It’s Go Time! … Penguins at Rangers

Game 36.
Penguins at Rangers.

So the trade deadline came and went and the Rangers kinda blew up their roster. So Marian Gaborik is gone and the Rangers are back to having one legitimate first-line player, just as they were before the Brad Richards signing.

Ya boys have won one in a row as they begin a home-and-home with the Sid Crosby-less Penguins, who should be snarly after having their 15-game winning streak stopped in Buffalo the night before.

Ryane Clowe, Derick Brassard and John Moore make their Rangers debuts. Henrik Lundqvist starts in goal. Chris Kreider was sent to Connecticut (AHL), as was J.T. Miller, who was then recalled. No idea who is playing where tonight. Roman Hamrlik is prucha’d.

From what I’m being told, the changeover to the new-look format happens Thursday afternoon around 1 p.m. (fingers, toes crossed). Should be better for the mobile devices (fingers, toes crossed).

Here we go. Another new era. Another restart. Don’t expect to win. Hope we dish out some pain.

  2. 8-5 Carp. No worse. I’m calling it now.

And now that I know Milbury hates the trade I absolutely love it (s)

  3. Za'rat "The OTHER GUYS Greed" Jones on

So we basically traded Gaborik for Clowe? That’s what it is at the end of the day. So that’s it? We officially gave up on the season? That torts presser was disgusting and embarrassing as a fan. They have him quoted and he tried to deny it. Fire Torts!

  4. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " no Gaborik , no problem!!!"...says Greg L. on

    GO TIME!!!!

lets go gog gog gog og gog go gog!!!

  5. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " no Gaborik , no problem!!!"...says Greg L. on

    yeah baby , ready n Rar N!!!!!

  6. Whatever Milbury and Jones have been saying and whether you agree with them or not, I suspect they have close to zero insight about what might happen with the Rangers. But they do the sound and fury thing very well.

  7. Gift of GAB-orik-ohio on

Let’s see what this rag tag band of misfits can do….

  8. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " no Gaborik , no problem!!!"...says Greg L. on

GO GO GO GO GO GO!!!!!!

  9. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

The trade wasn’t too bad, except for the players they got and including Gaborik.

  10. Waffle board success on

I think by the end of the year carp playing with Nash, Stepan is going to take a big leap.. I could be wrong, just how I see it

  11. I can’t think about the Gaborik trade…

Still can’t believe we got no 1st rounder!!!

    It’s OK…we have Brass

  12. Gift of GAB-orik-ohio on

Mama…. I don’t know…. I’ll have to give it more thought than Torts gives about the line combos.

  13. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Malkin a UFA after next year…buyout Richards, sign Malkenstein!

  14. Czechthemout!!! on

No matter who comes to this team, Brian Fugging Boyle is always penciled in firmly on the third fugging line!

And what a jerk the rat faced coach is. So now Carp cant even ask this arrogant jerk a question?

I dont think its funny, I think it is an embarrasement to the orginization.

  15. Hey kidz. How have the Gaborik meltdowns been?

I’m personally okay with the trade, although I would have liked at least a high 2nd rounder. Oh well. It was him or Brad Richards and no team is stupid enough to take on that bum’s cap hit at that many years. Maybe figure something out for him in the future. One more year/try and then amnesty?

Excited to see Clowe already in the linuep. Hopefully he finds his “scoring touch” hehe 0 goals so far with the Sharks.

  16. Oh enough, Czech….Boyle has nothing to do with anything…but off course, he remains your whipping boy

  17. cub, only reason I think they’ll make the playoffs is because I have tickets for the last game of the season, and I have an incredible record at MSG (probably just jinxed myself). I think they’ll edge out the Devils for one of the last spots by winning that game.

  18. CCCP April 3rd, 2013 at 12:56 am
Trading Gaborik next season will bring the picks back ;)

    LOL! Thanks again, CCCP.

  19. So I move from Ohio back to the east coast two years ago after spending two years out there, and now I am watching the Blue Rangers??? WTF!!! I hope his trade works out…

  20. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Maybe the master plan is for Clowe to concuss Malkin, knock him out for a year, making him more affordable for the Rangers to sign in 2014.

  21. Wel-Clowe-mmm to the Rangers on

Had to try it out…. see if it fits. This is just a rough draft :)

  22. Czechthemout!!! on

I have nothing personal against Boyle. This is strictly about hockey. As a hockey player he SUCKS!!!!! As does the idiot coach who continues to try and fit a 3 lbs piece of meat into a two pound bag with him.

  23. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

How long do I have until I tell my daughter she has to turn off Nick Jr.? I know I usually get an extra 10 from NBC.

  24. So, I am. So glad I sold my tix for tonight. Might get rid of the rest of the year, too.

For anyone there. What’s the atmosphere like at MSG? Any ‘Fire Sather’ chants yet?

  25. Just in case Pierre doesn’t find the time, Moore used to be a Kitchener Ranger, Brassard a Drummondville Voltigeur and Clowe a Rimouski Océanic.

  26. Gabby (and you always be Gabby to me) I meant the Clowe-Mo-Bras-set!

But I kind of like the other one….But it’s also Clowe….

  27. Gift of GAB-orik-ohio on

The key tonight will be offense. If our defense is offensive, we’ll have to defensively play offense. If defensively we can generate offensive chances, we’ll have a good shot of our defense shutting down their offense, and keep play in our offensive zone.

Don’t get defensive about our offense. Hope that our defense can contribute offensively.

…..oh no i’ve gone cross eyed.

  28. Just curious…I read a story recently about JD and his role in Columbus and what’s he’s hoping to do there, like he did with the Blues….mighten he have had a role in the dealio? Even if short term with Gabs?

  29. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

I don’t think the crowd knows what players to root for.

  30. Gift of GAB-orik-ohio on

2 posts for the Pens… hockey gods must be pulling for the Rangers tonight!

  31. Richards the Friendly Ghost on

maybe we should watch film of pittsburgh’s pp and try to copy it

  32. only a matter of time guys. just dont let the pens embarrass us!! another man left alone in front!!! wtf rangers

  33. Right next to me Latona….I thought that was clear :)

    btw, i haven’t had a boastful lunch in ages…..

  34. Ralph fron N.M. on

I hope they trade Krieder so that he can have a great career . As long as Torts is here he won’t have a career here

NYR_FAN we got 2 first round picks , two outta the three are first rounders man.

  36. Yeah, I know, Greg. The problem, though, is that they were picked by Howser…

I think it’s a smart hockey move for a few reasons but we still need to replace that production. Not sure how the Rangers plan on addressing that…

Look, I am just a big Gaby fan…especially after last season…I know, it’s business, not personal….part of the game…

  37. Gift of GAB-orik-ohio on

Penalty called on the Penguins? Oh fortune… thy name is referee!

One of the weirdly spelled names will score a PP goal!

Brasssarddddd nice!!! I love him on xbox!!!!

  39. holy canoli. nice moves brass and richie on the point? ok thats 2 pp goals for him from there. cmon richie get your confidence back!.

  40. Gift of GAB-orik-ohio on

    haha Richards says Gaborik who?

Nice pass by weird spelled name guy!

  41. Wait, I was writing my column (about how I dislike the trade) and didn’t see it. So I ask you,
    1) Was it a PPG?
    2) Was Richards on the point?
    3) Were Boyle and Clowe in front?
    4) Did Brassard make a nice pass?

    What in holy hell?

  42. Clowe for MVP. this guy is really making a difference in the Rangers offensive zone

  43. Gift of GAB-orik-ohio on

The planets have aligned, and the universe will now implode. Gaborik is gone, Richards is on the point, and the Rangers had a successful powerplay with a body in front.

WTG CCCP , yer spot on!!!!

LETS gog gog go gog gog og og!!!!

  51. BY the way, they credited Boyle with the goal, I believe (as Clowe was scoring)….Carp, can you confirm?

  52. Thats a good start.

where are all the idiots complaining about Clowe and his goal production now?

  53. I didn’t even realize gaborik was traded. Seems like we got some good players in the deal. Gabby was on the downturn anyway. He was the glass without the cannon this year.

  54. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

I’m missing it all…two shows recording on the DVR and getting my son ready for bed. Is it as good as it sounds?

  55. Paging Doodie…paging Doodie…need reconfirmation on how much Clowe blow lol

And yes, I understand this is just one game…

  56. We demand a do-over of the fist 35 games! No one ever told us they counted after the lockout ended!

  57. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " no Gaborik , no problem!!!"...says Greg L. on

Clowe looks like Rupp but with brains.

  58. who is this team? crashing the net….sticking up for each other….scoring…..Gabby was really that much poison for the rest of them?

  59. Gift of GAB-orik-ohio on

You put the cart before the keystroke Carp!

    Trade does a body good!

  60. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Cccp – you and I both predicted Clowe scoring tonight. Hope all the haters come back ’round

  61. Gravy, yes

and carp, it’s only one game….though I know that’s no help….wouldn’t want to be you now :)

  62. Meanwhile on Penguins Report:

“Again, the team not prepared to play, meaning the players have definitely tuned out the mouse faced jerk. You think Beau Bennett couldn’t score more than the coach’s son, zero point Tanner Glass? But he’s in the minors just to purposely ruin his development.”

  63. Anybody know who the not Kenny Albert guy on the radio is? Not the same without Maloney.

  64. Olga Folkyerself on

    What’s all this then?

    3-0? Huh?

My fall back position is still FIRE SATHER.

  65. were actually clearing the puck well wth? Looks like a completely different team.

  66. If Moore pans out, this could be a good trade. They were a better team last year. Nash>Gabby. Next year they could be a better or equal version of last year’s team. But there are a lot of buts.

  67. that was one of the best first periods I’ve seen them play in a long time. Unbelievable!

  68. Czechthemout!!! on

Very nice period. Certainly not soft like most of the year. I know its one period but great start.

  69. Carp- I imagine you’ll be busy rewriting your column between periods…E3 missed your wit and wisdom today :-)

  70. Gift of GAB-orik-ohio on

I said a weird spelled name guy would score a PP goal. I just didn’t realize it would be Bryan

The Rangers are scoring goals and Clowe-ing back for more!

  71. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Great trades!!!"...says Greg L. on

Just waitttt till Dorsett comes from injury …hes the real gem out of these guys. Rangers are deeper in the middle now .

  72. They are taking the body. They are playing with a physical nasty edge. All things totally missing this year and so effectively done last year.

  73. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

It’s only one period, but if we get in look out. This team has finally grown some balls.

  74. Za'rat "The OTHER GUYS Greed" Jones on

my TV is screwed up. It keeps showing 3-0 for Rangers. I unplugged the box twice and the glitch is still there. Anyone else having the same issues?

  75. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

    What energy…..what confidence…what fun

I sure hope this isn’t temporary.

  76. Richards is playing well? I guess Gaborik was bad for *chemistry* like Sean Avery.

  77. duckbill platypus on

At least the Rangers look to be a sort of fun team again…no?

    Le Duckbill

  78. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Great trades!!!"...says Greg L. on

HAHA Olga , yeah it was looking like everyone wanted his head …now we’ll see . Old man Sather is senile and very brave . No GM in his shoes would EVER trade Gaborik. It took guts. One thing is Sather knows when he is wrong and he fixes it.

  79. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

As said during the Montreal game (for very different reasons), grab a beer or some ice cream.

    Savor this.

  80. Salutations, ducky! I inquired as to your whereabouts last night, verily did I miss you, the affable monotreme.

  81. Gift of GAB-orik-ohio on

Best period of the season. Period. If we have more periods like this the rest of the season, we’ll have a good season. Period.

  82. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Great trades!!!"...says Greg L. on

Alright now lets hammer these Penguins into another streak…LOSING streak!!!!!

LETS GO LETS GO …umm is it just me or does Hank look a lil shaky?…LETS GO LETS GO RANGERS!!!!!!

  83. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

latona, many thanks for pondering the whereabouts of this self deprecating duck. Many times this duck has feared imprecation from fellow boneheads but when one is banqueted with good thoughts it leaves this duckbill ‘bonehead’ platypus with a smile.

  86. he’s doing radio in Maloney’s spot, Manny.

Kenny Albert reminded me that he did last year’s trade deadline game and when Sather walked into the press conference and saw him, he said, “Stemmer, the buffet’s in the other room.”

  87. Za'rat "The OTHER GUYS Greed" Jones on

We fixin’ to blow the doors off these jokers!

I mean, penguins. I confuse those two characters a lot.

  88. Richards looks like he wants to be a driver now instead of the passenger he has been this season. If he starts pulling his weight, then they can get some offense going.

  89. god forbid we blow this lead this blog will be like trade everyone now. you guys crack me up.

one period relax if today didnt bring a spark what would

  90. Za'rat "The OTHER GUYS Greed" Jones on

Shut up Eric. At least wait till the 3rd before saying that

  91. Rangers West April 3rd, 2013 at 8:20 pm

Boyle and Clowe are now locked in a scoring race!

    lmaoroflol??!! comment of the day

  92. Jesse Spector ?@jessespector 11m

Brian Boyle says on radio he doesn’t think it’s his goal. So maybe a three-point period for Clowe when it’s all said and done.

  93. best case scenario we get in playoffs finish 7th play boston minus bergeron who suffered 4th concussion

    worst case lose out

  94. It’s only one period – but sometimes change ain’t such a bad thing. Funny how 20 minutes of shock just gave some fans a little hope. Things really may not be as dreadful as so many thought only a few hours ago. I’m not sure which is more surprising- the flow on and on the ledge recently, or how good that 1st period really was (and how shocked everyone here was by it).

  95. 3-0 up on the Penguins, Clowe and Boyle (maybe) scoring, Eric telling people to relax…

    Weird, weird game.

  96. Olga Folkyerself on

Looks like the party’s in here tonight, but the ledge is still out there.

Greg: Sather does fix a lot of his own mistakes, Trouble is, he makes a lot of mistakes to fix.

  97. am i witnessing this? is this real? is the end of the world coming? is this outburst due to orrs reappearance?

  98. what the hell is going on here? 2 PP goals…..non-first line scoring….playing with energy…I actually saw someone push a player who got close to Hank…..what happened to the 2013 Rangers we’ve all come to cringe at this year?

Oh…there they are….hahaha…..former Ranger lighting us up and now Pierre just babbling and babbling and babbling

  99. Fat Guy Still in Cali on

well, if you are gonna give up a goal, its better to do it after 4-0 than 3-0

  100. Richie is playing like he doesn’t want to go to Rangers West (East next year).

Cally must be thrilled to have more testicular fortitude on the squad starting today

  106. Does anyone get tired of Pierre’s stories? I sure don’t….I love NBC broadcast…I would never mute it because then Eddie and Pierre wouldn’t heard and that would just be a crime….sorry, still airing out my anger with the Gabby trade……despite what it says on the scoreboard in this game

  107. Richards the Friendly Ghost on

you guys are right fans are a little weak tonight, even more so than usual

  110. Was NBC in break when Glass and Asham dropped the gloves?

Linesmen got between them, but they made reservations for later.

  111. I swear the pengwhines are coached to flop on the ice and dive…and to WHINE about every single motherflipping call that doesn’t go their way !

  112. Rangers miss Gaborik’s speed, but back to their old lunch bucket style, and it works…way to go Rangers!

  113. i don’t believe it but i did believe clowe was a good pick up….but 2 goals…not even my die hard SJ fan out here thought he would do that….and 3 pp goals…has that happened since gretzky retired? cant wait to see asham pound on glass

  114. Yay!

the men in the red white and blue pajamas are winning the men in the white yellow and black pajamas!!!

  115. Ok – so when does the “Gooaaallll” Song become “Clllooowwweee” ??? LOL

  116. Brassard and Clowe are like instant chemistry. These guys are changing this team to a fun offensive zone threat.

  117. Clowe knows where to go to get the garbage. Old Rangers would have had everybody on one side. Brassard looks like hehas skills

  118. where did they get this crowd, from the library?? quietest, mildest fans I’ve ever heard when they have plenty to roar about

  119. this is why i love sports and hockey especially you make a trade and it just seems the first game it always pays off.

    can we sustain it

  120. They are cycling and moving the puck quickly. This team hasn’t looked like this all year.

  121. Don’t forget there are two big holes in the Penguins line-up.

But enough about Tyler Kennedy’s nostrils…

  122. is it too late to send whoever keeps playing maroon 5 at the Garden to Columbus too?

  123. And you may be right, Lev. Boyle’s looked like a lost puppy looking for Prust all season.

  124. Admiral Akbar on

Clowe’s face looks like a cross between Prust and Rupp. Or like an older, more beat up Prust.

  125. Im gonna need more than two periods against a Crosby-less Pitt squad to believe, but this is unreal so far.

  134. cccp- thats ok, i added vokoun last night just to beat the mighty sabres. yup. i feel ya pain bro

  135. I reserve final judgment till there is a four game win streak BUT could the Rangers be last year’s Kings!?

  136. today year anniversary the last time the rangers scored 5 goals through 2 per of play

  137. Hank striped himself out of a shutout.
    Still missing Prust?…
Our Clowe’s beak is bigger than Merchant’s!

  138. ThisYearsModel on

Think we will play more “safe is death” style, or will Torts reign this in and we be back to our dust choked scoring next game?

  139. well boneheads, it only goes to show you one thing, we know nothing about the new players. I know it’s only one game but these trades have made this team look really good. Only one game so I’m not starting a parade but looking good.

  140. Deranger it is funny because both Kings and Devils had big scoring droughts during the reg season, and they both made it to the finals with kings wining. Kings also didn’t have much of a PP at all.

  141. You got that right, eddie. Guy looks like he’s got some step left in those skates.

  142. Czechthemout!!! on

Boyle is awesome! The best player in Rangers history because he has played two good games this year.

That said, if he played like this most of the time, you would read nothing but praise from me towards him..

  143. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Czech, played like this, or played like this and scored goals?

  144. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

I am so happy we got clowe. This guy is a man beast. Finally someone that parks his assen in front of the opposing goalie..

  145. Wasn’t that one Penguins goal the result of Boyle missing a defensive assignment? We can get on him for that…

  146. I have to admit though, for me, it’s a little weird not really knowing a lot of these guys as Rangers and here they all are. I love my “team” but I also love my “boys.”….prust saying….

Scoring goals is what forwards playing third line, sometimes second line minutes do.

  149. LW – I don’t think people actually know what “Safe is Death” means. It’s like…..just *hyperbole* at this point.

  150. Wow. Just saw a replay of that goal Bryzgalov ducked under. Amazing. Does he know he is playing hockey?

  151. Admiral Akbar on

Did you guys see the play where Universe actually ducked under a floating puck that ended up in his net, in order so it didn’t hit his head?? Pansified!

  152. You all rock….I gotta roll for rest of game…..see you for my favorite part :)

  153. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

5 goals ties the season high, right? 3 PPG definitely is.

  154. Too bad three donkeys got themselves banned today. They might have enjoyed this. Then again, probably not.

Power Play 3 for 3? Poor Sam Rosen. Wonder if he yells “It’s a power play goal” at the TV at home.

  156. yea, 2 pts against pens in a home n home is what i hoped for before tonight. at least get 1 pt friday. yea i know, baby steps

  157. I think Torts was watching one of those cartoons, you know , where the Acme Safe falls on the cartoon character. Torts said “safe is death”

  158. we may have gotten the perfect players for this system. ill wait a few games, but it’s been beautiful to watch

  159. damnit, i meant to say, JR- “torts changed his style from safe is death to death is safe”

  160. Admiral Akbar on

Cooscoos: “coaches have done a wonderful job with these new guys.”

    >>because the coaches haven’t been able to “teach” the new players yet.

  161. Boy oh boy. 3 hours ago some of you were selling your season seats and hoping Pitts would murder them so the coach and GM got fired. They score 5 goals now everyone’s having a wonderful trade deadline eh?

  162. Don’t know, Gravy, but he’s obviously been a big reason for them sucking, and he will have to be a big reason for any success they have the rest of this season and until the buyout.

  163. Admiral Akbar on

Gotta Give Glass credit for showing something while his team is getting blown out. Something we haven’t seen from the Rangersnup until this point this season.

  164. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

I liked the Clowe deal, didn’t get the Gaborik deal. So far, so good.

“Hmmm, six years or seven? Six million or seven?”

  166. when you dont notice your 5th and 6th d man its a good thing. both played well because they can skate

  167. Hat Trick for Clowe would be sweet tonight. The Gordie Howe Hat Trick would be nicer though.

  168. look at hank playin the puck like a pimp out there. hes like, yea, thats right, this is farther than ive ever been from the net, what?? and then makes sprawling saves!!

  169. Admiral Akbar on

Stuart actually liked these trades – I think he will feel empowered or vindicated.

  170. regardless of what happened today or my feelings about things….no bad for a first impression…..two new guys….getting their first goals of the season and first as ranger….gotta love that…..keep that foot on the pedal boys

  171. This is crazy! Moore, Moore, Moore How do ya like it! How do ya like it!! Moore, Moore, Moore!

  172. Czechthemout!!! on

Not for nothing but Moore has been very impressive tonight even before the goal.

    Who are these guys?

  173. Olga Folkyerself on

Sather is a genius. He’s got you all salivating over leaping into 7th place.

  174. Admiral Akbar on

This may be Sather’s greatest trade since the Gomez/Higgins/mcDonagh deal.

    Holy smokes

  175. I have no words…

I can’t think of EVER seeing a trade pay off like this one has in one game.

    This is ridiculous.

Gaborik is gonna have to score 6 goals in his first game with Columbus to match this.

Is it possible the new players are exactly what we needed?

Only one game…but this is just amazing. Too ridiculous to believe.

  176. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Great trades!!!"...says Greg L. on

    yeaaaaahoooooooo Rangers RULE!!!!!!

  177. Who knows how the rest of this season will turn out, but at least they have given us one incredibly fun night in what has been a big disappointment

  178. One of Boyle’s best games as a Ranger. He’s all over the place tonight. Goal with 3 assists..I think he doubled his point total this season in just one game.

  179. like I said earlier, everyone on here was going nuts about the Gaborik trade but when I read what the bluejacket fans were saying they didn’t like the trade, thought the jackets gave up to much.

Three stars, Clowe, Brassard, and Moore!

  181. Haven’t posted in forever. Hello again everyone.

Can I vote Glen Sather for number one star? I don’t see that option.

  182. Ive read that Dorsette is a heart and soul guy. Might not be a bonified goalscorer but those guys are always welcome.

  183. Before the trade for Gaborik, JD must have got word he’d be replacing Slats next season

  184. 3 new guys with 8 POINTS so far in one game.
    This ain’t gonna work, Really???
If they produce 1/3 this much going forward, we are better then we were a few hours ago.

  185. Don’t those fools at the Mets and Yankees games know that it is still hockey season and too damn cold to be sitting in an outdoor stadium? :)

  186. A F L Y!!!!!!!!!

Ok, it’s just one game, but I’ll so take it, and the points….more goals in one game than in what? the past 6???

  187. Hmmm. Just not practicing together seems to have worked wonders. Arrival time for Friday’s game: 645 P.M.

  188. So far, this has been a complete and thorough ass kicking. It’s amazing what a little grit and a couple of tablespoons of jam can do for you.

  189. Tiki April 3rd, 2013 at 4:26 pm
i dont think we’ll score more than 3 in a game the rest of this season.

  190. Hey Carp – I’m in my last year of law school now and started part time at the firm I’ll be working at after graduation, so, long story short, I’ve had to take part in the hi jinx from afar.

Hope you’re doing well Carp. As always, thanks for all your hard work and putting up with us schmucks!

  191. You know if fleury didn’t play as well as he did this could be 15-1. Of course if iginla scored instead of hitting the post, it would be 15-2

  192. And hello to you too Blogmama!

Made sure to get out of work early for this game after the day’s events. Come playoffs (lets be ridiculously presumptuous after one game), I’ll do my best to be here and enjoy the fun with the rest of the Boneheads. Until then, Lets go Rangers!

  193. Carp nice meeting u got some good stories soon about dinner with Slats tonite. On the train early . My 3 were Clowe Boyle Brassard and a whole host of HM not the crowd though ugh

  194. Clowe better take the Red Eye to Pittsburgh on Friday. Moore and Brassard better show up 10 minutes before game time. Keep the streak alive.

  195. ThisYearsModel on

Well, sme guys were awakened, and new guys contributed. A couple more games like this and Richards is going to be the 3rd ine center.

  196. @Herman_NYRBlog@ John Moore: 14:09 TOI, 1 goal, 2 shots, 1 hit

I will keep supporting the guy until he gets sent down or becomes a superstar.

  197. 3 stars go to Clowe, Brassard and Richards. Richards is a bit surprising given the fire power tonight.

  198. Trying to find a negative in this one….Callahan, what a bum, no points tonight. Same goes for Nash. Is too late to trade ’em both?

  199. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

    WBM (c)

    0) Boyle
    1) Girardi
    2) Richards
    3) Pyatt
    4) Eminger
    5) Lundqvist

  200. when the knicks play the heat on tnt they have knicks extra why not rangers extra for tv games

  201. omg best trade ever

not for anything but whoever picks the stars of the game is an effing moron

Boyle had the game of his life and loses out to Richards who played pretty well but is making a trillion dollars

  202. jpg’s sister….awwww….it was safe enough for him to come out for third….did you get let out of the room tonight? :)

  203. Slatsko Folkyerself on

“Sather fleeced some more sheepish GMs.”

Where were you this afternoon when Sather’s noose was being tied?

  204. and, before I say niters, for I must, can I just belatedly say……BB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great night tonight….til tomorrow all. TA!

  205. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Sather has had a history of being on the winning side of trades since he’s been the Rangers’ GM. Time will tell on these two.

  206. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Great trades!!!"...says Greg L. on

    Next game Penguins .

Our boys are rested , 4th line played the whole 3rd period!!!

  207. Retire Brad Park's #2 on

    God that was fun.

Nice interview with Brassard on NBC. While he was talking about arriving at MSG at 6:30, I was wondering where he was going to sleep tonight.

Godspeed, Marian Gaborik. You were a good Ranger, and I wish you well.

  208. look this was a really beleaguered Penguins team missing its best player and they were atrociously defensively from the word go

but when you come out and hang up 6 (something that hasn’t happened in at least a year) against Pittsburgh and get 2 goals from Ryan Clowe, 4 points from Derick Brassard and good god almighty, Brian Boyle, it’s a good win.

  209. atrocious defensively…

want to see them come out strong on Friday before buying into any of this but Clowe is such an upgrade

  210. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Lloyd, agree, but the Pens were without Crosby for 60 games and Letang for 31 last year, and they still had 108 points.

  211. Definitely not ready to proclaim the trade a good one, but while Brassard and Dorsett probably are what they are by now, it’ll be interesting to see if/how Moore develops.

Don’t get the impression he’d been written off in Columbus at all and improvement of young D-men is one thing it’s hard to criticise the Rangers’ coaching staff for in recent years.

  212. Only 2 games this yr tonite n 4-1 win in DC I might be the answer to the scoring. No? No!

  213. This is the time of year when Richards came alive last year. Good game for Horse Teeth…we can only pray he keeps it up

LOVE what Clowe brings, he is going to score a lot of goals in this system…Total package…size, grit, skill, strength, leader, beast, man, etc…

Still like what I see from Zucc

    Can’t wait for Friday!

  214. that Moore goal was deflected by a Penguin, right? certainly looked like it changed direction from where I was

  215. And based on that game, I’m glad the Rangers didn’t end up with Douglas Murray. They can play Bickel if they really need a startled pylon.

  216. N.Country_NYRfan on

Great win tonight…But I have to wonder if tonight’s offensive explosion by or new players was because they haven’t had time to buy into Torts “System’ yet and have their creativity suppressed. What do you all think?

  217. ThisYearsModel on

Have to agree, Douglas Murray looked like a traffic cone. Sure is nice to come up with a big win like that tonight.

  218. Is it one time miracle or Penguins save energy for play-off? Next game will shows who is who.

  219. new players = adrenaline burst, and the timing was perfect. but i don’t think torts system suppresses creativity. learn the basics so they become second nature, then go create all you want. that’s what torts wants, same as just about every coach in the league. don’t blame gabby’s stage fright on torts.

  220. I have been wondering why the Pens felt they needed to change 20% of their lineup when they were in cruise control. They made all of these moves before Sid got hit in the face.

  221. So if Brassard passes like that every game and allows us to amnesty Richards with less fear, I’ll drift much closer to the Manny side of this deal.

  222. Still amateur-hour effort if you ask me … any other team would have put up a 9-spot.

  223. Just finished watching. Wow! Speechless! I knew Clow would be an upgrade, but was upset with Gaborik trade, didn’t think they got enough. I know it’s just one game, but you have to wonder if Brassard, who always had good skills, may be just one of those rare cases when the change of scenery may work. May not miss Gaborik, especily if Dorsette is what they advertise. Can’t write a better scenario- all new guys scored. Gotta sleep on this one.

  224. The new kid can skate. Something Hamrlik last did in 1997. And he hit Cooke a few times too.

  225. can’t say I saw much of anything from Moore tonight but if he had one broken leg I’m sure he’d still be quicker than Hamrlik

  226. jpg's sister on

new guys get goals, but BB had a good game ans did BR and assists from guys been here some time

  227. Ilb unbelievable turn of events today …followed by a truly astonishing win!!! Even the haters were smiling!

  228. I’m going to take a guess and say Torts will use the word “jam” in the post game tonight. The Rangers were finally, FINALLY, that hard team to play aGAINst.

If they bring this level of energy every night, look out.

  229. I can’t remember the last time the Rangers brought two new guys into a lineup who combined for 7 points in their first game

  230. Clow(e)n was goooood …. but he didn’t score a hat-trick, so that makes him a dog in my book.

  231. Moore now 51 – 5 over McD. At least the boneheads recognized Boyle’s contribution.

  232. Romeo- because they felt adding stabilizing veteran presences would help avert a meltdown like last year.

  233. Pat Leonard @NYDNRangers

Brassard, Moore, Dorsett & Steve Mason all were sitting in same Columbus apartment when they were informed via phone call they were traded

  234. Maybe moving Boyle to the wing does the trick?

Eduardo- you must’ve seen Clowe play a lot. What was missing from his game all year until tonight?

  235. Tonight the Pens looked like they got older and slower. Chemistry can’t be forced, it just happens.

Trade deadline deals can backfire sometimes.

  236. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

We’ve seen very good games earlier this season, but not multiple. Even their little streak last month wasn’t dominant play. They played 2 in a row, though with a different cast of characters. Need to see a little stretch of consistently good play.

  237. Can’t believe he wasn’t at least asked about his relationship with Tortorella in his exit interview. Not that he necessarily would have offered an honest answer anyway, but does the Garden brass have a tacit stranglehold on team reporters?

  238. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

The personality change of the team was evident on the first shift. A great check thrown by clowe – then he drove hard to the net.

  239. Goals aside, I thought Moore moved the puck up very well. Protected it well. Hit people and absorbed hits. And skated well. Also his positioning was solid. Not much to not like.

  240. Wonder if Gabby took his float with him on the plane, or if he’ll just buy a new one in Ohio.

  241. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Ilb – he was very unlucky so far this season. Plus he was banged up a bit. But throughout his career he is as close to a Lucic player as there is…. I have always liked him and so happy he is with us..I have been calling for this trade for quite some tome, yes?

  242. Gaborik is a pro and well respected by the writers. Personally, I wouldn’t want to be the one that put Gabby on the spot like that.

  243. Czechthemout!!! on

I agree with the sentiment that Boyle should have been one of the three stars!

I bet many of yoos never thought I would type those words huh?

  244. Moore can skate. Not McD like, but better than MDZ. He’s got size, and he is young. Was tough to judge his positioning just by watching one game, but I’ll give our staff some time and he can be developed into solid D-man, I believe.

  245. Moore was fine. 22 years old. Hope he stays long like McDonaugh. But 57 star votes to a TOTAL of 9 for McD, Girardi, DelZ? Little bit of over exuberance here.

  246. Sioux-per-man on

Coos Manny ILB Check Eddie 3c

    Come back

    Shane come back . . . . Shane come back…..

  247. That game made me so happy. I’m not gonna plan a parade, but it was nice to see the potential that came in with the trade. I’ll miss Gaborik, but we had to send some money out the door. I wish we could’ve gotten a higher pick in the deal, but overall, I’m ok with it. I’ll be interested to see Dorsett when he gets in the lineup. I’ve seen him play a number of times in Columbus, and I think he’ll be a solid addition.
