  1. Gravy, Just Gravy on

They seem to be giving Allen a real shot, though I don’t know how realistic it is with a $1.775 cap hit.

  2. Gravy – perhaps just to see him play a couple more Pro games before he starts the year in Hartford. You would think they would want their top D prospects playing 20+ minutes to develop their Pro game.

Falk will be the 7 D-Man that rides the pine – my guess.

  3. I wonder if they keep Bickel just for his particular attribute, and because anybody else would be best served by playing every night in AHL.

  4. Is it easier to put the youth in Hartford?

Like : Fast, Lindberg, Miller, Hrivik, Mashinter

or loose a vet to waivers : Asham, Powe, Pyatt

Pyatt vs Boyle do you keep both?

  5. Gravy, Just Gravy on

By my quick calculations, assuming Falk is the 7th d-man, they can sign Stepan for $3.25 and keep Miller without having to use the LTI exception ($87k under the cap). This would include waiving Asham and Powe.

  6. Haley got cut early. Too bad, I was really Pulling for him. Kind if surprised to see Talbot go down this early as well.

  7. Pyatt/Hrivik – Lindberg/Miller – Fast/?

Sometime during the season we should see a Swede line in:

    Hags – Lindberg – Fast

That line could be fun to watch. Lot’s of speed!

  8. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I’m not sure Bickel gets demoted considering the roster make up…I was hoping Haley would stick. Maybe mashinter will

  9. Ironic that Bicks might make the big club for the reason Carp stated, a paradoxical admission that his future is
less rosy than some of those who are sent down to play every night.

  10. keeping Bickel would be going backwards. I skate better than Mashinter, and I have a bad knee.

  11. They would love to have Mash ($600 grand) replace Pyatt ($1,650,000). Obviously, they have deemed that he can’t.

  12. not saying I would, bull dog, but wondering if they might …

just as hockey people who know a lot more about the team and personnel than I do, and some of us do, think a lot higher of Pyatt and Boyle than some of us do; think, as difficult as it may be to believe, they have a better chance to win a particular game or an entire season worth of games with those guys than rookies who are not ready to contribute.

  13. Carp,
nobody knows more hockey than we do here. Pyatt has been wearing the A during the pre season. I think that may give you an idea as to what AV thinks of him. Boyle is a valuable player if used right. once he starts playing 14 to 16 minutes a game his value diminishes.

  14. We are the Boneheads!
    We may not be tough
And we may not be rough
    But we’re erudite
    And that’s enough.

  15. when all healthy and signed, this is what it could look like.

    Hagelin, Stepan, Nash
    Pouliot, Brassard, Cally
    Kreider (or Miller) Richards, Zucc.
    Pyatt, Moore, Boyle, Dorsett.

  16. Looked for you Saturday, Sioux, but got involved with other things and missed the Fargo bar. Did you make the TV?

  17. thats 11 forwards. does not include Asham, or Powe. and all 4 rookies in the AHL. I don’t know whether that is depth at forward, but that is a lot of forwards.

  18. something will have to give there. Kreider, and or Miller could end up in the AHL. and I meant to say that is 13 forwards, not 11.

  19. also on D they have kept Allan around. I would think they are not looking at him to be the 7th Dman, so what spot is he competing for?

  20. so lets say they send Kreider and Miller down. here is your lineup.

    Hagelin, Stepan, Nash.
    Pouliot, Brassard, Cally.
    Pyatt, Richards, Zucc.
    Boyle, Moore, Dorsett.
    Asham is your spare forward.

  21. This new iPhone 5s is totally boss. What an upgrade over my old iPhone 4! This thing flies. It’s actually worth posting on the new site format from my phone.

  22. Dog, in answer, I have the feeling that AV is intrigued by Allen’s speed and just wants to see him up close and personal another game or two as future reference for an in season call-up if it becomes necessary.

  23. by the way, that would leave there minor league team with a top 6 of
Lindberg, Fast, Hrivek, Kreider, Miller, and Kristo. St Croix is also there.

  24. Next five Cuts, (if Stepan remains unsigned)

Forwards: Mashinter, Fast, Lindberg and Hrivik.

    Defense: Falk

  25. Noticed more point directed wristers with a big body stationed in front. Better than all those slappers wide or against the glass.

  26. If Richards does not pick it up after 10 games in, Jesus! Something, at that point, I don’t know exactly what, must be done.

  27. Simply make him a healthy scratch I bet AV doesn’t have the Bickels at the ten game point to do that but hopefully by game eleven he will.

  28. I think Veen-Yo, as the new guy, is gonna give the Veterans the opening road trip to measure their performance, contribution and value to the team .

When we go 1-5 to start, all bets are off, every man for himself, no more life jackets provided.

  29. sorry Wicky
    and others in regards to
but just ’cause you want it to be
doesn’t mean it’s meant to be….at least right now.

after the 2 losses i think AV wants to have more of a
realistic lineup in place to get time in and used to
    doing things his way.

when is there and is there still a Waiver Draft?

  30. I don’t think there’s any way that Kreider starts the season in Hartford.

but in all those projections, does it bother anybody that Hagelin might be a first-line winger? Or that Pouliot might be top-six?

  31. didn’t think so Carp
but my mind is so many other things than
    hockey right now
i thought it may still happen.
    thanks for the answer

  32. Carp: agree on Kreider and would be worried to see Hags or Pouliot in the top 6.

    Kreider is 1st line LW.

  33. Anyone hear these NHL announcers talking about how sad it was that Bertuzzi was hurt last season and how his comeback is apparently heartwarming? Puke….

  34. Puke fest, glad I missed it.

Thought this was interesting, I hadn’t heard this.

Sabres coach Ron Rolston fined for “player selection and team conduct.”

  35. DER-EK STEP-AN clap clap clap clap clap

FWIW i kinda wanted / want Haley to be on team…tough SOB willing to fight / protect…him dom moore and dorsett would be a fast gritty 4th line that would forecheck like crazy…just my opinion…my lines

    Kreider Stepan Nash
    Cally Richards Hagelin
    Fast / Hrivik Lindberg Miller
    Haley Moore (boyle) dorsett

Somethin like that…with haley sent down i could see boyle moore dorsett as 4th line but who knows

  36. Stranger Nation on

Please get rid of Pie-hat and Kung Powe. do we really have to watch those guys for another season? did Powe even have a pt last yr?

Allen was bad last night in own zone = too young, needs to go to hartford.

Bummed Haley was sent down – guys is what you want in a 4th liner.

Out of all the young guys Fast has impressed the most with a willingness to take the body and skates very….fast

  37. If anyone would like to sit next to me at outdoor game vs islanders. I have extra ticket. It’s my 35th bday present. Center ice first row upper deck

Here catch $250. Let me know

  38. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Keeping ritchie rocket will be the rangers undoing this year. His salary divided by worth = infinity. And worse than the money, now he needs to play – and where? He uber sucks. Horrible horrible decision.

  39. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Thanks. Although I’m not related to him or anything and I quite honestly don’t want him here if he isn’t ready. We need a mcilrath type player badly and have for years. That player doesn’t have to be named mcilrath, just play that rugged style of D.

Fwiw, I also said that IMHO the d man I would have picked in that draft is gudbranson. I thought he wS the best d man in that draft by far.

We sound like this poor 21 year old kid has been around as long as b rich and is all washed up, he still has time to develop into an nhl player.

  40. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Manny – we’ve had Claar wines. I don’t think they’re CA though. Great prices though if I remember correctly. The Cabs were delicious if I recall…. Last few months we’ve been on a Chardonnay jag….

  41. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

    B. Ritchie Rocket is hardly washed up…..clearly in the rinse cycle – but far from washed up….

  42. Agree, McIlrath is still young at 21.

But IMO, his most glaring deficit as a hockey player is his lack of skating ability, which seems to be well below an NHL caliber. Skating is not always correctable with time and experience. Some players just aren’t able too do it well and some players are just plain gifted.

What I’m trying to say is, in spite of his young age and the effort and energy he will certainly put in, Mcilrath may never improve his skating ability to an acceptable NHL level.

  43. Solved. pREVIOUSLY and cARELESSLY mUST have typed (fAT fINGERED) in the EMAIL BOX causing discrepancy in e-mail resulting in lOST aVATAR.

  44. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Manny – this weekend it will be in the high 70’s – right now however, there are 40 mph wind gusts – not so bueno here as I type. I love the reds. It matters not time of year. It’s just we are eating only chicken and fish/seafood and the chards out here are simply divine….

Good lord it is effing howling outside….

  45. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Johns will get his shot – just needs to stand tall and not shrink. I sense that by going up and down the ice, Johnson will be ready to bang when needed

  46. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Johnson can scream till he’s blue in the face about going down, but he’ll be up again soon…

  47. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

My wife just looked over my shoulder and said “you and your 10 year old friends must crack each other up” :)

    Baby knows

  48. Veen-Yo: “Sam, I felt Johnson was working hard and humming right along, then all of the sudden, he spit the bit”

  49. “Yeah Johnson’s a little down now. A little more play’in time time with Schoeny down in Hartford and he’ll be back up before ya know it. Schoeny gpt a magic touch with Johnson.”

  50. “Johnson is apparently a very good friend of Rick Nash, as they spent time together in Columbus. ”

    Nash and Johnson are tight

  51. AV: ‘Johnson, you in the mood for another shift?’
“Coach, I can’t get over the boards until I get out of the mood.”

  52. Eddie: we need to start a wine discussion group for refined Ranger fans. Rob can come since he’s got a 5s.
