he was hoping for a fall of snow
When up popped a sea lion ready to go

  98. Am I the only one here who thinks Holdby is a poosee and got what he deserved? I mean…if someone challenges you to fight you better fight! Coat-check forever!

  99. If someone challenged me to fight I’d say “What the hell are you doing? No. Stop. No, I’m not fighting you. This is stupid.” and I’d take out my phone and call the cops.

  100. Stranger Nation on

3CP – agree – kids a punk – at least throw up your locker and waffle board a couple of haymakers into the corner

  101. I would have reclined onto the net with my mask still on and waited to see if he’d really sucker punch me. You’re either going to semi-engage and get beat like Holtby did or get completely assaulted. I think I’d rather go with the latter and just see what happens.

  102. I would have skated over to the ref or maybe run towards my team? Probably I would have just gotten beat up in a very similar way that Holtby did. I might even be screaming “WHY AM I NOT BLACKING OUT!?” the whole time.

  103. Fun fact about JT Miller. He has scored a goal in only 1 out of the 35 games he has played so far in his career.

If you’re not going to score, you have do one of three things (1) be strong defensively, (2) kill penalties or (3) bring a physical element.

Miller does none of the above, so it’s quite obvious why he is the odd man out. Send him down to HFD, for an extended period of time, where he can work on his game and develop into an NHL player.

  104. Oleo – That’s what happens when you cut to many corners to the NHL.

But from his point of view, he will get a bigger pay day sooner. So I guess he wins…..if he can get a one way contract.

  105. Hagelin-Richards-Pouliot line is looking good in this 3 game winning streak.

IF this line is successful tonight, I can see a 3-2 Ranger win.

  106. Holtby should have grabbed Emery’s skates while he was down, and flipped him on the ice :)

  107. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let it go

  108. Can’t blame Miller for making $950,000 per year playing Pro hockey, that’s more than he would have made in college. But I would think his game could have used 2 years. Hags spent 4 years at Michigan. THE KREIDER spent 3 at BC, McDonuts spent 3 years in Wisconsin, and Step spent 2 year.

Rangers should have kept him a Sioux for 2 years. Then pulled him up, that would have been the wise move, and still have 2 years left on his ELC.

  109. Good evening all! Kudos to the blog’s gracious and generous donor. I’ll be lucky if I make game…still sick….Flyers are for carcillo….

  110. I think Callahan eventually winds up on the right side with Richards, but AV did plug him back on the open 3rd line spot when he first came back.

  111. I don’t recall knowing that Beukeboom was an assistant with Hartford. That has to help McIlrath.

  112. The Miller argument is deeper than “here are his stats and they aren’t good”, especially considering most nights he might be playing with more ES talent down in Hartford. I could be watching a totally different game or could be too biased, but I’ve really liked his physical play and his work on the PP.

  113. Sioux-per-man

Or he could have just stayed an extra year in the OHL. I know you’re a bit biased on the subject given your allegiance to North Dakota, but I still feel the OHL (or WHL) are better for a player’s development than the NCAA (even the better programs). More games, more practice time and probably less distractions too.

  114. Actually Oleo – I think playing in a top tier program where 14-15 guys are already drafted from an NHL team, and playing against old players 19-22 years old players is better for their development.

Now if you are a top tier player like Parise, Towes, Oshie, THE KREIDER, McDonagh, Stepan your going for 2 or 3 years.

Not many kids are ready for NHL at 18/19 years old, mentally or physically. The Sioux have developed over 200 Pro Hockey players. It would have done him some good to play a couple of years there. And from a Ranger Mgmt point of view, they would have got a bigger, faster, stronger forward, with more time on his ELC.

  115. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Justin Bieber seen sneaking out of a brothel wearing a sheet so as to not be recognized? That kid sure spends a lot of time being photographed pretending to be hanging with women……talk about a 3 dollar bill. But, he is pretty.

  116. Now Hags played 4 years, at another top tier program. Maybe he was a bit of a late bloomer, or it wasn’t the right time to jump. Rangers certainly did the right thing in his development.

Personally, I think the Rangers may have rushed Miller by a couple of years. IMHO.

  117. Miller belongs in the NHL. This is all part of the process.

growing pains. sometimes you learn more from a kick in the pants than a slap on the back.

  118. He wouldn’t even have been the best player on the Sioux team last year.

That said he sure would have looked good next to Grimaldi. I’m thinking the Sioux hang banner #8 if Miller would have played 2 years.

  119. What I’m saying is that it didn’t hurt Stepan, McDonagh, Kreider, or Hagelin to play a couple of year at the NCAA level. I think it helped them, in more ways than one.

Dolan doesn’t care about the money so the 3 year ELC really doesn’t matter. But you will have to give him a new contract 2 years sooner.

  120. I watched Tambellini on Sat. night, he looks like he should have played in the USHL for one year.

    That kid is thin.

He was getting knocked off the puck all night long.

  121. He may have top line talent, maybe he weighs 150 lbs wet.

So it will be interesting to follow him over the years, just to see how he grows into an NHL body.

Then there’s always the 4 year degree to fall back on. Which helps in the long run. When hockey is over, maybe you have 20 – 30 credits and you get your degree.

  122. Oleo – than there’s the chance to play in front of 12,000 fans, and a packed house every night. Juniors maybe you have 1500 – 2000 fans. That’s an experience all in itself. I’ll take you to a game if you ever get out this way.

  123. Sioux-per-man

All that is true, but if Kreider went to the OHL instead of BC, maybe he doesn’t need three years there and 2 years as a pro to get to where he is now. Not to mention playing in the CHL at age 16-17 is a much higher level of play than US junior hockey or HS.

Sure, top programs like North Dakota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, BC, BU etc. produce NHL players, but not at the rate the OHL and WHL do.

  124. I see a ridiculous amount of “Kreider”.

I mean, come on … how much more effort does it take to type THREE EXTRA LETTERS and give the man his proper title?

    Just do it.

  125. Score: Rangers 3 Anaheim 0

Game Winner: do you really have to ask? Stralman of course with a natural Hat Trick!

Shots on goal: rangers 27 Anaheim 23

  126. Jeff in South Dakota on

why is my comment awaiting moderation carp? The word I used is commonly used on broadcast TV.

  127. Oleo – How many players on Miller’s junior team were drafted by an NHL team?

I think it was 3. The Sioux had 14 (15 had Miller played)
Miller would have been the 3rd line center his Freshman year.

He played in front of 1,500 peeps, instead of 12,000.

Oleo – you’ll have to check it out. It’s worth the trip. Then and only then you will get a taste of what I’m saying.

  128. Ducks are starting their rookie goaler. Sure to make him look like a vezina candidate.

  129. Sioux, it seems like everyone has their breakout game against us. Sometimes we help by wearing out their logo with lousy shots.

    But not tonight!!!

  130. Rangers 6, Ducks 4. GWG: Kreider. Rangers shots 28. Ducks shots 31. Out of town the tenth, give my tickets to the girls.

  131. chef Alain 'Prost" C'est La Vie-gneault on

Ducks 4, Rangers 1. GWG: Getzlaf. Rangers shots: 18. Ducks shots: 44.
