The 2012, er, I mean, the 2013 schedule comes out today

The boys are off skates today, resting up for physicals and their brutal first day of camp tomorrow.

But today the schedule is finally announced. We know — or we’re pretty sure we know — that the Rangers’ 48-game season begins Jan. 19 in Boston and that the home opener is the next night against Pittsburgh. And that might have changed.

We’ve also heard that ya boys are going to play the Penguins and Flyers five times each (somebody alert the Empire State Building), and the Devils and Islanders just four times each, and that the trade deadline will be April 3.

We’ll see.

In case I am not right on top of this schedule release, keep an eye on the twitter widget ———->

Or keep checking the Rangers team site, or We will have the entire schedule here during the day … or at least a link to it.

  1. Uh oh, LW. ……

Helene Elliott tweets: @helenenothelen@: again, likely to know more on Willie Mitchell once lockout officially lifted. then again, it might just become a ‘lower-body injury.’

@helenenothelen@: update to the update on Kings D Willie Mitchell is ‘impingement’ in knee, timetable unclear.

  2. CCCP, ty prekhuel, your sense of hockey is onerous, at best… And the that sense of humour, OMG.

  3. Matty"DepthisWhatisNeeded!!!"Boy on

Saturday morning, early. Just put my wringing fist to my eyes. Waking up.

Saturday…Saturday….is this THE day THE ONLY GAME starts? Is that TODAY???
    Ugh…another week? Geezzz……….

  4. See twee that Sather offers DZ $2.4m…DZ asking for $3m. Sounds like the lockout all over again. They both need to get this done, and Sather’s stubbornness will come back to tie him in the rear end.

  5. Ooops…See twee that Sather offers DZ $2.4m for 2 yrs…DZ asking for $3m. Sounds like the lockout all over again. They both need to get this done, and Sather’s stubbornness will come back to bite him in the rear end

  6. Kenny Albert Rules! on

Ditto that LW3H. MDZ is still 22 and i think Sather’s offer is fair enough. What do you guys think? too high or low?

  7. Good morning, boneheads!

MDZ is going to become arbitration eligible after this season..So 2 years at $2.75M or thereabout sounds fair.

  8. Pre-lockout, I would’ve guessed at $3m per, or slightly higher. (John Carlson isn’t a ridiculous comparable – more shutdown responsibility, less offense – he signed for $4m per over six years.)

Now, I presume he’ll get squeezed a little more. Also Subban and Kulikov are other RFA D-men coming off entry level deals. First to sign might set a benchmark.

  9. Cross Check Charlie on

Just wondering if the NHL will refer to this half season as the 2012-13 season or just 2013.

Is Wade Redden that bad that he can’t be a 7th defenseman on this team or is it just that they don’t want to risk injury so that he can be bought out over the summer?

One week until NHL hockey returns. Looking forward to watching games, but I’m still not giving them any of my money for at least 2 years.

  10. I’m with you Cross Check. The NHL will get naught a penny from me (aside from ad revenue from my watching the games) until Mr. Bettman is put to the sword. Or just fired or resigns or whatever.

  11. My fiancée just said that Rick Nash “better step it up right away or he’s forever branded as a ‘bush-league clown'” …

And this is why I proposed.

  12. If MDZ goes bye bye in some way the haters will rue the day mark my words. The kid has balls and skill does need to grow up though. Deal done Sunday evening 2.65 two years all good.

  13. Girardi-McD

If they decide to use Bickel on opening faceoff, Eminger replaces him….

  14. Way to lock it up, Miami. A woman that loves hockey is a woman to keep. My wife actually wanted to make up line combos last night. She didn’t know all the new players but she was pretty on point. Love is in the air…

  15. ESPN is really giving a lot of credence to what these players were able to accomplish in the KHL and other Euro-Pansy-Leagues during the lockout. They are aware of differences in skill level, ice size and rules, right?

  16. It’s taking longer than expected to sign the Memorandum of Understanding, that’s why the lockout is still official and they aren’t releasing the schedule. Just a matter of time….You think mr. Bettman tried to pull a fast one on players again?

  17. Bettman: “So, we just need you, as the representative of the NHLPA, to sign the Memorandum of Understanding, and we’re all set.”

    Carcillo: “Me don’t understand.”

  18. IBleedRangersBlue on

I think its soo funny how many problems the islanders have just getting guys to play on their team..1st Nabokov and now Visnovsky…players from now on should just sign no trade(to islanders) clause in their contracts…you can trade me anywhere but LI

  19. Rangers camp roster: Nash, Richards, Gaborik, Stepan, Callahan, Hagelin, Kreider, Boyle, Pyatt, Asham, Rupp, Halpern; Girardi, McDonagh, Staal, Stralman, Bickel, Eminger, Lundqvist and Biron … Gilroy on minor league contract; Del Zotto unsigned so far.

  20. cccp

Wow what a great idea………..Redden to Isles for Streit…or if that doesn’t work then, how about signing Doane. and then trade him to Isles for Streit?

  21. MDZ won me over last year too. He played with a nasty snarl. It was something that I didn’t think he had in him. He is so young! I think he will get better and show us more this year.

  22. What’s up with Dubi’s hair in that picture. Looks like Dubi parted his hair so much he left a half inch divot to his scalp.

  23. also I think Torts and Brad Richards and Brian Boyle will be the best thing to have happened to Del Zotto’s career.

  24. I know it’s been a while and I am sure a good majority of you are happy about that. But with a different job and hours it was hard to post as much as I would have liked. But anyway, enough about me.

I had to post today because it’s easier to vent on here than in 140 characters on twitter.

Here’s my very fast take on the Lockout. I blame the owners 100%. This was their lockout, especially Jacobs, Leopold and Edwards. Gary Bettman, as usual, has no backbone and no respect for the actual game of hockey. If he did all 30 owners would have been involved not the hardest of hardliners.

As for Fehr, he was doing his job, and quite well I might add. I don’t blame him or players at all for protecting themselves when THEY are the product. They suffer the injuries etc.

Now to today which is why I am really angered. You finally settle Sunday morning. BOG votes Wed. and Gary apologizes. Great! Let’s move on.

BUT NEVER IN GARY’S NHL! Today is the biggest disgrace of the entire Lockout. You tell the fans they have a deal. Tickets go out, Players run “fake” practices. And now you can’t get the schedule out because of the haggling over this memo.

Here’s the message to the NHL Fans today. “We are not SORRY! You do not and never will matter to us. It’s just a business for us owners.” The sad part is you search twitter under NHL or MOU you see casual fans already tweeting writers that could the deal still fall apart? Meaning the NHL HAS NOT convinced it’s fans it’s house is in order. Way to kill the buzz of a new season!

  25. Carp

Today should have been an NHL Network hockey celebration prior to NFL playoffs. NHL schedule release at 11 AM. Burke presser at 12 PM. Then, commentary and previews from writers, GM’s, Fans etc on Network including comments on how teams would give back to fans. Maybe even Gary and Owners appearing and sincerely talking to fans about what they will do to make it up to them. Instead NHL Network repeats same crap they’ve been showing for 6 months. Way to build back the sport.

  26. Awww! Look at all the hockey players listening to the important things Dubi has to say! I’m sure he contributed lots of really insightful and creative thoughts to this process. My little genius!

    Mazel tov, Josh, 26!

  27. Carp, you have to see the baby. When are you gonna see the baby? I’m sure she’s breathtaking.

  28. iWicky "Rupp Yours!!!" on

    Cccp and Sally
I’m already in that league, I just need one more in mine before its draft tomorrow and was trying to figure out who joined yours…didn’t want to double dip or anything

  29. IBleedRangersBlue on

What i dont understand (and makes me a little nervous) is how the player vote on the ratification NEVER even leaked…we know the owners ratified it…even if there waiting on the MOU why didnt they announce the players vote

    am i just being paranoid?

  30. No schedule yet? Like Radiohead says in their song “Separator”: if you think this is over, you’re wrong.

  31. IBleed – The players wouldn’t have been practicing and flying back to their NHL cities if they didn’t think they were going to vote yes. But your paranoia is exactly why today has been the MOST embarrassing day of the entire process. Gary should not be sorry, because he’s not, and instead learn to be more Honest with fans. Why can’t the schedules go out and the legalese bantering go on during this week of training camp unless there is a chance of the deal falling through!

  32. LOL Asham is hilarious. Getting lots of nasty tweets from Flyers, Pens, and Bruins fans and he keeps replying to them. Then one Rangers fan said something about him being embarrassing and a piece of carcillo, Asham replied saying you’re wearing a Jets jersey that says it all. I have a feeling im going to like him.

…MOU must still be completed by NHL and NHLPA

TORONTO (January 12, 2013) – The members of the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) have voted to ratify the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the NHLPA and the National Hockey League (NHL).

While the players’ vote ratifies the new CBA with the NHL owners, a written Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) consistent with what the players voted on, must be completed before the Agreement becomes final. The NHLPA and the NHL continue their work to finalize the MOU.

  34. >> Is that one of those interweb sites?

Didn’t Carp say something to the effect that fans would be stupid to visit that site after the lockout?
