  1. Count Jeremy’s post for the contest! It is listed at the same time as the closing post.

  2. Paul in sunrise on

Carp us iphone users need you to video the interviews so we (I) can see them.

My many thanks in advance for your courtesy and cooperation in this regard.

  3. Carp, you are becoming famous. I’m watching the pre-game on NBCSN and they were showing a Stepan interview and there you were in the back ground.

  4. Not sure if anyone saw or mentioned it, but Stepan was named the NHL’s 3rd star for the month of April

  5. Great memories of Blake turning purple while Mess twisted his shirt and choked the carp out of him!!

  6. Wicky©Love the Clowe!! on

simon scaring the jock off of hamrlik at the beginning of the scrum and then beating the crap out of half the fishies

  7. Jeremy, since Latona asked nicely, you are allowed to put your predictions in the previous post … but do it soon!

  8. I like the part when Kramer tells the face painter to relax, that there are three (or is it four?) more games left and the series is far from over.

When, ever, do you know that there are three or four games left? Never. If it’s 2-2 after four, all you know is that there are at least two games left. If it’s 2-1 after three, all you know is that there are at least two games left.

  9. Carp, his entry is already in the previous thread. It just appeared after your “closed” post.

  10. Carp, he says there’s still three more games left, which is possible after Game 1 or after Game 2 if the teams split.

  11. Is This Real? on

Carp- Kramer is not concerned with semantics..Not sure but I think that there is also a point that they are supposed to be at MSG but the footage shows them wearing the then blue road jerseys. Absolute classic episode. Too bad no Rangers made guest appearances a la the yankees

  12. Latona, you are, truly, the man (or woman)! If I win and get any prizes, I’ll be sure to…thank you profusely! Thanks Carp for your generosity!

  13. Meant to say…hasn’t started*

    From the Star Tribune:
“Harding hasn’t started in the NHL since giving up two goals on four shots and being pulled 6:45 in against Chicago on Jan. 30. His lone postseason action came in 2008 when he played 20 minutes and stopped all 11 shots.”

  14. Sioux-per-man,

I certainly lived up to the league name. This bonehead got interrupted making his picks and returned too late to finish my bracket. So I am locked out after picking just the first round, bonehead that I am!

  15. Hey Carp,

Isn’t the dance from the Honeymooners? ‘Do the Clutterbuck! Do the Clutterbuck! If you don’t know how to do it, boy you’re outta luck”

  16. Anyone watching the Kings-Blues game? Way better! I think Ryan Reaves has delivered more hits in the first period than Semin has in his career, excluding that bongo solo on Marc Staal.

  17. Man, ilb, I wish somebody on NYR could rip a slap shot on net like Shattenkirk just did. Even a great goalie like Quick couldn’t control that rebound.

  18. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

No offense, guys, but our team is light years away from the quality of the Blues-Kings game.

If we get all 4 of our injured back, we are still not even close.

It is great hockey to watch. And, congratulations, JD, someone who knows hockey in putting together this big, strong, quick St. Louis team. Man, can they check!!! Wowowow!!!!

  19. Monster Nash– I think the rangers could hang with the other games pace. This is all St. Louis

  20. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

It is a good game and if we got Boyle dorsett clowe and Staal we are very close to the blues/kings

  21. blues or hawks cup finalist in west.

i had hawks over bruins in 7 back in january. wont change but my sleeper is blues all the way

  22. Unfortunately, Do to circumstances beyong my control, was unavailable all day and unable to post first round predictions. FWIW here are my predictions.

    Rangers over Caps in 6
    Pens over Islander in 6
    Sens over Habs in 6
    Leafs over Bruins in 6
    Hawks over Wild in 4
    Ducks over Wings in 7
    Canucks over Sharks in 5
    Kings over Blues in 6

    Rangers 2-1
    Ranger shots 24

  23. Doodie MaFezzik, unemployed in Greenland, 1.5 on

I picked impostORR over ORR and I’m sticking with it.

  24. One of my favorite novels, eddie.

I stood upon the blue line
    And saw, nearby, many Devils
    Skating, shooting,
    And carousing in sin.
    Marty looked up grinning
    And said “Come here! Donuts!”

  25. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – it is a great novel. One every US President should read before sending lads off to war. The Neo-Cons obviously never paid much mind to it….

  26. Soon as Gaborik’s contract is done I expect him to go to Chicago to play with his best friend Hossa.

  27. Crane’s best years were ahead of him, E3. A shame to lose him so early. Red Badge is outstanding.. love the concept of the nameless soldiers.

Lev, I was hoping NYR would have signed both Gaborik and Hossa way back when.

  28. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – as a Syracuse alum – Crane would have gone into sports broadcasting had he not turned to writing. He died far to early.

  29. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – that’s the point – they are nameless…. Might as well just have numbers assigned to them.. “Hey 231 go charge that hill”

  30. Olga Folkyerself on

    Here are my predictions:

    Rangers over Caps
    Hawks over Wild
    Bill over Due
    Way over Done
    Eggs over Easy
    Bombs over Tokyo
    Carp over 26
    Roger over Andout

  31. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – a contempory of Crane, Frank Norris, also died young …. One of my favorite novels – “McTeague” is his… I’ve charged Kooz with reading it… Someday he will get to it… Have you read it? It’s considered the greatest American descriptive novel by some…..not that “Red Badge ….” Isn’t…

  32. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – the battle sequences are written in a manner that puts you in the line of fire… You feel what Fleming feels. The pain, anguish, fear and shame.

  33. iDoodie Machetto, 1.5 on

Carp, who is wearing yellow? Dorsett? Same as in the special teams vid? Interesting that they have him killing penalties. Especially while being non-contact.

  34. I think everybody gets a turn on the PK in practice, since the real PKs are on the PP or hurt. Yes, that’s Dorsett.

  35. I read McTeague in high school, E3. Forgot most specifics of it but remember enjoying the themes throughout…

  36. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

NYR fan – It’s a classic tale where the three main characters are heroes and anti-heroes. So they are despised and loved at the same time…. You understand their motives…McTeague is a dentist – Trina his wife – Marcus their friend…

  37. I’ll check it out very soon, eddie. I’ve been needing something to read.

Speaking of railroad barons, I have a great idea for a political cartoon about Cornelius Vanderbilt, I just have to get around to creating it.

  38. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

    My brutha – it’s a fascinating story. Latona – it is a very quick read…. I couldn’t put it down….

  39. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – if you want 4 more 19th century American novels:

Henry James: The American. Washington Square

Nathaniel Hawthorne: the Marble Faun. The Blithedale Romance.

  40. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Like Papa, I was not able to get on by 6:45. Unlike Papa, I thought that was the cut off so I didn’t surrender my picks. I figured I was locked out. For what it’s worth, these are my picks:

    Rangers over Caps in 6
    Pens over Islander in 5
    Sens over Habs in 6
    Bruins over Leaves in 7
    Hawks over Wild in 6
    Wings over Ducks in 6
    Sharks over Canucks in 5
    Blues over Kings in 5

    Rangers 3-2
    Ranger shots 26

  41. Stranger Nation on

Is this a PO hockey blog or a 19th century comparative American Lit lecture?

    as you were…as you were….

  42. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Latona – If you like russian literature, Solzhenitsyn’s “In The First Circle” is brilliant too

  43. eddie, my only foray into Russian literature was Crime and Punishment. I should really become more versed in it. Thanks for the suggestions.

I may or may not have mentioned it before, but Scott’s Heart of Midlothian is one of my favorite, perhaps my favorite, novels. It’s a lengthy and pretty difficult read, but I found it very rewarding, and as far as I’m concerned Jeanie Deans is one of the greatest female protagonists of all time.

  44. Do both teams get credit for .5 of a game won since they made it to OT? It’s almost 5 mins into OT… BCATHGE?

  45. Why do you guys like the Blackhawks? How can you root against Bible Thumper Rupp and the MS Goalie?

  46. Bluto: Too late in the semester to start studying now. I’m headed down to the campus library with sirens to distract all the nerds who ruin the curve.

  47. Supposedly today is the day that Marty McFly went forward to in the future. April 30, 2013.

  48. I really hope that when Dorsett is ready we don’t lose Pow! Unless Dorsett is comfortable on the aggressive PK the Rangers have decided to play this season.

  49. They are big. And good. I think I once said they would win the cup………..

He won’t, Wick. I think the Rangers are being very cautious with him. I just want that darn grit in our lineup.

  50. At one point I had the Ducks winning the cup (not that my opinion matters) but now i have the Blues coming out of the West. Kind of wish I could change that back to Ducks…

  51. Haha. I love Back to the Future II. When Mrs. Manny told me about today being the Marty McFly day I inquired as to “where my hover craft is!”

  52. Stranger Nation on

Quick looked slow on the gaff in OT

Do we have the wrong Bickel, he asked rhetorically.

    Love watching Wings skate

  53. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

Wow. Just finished watching the Blues overtime. Not an error you’d ever expect from Quick at any time… playoffs or regular season. Go Blues!

  54. Stranger Nation on

Did Pierre do the color commentary on the Hawks game?

Now everyone knows where Patrick Kane went to elementary school…

  55. Stranger Nation on

Did I have a dubi flashback or was Ruff Ruff on his knees crawling to the bench?
    Can’t make this stuff up!

  56. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

When two guys were battling on the way down the ice McGuire said something like it’s Boston college vs. Wisconsin…. I’m pretty sure their ages were such that neither played against each other in any college.

  57. Stranger Nation on

That is one VERY annoying broadcast tandem. Doc and Pierre, no hair and less brains…

  58. Stranger Nation on

West Coast in da house my brutha!

California Golden Seal Root, shaka bra, blood clot, ya mon!!

  59. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Olga – Ducks owned the hawks this year… I bet you are hoping Det. wins.

  60. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

My brutha – you be in my state? Or you be referring to the duckies?

  61. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

I’m definitely one of the few, but I like Emerick’s play-by-play. When you get passed his annoyingly nasal voice, he’s pretty good. And now that he’s not the devils guy anymore he’s not much of a homer, unlike every team-specific guys. But if he ever gets paired up with Cheapo Wretched again for any reason, I’m going on a killing spree.

  62. Olga Folkyerself on

Eddie, anything that makes the Hawks journey easier.

    Go Detroit, for now.

  63. Dorsett is a huge Blackhawks fan, but should he meet them as a Ranger – he said, wait a minute…

  64. Oh, Eddie3, when you next talk to Latona, waxing belles letres, here’s some titles more poetically relevant to the past and coming playoffs : Marty Eden , IRON HEEL.

  65. wildplaces on

Nice article about Derek Stepan, Carp. How did we end up with so many players whose first names sound like derrick? Guess its the lunch bucket mentality!?

  66. Good morning, boneheads!

Some great games last night! Boy, those guys can really take it up a notch during the playoffs.

It’s already May, and our boys haven’t played a single playoff game yet. Well, much better than seeing them playing multiple golf games by now.

Dorsett mentioned something in his interview that it’s closing on 8 weeks, or it’s already 8 weeks. Something of that nature. Anyway, that’s about when those patients with uncomplicated clavicular fractures return to regular activities. Seeing how hard he is skating in his yellow jersey, looks like he may be the first one to be cleared for full contact. Of course, we have no idea what’s the rest of the injured players are doing at the moment.
