It’s Go Time! … Hurricanes at Rangers

[polldaddy poll=7528689 align="left"]
Game 13.canes
Hurricanes at Rangers.

Ya boys have won two in a row and three of four. They play the second of a four-game homestand tonight.

Carolina has lost four in a row. The Rangers have won eight in a row against the Hurricanes.

Henrik Lundqvist starts in goal, with the same lineup in front of him, which means Justin Falk is prucha’d, while Ryan Callahan (thumb), Rick Nash (concussion) and Dominic Moore (oblique) remain out.

Betcha didn’t know that Marc Staal has brothers. You’re about to find out tonight.

Speaking of familiar faces, the Hurricanes this week signed ex-Ranger Manny Malhotra.

  1. Is it just me or does msg particularly joe mich sugarcoat players who are not producing. It’s one thing that Stephan hasn’t scored because he’s had chances.

  2. Pavel Bure is having his number retired tonight in Vancouver. Deserving for sure.

  3. Are Eric and Marc Staal related? I feel someone would have mentioned it in the past if that were the case.

  4. that was a great play by Pouliot and Hags.

if that shot was further left it would have been an easy tap-in for Pouliot.

    From the last thread

Well there goes some fun :(

  6. It is against the laws of physics, man and nature to be Sox fan and a Rangers fan. If those worlds ever collide, the universe will end in an instant. All that will be left are cockroaches and Mike Lupica

  7. Hags took advantage of day off to get blondy rinse. He was starting to look a little mousey.

  8. Carp

Any reason why the Kreider line has barely played this game. This is like their 3rd shift in the last 10 minutes.

  9. Wonder why carolina never asked about Biron in a trade or tried to talk him out of retirement? Even short term he has to be better than peters, right?

  10. I thought Kreider had arrived because of the past few games but tonight Kreider has been invisible. Ranger players who have played well tonight is obviously hagelin, richards, brassard and dorsett.

  11. It’s not an elbow, that was a dumb call, but he certainly swung around and smacked that little dope in the face.

  12. if moore, brassard sand dorsett play like they’ve played tonight consistently this year than the trade was a win. The only problem I have with dorsett is he sometimes lets his emotions get the better of him and he plays like he is 6’3″ and because of his size will get injured sooner or later.

  13. Joe says he’s only 5’10, so he has to go at the knees. The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  14. That was a filthy hit by Murphy, and IMO an idiotic penalty later by Dorsett. elbow to the chest and slap to the face? Hit the guy if you want retribution.

  15. Remember when Maloney went to smash his stick on his own crossbar after a given up goal and missed….. And hit JD across the ankles?

  16. Staal should call for the puck there. I don’t know if he did.

I agree that was a selfish play, that penalty by Dorsett. But he is having a fairly effective game.

  17. Bob Crawford @hawkcrawford
Unfortunate sight in 1st period, Jesper Fast had to be helped off ice after falling in corner, not putting any weight on one leg.

  18. looks like Kreider decided to show up in the third period. I wonder if the coach lit a fire under his butt.

  19. Olga Folkyerself on

This just in: A 20oz bottle of Disani water at MSG is $5.25

Did you go to watch hockey, or drink water?

  20. chef Alain 'Prost" C'est La Vie-gneault on

The Croissant planning breakfast at Pastis! Just because we winning won’t back from my fire the croissant stance.

  21. Stepan is now having a good season and training camp is totally less important than I thought but if he hadn’t scored twice tonight I would still think missing training camp makes him very selfish!!!

  22. It looked like Kreider took a nasty hit along the boards to make play. Never mind, they just showed it

  23. oh my goodness where was everyone tonight??? i’m not even a regular game thread contributor, but this is odd

  24. Olga, they’re probably all at bars ready to kill themselves when their favorite beer kicks but then totally back on board when the bar just taps another.

  25. Kreider started the whole thing by separating the man from the puck with that check, then stealing it and passing it.

He deserves two point s for that.

  26. at least this team is playing well enough to beat up on bad teams now, a week ago that wasn’t the case…

seeing us get going a little bit now just makes the idiotic preseason trip to banff even more ridiculous… its obvious we needed more time installing the system and less time with uncle glen golfing

  27. chef Alain 'Prost" C'est La Vie-gneault on

MR ICCC of P, that is some fancy talk there…are you a polyglot or just classless?

  28. Stepan seems to be waking up, Hags been looking good since coming back, The Kreider’s been unstoppable, Pouliot finally woke up, Zucc’s bounced back since being scratched, Richie’s been better than last year…imagine when Cally or even Nash comes back?? Imagine if we didn’t start the pre-season on the west coast and the season against the top teams in the western conference? Yay for optimism!

  29. Hey carp, I’m glad your not a ranger fan or have any aliance towards any nhl team so you can view things objectively. I bleed ranger red/white and blue. When the rangers don’t do well i get stupid. It’s nice to have you here running this blog to keep us ranger fans from going nuts, keeps us in line and not jumping off the ledge. Thank You.

  30. Well, they don’t look as good as they have in the last two but, man, a win is a win is a win is a win!!

Luck is on their side tonight. This is a lot of fun.

  31. Good game. Props to the Hurricanes for not giving up at any point. Shows how important having a great goalie is in the NHL. If not for Lundy, the game wouldn’t have been a blowout.

  32. I must admit, rangers need to sign Lundqvist. Hopefully Lundqvist comes down to earth just a little and gives the rangers organization a slight home town discount.

  33. Slatsko Folkyerself on

Awww… Lundqvist has been traded a hunnert times on this blog. As soon as we lose three in a row somebody here thinks we can move him for 3 superstars and a couple first rounders. Thank God Sather doesn’t read this blog.

I don’t think he can read at all…

  34. If fellow Ranger fans want to discount wins against bad teams and whine about it, they should discount losses to the really good teams as well.

  35. chef Alain 'Prost" C'est La Vie-gneault on

    MR ICC of P,

I’m checking stage ads to see if there is a position open as Oscar the Grouch’s stunt double….I’ll let you know!

  36. Stepan is still shooting below his career percentage by a decent amount. Tonight wasn’t his turnaround, it was just his luck evening out.

  37. carp, have there ever been a time when rangers had 2 players in the same game both have a hat trick ?

would have been nice if step and hags both had a hat trick.

don’t get me wrong very happy with the win.

  38. jpg’s sis, I believe it has happened and fairly recently … but I can’t think of it off the top of my somewhat fried head.

  39. Wow really? They gave Ray Emery 3rd star last night for letting in 7 goals and pounding Holtby. You stay classy Philadelphia. Yea, Laviollette was the problem.

  40. “beat another crappy team … no progress? ” Only 3 games. Nothing to draw conclusions from.Add Your Comment

  41. Guess the Phlyers got themselves going last night with that punch fest. Crushed the Devils 1-0.

  42. zuccarello again had a good game.

Hagelin with the first two… Stepan with the last three.

I am ready for another game already.

  43. I don’t believe Rangers couldn’t get a shutout against the Carolina rice offence. Season’s Over! Trade Everyone. Clean House. Clean Slate!

  44. Olga Folkyerself on

Jets Lost! Join the Black Hawks movement Manny. They come in handy when the Rangers miss the playoffs.

  45. Olga Folkyerself on

What’s not to like, Manny. Rangers and Hawks are in a different Conference. There’s no conflict of interest, they will only meet in the finals. Then you can go with your conscience.

  46. I never post just read, but I had to say this. I don’t know why everyone, including Carp assumed that M. Staal will want to be traded or sign with Carolina. Maybe the other Staals will want to be traded to NY instead. Also based on Carps Track Record lately (Torts won’t get fired, etc) I really think that it’s possible.

  47. chef Alain 'Prost" C'est La Vie-gneault on

Mr ICC of P, do you have a SAG card? Also, maybe buy a trash can from home depot tomorrow to practice opening on command. Good evening, chap.

  48. This whole Philly situation is pathetic…just so totally pathetic.
I agree with Dave Maloney though at one point I did not.
Last nights freak show in Philly just turns my stomach.

  49. Thanks, I appreciate it. I will try. I do love to read all of your comments, but it’s just tough for me to post due to work, family, etc.

  50. e3 is costing me a lot of money by not being around :)

yes, I miss Duguay. Just think, though, that the Rangers are kinda MSG’s No. 1 hockey team, and they spend all freakin night talking about everybody but. One answer from Vigneault’s presser, no lockerroom (yet).

  51. Rob in Beantown on

It was weird. On the cable guide NHL network had the Rangers-Canes, but they showed Canucks-Leaves instead. No idea why they changed it.

  52. I’m sure the person that misses E3 the most is Coos. They are like lost soul brothers split apart at birth.

  53. I know Rob and because it was scheduled on NHL network it was blacked out on MSG, at least for me. Luckily they’ll replay it later tonight.

  54. Rob in Beantown on

We adopted a cat yesterday. She is currently at the foot of the bed, I believe plotting our demise . A little creepy

  55. Speaking of Bure, the best line was from my good friend JD. Bure slashed/chopped Jay Wells in the finals in ’94 and he got a game misconduct. J.D. says ” well that’s why they call him the “Russian Rocket” and not a “Russian Rocket Scientist”. I thought that was awesome.
