If Stepan gets an offer sheet, the Rangers will match, trade Brassard, and go with Lindberg/Kristo/etc. Granted, they’ll be getting 10 cents on the dollar for Brassard, but I think that would need to be the course of action.

  2. the course of action would be to trade Boyle, not Brassard. plus a lot of the dead wood would be waived.

  3. If that were the case, they might have no other choice, Graves, but to deal Brassard, – other than to bank draft picks, and then try to legally destroy the Isle’s franchise one way or the other.

  4. Yeah, more likely they’d clean out the bottom of the roster for cap space to match … and maybe Biron too? Maybe they will dump Biron and his $1.3M anyway?

Boyle is not going to cut it now matter how many times you say it. Maybe Boyle and Pyatt, if you can trade them. You only save $900k each by waiving.

  6. Gravy, they have $2.18M right now. They pick up another $1.7M when they dump Asham and Powe. If they could find takers for Boyle and Pyatt, there’s another $3.2M … these numbers are off the top of my dome. You can check them easily.

  7. I know you are not supposed to speculate Carp, but do you have any speculation as to why he is out?

  8. With his six starts last year pro-rated, Biron made over $100,000 per game, as compared to McD’s NEW large contract at $50,000 per.

  9. Gravy, Just Gravy on

That sounds about right, Carp. But that would leave them with only 11 forwards, so they’d need another $1.7M (2 players) minimum. So, they’d be able to squeeze in $5.4M, give or take. It would be close, but I don’t think they’d want to be right up against the cap like that. And that doesn’t even factor in the replacements for Callahan/Hagelin.

If Boyle is waived to the minors, his savings would only be $900k. If he is traded or picked up on waivers by another team, then it’s $1.7M.

  11. I think that would be the number if he were waived, a la Asham and Powe. Not sure they can still do that and get rid of his cap hit. He’d have to be traded. Then it would be $1.7 savings. He could easily be traded. But for what?

  12. for what? I think he has value. I would try to stay away from trading him for draft picks. I would also send him out west. maybe a younger version of him, or a good prospect (plus a draft pick) who has fallen out of favor where he is.

They’re not going to get more than a 4th or 5th rounder for Boyle when trying to trade him in the position.

  14. Just glad to have a HOCKEY back on the blog.

    Dog Days are gone!

That said Mama found Packer tickets for this weekend, I might have to leave Stepan at home. I had room for him on the boat, but not on the bench :)

  15. any “personal matter” that takes you away from hockey, can’t be good.

I hope all is well with Marty.

  16. My wife thought Torts was good looking. Now she thinks AV is “dreamy.” Wonderful. If this coaching hire doesn’t pan out, I say bring in someone really cute, like Sutter or Hitchcock.

I’m playing Sleepy Hollow tomorrow, right in your backyard. Give me your
quick take. I know it’s a CB McDonald but little more…..

  17. If Biron isn’t just missing a day or even two, can’t help but worry that whatever it is that’s detaining him is kinda serious. Hope all ends up well for him —- he is a great guy.

Like I said a few threads ago, canes are going to need a d man, perfect time to move Stralman the hell out of here…or the mad bomber.

  19. Stemmer, great course. They used to have the seniors event there every year. Rangers alum had their outing with current players, too, there on Tuesday. Awesome Hudson views.

  20. Haven’t seen Sleepy Hollow in years, back when the Seniors competed there. As Carp said, splendiferous in the Fall. And you get leafies, too!

  21. Packers 7 over the Redskins, Sioux. You get to see the ‘Skins’ before they become the Washington Filibusters. Always wanted to see Lambeau.

  22. Just saw some old Billy Smith clips from the old Islanders. If you pulled a spin=o=rama on him, you’d need an ankle transplant.

  23. Olga Folkyerself on

Stop worrying about Stepan’s contract. I’m sure Sather will do whatever is fair and right for all concerned. I’m giving him a clean slate.

    Psssssshhhhhhhhhhhh… Ohhhhhhhh……BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I couldn’t hold it in any longer….

  25. All you Stepan lover-boys, please, the constant whining about poor little Derek is making me sick. And another thing, you cant decide how to spend another mans (Dolan’s) money. That job is for Sather.

    Stepan blows. Cut him.

(I can hate with the best of them) . :-)

  26. If Sather pulled this kind of Stepan thing on Knuckles Nilan, he could say goodbye to his Tommy Bahama swimsuit collection.

  27. Damn it Stepan is too clean cut, i was going to say he’ll sign when the next payment is due on his Ferrari, but he drives a GMC truck he bought for cash and claims he’ll drive it into the ground and buy a new one then!

All he’s missed Weds is physicals etc, but Thurs/Fri the real stuff starts – conditioning and system. Don’t be gone too long Step!

  28. Hey, can we get the “Rangers players” twitter feed cleaned up a little? There are some actual Rangers players in there, distracting me from the endless drone of Brandon Dubinsky and Brandon Prust.
