  1. UK Ranger – The average TOI would be under 15 for forwards because of all the PK time with only two forwards (or one), and especially when the Rangers are not using four forwards on a power play unit.

  2. saying Callahan’s going to have an MRI on the shoulder…really hope it’s only a minor issue

  3. that’s funny but this team is in serious trouble if Callahan is gone for any significant length of time

  4. from the Rangers twitter: On Ryan Callahan hurting his shoulder, Torts: “when you lose a top guy, that shuffles your lineup..but our room is solid..no concerns there”

not a chance he believes that

  5. so your opinion is slot Taylor Pyatt on line 2 and Mike Rupp on line 3 and it’s smooth sailing right to the Cup

  6. lets see…… what I got out of this afternoons chat.

    1. Gilroy has become bobby orr
    2. Boyle stinks because he doesn’t fight or score goals
    3. Could it be possible Kreider has a concussion
    4. where is miller, should be up playing with rangers
    5. Bring BACK zucarella

It was very entertaining to say the laest.

  7. Over/under on how many of those bulletpoint themes are repeated in a future April chat: 4.5

  8. a bit surprised by the lack of action taken against Jannik Hansen. who knew the guy had such clout within the league

  9. Cally gone…season over?…lol come on! Didn’t we loose Cally in the past and others pick up the slack? Not for a minute is the season over…
    Sheesh…alarmists!

  10. true, but there was more depth in the past. this roster is very under-manned. again, Taylor Pyatt would be on the second line and Mike Rupp would be on the third line. that’s….not good.

  11. Carp, please elaborate on the way that the night life effected players in the past, and why you don’t think that’s still an issue.

In my constant bitter mood whenever they’re in a bit of a down streak I always attribute it to them having to always deal with some Garden of Dreams thing or party or event.

    Thanks!

  12. LOVE this Tweet:

@AGrossRecord@ Ranger Rants: Kreider on his status, Gaborik says Cally’s shoulder injury not as bad as his

    *********************

Love that Gaborik’s opinion is that it isn’t as bad as his.

  13. Losing Callahan is the spark we need each season to get us in gear. It’s what is supposed to come from staged fights on faceoffs.

  14. JD gave a great interview about the Blue Jackets and their state _after_ Rick Nash. Including their position on players playing in the Olympics on Hockey Central @ Noon.

  15. Gaborik had shoulder surgery and was supposed to miss 6 months. Like, I appreciate his insight but missing even a third of that time will be a huge hit to this team.

  16. Doodie – You expect anthem singers to be under one minute? That is way too fast. Try 1:15 for something reasonable. I can’t believe the over/under on the Super Bowl anthem is over two minutes. That seems ridiculously long.

  17. I think there’s a better chance of seeing me start in goal tomorrow night for the Rangers (with Braun 00 on the back of my jersey) than ever seeing Sean Avery play for John Tortorella again.

  18. Doodie Machetto on

SP, you’re right. I’ll even go a little higher and give them 90 seconds. We do have a long (and terrible) anthem.

  19. have to laugh when people scorn the Rangers contacting a Rolston or Sykora when Mike Rupp and Taylor Pyatt are the best internal options

  20. Has anyone seen the oilers play this year? I got a chance to watch them the other night on center ice and they look really good and fun to watch. That team has like 3 lottery pick players and allot of young 1st round picks from past years. This team is going to make some noise the next 5 years.

  21. czechthemout!!! on

    Lloyd

Totally agree. Pyatt on line 2 and Rupp on libe three is a joke.

When healthy, play Kreider on line Two and JT Miller on line three.

Rupp has no busness anywhere near the third line.

  22. Exactly, Lloyd. We already have enough ex-Devils on our squad.

Rolston is not an answer. He’s another person that could play 4th line minutes and be ineffective on the PP. Further, by getting Rolston on the squad you force guys like Rupp and Pyatt to move up to make space for him to waddle around at the blue line and take lazy slappers.

  23. Agreed Tommy. The Oilers are fun. I watched them beat the Caps last night (after our game) and it was pretty fun to watch. Definitely a growing team there. Even Craig Anderson looked OK.

  24. tommy:

yeah I have. it’s amazing when you see the young guys that team has compiled in the last bunch of years. they’ve got a nice mix of veterans surrounded by youth with scary talent. and they’re only going to get better. that they’re scoring on the PP at a 36% clip is pretty impressive, too.

  25. Fat Guy Duberstein on

I know he’d be yet another left handed shot, but is anyone reaching out to Doug Sulliman’s agent?

  26. Brian Rolston is a better 3rd line option than Mike Rupp. Hate to burst that bubble for you but Rolston will give you some offense at least.

  27. Unfortunately, you will never see the rangers like that because the rangers have the resources to always be in the middle of the pack. I don’t think the rangers have ever gotting a lottery pick.

  28. Yea. I can’t wait for Rolston to net 4 goals in 40 games. That is of course, if he’s in the shape he was in last season while playing for 3 different teams. What’s that make him in Avery speak? Sloppy 4ths?

  29. Rolston is essentially the same as signing *CABER*

Rupp generally, mostly sucks, Lloyd. I totally agree with you there. He can’t even fight anymore. I am not a big believer in Mike Rupp by any means and would replace him with Marek Hrivik in a second if he wasn’t concussed.

I am just saying that I don’t think Rolston fills any needs that this team has. I think The Doctor said it in the CHARP earlier, it’s more exciting when a player has potential than when we know their limit. Thus, I like the idea of some young guy over Rolston.

  30. again this is all hypothetical, but I don’t really like the idea of bringing up a 19-year old and sticking him in this team with this coach where he has to produce. When Kreider came up last year, he delivered but he didn’t have to. You put a guy like Miller on this team with minimal depth and its lost its captain if Miller doesn’t deliver, you run the risk of tarnishing him unnecessarily. if they had other guys at the AHL level that were a bit more seasoned and could step in to play 15 minutes a night, I’d be all for it – just not seeing anyone down there who can do that. would rather leave the young guy alone and look elsewhere.

  31. I say that because I am totally agreeing with you on keeping JT Miller in the AHL. He’s not playing top 6 minutes up here so it doesn’t make sense. Focus on his development down there.

  32. Fat Guy Duberstein on

Doodie – That is wild. It’s obviously supposed to be Mess, so why don’t Ottawanians just fess up to what we already know?

  33. Doodie Machetto on

They aren’t bringing up anybody. They are going to roll with what they have and just adjust the lines.

  34. adjusting these lines will not work beyond a few games unless Kreider starts playing extremely well. they just don’t have the pieces.

  35. From what Tort was saying today I suspect they might actually try Gilroy at wing and see how that goes. The Kreider cannot play yet. Thus we are stuck with this:

    Nash-Richards-Gaborik
    Hagelin-Stepan-Pyatt
    Ferrari-Boyle-Rupp
    Bickel/Gilroy-Halpern-Asham

  36. when is the dreaded 8-12 weeks news coming on cally. this cant be good.

    i would take sykora back

  37. @wyshynski@ Creepy former Tampa Bay player Michael McBain sentenced to 4-16 in prison for molesting a girl bit.ly/WRjNhO

    McBain!

  38. that Mashinter dude looks to be playing pretty well for the Whale but he’s a career minor leaguer with 13 total NHL games (0 points) on his resume. the size is good and he’s had decent numbers in the OHL and AHL so who knows

  39. I don’t want to ruin Thomas or Miller. Hrivik is injured. Newbury and Segal have already shown what they have. We got nuttin!

We could try Kyle Jean or maybe make that humaingous big goalie with the complicated name play Forward?

  40. I’ve mentioned that several times on this blog about trying Gilroy on wing. Gilroy has some offensive talent and he started out as a winger. I am all for trying Gilroy on wing than playing him on defence.

@AGrossRecord@ Probably best news possible for #NYR on Ryan Callahan: Shoulder subluxation, out 10 days to 2 weeks.

  44. In that time period we have games against Pitt, Tampa, NJ, NYI, Tampa, and Boston. We should have enough here to have people step up and beat the heart of this team in his absence.

  45. I have actually had what happened to Cally happen to me, in the exact same way. Not on the ice though. Sometimes I can feel my shoulder kind of pop out a bit and it is very painful and I have to pop it back in by kind of banging it into the wall. Either way, this is great news. He needs to give it the 10-14 days though, because once this happens, it can happen again much easier.

  46. Lucky Callahan! And us too….

Btw, that means that it was due to his arm being twisted. The other causes could be severe blow to the shoulder, fall, which clearly wasn’t the case. He went down and was already in pain. I think 10 days- 2 weeks is a bit optimistic, but still….Could’ve been much worse.
