Game 6: Rangers-Capitals in review

472

OK. So for the third time in four playoff series, and in the span of 13 months, your Rangers are headed to another heart-attack Game 7 for you.

Take out the Pepto or the adult beverage or whatever helps you get through these games.

Thoughts:

1) I think I told you guys how much I loved that deadline deai with Columbus, didn’t I? No? OK, well, I did say earlier in the series that Derick Brassard might sway my opinion of the trade, and so far he certainly has. Plus, you’ve got to love a kid having so much fun that he admitted he shot the puck on the game’s only goal because the crowd had been chanting “Shoot the puck” and he actually thought to himself that he couldn’t pass it. Hahaha. Good for him. I think some fans might even like him better than the last No. 16.

2) And speaking of that trade, you know that I think John Moore can be the tipping point with all that upside, but how about Derek Dorsett? He’s taken some penalties, but he sure has drawn a few – three last night, including when he took a run at Carl Alzner and scared him into shooting the puck over the glass. He was cheap-shotted by Joel Ward. I have to say that the Capitals were correct in complaining that he slew-footed Mike Green in the third, but A) Green can’t retaliate there with his team down a goal late and B) Green should have gotten four minutes because his stick opened cuts on Dorsett’s top lip and bottom lip. Blood is supposed to be an automatic four-minute call.

3) Speaking of all that, this was a nasty game, and Ryan Callahan got away with an elbow to the head of Jack Hillen, who was also caught for retaliating, and Callahan for all six games has had a war with John Erskine. They’re killing each other. I do think the Captain needs to shoot the puck on net once in a while though.

4) The little melee at the end was kinda fun. Reminded me of the 2011-12 Rangers a little bit. Outnumbered six against five, they didn’t mind participating at all, and Derek Stepan lost a chicklet. That’ll be a good Game 7 look, IMO. All the while, Henrik Lundqvist was celebrating.

5) And he should have been celebrating because he was really in a bad emotional way after Game 5, after dropping two games in D.C. in which he allowed a combined one goal in regulation. Man was he good in Game 6. Just huge. Gotta say, too, that despite a few shaky moments, Braden Holtby was really tested this time, and probably played his best game of the series.

6) Rick Nash. It’s OK to still be annoyed that he hasn’t scored, and not accept anything other than some production. But the guy was involved in Game 6, had some chances, and after doing that forehand-backhand thing for five-plus games (which sure make it look like that left wrist is worse than we know), he finally had a really good forehand wrister. And he had a hand in the GWG with his backside in Holtby’s grill. I don’t think he’s dogged it, and I don’t think he’s been easy to defend. He just hasn’t been able to score. None of that forgives him, because he has to score. But let’s get it right about his effort.

7) That 5-on-3. I have no words. Brad Richards wasn’t on it. So Mats Zuccarello did his Richards impression and missed the net – you can’t do that – and committed a turnover. That all said, I thought The Little Italian Kid from Norway was really good again, very solid. But the PP very nearly cost them yet another game (2 for 26 in a series in which every game could have gone either way).

8) A lot of people were good, actually, including the two blog favorite whipping boys, Brian Boyle – who was tough as heck – and a very physical and mostly reliable Michael Del Zotto.

9) Josh, 26, brought this up pregame. If somebody told you that there’d be a Chris Kreider-Brad Richards-Arron Asham line in Game 6 of the playoffs, your reaction would probably be, “Wow, Asham must have had a great season.”

10) Chris Kreider. Again, I thought he was fine in that role. He had one early and relatively minor gaffe, and his line was pinned for one long shift (not his fault). But he didn’t do anything that says he should come out of the lineup … though I assume in a tight Game 7, he and his two new linemates aren’t going out there a lot. I wouldn’t send them out, at least.

11) What piles of cooke the NHL keeps shoveling on its fans. These Games 6 and 7 on back-to-back nights should NEVER EVER happen, and there’s no reason for them to happen whatsoever. None. So the Stanley Cup final ends a day later? So NBC maybe doesn’t get its No. 1 priority series next weekend? Tough cooke. This is disgraceful – how many times have we used that word with the NHL since Sept. 15? You heard about Boston, right? The B’s plane broke down, so they had to stay in Toronto overnight. So the Maple Leaves were in Boston resting up while the Bruins were flying home today. Then the remaining teams might have to have to open the next round their third game in four nights? How is that possibly good for anybody, the fans, the teams, the game?

12) Gee, despite what I’ve been reading and hearing on the radio up to this point, even at 0-0 in Game 6, it sure didn’t look to me like a team that had quit on its clueless coach. Oh, right, they’re doing it despite him. I forgot. Guess he gets one more game.

They won despite the non existent PP.. and by staying out of the box..

Usually in the playoffs your flaws come back to haunt you.. they better score on the PP or its golf Tuesday.

  2. Roughing penalties….does that preclude a third (and in this case a 4th) man in situation…hope this little bit of extra fire manifests itself in a Ranger’s victory blowout!

  3. Sioux-per-man on

    It’s a Power Play Goal. . . NOT!

But that was one H$ll of a game.

All bets are off today. We have a 50/50 chance at winning this thing. I didn’t want to see a game 7 in Washington. But it’s better than the alternative.

Richards & Kreider should be well rested. Did they get a shift in the third last night???

In Hank we Trust! Can he steal game 7?

I’ll forgive Nash, Richards, & the power play if any of them get the game winning goal tonight!!!

  4. Sioux-per-man on

Cally Richards Nash & Kreider all get a goal tonight!

What would you do for a four goal game tonight?

Can’t sleep I’m so excited for tonight’s game!!!

  5. Sioux-per-man on

I thought Zucc played one H$ll of a game last night to bad Richards had to block his shot on wide open net!!! But we won so ill let it go.

    Is it game time yet?

  6. Norm Merton on

These game thoughts are better than coffee — there, I’ve said it. Surprised there was no mention of Pyatt’s great first period and his good stick in his own slot. Another solid effort by him.

Also surprised Asham got so few minutes, but once the Rangers went into the the d-shell, I guess he doesn’t fit there. Hope he’s OK, though.

I, too, am coming around on the trade, though time will tell. There are times out there I think Gaborik is sorely missed, and nice to see he still feels the connection to his former team.

OK – Time for bad sports cliches

    They’re still very much alive.
    They’re still in the mix.
They’re peaking at the right time.
They have to remember what got them here.
    They’ve been here before.
    They control their own destiny.
In the playoffs anything can happen.
Hopefully they can steal one on the road.
They need to get a win in their building.
They have to do the things they’ve been doing all season.
It doesn’t matter who they play in the next round.
They’ve battled back from the brink of elimination.
    It’s do or die.
    They’re in a must-win situation.
They need a win to stave off elimination.
This is for all the marbles.
    There’s no tomorrow.
If you lose, you go home.
They’ve got their backs against the wall.

Did I get most of them – now go and win!

    LETS GO RANGERS!!!!

  8. Stranger Nation on

Please MOORE MOORE on PP – they games where he played the point the PP worked. Having Zuc or Richards or Step or even Girardi on pt is not effective.
Put MOORE and STRALMAN on pts – best to offensive Dmen
    Forward – Zuc, Bros-hard, Cally

AND NO BOYLE ON PP – PLEASE!!!!

  9. Sioux-per-man on

Carp – nice tweet from Gaby’ don’t ya think? Class act. Got me thinking . . . If he played over half the games this year for the Rangers which he did. When the Rangers win the Stanley Cup this year, which they will, does Gaby’s name go on the cup?

  10. Like dorsett, although he should forget about diving. He draws enough penalties as is.

  11. For all the Caps’ kvetching about the retaliation penalty on Green, I guess they were all ok with the Ribiero/Boyle sequence in Game 5, right?

  12. Stranger Nation on

GWG Bros-hard – primary assist Moore and secondary assist Zucc

None of those guys were here on March 15

  13. Carp, great review as always, thank you! Agree that Boyle was a beast last night as was my boy #4. Another HM has to be Stralman who was very good last night. I believe he laid a huge hit on Chimera.
Another Game 7…don’t know how much more agita I can take. But it was fun last night.
    LGR!!!!!!!!

  14. Admiral Akbar on

Whichever happens in this game and in these playoffs, the Rangers must fix that wretched bloody power play. I don’t know if its going to require adding personnel or adjusting philosophy, but it has to change.

  15. LGR TONIGHT!!!!!! I’m betting on the king and the captain to guide us…and Mr scrappy dorsett

  16. Admiral Akbar on

Stralman also made two beautiful plays to break up Washington’s attack and gently clear the puck without icing late in the game. Stralman is an unsung hero from last night, and in a good number of games these playoffs and past 2 seasons.

    Another excellent Sather acquisition.

  17. Admiral Akbar on

Don’t forget, Brassard, dc62, he is the entire offense for this team!

  18. Stranger Nation on

Admiral – Stralman has been very effective moving puck out of zone and should be getting PP time

  19. First off great review and game. Everyone was engaged and played with the necessary fire. All the while keeping their emotions under control. However, I just want to make a point of how the good majority of people on this blog thought the Rangers could never play a run and gun style because they a.) don’t have the gas b.) don’t possess the defensive awareness. c.) will get killed on the scoreboard.
I don’t know about most of you, but that second period looked pretty run and gunnish to me and they handled it very well. In fact, they dictated the style and pace of that period and dominated. Yeah some passes were missed, and things were not as crisp, but it worked and they drew penalties and didn’t take any. Hmmm… I thought we didn’t have the personnel to handle that type of system?

  20. wow sitting in my seat yesterday was as nerve wracking as it gets. kudos to my wife for allowing me to go on mothers day. it is never pretty with this team and NEVER will be. boyle played srong brassard is loving the momenet and hank is all world.

the pp is 2 for 26 in series and is a utter disgrace. that said it failed all series and we are in a game 7. if by some miracle they got one tonight and we win this could all be forgotten.

    that said some tidbits

rangers all time 0 and 5 on road in game 7

lost 10 of last 11 at verizon center in playoffs

rangers 26 pp caps 10 in series- something tells me tonight we are going to have to kill 2 pp in first 10 mins. i think our pk is the key tonight it has to be.

hey this is what we live for as fans. game 7 win or go home. how anyone can work sleep today is beyond me.

i need a xanex right now

  21. Omg on the way to dc with a bus full of 8th graders. God help us if we don’t win tonight. The hockey guys have their ranger stuff on already. Do it!!! Lets go rangers! Why not us?

  22. Anyone expect us to have another 5-0 advantage on the Power Play tonight? I do…it’s been that way since Game 3….

If we lose, we cant blame it on the refs…thats for damn sure.

  23. Norm Merton on

Just watched the Dorsett-Green business –http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ8-srUy0Vk — and I have to say that while I thought Dorsett embellished the hit to the face, I did not see a slew-foot at all. To me, that’s Green effectively shedding a guy trying to get around him by knocking him on his butt. Dorsett’s legs come up as a result, and then Green overreacts. At the point of contact, it’s shoulder to shoulder and Dorsett’s left leg is way back — no way Dorsett is trying to send himself into the boards that dangerously.

  24. Said it yesterday, they’d find a way to win just to give us false hope and tear our hearts out this evening. Unfortunately the gut is Sticking to that prediction.

  25. Channeling my inner Joan Rivers, can we talk?

Is there anyone at this point that doesn’t concur that without the goalie this roster is simply average?

Scoring non existent, inability to finish around the net, inability to put the puck on net especially from the D, and perhaps one of the worst PP’s in history!

May the house and tribe of Lundqvist prosper and grow, without whom there are no playoffs!

  26. What a game! It’s hard to see them come out and do it again w/ no day off …. Good thing TOR-BOS is also going seven.

  27. my problem with tonight is this.

we had a chance to steal game 2 and game 5 and failed. the question is will we have another shot in a game 7. again i dont see the caps not getting a few pp early after 0 pp yesterday.

  28. Regarding the Slew Foot: Some irony here with the Caps whining ad-nauseam after the game. Wasn’t the term “Slew Foot” coined in honor of an all-time Cap sleaze-bucket filthy dirty villain named Dale Hunter?

*Re: Dorsetts Alleged Slew Foot:*. (IMHO) didn’t happen. Incidental contact resulting from a hockey play during which competing players are engaged in mutaul and legal contact.

Lacking intent, there is no foul on the play. The play itself was similar in culpability to a non-call on an opposition forward losing his edge and balance while on the rush and crashing into the goaltender.

My understanding of Slew footing: when a player from behind, *intentionally* sweeps the legs of an opponent with his own legs while pulling or flipping the opposition player backwards from above the waist.

Engaged in mutual contact, Dorsett, while trying to get around Green towards the puck, clearly lost his balance and control. He fell backward with such force he went airborne and BOTH his skates flew out from under him. As he was falling to the ice, he unintentionally kicked out the leg of Green causing him to fall as well. In most slew-foots I’ve seen penalized, the player committing the infraction usually remains on his skates through the duration of the foul and may or may not fall on top of the opposing player at the conclusion of the play.

This play IMO, lacked intent by Dorsett and was more akin to a forward on the rush and in legal contact with an opponent, losing his edge and accidentally and without control crashing into the goaltender.

Unfortunate results of an a otherwise legal hockey play.

  29. If Stepan lost a tooth in the melee then that continues the streak of “teams that loose teeth win” in this years playoffs.

  30. I don’t think Dorsett slew-footed Green(e) either. I think it’s just incidental contact from Dorsett attempting to pin Green(e) against the boards for the ensuing puck battle.

  31. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

I’m surprised Dorsett didn’t lose any teeth from Green Cross-check across the face. HOW is that not 4 minutes, when there’s blood, doesn’t it double automatically?

That has to be one of the dirtiest plays ever, and should have more than a 2 minute penalty.

  32. Gravy, Just Gravy on

Any word on Green? He looked a little messed up at the end of the game.

  33. Approaching half century of watching and loving this team, I am at a point where I find it very difficult to accept a lack of tangible production from another acquired underachieving superstar, this one a former overall number 1 pick who is being paid as a top 5 player in the league. Honestly, I’m really trying hard but failing miserably. I just can’t optimistically rationalize his inept contribution by accepting that he is trying may not be “dogging” it.

In fact, I really hope that he is hurt because if he’s not during this series he has shown that, pound for pound, he may in fact be one of the softest players on this team.

IMO, Nash needs to look within, find some courage, heart and determination and play a game tonight which is up to his skill and capabilities. After watching the first 6, unfortunately, I don’t see it happening. I really hope he surprises me.

Lets Go Rangers! Lets Go Nash!

  34. I’m sure Green is taking the day to himself to work on one of his vintage scooters, spike his hair and wear socks and sandals out to the store. He’s such a baby.

  35. Gravy, Just Gravy on

Can we just say Dorsett could have gotten 2 and Green could have gotten 4, and that the net result was the same anyway?

  36. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Manny – He should be well rested for tonights game.

Do you think he could summon the Conn Smythe Brad Richards for ONE game – tonight?

  37. Nash must be feeling the effects from something….wrist, groin,, both….even if we advance and he fails to produce we need another playoff season to see if we have another Dave Winfield on our hands.

  38. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

    I feel your Pain Papa!

You would think Torts would yell at him like he did to Gaby in the 24/7 clip.

“Nash – can you LEAN on one before this series is over!!!”

  39. I think Brad can summon Mr. Lucky/Clutch for about 2 minutes and that is all we need. Just one PP where he goes down low and makes a nice pass or banks one in off an unsuspecting defender.

How about that bounce off the ledge last night that landed right in front of Holtby?

  40. Also, Caps fan thinks there are no 8:00 start times after round one. I always knew they were bandwagon fans who don’t watch the Finals.

Ah, Richards on the fourth line, less than ten minutes on ice, yum yum mmmm

  41. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Spidy – they are band wagon fans in DC. Who cares what they write.

Seriously – why is this place such a tough place to win lately. All of a sudden it’s the Bell Center in Montreal.

    I don’t get it.

  42. That’s an awesome find, Spiderpig. Caps fans are among the dumber fans. Sorry to say. I do know one great one though. But the rest are bandwagon brats.

  43. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Manny – I’d be fine with another bank off the back boards, off the skate of the goalie and in!!!

I would forgive his entire “series” if he would get the GAME WINNING GOAL tongiht!

  44. If Delzotto and Strallman play tonight with the effort, grit and focus they played with yesterday, and everyone else plays within their capabilities, we can win this game and advance.

If DelZotto and/or Stralman have an off-night, and everyone else plays within their capabilities, well……probably not so good.

Lets Go Rangers! Lets Go Delzotto and Strallman.

  45. Gravy, Just Gravy on

Wouldn’t be surprised if Nash has wrist and lower body (from the missed check a few games back) injuries. But, let’s be fair…Ovechkin is in the same boat here with production. So, isn’t it possible that both teams are just keying on the others biggest threats?

And I know you have to fight through it, but maybe Nash is learning the battle level that it takes. I mean, he was a weak Blue Jackets team against a powerhouse Detroit team…not sure what experience that gave him. It would be nice for Nash to pop a few in, but he’s far from the only top player to be struggling to score this year.

  46. Gravy, Just Gravy on

And let’s not forget that Nash carried the team for a long stretch during the regular season when Gabchards was nowhere to be found, and they probably wouldn’t even be in the playoffs without him.

  47. Rob in Beantown on

Anybody else think the Caps are going to get some early PPs tonight after not getting any yesterday? I have a feeling the Rangers are going to have to weather that storm early on– hopefully not too much damage done. Handshakes tonight… ugh

  48. Gravy, Just Gravy on

I expect the Caps to come out fired up at home, especially after how yesterday’s game ended. The Rangers will have to weather the early storm.

  49. Gravy, I hear ya.

Tough to compare Nash with Ovie though. Just ask Girardi.

Ovie presence is felt on the ice. Not so much Nash.

Hank has made some incredible saves on Ovie.

Nash is struggling to get his shot.

  50. Despite me being one of the biggest Nash critics, he really started to find his game yesterday. He’s not there yet, but I think he’s started to get the point that there is less room on the ice and he needs to stop forcing it with the puck. He seemed to go more towards the front of the net yesterday rather than try to get the puck on the side boards and force a move or play that wasn’t there and turn it over (which he did a few times in the 1st).

As long as he simplifies his game and tries to find that open ice by moving to different spots, he’ll start to get on the scoresheet. That’s why Jagr used to go “missing” in parts of games because he would cruise a bit and then when the chance was there he’d jump all over it. Hopefully Nash learns to do that.

As for the PP, I thought the 1st one was great. They had chances, moved around, and overall with Brassard and Zucc running the show, they looked great, just couldn’t get a goal.

But with puck movement like that, it’ll start to go in at some point. The Bruins powerplay has the same problem, but as long as you get chances and move the puck you tire the other team out and eventually get a big PP goal. That second unit was brutal though.

  51. Rob – Caps didn’t get any because they weren’t moving their feet. They’ll get a few tonight because they seem to skate and play much better at home. But there won’t be any make up calls for yesterday.

  52. Rob in Beantown on

Well, my Boneheads bracket is completely shot because I had the Ducks winning. Now the only thing I have left to cheer for are the stupid Rangers

  53. Gravy, Just Gravy on

Agreed Papa. Ovie has been the better player this series, and you take him over Nash 100 out of 100. But, Nash would be getting the same grief, even if Holtby had robbed him a few times in this series.

Can I honestly be expected to work today?

  54. I watched the replay of OV’s backhand miss again and it seems like Henrik made contact with his stick right before he attempted the shot. Anyone else notice that?

  55. Holtby played very well yesterday. however, Through the course of this series, it seems like Holtby has more difficulty with shots coming off the left wing side of the ice. Anyone else see that?

  56. Jonny, I think you’re right with no make-up calls. I hope the let them play. I’ll sign on for zero penalties, let them play :)

Lets Go Rangers! Let Everything Go Refs!

  57. My critique of Holtby is that he plays the net much wider than it actually is. He slides for saves where the shot is going wide. Thus, once you get him moving side to side you can get a wide open net to shoot at. Also, he handles the puck like an idiot.

  58. Latona – think it was mentioned in one of the recaps i read. Said he poke checked just as Ovie was coming through on the shot and put him off. Yet another great play from the King

  59. Lats, I thought he may have nicked it. Even so, Ovie needs to take a second more and bury that puck. He probably had nightmares on that one.

  60. 1am start is going to kill me tonight! Even if Nash doesnt win the game for us its his job to occupy the Caps shutwon pair and open the ice for others. Looks to have difficulty getting his shot off at the moment, not sure if its intensity of checking he’s facing or if he’s carrying an injury thats hampering him getting the shot off – bad wrist? shoulder?

  61. Three more periods for Tortorella as coach? Or can they win this one and give him at least 12 more?

    Either way it’s exciting.

  62. Rob in Beantown on

Tortorella isn’t getting fired… But go ahead and keep rooting against the Rangers anyway

  63. Gravy, Just Gravy on

    Thanks Papa….err, my boss!

FYI, I didn’t shave today. I shaved Friday, loss. Didn’t shave yesterday, win.

  64. Torts is going nowhere. If they’d have lost in 4 or 5 games maybe his job would be in jeopardy .

    Richards on the other hand……

  65. Gravy, Just Gravy on

This team has a funny way of showing they won’t play for Tort(s) BS.

  66. BTW, do we still have a few of the boneheads who think that Doc Emrick has a vendetta against the Rangers or is everyone past that yet?

  67. Cross Check Charlie on

That picture at the top is hilarious. All the players in a scrum and in the background is a banner that says “Grab some buds”

  68. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

    Carp – No Trolls today!!!

No Islander recap after a Ranger win on MSG.

They are done stick a fork in them.

    Ranger win. TONIGHT!!!

    No negativity aloud ALL DAY!!!

  69. Rob in Beantown on

Honestly, Doc and Pierre have been pro-Rangers in every game they’ve called. No vendetta at all

  70. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Cross Check – They could be “best friends” by now. Don’t ya think?

  71. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Honestly Rob the only thing I have against Doc and Pierre is that they are not Sam & Joe.

Sam is the voice of the Rangers for me. It’s just not the same without him, and I can’t wait for the Replay on MSG. But I will watch it again if they win, if I get a chance.

Just not a fan when Direct blacks out the MSG network.

  72. Yergs, Yes! the good old days when the Mets won games by scoring 3 in the 9th!

  73. Cross Check Charlie on

I think this Jeff guy just wants to get a rise out of people by constantly posting that Torts will get fired.

  74. Haha Papa Bear. Isn’t it interesting… 1994: Mets vs. Pirates. 2013: Mets vs. Pirates. 1994: Knicks vs. Pacers. 2013: Knicks vs. Pacers. 1994: Rangers vs. some stupid team in red. 2013: Rangers vs. some stupid team in red.

  75. Cross Check Charlie on

BTW, I didn’t see what happened that caused the end of the game dance. Of course, CNBC didn’t show anything because they had to hurry up and interview Henrik then go to some stupid show.

  76. Has anyone allowed their head to venture far enough down the road to realize there is a real chance that Wade Redden scores a goal against his old team in the playoffs??

  77. Rob in Beantown on

I doubt they give it to Girardi cause I think they want a Forward and a Defenseman to have one. Or at least that’s how it is now

  78. Oh yea, Nash.

Girardi currently has an “A” with Staal out. He deserves one too.

  79. I agree Yergs…..it just hit me as I watched the Toronto – Boston game and I got this terrible vision into the future…..

  80. I do agree, though, it’s weird hearing Redden’s name in a relevant nature again. Kinda sends shivers down your spine.

  81. again the great and mighty caps go to a game 7 against the offensively challlenged rangers. they won 2 games at home in OT.

rangers without CLowe and Staal and of course Sauer for the whole season.

    anything can happen of course….

play kreider more thne 4 minutes. i like richards on the 4th line if he plays well with the puck early in the game give him more ice time…

dorsett of course is a big upgrade over asha, or rupp or previous thugs…

  82. Between them wanting to give him one last look/chance at a full season and the fact that the upcoming UFA class is depressing, it just doesn’t seem likely.

  83. If we get past the Craps and see Redden in the semi’s i look forward to watching Hags blow past the old pylon like he’s skating in quicksand.

  84. In 2 career Game 7s Holtby is 1-1 with a 1.48 GAA and .952 SP In 3 career Game 7s, Lundqvist is 1-2 with a 1.33 GAA and .946

The above was tweeted by Chuck Gormley – anyone want to correct him? Henk won 2 game 7’s in net last year alone. Lost to the Caps 2 years ago. So he’s 2-1, thanks very much.

  85. Onecupin73yearsandcounting on

If you’re a sporting person (betting) you have to go with the rangers finally winning a game 7 on the road..

Never mind the minutia of the PP,PK lack of scoring , goal tending.
Lady luck and the odds will (SHOULD) prevail..if not ,well same old rangers.

_Gravy you should have put your razor away the day of Game 1_

  87. Rob in Beantown on

Rangers should win. My fiancee has seen three games this series and missed three. The games she’s seen they won, and the games she missed they lost. I made her watch yesterday and will make her watch tonight. Rangers win.

  88. Like John Candy, but Fatter on

I picked the Ducks to win it all in our pools, so I’m pretty much out. Who would have guessed Wagner College would knock out Duke in round 1? I suck at predicting sports.

Seriously though, one last dance for the Wings and Hawks is awesome. Even after all these years, the Wings still have alot left in the tank.

  89. I picked Blues to get to the Finals. Ducks to make the Conf. Finals. Habs to beat Sens in 7. I blew it all over.

The Wings, and even the Ducks, pass the puck around with such speed, purpose & conviction that it almost looks like they practice together. Hard to imagine that anything other than Hank at his best can keep our rag tag bunch in a long series against some of these better teams…I know, let’s just worry about winning tonight

    Now explain it to me.

You bet $100, Rangers win you get $220.
    Capitals win you get $160.

    Correct?

  101. how can anyone work today.

0 and 5 all time in game 7 on road.

    hank 3-10 ot games.

    2 for 26 on pp.

YET here we are with an opportunity to move on.

if we should go down tonight and not be able to weather the early pp for caps i much rather lose 4-1 then another gut wrenching ot 1 goal game yet again at the verizon center.

  102. Gravy, Just Gravy on

Verizon Center will be a sea of red tonight, the likes of which we haven’t seen since Ed Hospodar introduced his jaw to Clark Gillies clenched fist

  107. Two minutes for Mike Green? You gotta be kidding. It was a wicked cross-check to the mouth of a defenseless player who was down on the ice.

To me, it looked like a 5 minute major, game misconduct, and a three game suspension, just like Hags got last year for a much less serious infraction.

By the way, two of the 3 game suspension would have had to be served at the start of next season, since tonight is the Craps last game

  108. refs for tonight

#5 chris rooney and #9 dan o rourke.

they worked the triple ot game 3 game last year and game 7 last year vs the caps as well

rangers 2-0 when these two guys are a pair.

  109. Because it was a cross-check rather than a high stick, I’m not sure they could’ve given Green a double minor. Rules seem to suggest it would have to be two or five, nothing in between.

  110. This home ice thing is crazy. No road wins for any team. Can we please try to change that tonight?

  111. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

    Agree Bob!!!

Hags 3 games what a joke, Green Nothing! Bettman is a Disgrace to the league.

  112. something else to make a Ranger fan worry
Brooks’ tweet about JT not being on taxi squad
    going home
in order to allow his wrist to heal

  113. Papa Bear, Gravy: I don’t understand the constant criticism of Nash. The guy has had two, three Craps on him at all times. He’s had to work through their clutching and grabbing, been cross-checked, tripped, face washed, you name it, and he still got in front of the net last night on the winning goal. While I personally feel he’s playing hurt because of that slash, he’s doing his job and making others better around him.

  116. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

If Nash get 2 – 3 guys on him at all times, doesn’t that open up the ice for the other 2 forwards?

  117. btw, nice review Carp
although i do disagree about the slewfoot
looked like Dorsett was just flailing backwards
    after he and green battled
    besides
doing a slewfoot to a guy who is
against the boards doesn’t make much
sense since his leg would hit the
boards rather than fly upwards for
    maximum loss of balance effect

Henrik is on top of his game. Nothing gets in tonight!!!

  132. Like John Candy, but Fatter on

If Henrik parted the Red Sea like Moses tonight, now THAT would be a playoff beard

  133. I can’t see Laich being “playoff ready/game shape.” I think he’d be more of a hindrance, not unlike like Staal playing before being ready was. Too risky for a Game 7……….but thats just me.

  134. The Maple Leafs are much better than people give them credit for. Sure they are weak in net but their Forwards can flat out score. I think JVR and Kadri create a nightmare matchup for us. Lopul is a beast (when healthy) and Phaneuf has already injured one of our top guys into retirement. We don’t have a defenseman that can clear JVR out of the crease and he can thus score a bunch against us. Their 3rd line is pretty flipping good too. Another bad matchup for NYR.

  135. Really, Carp!? You think they buy him out after the shortened season? I’m not against it, just thinking that they would not do it after a short season.

  136. you may think i am nuts when i say this should we win tonight(prob not) i think the bruins are a better matchup then the leaves. the leaves have tons of speed a pp that scores and we have zero luck in canada.

Game 1 in the Eastern Conference Semifinal series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators will be played at 7:30 p.m. ET at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh and the Western Conference Semifinal between the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks will start at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.

Additionally, Game 1 in the series between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings will be Wednesday, May 15 at 8 p.m. ET at the United Center in Chicago.

The remainder of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs Conference Semifinals schedule, including dates, times and national television coverage for the entire round, will be released after the conclusion of tonight’s games.

The Conference Quarterfinal round of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs reaches its dramatic conclusion tonight when two Eastern Conference series will be decided in Game 7. The Boston Bruins host the Toronto Maple Leafs at TD Garden (7 p.m., ET, CBC, RDS, CNBC) and the Washington Capitals welcome the New York Rangers to Verizon Center (8 p.m., ET, NBCSN, TSN, RDS2).

I love it that the NHL lets us know when the next round starts THE DAY BEFORE

  141. Looking forward to a huge power play advantage…..80 years of complaining calls has finally paid off…THE REFS LIKE US!

  142. Carp, great review as always! Thanks for your work here.

    Thoughts from section 115:

    1. Sather gets killed a lot on this blog, but he should be given a box of cuban cigars for getting Anton Stralman on this team. The guy has been so solid, my jaw has dropped from some of the plays he has made. And some of the checks he has thrown.. wow!

    2. We are a totally different team with Marc Staal in the line-up. I am praying he plays in game 7. If he is not out there, you know he is having serious problems and that is a huge concern for the rest of his career. With Stralman playing so well and the emergence of John Moore; Staal gives us the best 6 man D corp in the NHL in my opinion.

    3. Girardi and McDonagh. I love these guys. True warriors in every sense of the word. Blood and guts guys. McDonagh is the best trade in Ranger history. (The Messier trade was a PURE salary dump, here I believe the habs thought that Gomez would resurrect his career in Montreal!)

    4. The Kreider: God, I wish Torts would let the kid play. We need offense badly, he has shown he can provide it. Is he that bad defensively? I just don’t see that?

    5. The King: There are no words!

    6. MDZ had a much more solid game. No plays that were stunning in their del zasterness. He can’t afford some of the boneheaded plays we have seen this series in a game 7.

    7. Brad Richards: I hope to god that they can buy him out. I would much rather see Stepan as the # 1 center. I think JT Miller could develop into an excellent #2 center. Brad has hit the wall and hit it hard. His legs are gone.

    8. I watched Nash VERY closely. There is no doubt in my mind that he has a groin or harmstring or some injury affecting his skating. He is an explosive and excellent skater and that is gone. There was a play in the third period where he was going down the wing and was easily caught. I also agree that his wrist is hurting. His wrist shot is lacking the normal power and speed.

    9. John Moore: so impressed with this kid and his skating ability. He should be on the point on the PP.

    10. I love that little italian kid from Norway. He is fearless. Will throw a check, play along the boards and he has skill. He is so tiny though. When he stands next to nash or boyle, you just have to laugh. They should resign him, no questions asked.

    11. I fear the Rangers will pay the price for the lousy inconsistent year that they had. In my opinion, (even though the home team has won their home games) home ice doesn’t mean much in the NHL until, game 7.. We saw that last year, didn’t we?

    12. I can barely work today. Too excited and nervous about tonight. LETS GO RANGERS!

  143. Carp – are you teasing us with some insider knowledge you’ve recently acquired about Richie? Or just stating opinion?

  144. Rob in Beantown on

If Carp has insider info, Richards probably has it too. I doubt that makes it easier for him to play

  145. Referees for #Caps – #NYR Game 7, for those wondering, are Dan O’Rourke & Chris Rooney. Linesmen are Brian Murphy & Jean Morin.

like i said earlier in post

rooney and o rourke worked game 3 triple ot and game 7 last year vs caps.

    rangers 2-0. good omen

  146. hot topic on nhl radio

who needs tonite game more. who has more pressure the ranger/caps. 1st round ouster for either wont sit well

  147. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Here’s what I don’t get: Torts acknowledges Richards sucks by playing him basically as 4th line center for a total TOI of less than 10 mins. Yet, Richards is still out there on the PP. If he sucks so badly that he’s getting less than 10 mins on ice, 0 mins of that should be on the PP.

  148. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

eric, more pressure on Rangers. 1st round exit for Caps is not a big deal this year. They didn’t start coming around to Oates until like halfway through the season.

Rangers were a top “expert” pick for making the Cup Final, with many having them winning it.

  149. completely agree doodie.

what does it say if richy is torts guy who he loves plays him less then 10 mins and he was brought here because he was a big game player.

  150. its just pathetic you pay richy all this money for games like tonight and thats what you brought him here for and now he is a 4th line center and he should be because his play has suffered all year. amnesty

  151. So you say I don’t add anything of value here, and you’re talking about Muppets.

  152. doodie

yes in my mind as well rangers far more pressure then caps tonight.

with what we did last year and getting nash and the caps going through there 3rd coach in 3 years

  153. Lots of talk in WSH that Brooks Laich could draw into Caps’ lineup in G7 tonight.

i hope not. throw him with ward and chimera. oh boy

  154. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Crap, just noticed that I picked Kings in 7 instead of 6. If I’m right (and I’m probably not), should the Capitals win tonight, the contest will come down to the second tiebreaker between Me and Mosesjd, with the outcome of the Leafs-Bruins game being irrelevant as we would be the only people to have at least 7 series correctly picked, and we would both have 2 correct number of games.

  155. I agree that Boston is probably a better matchup but I fear their goaltending and experience which is why I am rooting for Toronto

  156. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

eric, not to mention the emotional lift from his return. One of their real glue guys.

  157. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

I think they dress Laich over Wilson. Even if he only plays 5 minutes, seeing him on the bench and in the dressing room is going to lift that team.

  158. Not much pressure on the Rangers, I don’t think. None of the experts picked the Rangers for the Cup or a deep run without thinking Nash, Richards, and Gaborik were a serious threat. The first has faded, the second may be done, and the third is gone. Nobody would expect this line-up to do that much if it had been there to begin with. They are back to overachieving and sacrificing their bodies to hold one-goal leads if they get them. Will they overachieve as much as last year’s group? Doubtful, but possible!

  159. Yev, I agree with most of your comments. I don’t think, however, that the fact that Staal may not be able to play tonight or in the rest of the playoffs means that his career is seriously threatened. But only time will tell, right? Agree on Stralman. That guy has shown some real flashes of brilliance. I love the game he played last night. And Zucc’s energy, creativity, and willingness to throw his body around has got to be inspiring to the team. LGR!

  160. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Oh, and also the pressure of their building-mate Knicks making it to the 2nd round. Sure, they’re getting killed, but at least they made it.

    The Wizards… not so much.

  161. He was out with a groin injury, not skating or taking contact for over a month…….how good can his conditioning be?? there has to be some rust there……I personally don’t see Washington taking the risk in a Game 7…….but who knows

  164. Hamrlik, Richards, and Del Zotto with the Game 7 goals. Oh, crap, that was last year!

  165. re: Richards on the PP. I don’t get it either, but one possibility is that somebody has to transport the puck into the zone, and Richards is the best on the team at that one thing. Nobody else is very good at it.

  166. I get that idea, Carp. I just don’t know why Richards doesn’t transport it in and then drop pass (his favorite) to a point man and follow the boards down low where he’s shown he’s a much better passer.

  167. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

  171. I’m not joking. I am sure tonight will be the absolute worst situation ever for the Rangers’ Fans.

  172. We are 0-5 on the road in GAme 7’s.

  201. Manny, If Ribeiro or his associates were to spend time here perusing the recent threads since the series started, he would probably file a stalking complaint and try to obtain a restraining order on you.! :)

  202. Like John Candy, but Fatter on

I’m gonna bust you up – Clubber Lang
    Go for it – anonymous

  203. I would gladly face those charges, Papa. That would give me a shot at fistacuffs with Mr. Ribeiro.

  204. Tonight more than ever it is imperative to stay out of the penalty box…it’s going to be a game ripe for retaliatory penalties, so keep cool like last night. Given Caps a couple of power plays and they will capitalize (no pun intended), no question.

  205. Mike Keenan, 2 year deal to coach in Russia. Ha, I guess he blew through his money and commentary $’s weren’t paying the bills.

  206. Forgive me if a stupidly naive question, Doodie, but why would the Knicks making the second round make any difference to what pressure the Rangers are under? I can’t believe anyone outside of Dolan and the MSG suits, i.e. the players and coach, give a crap.

  207. Caps not concerned about Richards for good reason he stinks…. he has stunk the whole season, he had the weakest hat trick I have ever seen against the Sabres.

the clowe trade which I did not like when it occured now looks awful. 3 picks for what? if sather gives Clowe a big deal he iscertidiable.

the Gabby trade I liked from the start and again it will work out well for both teams.. Rangers now only have a few total wastes on the ice per game before they had 3 or 4 per game.

imagine if Staal and Sauer were healthy I guess they might not have Moore and possibly no Stralman. Stralman whatever he is making the Rangers are getting there moneys worth from him.

Zucc resigning has really helped another guy with some skill who competes….

  208. Mess was with Slather in the box upstairs last night. This Ganby deadline deal has Mess/Nash all over it.

Each of the three we got has a place on this team. Hope Brassard can continue to play at this level. Moore is fun to watch.

Good trade. Without it we’re probably gone already.

  209. Lev, many good points in your multi-numbered post. With Staal and Sauer, we have one good d corps. Best in league?

Hmmm….that’s saying a lot. As stated many times over the cours if this year, we are not complete without what a team lik Ottowa has. That would be:

-one or two point men that can put the puck where they want it on ne
-more size so we can clear the crease.

  210. That’s the issue with us against the Maple Leafs. No one to clear the crease. JVR with 2 goals a game.

  211. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Lw, Pressure on Gorton from Dolan. Please note I say Gorton instead of Sather, since Gorton appears to have been in charge this year with Sather out of commission. Also, Gorton appears to be the heir apparent, and I don’t think he will have the infallibility to Dolan that Sather does.

  212. The rule re: “Slewfooting,” ….and causes the (opponent) to fall violently to the ice.” The only one who fell to the ice was Dorsett. ——————> see Katie Karrera

  213. Manny we’re gonna make T-shirts out of all these, right?

Has Richards been bought out yet?

  214. Rob in Beantown on

Haha, Is This Real. Lundqvist sort of looked like he didn’t know what to do right after the game ended.

“Should I join them? Hmm, no, that’s a bad idea. But I’m not going to go anywhere either, I’m just going to stay RIGHT HERE.”

  215. It’s a joke, Doodie. That song sucks. I think the Yankees used it one season though as a playoff song.

No copyright issues I can think of, James. Let’s print ‘em up!

  216. Agreed, Manny.

As well, not only on PP, but 5-5, having liquid, puck carrying, crisp passing d-men, with booming, accurate point shots is crucial.

MacD can (but what else can we ask of him?), Staal can rush. MDZ?

It’s a good defense. But it does have its holes. Who knows how much our incompetent offense is, in some way, linked to the lack of offensive ability coming from the defense?

  217. I’ve refrained from saying much regarding Nash. I will leave it at this. If he is successfully going to play his career out here- and by trading Gaborik I would think they consider him their franchise player aside from Hank now- he’s going to have to eventually put this team on his back and be the leader offensively as we saw Gaborik do at times (though not consistently).
Game 7 after being injured/ice cold/unlucky/getting bad bounces would be an IDEAL time to start.

  218. Im not going to call tonight a must win, because I do believe the way the refs have been calling it, Bettman would make it a best of 9 anyway…but tonight is big no doubt…

  219. I hope this attitude is legit and shared by his teammates:

    @NYDNRangers

Brian Boyle on playing Game 7 on the road: “It doesn’t really matter now. It’s 3-3. We could be playing anywhere.” #NYR

  220. Stranger Nation on

Nash has been more effective when he is taking the body. Must hit Green and Johanson…hard and often

  221. Kypreos on the Bruins/Leafs series: “Game 7 favors the better skating team”

  222. Is This Real? –

Depends. I’m going to probably go makers mark and coke, and if they lose, a double dose of hemlock.

  223. On Mike Keenan:

No way he spends 2 years in Russia. If he is successful, he will wait until the playoffs to negotiate a deal to coach another team!

  224. Caps fans I’ve heard from seem to be more upset with the Callahan elbow then the Dorsett play.

  225. I don’t think I can keep anything aside from water down tonight. My stomach is rumbling in anxiousness.

  226. Must win. Hope del zaster doesn’t screw up.

How about putting John Moore back on point of the pp.

  227. Keenan signs to coach in Ural Mountains. Bring earmuffs, translator, hot water bottles.

  228. Bear, “approaching 50 mark of fandom”?

Long suffering kindred spirit, I’ve been following the “circus” since the late 40’s!

And my view remains the same, the fish rots from the head even when the names change!

Nice call on MDZ who is a capable 3-4 with the right partner. You know that mean sob I’ve been asking for!

  229. agree he is talking about him like he has some crazy inoperable tumor or something…

  230. As I perused my old anthropology library, I couldn’t help but notice an eerie resemblance between Ovechkin and Australopithecus Robustus.

  231. As the man in cooscoos avatar once said:

What? Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

  232. The only way Richards scores tonight is if the Buffalo Sabres magically appear on the ice wearing Caps’ uniforms.

  233. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

the tough get goin! Who’s with me?! Let’s go! C’mon! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  234. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

C’Mon Doodie ……. give me some points!

Back to the .50 something. Hank just had a shutout. Rangers are on a Role. I know you have some faith.

  235. lol listening to Francesa. Waiting for him to say that if Henrik is shutting out Caps with 4 minutes left and faceoff is in Rangers end, bring in Biron because he is fresh and Lundqvist may be tiring.

  236. Did anyone else hear these 2 surprisingly candid comments in post-game from Joe M last night:

    1. Said he’s been watching Nash closely, especially his skating, and is sure he is injured.

    2. Called Richards a “mental nutcase” in terms of how hard he is being on himself and the fact that he mentally can’t get out of his own way is preventing him from playing better.

  237. He did say that, Kenny. Motivational rabble-rousers often mis-speak themselves.

  238. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Doodie – in the Bonehead challenge. You are #2 in points. Great pics so far you are 6-6.

Who is Kelly Nowak????? I’m not familiar with that name?

  239. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Hank has stolen 3 games, the Rangers only managed to win one of those three. He’s not stealing a fourth game in the first round. Ovechkin has 1 goal on 30 shots. Rangers have never won a game 7 on the road. Nash still without a goal. Richards still on the team. Sorry, 0.0.

  240. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Doodie you can’t catch him. you have the exact same pics. He guessed one series correct and got the 5 bonus points.

    Great Picks …. very impressed.

Manny & I will be drinking the booze from the caboose. I’m 2-4, not going to cut it.

  241. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Well that’s were you lose “Bonehead” points.

Had you picked the Rangers to win this series, you win the WHOLE thing.
Now ….. it’s like kissing your sister. 1’st loser. you can’t jump over kelly.

  242. Since I contribute nothing of value to this blog, this is my farewell to all the Boneheads.

    Bye!

    LET’S GO RANGERS!

  243. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

And while I might not have your contest won for this round, I will possibly win the blog contest with a Capitals victory tonight.

  244. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Stranger wins if our Boys win! So you almost have to root for him to get the Cigar.

  245. Rob in Beantown on

Rangers winning just 1 out of their last 11 playoff games in Washington means they are due for a win tonight. That’s how statistics work.

  246. Not feeling good about this game to be honest. Lost 11 out of the last 12 playoff games in Washington (and these numbers are actually relevant since many of the same players were involved) and they have owned us in OT.

Really hope they can win, but it’s going to be really really tough to pull off

  247. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

That’s because he can’t tell you who the PP QB of the Sarnia Sting in 1998 was.

  248. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

I still have a shot at winning the whole thing. Kelly picked the Kings over the Sharks. I picked the Sharks over the Kings.

  249. Pierre talking about the FEAR FACTOR. I think I made it clear before that NO FEAR is the key.

“BE EVERYTHING. FEAR NOTHING.” – No Fear

  250. An early Ranger PP and better yet, an early Ranger PP GOAL would be pretty unreal.

  251. Pierre actually does make some good points about home ice advantage on face offs.

  252. Rob in Beantown on

Girardi did hit his head against the boards pretty bad. But Block Ness doesn’t get concussed; his head probably concussed the boards

  253. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

I’m sure Girardi looks like swiss cheese, under the blueshirt. Nobody’s 100% by game 7. Except for Hank, he doesn’t get much better than last night.

  254. Did he hit his head? I thought the rest of his body took the brunt of it.

I don’t really worry about Girardi since he played for the London Knights and won a Memorial Cup, under Dale Hunter, with a broken hand (Pierre loves that stuff!).

  255. Pierre somehow turns this Rangers/Caps conversation into a conversation about the Islanders and how great their coaches, players and fans are.

  256. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Manny, he’s gotta shill for the NHL. One day, Bettman will get Pierre a GM job. He came very close in Montreal.

  257. I hope it isn’t for the Rangers. I remember when Pierre was coaching my beloved Hartford Whalers. Didn’t go well but, in his defense, nothing really did for the Whale once they left the WHL.

  258. Or…. We could treat our team like the Kingsguard in Game of Thrones and (if you only watch the show you might not be this far yet) he could write the histories of every member of the kingsgaurd a/k/a NYRangers and where they came from and who they played for…

  259. The only thing I’m not looking forward to tonight is having to listen to Doc Emrich talk about waffleboarding this, and knifing that, and a million other made-up verbs. Other than that, I’m ready for the boys to finally win a Game 7 on the road. This is the time! LGR!

  260. Cross Check Charlie on

Is waffleboarding like waterboarding only they shove waffles up your nose?

  261. Yes Eric and eric are the same person. My I phone is capital E computer lowercase e.

That said I just picked up 6 pack firestone jack ipa.

I can’t handle the nerves. Once the ranger season ends I become a new person at home. I’m not ready yet.

  262. Cross Check Charlie on

I think the Rangers win this game just to prolong our agony for another couple of weeks.

  263. Carp, great point regarding the game 6 & 7 scheduling, not just for our boys but for the other series. I know NBC dollars decide this scheduling but to your knowledge, has there been any “push back” from the higher ups @ MSG management regarding this? Certainly, Boss Bettman doesn’t care what this does to the quality of the game 7’s so I am surprised if none of these owners make any objections!! I guess the NBC money is enough to assuage their fears of their teams losing!!!

  264. If Nash and Richards produce, the Rangers will win. If they give another so-so performance, then the Rangers won’t win.

  265. I can’t take a night of Emrick. He’s awful.

“the puck is scooted on over and up but not out and slid on down to be handled in the corner by Pyatt who throws a shot on net AND IT WOULD NOT GO rebound corralled by Chimera and passed up and along and back out to Ward who dumps the puck in and both teams change”

  266. A shot on goal WAFFLEBOARDED away by Holtby but knifed on along and up by Richards who would not be denied a shot on Holtby AND IT WOULD NOT GO!

  267. Cross Check Charlie on

How about when they start a period and he says “No carryover penalties or power plays.”

    Well, yeah….

If there are no carryover penalties how can there be a power play?

  268. Off to kill time by eating pizza and sticking my head in the oven to de-stress. Maybe they can heat up my clothes.

    STRESS

  269. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Manny – Grey Goose Tonic & a lime!!!!

I won’t run out. But will need a couple right away!!!

  270. Frost tonight. Bring in cover, or garage annuals. Ironically, pansies are tough enough to withstand frost. Go figure.

  271. Eric “That said I just picked up 6 pack firestone jack ipa.”

That should get you thru the first period. What about the rest of the game?

All kidding aside bud, hang in there. I can feel a road win tonight!!!! LGR!!!!!

  272. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

Manny it is on MSG. But we will get blacked out and forced to watch the NBC feed. If I want to listen to Sam, I have to watch/DVR the replay.

  273. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

@Is waffleboarding like waterboarding only they shove waffles up your nose?@

A waffle is like a pancake with a syrup trap.

  274. Sioux-per-man 10.0 on

    Drink – Grey Goose tonic

    Victory:
    Cigar – Romeo Julieta Reserve
Johnny Walker Blue after the win!!!

  275. Sioux-per-man 11.0 on

Might have to light up the Cigar right away!!!!

Sold the house today!!! First people that looked at it made an offer I couldn’t refuse.

Best day of the year so far, Rangers WILL Win!!!

  276. Sioux-per-man 11.0 on

I wonder if he will be a good scout for the Rangers?

Kind of odd we have no Russians on the team don’t you think?

  277. Sioux-per-man 11.0 on

Can’t comment on the live post.

Carp – what’s up with that?

  278. ‘There’s a frost over bourbon street tonight
I see faces as they pass beneath the pale lamplight
I’ve no choice but to follow that call
The bright lights, the people, and the frost and all
I pray everyday to be strong
For I know what I do must be wrong
Oh you’ll never see my shade or hear the sound of my feet
While there’s a frost over bourbon street.’

  279. Rangers can win with a invisible RIchards they have been doing it all year. They do need nash to do something. if the rangers scored 3 goals I would be amazed.

assume 2 to 1 someone or 1 to nothing.

the refs will want to get the rangers in the box after all the Caps whining wtc… IF the rangers PP is there downfall tonight that would not be a schocker.

    hope for the best…

  280. Sioux-per-man 11.0 on

I agree throw the number out the window!!!

These guys don’t care what’s happened in the past.

    They control their own destiny!!!

Hank pitches back to back shutouts!

  281. Sioux-per-man 11.0 on

Eric – The Rangers had a new T-Shirt on for you last night.

    #Stay Positive

  282. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

My tiebreaker prediction for the bonehead contest was 4-1. So that’s my prediction. 4-1 Capitals.

  283. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

Some guy at work gave me two large cigars. I have an infant. What the hell am I going to do with these two big cigars?

  284. caps with 12 goals scored for the series and the rangers with 11….

i think the rangers have been ahead longer during the games but the series could have been won by either team.

teams are different but evenly matched that is the bottom line. rangers are without more key players then the caps but that is reality.

callahan has zero goals, nash zippo, and richards 1..

rangers are simply offensively challenged, playoffs or regualr season that is the fact…

need at least 2 goals tonight 3 would be heaven….

  285. *Staal Wart* on

Doodie just put the cigar in your mouth, you can be like Sather, alway’s a cigar in the mouth…never lit up.

  286. Sucks to think this may be the last time we chitty chitty chat chat on a game night until October. Sheesh, I’ll be married the next time the Rangers play if they lose tonight.

  287. Doodie Machetto, 0.0 on

My kid will be a full year old by the time they play another meaningful game.

  288. If the Rangers game is this wide open I am going to be majorly upset!

Volpatti possibly playing. Retribution = Distraction (I hope)

  289. Sioux-per-man 13.0 on

Sorry Dood’s if your giving me a 0.0?

I’m not even reading you anymore.
