It’s Go Time! … Rangers at Panthers

The Rangers can clinch a playoff spot tonight with a win and a Winnipeg regulation loss in Washington. The Rangers can also clinch just by getting four out of the last six possible points, regardless of what Winnipeg (or Washington or Ottawa) does.

The Islanders can also wrap up a playoff spot tonight with a win and anything but a regulation win by Winnipeg.

A Winnipeg regulation win and a Rangers loss tonight could throw the whole picture into flux, with the Jets — at least temporarily, because the Caps have a game in hand — jumping into the third seed and Washington falling into a tie with the Rangers and Senators at 52 points, all three battling for the final two playoff berths. The Capitals have the first tiebreaker, followed by the Rangers. But the Rangers still would get in if they won their last two games.

Got that?

Game 46.
Rangers at Panthers.

Ya boys have won three in a row (scoring 18 goals in the three games), and are 8-2-1 in their last 11.

Same lineup. Henrik Lundqvist in goal (12th straight start). Marc Staal (eye), Brian Boyle (knee) and Derek Dorsett (clavicle) remain out. Roman Hamrlik and Matt Gilroy are prucha’d.

Other games that matter tonight: Winnipeg at Washington, Islanders at Carolina (and for seeding purposes) Montreal at New Jersey, Boston at Philadelphia.

Games that matter tomorrow: (for seeding purposes) Toronto at Tampa Bay.

Contrary to John G and Joe M, the first period so far has been meh. They need to step up their game. Tonight they have a chance to clinch a playoff spot. So far what they are doing is not enough and the longer the Panthers stay in this game the worst things could get tonight.

  15. I tell you one thing, when clowe throws a body check you hear the boards make a thunderous sound.

  16. If we’re gonna go anywhere in these playoffs, we need goals off scrums like that one. Skillful goals have as much to do with luck as they do with skill. Creating scrums and getting goalies out of position by going hard to the net shouldn’t be something that ever goes away on a nightly basis.

Keep telling us about how much time we are spending in the Fla zone Joe. After one PP and seven minutes of play in this period, we have 2 shots on goal, Fla has 1. Big wupp. And Fla has the lead.

  26. Coach Torts,

For what it’s worth, keep a close an eye on MDZ tonight. Also, please be careful about Richards and MDZ being on ice together.

    Thank you,

What kind of a weak ass shot is that by Pyatt? JoeM can ciount it as a shot on goal.

  28. anyone who thought tonight was going to be easy DOESNT KNOW WHAT THE LIFE OF A RANGER FAN IS

  29. this is why you don’t get to excited with this team. This is the worst team in the league, there is no excuse, this is brutal.

  34. I swear if we cannot clinch before game 48 I am going to die. It just seems that this team for whatever reason will be 8th, not above, not below. Seems like they have a lock on it. Beat excellent teams when needed, then play like poo against teams they should beat.

  35. iCCCP - Who Gives A Puck?! on

Is there another team in the league besides the Rangers that plays down to its opponent so much all the time?

  36. Czechthemout!!! on

There is no fire in their game tonight at all. It is like they are going through the motions. This Pyatt on the third line dream has to stop.

  37. The Rangers are down in warm beautiful southern Florida and we are stuck in this winterlike spring…

  38. To be fair, the Rangers did just play last night and Florida is one of the top teams in the league. Plus it’s the first home game back from a road trip, and it’s most of the rookies’ first game.

  39. Czechthemout!!! on

MDZ sure looks like he partied hard in South Beach last night. As do several others. Nash for one and Cally too.

So 150 seconds after first and 150 after second that 300 fastest seconds! Loving it!

  43. caps hit two post missed pp and stopped on breakaway with chance to put game away within 3 min of playing time

  44. So the Rangers have a time in their history considered to be their “sassy” period?

  45. Winnipeg losing to Caps – check, so far so good

Isles losing to Canes so Rangers could potentially move up to sixth by beating the worst team in the league – check!

Rangers unable to score against the worst team in the league, trailing by a goal and sending us all out onto the ledge again – check!

They need to take care of this now. Win tonight, wrap up a berth, dont let this turn into Carolina and Jersey having a chance to send them home. Step up and do it now.

  46. SalmonJoe won’t have any small talk left to yak about over after- game cocktails.

  47. eddie eddie eddie on

Rangers could play Boston and Montreal at the same time this playoff season and win

  49. Former Ranger Antropov doing us a favor by making it 4-3 in the capital. Lol. You can’t make this stuff up.

  50. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Rangers have the tiebreaker against the Isles, so a Carolina win either way is still good (as long as the Rangers win of course).

  53. As usual, this is shaping up to be an absolutely brutal night. This could actually be a brutal week.

  54. Man this is just brutal. Worst team in the league. Why bother getting in to the playoffs if you can’t win a game like this in this situation?

  55. iCCCP - Who Gives A Puck?! on

Totally unnecessary and totally horrible penalty by Richards might put an end to our season

  56. Kreider or Gaborik take that penalty, they wouldnt see the ice the rest of the third period…Richards? He takes it panthers score and he’s on ice for ensuing faceoff

And meanwhile Fishsticks grab another Bettman Bonus Point for appearing in the Breakaway Competition following their hockey game.

  58. Olga Folkyerself on

You know what it is? Florida has clinched worst in the league. They have no reason to lose anymore.

  59. I think Hagelin just tried the same move three times on the same shift and turned the puck over every time.

  60. Admiral Akbar on

Panthers are playing the type of game the Devils should have, played on Sunday.

  61. i’m done with richards. i wanna see this guy play well, but youre right vibz. everyone else mainly gabby would be benched for that. how many chances and no more drop passes!! its like the dz stretch passes from 2 years ago

  62. Florida’s scored on two deflection/tip ins. That’s one thing NYR don’t attempt enough of IMO.

  63. why does richy make the drop pass inside the blueline to lead to the pp. get the puck deep in a tie game and grind thats who we are

    anyone see nash tonight

  64. I just wrote in my notebook, Latona … when was the last time the Rangers had an intentional deflection goal? and how many have they had this season?

  65. are they really losing to Florida right now? And now that Islanders lost, the Rangers can get the 6th seed with a win tonight. Come on

  66. somebody should be explaining to the guys on the bench that Winnipeg lost and the Islanders only got one, and that with a tying goal and a win in OT they can be seventh and clinch.

  67. Someone would actually have to get in front of the net in order to score on a deflection

  68. Admiral Akbar on

Salmon Joe: “so now the door is open for the Rangers to clinch a spot in the playoffs…”

  69. Well, Carp, I think the last one was Stepan on Sunday against the Swamp Rats, but before that I couldn’t tell you.

  70. Carp – I can think of a deflection goal scored by this guy…what was his name…oh yea, Gaborik.

  71. Olga Folkyerself on

Rangers win and they clinch a spot. Rangers lose and the only thing that clinches is my sphincter.

  72. Playoffs just get in the way of black-tie events and nights on the town. They came to New York to have a good time, not play hockey.

  73. That linesman was super enthusiastic about ensuring the players knew there was no icing.

  74. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Maybe they need to shoot on the side of Markstrom’s net that’s the opposite of where his glove is.

  75. After the game they played against NJ, how can Callahan and Stepan go to Florida and play this poorly?

  76. i knew we would have a tough time again tonight against markstrom, but by the comments, it looks like the team got the “brian boyle aww red sox lost flu bug”??

  77. come on now, this pp has to get them in the playoffs. live and die by the pp. that’s the way it is in today’s nhl.

  78. youre really bringin me down eric. cmon man it all gonna be ok though. were gonna get in bro. were not winning a cup, so just dont set youre expectations too high, that way you never get too down, just like drury

  79. Agreed, Latona. Terrible night for the Capt.

That was an epic, epic, epic fail of not shooting crap.

  80. Richards blew this game for us, no doubt about it. Atrocious back pass, then the penalty, and then doing nothing on the PP for 30 seconds and then deciding to give it away.

Not that NYR should have even been in a position to let Brad cooke everything up so badly.

  81. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Seriously , pulling the goalie is giving up at this stage…

  82. Eric – I don’t know if they lose out but they will definitely not get 2 points in Carolina and it is going to come down to the Devil game

  83. Hard not to be disappointed in tonight’s game…the Rangers certainly didn’t look to be playing with any kind of urgency. And they sure did fire plenty of shots directly into the goalie’s chest.

Still only 2 points away from a playoff spot…but to lose to the worst team in the NHL? Very disappointing. And almost disheartening.

So much for imposing their will on a “weaker” team

  84. Awful, awful, awful decision to pull Lundqvist while on the PP. Just as stupid as it gets. Would now be 2-2. Huge mistake by Tortorella.

  85. Olga Folkyerself on

And the Gods looked down and laughed AGAIN.
Matter of fact, one of them leaned over and said, “That NEVER gets old…”

  86. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

Nope, not beating Pittsburgh. Perhaps not playing Pittsburgh, or anyone else for that matter.

And that’s exactly what they deserve.

Playing with desperation or sustained intensity? Apparently not possible.

  87. Yea Torts is stupid. Preschool common sense coaching always says you don’t pull your goalie during a PP because they can shoot from anywhere. How the hell does this clown keep his job. We could be doing miles better with this talent.

  88. ZzZz NYR ZzZz©" Don't Stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

If they didn’t pull the goalie the game would have been tied.

Only Morons pull the goalie that soon.

  89. The mistake Tortorella made was not going with 5 forwards on the PP. Not pulling the goalie.

You always pull the goalie with a late PP…

  90. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Everyone realizes that they need two points in two games to make the playoffs? And possibly 0 if the Jets lose in regulation.

  91. Sounds like a second guess but its not. You’ve got a man advantage down a goal with a buck 30 left. When there’s no risk of icing, why on earth, in the Rangers’ position, would you pull the goalie? Just stupid.

They just choked away their best shot at the post-season and frankly they’re gonna get killed even if they do get in so what’s the difference?

  92. Jeff they are confusing because Torts doesn’t know how to coach. We do great with certain lines so he decides to change them just when the players start to read eachother. He’s hurting the team more than helping. He also didn’t play 4 lines today. He just kills the top playing players each night.

  93. Czechthemout!!! on

What a disgrace!! Losing for the second time this season to the worst team in the league, with a chance to clinch a playoff spot and get to the 6th seed.

Nash, Stepan,Cally,Clowe,MDZ, should all be a shamed of themselves for the effort and performance they had tonight.

No freaking PP to speak of against the worst PK in the league. Way to go Sully!

Just awful! When Taylor Pyatt is your best player, you have just sucked up the joint BIG TIME!

  94. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

I don’t think you always pull the goalie with 1:30 left. Under a minute, yes. Complete 2nd guess, yes, but I said it a few games back when the same thing happened.

  95. Reginald Dunlop on

poor effort……….not enough grind……too many drivebys on chance to hit on forecheck..gave Florida idea they could win and they did……..still NOT a good enough team to do anything in playoffs……good teams DONT lose this game

  96. I am definitely fine with pulling the goalie there. You’re desperate for one goal and you have a two man advantage with the goalie pulled. That’s a high percentage play.

  97. Gravy

Just making the playoffs is nothing if they have to play Pittsburgh. We’d be lucky to get a win in that series, which is why this game was so important.

Getting the 8th seed is just a waste really

  98. Carp I like you. I’m not going to argue with you on you site. I think the coach hurts the team more than helps, and yea with the talent on this team we can do much better than the same thing over and over.

Also slow clap for the Panthers. The florida fan’s must be so proud of a franchise that can’t make the playoffs and does it’s best to spoil.

  99. And Im not saying this is anywhere near all on Torts, not a chance. This team has no business even being in that position to begin with, especially if they think they are going anywhere in the playoffs. But if we’re going to pick on Richards for the penalty, then we’re going to pick on Torts for what I think was a bad decision.

  100. well if we get in now it prob means 8th and pitt. when we lose to pitt in 5 should we get in think about tonight

ottawa playing in washington(locked into 3 seed) which means nothing to them on thursday now.

  101. “Christ. Seven years of college down the drain. Might as well join the freekin Peace Corps.”

  102. If Brassard doesn’t score with 36 seconds to go then we lose by two goals and pulling the goalie was a high percentage play that just didn’t work out.

  103. There was about 30 seconds left on the PP and 1:40 left in the game, right? Don’t pretty much all teams pull the goalie for the 6-on-4 there?

Right or wrong, it’s hardly some renegade coaching decision.

  104. ThisYearsModel on

It is looking more and more like 8th, and a four game wipeout by Skid and the Skidaddles. Mind boggling how many points they have let slip with crummy efforts like this.

  105. Czechthemout!!! on

Richards was one of the few forwards who played well tonight. That penalty call on him was a fuggin Joke of a call!

  106. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

_Just making the playoffs is nothing if they have to play Pittsburgh_

They are still the 7th seed and have a shot at the 6th. Obviously this is a bad loss, but have to keep some perspective.

  107. Cally was just awful tonight by the way, absolutely terrible. That happens, you cant be great every night, but this was a bad night to pick.

So in 5 years Torts has done what, coached them to a first round loss in which they blew a 3-1 lead no thanks to his antics, missed the playoffs in a shootout on the last day of the season, lost in 5 games in the first round, gone to the Conference finals as a one seed that needed 7 games to beat the 7 and 8 seeds respectively before succumbing to the 6 seed, and now this garbage this year. Is that really any better than Renney?

Just pointing it out for discussion.

  108. No matter what happened on that PP the game came down to that PP so the haters are going to focus on that and find someone to hate. If the Rangers don’t score, it’s focused on their PP unit rather than their coach. This way, it’s on the coach.

  109. “you morons who think we will beat pitt get a clue”
Eric serving drinks on the ledge I see. I’ll take a DOOM and GLOOM…neat!

Throw this game away, move on to the next that is all you can do! LGR!!!!!

  110. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

I’m not killing Tort personally with his decision. I just don’t like it with that much more than a minute left.

  111. The only saving grace is Ottawa is not playing well and the Islanders can very well lose in Philly next game so the Rangers might be able to get out of that 8th spot.

Just pathetic that only 5 guys showed up tonight against an AHL team…

  112. Disaster tonight all around…move on and get two in Carolina and some…is forgiven

  113. You go into the building of the worst team in the league- maybe the worst team I can remember in recent memory- and the building is half full of YOUR fans-and this is the effort you give them. Losing twice to Fla in the last month – you don’t deserve to make the playoffs- check out the last five minutes of the Islander game tonite to see what a real team looks like when they’re desperate. Embarrassing!!!

  114. Czechthemout!!! on

Torts was right to pull the goalie. What he needs to do is take the PP away from Sullivan, he is killing us with his coaching of it. And why is Moore not out to start the PP? He is a much netter option than MDZ and Girardi.

  115. Stick together Boneheads!
    Strength in numbers!
    Power to the people!
    We shall overcome!

  116. I seriously don’t get why no one is mentioning this: If the Rangers played the WHOLE GAME with as much intensity and desperation as they did in the final minute, they would’ve ran away with this. Blame Richie for the penalty, Torts for pulling the goalie, the entire PP for an awful showing…if the Rangers showed some semblance of desperation for 60 minutes, we’d be sitting comfortably in the 6th spot, guaranteed to make the playoffs.

  117. Look: With 8 games remaining we had to go 8-3. We have now, with two games left, gone 4-2. That means, in the remaining two they just need to win *one* game.

  118. Fair enough Carp. That and the real origin of the ledge mentality are a discussion for another day.

  119. I think this team has above average talent. It is the reason many “experts” had the Rangers ranked very high early in the season. My guess is the new guys gave a nice jolt to the team and eventually will fall into the same boring system which makes creating playes difficult.

I’m sorry im not scared of chihuahua face. I see right throught the guy and his lack of coaching ability.

  120. I don’t know why everyone is so sure it was a bad decision to pull a goaltender. 6 on 4 is 6 on 4. You take your chances with 1.5 min to go. Had they scored, everyone would consider that a brilliant move.

  121. ThisYearsModel on

You don’t pull the goalie when they can ice the puck. When the PP is over…pull the goalie. Then again, this game is not on the coach. Weak, weak effort by the players.

  122. Slatsko Folkyerself on

Don’t complain about the coach for the last five years. What about Sather’s last 13 years?

  123. Oh…and the Rangers don’t even *need* to win a game. Winnipeg could just lose to Les Habs on Thursday night.

  124. Czechthemout!!! on

Again, Richards was one of the few forwards who played well tonight. The penalty called on him was a fuggin joke! A few minutes earlier, they could have called the same thing on Zucc, but rightfully, did not.

  125. I thought Richards played well, but I thought it was a penalty by him taking down Brennan. It was also another weak, too cute pass by Richards that turned it over, creating that rush where he took down Brennan.

I have never been a fan of pulling the goalie on a PP and for what? 15 seconds of 6 on 4? What about the Rangers play all night (one and done, most of the night) led the coach to believe they could sustain possession in their own end to warrant giving Florida carte blanche to ice the puck towards a vacant goal.

Granted it shouldn’t have come to that. All I can say is good thing Florida isn’t in the playoffs because the Rangers seem to have a tough time with them.

  126. And the call on Richards was questionable, to say the least. The guy leaned on Richards and fell. I don’t think Richards touched him with his stick. Florida played game 7, the Rangers didn’t bring enough desperation. Off to Carolina.

  127. You ALWAYS pull the goalie in that situation. 2 men up, the other team shouldn’t get a chance to control and clear.

The mistake was Tortorella not playing his best 5 guys to start that PP. No reason why Girardi is playing over Zuccarello (who was the best player on the ice tonight)

  128. Considering the power play I don’t know why anyone would consider removing the goaltender from the equation.

I’m not trying to be snarky here, but has no one here watched this team all season long? They can barely make a forward pass on the power play. Why would you trust them to keep the puck off the sticks of the penalty killers?

  129. Czechthemout!!! on

Yeah, what we need to do is back into the playoffs. That will sure give them and the fans a lot of confidence and excitement when they face what is certainly going to be a beat down of epic proportions against Pittsburgh!

  130. Rob in Beantown on

I was in favor of pulling Hank. I tend to want my teams to be aggressive in pulling the goalie sooner rather than later. I agree its a high percentage play on the PP

  131. ILB 10:22 in fairness, Rangers got an even up call. Penalty on Nash was weak as well.

Refs let the teams play for most of the night. Those two penalties, not necessary to call, IMO.

  132. my problem with richards there was the drop pass inside the blueline that led to the call. why not a high percentage play

  133. Czechthemout!!! on

This Nash’s worst game of the year by far. He was awful!

    Stepan sucked as well.

    Cally sucked big time.

MDZ ‘s head was in a night club in South Beach. He sucked!

  134. Call on Richards could have been diving on Burns as well. Refs never call diving anymore.

  135. A “high percentage play” is something that, more often than not, generates a positive outcome.

Pulling a goalie has never been a high percentage play, whether on the power play or not. That’s like calling a Hail Mary pass in football a high percentage play.

  136. The counterpoint to that, Jeff, is that if the PP is so bad (which it usually is), why waste 30-40 seconds of time letting it not score on the 5-on-4, when your chances are higher with another extra man? Risk of beng scored on from long range is there, of course, but pretty defensive move not to go for it.

  137. 3C @ 10:29 – that would be very ironic, we knock them out, they knock us out a week later. We better win in Carolina Thursday.

  138. With all if their “talent”, they should have been able to control the puck and score with a 2 man advantage. Right?

  139. Rob in Beantown on

Jeff, its relatively high percentage compared to not pulling the goaltender. Its also a desperation move, obviously. You do it in part to shake up the game because if nothing changes you lose anyway.

  140. they took the body Sunday. Not so much tonight. Be nice if we had a few shooters on this squad.

  141. sorry guys but IF we do get in i don’t see how its not 8th now and the pens. that’s what tonight loss will mean down the road

  142. I don’t agree that you “always” pull the goalie on PP as opposed to even strength. If the Rangers had their fore check working and are maintaining prolonged possession in the other team’s zone, perhaps. But this was not one of those games.

Then again, if the Rangers had their fore check working all night, they wouldn’t have been down in the last minute.

  143. Olga Folkyerself on

The big flaw with pulling the goalie is that they relied on the Rangers power play to score. I thought they were toast when I saw Richards on the point.

To quote Rocket J. Squirrel- “That trick never works!”

  144. prediction time

1-1 game under 10 mins to go in 3rd period vs the devils.

    season on the line.

draw your own conclusions from there bed time im done for tonight

  145. Eighth, possibly 7th if Ottawa continues to plummet. But the Rangers ain’t catching the Isles now.

  146. Why the h-e-double-hockey-sticks couldn’t we draw Pittsburgh last year?

Fleury is a French word meaning ‘flower with many holes”.

  147. Did not see the whole game but I did see RIchards penalty that allowed the pansises to go on the PP in the 3rd. then RIchards refused to shoot in the PP.

his rebirth lasted about 3 games max.

again did not see the whole game but the quality of shot on Markstrom was nothing difficult..

nash no show, stepan not his best effort…
nothing easy for this team. lost to the panthers twice this season. this team are a bunch of mental midgets…

  148. Kreider with asham and powe, he might as well play by himself.

sam rosen with the astute observation Powe has no points for the season.

  149. If this soporific bunch causes me to miss golf on Saturday, I will be seriously dismayed.

  150. On the bright side, Zucc played very well tonight. Seemed like he was the best forward carrying the puck through the neutral zone and gaining the blue line.

  151. Admiral Akbar on

Before the game, DuGuay said the Rangers needed to play physical against the Puddy Tats in order to win this game…

They were hardly physical, and the Puddy Tats spoiled the clincher.

    DuGuay called it right.

  152. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

Just got home and the only positive I got from the game was I finally got to boo this team and heckle torts. Oh yeah, and I got to meet Balcony Bob.

  153. Lots of help for Zuccs when he gets jumped. Richie (though he did stick his tooth in) and Pyatt, who looks like a Goth on Xanax.

  154. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

Absolutely pathetic. They must’ve played some golf whole down here and decided they’d rather be playing that.
    First period: great road period
After the Panthers first goal: pathetic
The five minutes between our 1st goal and their 2nd: great
    After their 2nd goal: pathetic
Last minute of the game: Not pathetic.

  155. good gawd
i should be a betting man
should have wagered on tonight’s game
    because if there’s one thing
    these Rangers are is consistent
    as in
just too easy that the team
would play worse than the worst team in the league.

  156. Czechthemout!!! on

That is because I am always fair in my critique. :)

But seriously, I dont have any favorites on this team. My favorite IS the team. I give some players a little more rope than others because they deserve it ,but I think I am usually fair.

When I rip Boyle it is really a dig at Torts fir over playing him. And MDZ has not recieved any real abuse from me untill the last thrree or four games because he has been awful in them. Prior to that, he was good for about a month. The Kid is just not consistant and is now being totally outplayed by John Moore to be honest.

  157. Admiral Akbar on

DE Zaster was relatively invisible in this game — which isn’t necessarily a bad thing…

  158. Admiral @ 11:01, ” Is Mike Woodson the opposite of John Torterella”?

Well he’s tall, black, bald and does well with the media. The evidence is in.

  159. Just a reminder — this team lost to the worst team in the league in one of the most important games of the season.

Think of that every time you read one of those articles about how player X REALLY CARES and how much it HURTS HIM to be playing poorly.

  160. Czechthemout!!! on

What is scary is just how bad Boyle really is on offense. Pyatt is getting his minutes on the third line and has actually produced some points. I think he has 2 goals and 2 assists in the 4-5 games that Boyle has missed. It is remarkable that that is almost all the production Boyle has this season.

  161. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

I’ve been to every stranger/panther game in south Florida since I moved down here 7 years ago. This is the first time I’ve felt embarrassed wearing my stranger jersey.

  162. Admiral Akbar on

    Stranger —

I was going for: Woodson more relaxed, less ascerbic, somewhat more zen-like…

But one could also say Woodson is… taller, bigger, has more melanin, has less hair….

    ….and is IN the playoffs!!

  163. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

7 rookies played for Florida tonight including the goaltender and a couple more who’ve only played a handful of games before this season.

  164. I always get a bad feeling about these games too. I think i’m calmed down now. Just disapointed. I will blow a gasket if the Rangers lose in Carolina though. We are just asking for a collapse if we decide our playoff hopes in NJ.

  165. Told you guys. These no-talents absolutely deserved to lose. Epic bush-league as expected.

  166. Stranger Nation on

Admiral – actually saw a great profile on Woodson and how he well he gets along with the players – but the sports and the players they coach are apples and hand grenades.

  167. Absolutely a terrible loss to the worst team in hockey. Everybody played like crap and the coach was a smuck in rolling only three lines. They could hardly stand at the end. Carp, still thinks your coach likes Kreider. The poor guy was picking splinters out of his ass all night. When the hell is he ever going to become better. DZ, Richards & Cally didn’t get it done. This is team is one freeken enigma.

  168. Stranger Nation on

Papa (11:11) – shampoo in his eyes it was reported, needs to switch to ‘no more tears…’

  169. I was. Spent like $200 to watch this circus-act. Bury these clowns already.

I, for one, am rooting for two loses.

  170. Admiral Akbar on

    This is classic Rangers hockey.

We’ve all seen this stuff before from this team.

    It will never ever change.

  171. Czechthemout!!! on

If it comes down to the Devils game on Saturday, the fans will have to chant to us that the season is over.

  172. Ah ok. You absolutely know the Devils would do everything possible to spoil a playoff berth. The Rangers must not let this happen.

My apologies to Torts as well. He doesn’t look like a chihuahua.

  173. Olga Folkyerself on

I don’t see Cup from this group.
Unless you mean the cup on the golf course green.
    THAT I see from them.

  174. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

The first game against the Panthers, Markstrom was stellar. This game we made him look like Patrick friggin’ Roy. 38 shots. Probably around thirty of which were from the outside and directly into Markstrom’s chest.
Too much passing to the outside from the middle. Stop being selfless and start being selfish. Take the Damn shot. Not that our passing game was anything to write home about tonight..

  175. Why does Sam Rosen keep on interviewing this putz of a coach. Answers with such contempt and disrespect

  176. Stranger Nation on

This was a GREAT night not to watch this team. Turned on beginning of 3rd period, saw the score and turned it off,

    doctor’s orders…

  177. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

The strangers fans on this blog let me down too. I waited outside the team store between the 1st and 2nd and not a single bonehead showed up. Bush league.

  178. Admiral Akbar on

They looked like they were playing with effort. Gotta give the Puddy Tats some credit.

Shot selection should have been better, and I would have liked to see some more physical play.

  179. Olga Folkyerself on

All those interviews after losses are all the same.
“Blah, blah blah blah, look ahead to next game. Blah blah blah blah need to try harder. Blah blah blah blah have to focus. Blah blah blah blah, we’ll get past this.

  180. Admiral Akbar on

The Derbils are licking their chops…

Kovalchuck’s bum shoulder will miraculously heal,

Marty will turn the clock back 15 years,

Henrique will find himself amongst the ice-angels again,

Elias will find peace and calm,

DeBoer will get his contract extended…

  181. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

Btw, the power play has looked pathetic lately. Yes we’ve shouted a few but take a look at the amount of shots they’ve taken with the man up. I don’t know the actual number but I’m betting it’s less than the amount of power plays we’ve had since our first two against Florida on Thursday.

  182. Just got home from the game….
Zucc was the best Ranger on the ice tonight
    Cally was off tonight
Girardi couldn’t keep a puck in the zone all night long
Zucc delivered the best Ranger hit of the night in the defensive end
No urgency til the last 30 seconds
Richards coasted all night…Pyatt scores the other night and Horseteeth trying to set him up every time down the ice
Richards tries one of his breakout passes for the other team to Pyatt again and then takes the penalty where the go ahead goal is scored. As soon as he comes out the box he’s out there again.

Then on the late power play where the Pansies score the empty netter….Richards out on the point. I thought of Carp…beside himself like me.

Just another visit to South Florida where the Rangers play down to the competition….Panther fans have had nothing to cheer about for weeks…were happy tonight.

Seemed like 2/3 of the crowd were Ranger fans….another typical loss to a bad team down here.

  183. We should crash the defense with Ash, Haley, and Dorsett, with the speed of McD and Moore pinching all first period where their defense won’t or can’t come out for the second.

  184. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

I missed the game (thank the lord!!) but it is funny reading some of these comments. thanks!!!

  185. Captain Oveur:
You ever been in a cockpit before?

No sir, I’ve never been up in a plane before.

    Captain Oveur:
You ever seen a grown man naked?

  186. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

Btw, worst penalty kill in the league? Florida. That’s pretty much par for the course with this bunch ain’t it?

  187. Didn’t see much of Kreider…made some good plays defensively

Would like to see more of Moore

Nash made great move early in the game then not much the rest of the night

  188. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

Last week’s Hockey News (don’t know why I’m bothering to capitalize it) ranking of Florida:

Worst team, I the worst division + fewest points in the league = easiest ranking ever.

That about sums it up, huh?

  189. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

ONE GAME! I look forward to one game all season…. the Rangers in town. Thanks a lot Jackholes.

  190. Evrock Around The Clock Tonight on

I hope they remember to pack their golf clubs for the trip home. I’ll probably be seeing them again down here soon.

  191. Torts is holding a lot of players back… he admitted that himself… so as long is this CLOWN coaches this team things will never change :D

  192. Sat in front of the Panther dancers…..a little strange at a hockey game….but not bad to look at

  193. Richards to girlfriend: “Of course I get paid no matter what. What kind of question is that?”

  194. typical Rangers hockey and typical Rangers fans… this team plays somewhat 3 most balanced games of the *entire* season and we award them with Stanley cup lol

    we’re pathetic and gullible

  195. Olga Folkyerself on

I’m out. A half dozen Gin and Tonics couldn’t wipe out the foul taste of this loss.It smells like burning rubber.
    Here’s my prediction:
    8th place.
    Out in 4.
    Pitt-Hawks Final.
    Toews lifts Cup again.
    Sather drops dead.
Rangers go to finals within 3 years.

  196. Admiral, don’t know if you are still out there, but so true, I kind of had a feeling they wouldn’t win tonight, be too easy, predictable, perhaps because I just watched the 94 cup film with the fans and reminded me how stressful that was and how they were supposed to win the cup in 5 or 5 or 6, but finally did in 7, Keep up Hope

  197. Richards with 31 points in 46 games…not too shabby, actually. He gets killed on here a lot, tho lol
