Thoughts:
1) I don’t get too excited over goals sometimes. Carl Hagelin’s first goal went in off his leg or glove or something. His second goal, if Henrik Lundqvist had allowed one like that, you’d all be saying he stinks. But Hagelin played a wonderfully aggressive game. It was his speed that caused the turnover on the first goal, and his speed that backed off the defense on the second, and he made some really good, smart passes (like the one on which Rick Nash scored late) and played a strong game in the offensive zone, which is where the Rangers needed to solidify their game and stop trading chances with the Lightnings.
2) Speaking of Nash … How about the power move and shot on Hagelin’s first goal? How about the shot on his own goal? How about some of the plays he made in the defensive zone, and some of the plays he made in the neutral zone? Complete player playing a complete game. The goals will come. They will.
3) That track meet early on … the Rangers can now play that game because they have the speed and some finishers, and those two elements change things quite a bit. Sometimes you take what the opponent gives you, and that particular opponent does invite you to play that way. But the Rangers will lose a lot of those games if they play that way, because those games are coin tosses, and let’s face it, though they have outplayed the Lightning twice now (Tampa Bay was 6-1 when they first met, and is now 6-5), they don’t have the stable of forwards the Bolts have. They won’t beat Pittsburgh playing that way. And the Devils and Bruins won’t let them play that way. But they will score enough and win a lot more playing the way they did the last two periods, which is defending first and counter-punching. Defense is what is going to win. They fell short because of goals last year, but they got where they were by defending.
4) That all said, the Rangers’ best player remains their last line of defense, and in the last couple of games, Henrik Lundqvist is now looking like the Vezina Trophy winner again. He hadn’t been bad, but he hasn’t been as good as you expect him to be. Guy was money last night, especially against the Bolts’ studs and their odd-man rushes early.
5) And that said, the Rangers defense kept alive its streak of sliding to the ice on opponents’ 2-on-1s and failing to prevent the pass across. I know, nit-picky.
6) Two comical moments. One, it appeared the Rangers took a too-many-men penalty (which would be the fifth home game in a row they’ve done so, and Darroll Powe even went into the penalty box. For some reason, it wasn’t called. Two, that ridiculously bad line change when Marc Staal fell off the boards and back onto the ice resulting in a 4-on-1 from which the Rangers never recovered and Vincent Lecavalier scored. John Tortorella probably didn’t think it was funny. But one of our commentors, TheDude had the line of the night when he said he “heard the Benny Hill music during that line change.”
7) Ryan Callahan’s shoulder looked good on the steal-and-score, then he got into a scrap in front of the net on the next shift. I know it’s in his DNA, but do you really want him doing that so soon?
8) Dan Girardi sure makes the defense look different, doesn’t he? Everybody slots down to their proper minutes, and Girardi (two assists, and a shot off the post, too) played 22 minutes against the Bolts’ best. Played some with his old partner, Marc Staal, too. Block Ness Monster.
9) Anniversary: Feb. 11, 1968 … the last Rangers game at the old Garden.
10) That was probably the last time they had good ice. Was pretty bad after the Knickerbockers matinee yesterday.
11) Going back to the defensive style: The Rangers gave up almost nothing the last two periods, against a really dangerous group of forwards. Kinda like last year, when they were a difficult team to play against. As Ryan McDonagh said a few days ago about what’s been missing: “I think playing hard, playing with a kind of mindset of playing hard for each other and trying to beat the guy across from you. I don’t think we have that mindset. I don’t think we’re playing mean enough at times, passionate enough in our own zone. That’s where we’ve always been our best. Last year we were so hard to play against in our own zone.”
12) And McMonster was pretty mean again last night (so was Staal). At least this time when McDonagh cleared out his man, clean and hard, he didn’t get called for one of those pansification penalties.
13) I thought the new additions—J.T. Miller, Chris Kreider and Darroll Powe—were again contributing factors. Miller, I thought, made a couple of mistakes, but also created some chances for himself and drew a couple of penalties in battles.
14) Arron Asham. I am speechless. Good for him.

The real Kenny Albert’s Three Rangers Stars:
(seriously)
1. Carl Hagelin.
2. Henrik Lundqvist.
3. Ryan Callahan.

AFrey94’s Three Rangers Stars:
1. Henrik Lundqvist – vintage Lundqvist performance. Wish he could have gotten the shutout but #1 star from me will have to do.
2. Carl Hagelin – two goals and used his speed effectively throughout. Seems like he’s (hopefully) turned a corner from his rough start.
3. Rick Nash – an offensive force as always. The way he uses his body to shield the puck and make plays reminds me a lot of Jagr.

Your poll vote for the Three Rangers Stars:
1. Carl Hagelin (30.56 %).
2. Henrik Lundqvist (23.92 %).
3. Rick Nash (17.28 %).

Two More Points.
Excellent game. Great write-up.
Boston, you better be ready.
I loved how on a few rushes, Hagelin, Asham and Nash all shot the darn puck instead of passing it.
Three goals where I was yelling “SHOOT!” at the screen, and they shoot and score. That alone made me feel like this team is “getting it”, whatever that means.
I know from experience it is easier to pass than take responsibility for the shot in those situations. It shows me a lot when guys start taking those shots and scoring.
Carpy, thanks a million for the review. Spot on. Just spot on.
It sure seems we need to play Tampa every other game!!
If Torts can round out 4 lines that he is comfortable with, it would be an upgrade from last year. It was not so great watching him rely on just 3 lines and 4 or 5 d-men in last year’s playoffs.
Wow, what a monster the Nasher is. It would be nice to see more goals, but really, who cares?? He does so many other things. What a complete player. Stay healthy, Nasher.
They are looking a lot better
Keep it up Rangers!
The Bolts had the game play by play blocked out down here, and I had to listen to their announcer crew. Puh leeze! And it was a strange game to watch. It appeared that thru most of the game, Tampa had control of the puck, but Rangers kept scoring the goals, and the frustration in this broadcast crew was becoming very evident. Ah so. ( old Japanese comment).
Keep em coming.
Good synopsis, Carp. I agree, the Rangers were looking much more like that tough-as-nails team we loved so much last year. Lots of finish on this team, and frankly, nobody on the first 3 lines can be dismissed by the opposition as not a threat to score.
I’m not surprised at all by Asham. I’ve watched a lot of Flyers hockey and there have been times where he’s showed some sick hands. The guy can play, he’s a huge upgrade over Rupp.
vintage king there last night. Stoned them on glorious chances which could have given the lightnings the lead after the rangers grabbed the early marker. good win. Get your work boots on for tuesday.
Great game last night. The team has been playing with more jam lately, lets see if this continues against Boston.
I really like Hagelin and Nash on same line – you could put either Stepan and Richards in between, it doesn’t matter.
Gaborik is also nice with Pyatt… Again, insert Richards or Step, probably Richards…p
I was at the game last night. It seemed to be a predominantly younger crowd (20-year olds) – but also very quiet. This game would never be confused with Ranger-Flyers, in terms of volume.
Nit-picky, I know Carp, but when McDonagh was back facing Stamkos and AN Other on one of the 2-on-1s in the first period, he stayed on his feet and you could argue forced Stamkos to shoot (and still got his stick on the shot).
Carp – great stuff in write up
seems like everyone Nash plays with gets better, just ask Gabby since he moved from his line. B Rich still not in full stride (we hope)
with Hags playing well after Torts called him dumb, next time he regresses Torts may really lower the boom
with teams like the bolts and isles falling, the Rangers steadying themselves, the Conf is starting to shake out with Debs, Pits, and Bs on top tier, then probably NYR. the ledge is getting less crowded.
Our schedule seems front loaded playing Bos 3x, Pits 2x Bolts 2x and Debs in first 12 games. bring on Car, Win, Wash, & Fla, oh and the Ice Mets too.
If D is going to take the chances they did, the forwards have to balance the ice and get back to help. Stall and MDZ must have green light but it could get scary.
The Kreider had a quiet game, but did set Gabby up for a one timer in front on a nifty pass
Our 4th line did some really good work last night, particularly in the neutral zone. Their speed, jam and overall aggressiveness makes it easier for Torts to roll a four instead of a three at the MSG roulette table.
Obviously, superior players such as Paul Martin, Tom Gilbert or Jack Johnson would’ve taken away the pass, hit Stamkos into the glass, stolen the puck and gone end to end to score, but it was still an OK play by McDonagh.
Fran…very funny. Can’t wait to see how we play against Boston, they are extremely hot.
Do we foresee the Derbils maintaining this level of excellent hockey the rest of the season? Is fatso going to win another Vezina?
Game after game, year after year – just maddening!
As Colin Campbell had said in the past while he was Rangers’ coach, “they’re just interchangeable parts” once they put the New Jersey sweater on.
This team is an absolute train-wreck. Led by a drunken-conductor who’s intent on derailing the team sooner than later.
Nice write up as always Carp.
And you know the boys have arrived with Arron Nasham scoring!
OK maybe they haven’t arrived fully yet but with Cally & Block-ness back in the lineup & the vezina king playing lights out it sure feels the confidence is there.
LGR!!!
I had Hagelin, Nash, McDonagh.
Well LW you know how it is, McD isn’t much but he’s all we’ve got :p
Glad to see them putting it together a bit. But I honestly can’t get excited about beating up on South East opponents anymore. (Even though Tampa has given them fits in recent past) they’ve looked helpless at times v the Atlantic. And that certainly wasn’t the case last season when they brought their A-games. . Bring on SE foes all you want- they won’t be the ones that ultimately matter later on.
This post makes me sound pessimistic. Not trying to be. I think they’ll get hot soon enough but it would definitely bring some relief to see them take some points from the Bruins, Devils and Pens
LW3H: I read the article by Pierre (Cowboys fan) LeBrun and Scott (If it’s not Canadian, it’s crap) Burnside too. With their projected Team USA rosters, I don’t know maybe they (LeBrun and Burnside) are hoping McDonagh isn’t on the USA roster.
Back to the game. I know this much, Torts sure got a lot of juicy footage for film sessions in that first period.
Good morning, boneheads!
Great review, Carp!
Steve Yzerman made some good moves in Tampa, but he hasn’t solved their goaltending issues yet, and it was obvious that their defense had problems with Rangers speed.
I thought that they displayed much better passing last night, including long passes.
How about this: they went from playing two and a half lines to complete 4 lines. Three out of four lines are threat to score every time, and the fourth line makes it difficult for opposition to leave their zone. Go figure.
I wonder, what will it take for JT to be sent back to AHL? Either Boyle has to look like GTO in practice, or JT has to flip the bird to Torts. Because I highly doubt they will worry about burning 1 year of his contract, not the way he’s been competing…
Has Beyonce ever looked better than last night? Even Ellen DeGeneres wanted to jump her, right at the podium on live TV.
Who are these Rangers? We went from being a pack of hyenas to a herd of gazelles. Except Asham, who is still a wildebeest.
LONG LIVE THE WILDEBEEST!
Good game. Not much more to say that Carp didn’t already say. Really fun to roll 4 lines all night.
Thought the kids were good. Being mostly invisible should be the low bar for them. I was happy until The Kreider took a pretty stupid penalty. If you’re not on the scoreboard then try to not get noticed, kids.
We really match up well against those teams that like to open it up because we are so strong defensively.
but we may not match up as well as last year against the NHL’s equivalent of Pete Carril’s Princeton hoops squad – the NJD and other teams like them.
Carp – as usual, even after a blizzard when we thought you might BOLT for FLA, an excellent review. One thing that was noticable I thought was the addition of Girardi to the D – after the free wheeling first – he just is un-noticable most of the time, but that’s because he makes the right plays on the blue and in the Neutral zone. Good for him – and excellent for the Rangers as they really clamped down and controlled the N zone – not allowing the Bolts to get an traction there. He really makes a difference back there – its the little things that really add up.
also saw the Girardi “Beginnings”. His face is starting to get all jacked up. Not yet at the Ken Daneyko level, but Girardi will soon only be able to be a hand model.
Dan Girardi is a HOCKEY PLAYER.
I don’t like the way anybody matches up with the Derbils right now.
A hockey player who delivered Chinese food on a rusty 10-speed with a bell and granny basket
Looks like the chemistry is starting to form! Let’s hope they can keep it rolling, but now that the players are learning each others’ skill set, I hope it is only up from here!
Looks like Pyatt, JT Miller and Strahlman were all (-1) tonight. Trade them?
Hand model? JP Prewitt?
On second thought, Girardi can’t hand model for the same reason as most of us idiot bloggers – our hands are all gnarled from, how should I say this, off-ice activity
Now that the rangers are healthy and torts has broken up nash, richards and gaborik, the rangers look to be settling into the season. If the 4th line can play like they did last night I see the rangers putting up points and go on a nice run.
yeah – we’re in the 8 spot now, so let’s just end the season today and start the tournament before Cally inevitable gets hurt again.
Does Torts let Boyle play Tuesday on the 4th line in Boston? I know roster moves are unlikely after back to back wins with Torts. I think Boyle would be revved to play in beantown if he is allowed back in. The only spots I could see him taking for a game would be Powe or Halpern.
Torts said in the pregame last night (paraphrasing) “I think Brian will be a big part of this team in the future” or something like that. But didn’t he say that about Dubie last year?
That said, Boyle will probably still be sitting Tuesday. Notice how I talked myself out of that in a few short sentences
for the first time all year the rangers are in a playoff spot 8th.
we open at new jersey wed night. lol.
all in all great to be above 500 for first time. this team will show me they are back if they go into Boston tom and win.
lucic krejci horton line top 5 in league. mac must be out against them
Great plan, Duberstein. Let’s get the other teams to agree and hand out that President’s Trophy and get to the playoffs.
Next wee, 2/19, THE PRUST returns to MSG. Mark those calendars.
Loved seeing the nastiness from macd ..shades of beuk-aboom we will need that in Boston against Lucifer,we Lucic
Manny: What is this mythical beast you refer to as THE PRUST? I have not laid upon it, but I have heard fables that it is a ten feet tall, sharp elbowed, bleu blanc et rouge marauder with a dozen fists and sticks, and snorts fire from it’s snarly, bearded face.
Oh, and it kills penalties too.
What is this? A school for ants???
I don’t think there is a Gahden demon up in Boston, which cause the Rangers to tremble, they
have to play always the way they play there..sometimes. But Lundqvist has to bring his best game face.
I say keep the line-up the way it is. Why mess up a winning streak?
That was a fun game to watch! Hags was all over the place, nice interview after the game. When the kids start putting in goals like the last two games (Hags, Kreider, & Miller) this team is going to be turr to beat. You know Gaborik, Nash, & Richards are going to get their goals.
This team is starting to gel. Rolling 4 lines, and getting a goal from Asham line was a thing of beauty!!!
As much as we would like to see Boyle back in Boston. Boyle could play for Halpren, but I liked what I saw out of Halpren, in the penalty kill.
The Pope is retiring. First time in over 600 years. Avery also retired! Coincidence? I think not.
Carp, love the write up as always but I disagree heartily with #1-the object as Herm Edwards reminded us, is to WIN THE GAME and you do that by scoring more goals than the other team-you yourself point out later that thats what undid the team against the Debbies-and to see some offensive firepower, from an organization that has traditionally had trouble scoring, is a beautiful thing-
and what really drives Ranger fans nutz is that the Devils, who during my childhood were called by the Great One “a mickey mouse organization”, are so good year in, year out, when we collectively cannot seem to find out perverbial behinds without a flashlight-I accept the Red Wings being good year to year but they dont play a few miles from my team!
the question E3, is who has annoyed more people in their respective lifetimes, Avery or the Pope?:)
Romeo – Dubi was a big part ….. in bringing Nash in :)
Maybe Boyle could be a part in bringing in a reliable 3rd pair D?
today a good time for a Charp?
So we end up with 14” of snow last night. I end up with a 12’ drift in my back yard. Anyone else get dumped on?
Carp – do you see Torts putting Boyle in for Halpern?
Educator – good question….. Prolly a toss up…..think I will spray some incense
Pope Sean I
Sioux said dump
I was wondering about Boyle, i was about t ask if he was injured, but it seems that he has just been sitting right? Dog House ?
Romeo said laid
Jitterbug played during the gasoline fight…... Jitterbug…..a bang bang bang….on a sunny day
Has Anyone seen boom boom this season?
E3 pope’s usually choose a name dont they?
Avery will be Pope Vanity I, unless Bieber or Beyonce beats him in the telephone vote.
JR – “the hyperbolic intimidation is resistive uncommonly”
Justin Bieber has a deeper voice than most other girls her age.
Pope vanity I will introduce the latest spring fashion in papacy robes and hats – the jc penny collection
Uk – I do loves me that Bee on Say however
The white puff of smoke is what we await…. Sean will be pope John torts XXIV
Popes John Paul wrote many a fine medley
E3 dominating this morning. Lunch time is the best time of the day.
Kenny Albert – you and Dave are the best voices in hockey PERIOD!!!!
JR -”any time you constitute good scoring – the dividends are inertia”
JR – “the presentation of an epidemic within goal scoring is key”
JR – “the protocol of a goal scorer is essentially circulation”
It would be interesting if the Rangers take off from here, which would be exactly the same point as they did last season after starting 3-3-3.
After this game against the Bruins, they have 14 in a row versus the weaker (at least not the Debs, Pens, Bruins) teams in the conference. A lot of Caps, Jets, Habs, and Sabres sprinkled in there. Need to see a good effort against the Bruins, even if they don’t win. If they are for real, should be able to reel off about 20-22 of the next 28 possible points.
JR – “as a former player having played, and therefore retiring, the game I once played isn’t me playing anymore”
Gravy – rangers beat Bruins in beantown and we fans will rejoice.
JR – “the rangers have sent notification that they are extensions within belief”
JR – “the after all is preceded only by most indicators”
5 of the 30 NHL Teams have not lost or played in OT or Shootout.
JR-”if the rangers can consternation and lubricious, the playoffs are certainly”
JR – ” the shootout is a resolution of either team tied the score”
JR – “at the end of the day, your value is full fledged, if you can win”
JR – “there are many games I remember sometimes. Usually because of whatever I was thinking”
E3 – If you could have dinner with one person dead or alive, would that person be JR?
JR – ” if I am able to institute awareness existing in constant ratification, so be it”
Kenny – JR is a voice of this or any other generation.
Kenny – my three dinner guests dead or alive – JR, and any 2 others that could help translate whatever he is saying… As I have no clue.
JR – “the one goal that was evasive for me was its own denial inside 2 minutes”
Kenny, thanks to you it looks like the real Kenny Albert will be doing three stars for us on a regular basis.
Good afternoon, Sally!
JR – ” having been born and bred in this world, I feel so lucky”
Carp – That’s awesome!! Can we declare him an official bonehead?
JR – “when I see these players play today, I often am individualized”
JR – “I hope the real Kenny Albert will join co-forces with me in the studio”
The real Kenny Albert providing three stars would only be supersceded by the real JR doing the same.
JR – ” the ultimate acceleration within a power play is support at the point”
E3, do you think JR’s three stars would be:
1) The Sun
2) Alpha Centauri
3) Minnesota North
I think so, Kenny. Not sure if he comments, but he reads.
Gravy – that is brilliant …. You must join me as, say, Milbury ….. But I have to run for now… Be back in a few hours…
E3, do you remember the actual JRisms that started this whole thing. I can only remember miscombobulated … I’m sure there were a few other classics.
JR – “when you hoist the Stanley Cup, it almost seems like you’ve won it all”
Carp – adismal was another…. And there was one you and I kicked around where you thought one thing and I another… Foreclosed or something like that..
Adismal was a good one.
JR – “carp, you never did answer who is smarter? Me or a rock?”
My brutha
Vegas Line
The next puff of smoke will come from:
The Vatican 2-1
Tortorella’s ears: 1-10
Carp – Gabby’s back as the right wing with Richards. Is this a big thing for him? Just think if he get’s HOT again, and ALL 4 LINES start score :)
haha hilarious cooscoos.
There was also this one

Just sayin, if someone sticks his glove in my mouth and, while trying to tell him to get the damned glove out of my mouth, my teeth happen to close while trying to say the letter ‘m,’ well, Que Sera, Sera.
Just heard this psychotic stat:
Kovalchuk is averaging over 26 minutes of TOI per game to lead the NHL. Number 2 is 4 minutes behind (Alexander Semin).
Third is John Scott, fourth is Bickel.
I’m anxiously awaiting one of those NFL fashion plate running backs to get brought down by a hunk of their ladies’ hairDos. I do believe it’s legal.
No, LW….those are LEAST time on ice.
He also said :”for all intensive purposes”.....
He said something else that I had to ask on the blog whether I was hearing it right….I’ll recall it soon, I’m sure.
How does Grabovski not get suspended for biting? Anyone?
You guys OK or NOT OK with that decision?
The Alberts in their field are like Tiger Woods and Michelson in theirs. They all started developing their trades while still in diapers. The Alberts had a toy microphone instead of a cut-off, lofted wedge.
“For all intensive purposes.” LOL
Biting? The Real Meal, Hollyfield.
I just can’t. NO BITING. It has to be a severe rule. Come on.
That reminds me of when I was younger, I used to think the phrase was a “forcive habit” rather than a “force of habit.”
Real meal, haha
There was something even better than that, coos….I can’t recall, dammit
Yeah, Adismal and all intensive purposes. Haha.
If Ritchie Rich brought those choppers down on Colton Orr’s neck, he’d get the Nobel Peace Prize and a game misconduct.
“Adismal” is characterized by little or no attraction to dismality.
speaking of biting, why can’t daddy MARV Albert volunteer to do the stars when he is in town?
Doodie, do you remember as a kid all the songs you thought you knew, then later in life realized that you had made up in your head the lyrics that were never really there in the first place? I think this started when singers began to stop enunciating.
Anyone notice that when E3 says he’s going to the bathroom, but will be right back, that hours pass? He must have some ritual going on in there.
Pyatt has certainly been bringing the ruckus to the boards, and especially behind the goal
Good afternoon, Carp!
Is there some kind of Charp in the works?
Pyatt, stayin’ at a Hyatt, try it ‘fore you buy it, goin’ grey? dye it, Wyatt (Earp), Captain Bligh(it), my brudda. (Just filling in for Eddie while he’s gone)
quick – everyone join hands…
WE WANT A CHARP!
WE WANT A CHARP!
WE WANT A CHARP!
Where else are we supposed to get our Sauer updates?
Charp wednesday at noon, right between Boston and NYI games.
SO IT IS WRITTEN, SO IT SHALL BE DONE
Maybe the real kenny Albert will join Carp on the Charp.
Or maybe he’ll at least send over “Little Kenny”, like Chris Rock’s “Little Penny” Hardaway guy
Was Red Riding Hood the worst werewolf movie in the history of Hollywood and in the history of werewolves?
But Amanda Seyfried…humana humana humana
The Rangers home (nee away) jerseys are like hollywood starlet’s plastic surgery…year after year when you see them, you just know somethign has changed ever-so-slightly, but you can’t put your finger on it. Yet, when you put the 1994 edition side by side with the 2013 edition, it’s like two different teams. I’d like to see them switch back to their whites for the home games so we can see the other teams’ colors when the visit the Garden of Doom
I feel like a true champion when I’m on this stage alone.
I think I’m 8-for-our-last-15 on here
big fan of Amanda Seyfried Fat Guy; Jennifer Lawrence too
coos, it’s also because I would sing the words before I actually knew them and never bother to get it right.
Can we talk about how BITING has no place in the game during the CHARP?
Was it Carp or someone else on here that was comparing the participants to the number of people who regulalry post on Chad’s LoHud Yankee site?
To me, the numbers don’t tell anywhere near the story. Have you guys ever read their stream of consciousness over there? It’s like listening to gardeners argue about the best type of lawn grass for the different seasons. ZZZzzzzzzzz.
I’d much rather be over here for a shot and a beer with you bozos.
Ditto that Duberstein
JR – “when I played, regulation was 60 minutes”
But JR, regulation is still 60 minutes.
JR – “what?”
JR – “while hockey is not an exact science, therefore”
Manny, you’re right. They’re shouldn’t be any biting because guys shouldn’t have any teeth. Gumming? Now THERE’S something that belongs in the game.
Marty Brodeur never bites during a game. He swallows the donuts in one.
There’s no question that Miller is going to stick with the team beyond his 5 games, right?
Marty doesn’t bite because he swallows his food whole.
JR – “when a ref make his final decisive, it’s pointedness to argue”
Jay Tea shall forever more be a Ranger. No more whaling sings for him.
Marty and Chris Christie, in the same room, staring at the last doughnut defy the laws of physics. Large things are not supposed to move that fast.
Duberstein: I will say this. I have checked out a ton of blogs in my lifetime looking for some witty commentary. This place really felt like “e-home” to me. There’s nothing like it. Even when we discuss other sports.
JR – “during the playoffs, an overtime goal is the difference between winning and continuing”
Saw vid of Sauer on McDonut’s Beginnings’ highlight of first goal – man that guy was solid –
Watched replay of game – Nash is NOT afraid to crash the crease, repeat, Nash is NOT afraid…
GAbby = Gartner???
JR – “never change horses in the stream”
S.nation, my Brutha. Gabby’s nickname should be root beer, cause that Brutha can float.
“Picture yourself in a train by a station
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties
Suddenly, someone is there at the turnstile
The girl with colitis goes by.”
JR – “the rangers can go all the way and still get there”
“Gimme the Beach Boys to free my soul
I wanna get lost in the rock ‘n roll
Just drift away.”
just to echo what Manny, said that Grabovski was able to bite a player and face no suspension is absolutely insane. this league does everything possible to reduce the amount of contact and then when it comes to a criminal act they sit on their hands. ridiculous.
Colitis? Didn’t he wear 25 for the rangers?
E3….”therefore,...” Love it.
Shades of a Fenyman physics lecture.
Biting should be ok. I draw the line at swallowing whole. This isn’t a league of Boa Constrictor!!
That’s right, Lloyd. Vibin’
Biting is pretty absurd. Totally pathetic. Especially when it’s done by Grabovski who is INSANE.
I swear I can remember JR describing one player as having a great “work ethnic.” But it could be someone else.
I haven’t skated in over a decade. Foot problems made me stop playing hockey and I didn’t really care to skate at the rink just for fun. But I’m looking to start again so that when my son is old enough, I can take him out on the ice. Where can I get cheap skates from and who makes good skates these days?
Lloyd, it should be pointed out that anyone sitting on hands should be fingered and it should be a match penalty.
strangers, Gabby couldn’t hold Gartner’s jock.
Didn’t Torts just say that the new kid has some bite in his game?
Jock holding has no place in this game!
The Cougar 9000s are the Rolls Royce of ice skates, Doodie. You can find them at Surgical Appliances.
well done, Latona.
They also have used ones.
Doodie I bought mine at Play it again sports. $40 Nike, hockey skates – they are white and grey!
My kid was giving me a bad time, until he seen a clip with Gretzky wearing the EXACT same skates, in his top 10 goals clip, too funny!!! Best purchase I’ve made.
Until I found a pair of Bauer from the early ‘40. For $3 dollars at thrift store. I think they were worn maybe 3 times. I took them in to get sharpened and the owner laughed at me and asked if he could hang them on his wall. Then he offered me a $100 for them. Nope I took them for a test drive, then hung them on my wall :)
In all seriousness though, I need to get some skates. I have a wide foot, which complicates matters in terms of finding skates that aren’t much more money than I’m willing to pay for just once a week recreational skating.
Manny – Since this place is an e-home, do you mind if I e-crash on your e-couch?
by the way,
I’m not internationally known
but I’m known to rock the microphone.
You can also get the Bobby Reidells, comes with a pompadour.
Sioux, that’s awesome (particularly the Bauers).
My father bought an old bicycle at a garage sale that was made by some English bicycle company for like $25. He looked it up and the bike was made in the 60’s. It had all of the original parts, including a dried out and deteriorated leather seat. I told him he could probably sell the bike to some hipster in Brooklyn for like $1000 and then buy a new, nicer bike, but he didn’t want to go through the hassle and just bought a new seat and new tires and now sues the bike for himself.
Doodie what size are you? And width?
My buddy owes the store I’ll have him look for you.
Doodie – that was the bike Girardi used to deliver egg rolls
How much can you get if you sue a bike?
MM – “The best way to elimate biting in hockey? Mandatory shoe beatings.”
Sioux, in skates, I’d probably be either an 8 or 8.5 EE. Honestly, it’s been so long I would have to go into a store and get resized.
Griardi’s father, “You want new skates, wash dishes!” He looked like a tough, big old bird. Love it. Doubt Brian Boitano’s father said that.
South Park did the best Brian Boitano
Doodie they are pretty cool They look like a pair of wing tip dress shoes, with blades skrewed to the bottom. Hand made in Canada, and the Bauer’s name isn’t even wore off yet. Nice that the old guy wrote his name on the inside, a true find for sure.
Seriously, I would check out a place that sells used skates, find a pair that fits and is broken in. $3 to sharpen and you are good to go.
Doodie, size 8? You can wait until we see what happens with Boyle and then you might be able to buy one of his skates cheap and cut them in half.
Doodie – the other choice is to do what JR used to do in the old days – just unwrap and strap 4 sticks of butter to each foot
Yeah, the problem is there aren’t exactly a ton of stores like that in and around NYC.
doodie,
hockeymonkey, hockeygiant or icewarehouse.com
All usually have something on sale. Maybe get fitted at a store and order something from one of those sites clearance bins.
Try this
Tyler Myers for MDZ
Doodie – Check it out and let me know. He hase a whole wall full of used skates.
I’ll call him for you.
If people on here kill Boyle for not playing his size, then they’ll absolutely hate Myers. He’s got a bigger cap hit than MDZ too.
FGD, that was me. Was talking quantity. Not quality. Much funnier, nuttier, zanier here … especially after losses.
Wrap four sticks of butter to each foot, then put on your Blue Bonnet and drive your Imperial down to the rink.
MM – “Keys to the Rangers winning the Cup…less Eurotrash”.
Doodie your in luck. For $50 you can get a pair of Winnwell GZII. They run wide and he has a 2 pair left 8 and 9.
The 8 is like a 9 1/2 shoe size.

This is for Sally, and I also think for tiki.
Sioux, where is his store?
Valdez. Give him a few months to dig out.
Doodie – Google Winnwell Hockey skates. You can order a new pair under $50, and they will ship right to your house.
Sorry, Doodie, I know you’re serious and I’m driving you nuts. :-))
coos, don’t stop. You are making me laugh.
I’m in the land of the Fighting Sioux. North Dakota.
But I googled them, and you can buy right from any hockey sight. They run wide, so that is the skate they stock for wide width problems.
thanks for the heads up Sioux. I think I’m going to have to go to a brick and mortar store this weekend and get sized up. It’s like when I go to Best Buy to try out electronics before I buy them for less and without tax from newegg.com, but for skates.
I think if I had to hand out an unsung hero award for this season so far, I would go with Stralman. He has more than held his own and is looking like a really good depth signing. I thought he was very good in last year’s playoffs, and this year he is picking up where he left off. Good for him.
Carp – do the cub reporters bite each other when there’s a disagreement?
Doodie Google “PLay it again sports” Fargo, ND.
MM – “Skates are good and all, but they’re no match for a loafer and an ill humor.”
Siouz – what could you suggest for my width problem?
I’m not afraid of heights; I’m afraid of widths.
Fred Shero, anybody remember him? “Take the shortest route to the puck carrier, and arrive in ill humor.”
MM – “I’ll tell you who doesn’t have a width problem. Eastern Europeans.”
Come on e-over, Duberstein. You can e-crash at my e-house on my e-couch and we can e-eat some e-food. Maybe we can even e-order in and get e-drunk!
dude, just, dude

Trade MDZ to get Myers then trade Myers to the Kings for Kopitar, who’s almost certainly on the block.
When CCCP gets drunk, the next day, is he nursing a hangover?
Charles’ Wang house.
LW said Wang.
MM – “There comes a time and a place when a man has to take off his skirt and grow up. That time is 12 years old, and that place is anywhere I am.”
guys like Bobby Orr, Larry Robinson and Dave Taylor, to name just a few, are living in shacks when compared to even the Laurie Korpikovskis of the modern NHL
gravy said width
doodie – make sure you wear those skates in the store for about an hour..walking walking walking…want them tight, but no blue toes…
also that youtube link of JR classics had a great exchange between JR and Milbury
Milbury – “you do think concussions are a problem, yes?”
JR – “of course, I had quite a few of them”
DOH!!!
Hey gang…Staal Wart hates to change the subject but,
It’s here, my least favorite Hallmark holiday…Valentines day.
What are youse getting for your special someone? I’m stumped…
My wife and I never get or do anything for each other on Valentines day but
this year she decided to get me something ARGH!!!WHY? WHY!!!
Staal Wart needs help…
I was for one was not impressed last night. thought they were very sloppy, and fortunate that Hank was sharp. they badly need a defensive defensemen. MDZ, and Gilroy together was scary.
Bobby Orr makes plenty as an agent. Likewise for Robinson as a coach.
bull dog, I agree that defensively, it wasn’t one of their best games, especially in the early going. But you had to have liked what you saw from the offense.
bull dog, for portions of the first period, they were sloppy, and Hank bailed them out. The line change goal was ridiculous. But, they largely shut down a very potent offense.
That third period was vintage 2011-12 Rangers.
staal wart – always get flowers…dozen roses and then a collection of other flowers…
Bickel > Orr
JR – “i was asked why i wore a tux to get a vascetomy and I answered, ‘If I am gonna be impotent, might as well dress impotent’”
Doodie,
the offense is much deeper now with Miller and Kreider in the lineup. you asked before that Miller has to stay now, I think he should, but my gut tells me he is going back. if not him then Kreider goes down. Torts wants Boyle back in the lineup soon.
back to the original “eddie, eddie, eddie?” like it.
minus the commas.
if they play well they won’t go down. Boyle will get back in another way. but miller had some awful 19-year-old rookie shifts last night, and some very good ones. they will be careful with his development.
E3
Scotty Bowman asks him for coaching tips
Robert Front tried to steal his diary
Jerry Garcia once borrowed his bong
he is the most interesting man on the blog.
Robert Frost…
they are a better team with the two of them in the lineup. I like Boyle, and feel the Rangers need him to play well. Halpern has not been bad, neither has Powe. so to me, logic says when Boyle comes back in, it is going to be for Miller or Kreider.
He speaks German in Chinese
Rice borrows white from him
When asked, how high, he says jump
Stay thirtsy my friends
JR – “any inducement is sustainable at most situations”
bull dog – kids must play…too good, too fast…too much young energy…
JR – “best book i ever read?.....hmmmmmmm….let me see…hmmmmm”
Milbury – “How dense are you anyway?...good lord”
JR – “leave my weight out of this”
JR – “the ranger power play is mostly miscombobualted becuase of the forwards at the point”
JR – “even to a casual or formal viewer, the capitals have been adismal”
or an injury, bull dog … or they make him watch a while longer.
I think Miller will stay for now. He has one more game, after that his 3-year deal starts. I do not think they will worry about that. He can go back to Hartford anytime, and come back easily, not subject to waivers.
Will anyone be at the game on Sunday against the Caps? I am going.
I wish I were going to the game on Saturday. However, I will be in Napa drinking champagne out of a trough which isn’t too bad either…
Sunday
LOL at “Intensive purposes”...Should try

JR: “Rome wasn’t billed in a day.”
Carp’s post game reviews are better and more informative than anything you read in the newspapers.
IMO
BrandonPrust8 About to take off to Florida for a great road trip! Warm weather n a couple wins #Habs
that’s wonderful
LMAO @ Intents of care
JR – “when I look up at the sky thru my telescope I can see plants and consternations”
JR – “by my calculating, I pre-detect the rangers to finish”
JR – “Rick Nash may be the 7 card stud the rangers were signing”
JR – “Milbury is a clown,,,thinks he is so brainy….nothing but a suit of intellect”
Fixed it
Is this thing on? :-)
JR – “even though I am not a Protestant, the news developing about the pope retiring in uniquely”
Hi Ilb – how is lil angel?
Not much left after you are Pope….maybe he will start all over and become an alter boy.
Dubinsky scores
e3, lil angel is perfect. She’s everything dreams are made of. Everytime they needed her to go poop, I said “Boston” and immediately she pooped. She knows the definition of Boston. :-)
Tiki – right on cue eh? :)
Nasty, I will be there …
ilb, does it start when he plays his fifth game, or after he plays his fifth game? In other words, is D-day tomorrow after his fourth game (assuming there is a decision to be made)?
Keep the kid here….
Yes, Carp. If he plays 5 games, contract counts. After tomorrow they need to decide. Either way, if they decide to “slide” his contract another year, he doesn’t have to returned to juniors, even though he played for Plymouth of OHL last year before joining Hartford for playoffs.
Be returned…
NHL-CHL (OHL is a part of it) contract expired last June along with CBA. Even if they have a new one ironed out, he was already playing in Hartford
Tomb – I wish the very best for Dubi.
I don’t think they’ll worry about it. They burned one year of Kreider’s contract just so he can play in PO last year
“You simply cannot bite in the National Hockey League.” Bob McKenzie
LOL…
Lets hope that JT scores 5 goals, makes no mistakes on D, and takes no penalties but draws four.
That would probably get him that fifth game, EEE.
if he plays more than 5.
It’s been a long time since the rangers had a room full of kids…. Maybe mid to late 70’s. JT, The Kreider, McD, hags, MDZ….and Danny G & Mark Stawll are not old by any means…
My brutha – next thing you know, players won’t be able to a beer and a smoke on the bench either….National Harassment League.
have a
The old CBA stated “if the player plays at least 10 games”. This year it’s amended to 5 games. Am I reading it wrong?
JT in 3 games has more goals than Step, Boil, and Girardi combined. Must keep him here and let him learn and grow.
Hey only 12 games this year for Dubinsky’s first goal. Progress.
I really thought Dubi would average 25 per year. I still like him.
Dubinsky is poised for a breakout year!
More like Goalton Orr, amiright???
More like Frattinthenet, amiright???
Goalton Orr is funny Mr.D
“Dubinsky is poised for a breakout year!”
Yup….he’s going to have more zits than JT Miller!
Andres Deadbird played with Ulf Kneel-sin
I got a pimple, right here
now I’ve seen everything, Orr with a goal.
