It’s Go Time!

Game 11.
Lightnings at Rangers.

Dan Girardi is expected to return after missing two games with an undisclosed injury. He will replace Steve Eminger on defense. Otherwise it looks like the same lineup (and the same line combinations) that beat the Islanders Thursday, meaning Brian Boyle is prucha’d, along with Stu Bickel and Eminger.

Henrik Lundqvist starts in goal for the 10th time in 11 games. Mathieu Garon starts for the Lightnings.

<———— don’t forget to vote for the Three Rangers Stars over there on the left, and follow me on Twitter: @RangersReport.

Hope to have a live chat at some point in the coming week; maybe Wednesday. Also, still looking for volunteers to do the Three Stars for my game review stories. I have plenty of games available. If you’re interested, drop me an e-mail at

  2. I haven’t seen the replay of this so called biting incident but if your going to stick your fingers in somebody’s mouth there is a good chance you will be bitten.

  3. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANGERS!!! lets go gog gogg og gog og gogog!!!

    Lets do this!!!!

  4. Boston vs Buff good exciting game. Boyle plays scared other than blocking shots thats the problem, always has been.

THreeeeee periods of non stop hockey action!!!!

    RANGERS RULE!!!!!!!

    JT Miller TIMEEE!!!!!

  6. Tom Pyatt, brother of Taylor and a former Rangers draft pick, is a former Rangers draft pick and the brother of Taylor.

  7. Good evening, Carp! And LETS GO RANGERS!!! Maloney Balogna’s on the radio, I’ve got some EBC Witte, and I’m a happy gal.

  8. Crombeen is one tough mother to be back after only one game. He was knocked the Byfuglien out.

Also awesome that my iPhone knows to auto spell Byfuglien.

  9. @rangersreport

That was the 257th consecutive opponent 2-on-1 on which the Rangers defensemen went down and didn’t prevent the pass.

  10. It’s not really just an MSG thing though. I find that none of the games are loud anymore except when WPG and MTL are home.

  11. Ugh. Damn youth. A veteran with thin skin would certainly have bled. This guy and his pro activ riddled leathery skin!

  12. Don’t like the lose play by the rangers, giving up to many odd man rushes, going to get burned if they tighten up there defensive play.

  13. carp, that’s what I meant to say. To wide open, don’t like that, especially against the lighting, need to tighten things up.

  14. MDZ needs to know who is on the ice. I highly doubt Torts will be singing praises for him going in deep when Vinny, St. Louis, and Stamkos are on the ice.

  15. Yea. Wide open isn’t that bad anymore because we have skill too.
It’s still bad though. Just not as bad.

  16. @rangersreport

I know it’s in his DNA, but Callahan really shouldn’t be scrapping in pileups like that … shoulder looked OK on the goal, tho, didn’t it?

  17. @rangersreport

Don’t know if NYR can win consistently in games like these, but their forwards sure seem to enjoy them.

  18. This is the kind of play I expected from them. What an outstanding period thus far, offensively that is…

  19. Isn’t it kind of a blessing to now have guys who are legit goal scorers? You have Hank back there-to me it’s ok not to dump and chase and grind every fuggin game if ya got the sticks on offense

  20. This is where we really need Pierre McGuire to interview Tort on the bench and ask him just how pleased he is with the way this 2-0 lead has been earned.

  21. Torts will sure be doing some collective nose adjustment during this intermission.

On the other hand, Tampa’s defense is having serious difficulties handling Rangers speed. Wow, I can’t believe I just said that.

  22. Doodie Machetto on

I didn’t know anyone besides the Staals had a brother. I thought that’s what made them so special.

  23. interesting first to say the least. happy to be ahead but trading chances with the lightning skill lets take it down a notch. the odd man rushes first 10 mins cant happen.

pp has to extend lead in games

    hank some timely saves early

  24. “Don’t let your limited mobility keep you from coaching the New York Rangers between 1998 and 1999. Acorn Stairlifts.”

  25. Pidto looks like the type of guy who would hit on a girl, get rejected and then call the girl names.

  26. Haha. I mean the whole line originated from a woman breaking the crying rule. So….. You have to break the rule to make the rule.

  27. Czechthemout!!! on

Absolute nonsense from some of you guys. The Rangers will thrive in games like this precisely because they have the better group of forwards, defenseman and the goalie. This will be the case most nights. Including Pittsburgh.

JT Miller looks fantastic! His poise in carrying the puck up the middle of the ice hasnt happened here from a center in a long time. Everything is usually allong the boards. He also had a sequence where he held on to the puck until his linemates set up. Outstanding.

The speed of this team now is awsome!

The fourth line on this team can finally play! Let there be no doubt about how much better Asham is than the useless Rupp!

  28. More than anything, this is what having Lundqvist while the other team doesn’t have Lundqvist looks like.

  29. Careful there, CTO. This team scores over 5 goals per game. And they haven’t gotten any PPs yet. The Rangers need to tighten up defensively.

  30. Is there a way to vote for the “three clowns of the game?”

These no-talents are well on their way to a 3-2 loss.

  31. Izzy Mandlebaum on

Well, for a guy that will go into the stands and beat someone with a shoe, there isn’t much Milbury WOULDN’T do.

  32. Joe Mich impressed by the +1 Girardi got on the second goal by watching Carle give the puck away to Callahan from 100 feet away.

  33. Carp, how dare you insinuate that Callahan shouldn’t be fighting every opposing player after every whistle during every game.

  34. I like the play of the 4th line tonight, getting pucks deep, banging body checks, keep puck along the boards and keep tampa pinned in there zone, tire out the tampa defence..

  35. Hmmm, apparently the does not equal sign isn’t allowed here. It was supposed to say “does not equal Garonqvist” but now it looks like I’m knocking Henrik.

  36. Two guys together in front of pressbox, one wearing Rozsival jersey, one wearing Voros. … and those two probably couldn’t have been any worse than the two TB D-men on the last Hagelin goal.

  37. Henrik playing like a Vezina winner tonight, stopped about 5 shots prior to the goal. Puck bounced right to Vinny, bad luck.

cccp – like you know, this is like a seriously good team, my brutha

(Rolling On The Floor Laughing So Hard My Sombrero Fell off And I Dropped My Taco)

  40. Stop coaching PP, start coaching line changes. Looked like Staten Island Wagner College team there.

  41. pp cant break game open make it 4-0 30 sec later bad change and now we sweat out another one with the lightning probable for some pp in 3rd

0-3 on pp 1 goal there and its over

  42. “If the speakers ever broke in this place, it would sound like a doctor’s waiting room.”

Because every few minutes someone would bring up Avery and someone else would should “CANCER!”?

  43. Czechthemout!!! on

Right Joe, the Rangers played better defensively but Tampa played better because the Rangers stopped playing offensively at the Ten minute mark of the second period.

  44. devs lose top guys every year with parise the best they have had and they dont miss a beat. i am just puzzled each year how they never drop off

  45. It’s amazing, Brodeur is playing probably his best hockey in years, maybe trying that deer antler stuff, maybe not and the devils team plays that same system the devils have been playing forever. It doesn’t matter who they lose, they seem to plug a guy in and they don’t mis a beat, truly remarkable.

  46. rangers win and sabres loss in regulation has the rangers in 8th after tonight up from start of day in 12th.

  47. Clarkson’s start might be the best example of how skewed the first part of the season is.

With 2 goals tonight has 9 for the season, he’s now in a 2way tie for 2nd overall in the league and if he kept that pace up over a regular season he’d be on pace for 56.

Let’s see what he has 12 games from now….bet it be less than 18….

  48. the good news is the salary cap will save us ranger fans from sather signing clarkson. When are GM’s going to realize there only good in the devils system.

  49. Thankfully, I think the Rangers are short of cap space to sign Clarkson to the inflated deal he’ll get and never live up to. Unless Sather guts the team to get him, of which there is always a chance, obviously…

  50. e3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my friends on

i have the “who did ray lewis murder today” app…..surprisingly quiet tonight

  51. Czechthemout!!! on

The Rangers out played the Devils last game. If not for two stupid plays in front and fatso standing on his head, Rangers win the game. Just sayin.

  52. e3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my friends on

how is it that Brad Park’s #2 doesn’t hang from the rafters?

  53. 0’McDonaugh! That’s what used to happen when you stood swatting at the NYR goalie’s hands.

  54. Mmmm….let’s see. Richards has had 2 90+ point seasons, has won a cup and a Conn Smythe trophy.

Ryan Callahan’s best season is 54 points and as an NHLer he’s never won anything….

    Next question!!

  55. Its actually not bad up here anymore. Parking sucks and there’s tons of snow but the roads are clean.

  56. e3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my friends on

i love seeing Eddie’s #1 streaming down from the rafters whenever i am at the garden

  57. e3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my friends on

if asham joined the black eye peas – perfect compliment to will i am

  58. The rangers would be foolish not to buy richards out after next year. I would be very surprised if they don’t use there second buy out on Richards.

  59. Speaking of bets, I had about $187 stored in a account for a few years. I decided before the Ravens Patriots AFCCG this year that I was going to put all the money on the Patriots winning, in hopes that they’d lose. The payout for a Patriots win would only have been about $38.

Next day, someone from BETUS calls me and asks if I placed the bet since the account hadn’t been used in so long and the bet didn’t make any sense. I told the guy I did, and that I placed the bet so that the Patriots would lose, it was the best $187 I ever spent. He starts laughing, says that’s the first time he’s ever heard that someone wanted to lose money, then asks if I want to deposit more money in the account. I told him, next time I want a Boston team to lose, Ill be sure to deposit more money to which he laughs again.

  60. e3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my friends on

i love seeing the pens lose…they rate with flyers for most hated team…devils win the show bet

  61. e3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my friends on

on the radio feen the world’s most famous arena seems extra quiet tonight….is anyone even in the seats?

  62. e3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my friends on

hawks up 2-0 and no losses yet…amazing 10 of their first 12 games on the road too…

  63. e3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my friends on

carp – if you are at the game …scream out my brutha e3,,,,i bet i will hear you

  64. Agree, LW. I know the “Bolts” score a lot but I think a good, fast defense like ours can really counter their game nicely.

  65. Doodie Machetto on

The Rangers need to get someone other than Pyatt on Gaborik’s line. I get that they are spreading out their offense, but Pyatt cannot hack it there. Would it be the worst thing in the world for one of The Kreider or Callahan to play there and have Pyatt play with Miller and the winger that doesn’t move up to Gaborik’s line?

  66. The Rangers were the faster, more skilled team tonight…Wow

Very different type of win then last year…

  67. Glad that game ended just in time for my wife to put on The Grammies and let me see Sting prostituting himself. Weak.

  68. I’m good with those 3 stars (I can’t give it to a D after that 1st period), but I’d flip Hags and Henrik.

  69. henrik saved them early then they dominated…

the rangers are faster then last year all over the lineup….

asham stinks but he skates a heck of a lot better then john scott or rupp who use to be fast….

  70. Czechthemout!!! on

Total domination from start to finish. Scored five, could have scored ten tonight.

Very important part of this and the last game and for the rest of the season. They can roll 4 lines easily for the first time in a long time.

  71. I totally knew that there would be people on here thinking they should save goals for Boston. Of course. Because that’s how it works…

  72. Yea. It sucks, @CCCP@ But that emotion you’re feeling is called @jealousy@ not hate. Just part of growing up.

  73. Carp: I’ve already gone on record in here (twice) that Richards will be the Rangers 2nd buyout, but the summer of 14. That doesn’t take away from what he’s making what he’s making vs Callahan right now.

That deal was signed via a different CBA.

  74. Lots of positives here…including the King being the King in the first on all those odd-man rushes.

  75. Olga Folkyerself on

Sure is weird here tonight. No one should be sent down, no one to be traded, the whole team gets a star, everybody earned their millions, Sam and Joe called a great game, Sather is a genius again, Torts is smiling…

  76. ilb, re: tertiary – Cosell – “Staubach is uncanny. He looks for his primary receiver, then his secondary receiver, and if they’re covered, he finds a tertiary receiver.”

Don Meredith: “I played quarterback almost ten years in this league and I never heard of that third guy, Howard.”

  77. they will get 3 more decent years out of richards…

man can people go a game without whining?

they win the cup people would be talking about who to sit and trade 10 minutes after the game is over…

  78. Czechthemout!!! on

They keep harping on the first ten minutes of the game. Who cares! The Rangers could have and should have scored more than the two goals they scored in the first. Garon played great. We should have scored at least two more.

  79. The more I suffer Bill Pidto, the more he reminds me of a childhood pediatrician. Which is really disturbing.

  80. Ok, Stuart, we’ll all just shut up and go to bed. You and Jim and Cally from last night share the same cubicle? 3C – would you pass me the jellybeans? Thanx.

  81. E3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my freinds on

My ray Lewis just murdered someone app just texted me – I knew a day couldnt go by…..

  82. Fat Guy kicking it old school from Farmers Boulevard on

I came here tonight to rock
    These bells will never stop
    Rock the Bells

  83. good win – got pretty jazzed when Asham scored

the most complete game of the season if you omit about half of it

thought this was the best Lundqvist has probably been the whole season and the same goes for Hagelin who was driving hard to the net all night and looked very involved. thought the young guys looked good again. still not sure Richards is dressing for these games and I thought Del Zotto was terrible.

  84. I like Asham. He goes about his business with a stoic and quiet dignity. Matter of fact, he reminds me of the Maitre’ d’ at a fine Tennis, Golf, and Shore Club that I once belonged to.
