Said it yesterday…if the Rangers somehow manage to win this series, the Boyle goal will be the turning point.

You can fault Holtby all you want, but Boyle made a nice move and drove to the net. The timing couldn’t have been better. Down 1-0 after the early goal, then another seemingly failed PP could have really put them behind the 8 ball.

  2. Lloyd Braun on

that was a soft goal no matter how you slice it. doesn’t lessen the importance of the goal, but there’s no way that should be in the net.

and for my money, the Asham goal was way bigger

  3. Stranger Nation on

The play leading to Boyle goal was very key – Bros-hard hustling to keep puck in zone along boards, makes a great play to not only keep in zone, but get it past Craps player on to Boyles stick. Boyle skates to net an nobody picks him up. Boyle closes his eyes and shoots and scores.

Then proceeds to play on every PP and double shifted 5v5 because he is the “hot hand”

  4. Gravy, Just Gravy on

The shot itself should have been stopped, but he went around a defender and was strong on the puck.

I think the Asham goal, and the Stepan goal for that matter, were big given they were go-ahead goals. But, down 2-0 in the series, 1-0 in the game, PP expiring, hadn’t scored in 120+ minutes…could’ve folded the tent there.

Carp, any chance you could post a link for the new post when you announce it on the previous one? Or at least on the posts with a lot of comments. It would make getting to the new post a lot easier for those of us on the mobile app, especially those that are viewing it on the small screen of a phone. It would really be appreciated (at least by me). Thanks!

  6. Lloyd Braun on

Asham goal is the biggest goal to me because it turned the tide of the game at even strength. Rangers were completely dominated for the first 2 periods except when on the PP – the Boyle goal for all intents and purposes was still a power play goal since Ward wasn’t even on the ice at the time. I firmly believe if not for the 6 power plays, the Rangers lose the game by a wide margin. Rangers, to their credit, were able to tread water by playing the first 30% of the game with a man advantage but the beginning of the third period was what really changed the complexion of the game. The Rangers were finally able to hang with Washington at even strength, something that did not happen at all during the previous 40 minutes.

  7. Gravy, Just Gravy on

Big goals, yes. But, not all were series turning points -if the Rangers win the series of course-

  8. I didn’t catch the game, but was score checking when possible. Glad to see Boyle and Asham hitting the back of the net.

  9. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

I don’t believe the Boyle goal was such a soft goal. Holtby tried to cheat to his right because Boyle looked like he was going to pass it across the crease. Boyle put him in a difficult position. If the puck was passed and he hadn’t cheated then that puck goes in the net 8 times out of 10 (not including the Rangers chances when it becomes 2 out of 10). Holtby played the percentages and bet on the pass across, after all, it was Brian Boyle with the puck. Fortunately for us he bet on the wrong horse.

  10. Matty"Sather should have known better"Boy on

Occasionally, we all have to listen to others and get off our high horse. I did so the other day in that I stated that, despite my disdain for what Sather has done in his 13 years here, the deadline deal with Colombus was a positive in that he got value for Gabby, with one year to go (as Calgary did not with Iginla). The 3 guys we got, to varying degrees are a help. We’ll see.

In much the same way, those of you that have this pent up hatred for Boyle need to let it go and realize the guy played a big role in last night’s game, the most pivotal game of the year. Not only does he handle the PK, key face offs, take regular shifts, and hit people in the lower parts(that’s a joke, there), as well as check, he also had a huge game.

Call it what you want. I was there and very impressed with his play.

  11. Lloyd Braun on

Boyle definitely had a good game last night as did the rest of the bottom 6

  12. Anyone who consistently knocks anyone on this team other than Richards is a curmudgeon.

  13. Two forwards just before DelZ point blast: “Let’s get in front of the net before he kills both of us.”

  14. Lloyd, I agree. The bottom six needs to kick in now and again, especially when teams game plan your top lines. I think that’s why Ritchie found some touch a week or two ago, playing third line against other third lines seems to fit him to a tee.

  15. I like what Boyle does for the team, it’s just too bad he hasn’t been able to do it on a nightly basis this season.

I’ve never understood why everyone hates Boyle so much. Maybe he never should have had that 20 goal season – it just made some fans raise the bar too high for the guy.

  16. Stranger Nation on

Richards is a waste – is that better?

Boyle is god – is that better?

  17. Lloyd Braun on

personally, I like Boyle and think he can contribute. as I have said before, I think he’s got a lot of heart and tries very hard. my issue with him stems from the coach’s insistence on shoehorning him into roles he has no business being in – that’s not Boyle’s fault, obviously. the guy is good on faceoffs and is capable of occupying space in front of the net. that being said, I don’t think he’s nearly the physical player his hit totals indicate, and far too often he plays like a much smaller player than he is. to me the guy is an excellent 4th line center who can take an important faceoff and kill penalties. the rest of it is just Tortorella elevating his boys.

  18. The mystery of Pyatt is that Kreider is deemed not good enough to replace him. What does that say about Kreider?

  19. Stranger Nation on

I truly do not believe people ‘hate’ Boyle, but get frustrated when he plays top 3rd line minutes and has trouble possessing the puck and constantly falls on the ice (seems more like a team affliction these days).
Torts’ reliance upon him places him in situations where he has to make hockey playt and for the most part, he does not do so.
Boyle at his best is a contributing 3rd line who will check and play solid pk.
Boyle at his worst is a non factor, sliding on the ice, turnover machine given PP time when others are not.
We like Brian Boyle, just not for 17 minutes a night

  20. Fan behind the net yells as Delzotto winds up: “put your beers on the floor and give cover to women and children. We have a Broken Arrow incoming”

  21. Anyone who spells God with a small d is playing with fire, – Rupp, 2:37

  22. I prefer the passage from Rupp 57:23. “Thou shalt not bear a false impression of a hockey player with skills”

  23. I’m the one with the original ’57 sunburst Fender that my brother in Calif. borrowed, had painted black, then pawned.
Never had an inclination to speak to him since.

  24. Sully to Torts: ” John, is it possible to get Richie a stick without a blade so we eliminate those backhand turnovers.

Torts retorts: How’s your dog, Sully?

  25. Someone said that Richie is running in the Preakness. Hope the blueshirts are still alive at that point.

  26. Abe Lincoln’s comment on his wife’s family, the Todds: “One d was good enough for God, the Todds needed two.”

  27. Strange @ 2:51 . Last night was Boyler at his best. That’s good enough for me. He was a factor and positive contributor to the outcome of this game. He played with some snarl!

  28. Ha! I wish I was the EC who plays a 57 stratocaster.

Stranger – I hear what you’re saying. Boyle does play too many minutes considering what he does with them. I like him just fine as a 3rd/4th line checking center who can win some faceoffs and pop in the occasional goal.

I really don’t like seeing him out there on the PP, though. I know he’s a big body, but I’m just not sure he’s got the hands to get at those loose pucks in front and put them in the net.

  29. How anyone can say Boyle is not physical has eye problems. There’s quite a difference between playing physical hockey and boxing.

  30. E3, thanks for taking over for Sather during his urinary difficulties and effectuating that trade.

  31. Bobby Ryan provided a good quote about the Red Wings yesterday. It went something like “They’re not physical in the sense that they’ll run you out of the building every night, but they make contact every shift.” Wish I could say the same about every NYR skater.

  32. Pyatt very, very rarely takes the opportunity to punish on the forecheck. He actually avoids doing so.

  33. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

I like Boyle, but he needs to play every game like last night. Win big faceoffs, get in front of the goalie, and shoot the puck when he has a chance. He has been hitting hard and playing the body every game he has been in since sitting and watching Miller play in his spot.

  34. I will not answer an interrogatory that does not include a question mark. :)

  35. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

    Pyatt vs Kreider.

Now there’s a debate. Who should be playing and WHY????

  36. Little Cally is so tough and insane early that he understandably tires late. He sets a tone like a true leader.

  37. Sioux – mama would like me to bring my A+ game every night too. Lets just leave it at that.

  38. Richie will have a 3 inch lead in the Preakness while standing in the starting gate.

  39. Don’t remember who it was, Lloyd. You have to scramble back through 50 posts to find the culprit. May have been on the previous post.

  40. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

I like Boyle on the 4th line, with PK faceoff wins.

He’s always played good in the Playoffs.

  41. Stranger Nation on

I never said he wasn’t physical, but I did make fun of his facial hair…

  42. With each passing game, more boneheads seem to be judging the contributions one MIchael Delzotto through Papa Bear colored lenses. Several times during last nights game, MDZ appeared to have no clue as to what side he was supposed to be playing.

He’s apparently a nice kid. but, I’ll say it again, there is practically zero chance of winning a Cup with him as one of your top 4 defenseman unless 1) the other 3 are an in their prime Doug Harvey, Bobby Orr and Larry Robinson or 2)he suddenly transforms into a legitimate NHL top 4 defenseman, which I don’t think is happening.

  43. Stranger Nation on

POs are made for Boyle’s and Chimera’s of the world when the ice gets smaller, the refs call less (cept last night) and the puck battles on the boards take on a higher level of urgency.

  44. Lloyd Braun on

I think Del Zotto is overrated and should be moved if any decent trade opportunity presents itself in the immediate future

  45. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

Kreider had 23 games out of 48 to win a spot over Pyatt.

He scored 3 points and was -1. Not great stats, and really he didn’t exactly light up the Whale either.
Not sure why he didn’t dominate in the AHL. If he was ready for a full time NHL job he should have had Newbury type Numbers don’t you think?

  46. Stranger Nation on

Papa – they had him playing Right side b/c now with Stawl back they have 4 Lefty Dmen

  47. Gravy, Just Gravy on

Speaking of religion, Boyle was one of the 10 plagues.

It seems you can only be a Boyle lover or hater. You’re either with us or against us or something. Guess that makes me a Boyle lover (that sounds gross), but he did lose the faceoff that led to the Hillen goal.

  48. Lloyd Braun on

Pyatt had 3 points in a 38-game span at one point, was completely ineffectual on both ends and wasn’t scratched a single time. Clearly the difference is that he has the coach’s trust and Kreider does not.

  49. Lloyd and Sioux – right on with both comments. DelZ is serviceable, but certainly not untouchable. And the Kreider thing remains unfathomable especially since Torts won’t touch it. One can only presume he knows what he’s doing, but when you consider his treatment of Richards, there is room for doubt that he does.

  50. Stranger Nation on

Sioux – I believe Kreider got 6 games of TOI in the 23 he was dressed unless we are counting 4 mins/game playing with powe and Haley as quality ice time.
This coach does not want to live with his mistakes so we get Pie-hat who doesn’t make many mistakes because, frankly, he cannot get to the puck in time to make one.
Kreider has one of the best shots on the team – would put him at point on PP over any forward we have – has speed and started to play with a little snarl.
Pie-hat made a play last night because the puck was already in zone. Someone said earlier, he played well and he got a point

Then again, the top 3 stars are always the goal scorers and Hank – go figure…

  51. Strange, do think torts and Sully forgot to tell him? He was drifting out of position all night long.

  52. Agree with Lloyd at 327.

Move del zaster as he was so awful last night. With John Moore emerging del zaster should be gone come summer time.

Boyle played a good game. I would have said great but he lost clean draw that made it 3-3.

Sitting in my seat I couldn’t believe the love torts shows for pyatt. He must have played the most minutes since he been here.

  53. Lloyd Braun on

just to be clear, I’m not for moving Del Zotto on the basis of last night’s game but based on what I’ve seen from him since he’s been a Ranger. to me he’s a guy that while he’s got any perceived value at all, you move him.

  54. Gravy, Just Gravy on

I have to agree on Pyatt. I’m just not sure what he really has contributed since the first week of the season (though he was OK last night). He doesn’t play particually nasty, or kill penalties either. He’s a 4th liner who was tempoarily put into a 3rd line role. I guess he doesn’t make egregious mistakes.

  55. Can you imagine the beating the Press would give a Joe Girardi (Yankees) or a Terry Collins if he all year kept over and over playing someone who was hitting .195 with 25 errors and had a top young draft pick lounging on the bench doing crossword puzzles? How does Torts get away with it without even a humble question? I’m still convinced that he has read the Bobby Knight handbook and intimidates young reporters.

  56. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

Kreider needs to use his speed like Hags, and his body like Miller/Cally. It will be interesting on how he grows into a Blueshirt in the upcoming years.

Pyatt on the other hand is a 12 year pro. Played all 48 games this year, only 3 other Rangers did the same. Hags, Stepan, Stralman.

Pyatt had 11 pts and was a +5. I think he replaced Feds numbers in a full season. He has 60 NHL playoff games and 21 pts.

If Kreider is going to replace him, he should be putting up better numbers. He’s not ready for a top 6 forward spot, and he doesn’t play the grinder/defense for the bottom 6.

Now is not the time to experiment with a rookie.

He was never in the race for the Calder this year, but he should have been. Had he scored like he did in the playoffs last year.

  57. I agree Del Zotto had a terrible game last night. When he just froze and didn’t play the puck behind the net just before the Green goal, I have no idea what was going through his head.

However, if you trade him, who’s taking his spot in the lineup? He’s not perfect, but he adds some offense at times and I’d much rather see him in there then Eminger, Gilroy or Bickel.

  58. Gravy, Just Gravy on

I still say 25 teams would be happy to have MDZ as their #4 D-man. The guy is 22.

  59. Lloyd Braun on

EC: you’d definitely have to find another defenseman, but I do think you could fetch a pretty decent forward in a package including Del Zotto. who are the UFA and RFA d-men on the market this summer?

  60. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

Lloyd – why are you busting Del Zotto again. Ok he had a bad game last night. The kid is allowed a gaff or two.
He is our #1 scoring Defenseman, at the age of 22.

Cut the kid some slack. Granted this is his 4th year in the league, but right now we don’t have a DMan to replace him in the system.

  61. Re: Nash- I posted it earlier he has an injury. His skating was off last night and he had no burst a majority of the time. He was barely skating mot of the 2nd and 3rd periods. It’s a LBI for sure- either right knee, right leg, or potentially a hammy.

  62. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

I’m pretty sure every team on the league would take a 22 year old defenseman, with 4 years experience, and has scored 40 pts in a season.

  63. loved when zuc jumped into Boyles arms after the goal he made it to his waist the long and short of it

  64. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

EC – I’m sure Hamrlik, Gilroy, and Bickel will be as well.

  65. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

JB – Good thing he made that game winning pass standing on his “good” toe :)

He will be in on Wednesday!!!

  66. The problem with MDZ’s trade value is with each passing day it’s going down faster than Linda Lovelace in ‘Deep Throat’.

Wow, I’m really showing my age now.

  67. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

Kreider is going to be a top 6 forward, for the Rangers. Just not this year.

Now if someone gets hurt, he could be the 1’st guy in. But he needs to score goals, or be the playmaker that sets them up. So far I haven’t seen that. We all know he has the skills. He just needs to get some momentum and find some confidence.

  68. Lloyd Braun on

so while the perception is that Michael Del Zotto is the Rangers #1 scoring defenseman at 22, I think you try to move him if the right offer presents itself.

  69. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

I’ll have to rewatch the game from last night. I just don’t get the Fire Sale on MDZ today.

  70. Lloyd Braun on

maybe you missed my earlier post but my interest in trading Del Zotto in the right package has nothing to do with his performance last night

also not sure how that in any way constitutes a “fire sale”

  71. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

    Agree Lloyd.

Even Gaborik will move if the right offer is made :)

  72. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

I think Del Zotto has 1 more year on his contract. Then it’s going to be a matter if he resigns for $ the Rangers want him at, or they will move him for a 1’st rounder and a player. IF and only if there is a player ready to take his spot. Maybe Moore steps up and replaces those minutes. And McIlrath would get 10 mins on a 3rd pair.

I fall on the side of keeping a 22 year old defenseman that can score. Not sure if he can grow into a Green or a Campbell type player. But at 22, he won’t even hit his prime for another 4-5 years.

  73. Matty"Sather should have known better"Boy on

Papa, Lloyd, I have been in MDZ’s camp. He does have some natural ability. I keyed him a few shifts last night and he was lost. He also was shying away from hits and when pressured, caughed up the puck. Is he hurt? Dunno. I just don’t think he was this bad earlier this year.

Three things for sure, he’s positionally not too good, quite slow, and can’t put the puck on net from the point.

Hate to say it, if you can get value, he goes. Nice kid. Good smile. Needs to be better.

  74. Lloyd Braun on

dunno how you can look at Del Zotto and see anything close to Mike Green

  75. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

I’m more interested if Clowe is 100%.

Does he replace Powe minutes tomorrow?

Will this team finally be at full strength?

    Can Hank shutout the Caps???

  76. bull dog line on

trading MDZ is going to be a really good discussion in the off season. I am still not ready to do it, but I think it should, and probably will be discussed by the Rangers.

  77. Lloyd Braun on

assuming Clowe is still dealing with the “head injury,” Kreider should dress if Powe isn’t ready to go – Powe is deadweight

  78. Matty"Sather should have known better"Boy on

MDZ has 1 more year at $2.55M

REGARDLESS, this team STILL needs at least one crusher, stay at home, crease clearing D-man. It also needs a point player (will more become that? perhaps).

Overall size on the D is an issue. Just look at our opponent. One top point player, one very good one, and 4 big guys. Is it working? Well, it may be too many big guys, but it has been quicksand for us so far, hasn’t it? We need more size.

  79. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

Green is 5 years older at 27. Putting up 50-60 pts.

MDZ is 22, putting up 40pts. Can shoot the puck on the Blue line and can run power play minutes, even if its the 2nd line. In 5 years, you can’t see a stronger – smarter MDZ?

  80. Lloyd Braun on

really sad how when reading your post I immediately thought, “Michael Sauer.”

  81. Lloyd Braun on

I’m not talking about stats, I’m talking about watching the two guys play

  82. Lloyd Braun on

have to wonder if you’re watching Michael Del Zotto if you think he can shoot the puck and run the power play

  83. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

Maybe McBust can get some minutes next year, he has the size, and can fight. Let’s hope he can graduate from “The School of Buke” and be the inforcer we are missing on the blue line.

That going to take more time.

  84. Stranger Nation on

MDZ is not a first paIr D, never will be. He does not possess the skating ability or size to warrant first pair money.
Saying he is leading scorer on D for this team is no great shakes, we dont have an offensive Dman on the team.
Last year he playedvery well in D zone, this year he regressed and is VERY inconsistent with puck.

  85. Lloyd Braun on

I was really falling in love with Sauer – feel terrible for the guy that he’s probably never going to play another game in the NHL

  86. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

I agree on 1’st pair money part, and I think that will be the end of him, if he holds out for it. Especially with the cap going down.

I’m just saying at 22yrs old, 40 pt, defenseman. He has has a high trade value, just not sure who we have to replace him. IF McBUST isn’t ready for the big leagues.

  87. Matty, welcome aboard! He is a good kid. And I really wish he would have developed more. But now that Gabby’s gone, i have a feeling he may become the next “Torts Project” if you catch my drift.

More importantly at $2.55 per, can’t afford to keep him as a 3rd pair DMan , especially with the cap going down.

Guys talk about replacing him? Will it really be that difficult to replace a 3rd pair DMan? We think he has value, so let’s cash it in over the summer and try to get some more help on offense. (including him a package for BRyan or a similar player would be super .and can be done – look at the leafs, who were able to acquire JVR for that big sloth DMan Schenn.

  88. Forgotten by all but Sather, Zotts played hardball up to the last minute with his last negotiation, pushed long and hard for 3 mil, settled at 2.55

  89. In all honesty, I think we should beat the bushes and search the market for an upgrade to our top 4 D as well.

How would everyone like to add a real nasty, bone crushing, crease clearing, foul breathed, mean spirited, head hunter, Dillion Phanuef type to the line-up???

  90. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

Papa isn’t that what they are trying to grow McBust into down on the farm?

  91. Del Zotto certainly isn’t untouchable (probably nobody on this team is), so sure, trade him away if the return is good enough.

Having said that, who do you all think is closest to being untouchable on the team, besides Lundqvist? For me, out of the forwards I really only think Callahan, Stepan, Nash and Kreider (because of his potential), and I think Staal. Girardi and McDonagh on D.

Of course depending on what you could get back I’d trade any of them, but realistically, I think those guys are the closest to untouchable on the team for me.

  92. Rob in Beantown on

I don’t think Kreider is untouchable by any stretch. I actually think he is among the most likely to be traded Rangers at this point

  93. The GM will play his Machiavellian card and pretend the Kreider is untouchable. Until he is touchable.

  94. Awesome, Suffering. Nice to have you on the “Ribeiro is a D-Bag” train.

  95. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

EJ, the tool, on NHL channel just compared Crosby’s whining and antics to TGO…saying both were/are hated by fans of other teams… He must be drinking…

  96. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

I would say Nash is untouchable, right after Lundqvist.

Slow off day, if we are talking trades already.

  97. Lloyd Braun on

only guys on the Rangers I absolutely wouldn’t trade are McDonagh and Lundqvist. anybody else I’d listen to offers. I don’t really consider Kreider part of the pro team right now since the coach seems to feel he’s less trustworthy than a guy who failed to register a point this year.

  98. I would probably trade anyone on this team for Tavares or similar talent, except (maybe) Hank.

  99. With McDonuts, Staal, (if he stays) Moore, possibly Girardi and McIlrath, that’s almost a full contingent of D for a decade.

  100. The only reason I say I wouldn’t trade Kreider is because I think his combination of size, speed and scoring ability deserves more than a few playoff games and a lockout shortened season to see if he belongs in the NHL. Of course, if the Fishsticks wanted to send Tavares in exchange for Kreider that’s a no brainer. Too bad Milbury isn’t GM over there anymore.

  101. Admiral Akbar on

    EC = God.

I don’t think EC plays 57 Stratocasters anymore, he’s playing new custom made starts. I wish he was playing a Gibson Les Paul or ES335, tho…

…although he could make even a plastic banjo sing, if that’s all he had…

  102. I get the feeling that this team, sans Richie, is next year reverting to the team no one looks forward to playing.

  103. Admiral Akbar on

It’s an honor to have EC (god) amongst us mere mortals on this site.

  104. Norm Merton on

Wow, Pyatt and Richards catching flak after strong games by each. Sure, poor seasons for each guy, but when they play well, what, really, is so bad about that? I, for one, hope they’ve gained some confidence and help win the next game. And Del Zotto, now we want to demote our best offensive defenseman? I mean, I hated the Gaborik trade — still don’t like it long term — but I sure hope it works this week! Dorsett has been a mixed bag but a contributor, Brassard had a great offensive game, and Moore is the best eggbeater we’ve had out on the high point in a long while. And the Caps aren’t that good.

  105. Lloyd Braun on

Brad Richards did not have a strong game

And no one is proposing to demote Michael Del Zotto

  106. Stranger Nation on

Richards played well…hmmm…site me when and where
6:37 of PP time and no goals – the two goals we scored were when he was NOT on the ice during the PP.
We did not demote MDZ, Torts did

  107. Sioux-per-man 9.5 on

Clowe in for Powe, almost certain that is the case with Powe not on the ice today.

Kreider next on the list. I’m thinking it will take an injury before we see him again this year in the playoffs.

They gave up 3 draft choices to get Clowe, they will play him if they can. And they should!!!

  108. I hope Clowe is healthy enough to play because I think he can really help out along the boards and creating traffic in front of Holtby.

I know the Rangers have had some trouble scoring on him this year and last playoffs, but I just don’t think he’s doing anything amazing. I don’t think he’s terrible, but he’s nothing special either.

  109. Norm Merton on

I wasn’t watching Richards through I-hate-Richards glasses, so it was pretty easy to see. Would have been nice if he’d had some puck-luck on his shot off the right post, but I won’t convince the haters, won’t try. Del Zotto did not have his best game, but like all the Rangers made an impact — good on both ends of the Boyle goal.

  110. Lol Manny you really have it out for Ribiero, is there some history there? ;) Curious when Avery was playing well for us which Avery camp were you in?

  111. In 2004,”Blackie” was auctioned for $959K with proceeds donated to the Crossroads Center for Drug & alcohol rehabilitation located in Antigu and founded by Clapton. Clapton still plays mostly Fender Strats and Martin Acoustics, with an occasional Gibson SG, ES 335 thrown in for good measure.

  112. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

So crazy busy day today for me just read carp’s great review so I’m reposting mine from late last night…

    iWicky “Frag Out!!!”
Late here and I just got done watching the game on the dvr

    Woooo hooooo!!! LGR!!

    Some observations…

    1) has anyone made the our grinders are better than your grinders t-shirt yet?

    2) I counted 6 hits by Nash in the first period and the best one was right after Brouwer leveled Staal, Nash skated right over and nailed Brouwer. Nash played his most physical game by far and a very good game.

    3) I said before the game if Staal came back I would sit Stralman and Stralman was bad tonight. The thing is, mdz was way way worse.

    4) Brassard was very good, really like the guy. He isn’t afraid to go to the “dirty areas” and you put him with a big body winger that goes to the net and man they could produce!

    5) I guess this is a game where all those “crappy, slow, worthless, how do they have a roster spot” players gave a great big middle finger to some of you here on the blog that just don’t quite get hockey eh!?

    6) hope powe is ok after a clear blatant elbow (consistent NHL justice coming?).

  113. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I thought engelland was an ufa after this year but didn’t see him on the list.

Murray or obyrne might be worth a shot for the right price

Nice to see some of you guys finally coming around to the Wicky side of things that I have been saying about our D for years.

Too vanilla and not big or nasty enough!!!

  114. I will say this: If Moore continues to show he has offensive instincts and can be the QB on the PP, then the Gaborik trade works for the Rangers

I haven’t been impressed at all with Dorsett. I know it’s only 2 games but I am not in the least impressed. Hopefully, we see what the hype was aboot sooner rather than later.

And, Brassard clearly is highly skilled. The only issue with him is consistency in production. He has the skill to score 30 or 40. But, let’s be real and admit that he isn’t Gaborik and never will be. And, those that think Gaborik is done are wrong. Just because he isn’t on the Rangers anymore and he’s not North American, doesn’t mean he is finished as a player…

  115. I want to win. I would prefer it happen with “homegrown” talent, but it’s certainly not a requirement.

  116. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Here’s a novel idea – Lets root and cheer for players that actually play for the rangers. The delusional gabby lovers can always post on the CBJ blog.

  117. NYR, what impresses me with Dorsett is that he was able to come back from a significant injury and layoff, play his first 2 games with a new team in a pressure packed playoff series without completely falling on his face. I hope we see continued progress with each passing game. He definitely knows to go to the net.

  118. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I could care less personally if the talent is home grown. If we draft a player with talent that “could” be an NHL player but can trade him for an established NHL player, I do it in a heartbeat.

What ever it takes to win a championship!

  119. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Dorsett misses 8 weeks and doesn’t what? Score goals? Gabby was on this team for almost 40 games, making 7+M, and he didnt score, play D, throw the body, or do anything else remotely productive. Yet drama prevails because Dorsett doesn’t score a hat trick in his first games back after injury.

Dorsett had more hits in games 2 and 3 than gabby had all season. And to think some of you called me a delusional Avery lover – pot meet kettle.

  120. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

I’ve seen more sweet passes from Brassard in his almost 20 games as a ranger than I saw from gabby in 4+ years.

  121. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Time will tell, but I think Gabby’s best days are behind him.

  122. The only “40” Gabby gets next year is an Old English 800 or a Pabst Blue Ribbon from some bodega in Columbus on his way home from practice.

  123. Norm Merton on

Eddie cubed, Gabby is a goal-scorer, one who slumped this season. Good teams have those, guys whose primary job it is to score, not dish out hits. If it turns out he’s done at the age of 31, then it was a good trade. Dorsett is another type that good teams have, a guy who can bang and isn’t expected to score much. Guess which model is harder to find.

But if Brassard finally turns into a player worth his draft slot, and if Moore can add some game to his great skating, it’s a good trade even if Gaborik returns to form, which I expect he will.

  124. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Norm – this isnt the first season gabby slumped. Far too much of a floater for my tastes and far too injury prone.

  125. E3, all due respect brutha, but I never said Gaby had a good season. And, does that bad season erase his entire Rangers resume? Including last year’s 3OT goal? I like Gaby as player. I’m done rooting for his team to win.

  126. ThisYearsModel on

Boyle had a good game last night. But the fact remains that if he could handle a simple pass out of the zone in game 2, there is no Green goal. If he could not lose a face off so incredibly clean last night, there is no Beagle goal. The frustrating part is his puck handling and his inability to make good passes. Something he now shares with Richards.

  127. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

My brutha – I wish Gabby the best. I am happy with all 3 of the players we got for him and I really believe all 3 will be special players. Brassard is going to surprise people. Don’t be so quick to dismiss Dorsett. He is one tough guy that will protect his mates…. Something sorely lacking this entire season….

  128. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Crosby just got hit up around the jaw on a deflection – praise Jesus

  129. Throughout this whole season, both pre and post-trade,I never saw Gaborik take any of those wicked quick-release wrist shots that were his stock in trade before the torn labrum. Rarely even attempted them, and when he did, they were not nearly as effective as they once were. Which really makes me wonder whether he will ever again be the scoring threat he once was.

  130. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

I did Ricardo….not live – I teach M/W night… But I taped the game and read the blog when I got home. My wife was sending me texts every few minutes as I was lecturing and half my class had their phones tuned into NHL.com for me too.

Your write ups have been brilliant by the way. You are zoned in….

What are your thoughts re: Dorsett?? I like him!!!!

Have you a chance to tell Clowe the e3’s are huge fans of his???

  131. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

FW – I totally agree. I really think Gabby is now a 20 goal scorer at best….

  132. e3, I finished McTeague. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the suggestion.

  133. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – good read eh? Trina liked her gold coins..interesting layout of turn of the century San Francisco. Van Ness Avenue was the west edge. Sidebar, I worked on van ness avenue mid 80’s during my engineering days….

  134. Yup. I finished it in one sitting..

I wish NYR would have some of that vindictive edge the characters in the book have.. they could really use it in this series and beyond..

  135. Paul in sunrise on

I like MDZ and he is only 22 so you don’t trade him. The only thing that I don’t like is that he is not a very swift skater. Not even close to Moore or McD. Or even Staal or Stral or even G. That’s the problem and what will keep him from being more than what he is which is going to be a nice solid defenseman wih good offensive instincts.

  136. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – try the Octopus if you liked Norris’ style. I think he is a brilliant descriptive writer….

  137. I’ll have to look into it, eddie. Nineteenth century literature is marvelous.. so many good writers to select from.

  138. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

If you want another classic, that is a page turner, try Henry James’ Washington Square. Another one sitting type of book…

  139. If Richards were a 21 year old making $700 thou, I might cringingly give him ten or twelve minutes a game anticipating his development.

  140. I never read any James. But the Fishsticks do look good. The Penguins can be had.. Islanders just need to handle special teams situations a bit better..

  141. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – have you read Wallace Stegner’s “Angle of Repose”? Brilliant writing!!!

  142. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – James is my favorite writer. The American – sheer genius. The Portable Henry James is amazing – the shirt stories “The real thing” and Turn of the screw – superb writing. James had an amazing insight into the human condition….

  143. Eleven million people in the USA are now on disability, more than the entire population of Greece. More importantly, (perhaps), the Rangers need to find nets.

  144. He’s one of those authors I just haven’t gotten around to.. that was quite a convincing case you made for him. I need to complete the Bronte sisters as well.

A real good contemporary novel is A Prayer for Owen Meany.. did you ever read that?

  145. Have read all the James shirt stories. Especially liked the Hawaiian one and the light blue Polo.

  146. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – no I haven’t read that – but I’m compiling a list….these days, I read primarily math biographies and chess books….and the NYT.

  147. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

The thing about Jamex is his vocabulary. I was pretty much looking up 2-3 words on every page….complex writing style. But deep insights into the heads of his characters….

  148. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

    Kooz – I meant sharp stories….errrrr sheer stories….errrrr shore stories …..errrr short stories…..

  149. I really enjoyed it, might want to add it to your list. On James, I especially like books that enhance vocabulary, so now I’ll definitely look into him.

  150. Th renowned psychologist, William James, was Henry’s brother. Wonderful, wonderful family, Sam.

  151. Duguay was wearing a colorful shirt story under his sharkskin the other night.

  152. This game is so hard to follow: Re-emerging and then un-re-emerging and then re-re-emerging and then un-re-un-re-emerging…

  153. haven’t had the chance, e3.

re: Dorsett, I see where he can be an asset. I think he’s going to take a lot of penalties, and he’s going to draw some. I want to see how tough he is, because he is supposedly a bulldog, during the regular season.

ps, right at this very moment, is Holtby>Fleury?

  154. Stranger Nation on

I continue to believe we need to upgrade D more than O. We have zero transition game and our D has trouble in corners and around the crease, two pretty important areas.
If our forwards didnt have to be below the circles every time in D zone, we might get some push up the ice.

  155. Holtby > Fleury but not Anderson > Holtby

I know, CCCP! Can you please punch something and make it make sense?

  156. Any moment you can expect a NEW POST, NEW POST and start all over again. Nice if you could just click on New Post, read it, and return to old stream.

  157. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Kooz – Th brother of Henry was William. Th James family quite brilliant.

Let’s hope th rangers win th game tomorrow .

  158. But, that, too might present problems. People would miss the New Posts. Forget I said it.

  159. I tell you that William was Henry’s brother and you tell me that the brother of Henry was William. Slow down on that Chardonnay. :)

  160. Yea, CCCP, and the Knicks are going to win whatever trophy the NBA gives out.

  161. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Ricardo – how many of Dorsett’s penalties will be a result of reputation?

As bad as MAF is tonight, Lolita’s author not much better…

  162. Nabokov is THE most experienced Performer in the entire playoffs though…

  163. Lats, you want to look up words, read Nabokov. He didn’t even start writing in English until his tenth novel. Wow.

  164. Stranger Nation on

Actually the announcer was talking perfect game from the 3rd inning.
Harvey is the real-deal Holyfield. Kid may throw couple of no-nos before carer is over if he atays healthy

  165. Matt Harvey is amazing. It was unreal to know about him in high school and watch him actually develop into something. Pretty cool since I amounted to absolutely nothing…

  166. Harvey looks like a bigger, handsomer Barry Beck, and he never smiles. Wonder if he can skate?

  167. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Dorsett is a bulldog. Will go with anyone. Better fighter than Prust IMO.

  168. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Islanders/pens resembles Rangers/caps last night with the vacillating lead changes…

  169. Since Tyson bit off part of his ear, he’s been called “The Real Meal, Hollyfield.”

  170. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Can you imagine if the Senators, Islanders, and rangers escape the first rd???? We have home ice against the Sens….

  171. I’m drinking a crappy, $23 box of Big House Red. Exceptional value for a tough, tight walletted, week

  172. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Manny – we are friends with the wine makers at Hahn and at Schied…..lots of free bottles :)

  173. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

MAF = MVP of the playoffs …..an absolutely amazing performance.

  174. I was not and am not afraid of the Penguins. Last year I said the only team I didn’t want in the first round was the Senators. Guess who we got? This year, only team I didn’t want was the Caps…..see how that turned out? It’s my fault, guys.

  175. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Manny – next time…. One of my colleagues has a turn of the century Victorian in Napa. We have a key. Next time you come out….

  176. Last bottle of Boulevard of Broken Dreams Vineyards I guzzled had a runny nose and stubbly legs. I should have known when the sommelier unscrewed the cap and handed it to me to smell.

  177. On the next flight, eddie!

Mrs. Manny just got home. I will make her pack now

  178. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

We will be in napa for a week in June or July. Drinking wine and eating seafood. That, and passing out…..

  179. One of the greatest pitching performance in Met history by Harvey. And zero run support by the bats. Shaaaashhheeeeshhh.

  180. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Wait till semester is over…. June I think is when we are going….

  181. manny

the rangers couldnt play the pens this well. we have no scoring the isles do.

torts system vs pens we would be crushed. come on

  182. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Eric – I think the Islanders will do us the favor of beating the pens…

  183. eddie

wouldnt mind seeing pens out i will root aginst isles next round however we arent beating caps

  184. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Eric – we win game 4, we win the series in 6.

I like watching this Fishsticks team – god strike me dead.

Also WTB was Howie Rose thinking? Islanders lead 5-3?

  186. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

You think the pens will pick up the universe when Philthy buys him out? LMMFAO!

  187. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

JoeM – “say what you will about his goal tending, but MAF has nice thighs”

  188. Just flipped over from the Mets game in time to see Fleury curl up into the fetal position on that last goal. Wow.

  189. the only enjoyment of seeing this comes at the expense of the pens.

seeing pens go out in 1st round would help me get over rangers lose to caps as long as isles dont win any more series

  190. Crosby’s such trash. Tackling players form behind with that fishbowl on his head.

  191. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Great ending. This series is going to be fun to watch from now on. Personally with that late hit from behind I don’t agree with Worth-a-Nickel-etti. Iginla definitely could’ve  tried harder to pull up on that boarding play on a player already going down.

  192. Stranger Nation on

Pissburg is o low class, hate that fugger LeTang – what a dirtbag

  193. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Who’s the play by play guy in the mtl/ott game? I forgot his name but not how much I hate him.

  194. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Mtl scored. Dammit, now I’m going to have to listen to that annoying guy even longer…. ugh

  195. Yep the play by play guy in this Ottawa/Montreal game is terrible. So dull.

  196. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Price looks like he’s got groin problems from that last shot

  197. This guy is as dull as dull can be. Sounds like he’s slower than Sam Rosen and that’s saying something

  198. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

He reminds me of the way actors talked when the “talkies” first got the screen. Nowhere near how real people sound. “I’m gonna get that guy, yeah, see?” Think of how mighty mouse’s mob villains always spoke.

  199. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Why aren’t the Pens’ announcers doing national broadcasts? They are the best in all of sports!!

  200. and since when does Anson Carter do studio work? Should bring back the dreads though

  201. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Hey copper – gonna try to arrest me are you – I don’t think so flat foot…..see, you’re not going to get me see….

  202. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

You sure that’s Anson Carter? Looks like they just put a suit on some bum on the corner in the bowery. He’s thin as heck now.

  203. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Bob Cole! Thanks, eric. It was on the tip of my tongue, I just couldn’t reach it.

  204. how can he not at this point fleury 2 years in a row has been beyond brutal

  205. we dont play a style condusive to beating pens. you need to attack and make them defend. we would be chasing skid and geno all night

  206. kenny albert and micheletti did the national broadcast tonight blacked out here in new york

  207. Tom Foolery on

Eric you are absolutely right. I had a feeling the Islanders would be the toughest match up for Pitt out of the bottom half of the East.

  208. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

I can’t count how many fights I had with Pitt fans on the thn forums last year about how crappy maf is.

  209. I thought the Islanders would be an interesting matchup for the Pens, but I figured they’d be the ones losing 6-4. I obviously gave Fleury too much credit.

I didn’t really watch game 1 – how did he manage a shutout?

  210. _Eric – a line of you me and CCCP could score 6 on MAF_

eddie x3, but the Isles have been scoring goals all year long… lets take Ovi for example, right? Ovechkin would be STIFLED under Torts just like he was under Dale Hunter but he is playing a lot better under more offensive minded coach like Oates… which leads me to my original point… its the _coaching_

  211. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Holy Moley, mtl in trouble. ON the plus side though, Budaj probably can’t pay top much worse than Price.

  212. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

In the east, the 6,7, and 8 seeds will advance. Amazing. We will have home ice in rd 2

  213. Dream scenario

    Rangers, Ottawa, Isles, Boston advance
    Rangers beat Ottawa
    Isles beat Boston
    Rangers beat Isles

    Rangers beat Detroit

    One can dream right?

  214. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

You suck, E3. I was halfway through typing that scenario into my comment when yours came up. lol

  215. Pens are going down. Crosby got hit early in the game and heard cuckoo birds the remainder of the night.

  216. If were playing the Pens in Round 1, Powe would have had 3 goals already , series would be over in game 4. :)

  217. the islanders beating the pens is something you need to see before you believe it. can they win 4?

  218. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Anybody else think Crysby’s new visor makes him look like the guy that powers up the Death Star?

  219. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

How come you can understand the reporters’ questions clearly at every post-game presser but Torts’?

  220. Because the reporters at the Torts pressors don’t make any sense.

    Just kidding Sir Carp

  221. _So, I guess Jack Capuano deserves the Jack Adams, right CCCP?_

No, but it is clear that it is possible to score goals with less skillful personnel _IF_ you have a coaching plan ;)

  222. Admiral Akbar on

Jackie Caps deserves no such Jack Adams award, not with that crow’s nest haircut…

Seriously, I’m more impressed with that Walrus that coaches the Sens. I seriously believe they are the toughest team in the east.

They have managed to be very competitive through a host of injuries to star players that would have decimated most teams. (Look at what happened to the Derbils and Florida, for example).

  223. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

3C, anything critical you have to say about Torts is gospel to me. He’s more than worn out his welcome. He’s gotta stop trying to get the players to buy into his gameplan and start shaping his damn gameplan to fit the players.

  224. Admiral Akbar on

I dont think the Rangers would be winning games 6-4 versus the Pens like the Isles just did, and like the Flyers did last year. The Rangers style is not to open it up and let it fly. It is more attack, counter-attack. Teams like Pittsburgh can be more ‘comfortable’ playing the Rangers and their style.

This is also why the Rangers consistently make heroes and Vezina winners out of mediocre goaltenders. They do not attack ferociously enough on net. They do not open games up.

  225. I have absolutely gotten on board with the notion that a large part of the PP and goal scoring problem is the coaching here. There is no reason why the PP set up is so ridiculously bad. And the Caps really only need a few good chances to score. The Rangers had a great chance to steal game 2 and go up 3-1 tomorrow night. Now I fear it may be the other way around.

  226. Who do the Isles have outside of Tavares?

Nash? Less skilled? Hank? Less skilled than freaking 90 year old Nabokov? Staal? Girardi? less skilled than Macdonald McDonald? stop that…really…

  227. Admiral Akbar on

Guys like Tavares and Crosby will make any coach look good.

Especially Tavares. He seems to be a genuine good guy who hasnt been contaminated by pressure to sell hockey games like Crosby, Ovie, Stamkos, etc..

  228. Admiral Akbar on

The Bruins won a Stanley Cup with a goalie who was 37, right? didnt the 37-year old Thomas win the Conn Smythe?

  229. Admiral, that’s the old Rangers. Before Boyle and Asham decided to become goal scorers. My God, now we’re the 80’s Oilers!

  230. Admiral Akbar on

Delzaster may be having his problems, but Chris Higgins flat out stunk for the Rangers.

I’m not gonna give up on MDZ or Kreider yet.

  231. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Stamkos seems like a good guy. He’s still got that youthful optimism about him.

  232. I like what Torts has done with the team, but I do think the Rangers offense is pretty predictable at this point.

Forget about the power play. Every rush up ice either is a dump in, or they try that single long pass out of the D zone to the guy at center ice who tries to touch pass it to one of the wingers.

I think the play worked one single time when Richards sent it to Nash who passed to Gaborik for a goal (maybe against the Bruins?) and the Rangers have been trying that same play ever since, with practically no success.

  233. Not much star power outside of Tavares. Still, he makes everyone around him better…

When you finish in the basement for a decade, you are bound to have some luck in the draft.

Rangers don’t have a home grown elite scorer to build around…just the facts….

  234. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Yikes. I didn’t realize the isles only had 24 shots. Way to go Fleurish!

  235. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

We have never scored 6 against Pittsburgh. Except the last time we played them at the Garden.

  236. Ok. you dont want Higgins.

then, How bout we get Luongo for Delzaster. Then we can trade Hank to Pittsburg for Crosby, Fluery and Cook, and Luongo back to the Islanders for Tavares and Martin?

  237. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Where the heck is Minnesota’s goaltending? they’re not going to win anything with Kuemper in net.

  238. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Canucks are the biggest chokers in the league over the last 3 years….

  239. Admiral Akbar on

I love Tavares, but I don’t think I could trade Hank for him.

Hank is as much a true Ranger is Leetch and Richter and Gilbert are.

Certainly more so than “Ranger legend” Dugay

  240. oh and there is that “basement” argument again… they only got Tavares for a decade of misery! Sure he’s good but look at the isles overall game… they have offensive structure… they know what to do when they get into the offensive zone… rangers do not. Fact.

I understand that you have to be consistent defending Torts, NYR_FAN… and i love our arguments on here (first it was Avery now its Torts) but you have to at least have a small thought about Torts stifling this team. Torts is one of those get in the last or next to last game into the postseason and be out in the first (aside from 2004)…check his coaching record. Another fact. :)

  241. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

E3, you can probably expand that time period to like….. ever.

  242. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Therrien’s whining about where the last faceoff was. What a bum. I guess there’s worse than Torts after all.

  243. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

And mumbling in English with a heavy French accent is never a good idea.

  244. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

The time space construct holds the key to the grand unification theory….

  245. Ok . How bout we get Eddie 3xs an autographed glossy of a shirtless Duguay and trade itto hime for a couple of Ozs of his Homegrown?

  246. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

How come one half of MacLean’s mustache looks like it’s trying to get away from the other?

  247. Admiral Akbar on

The Isles got lucky Tavares was available when they landed the first pick. They’ve got a lot of other nice players, but nobody close.

They don’t have a defensive team, they need to win games 5-4, etc. they are playing to their strength which is speed and offense.

RANGERS strength is defense. Thus they play a defensive minded game, where their best player night in and night out is their goaltender. Like the Derbils have done for years, with their best player being Brodeur.

Torts hasn’tt stifled this team. RennEy also had them playing defense first, although he had the benefit of a just-past prime but still really dangerous Jaromir Jagr – a once in a lifetime player to run the offense.

  248. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Eddie, nice appearance last night at MSG. Getting pretty grey, you are!!!

  250. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Papa – only if Duguay pinches his nipples.

Matty – age will do that to all goaltenders….

  251. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

They should get some fat defenseman because it would be harder to pass over them while they’re doing their beached whale impressions, 3C

  252. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Given all the defensive breakdowns this team has made, especially one MDZ, Hankster should be grey, too, E3.

  253. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Rangers win Game 4, and that car seat will be party central tomorrow night.

  254. Admiral Akbar on

The flip-flopping worked during the last 2 minutes of the last game.

Heck, Marty Brodeur has made a Hall of Fame career out of flipping and flopping around like a beached marine mammal in front of his goal!

  255. CCCP – I have to agree with you on that one. I don’t mind trying to block shots or trying to block a pass by going down to a knee. But I really can’t stand it when they flop to the ice because sometimes they just end up sliding out of the way and being way out of position.

  256. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Your 8:42 is 100% the problem and it is absolutely spot on. I honestly could not have said it better myself.

Goes right back to the d men standing the opposing forwards up at the top of the circles and turning the puck the other way, not having to make an offencive rush go 200 feet. Again, the problem is our vanilla soft d, not O

  257. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Just saw the highlights of the Pens v. Isles game. My o my, MAF wins the Bryzgalov award for worst goalie of the night!

  258. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

But MDZ is still young, he’s got time to…. god I hate when people keep using that excuse, don’t you? It’s about time that guy mans up and plays with a little intelligence. “Should I pinch, should I stay, should I pinch, should I…. oh Damn, too late, he’s past me.”

  259. Ok. Lets cut Delsaster and sign Eddie 3x’s, CCCP and Eric for our 4th line ( in case we play the Fleury and the Pens next round).

  260. Admiral Akbar on

Fender is coming out with a new electric guitar model:

    The DelZastercaster!

It’s only got 3 strings, no frets, but Fender likes its potential market….

  261. CCCP.

I am first one to blame Tortorella for Gaborik leaving. It’s all on him. Gaby wanted out.

  262. Admiral Akbar on

Did the Devils make Brodeur or did Brodeur make the Devils?

I personally feel the Rangers’ defense first mentality is based on their long rivalry with New Jersey. Only Sather would know for sure.

  263. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Crysby got hit with the puck in the neck. It juuuust missed. Dammit!

  264. the first*

Of course, Torts isn’t perfect. But, he’s better than Capuano.

  265. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Evrock – indeed… I was hoping against hope that the puck nailed Crosby in the jaw…

  266. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

Did anyone see Ott’s 1st goal? Holly crap, how did that count? it was clearly kicked in. They must’ve thought that he angled his skate to put it, which he did, but there was clearly a noticeable follow through towards the net. I can understand Therrien getting pissed at that one.

  267. We Will, We Will Evrock You! on

I got into an argument with a Tampa Bay fan at game 7 of devs/ Panthers about how hatred Crysby is. He thought everyone loved him. Tampa Bay must be so sheltered from the mean old world.

  268. That rule is just too subjective, especially when they start looking at replays in slow motion. But it did look like he made a motion towards the goal on that one.

  269. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Therien had right to be upset.

Ottowa is an impressive team. Well put together. Kind of like 50 years ago and Zsa Zsa Gabor.

  273. Stranger Nation on

Rangers need to play D first, 3 zone hockey because their D is not that good – undersized, unable to win battles and make a decent transition pass.
The O is instructed to get long offensive possession to prevent opponent from breaking out against the slow and undersized D.
Safe is death, it certainly feels like it as a Ranger fan…

  274. Stranger Nation on

Vancouver going for their annual early round exit.
Gabby should go play with the Sedin sisters

  275. Stranger Nation on

Wicky – agree with your 11;23

Bors-hard needs to get Richie’s PP time and this team will fly. He can carry into zone and makes great passes in tight spaces.

He will be the steal of that deal – 60 pts next year if they give him TOI and some line mates

Did the Devils make Brodeur or did Brodeur make the Devils?

    answer – yes

  278. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Stranger @ 11:28, Vibin’ big time!! Exactly. So obvious don’t know why everyone can’t see it.

And there are some who think our ‘d’ is the best part of this team? Huh? When Staal’s 100%, we have 3 d-men, and some ‘other guys’. Moore may get more useful in time. MDZ may get better (can’t be much worse, slower, or impulsive). Then there’s Stralman or Eminger. Yawn!!

Of the top 3, only MacD has speed and puck handling skills. And all 3 of them have average strength. For the thousandth time, some size on the back line has been an obvious flaw with this team for years. And, as Washington is showing, they don’t even need talent, just size.

  279. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

The Devils system didn’t hurt Brodeur, for sure, did it? How nice it must be to face 20 shots a night and most from the sides?

I always viewed him as their Mariano. Get through the defense first, trapping offense, the strong, big, tough defense with Stevens and Daneyko, and you have to face Mariano Brodeur. It better be a good shot.

There was a stretch when Jon Maclean took over the Derbils and moved to a more offensive system and Fatty started the season with, like a 3.8 GA until Mac got fired. Remember that?

  280. _3C 11:01, Complaining about Ice time already? We haven’t even signed you yet!_

well.. i have to look out for myself, you know… playing for Torts on fourth line… i might as well just stay home

  281. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Wicky – vibin on Brassard. I absolutely love his game. Softest hands on the team. He will be great during the SO next season.

Best trade Sather’s made outside Gomez for McD – and maybe even better than that trade after all is said and done…

  282. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

I picked Rangers, Islanders, Ottawa, and Toronto in the east. Could go 4-0.

In the west, SJ, LA, Chi, and Det. Making 8-0 possible….

  283. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

I am hoping for a Clowie sighting tomorrow night. I am hoping for a rolling of 4 lines tomorrow night. Ass-em has proven, with limited ice time all year, he has some play to him. Got to give him a chance already. The lines and players are there. Brassard, Boyle, Dorsett….we have the players now to roll.

Want to make a move, Torts? Put your $6M stud on the 4th line, like you did to Gabby. Let him excel there. He can’t be any worse.

Give some ice up to anyone but Richards and Pyatt, and you’ll be ok.

  284. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

every time Richards held the puck last night, the garden got silent.

  285. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Chicago series is over. Done. Minnie has flat out run out of goalies.
The call is going out to ……All World Bryz!!!!!!

  286. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Matty – did you see the Richards’ shot in the 3rd at the left circle that he missed by 20 feet? I swear, no disrespect, but it’s like he has a brain tumor.

  287. Lloyd Braun on

Richards hit a crossbar at one point, didn’t he

that’s about the most we can hope from him now

  288. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Yes, I did, Eddie. I’d like to believe it was deflected. Sam tried to help him by saying it was on edge (I watched Rangers in 60 and saw that). At the arena, some fans chuckled, some yelled out insults.

He’s so bad, more than 20-40% of the crowd knows it. It’s becoming a bit of a side show. Sad. In one year? Really sad.

  289. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Then again, once given the ‘big’ payday, he’s not the only one to fold on us. Gomez did. Drury did, too. These big contracts take away incentive.

  290. Lloyd Braun on

A terrible pass from Richards was also the reason Stepan missed a shot from in close by about 10 feet

  291. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Pavelski just tied the score with his 4th goal. The rangers have 5.

  292. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Yes, Lloyd. Correct. For the ice time he gets. 5 on 5 and PP, he needs to be much more productive. Worthless at this point he is.

  293. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

There are a number of impressive players here. Both sides. Strange, it doesn’t seem Vancouver is showing a strong sense of urgency.

  294. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Down the stretch, Richards was making some beautiful passes. He needs time and some space. Clowe coming back will be huge.

I saw the game here in St. Louis in the sports bar with several Blackhawks fans. Their game was coming up next. In fact I watched that one too. Those guys love Blowzie as much as I did when he was here. To a man, they all said he sucks!!

We all got a chuckle about MAF. They all hate the Pens because of the whining of Cindy and the blatant officiating in their favor.

  297. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Sharks are dangerous. But they could wind up waiting a week to play again. Long layoffs are bad for momentum. Too much time off.

  298. Finally, Eddie3, you got my drift.

But LGR won’t help much unless the team wakes up in the morning with a powerful epiphany.

  299. I wish, Eddie3, I wish. But after watching the Islanders last night, I became a little disheartened.

The speed and the spunk is just not there with the NYR. Not consistently there, anyway. Hence, very doubtful newbear….

New bear , don’t be doubtful. Seriously now the Rangers OWN the azzlanders. OWN them.

I’ll say this about the pens, if someone goes after one if their guys (Malkin) the whole team jumps in on the guy, love that mentality!

  302. did anyone watch the Tortorella interview today?
I was surprised to hear him saying he wants our defensemen to hold the blue line more.

He thought they were bailing out too early. Surprised to hear that

We don’t need to own them . We have MOMENTUM , yeah yeah Carp dosn’t believe in it but I do. We have IT and we don’t need it. Our t-a-l-e-n-t is good enough.

The Caps over pass .It will be there down fall.
