It’s Go Time! … Lightnings at Rangers

495

Game 19.
Lightning at Rangers.

The cavalry, or most of it, is arriving just in time.

Rick Nash (likely concussion) and Michael Del Zotto (likely hip) and Ryan McDonagh (who knows what his injury was/is?) will all play tonight. Matt Gilroy (flu) and Arron Asham (back spasms) will not play.

That means Steve Eminger plays on defense (after a strong game Tuesday) and Stu Bickel plays on the wing.

Henrik Lundqvist starts in goal.

Chris Kreider was assigned to Connecticut (AHL) today.

Ya boys have lost four in a row, three of those in regulation, and five of six, as they play the second of an important homestand. They are 2-0 against the Bolts, who are missing Ryan Malone and Sami Salo.

  1. Re-post because I’m an idiot:

don’t agree, Czech. As a scorer he sucks, and most games this year he has sucked. but we saw him as a legit third-line player last year, a guy who could check the other team’s top guys and kill penalties. Again, I definitely don’t want to sound like I’m defending him, because I don’t think he deserves to be defended this year. But they are a better team if he figures it out and is the player he was last year, just as they are a better team if Richards comes out of it. And Gaborik.

And I think Kreider will be back in the near future.

My other daughter is no picnic when it comes to spending money. That one wants to be a doctor that specializes in high risk pregnancies. She will probably be off to either UPenn,Johns Hopkins, or Rice University in TX. All three go for a rock bottom price of 56k per year. Med school at about 75 k per year for 4 years!

  3. What’s the over/under tonight on goals scored while Sam is talking about the Garden of Dreams?

  4. YEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWW!!!

Boyle had a bad season last year until the last ten- fifteen games. He is not a third line center who gets second line minutes. Not a good thing. He had a career year a couple years ago that he will never duplicate again. That year was third line quality, what we’ve seen for the majority of his time here has not been like that. Too bad.

  7. WOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS …you say something Carp?

    RAAAAAAAAAAAAAANGERS gametime…..is NOW!!!!!

  8. Again, you’re going by goals only. Because Boyle was really good other than his offense last year. And he was really, really good when he started to kick one in here and there.

  9. Top schools, Czeck. When the kids go to college, you ironically wish you were poor. And if you’re not, you will be. Maybe move to Virginia and apply to UVA as a resident. Mucho cheaper. What do I know, I just paid and paid.

  10. Stanger Nation on

If Boyle locks his man down, doesn’t take dumb penalties, stays upright, kills and blocks, possesses the puck with some level of competence – he did his job

    is the gate open?

    CoosCoos

With the figure skating and the college coming next year, I am already poor. But UVA is a great school, cheap too if you live in the state. I have a choice of Reutgers, or TCNJ in my state.

  12. I have a feeling at least two of the injured players are rushing back too soon. Anyway, their return won’t make much difference; Tampa Bay is due for a win against Rangers.

  13. Stanger Nation on

    Discredited

    Me say war.

  14. Czechthemout!!! on

i will repeat. Boyle gets fourth line production for second line minutes on most nights. A big reason why we dont score enough.

  15. Czechthemout!!! on

Anyway, 1:07 am here in Milan. Off to Venice in the AM. Have to catch some sleep.

    Carp

Looking forward to reading your review in the morning. Good night all.

  16. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

NYR fan – Boyle hasn’t used his backhand or anything else for that matter this season.

  17. Couple of diehards behind the pressbox that do nothing but holler “shoot it!” every time anybody touches the puck on the PP.

  18. We actually held a puck back and went around around the defender at the blue line. That’s how you make plays.

  19. _Couple of diehards behind the pressbox that do nothing but holler “shoot it!” every time anybody touches the puck on the PP_

    Mr and Mrs Månnu?

  20. That was a good PP, too. And Richards looks like he actually has a little giddyup tonight. Maybe it’s the TB uniform.

  21. 4generations 4 cups on

WHY did bickel drop the mitts? No reason to give them ANY chance to swing the momentum!

  22. This is a dangerous spot … do they think it’s too easy and get away from the aggressive cycle, and start making fancy passes. Or stick to it and pile on?

  23. RANGERS LETS GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO!!!!!!

keep it up,,, keep it up!!!

    Callahan with a AWSOME pass.

  24. Don’t seem to be getting commercials on GameCenter tonight. Can someone keep me updated with Pitbull activity please?

  25. I don’t have a problem with Bickel fighting there. It’s a lot different at home than on the road. That fight got the crowd even more into it.

That roughing call on Eminger? Pansification?

  26. DUMB DUMB DUMB!!!!

LW, Steve E. Minger’s quest for 100 points is is going to have to wait 2 minutes…

  27. pansificaton, yes. but he still gave him an unnecessary jab to the face.

Dumb penalty especially with TB’s PP.

  28. If msg was a real network asshat daneyko and Stan fishsticks would never be allowed to foul up my tv

  29. 4generations 4 cups on

when sam rosen said “thats 20 shots” i literally said out loud “theyre going to score. the rangers always give up a goal when the shots are ridiculously lopsided and they let the 2nd or 3rd shot in.”

    bingo. in the net.

  30. duckbill platypus on

The commercials over the cable system of Mr. ‘Mickey’ Dolanz are just as loud as the non-game moments at the Garden of Madison Square.

  31. total domination but only up by 1 goal..

nash looks great BUT idea is to put the biscuit in the basket………

hagelin makes everyone better on the rangers he has been there best forward so far for the season, unreal…

  32. eddie eddie eddie on

manny – pay attention to the game and the in-between period action and get off your device

  33. This reminds me of the Islanders game I think it was where the Rangers dominated the first 12-15 minutes then gave up a late goal in the first and an early one in the 2nd.

  34. Heck of an inspired period. Flukes deflection goal (and its 1 goal on *3* shots).

Nash is unreal. Hagelin is like mini Nash. Can’t say enough great stuff about that little blonde hero.

Gaborik on the 3rd line? Who knew.

    Ryan O’Reilly who?

  35. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Great period…Garon kept this a game and two of the best offensive players in the league got the Lightnings on the board. Tailed off a bit in energy over the last five minutes, but should be a good result if they can keep this up.

  36. Cross Check Charlie on

I don’t know if I should be optimistic because they dominated the first period or worried because they’re only up by a goal.

  37. nash leads the team with style points but only has 3 goals.

ooh and ahh all you want get a goal….

  38. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Hank should have positioned himself where the deflection was so the original shot could have gone in without getting deflected.

  39. If you guys don’t think a goalie should be ready to anticipate deflections, I’m not sure what to tell ya.

  40. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Carp, I meant from the ridiculously high level they started the game with…not in the Rangers of the last six games way.

  41. Watching the TB intermission show instead…

They’re doing some kind of magic moments from Lightning history for the team’s 20th anniversary. Apparently winning a SO in the Anisimov rifle game last year is one of them.

  42. Gotta keep playing the same way. Play inspired. Keep the pressure on. Keep getting quality shots and firing at the net.

  43. dammit, dc.

No, Tiki, just that I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a goalie get beaten on a deflection before.

Now what type of sentence is Iron Mike trying to conjure up?

  44. eddie eddie eddie on

Even If the rangers lose this game….but keep playing hard like this……I have no complaints!!!!!!!

  45. stranger nation on

E3 – our 40 goal scorer is playing with Boyle, the hockey gods are cruel

Step is playing like a legit #2 center, now if only we had a #1

  46. That was a HORRIBLE shot by Richards. Should have passed it to the wide open man in shooting position.

  47. I finally figured it out. Dale’ is slang for Let’s go. Or Here We Go, which is But Light’s slogan. So there.

    Pitbool.

  48. I wish Sam and Joe would stop talking about how many shots the Rangers are getting, and how they’re totally dominating. Signed, superpsyche.

  49. Carp, can barely keep my eyes open for game….will shoot and score you an e-mail tomorrow….dang it, I can never remember how to bold!

  50. 4generations 4 cups on

i just cant even stand richards anymore. i know he’s someone we need but his absolute refusal to shoot on the point during the powerplay reminds me of some wade redden, michal roszsival shiznot.

  51. Asterisk…..why can I never remember a hartnelling asterisk, especially when this place is littered with them!

  52. Two observations from my first game at the Garden this season:

The folks yelling SHOOT pretty much know nothing about hockey or at least don’t understand the areas of the ice in which the man, or two man, advantage actually benefits you.

    And

JT Miller does the little things, away from the puck, really well.

  53. “Hey, Sam, something crawled onto the back of your head and clawed itself in there.”

“Cooscoos can get under your skin, Joe, but he plays the game.”

    “Sure does, Sam.”

  54. Did you see that D man staring down ice at Henrik for two seconds as Nash went around and through? Holy moley.

  55. The trolls here are generally quite tame, like nnsnse. What happened to Ricky M2, that angry grocer guy who wrote in upper case, the polite Penguins fan, Bruins Champions 2011, A Local Fan?

  56. The Habsrule guy posts every day, impostering one of you guys and talking about Dubinsky’s butt, but doesn’t get through.

  57. Lundqvist looks like he’s forgotten about the wife, kid, guitar and clothing and is focused on redirections this period.

  58. Gravy, You Know You Want It Marty on

This team wearing Rangers jerseys is pretty good. Hank anticipating more deflections in the 2nd and 3rd.

  59. Maybe Heinkie got a text in between the 1st and 2nd period saying his daughter is feeling better. When’s this guy gonna learn, daughters come and go, Cups last forever…

  60. That was a nice save. I dont know how other teams are able to get that shot through while ours get blocked nearly every time. Another nice save on the 2 on 1.

  61. What’s Tort’s plan for Gaborik?

He’s working up a sweat opening and closing the bench door for the rest of the team tonite

  62. Gravy, You Know You Want It Marty on

Carp, is there a running total of stars because I think Nash has been one in almost every game he’s played.

  63. Might the Avs pursue trading him for roster players since they weren’t satisfied with the compensatory picks? Or do you think they’ll make him suit up?

  64. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Man, the two days off and Torts looks like a genius!!!

Oh, I guess it helps we got back half our team.

  65. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Nice to see Hanky put in a game with some nice saves. Even Richards looks a little spunkier. A little.

  66. He can’t be traded for a year now, Latona, so they’ve got to live with each other for a while. Unless they buy him out, I suppose…

  67. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

I’m actually happy that they needed Hank in this one, and he’s got his game on. Hopefully, this is the start of another run for the whole team.

  68. Dave Andreychuk said the Lightning D had been doing a good job on Nash. Hate to think how many shots he would have if they’d played him poorly.

  69. According to the Lightning broadcasters, “Dancing Harry” stumbled down the stairs while dancing and they hope the Rangers stumble down the stretch of this game.

I wish Dancing Larry would have stumbled and suffered -paralysis- an injury.

  70. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Nash is a freaking monster. Does it matter if he doesnt have a ton of goals. Really, what he offers is FAR more to a team. A great player he is.

  71. Now, Nash scores. Great effort all night. Best player on the ice. I’m just disgusted that this is his 2nd goal in garbage time this season. Hopefully, his luck will change when games are still being decided. -Yes, I know we blew a 2 goal lead to the Bruins with 1:30 left. That’s an anomaly-

  72. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

Now if Gabby can find his game, they can go back to being a really dangerous team.

  73. Olga just wants someone to salute his…oh, never mind :) That’s it….I’m outta here…ta all!

  74. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Amazes me how much Torts must have worked. He must have changed his whole strategy these last two days. Man, they looked so bad this past week. Tonight: Magnifique!!

I guess you can’t fire Torts anymore. Yet.

  75. Carp, who votes for the 3 stars, Helen Keller, Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles? How does Nash not get chosen?

  76. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Really, they got great contributions from many players tonight. A win you can build on.

  77. nash, hagelin, and stepan, or cally for 3 stars.

henrik had a nice 3rd period.

    richards was not putrid tonoght.

boyle only fell 2 or 3 times.

    miller looked pretty good.

nice win, they should look like this most nights…

gabby on the 3rd line for good reasons. he played ok…

    no 1 played horrible…

  78. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Trautwig and Keenan joking about Nash not being a star tonight, let alone the first star. Joke. But, then again, who cares?

  79. Gravy, You Know You Want it Marty on

He’ll be the number one star on Rangers Report anyway. Where it counts.

  80. You can win there Olga , LETS not .

    THANKS Blogmomma!!!

RANGERS WIN RANGERS WIN RANGERS WIN

Nash’s goal was the clincher ( unofficial) Tiki , if it was garbage Nash wouldn’t got patted on his back by coach. Think next time.

    RAAAAAAAAAAAAANGERS!!!!

  81. They must have let a Garden of Dreams kid do it or something.

I mean surely these writers watched the game tonight b/c Nash had the dominant performance I’ve seen since Jagr left

  82. huge win tonight boys and girls. started game an hour late on dvr. long day at work now off to eat dinner

  83. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

    Yes.

And the Ranger to have the most ever shots on goal was……#7. 16 in one game in 1968, I believe.

  84. You recognize confidence when a player controls the puck at speed and has patience. Hagelin is now on that cusp. Nash has long been there. Cally is, well, Cally, who could ask for anything more?

  85. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Ooohhh, man, the teams in the east are gonna be SO upset Nash is in the east. Some of his play tonight is highlight reel stuff.

    BEAST OF THE EAST!

  86. Olga, I second the motion, and stick the hat, too.

CCCP, no star for Nash, easy, Revolution devours its young

  87. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

    Joe M – “isn’t that right Sam?”

    (Leans in for a kiss)

    Sam – “I’ve got a Foxwoods 5, Joe”

    Joe M – “don’t tease me”

  88. Turning point. It’s all about that 3rd period in the *loss* to the Jets. Man. This team has played differently since then.

Perfect matchup to get it going against. The Rangers match up so well against the defenseless Lightning.

  89. “He’s a big boy,Joe.”

“Sure is, Sam. He tends sometimes to be clumsy and slow, but every team needs one of those.”

“He can be stupid, but stupid in a good way, Joe.”

    “You nailed it, Sam.”

  90. It could happen, eddie. They are really close to going an entire calendar year without losing a game in regulation. I think they have 4 more games to go after tonight to get that done.

  91. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

JoeM – “Sam, you doing anything after the game?”

Sam. – “what’s on your mind, my big D man?”

JoeM – “feel like a soapy bath?”

    Sam – “you devil?”

JoeM – “I’m a ranger, my lil tiger”

  92. The devils better searching the nearby Mickey Dees, and pry Marty outta that booth and back onto the ice cause hedbergs like an iceberg….minus the cool.

  93. Rangers or Blackhawks, eddie?

JT Miller is terrific. I now understand why he’s staying up here. He’s so good away from the puck. It’s the little stuff. In the 3rd, we have the puck in the Lightning’s Zone and JT Miller skates as if his life depends on it to get off the ice and change for Stepan. Works so hard!

  94. i missed the game but we won!! nash scored too. 3 of the 4 goals that hes scored came against tampa this season. and 12 shots? wow. looks like hes doing just fine now.

  95. Dave Maloney “You’re going to have a better chance with your better players back in the lineup.” Duh

  96. Nazem Kadri had quite a night. Guess the Islanders forgot to cover the Leaf’s 3rd line Center. All this and he’s not even playing on a line with Kessel.

  97. Oh. Also what shouldn’t be lost in the game tonight was a VERY strong showing in the faceoff circles.

  98. And Eminger played 4 minutes. After that terrific showing against Winnipeg. He got Bickel’d tonight. Man that guy is inconsistent.

  99. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Chico: “That Jets goalie, whatever his name is, was REALLY good. He won the game for them…..dandy, game-saving saves.”

  100. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Chico: ” We lost because Marty was out. Ya know he is the greatest goalie ever so playing without him makes it easier to lose.”

  101. Matty"Monster Nash"Boy on

Chico:” Kovie didn’t score tonight. That’s what he gets paid for. When you don’t score, you don’t win.”

JR:” Hey, Chico? Shut the flock up”
