It’s Go Time! … NHL trade deadline edition

501

Figured we need a new thread here for the trade deadline chatter.

I will attempt to track trades and update throughout, though I will be traveling to NYC before the deadline, so also keep an eye on the twitter widgets ——–> over there on the right. And I know you guys do your own updating in the comments section.

Since I have zero idea as to what the Rangers might be doing today, if anything, I know you guys have your own opinions and wants. So, until stuff starts to happen, I’d like to know which direction you think the Rangers should go.

Sell off a Marian Gaborik (I think that’s lunacy unless he brings in a haul)? Add another defenseman (going to be expensive to get anybody other than another Roman Hamrlik/Bryan McCabe/Derek Morris)? More help up front (there won’t be a legit scorer available, but maybe they could get another third-line type)? Continue the Ryane Clowe theme and add more sandpaper? Stand pat?

What do you think?

See you in a bit.

  1. YES WICKY. Steve OTT! Now there is a guy that can replace Boyle’s face offs and PK abilities.

  2. One step ahead of you, Wickster. One step.

    Good morning, Sally!

I think NHL Network carries TSN’s trade show, Mister.

  3. _Continue the Ryane Clowe theme and add more sandpaper? Stand pat?_

Reading between the lines … “stand pat”, “pat”, “patrick”, “st patrick”, “irish, OH MY GOD O’BYRNE IS A DONE DEAL!!!

  4. Manny

I think Miller should have been sent down about 10 games ago, but that’s just me. He’s not producing offensively and he’s clearly having issues defensively so why is he still here?

Send him down to HFD where he can try and regain his offense and play in some playoff games there

  5. I see Sather trying to land Yandle, this is two years in a row they’ve looked at him. Also wouldn’t be surprised to see Raffi Torres show up in blue, because he definitely adds the “sandpaper” element. Unfortunately he also adds the 20 game suspension for boarding + prior disciplinary history element as well.

  6. More sandpaper. Been missing grit all year and it could be the best thing to spark the team that has more than enough slumping offensive talent on the roster.

  7. according to Kypreos, and not surprising at all, Phoenix said it wants significant pieces back for Yandle. Not getting him for Pyatt, Boyle and Hamrlik.

  8. I doubt we have what it takes to get Yandle. Unless that whole “Hagelin isn’t at practice” thing is involved.

  9. Carp – realistically they got what they paid for in Clowe – I certainly expect more grit – but not more points! That said – IF they could work some magic on a top 6 and a top 4 rt handed D with some considerations for Gabby, that may be something they should mull over. I often wonder how someone with his speed (when he uses it) would be under a Coach B and the ducks or in Chicago with the hawks under Quennville. Either way, this is a crazy season so nothing is out of the question at this point

  10. maybe yandle goes to phoenix with couterier headed back to phoenix. the rangers dont have the pieces for yandle

WHAT I DO KNOW IS THAT THE RANGERS WILL DO EVERYTHING IN THERE POWER TO MAKE PLAYOFFS BECAUSE MSG WANTS TWO HOME GAMES MINIMUM AND EVERYONE MONEY

  11. But overall, what’s not to like about Yandle? He’s 26, plays big minutes, plays PP and is a solid, solid defender.

@NYDNRangers@ New Ranger Ryan Clowe on ice for #NYR optional AM skate in Greenburgh. So is Carl Hagelin, who missed due to maintenance yesterday

  12. I wonder when Asham is back on the ice. Really don’t get him being scratched if he’s not hurt.

  13. Tom Connoly is a healthy scratch for the Toronto Marlies. I guess they promised to move him (as a favor).

  14. What if we move Boyle/Pyatt for Mason Raymond? The Canucks want to move Raymond and want to add some grit, especially since they missed out on Clowe.

  15. Why would Vancouver prefer Boyle/Pyatt over Raymond?

The Rangers are “set” for goal scoring. If Richards and Gabby cant produce, then no additional offense is going to do any good…

  16. I don’t know why I like Mason Raymond. Sorry. It just seems like he might be a big lift in goal scoring to our bottom 6. But again, different systems, so who knows.

  17. Any chance the Devs move Clarkson to NYR for picks/prospects?? …. UFA at end of year.

  18. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

I think at this point, they can only acquire a 5th/6th defenseman unless they unload some salary. So, while Yandle and Torres are nice thoughts, I don’t see how it could legitimately happen.

I do think they Rangers make at least two more moves.

  19. Artie from No Cal on

I live in Sharks country, while remaining a loyal Rangers fan. I think NY fans are going to take to Ryane Clowe. Besides being a gritty player with size he has great off ice presence and relates to the fans well. He brings his game every night BUT he has been hurt often recently. If he can stay healthy and even score some goals he will make Rangers fans forget their Avery obsession with a real hockey player.

  20. If the Rangers are going to make another move it has to be for 2nd/3rd pair d-man who can round out the 6 when Staal comes back.

  21. @HeleneStJames@ Quiet so far on #RedWings front, but am told by GM Ken Holland team is “trying to” do something before trade deadline.

  22. @FriedgeHNIC@ Yandle price is steep. Two impact forwards, including someone who can be No.1 centre. Not getting traded unless offer PHO can’t refuse.

  23. Wicky©This team is too soft...bring back the Rupp! on

I would love to add obyrne (or obrien who played for torts, [;ays with an edge, but has been in and out of the lineup this season…should come cheap but that D up grade).

    Ott, Glencross…

  24. Wicky©This team is too soft...bring back the Rupp! on

    Carp
You are always a step ahead of me sir!!!

  25. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

Miller, Kreider, and 1st rounders in the next 3 years for Yandle….git ‘er done.

  26. Wicky©This team is too soft...bring back the Rupp! on

If staal was healthy i would trade him to carolina for gleason and ruutu (if he were healthy)

  27. Rob in Beantown on

Carp, any idea what’s up with Staal? Is it a concussion, his eye, or something else?

  28. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

I think Clowe is already moving down the WBM (c). May be below Richards and Gaborik by go time.

  29. Wicky©This team is too soft...bring back the Rupp! on

gabby boyle and mdz to the yotes for yandle and handzal

Potential of Clowe starting w Richards and Gaborik tonight

    AKA the WBM line.

  31. Sioux-per-man on

Morning Carp!!! – Check out the pic I emailed you.

How are all the Boneheads today?

  32. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

Gabby should give Richards and Clowe a 20 ft head start.

  33. I hope the Phlyers don’t get Ben Bishop. He’s pretty good against us. I don’t want our domination of the Phlyers to end. Ever.

  34. bergeron in boston could be out awhile. took hit to head last night. would be huge blow for bruins

  35. Bergeron also has previous history of concussion, no? One of the better two-way centers

  36. Wicky©This team is too soft...bring back the Rupp! on

It is pretty crazy, sid out in pitt for a while, and now bergeron in Bos. If you make it into the playoffs who knows

    Just Saying

  37. Well don’t make any trades then. Pittsburgh gets Iginla and Crosby goes down. Boston gets Jagr and Bergeron goes down. Rangers get Clowe and ________ goes down.

  38. Wicky©This team is too soft...bring back the Rupp! on

wow, crazy stat 82% of second round picks do not make it to NHL…WOW

  39. Is this blog supposed to auto-refresh? Can’t see the new posts unless I manually refresh it.

  40. Sioux-per-man on

Yandle – would be perfect for our blueline if that’s a possiblity.

What would you give up in return to get it done? 1st round DMen picks from McIlrath or Skjei, Boyle or Pyatt, maybe even a Thomas and or a draft pick. Is he 1’st round draft material?

  41. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

    *Steve Zipay ?@stevezipay*
Marc Staal working out at training center. Not on ice. Visored helmet in stall

I’m thinking if he is just working out, there is a good chance there was a concussion. Wouldn’t he at least be able to ride a bike if it was just blurry vision? Am I underestimating the impact of an eye injury?

  42. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

SPM, read above…Phoenix wants two forwards, one with #1 C potential.

  43. If Stalzie not coming back, we have to upgrade a bit of D, no? Emzie and Hamzie not goodzie.

  44. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

    Pat Leonard ?@NYDNRangers
Scratches tonight for #NYR are Kreider and Gilroy

Let the Tort hate Kreider posts begin.

  45. That is a really, really bad sign for Kreider. Guess he will be sent down shortly (or traded).

  46. Sioux-per-man on

Carp – looks like Stall could be back. Now that picture is worth a thousand words, nice to see the visor!!!

  47. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

    Tort WBM (c)

    1) Kreider
    2) Gaborik
    3) Gilroy
    4) Stralman
    5) Hagelin

  48. I think the fact that Staal has a visored helmet in his locker is probably a better sign than him working out … tells me his intent is to play at some point this season.

  49. Wicky, the stat was actually that 82% of 2nd rd picks do not become top six players. It was something like 60% that never make it to the NHL.

  50. Wicky©This team is too soft...bring back the Rupp! on

I just think kreider provides less than miller does at the NHL level. I thought he was better when he came back from CT this time, he is like a bigger version of gabby..if he isn’t scoring you don’t really notice him

  51. Marian the Friendly Ghost on

Who is out there to be had? I feel like most moves have already happened? Painful as it is, NYR needs to hang on to Gaborik and hope he gets it going

  52. Wicky©This team is too soft...bring back the Rupp! on

    latona
my bad, I must have heard it wrong..thanks for the correction

  53. I am admittedly one of the guys that thought Kreider was going to spend the whole season in the AHL. He was really bad at the beginning of this season. But when he came back up I thought he was much better. At least using his speed to recover from poor positioning. Guess I was wrong to be happily surprised.

  54. SportsNet says: Oy-lers Ales Hemsky is available, for D-Men. Will Gilroy, Bickel and Hamerlik do it? ;)

  55. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

There’s still a chance Kreider gets in the lineup up if/when someone is traded.

  56. One thing I noticed is that Kreider started a little bit to throw his weight around and get a little meaner in the corners and in front of the crease. Step in the confidence direction.

  57. dreger reporting on tsn kiprusoff likely to stay in calgary ad retire instead of going to toronto

  58. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

Imagine having to decide between retiring in Calgary or playing in Toronto?

  59. Wicky©This team is too soft...bring back the Rupp! on

I still think calgary is ripe for the picking

  60. Why wouldn’t the organization trade Kreider? They have given him plenty of opportunities and are obviously really unhappy with him…

  61. All sports are replete with talented kids who struggled early coming up to the bigs and who became elite. Here’s hoping.

  62. Holy Cow, Clowe is Kramer w/ Hank hair…

Think he busts into the locker room like Kramer? Always asking to borrow tape / sticks etc.?

  63. Rob in Beantown on

    Pat Leonard @NYDNRangers@
So total scratches are Asham, Kreider, Gilroy as I understand from A.M. #NYR

  64. Don’t think we’ll hear about any Sather trade until close to 3 PM…he’s usually holding out until he gets what he wants, even if it isn’t exactly what we have in mind. Not too bad playing his hand…I just hope it’s not for some more underperforming veterans at the expense of youth. Will tune in again later this afternoon.

  65. I remember when youz guyz were complaining about the lack of youth on this team, and now you want to trade Kreider and Miller and Thomas? No way will they do this, unless the return is an equivalent replacement part they need, like 3rd pair D with grit, but doubt even that would be considered. See you at 3 PM…

  66. Shawn Mitchell ?(The Columbus Dispatch):
Appears CBJ D Jack Johnson has left practice. Not sure why.

    Maybe to pack his bags?

  67. Wicky©Love the Clowe!! on

even if you trade those three, still one of the youngest rosters in the league I think. Not saying trade them all, just making a point

  68. Rob in Beantown on

I heard Fast got sent down and Kreider was scratched for tonight. If he really got sent down that’s a new development

  69. Unless he is hurt, no idea why Asham would be a scratch over Pyatt. And I don’t think the organIzation would part with Kreider even if Torts did hate him (don’t think he does). Can’t object to sending him down if he is going to play zero minutes. That said, I’d like to see him on the 4th line with Boyle and Asham (sorry Powe and not so much Pyatt) and give them a semi-regular shift. Of course that is not Torts’ style, as he prefers to run our other guys into the ground. Last, I’d see what O’Byrne would cost…..need a big guy to clear the crease more than a PP QB if you ask me.

  70. Halpern&Powe stink on

More sandpaper, a defensement and a depth guy. The team needs to get rid of Pyatt, denote Boyle to a 4th line role and decide what to do with miller and Kreider. Asham has been hurt all year, 50/50 on him

  71. Erixson20 … need a big guy to clear the crease more than a PP QB if you ask me.

    Couldn’t agree more!

  72. Wicky©Love the Clowe!! on

Unless there is a blockbuster out there for us that includes gabby (like Carp said, have to get a haul back), I try to add one of the O’s and glencross or ott

  73. Coos,. 11:25 agree. kreider probably thinking, you wanted me to play physical, I start playing physical, I’m back on the bench. What gives????

  74. Wicky©Love the Clowe!! on

    kreider and gabby take note…

Ryane Clowe on no goals in 28 games: “I know the goals will come. I feel like I can make an impact on the game even when I am not scoring”

  75. Any info on Blackhawks LW Brandon Saad (who has 17 points in his last 16 games).
Supposedly Isles inquiring about him, so he must be available.

  76. Marian the Friendly Ghost on

I think Clowe will quickly become a favorite on the blog..The NYR is plenty young, a couple draft picks for a guy who gives us a pair of balls i’ll take it

  77. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

    Halpern&Powe stink April 3rd, 2013 at 11:58 am

    Halpern 1 goal, Clowe 0

  78. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

Adam Hall waived by TB, claimed by Carolina, traded back to TB where he is instantly waived again, then picked up by Philly.

  79. Sioux-per-man on

Clowe reminds me of Lucic type player, big guy that CAN score, but also hit you in the mouth and be tough to play against.

This is JUST what the Rangers needed!!!

And we didn’t have to give up a top prospect like Kreider, Miller, Hags, or even Fast. This is a good deal boys!!!

Besides we need a new “club” to beat the penguins down. Time to put some hurt on the ugly birds of the east.

  80. Said Hall; “I’m really happy to end up in _____, I really think it’ll be a good fit because ____”

  81. Sioux-per-man … agreed. That’s why I would’ve preferred Asham tonight (to Pyatt maybe?).

  82. I for one trust Sappy’s past history and dysfunctional hockey brain activity to keep the organization in “average” mode as Junior counts his dough.

The biggest chuckle of the day is reading some lunatic’s version of the best ten GM’s in the NHL with sappy at #10.

Apparently 25 years of draft futility, overpaying FA’s , creating unbalanced rosters and throwing numerous coaches under the bus are no longer factors in judging performance.

I think Junior was on the selection committee!

  83. According to The AHL Transaction Wire, JT Miller and Chris Kreider have been sent to Hartford.

  84. Wild Places @11:45, Sappy usually gets what he wants by holding out until the deadline?

    Really, some examples please?

On the other hand or foot ,were he to get what he deserves it would be an escort to JFK with a one way ticket to Banff!

  85. That’s fine. Much rather the kids in the AHL than the press box or the bench for 55:00 per game.

  86. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

    Steve Zipay ?@stevezipay
NYR rookies Chris Kreider and J.T. Miller assigned to CT Whale, AHL says

  87. Prelude to a trade> Bye, bye, Chris and J.T. we hardly knew ye!

Sappy quote ” we intend to go with youth”!

You want to know why Torts is losing more hair as we post?

  88. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

If there is one area that Sather has generally been on the right side of, it’s trades.

  89. sharks close to acquiring scott haanan

bruins and hawks complete first trade of day two minor leaguers

  90. Manny, “eligible for the Whale”?

Is this on the list of vital necessities while the big club is trying to make the playoffs?

The Whale are “providers” unless you feel their making a playoff run will help distract Ranger fans if we don’t!

Anyone, why do we still need Asham if we have obtained toughness with Clowe?

  91. Analysts kept making the point that SJS removed three slow players from their line-up with these recent trades. Doesn’t Scott Hannan kind of negate that perceived advantage if they acquire him?

  92. According to The AHL Transaction Wire, JT Miller and Chris Kreider have been sent to Hartford.

This could only be a paper transaction so that they stay available to the Whale in the playoffs.

Allan Muir writes at SI.com that the rules have changed and teams do not need to make paper transactions anymore, “NHL clubs still have to decide which eligible players they want to participate in the chase for the Calder Cup, but they won’t have to worry about the paper transactions — sending players down to the A and then recalling them in time to play that night — that used to take up valuable time on the busiest day of the year.”

  93. Gravy, the only thing Sappy has been “on the right side of” is the express line at his bank to deposit those 5mm. annual payments for gifting Meesier and Beuk to the 94 squad!

  94. Singing heard from Torts’ office: “IIIIII’VE GOT POWE-CLOWE! I’VE GOT BOYYYYYYYYLE!
SENT DOWN KREEEEEEEEEEEEEIDER! WHO CAN ASK FOR ANY-THING MORE?!” WHO CAN ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE! WHO CAN ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE!?”

  95. Wicky©Love the Clowe!! on

    latona
I think the point they are trying to make is the majority of the sharks are slow…you can have a few slow players to go with fast players just like you need big tough guys to go with small skill guys…

    but yes,
hannan is slow and it does seem to go against the getting faster theme

  96. I don’t have Center Ice this year, wicky, so I haven’t seen much of the Sharks. Thanks for the insight.

  97. 1. Richie Rich has been the king of passes to nowhere and Miller has inexplicably picked up on it.
    2. Gabby dislikes any kind of traffic whatsoever. We can live with it IF he gives us 35-40.
    3. If Staal doesn’t come back, we need some D help for sure. How many minutes can our young horses give us without eventually breaking down?
    4. Understand fully the Clowe trade, but what has been up with Ash (back?) and Haley if Torts is so worried about grit?

  98. Wicky©Love the Clowe!! on

    latona
sure, no problem. Eddie x3 is the real west coast scout here.

  99. Wicky©Love the Clowe!! on

I don’t trade asham unless glencross, boll, or ott comes here…

    or john scott

  100. Sioux-per-man on

I’m excited if he plays with Richards & Gaborik!

They need someone on their line to create HAVOC, bang on the boards, stand in front of the net, bang in pucks.

I’m excited for this to happen. This is a GREAT TRADE!

AND he wants to stay here, he has a chip on his shoulder with something to prove.

I haven’t been this excited on a trade “deadline deal” in a long time for the Rangers.

  101. _All you are doing is looking at stats. Go on hockeyfights.com, look on the Sharks fan sites – this guy can play, score, fight and fills a need on this team._

How do you evaluate a player’s performance, if not with statistics?

Fights and Toughness do not win hockey matches.

Goal-scoring and Goal-prevention wins hockey matches.

  102. Marian the Friendly Ghost on

I think Clowe’s been snakebitten this year. Change of scenery will help. He can have a renaissance in NY, Sharks fans loved this guy

  103. Carp and posters, could the Rangers have obtained Bouwmeester for essentially the same package as Clowe even without the #1 and would a two way D have been a better deal?

They would have had to be creative under the cap but he is signed for 2014 only.

  104. Does anyone know what the whole sending kids down for eligbillity thing actually means?

  105. @StanFischler@ Prediction: #RyaneClowe will be the 2013 #Rangers version of #BrandonPrust — bigger. He’ll be a strong Torts-man. Good Blueshirts move.

    Stan loves the move.

  106. @DarrenDreger@ Nashville sends Hannan to San Jose for a conditional 6\7th round

    BREAKING NEWS!

    (S)

  107. Clowe excited to play in MSG. Wonder what he’ll think when he hears that this year, it’s quieter than the HP Pavilion. Let’s make some NOISE!

  108. Sioux-per-man on

I wish I lived in Hartford.

I would be excited to watch a line of Kreider – Miller – Fast take the ice.

Boys need to start to make a difference for the Whale, and win some games. Before they are ready to play playoff hockey for the Varsity!!!

I know I’ve said this before, but the Rangers would have done themselves a better service to have Miller go throught 2 years of the Fighting Sioux Hockey Factory. He would be at the same spot today, had they done this.

  109. ThisYearsModel on

Meeting over. Now comes the least productive 2 hours of the yearas I hang with Boneheads. Glad Miller and Kreider went down.Torts would rather play vets who can’t skate just because they are vets. Keep the kids away from him for now. Let them finish the year in CT.

  110. Oh Manny, Stan Fischler was at one time possessed of some candor.

He sold out to shill for MSG, what do you expect him to say as the MSG pr machine justifies and dictates?

Good post Thom, didn’t we already try that approach with Brashear, Shelley, Boogaard and Scott………….after losing Orr?

  111. I thought the same thing about Jones, wicky.

If Stan likes the move, though, it’s destined to fail.

  112. Sioux-per-man on

Personally I think the Rangers would have had to wait 5 more days….. to assign Miller to the Whale.

Miller would have been at the Frozen Four this weekend winning Championships, had he been on the line with Grimaldi.

  113. Yea, Sioux, but then he would have had to live through that heartbreaking loss to Yale.

  114. Coos, why wouldn’t Clowe be exicited to play in NY as a FA with a big payday coming from the office of fiscal mismanagement known league wide as Sappy’s defined benefit plan?

  115. Nice to see the Rangers make the right decision and send Miller and Kreider down (although Kreider looked good on his last recall).

With the addition of Zuccarello and Clowe, they simply have no place to play. Having Miller, Kreider and Fast on the same team now should make the Whale pretty exciting to watch now!

  116. florida sends Jared Smithson to edmonton for 4th round pick.

the catch according to mckenzie is smithson wife is in labor in florida right now lol

  117. And I really hope Tortorella has the patience to stay with Zuccarello-Richards-Gaborik. They looked very good against Winnipeg and would like to see them stick.

    Hagelin-Boyle-Clowe could be a productive 3rd line.

  118. Keep an eye on #Devils Uncle Lou. Apparently he got his 1st round pick to dangle and he wants a scoring winger. #TradeTracke

u know for sure the devild dont want rangers and isles getting last two spots.

  119. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

    Nash – Stepan – Callahan
    Clowe – Richards – Gaborik
    Hagelin – Boyle – Zuccarello
    Pyatt – Powe – Asham

  120. Wicky©Love the Clowe!! on

Love how some people knock clowe (and nash) players with NTCs who want to come to NY. I mean heaven forbid they think this is a good place to play, might like the coach, and think they can help the team win.

Everyone isn’t jagr, not all about the $$$$ all the time. And if we pay 3.8 on a contract vs 3.5 or 4.1 is it really that important?

  121. Gravy

The Rangers should switch Clowe and Zuccarello there. Zuccarello worked well with Gabby and Richards and Clowe is more of a 3rd liner that will check, cycle and forecheck.

  122. Yea like Washington is trading Chimera when they are going to win their division…

  123. If we got Chimera and that stupid red goatee I would puke all over someone. Probably @CCCP@

  124. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

Those aren’t my lines per se. Clowe said he would likely play with Richards and Gaborik to start. The first line is the first line. All other placed by default.

  125. Wicky©Love the Clowe!! on

    eric
    I agree about d man

I leave clowe with gabby and brich for now

  126. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

_I leave clowe with gabby and brich for now_

Wouldn’t want to put too many players who can score together ;)

  127. Clowe hasn’t scored a goal this season and has never played in this system before. The most important thing is getting Gabby and Richards playing well and Zuccarello on their wing was looking really good.

  128. Clowe here, and we still have to watch Boyle and Pyatt struggle to be effective? Maybe he’s pixie dust or something, we’ll see. Miller is so much better than either of those guys, though!

  129. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

oleo, agree that MZA looked pretty good when he wasn’t in the box, and Gabchards had a decent game with him. But, it looks like Clowe is getting his first look there…at least to start.

  130. Didn’t we send someone to AHL for the deadline last season too? just so that there was room in case a trade was made? something to that effect..

  131. @Eklund@ Pens, Isles Also in on Yandle (with Flyers and two other teams)

    Of course they are….

  132. Gravy, You Know You Want Some Marty on

Here are some other things Chimera can be:

    1) a monstrous fire-breathing female creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of three animals — a lion, a serpent and a goat.

    2) a single animal organism with genetically distinct cells from two different zygotes

    3) a single plant organism with genetically distinct cells from two different zygotes or from a mixed-species callus

    4) a virus containing genetic material from other organisms

    5) a hybrid protein made by the splicing of two genes

    6) a 1999 episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

    Easy Manny :)

Miller would have provided the “Tort’s Jam” and ignited the Sioux to a new level.

We had bad Puck luck in that game, 3 post could have gone the other way. Refs calling a shoulder to shoulder hit a penalty. Crazy game. The Sioux should have put them away early, but they didn’t. That’s what happens when a team doesn’t play a FULL 60 minutes.

That said, Miller could have followed a Parise/Toews typs of developement. Work on getting stronger, faster, time to developed & practice to play in all types of game situations. Develope chemistry with a player you’ve won Gold medals with, win a Championship. Confidence playing at the top of your game. While playing against other top tier team. It’s not like we couldn’t throw him into the fire like we did with Kreider last year – IF we needed a center that bad.

Looking back the Sioux lost MILLER – Matteau – Nelson. Just imagine if they all played with Kristo, Knight, & Grimaldi. That could have been one of the all time best teams that have EVER suited up for the Sioux.

Miller got some games with the Rangers, Matteau played a few with the Devils, Nelson is an Islander prospect in the AHL – 2nd in points.

The Sioux just can’t replace 3 – 1’st round draft picks when they change their mind at the end of July.

  134. czechthemout!!! on

So we make a nice deal for a player who can really help with grit and score some goals. Good move.

So than we go ahead and create a slower team because Tirts insists on playing his son on the third line, no matter what. This stubborn mule refuses to adjust to the players he has that have speed and talent. So he sends down two forwards who provide that. A line of Clowe Miller Kreider could have beeb a fantastic line. But once again, there is his son again. Has to play him on the third line. I love how Torts notices any mistake Miller or Kreider may make but is totally oblivious to the plethora of mistakes bumbling Boyle makes on a nightly basis.

Kreider will never be anythibg if Torts is his coach. If I were his agent, I would ask for a trade in the off season. Or maybe Sather should just trade him for a #1 pick or a Yandle before it is too late.

  135. I got a good deal on those boys. The scouts said they showed a lot of promise.

This deadline is making me thirsty. No tweets in the last 15 minutes.

  138. Gaborik/Richards/Zuccarello is nice in theory, but that line is way too soft for this stretch run of the season when points are at a premium. You need a player like Callahan or Clowe in there to create some space on the forecheck.

While I hate to see the kids get sent back down, at least this gives Torts 4 lines he can roll with until crunch time.

It makes sense with teams being able to take on some salary of players they are dealing. Teams don’t have to wait to the last second to best utilize cap space. I would expect this to happen more starting next year with the salary cap dropping $6 million.

What a poor trade. Did not get a first round pick back. Wow!

Dumb trade. So now Torts has low talent grinders back. Wohoo!

So when I posted that Gabby was being shopped a month ago, I was right huh?

So does that mean they will open up room for Kreider?

  224. Richards the Friendly Ghost on

don’t worry guys, Rangers picked up a 6th round pick as part of the deal

  225. As usual lots of short-sighted only look at goal totals reactions on here. This is a terrific trade considering what has gone on the past week. They were never re-signing Gabby especially when they have raises to give out to a majority of their young guys. As seen, rentals bring back meaningless draft picks. While Iginla, Morrow, Jagr went for nothing, they actually got 3 NHL assets for Gabby. That’s a good trade any day of the week.

  226. Not happy – in my eyes, that was a huge mistake. The thought was to have MULTIPLE elite scorers and candidly, I still view Marian as just that. He’s always been streaky and we just traded him for the lowest value possible. Doesn’t really seem to fit in a “plan” per se but I dont view us as being any closer to a cup after that move – in fact, further from it. Maybe it makes sense if Kreider or Miller are ready. Maybe it makes sense if Richie is on fire and some of the younger guys were cranking. Under these pretenses, taking an injured player and two role players for a superstar seems about as smart as Bloomberg focusing his attention on soda size.

Sucks – I was feeling the Clowe move!

  227. And before all the “We don’t score enough now” talk.

    A. Gabby hasn’t scored much this year.
    B. Moore is a big improvement on defense over Hamr and Eminger
    C. They were not going anywhere anyway.
    D. Oh well – Guess Nash maybe should score more and earn that 6th highest contract in NHL

  228. Hockey maven on

Don’t worry Czech, Kreider is supposedly scratched tonight…But, maybe he will be in – I guess it depends on if these All-Stars we got from Columbus can get here in time..
Can’t blame Gabby for leaving…Last straw was probably the Buffalo game where he was sat in the final period after, according to Torts, “He did not do anything in the second period”…Only problem was that we were down a man four times in the second period and Gabby played all of 2:05…I guess he didn’t hand out the water bottles fast enough for Torts…

I keep checking my calendar to see if today is April 1 – this has to be an April Fool’s joke…
