About Author

  1. I’m not ready to say this coach was a huge mistake … but I might be getting closer.

Can’t completely bury him with this lineup.

  2. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Kooz – hard to say. Staal has sucked, Girardi has sucked, McD has been blah, MDZ has open lesions…..what’s a fella to do

  3. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Rich – scotty bowman the coach wouldn’t do better….now, Bowman, the GM is another story….

Tiggers up 2-1 into the 7th

  4. Carp – maybe not. But, he sure has to take some of this on his plate – they have looked unprepared at times – thats gotta be on him as well as the players

  5. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Orr is right. Messier might not be winning more games, but they wouldn’t be as soft…

  6. I think: (granted, he doesn’t have the horses, but)

1.He doesn’t really know his players
2.He doesn’t know whether to accentuate offense of defense
3.He should have left the defense alone, kept the same pairs, and concentrated on offense and PP
    4. Henrik has shocked him
    5. Wings aren’t helping nearly enough with the breakout
    6. This offensively challenged group MUST crash the net

  7. Agree, Carp. The mistake was firing Tort after dismantling everything he had built. But now we are in this new era with the Rangers attempting to compete with teams playing a style that has pretty much never produced a Cup. But hey, this is New York. Anything can happen.

  8. Wahhh! Torterella yells at me! Wahhh, Torterella makes me block shots! Wahhh, I can’t see the puck, and it bothers me, even though I won a Vezina and had my best year and made it to the conference finals.

New York Baby Rangers, should be their name.

  9. Orr as Eddie are right about that. I still think Guy Boucher was the top choice. Gernander second.

  10. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Too many stiffs on this team. Boyle, MZA, Pyatt, Powe, Dom Moore – those 6 would be in the AHL on any good team.

  11. _Too many stiffs on this team. Boyle, MZA, Pyatt, Powe, Dom Moore – those 6 would be in the AHL on any good team._

No but Torts would get the best outta all of those stiffs!

..and i mean it in the happiest way possible :)

  12. Vigneault has a point though that the Devils only had 8 scoring chances and better 50% of them. Not saying that was good by the Rangers. The Devils just suck. But still.

  13. My sixth sense tells me that Torts is history not so much because of player complaints, but because Torts was grating on Sather with his public persona and I have the feeling that he utilized that persona (that he cannot control) once too often to Glennie directly. And Glennie, in his delusionary world, figured he was building a powerhouse and could have Mickey Mouse coaching this team so long as he had a pedigree to satisfy the fan faithful.

  14. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Torts sealed his own fate / his time was up….there’s a number on the wall for all of us and when yours is called, so be it….the team sucks. But it’s the lack of compete that is confounding…

  15. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Hockey requires a team to play with passion. Care for each other…protect each other…help each other..

We ain’t got none of that

  16. Olga Folkyerself on

Too many stiffs on this team. Boyle, MZA, Pyatt, Powe, Dom Moore – those 6 would be in the AHL on any good team.

    Five, Sire.

  17. I bet I know who Latona wants to come in here and take over……

But Vigneault isn’t getting fired. He gets a season or two.

  18. Ash/Haley/Dorsett and pound the hell out of them! Challenge the puck in the O zone all game and create turnovers. How else do you score with one floating, slow rabbit as your total offense? Jersey’s D sucks, and they only had 5 of them most of the game. What we’re seeing is inept management, top to bottom.

  19. “What’s going on between the benches, Dave? Dave? …Dave? I guess Dave is preparing three innocuous questions for Taylor Pyatt.”

  20. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

    Kooz – werd

I’ve always been a fan of an Ash, Dorsett, Haley line. Pyatt and MZA going the other way…

  21. You know, if they just gave it all they had, played as a team, left it all on the ice it wouldn’t be so painful. They would still suck but it wouldn’t be so painful.

  22. Dolan’s got a full building all paying premium obscene prices, most eating roast beef sandwiches and drinking beer. ‘You’re doing a great job, ‘Brownie- Glennie.”

  23. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Seedubs – exactly. Losing is fine by me if they are competing. This team isn’t working hard in any zone.

  24. Signing Richards to that contract was the first of many mistakes. Letting warriors like Prust, Mitchell, and Fedotenko all go were the next mistakes…
Trading Anisimov and Dubinsky for $7.8M concussed Nash was the next error.
Trading Gaborik for underachieving 1st round picks and the clown Dorsett still is mind boggling to me. We didn’t even get a first round pick?
Firing Torts was the nail in the coffin…and made the Gaborik trade pointless…
    Fire Sather!!

  25. Olga Folkyerself on

That pretty much sums it up coos. That’s why I root for the Hawks. The Rangers are just a sentimental journey now.

  26. If Torts were here and they were playing like this, I would have said he was losing the team. Yes.

  27. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

NyR fan / you mentioned about everything that’s gone wrong. But Slats should be extended…

  28. Manny

Good to know that you’d be ok with crappy team play as long as certain someone is coaching…

  29. In our defense we aren’t the first team to almost win it all and then blow up the team trying to get over that last little hump.

This is hockey. The sport with the most parity on the planet. If you don’t win one year doesn’t mean that same group can’t be there the next year with hard work and determination.

As Eddie said its all about playing as team. Living as a team. Dying as a team. Etc.

  30. Filthy fans, in the distant past, before their team became a power, loved their energetic, never-say-die attitude and the way they stuck up for each other, even as they stumbled to terrible records. NY demands more, and should, but that’s a start.

  31. When I was in Disneyland, my little kid asked for a Mickey Mouse outfit, so I bought her the Rangers.

  32. Olga Folkyerself on

Rangers suck. I’m going to bed. Rangers will suck tomorrow. Rangers will suck until Sather is gone. And probably for a few years after that.

  33. It seems we all feel the same way. Bottom line, we deserve better. That hard working team of two years ago showed us what it could be like and now we have this…schlock. We deserve better.

  34. The GM position is really opening up now that Jarmo Kekäläinen has opened the door for Europeans. Could be really interesting to see who starts filling vacancies across the NHL.

  35. Absolutely Coos. More space in the width area would be a huge change. They could just bring back the two line pass though. Maybe stop trying to fabricate football scores every single night.

  36. I just think that a good hockey game is always going to be low scoring. No matter what. The exciting ones will be 2-1 or something similar. So why out players at risk trying to fabricate high scores.

  37. Anyone yet using those new jeans with the enormous crotch that lets you move around a little? eddie?

  38. Pär Mårts is a WINNER. OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST. Vigneault won “underachieving with a talented team” in VAN and is the frontrunner for “underachieving with an untalented team” in NY.

  39. Maybe the compliance buyout wasn’t used on Richards because Sather was saving it for Nash instead? If so that’s even more reason to get rid of him.

  40. duckbillplatypus on

I love the Rangers, and understand everyone’s angst. I think this sort of play leads to all the callups we want, and then at least we can have some fun watching. I think Sather will give AV the quick hook if this lasts much longer. He is not Dolan in that regard. Aside, the NHL strike soured me on the game. I refuse to ever attend a game ever again (and haven’t since…i was good for 10-20 games a year at one point), nor will I ever buy any Ranger or NHL jackets or jerseys etc. I will still watch and support the team until they are ready to throw dirt on me before my eternal sleep.

Latona for GM, coach and lunch czar. That is all!™

  41. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

NyR fan – still think gabby for the 3 was a good move. Gabby has looked good at times this year. And he could score 30+ this season….but imo that was a good trade. Nash and Clowe trades, in hindsight, were real bombs.

  42. duckbillplatypus on

That sort of kindness melts this duck’s heart; however, such grandeur should be bestowed upon the greatest person to grace any blog…aka the Latona! Good day, olde sports!

  43. This team going for the Stanley Cup is the equivalent of an El Salvadoran squad trying to win the gold medal in curling.

  44. If we get Sather out of here tomorrow I think we can be back to the conference finals in three years.

  45. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Slats isn’t going anywhere, sadly. Nor should he. Winning and losing are irrelevant so long as the bottom line never bottoms out….good teams come and go, but diamonds are forever…

  46. So tell me, I chose sushi and drinks over watching this.

Was it as bad as the west coast?

I wasnt thrilled about AV but everyone convinced me it was the right move…

  47. it wasn’t that bad…

they were all out of position on the west coast.

tonight… I have to admit, they were so boring I was watching the AHL instead,

  48. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Tomb – it’s not the rangers are boring … no no no no, it’s just that they’re not exciting….

  49. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

The problem is not slats or Jim Dolan – it goes higher up than that. Sather is only Pres/GM and Dolan the owner….

  50. Slats Revere: “Can you train these men to march?”
Alain de Lafayette: “Certainly to March, never to June.”

  51. Slats Revere: “Will appointing you general pay off?”
Alain de Lafayette: “Pay off, maybe. Playoff, never.”

  52. Alain de Lafayette: “Lose formation!”
Slats Revere: “Do you mean loose?”
    Alain Lafayette: “Nope.”

  53. Slats Lincoln: “Four score and seven years ago..”
Alain Seward: “Definitely didn’t score four.”

  54. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Slats is the Napolean of our time. It must be pointed out that Bonaparte could only do pee pee while sitting in a hot bath.
