It’s Go Time! … Game 5: Rangers at Bruins

I’m going way out on a limb here and say this is indeed a Must Win for the Rangers.

Seriously, though, I think this is a pretty big win for the Bruins, too, because if they lose this one then all that negative stuff from Philly in 2010, and from Toronto two weeks ago starts creeping into their minds again. It may have already begun to creep in after the Game 4 loss. Who knows? But I think tonight’s game might say more about the Bruins than it does about the Rangers.

Game 5.bruins logo
Rangers at Bruins.

Every day is a potential last day of the season for ya boys, now.

Looks like the same lineup for the Rangers, which means Micheal Haley and Kris Newbury in for Brad Richards and Arron Asham, and Roman Hamrlik in for Anton Stralman. Darroll Powe skated in warmups but is not expected to play.

Dennis Seidenberg looks to be re-joining the Boston defense, on a pair with Zdeno Chara, which likely means Dougie Hamilton is prucha’d.

Henrik Lundqvist (duh) in goal against the break-dancing Tuukka Rask.

By the way, how did I not compare the speed of the Carl Hagelin back-handed goal to the Mookie Wilson grounder to Bill Buckner?

Carp, back from Delaware just in time for the game. Your goddaughter’s the best!

  28. CTBlueshirt on

Kreider is awfully close to Torts on the bench, almost like he has a leash on him.

  29. I was at that game and I remember the white pom poms the idiot devil fans were waving and feeling sick. Sat upstairs and ran down when Mess score the hat as Devil fans were pouring out. I threw my crushed blue Ranger hat on the ice, really didn’t want to but I thought I would jinx them. Peppy Claude(SP) kicked all the way from the corner to his bench, lol.

  30. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

Come on, Nash, this is why you wanted to be traded….to play in meaningful games.

    Show them what you have….

  31. Why do they need to play music in those arenas? Are fans attending a hockey match or a concert?

  32. Norm Merton on

Good compete level so far, but have to clear our crease better, let the King see the puck.

  33. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Rangers have come to play – their most energetic start of a game this series.

  34. Doubt NBC showed it, but Horton elbowed Nash last faceoff, and Kreider skated right up to him and slashed him on the back of th eleg, and Horton’s been after him ever since.

  35. Pyatt’s hit right after stepan got hit by the puck led to boyle with that great chance. but seriously, what’s with our players and getting hit in the face by the puck??

  36. Kenny Albert Rules! on

No Carp they didn’t show it. They showed Kreider talkin smack to Horton

  37. Norm Merton on

Usually don’t care for fights — overblown supposed effects. But that one bought time for Stepan — like it.

  38. We need Thorton to fight 3 times in the first period so he gets tossed for the game. Newberry is up next. Followed by Haley.

RANGERS are in the BUILDING , fellow boneadians!!!

  40. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

If that had been Richards who got in the face, the rink would have flooded with blood.

  41. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

Classy move by Thornton, throwing a punch at Dorsett while Dorsett’s on his knees.

  42. This game is frustrating enough with without carcillo coverge…fug you Thorton!!!!!!!!

  43. King with no Ring on

SCORE! RANGERS LEAD! Del Zotto with the pass from his own zone, Kreider with the effort in the offensive zone.

  44. CTBlueshirt on

Great chip and chase and taking a hit to make a play by Kreider to start that rush.

  45. Norm Merton on

Del Zotto starts it all by carrying a Bruin on his back coming from behind his own net.

  46. Norm Merton on

Boyle in front of the net. Wish there were no offside rule, keep him there all night.

  47. for some reason Horton has been going after kreider after the play, don’t know why, I imagine to try and get kreider off his game.

  48. Brian Boyle screen the goalie.. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR? Should do that on every PP with Nash and Boyle who are BIG BODIES!

    2 for 3 on last 3 PP’s. We are almost perfect.. :-)

  49. That’s why I said (not the brand), CT. Vibin’

    They’re playing Green Day there?

  50. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

“Del Zotto turns it over” is the second most heard statement regarding Del Zotto. First most is “Del Zotto shoots it wide.”

  51. Norm Merton on

MdD needs to get the shooter — oh, wait, I forgot, we don’t hate him.

  52. Come on guys, dont forget the good plays MDZ has made already. But that was a bad pass!

  53. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Rats! Doodie Jr. is coming to from his nap and Mrs. Machetto is out at the store. C’mon kid, stay down until the end of the period!

  54. Nash is annoying me when he coughs up the puck. His sloppy play will cost us if he doesn’t get his act together!

  55. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

He’s a young player, so I’m willing to give him a pretty long leash. That said, he’s gotta start being consistently better sooner rather than later. Next year is his 5th as a pro. He’s gotta take the next step.

  56. Anyone else detect the historical inaccuracy of that Bacardi ad. Roosevelt was in Cuba in 1898, not 1900. Just sayin’

  57. Ljreina…..that is actually interesting, but WTB does that have to do with my knotted intestines tonight….:)

  58. Watching them play this first period, could someone, ANYONE explain to me what the H-LL was going on with this team in game 3? One of the most PUTRID playoff peformances I have ever seen. They look like a completely different team this period.

  59. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Doodie Jr. now watching with his dad. Doggie Machetto is not as interested, but he’s here.

  60. Soiux-per-man on

1’st period win on the scoreboard….. not so much on the ice!!!

    Rangers STEAL the 1’st period!!!

    1 down 2 to go.

  61. Norm Merton on

Superb by the Rangers pinching D deep, not putting the entire game on Lundqvist’s back. Can’t sit back, certainly not for two entire periods. Moore’s been especially good on the pinch.

  62. Kenny Albert Rules! on

Marchand is such a little you know what. He reminds me of a ….

  63. Extremely good period. Amazing road period, but just as good as if it
were at home. Kreider looks really good. Sadly, MDZ is in over his head.

  64. Hey Norm……Haley with two crushing checks in period already leads Horse Teeth in hits this playoff year 2-0.

  65. Soiux-per-man on

CT – we might need a 3 goal lead for this game, and a 4th to win it.

  66. Kreider’s willingness to take that hit had everything to do with that goal getting scored. Huge.

  67. Awesome period. Time to turn the mute button on. Can’t stand Milbury and Jones. But at least in game we’re saved from Maguire!

  68. We need that effort 2 more periods, then we can go home. Moore, Hammer, Danny, McMonster , Boyle, Haley, the Kreider, n Hank look good.

  69. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

First period recap – Carp? I’m a little worried with Boston’s pressure in the Rangers zone.

Hank stole the 1’st period. Don’t you think?

  70. Coos, maybe like I’ve been saying all year, he sucks. Maloney says Delzaster playing in “panic mode”

  71. Refs ignoring every Bruin infraction, waiting to even up the power play chances. That’s how the Flyers won all those years.

  72. You have to have some sort of PP in the playoffs if your going to advance, maybe just maybe we somewhat fixed it. Wishful thinking maybe.

  73. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Do you think Stepan will come out with a mask to protect his chin.

That was huge gash, just to have it open up again on the face off.

  74. Norm Merton on

Weird, though, that Haley has been credited with 0 hits in the box score.

  75. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Where did the Richards go from last year?

Was he just out of shape from the get go. He is too soft of a player for the 4th line against Boston that’s for sure.

  76. Sioux-per-man… It is amazing how people can watch the same game and have totally different impressions. I thought the Rangers played an excellent road period. I thought they had some good offensive pressure. And of course, Hank was stellar!

  77. Yea Norm. Maloney on the radio broadcast refers to Delzotto’s constant unforced turnovers as playing in “panic mode”

  78. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

NBC did not show the slash.

Horton is going to be a pest. Thorton is a beast. Not sure Dorsett got the best of that fight, but he gets a pat on the back from the coach! That’s got to be good for something.

  79. I’ll take Haley over the Tooth. At lease he serves a purpose and is FASTER.

  80. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Anyone else SICK of these stupid Geico commercials?

    I’ll never buy Geico!

  81. Haley pancaked a Boston forward in the ozone. but Norm, you can keep looking for the hits in the box score, I’ll watch the game action and keep you informed!

  82. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Yev – I don’t like all the pressure Boston is putting on us. They’ve had several more REAL scoring chances. To me they seem to be winning more battles down low.

Let’s see how the 2nd period goes.

But we won it on the scoreboard.

  83. Norm Merton on

Gotta stay out of the box. Another goal Lundqvist will want back. Krug’s got his number.

  84. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Ranger start off strong, but the Bruins score. Alot like the first period, flipped.

  85. I really hate it when people say “this New York Ranger team”. The name of the team is New York Rangers!!!

  86. King with no Ring on

    Norm —

Lundqvist must stop that shot. He was not screened. There was no reason that should have been a goal.

  87. King with no Ring on

An immediate response on this power play would be optimal if the result of this game is to be a win for the Rangers.

  88. >>Our PK is dreadful.

It’s either the power play or the penalty kill. This team rarely operates on all cylinders.

  89. Hey Troll King, you already said the game was over, so spare us any further thoughts.

  90. King with no Ring on

Quit complaining about the officiating. Everything evens out in the end.

  91. reginald dunlopr on

Weak call by kowal after not calling step getting high sticked and nash mugged……officiating still bad

  92. CTBlueshirt on

Would be nice if the Rangers could put together shifts like that more than once a game.

  93. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Yev not the 2nd period is starting to feel like the 1’st period.

Bruins have more riding time in the Rangers zone.

  94. Norm Merton on

Officials have given the Rangers 2 PPs to the Bruins 1 in a game the Bruins are controlling. Don’t expect more than that, quit whining.

  95. I like Torts, but he really doesn’t seem to understand finesse players or play. If it’s not black and blue, it’s beyond him and he manages it into the ground. Goes for his use of Gabby and for his perennial inability to put together a sleek power play. They must hire an offensively minded, finesse-game understanding assistant Coach.

  96. Imagine the state of your life if, on a Saturday night, you are trolling on a blog of a hockey team of which you are not a fan. Think about that for a

  97. Kenny Albert Rules! on

How Lundqvist isnt nominated for the Hart Trophy every year baffles me. Yet Cindy Crosby is out for how long and the Pens are still first?

  98. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

We can’t even clear the zone……gawwwwwwwwwwwwd.

This is getting tough to watch.

  99. King with no Ring on

When is the youth of Krug going to reveal itself in the form of defensive miscues?

  100. Norm Merton on

Czechthemout chewing the furniture, I suspect, as the Rangers continue to try to rim out every clearance, right to a black sweater.

  101. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Del Zotto can’t even hold the puck. Kids having a terrible game.

  102. OK, Sioux-per-man…. Now, I think your analysis is correct. Rangers getting totally outplayed this period!

  103. Kenny Albert Rules! on

Locked myself out of my office again. Alright, i’m going home!!!

  104. Really ashame no Staal, Sauer, Strallman. Delzotto would be sitting next to Richards right now.

  105. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Rangers need a Staal and a couple of Clowe’s if they are going to beat Boston today!!!

  106. Norm Merton on

Shut-out-the-4th-line plan fails. Hamrlik had to get some ice time eventually what with the long surge.

  107. you knew as soon as they started talking about him he was going to make something really bad happen.

  108. It was like Hamrlik was still stunned from the hit. How else do you explain such sucky passes

  109. How can you have the 4th
Line and those two eminger and hamilk out there during long change.

    Fire this clown

  110. Ranger defense is brutal.

    Slow, soft, tired and overmatched.

The Rangers would need two goalies in net to have a chance!

  111. Norm Merton on

Um, your top four D generally are reserved for playing other than the 4th line.

  112. Norm Merton on

A total spanking this period. Bruins’ legs churning, Rangers’ gliding.

  113. Bad, bad penalty!!! Could be the game….. need to keep it at 1 goal to have a shot in the third

  114. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

You think Cally could dial in a shortie for us!!!

    That is what captains do.

  115. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Yev – could you deliver some soup with some NITRO in it for the Rangers???

    They need a boost!

Is Nash going to show up today?????

  116. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

A couple of games ago, I said the Rangers needed to watch shots from the point and the trailer. Goals in this game: from the point and the trailer.

Sometimes, the defensive adjustments ARE that simple.

  117. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

B’s much better than us that period. Rangers not too many quality chances.

  118. Norm Merton on

Kreider hit the Bruins so hard and so many times in that short period that he woke them up. Not his fault, but another example of hitting getting your team fired up about half the time.

  119. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Kern only on the score board. Boston won 13 out of 20 minutes in the 1’st.

  120. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Their second goal should not have happened. Hamr giving it away twice. Uggg

  121. Outhit, outshot, out chanced, but it’s still just a goal. We need that equalizer. Dial it up a notch boys!

  122. Someone explain to me why dorsett seeing a shift with Nash and step end of period.

  123. Sioux-per-man.. Is Nash going to show up today? How about the whole playoffs. Considering how good he was in the regular season, he has been a spectacular dud in the PO season. 1 goal in 11 games and 2 periods? REALLY????????

  124. Norm Merton on

Nash the playoff choker making that choking pass to fellow choker Kreider past the choking Rask in elimination game OT. Choke on that.

  125. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Folks, this is likely the last 20 minutes of our season, so I just wanted to say that I love coming to this place to talk Rangers and g(j)ibberish with all of youse. Even without the benefit of hindsight.

  126. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Looking at the replay, you have to give Krug some credit. Kids been a stick of dynomite. 4 goals in 5 games.

We answer with Hamrlik and Del Zotto. Too old and too confused to help the Rangers.

    Advantage Bruins.

  127. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Yeah Norm! That one play excuses his no show in 9 of the other 10 games!

  128. They need to turn it up 10 notches in the third if they want to have a chance… This is going to be a tough hill to climb. Especially since they start the period on the PK

  129. Onecupin73yearsandcounting on

Hank and hamrlik goes together like bread n butter
Boys are shooting from from the 50 yard line..
The front of the boston net is off limits to NYR

  130. King with no Ring on

The goal from the point by Krug was the type of shot you do not mind. The goalie has a clean view of it and should stop that shot. There are no adjustments for allowing soft goals.

  131. ThisYearsModel on

Hamrlik the Bruins MVP that period. Gilroy could not do batter? Aren’t veterans supposed to be preferred over young players because they don’t do stupid stuff like that? Good Lord, he looked slow and tentative like an ECHL player out there.

  132. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Yev – that’s why I’m calling him out. We need a couple of NASH GOALS/ASSIST to Kreider.

  133. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Did Brassard even dress for this series? Those five awesome games against the Capitals seem like a long time ago. I know he picked up a second assist on Boyle’s PP goal and a first assist on Hagelin’s lucky goal, but neither really were about his play.

  134. Norm Merton on

Anyone who makes it to the NHL, especially to the NHL all-star level, is by definition not a choker. “Choking” accusations are a little man’s envy rising to the surface.

  135. TSN: everbody knows how to play the Rangers. put your third man on the blue line, he won’t be covered.

  136. I refuse to watch these no-talent circus-clowns any longer. Amateur-hour is their middle-name.

    So long.

  137. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

    Game’s not over.

  138. bull dog line on

Kreider needs to be double shifted in the 3rd. if anybody is going to score it will be him. Boyle, for the first time in these playoffs, looks slow out there.

    I wish I was a Wings fan.

Miami Pimp says what every long time rangers Knows in their hearts but is too PC to say

  143. I know you can’t use injuries as an excuse, but how different is this team with Stralman and Staal playing as opposed to emminger/Hamrlik? YIKES!

  144. Czechthemout!!! on

Why would you put Dorsett on Stepan’ s line? This is a strictly a coaching decision. Why would you not continue to play Kreider and Nash?

Why would you play MDZ on the point on any PP?

Why would you, as coach not adjust and allow them to continuously try the stretch pass by each and every dman when it clearly has not worked?

Why would you continue and try to whip the puck around the boards when even a blind man can see the Bruins waiting for the puck each amd every time?

Why would you not try and carry it out of the zone or try to pass it through the middle to players in motion?

This strictly coaching! And it is on Torts and no one else.

  145. For whatever it is worth —— 1972 Finals, Game 5, Rangers trail series 3-1 and are losing 2-1 after two periods…………..and Bobby Rousseau scored a pair and they won.

  148. Wonder if we’d even be watching an elimination game right now if Richards had been benched sooner . . .

    This period could get ugly.

  149. Czechthemout!!! on

Mdz and Hammerlick should never play in a Rangers uniform again after they get eliminated.

  150. Bull Dog, agree on Kreider and Boyle. Need Kreider out there more.

Also, Boyle turned away from a couple of opportunities to crush Bruins on the forecheck.

  151. I wouldn’t call Nash a playoff choker just yet, but he’s certainly been a huge disappointment. He’s done a few good things, but not enough.

He better be injured. That hand better be held together by Elmer’s Glue. That’s all I’ve got to say.

  152. “This period could get ugly.”

I’ve been praying for that since game 3…I wish.

Rational thought: Bruins clearly the better team in the series. Rask and Chara in effect toying with us, preferring to clinch in front of home fans.

Irrational thought: Rangers will put in a no-passengers period, skating themselves silly to the last puff of wind each shift, scoring two.

  155. I don’t mind Girardi on the 2nd unit, but I think moore has more offensive upside Sioux-per-man.

  156. Is there ever a doubt whether or not Delzaster will get the puck out of the zone?

  157. Be nice if MistrSoftie could cut to the slot with the puck once in a while off the rush.

Dorsett can’t be on the ice after this. He almost got an extra 2 for whining.

  162. Nash is as advertised from what I read from Columbus fans. Nash disappears period to period, game to game, reason why I was against trading for him and with that 7.8 cap hit it won’t get any better.

  163. Sioux-per-man 9.0 on

Dorsett send him to the locker room, he’s DONE!!!

Another 2 minuts we will be on defense.

  164. MDZ doesn’t believe in himself. Period. That’s why he flinches. Maybe that can be coached out of him. But it has to be addressed.

  165. Ranger fans really are falling in love with Dorsett.

Nash’s lack of any apparent competitive fire or leadership ability is deeply alarming.

  166. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

MDZ not having a good game, at all. Bad series, really. Bad playoffs, actually.

  167. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Notice how Carp disappeared? He’s writing his game story. He thinks it’s over.

  168. Norm Merton on

Bruins aren’t going to give the Rangers a sniff this period. Tortorella can start planning his 6 v. 5 now.

  169. ORR!! What Is It Good For!!??
    I’d get two for diving…right into them…

  170. Norm Merton on

Shocking Boston let that break happen. Need more mental breakdowns from them. Anyone expecting another?

  171. Norm Merton on

Love it that the Bruins are letting this get loose. Time for NY to hang a cherry-picker.

  172. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Is it too late to just send everyone back to Columbus and get all of our guys back?

  173. Sioux-per-man 7.0 on

    It is Carp.

Boston is twice the team the Ranger are in the playoffs.

Without Clowe or Staal, we just don’t have the size or nasty to keep them in check.

But one goal is all we need!!!

  174. Does Del Zotto do anything right. He needs to go. Weak shot, no D skills, bad outlet passes. His minor offensive showings are not worth his terrible defensive play.

  175. Sioux-per-man 5.0 on

Player better buck up, refs have put the whistles away.

Zuc is determined to get a goal.

    Too bad Nash isn’t.

  176. Still livid over torts having 4th line with eminger and hamilik out in 2nd per on the goal. That’s on the coach.

  177. Norm Merton on

Give the Rangers credit — they’re attacking, not so worried about getting scored on any more. Wish they’d play like that all the time.

  178. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Good thing Nash spent the entire shift floating around in the D zone.

  179. Sioux-per-man 2.0 on

Save made by Lundqvist….. is not going to score any goals for us.

  180. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Rangers look exhausted. Boston looks like it has another gear the Rangers don’t. It’s over.

  181. Sioux-per-man 1.0 on

    Ran out of gas again.

Perhaps we will get 4 lines that can play next year.

  182. Another year gone in Hank’s career. They need offense — real talent, not grinders who can have career years with 20 goals.

  183. King with no Ring on

It is time to bid adieu to Lundqvist once again prior to the Stanley Cup Finals. When you squander leads with soft goals, this is the result.

  184. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Brassard, no rush to play desperate D there. It’s only an empty net with a minute left in the season. Just glide straight legged after the diving Bruin.

  185. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

I turned it off …I can’t stand watching anymore .

  186. Norm Merton on

McD had no legs at all at the end. Overplayed, but no choice, nobody else to go to but Moore. Better team won, though, no complaints. Better team, better coaching, better everything but goaltender, and even that went in their favor.

  187. Trade freeking MisterSoftie. Please. Trade him for Greg Cambell or Thorton OT Paielle.

We are going to live with this loser eating our cap for years.

  188. King with no Ring on

Does Manny think that the Senators had the best chance of defeating the Penguins and that the Rangers had a better chance of defeating the Bruins than the Leafs?

  189. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Jagr had a lot of great chances and was ROBBED by Lundqvist repeatedly. I think he will have a big series against the Pens.

  190. Way too many weak players being carried this year for the rangers, and just plain stupid coaching. You can thank Hank for the small playoff run. Need to weed out the wimps that don’t want to make body contact in a playoff hockey game.

  191. So, in the end, Asham played in fewer matches than Nash, but has more goals? I see!

  192. Sioux-per-man on

Good season for what it’s was worth.

Not a great season, for how high our hopes where at the start of it.

Who thought we would end the season without Gaby and Richards.

Time for Kreider, Miller, & McIlrath to get their chances.

By By Richards, Hamr, Del Zotto. Nice knowing ya.

    I feel for Lundqvist.

  193. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Callahan, great as he was all season, had an absolutely rotten series.

  194. Sather's Wrap-up on

Hello there Ranger Fans!!!! WELCOME BACK! Wait! You didn’t go anywhere. The Rangers were the ones who disappeared. It was nobody’s fault but all of us here are sorry. Truly Sorry. In fact we’re the sorriest bunch of turds in the punch bowl.

But that’s already behind us and your New York Rangers will be back on the ice next season. So buy your tickets early. We’ll try and keep it to a 50% increase, but Dolan wants mahogany and teak wood on his new yacht, “Nixuk”. (We told him it was the name of the Egyptian God of Champions)

Speaking of dopes, I’ve spent over a billion dollars of the Big Guy’s money already without a hint of a championship, and at the end of each season, HE thanks me! What a Maroon!

Just look at that list of UFA’s I signed over the years. It’s a regular Hockey Who’s Through! Wait until you see who I make Queen For A Day this summer! Now, I don’t have any money, I just sign Dolan’s name. You know how to fake his signature? Hit your hand with a hammer and keep writing until the pain stops. That’s how I got a lot of those UFA signings through the front office.

Mess! Hey Messier! Run down there and get me a few of those $19 horse-meat sandwiches. And tell them not to put any of that stinking sauce on them this time! I think that’s what made my prostate end up prostrate.

And just for the record, I was the one that finally benched Richards, not Tortarella. He’d kept playing Richards like he was beating a dead horse. (I think it was the teeth) But I knew in my heart Richards was all done. My first clue? Me giving him a big contract.

Jeez Look at Muck! He gets uglier every day! We had to take him off the Dreams Come True Charity, he was making the blind kids cry. Why, last time he was at the house, the grand-kids pushed his face in some dough and made monster cookies. Even our dog has to close his eyes when he humps his leg. He opened the fridge and all the milk turned into yogurt. Now that’s ugly!

Well anyway, cheer up Ranger Fans, You got your stick salute, don’t be greedy! Next time for sure! I’ll get you a Cup or die trying. My contract is that good.

    Uncle Glennie.

  195. I think the second round was about the best we could have expected.

Hope the new coaching staff has some answers.

Now for a few months of peace before it all starts again.

  196. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Everyone still want a piece of Brassard’s jock? I think he left it in DC.

  197. Boston’s D goes down with injuries and they have NHL-ready kids to step in. Rangers’ D goes down with injuries and we have waiver-wire crap to step in. The difference between the two organizations.

  198. I feel so bad for Henrik. He deserved better. Chris Kreider is a 1st line wing. I sure hope he gets a chance to show that. Gotta hope that Marc Staal heals and that the kids, JT, Fast, Lindberg are the real deal!!

  199. King with no Ring on

The Rangers organization continues to employ Glen Sather.

  200. Good to see bruin fans enjoying what will probably be their last win of the playoffs- or maybe you think Penguins weren’t watching Brian Boyle manhandle the great Krug in the second period tonight. I’m not a basher so I’ll just say- I’ve seen enough of Del Zotto. This was not a poorly refereed game- by NHL standards it was just a normally refereed game.

  201. Norm Merton on

Who on the Rangers had a good series, really? Moore, maybe? Lundqvist, but not in comparison to himself. McDonagh, until he was overplayed.

  202. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Eddie, no offense, but you’ve got some pretty thin skin. Go cry.

  203. Some of you may rationalize losing 4-1 in the 2nd Round as acceptable. Not me. This was one of the most disappointing season I can remember, and I go back a long.

  204. ThisYearsModel on

A meek exit in 5 games by a team that was out gutted and outschemed by Boston. Lundqvist sees his career marching onward with no cup in sight.

  205. Sioux-per-man on

It was a close series, all but one of the games could have gone either way.

  206. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

I thought Hagelin had a good series. Kreider, too. McDonagh and Moore. Boyle and MZA had their moments.

Notice a trend here? All the guys who can skate.

  207. Norm Merton on

4th line a disaster today, but only because Dorsett was on it, I suppose.

  208. And now, as per usual, I bid you adieu for a while…..always read Carp, but can’t handle more depression than I already feel….Fug……LGR!!!

  209. The score is not indicative of how badly the Rangers were outplayed.

No Lundqvist and the Bruins score 6 goals!

Clean house and start with Sappy!

  210. King with no Ring on

Lundqvist contributed to this playoff exit. He deserves no sympathy.

  211. Nash is gonna need a whole lot of time to compose himself before speaking to the press. He’s gotta be completely crushed – he wanted this series so, so badly.

  212. Definitely a game to hold onto, nothing to be ashamed of unlike the first 3 when we were totally outclassed. Young guys can build on it, sure would love to see more Richardless hockey, last two games were kinda fun.

  213. Onecupin74yearsandcounting on

Typical losing DNA.. Bruins kicked their asses in the 70’s and still own them.
Hamrlik signing looks really great Glen ..speaks well of the teams overall LACK organizational depth.

Carp – Another GREAT year for the Blog.

    Nice chatting with everyone.

    There’s always next year.

Who’s not going to be on this team next year.

We need a POWER PLAY that can score, and a 4th line that is going to play 3 periods.

  215. Lundqvist came up big but Boston did not spend eons in our zone. Should be an interesting off season, hope some of the weaknesses are addressed.

  216. CTBlueshirt on

Scoring more than twice in one game all series I think is more telling than 4 of 5 games were 1 goal games.

  217. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

@Nash is gonna need a whole lot of time to compose himself before speaking to the press. He’s gotta be completely crushed – he wanted this series so, so badly.@

  218. I agree with Sioux-Per-man.. Rangers didn’t play good this series, but could have won every game! Even the PUTRID game 3!!

  219. Trautwig and Duguay putting all the blame on Hamr. I get it, he had a horrific shift that led to the winning goal, but it was ONE SHIFT. What about the fact that they were dominated the rest of the game and for most of the series???

  220. I’d like to see this series replayed with all the B’s hurt guys back, and us with Clowe Staalsy and Sauer. We probably still don’t score a lot but maybe don’t give up so much field position andvown zone run around

  221. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Bruins showed they are miles ahead of the Rangers. Lots of dead wood needs clearing – forwards and D.

  222. Onecupin74yearsandcounting on

Carp, if Dolan thinks getting to the 2nd round is a $ucce$$ , shame on the fans for buying into mediocrity

  223. Bmac, what???

Bruins did not spend much time in our zone?

Was the a misprint and you meant the Rangers did not spend much time in the Bruins zone?

  224. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Hey Eddie, do you cry as much as Giacomin did during his return, or are you more of a Messier?

  225. Kern, badly coached, undersized and too many players floating.

Like I said earlier. Your stick checking in an elimination game with a min left in the game. I don’t care if your internally bleeding you take the body all game.

  226. Norm Merton on

Pyatt, yes, was good in his role. This roster, obviously, goes nowhere next year. What a disappointing end to what was going to be at least an attempt to get to the conference final again, perhaps, the final instead. Instead we get a dismantling of the roster, with only Moore to show for it, a good skater but no game-changer. 2013-4 looks like another step down the ladder at the moment — should be an interesting off-season.

  227. bull dog line on

I know there is going to be a lot of negative stuff here in the next few days (some of it from me i’m sure), but I have to say this, I like where they are right now. despite what Doodie thinks, the Gaborik trade was a great one. Kreider, MIller, and Lindberg on the way. they are positioned to be good for a while. they have great leadership on this team. they never quit, never.

  228. So how’s that Nash trade worked for ya? Would still ship home grown core for this soft ice cream? Eh?

  229. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Fat Guy, Sauer is not a Ranger. It’s disingenuous to count him. Might as well say they could bring back Marc Savard.

  230. Duberstein, seriously my man you talk like Sauer and Staaled were Stevens and Robinson!

Neither is a first pair D!!

  231. Game over. Season over. Fire this CLOWN, compliance buyout Richards, and come back with a PP next season.

PS: Remember when all those teams sent representatives to Richards’ agent’s office on 6/1/11 to make their pitches to him and it was all over TSN? LMAO

  232. ThisYearsModel on

This series really ended up as it should have based on talent level and effort. Probably should have been a sweep. Nash shouldn’t be too tired, he only played 17:00 tonight.

  233. CTBlueshirt on

Staal probably makes somewhat of a difference. Sauer should probably not be counted in future plans. Clowe was an absurdly bad trade.

  234. Olga Folkyerself on

So if it isn’t Rangers-Black Hawks final,

Hawks-Bruins would work just as well.

  235. bull dog line on

Clowe was only a bad trade because he got hurt. he is the kind of forward the Rangers have needed for years. it was well worth the gamble.

  236. Norm Merton on

Nash should have been better, but the strategy I suggested — everyone suggested — for the Bruins at the outset of the series: cover Nash and screen Lundqvist, was all that was necessary to beat this anemic line-up.

  237. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Doodie – stick your thumb up your assen and suck on it – doooosh

  238. You guys are definitely right
    What was I thinking
It wouldn’t have mattered at all if we had those guys in the lineup

    Just kidding… You’re nuts

  239. Even if the Rangers were swept. Fans can tell when the coaches and players give 100% to win in the playoffs. We maybe had a couple of players who consistently gave it there all.

That is why there is a lot of disappointment.

  240. Paielle, Cambell, Kelly and Thornton were all UFA’s last summer. We signed Pyatt and Asham.

  241. King with no Ring on

Nash was invisible. Chara did his job well. Lundqvist was just clutch enough to lose this series.

  242. Good series for Moore, Kreider and McDonough….need some more size up front but not as pessimistic as some of you

  243. bull dog line on

Kreider needs to be the number1 LW next season, playing 20 minutes a night. no more BS with him.

  244. I want to take a second to thank CARP and to thank the regulars here. I am much more of a lurker than a participant here. But, I always read the comments and laugh my a– off! You guys are a great and kooky bunch. A group of totally passionate Ranger fans who made the season much more enjoyable.

Last year was devastating. I really thought the Rangers had a good shot at the cup. This year, I am not that upset. They were SO mediocre in the regular season and so up and down in terms of their compete level this play off season. It is not a shock that they are done. Hey, the back to back shut outs and the 5-0 win in game 7 were really thrilling and I thank them for that. They need to go back this summer and do some serious work on the composition of this team.

  245. CTBlueshirt on

In a year where they already didn’t have a first round pick sending over the draft picks they did for Clowe was not a wise move, especially for a guy who was struggling the entire season and can walk at the end of the year. It might make it even worse if he re-signs and the conditional pick they give up is another 2nd in 2014.

  246. clowe was a good trade if the rangers were getting the clowe of 3-5 years ago, same with Richards. Typical sather crap, bringing in has been players, nothing has changed and as long as Dolan owns the rangers nothing will change. It will be the same crap over and over again. Dolan got his 2 rounds of playoffs, he is happy.

  247. If nothing else, Kreider made seidenberg wish he didn’t come back yet. Seid will have those two brands for a few months

  248. bull dog line
Kreider needs to be the number1 LW next season, playing 20 minutes a night. no more BS with him.

Lots and lots and lots and lots and LOTS of internet porn. Oh, and Mom’s

  254. CTBlueshirt on

The worrying part about Nash’s performance was that even if you could attribute getting shut down this series to playing against Chara, what was the excuse against the Caps?

  255. bull dog line on

your worried about 2nd round draft picks? guys who if they are lucky will be Rangers in 4 years. Clowe would have ben perfect for this series. I would re sign him.

  256. I’ll take a healthy clowe for that, but health is the concern. He looked slightly broken last couple of games. A healthy clowe would’ve been a force in this series.

  257. I would not resign clowe and since I wouldn’t resign clowe just like I didn’t want rick nash, I’m sure sather will resign clowe just like he traded for Nash. Nash and clowe will be the new bad contracts for the production the rangers will get out of them.

  258. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

  259. bull dog line on

Nash played soft. I am willing to give him a pass this year. but only 1 pass.

  260. Norm Merton on

Need some positive coaching next season — way too much trying not to lose this time around. Next year’s roster, though, might not allow for that. I still think Lundqvist, in what might be his last year, deserves a look at an open game in which he has more control over the goals he gives up, rather than all those screened and tipped shots he fished out of the net so often this year.

  261. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

Now I can focus all of my energy on the Mets losing 100 games. Yay.

    Have a good summer, all….

  262. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Bull dog is correct. Clowe is the type of player we haven’t had since graves.

  263. Until the NHL adds goals on the boards, the Rangers will never win a Cup with Torts as the coach. To win in the Playoffs, goals need to be scored. Charity points and SO wins make it tough to discern contenders from pretenders in the regular season. Nowhere to hide in the playoffs. The Rangers have had trouble scoring all year, their PP has been even worse, and their PK has been mediocre at best. All the usual suspects came back to kill this team in the playoffs.

As usual, Lundqvist stands on his head only to have no scoring support. Sather will waste Hanks prime years with these piecemeal teams that Torts will grind into the ground and Hank will carry to mediocrity. Just tank already and get some decent picks.

  264. This team is miles softer than last years version with around the same amount of goal scoring! The only reason we got this far is Lundqvist! This team can block shots, no doubt, but can they clear the crease? That’s been a big no since Beukeboom retired! Their power play is a joke, and they don’t know how to get out of their own zone. They don’t have to blow up their roster, but it’s pretty sad that Hamrlik and Eminger were the only bodies they could come up with when Staal and Stralman went down. Look at what Boston had in their system! They played minus 3 of their dmen and you would have never known it. They need to get more balanced scoring from somewhere fast. I’ve said this some 45 times before! “Wait till next year”! Boy do those words sound hollow after awhile. Oh well maybe they’ll find that one diamond in the rough during the draft! I just hope they don’t get another Hugh Jessiman. Have a great summer boys, and girls…

  265. Chicago parrot-announser Olga showed his/her real face calling the worst troll on this blog “brother”. They are -in trolling here.

  266. WOW….
Another year goes by as we all get older watching the blue shirts. I for one like last years group better. It will be another interesting summer with a group of new faces joining. Great job Carp!

  267. bull dog line on

I said that earlier this season. Torts was coaching not to lose. they spend way to much time defending. I know I am in the minority with this, but I think they have a lot more skill then given credit for. the system hinders the skill.

  268. CTBlueshirt on

Yeah draft picks are kind of valuable, because the organizational philosophy of trading for and signing past their prime stars has worked out really well the past 4 decades.

  269. When overbay hit that hr I was positive the rangers would tie the game….instead their desperation point shots kept getting blocked by the forwards three feet in front of them

  270. If the Caps has 1/2 a set of balls, we would of been out last round…Fire Torts…Nash has alot to learn to become a playoff player…he was a ghost..

  271. Torts has his favorites just like Renney did. Del Zotto has no business in the league. He has proven that himself. He let Richards (a supposed leader) play like garbage the whole season, and be a big problem on the PP.

I really am sorry for being 100% honest, but the guy has to go. I have seen maybe 20 minutes of pro hockey played this whole season by the Rangers. They need structure and then confindence will come.

  272. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Last 2 games the rangers PP was better than it was the previous 10. Richards’ removal came to late.

  273. CTBlueshirt on

Having a lack of skill in half of the forward lines and half of the D is what hinders skill.

  274. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

CTB – the rangers haven’t exactly excelled in the drafting department …. So,……

  275. bull dog line on

about draft picks. yes they are valuable, when you are rebuilding. the Rangers are not rebuilding.the Clowe trade was just bad luck.

  276. CTBlueshirt,

This team has skill. Above average skill and one of the best goalies. The problem is weak links. In which the Rangers have a bunch who bring down the other players. Especially in the playoffs. Your only as good as your weakest link.

  277. bull dog line on

Stepan, Cally, Hagelin, Kreider, Nash, Zuk,and Brasard, all skill players.

  279. Hagerstown Md Rgers Fan on

Oh well, the park Rangers could not stop the Yogi Bears from stealing the proverbial picnic basket. Disappointed….AGAIN! No scoring No PP same story different year. We are all used to it by now. Last season was that moment when the cosmos open up and give you a chance and the Rangers said no thanks. I wonder is next season Hanks last with NYR? I hope not but who could blame him if he departed to a team that understands hockey games are won by scoring goals.

  280. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Get real – a lot of weak links… Be it speed, skill, or a lack of physicality…

  281. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

I think the Clowe trade needed to be made. Sadly, he was injured. He has another year or two left in the tank.

  282. Norm Merton on

bdl, I have been pounding the open hockey drum since the day I joined this blog in response to Tortorella’s first Gaborik-bashing early in the year. I called him arrogant at the time and was taken to task for that, perhaps rightly so, by Mr. Carp. The roster they had to start the year was not fitted to his “jam” style of coaching, one that would work just fine with the Bruins, ironically. Then Gabby was gone for “depth”, meaning depth of mediocrity, and the team ended up where we saw them in this series, utterly dominated by a team that was taken to 7 by the Leaves and lucky to get by. Now it’s a roster where this town ain’t big enough for both of us, Tortorella and Nash, and if Tortorella stays, I hope Sather will give him the starless Bruins line-up he can work with, by trading Nash, Del Zotto and whoever else can’t play like Brad Marchand.

  283. bull dog line on

what younger assets did they throw away? they actually got younger at the deadline

  284. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Weak links – Pyatt, MDZ, Zucchini, hammer, Eminger, Boyle, gilroy, Halpern (gone) for starters….

  285. Johnnyboy

and that is exactly what they did with the draft picks they traded for Clowe. it added depth to the NHL team. it is only a bad trade right now, because he got hurt.

  293. Norm,
The team wins this series with Gabby?.. That’s laughable. Gabby proved he is just another fair weather Russian.
Ya, you called it, if only Sather would listen to Norm we would win the Cup! This blog is filled with loud mouth know it alls like yourself that have the winning formula, if only Sather would listen to them. There is a reason your on Carps blog and not coaching an NHL team.

  294. Clowe with 2 concusions in 3 weeks. Moving forward. That’s pretty high risk.

  295. CTBlueshirt on

Fat guy they lost one because a guy who’s no longer with the team scored a hat trick and they lost the other because of a game deciding format that’s not used in the post season.

  296. Just wow.

Yes next season stiffness will solve everything. Please fire this clown.

  297. Doesn’t matter how effective we grow or play in the near future
The rangers will not have a chance to come out of the east until the pens jump the shark

  298. CTBlueshirt on

Well you can argue the hypothetical that Clowe would have made a difference if he had been healthy, I’ll argue that he wouldn’t have done much because he’s not exactly fleet of foot and he probably wouldn’t have solved the Rangers having issues with coverage of the points and the trailer coming in off the rush.

The reality is he got injured and is a risky signing if they choose to bring him back.

  299. MisterSoftie. Bad combo of Half a heart with Tiny Balls.

Stays Away from the high risk areas on the ice, rarely the first guy in a corner to battle for a puck.

Bad pick up considering the invisible play in the PO and the massive Cap Hit in the future.

    Unload him if you can.

  300. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Brassard led the rangers in scoring. He is a good kid. Is he perfect? Far from it. But he has skill. I think he’ll have a good season and should be the PP QB next year.

  301. Your leading the parade Norm, keep filling us in with your GM/Coaching knowledge.

  302. Norm Merton on

That’s “You’re”, not “Your”. Get back to me when you graduate from hi skool.

  303. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

CTB – Clowe is never afraid to park in the crease. Something the rangers rarely did all year and with few exceptions (Boyle) did during the playoffs.

  304. You have to give clowe some credit. Even during his injuries he did park himself in the crease, defended our players, and fought. He is definitely a graves type, but the big question in health. He can’t do anything unhealthy.

  305. Norm Merton on

Clowe has heart, no doubt about it, and he was a good combination of toughness and skill, but it’s no surprise SJ unloaded him for nothing. He appears to have lost a step, and it’s no surprise his goals dried up this year. He would be a classic past-his-prime Rangers signing — hope they don’t do it.

  306. Graves was a 1st line power left winger on a team that won the Stanley Cup. in fact he won 2 Stanley Cups. Clowe = Graves? Please. Give me some of what you’re smoking.

  307. CTBlueshirt on

The puck has to get toward the net in the first place, something the Rangers had big issues with this series. I don’t think Clowe especially helps with the puck movement and the transition game.

Would I be ok with him if they didn’t already have somebody like Pyatt? Probably, but the Rangers certainly need to get faster, especially if they want to open things up.

Look how quickly Graves started to decline after 30 due to the wear and tear on his body. I’d suspect Clowe follows a similar trajectory.

  308. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

That goal Clowe scored against Buffalo with a couple of seconds left on the clock in the first period tell you all you need to know – how many other players would have simply turned and skated off with just a tick and a tock left.

Youtube the clip when, as a shark, Clowe jumped the boards after one of the Hawks drove Pavelski into the boards near the end of the period. The dude has big balls on a team that doesn’t have much.,,,

Clowe averages more pts. Per game in his career than Gabby – he is a clutch performer. I’ve watched him out here for years. If healthy, he is the real deal.

  309. bull dog line on

I think Clowe was called a Graves type player. which he is. don’t think anybody said he was as good as Graves.

  310. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

    During the playoffs that is….

Papa – graves didnt score in the finals till game 7. What I was saying is Clowe is the first player they’ve had that is like graves….maybe you need to stop smoking and read what I wrote…

  311. Since when does Graves type mean Graves. He has quality’s of Graves. He obviously isn’t Graves.

Though Clowe does seem like a guy that would exel the longer he stayed with the organization and grow close to the players.

He’s got the protection gene. Though it is a gamble to resign him.

  312. bull dog line on

guys like Clowe were hurt by not having a training camp. I would love to see him with a full camp with the Rangers. I will go one more. I would give Richards another shot. he will have an awful lot to prove, and will be very motivated. I know its a gamble because of injury and the buyout rules, but I would take a shot.

  313. Better team won. Staal and Clowe would have helped enormously. But the size and push and purpose throughout Boston’s lineup was impressive and dispositive.

  314. CTBlueshirt on

Pyatt isn’t, but he’s already here and they don’t need to clog up their top 9 with slow skating guys.

If they get Clowe on a one year deal then he can be a stop gap in the top 9 in case guys like Miller, Fast and Lindberg aren’t ready. And given what we saw with Kreider not being ready to jump right in this year it wouldn’t be a terrible move. A multiyear deal for him though is pretty risky. As Carp said about Fedotenko, he’s a guy you want to cut ties with a year too early rather than a year too late.

  315. A master of the English language AND a GM/Coach. We are in the presence of greatness.

Clowe needs to be resigned, might be a step slower but is still faster than Pyatt.

  316. Olga Folkyerself on

I would deep six Richards only because of his contract. Clowe? depends on what he wants. But I would fire Sather and let the next guy sort it all out.

  317. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Bulldog – I disagree re: Richards ….too much money…. He is slower than Pyatt and that is nearly impossible.

  318. bull dog line on

I did not mind Pyatt once he was put in his proper role. that being a 3/4th line player. it was when he was used as a top 6 player, and on the PP that I did not like him. but if given a choice between Pyatt, and Clowe, well that is a no brainer. in Clowe’s favor.

  319. bull dog line on

I understand, I just think he is going to very motivated, and probably in much better shape. my heart would not be broken if they buy him out.

  320. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Clowe’s noodle really must heal completely and how do you even protect against that. Amazing that Crosby has had no lingering effect from his concussions, but he did have a lot of time away…. Is the summer enough time for him to heal?

  321. bull dog

Agree that a good argument can be made to re-sign Clowe.

Completely disagree on #19. I like the guy, but at that price? If he could skate at all? He cannot skate. At $7M per, you are in the stratosphere of NHL salaries, and if you aren’t Crosby or Stamkos, forget it. I wish him
well, but the NYR won’t win anything with Richards on the roster.

  322. I think Boston’s goal tending will triumph over the Pens’ …that is part of their defense, no? Vokoun has been their mainstay, Fleury has been benched. Not sure Vokoun can carry the Pens the rest of the way…like the Ranger core for next year…will be interesting to see if they give Brad another chance. The consensus says buyout, but I have an inkling that they mnay wait to see how he performs in a full season…also, be interesting to see if Staal and Sauer return, which would give the Rangers a solid D going forward. Thought Del Zotto played a nice game today.

  323. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Bull dog – I hear you. We are on the same page on nearly everything else…

  324. Yea seriously tough call with Richards. With the amount he is getting paid. He should be a top contributer, and I have serious doubts that he can contribute well after a year like this.

  325. CTBlueshirt on

Ok so if you re-sign Clowe then the team looks committed to having a forward depth chart that looks like:

    LW: Kreider, Hagelin, Clowe, Pyatt
C: Stepan, Brassard, Miller(?), Boyle (assuming Richards buyout)
    RW: Callahan, Zucc, ?, Dorsett

potential extras: Asham, Powe, Lindberg, Fast

  326. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Boston can beat the pens. The west may wind up destroying each other before the finals even begin.

    Re: Richards – I’d send him away…

  327. CTBlueshirt on

Toews finally starting to catch up to Asham in the playoff scoring race.

  328. Cross Check Charlie on

Sad to see the season end thanks to Roman Hamrlik. Holy moly, what in the world was he doing out there? It’ll be interesting to see what the Rangers do in the off season especially in regard to Richards, Clowe, Zucc and whether they try to acquire a forward that can actually score every now and then.

  329. bull dog line on

you left out Nash, or did you use invisible ink for him as a tribute for his playoff performance?

  330. Olga Folkyerself on

    LW: Kreider, Hagelin, Clowe, Pyatt
C: Stepan, Brassard, Miller(?), Boyle (assuming Richards buyout)
    RW: Callahan, Zucc, ?, Dorsett

potential extras: Asham, Powe, Lindberg, Fast

I don’t see Stanley Cup coming out of that bunch.

  331. the pens will be able to do things to the Bs that the rangers couldn’t, especially at the Bs blue line and tic tac toeing the puck out of their own zone

  332. Norm Merton on

Johnnyboy, I admire you’re pluck — any other idiot would have slunk off after calling Gaborik a fair-weather Russian, but not you. Yet another round of I Know You Are But What Am I? In any event, I’m just spouting my useless opinion here like everyone else. It’s more or less the point of the place. And I have mocked my pseudo-GM non-talents here many a time, so not to worry.

  333. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

CTB – I think Asham won’t be back. Is Pyatt already signed? I could see him not returning as well…

  334. Wildplaces, MDZ played a nice game today?

He was benched for the last 8 minutes of the 1st Period.

Dave Maloney described him as playing in “panic mode” .

He coughed the puck up over and over again.

He made horrendous coverage reads in the DZone.

But other than that, I guess he was okay ;)

  335. Yea exactly Cross Check Charlie. Three lazy plays on one shift all leading to the end of our season. Would have stung less if it was a legit goal.

  336. CTBlueshirt on

whether they try to acquire a forward that can actually score every now and then.

Is there another disgruntled star forward that can lower his trading asking price by exercising his NTC and/or are we interested in seeing the Rangers not draft in the early rounds for the next couple of years?

  337. Eddie 3

Agree wholeheartedly with your post that BOS can beat PIT, and that
the West entry in the Finals may well be battered.

  338. Cross Check Charlie on

Now I know why Dorsett once led the league in penalty minutes – not because he’s so tough, but because he so dumb. He took too many dumb penalties for what little ice time he got.

  339. If you saying Del Zotto had a good game and a decent season. You have to reavaluate your idea of what is expected of defensemen in the NHL today. He was below average all year and at times horrendous.

  340. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Stemmer – SJ/LA is the best series I’ve seen in years. And it has been a war.

  341. Norm Merton on

Curious about Clowe — I’m assuming he’s merely a free-agent like any other now, that he’s no longer on the roster? If we’re stuck with him, then, sure, why not have him in camp. Otherwise, he’d have to be pretty low on the list of reliable options in his price range, no? Richards you could keep at the difference between contract and buy-out, but surely neither party has an interest in that by now. And to think he scored the first Rangers goal this year, against the Bruins.

  342. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

The Bruins were beyond lucky to escape the leafs series – but they absolutely strangled the rangers.

  343. yeah but know they’ll have to defend a lot more and spend more time in their own zone chasing guys who actually have dangerous options in front of the net

  344. Fat guy. I agree. Pit beats Boston like Boston beat us. Bad match-up for Bruins

  345. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

The goalie position will ultimately be the death knell for the pens. Boston in 6.

  346. Ok, Papa, but everytime I turned the game on he was doing ok and evading the Boston forwards, I just missed all his gaffes for some odd reason. Well, at least not for lack of trying…he is a streaky D-man.
