  1. I like the idea of getting Dan Boyle back in a trade. Right-handed shooting D-Man playing top pair minutes in San Jose. I guess we could throw one of our D-Men into that deal since we would be getting a solid D-Man back.

  2. Doodie Machetto on

BTW, this average ticket increase stuff is bull. Last year they said average of 6% and my tickets went up 36%. And I know I wasn’t alone.

Bulldog – Clowe for Boyle will never happen

Not that I would trade anybody but…….

    Clowe/Pavelski for Boyle/Kreider/thomas

    who wins that fantasy trade?

  4. is anybody having trouble viewing the new post? is it not at the top of the page? Is it below the previous post?

  5. Carp: I think it has to do with the “time” it was posted. This post say 1:05 AM on March 11th. Therefore, in the timeline that is the front page, it would go behind the other post. Something similar was happening this morning actually.

Doodie – If you don’t mind me asking what do you pay for season tickets to the Rangers?

  7. On your dashboard you should be able to edit the time this article was posted. If you make it, say 5PM then it should hop up to the top on the timeline. As it stands, the blog dashboard thinks that it’s posted earlier than the game review and thus sorted it accordingly.

Or we could just wait until a brand new post goes up and forget this ever happened. It will be known as the day the entire blog BANJ’d.

  8. fixed it. Thanks. Now where is BANJ? And Linda? And Tiki (can’t believe I’m saying that one)? And CTB? and Orr?

  9. You can feel free to delete my previous few posts of moronic drivel detailing my assessment of what went wrong. I won’t be insulted.

  18. Doodie,

To continue from the previous post I totally hear what you’re saying and understand the logistics of what went into that deal going down. However, I still stand by my point which was just that any of these quirky deals could happen depending on one organizations thoughts and a variety of other factors.
I’ll reiterate what I said earlier- this isn’t because I’m thinking Boyle for Clowe would happen, just that something that one sided wouldn’t shock me. Like you said before- No one expected Jagr’s resurgence. And Washington was in bad financial shape at the time and had a 6 million dollar contract that he wasn’t even coming close to earning.
But put another organization into that same scenario and maybe they do things differently. Maybe a different GM shops Kolzig or an aging Bondra/Lang to shed salary because they feel like Jagr has the most skill on the team. Just saying you never know. that’s all

PS- good trivia Q- what two current Rangers played for the Caps that year Jagr was traded to NY?

  19. Staalsie…..Trickle down….. It still hurts the working man…Bayonne guy who cleans my septic tank got season ticks this year. ….Cost of my last cleaning, he clobbered me…………Always trickles down to the working stiff.

  20. already resolved to stop paying for tickets because of the lockout – this is basically the final nail in the coffin

  21. hey Manny that was cute how you slipped in that Dubinsky and Anisimov aren’t top 6 forwards on this team when I can recall distinctly you were defending to the death that they were top 6 forwards on last year’s team which, oddly enough, is when that trade was made.

  22. Bloomberg acts like the people of NY are mindless cattle. Not everyone ordering a large soda in the city of New York needs to be saved from themselves and educated on nutrition..

  23. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

If we get a d man from San Jose, it needs to be Murray

Bieksa is really the D we need and I would send the mad bomber and whomever ever packing to Vancouver to get him (within reason)

Obrien from Colorado would be a good inexpensive 5/6 guy for us.

  24. Daddy, can I have a new horse farm? My old one is all dirty.

Of course you can, dear, soon as I sign this soda edict.

  25. We have sports in order to not die of the truth. Does the US Army covet North Korean generals?

  26. are the folks who don’t want Dan Boyle watching a Ranger team where Anton Stralman, Matt Gilroy and Stu Bickel aren’t members of the roster

  27. Dennis Rodman’s Diplomacy…..leaves meeting with Kim Jong, within hours, nuclear Armageddon likely

  28. McD about now sitting down to sliced potato dinner smothered in Blackbush triple distilled.

  29. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

People who want Boyle as a d man on the roster that is already play doh soft, clearly don’t want this team to win a cup anytime soon

  30. Kim Jong-un: You funny person, big black man. Bouncy ball for me. Take off shoe, let me see real feet. BONZAI!

  31. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

    Next 3 seasons

I repeat our D corps as presently constructed, soft as playdoh

  32. Bieksa would be a DREAM, Wicky. But I believe he will have to remain a dream (At least until 2016).

  33. Kenny Albert Rules! on

Hilarious comment by Kenny and Dave yesterday on the radio about walking to the Arena for the game vs the Caps yesterday morning; and how Dave is in better shape than Roman Hamrlik.

Apparently Maloney loves walking to the arenas.

  34. Fred Shero to ’79 Rangers: “We’ve got a big crowd out there tonight, boys. What say we put out those cigarettes and stow all that Courvoisier and Budweiser in the cooler for a couple hours?”

  35. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I have zippo problem replacing Stralman, gilroy (please do), and Bickel and even adding slew foot Boyle. As long as you add obrien and bieksa as well

  36. Dave Maloney, good analyst ….I thought he was gonna be an all star when I first saw him play as a teenager. Tells you about my eye for talent.

  37. “Greshner has those young legs, Jim, and that young Maloney’s got some head of hair”

  38. Also thought Leetch was too small when they drafted him. Had my doubts, but he blew them out of the water when I saw him play a college game live. Unbelievable skill.

  39. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Remember, we are talking about a d corps that one of our “tough” d men got bongo’d to the brink of death by semin.

  40. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Am I supposed to be excited about the hamerlik claim?

I thought it was a terrible claim and he addresses nothing IMHO except cap space.

  41. If Leatch came home at night and they told him his house had burned down and his family and dog died, he would say, “Well, guess this is not my day.”

  42. that this team was forced to claim Hamrlik should offset any fears you might have about Dan Boyle’s “soft” play

  43. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Again, I fail to see how adding Hamrlik makes it logical to add Boyle. It makes it even less logical in my mind.

If you are simply talking about lack of depth (which I assume you are), we can’t afford Boyle with hamrlik on the cap. Not and address forward issues.

We need toughness addressed far more than anything else on D.

  44. gregm_oldsection403 on

MSG is going to run into trouble with its ticket prices soon, just like many of other area teams who jacked prices after getting new stadiums (yes, MSG isn’t ‘new’ but they spent a billion to renovate it).

Anyway, after the bloom of the new stadiums wears off, the teams are having trouble. The NYY have had to lower prices a couple of times over the past 2 seasons because they are having trouble selling tickets. The NYM…well, they stink, but they have had to drop prices too.

The NYJ and NYG only have 8 games to sell, so it is a little easier for them, but both teams advertise tickets well into the season.

MSG will be in the same boat in 1 or 2 years even if the Knicks and Rangers are good. And god forbid if one of the MSG teams stink.

  45. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

And let’s not forget how tough mcdonut is, he gets abused post whistle by Hartnell and lucic among others every chance they get and he lost a fight to Adam henrique…ADAM HENRIQUE…in the playoffs last year.

  46. maybe I’m missing the part where you stated Roman Hamrlik, Anton Stralman, Matt Gilroy and Stu Bickel are all better options than Dan Boyle

  47. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Lloyd – Brian Boyle for Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski, Clowe, 2 #1’s and a #2

I say not enough – rangers need more coming back

  48. Dan Boyle has a cap hit of…hold your breath….$6.7M. Which is, more than we have space for. Even if we trade Boyle in that move.

    So Clowe = $3.6 and Boyle = $6.7

That means you guys are trying to add more than $10M in cap space. Who are we moving to get a solid, but soft, D-Man who will play on our 3rd pair (depending on who we move) and free up that massive amount of space?

Again, highest paid D-Man cannot play on our 3rd pair.

  49. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

I never did. You are missing the point. The way this D is soft the last thing it needs is another soft d man. That is the point.

They need toughness back there right now, not Dan Boyle.

  50. My son told me he recently read where Richards gives the highest % of his salary to charity of any NHL player.

  51. yes but none of this has been about money except some notion that Boyle is too soft and thus makes the team worse than Stralman, Bickel, Gilroy et al.

  52. iDoodie Machetto on

JG, I’m not saying lopsided deals don’t happen, just that Jagr was a special, nonhockey related circumstance. And his contract was 11 million. Rangers were only on the hook for 6 or 7. I forget whether the million deferred came out of Caps’ 4 or in additionto it.

  53. Wicky is right that we need a good physical D-Man who can drop the mits. Especially over Gilroy, Hamrlickin’, Stralman, Eminger and Co. Team needs a D-Man who can throw ’em to protect Fragile Staal who is a magnet for freak injuries.

  54. Without any NHL ready prospects this year it makes me wonder if Sather would have interest in attempting to sign Leopold in the summer. Or even trying to get the right package together for a guy like Keith Yandle.
What’s the point of grabbing depth players on D if Sauer isn’t coming back and there’s a concern for toughness?

Staal, McD, Leopold, Girardi, Del Zotto and Stralman. Eh people would still find something to complain about with that top 6.

  55. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Let me break this down another way for you

If out top 7 dmen were obrien, Bickel, mcquaid, coburn, mcilrath, orpik, and bieksa in no particular order, then yes adding Dan Boyle would make perfect sense.

Although at his salary he is an iffy add cap wise any time.

  56. Just saw the Semin Bongo job on Staal. 4got about that one. Either one should have been made to wer a dress after that’s one.

  57. iWicky "Frag Out!!!" on

Valid point, I honestly think mcilrath would have been a call up at some point this season (whether he succeeded or not during the call up tbd), the knee injury set him back IMHO from the call up this season.

But I could be incorrect on this

  58. Kim Jong-un, the North on

You no harlem shake around here big boy! You eat too much you go now.

  59. You likee infected sprouts and bay worms, skyscraper man? I no bombee Detroit for you.

  60. Wick, I honestly haven’t seen or heard much on Mcilrath aside from what I hear from other fans. Once healthy again, I’d prefer to see him play well and be promoted before they take on a big contract for a top 6 dman.
But as I continue to read posts I’m not sure what people think is the bigger need. Is it a quality dman? or a bruiser? because there’s only a select bunch that play tough and are legitimately skilled- ie- Chara, Weber, Bieska and several others. Guys Sather isn’t getting his hands on.

  61. Thx. As we discuss this it’s dawned on me that it’s actually been quite some time since the Rangers chose to go after or have signed a big name on defense.
McD came over as a highly regarded prospect but that’s about it. When was the last time they brought in a guy for D that wasn’t a Woywitka or Eminger type?

  62. Kim Jong-un, the North on

Ha ha you bounce-y ball for me black man. You make me laugh funny man. You funny round eye.

I think when McIlrath is ready he is the 6th guy on Defense. He’s big, has grit, and can hit like a truck.

Let him finish Buckeboom 101 first.

We will have 2 Mac Trucks on the Blue line, one will skate-score-and shut you down. While the other one will knock you down or KNOCK you OUT!!!

Now with Kreider finding his way with the Whale, he will only be stronger come playoffs, he will take over either Pyatt or Boyle minutes in the future.

Hags, Miller, Stepan, McDonagh, Del Zotto get better with each game. We are so lucky to have such a young team, that is already a cup contender. With the new salary cap coming down next year, this team is going to be contending year after year.

  68. NYR – new a girl in high school who went by that name, Big Gulp.. Had a sister, Little Slurpee.

  69. Hahaha. I was just reading the story about the judge shooting down Bloomberg’s soda law, and he called it “arbitrary and capricious” which is what Kramer said to Dean Jones.

    She replied, “Your fly’s open.”

This your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.

  74. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

SO, MR. Dolan, Mr. Sather, Torts, ANY WORD ON STAAL? ANY DIAGNOSIS YET????

  75. Just catching up on the stuff on the board today and all the trade talk. I just remind people there is a salary cap and based on Dreger’s report of the players taking 20% instead of the usual 10% escrow it sounds like business isn’t as booming as Gary likes to let on which entails means be wary of the Cap going down.

  76. For Those About To Evrock on

Can anyone explain to me exactly what the maximum of 50 players signed per team actually means? Is it a maximum per year or a maximum at one time? Can the Rangers just trade an unimportant minor league player for a draft pick to open another spot to sign someone? I’m just trying to understand better what’s going on with Zuccs. T’anks!

  77. With that being said. Before everyone starts adding payroll to this team. Start calculating into whatever empty space is available towards paying raises to the likes of Hagelin, Stepan and McDonagh this off-season. McD only at 1.7 now (will ask for at least 3.5 maybe more) Stepan and Hagelin both make 875K, think they might want a raise considering some people on this board are funny enough to think they are better than top line players on the Penguins (you know 20 goal scorers with Cups on their resume).

And before you keep wanting to add depth. Just remember the following year, raises will be owed to Girardi, Cally and Hank while losing the automatic 20 goals of Gabby and his 6 mil cap hit (no matter what people think of him). About 1/2 of that 6 mil off will be used for Girardi and Cally raises.

But hey, we will still have a 7.8 mil cap hit on 1 guy so hopefully he will score ALL of their goals.

  78. It means you can have 50 players under your property at any time. Those include current NHL 23 man roster, AHL property, draft picks playing juniors, college etc. That’s why you see guys playing for CT in AHL that are not Rangers property like when NYR decided to sign JAM after a good AHL season.

  79. “Hahaha. I was just reading the story about the judge shooting down Bloomberg’s soda law, and he called it “arbitrary and capricious” which is what Kramer said to Dean Jones.”

CARP, holy crap! I had that thought instantaneously upon reading the judge’s comments.

  80. In desperation, NY Mets have signed a horse to play left field. Reputedly good glove, can rip the leather off the ball. Played today in Port St. Lucie. First at bat, slammed a rocket off the center field wall, stood at plate admiring it. “Dammit, run!” hollered Terry Collins. Horse says, “are you kidding, if I could run, I’d be at Belmont,”

  81. For Those About To Evrock on

So I’m correct in assuming that the Rangers could trade a low-level AHL player for a draft pick to open up a contract spot?

  82. Someone better look out for Carp because if he saw what just happened in that OTT-BOS skills competition his head would explode. A point was almost decided on a guy trying something you’d see in an All-Star competition. I don’t hate the shootout (necessary evil) but when stuff like that happens, there’s gotta be a better way. Ties are not the answer. Fan shells out $100 wants to see a result. You don’t go to the movies, play etc. and not see an ending.

  129. newbie, if you ever feel you don’t have anything nice to say about anyone, come sit here next to me.

Kooz – I disagree – I am largely ignored – just talking to myself – I can do that without typing

  131. Eddie, you ruthless funk, sorry, take it back, but may be it’s true, who knows, that stuff is always right, the pop culture rules..

  132. I used to watch chess on WNET with the big boards explaining the moves, the possibilities. Don’t know why I fell off that wagon. I have a small library of chess books.

Newb – interpret that – I be having no idear what you be squawking about.

  134. I think they only read each others’ posts, a few of them. If any of them read mine, they would finally type: “What in hell are you talking about?” but they never do. Maybe they don’t want to get my Irish up and take their lumps.

The Fischer Spassky match with Shelby Lyman in 72? I remember that well – I have a nice chess library – prolly 8 hundred books and magazines

I like quite a few people who post here….some good funny smart peeps for the most part.

  137. And I even read those few to get insightful hockey perspectives, but there’s too often a bombastic, solipsistic edge.

I try to pretend like we are all having a conversation – include others, be welcoming – acknowledge what people have to say……..

We do a lot of dinner parties…. That is the way I treat my guests….many of you, while virtual friends…. Are still friends …..

  140. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Indeed….. Thanks for the kind words…. Always nice to be appreciated…..this blog is a muse…. For you as well, I spose

  141. Well. this the hour I have to get off the Tullamore and get to sleep, finally… I t was a great ride, gents. Tilll later…

  142. What happened to Tiki? Carp forgives and forgets some of the…whatever it was. He asked for him today.

  143. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

You know who is kind and gentle? Besides our night time regulars? Ilb – that dude is always trying to be inclusive…..

  144. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Tiki is a hoot – I enjoy him immensely. Miss Jimbo lately too…. And boom boom bath gate

Rhode Island ranger is another superb mate missing in action…. Many wonderful characters on this blog – carp has cultivated a special special place.

  145. I’ve noticed. He’s one of us. Too sophisticado to be brought down. Very insightful comment he made this AM about ‘europansies.’ He’s so palpably correct, some should be shamed, but he put it nicely and in good humor.

  146. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Great wit – intelligent and sophomoric ….clever and moronic …..all at the same time – sometimes

  147. I like it here (for one reason of many) because I get to free style verbally and play with language when my agent or editor says I go too far. Hate the overly plotted, commonplace stuff. And also, always a big hockey fan.

  148. Gaby? Mystery. But others are rising. Maybe there is a method to Tort’s madness. I mean, it’s his living, his life. I’m hesitant to contradict him, though it’s fun to do here and there.

  149. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Agreed – I deal with math geeks (I’m one too) and its nice to discuss the topics we do….. I love the rangers…..and as I said, many of you, I have over for dinner…..you’d like our real life friends – smart and clever (unlike me:) )

  150. yours modesty is becoming, but unwarranted. Vonnegut “and so it goes, and so it goes.” I’ll let you get some winks, wot?

  151. More comfortable seats? are you kidding me? I’m in 211 was in 335 and the seats are definitely smaller. The bathroom lines are much longer. Raise them all you want for the few times i go now.
got my season tickets in the blue seats in 1976 for $4.25. Now face in what was green is $79.

  152. Larger, more comfortable seats? Not in the blues, and the space between rows is smaller making everybody stand up to let somebody through. After lockout, season subscription blue seats were $26, in 7 years now $53. Dolan!!!!!

  153. This is all because of Tickets Now and TicketExchange. Teams are well aware of the aftermarket demand for seats and know what people will pay. I’m getting priced out myself.
