Happy New Year!!!!!!

Hope you, we, all have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2013 … with hockey.

I think the last part is a given, but the first parts are much more important.

Also want to take this opportunity to thank all of youse for being here all the time, for making this place what it is (which is, um, indescribable).

And once we get hockey back — opening night Jan. 19 or 20 — here’s hoping that a lot of our regulars who have understandably been away during this idiotic lockout will come back in droves. I will count on you all to spread the gospel and make the traffic go crazy again so that they will send me to a lot of games and let me spend a lot of time doing this instead of my “other” job.

Enough of that. Enjoy, have fun, be safe.

Me? I’m going to kick off the new year with Ralph and Alice and Ed and Trixie. Happy yuletide!

  1. Happy New Year! Even if we don’t get a season, there’ll still be hockey in 2013….. in October! Lol. Hear’s to having hockey sooner though!

  2. ThisYearsModel on

Happy New Year Carp, and all the posters. Been visiting once a day, but so irritated about the stupid lockout have not been posting. When hockey is back, so will all the boneheads be.

  3. Happy New Year to all the Boneheads!

Screw the NHL. Though, for what it’s worth, I’m spending this year in India. I had been really worried about how to get my Rangers fix while overseas, turns out the problem has been nicely solved by the league — I’m substituting the Indian cricket team for the Rangers for this year! Let’s Go India!

  4. Good morning all! I guess all you lucky heads are still asleep while poor me has to go to work. I hope your hangovers are few and LGR!!!

  5. Happy new year kids! Carp- It’s awesome that you keep this place what it is even in the face of a lockout. My absence is more bc of life stuff rather than lockout stuff. But good things for once.

    How’s Tony doing?

  6. Happy New Year! Here every day but not posting…Nothing to talk about. Get it done guys!!

  7. India. Now there’s the place to be on New Years day……especially the
Black Hole of Calcutta. Not much hockey, but lots of misery.

  8. Happy new year all. Hopefully now that the wreck is near dropping off the cliff into sports oblivion the owners will realise that with a 50/50 split and a bit of self control we should have been watching the winter classic today.

  9. Happy New Year to Carp, who we have affectionately come to know as Ol’ Muck an’ Mire.

Happy New Year, Carpy!! And all the posters/boneheads!!!!

May it be a happy, healthy, successful one for you all.

We have a great place to talk the only sport right here and it amazes me the traffic it has had during the down lockout times. Carpy, remember those of us that have been here through thick and thin when you and your blog site move on, as this season takes off, to ‘hockey blog all star fame’!!!!!!!!

    And, WHERE IS EDDIE???????

  11. Happy New Year carp & my fellow boneheads,Honeymooners & Odd Couple marathon for me today.Oh yea college football also.LETS GO RANGERS!

  12. “We just gotta face it…Just have to cut down, cut out this high living…We’ll have to cut out a few luxuries.”

  13. “Alice, you don’t know how to handle money.”
“Of course I don’t. I never had any practice.”

“Will you shut up, I don’t want my salary to leak out.”
    “Your salary couldn’t drip out.”

  14. Happy new year all. My birthday happens to be Jan 19th. What I want is opening night at the garden.

  15. IBleedRangersBlue on

    Happy new year everyone!!

I’m in no way expecting a deal today….but wouldn’t it be true NHLian style to announce a deal today to purposly take heat off the fact that theres no winter classic today?

  16. Happy New Year gang!!! I hope 2013 is just a good if not better than 2012 was for you!!

  17. Jlone2Bubblehead on

    Happy New Year!!!
Will Henrik keep his streak of 30 win seasons alive? I say sadly no.

  18. IBleedRangersBlue on

Carp just saw your retweet….didnt that rumor get squashed yesterday…i thought we were past this rumor already

Can also confirm that PA has not requested any changes to HRR.

  20. NHL ,What me worry ! Ralph E Boy and Oscar on all morning . Life is good. Happy 365 to all.

  21. We MUST win this opening game, whenever it comes, in order to let the rest of the league know we’re serious. Matter of fact, we need to blow someone out! If we don’t it will be a long, uphill climb. Hit hard before the fatigue factor sets in.

  22. did they meet at noon? or at 1pm? or was it at 4pm? maybe it was 5pm? i think it was 6:30pm? or 7pm?

  23. I love you all! If this “season” actually happens, and we don’t win our first game, then “season” over…fire everybody….Good to see old friends back…and where is the Odd Couple marathon!!!!!

My brother and I spent a whole weekend telling each other…aristophanes!

Given the status of negotiations, the players had better start working out in high gear. It’s-a-coming!

For me, I am working out my right arm bending motion. Elbow on table, counter, or bar. One. Two. One. Two.

Next will put the beer mug in hand with water. One. Two. One. Two.

Want to be ready for the real thing.

  25. Good morning, boneheads!

Matty, don’t overdo it, you might be starting too early. It looks like they still have large ground to cover.

  26. Why don’t we just let everybody in the playoffs? Why not do away with the regular season and just have playoffs?

  27. morning heads. got up at 4am before work to watch jt miller and the usa. by far his best game of the tournament.

4 more playoff teams would mean 12 of 15 making it in each conf. no thanks

  28. happy new year. hearing that ed snyder is threatening to
veto any agreement which does not have the rangers play the
first 3 weeks on the road like they would have if the season
    started on time

  29. Are we being too literal?
No you fool, we’re following orders. We were told to comb the desert so we’re combing it.

    Just kidding…7 6 5 4 3 2 1…have A nice day(season canceled)

  32. Hey, can anybody give an update on Michael Sauer ? Has he dropped off the face of the earth ? Will he be back ?

  33. IBleedRangersBlue on

    1 2 3 4 5?
That’s the combination bettman has on his breafcase!

  34. Today marks the first anniversary of the Empire State Building being lit up in tribute to Mr Snider and of Sergei Bobrovsky being lit up by Mike Rupp in tribute to Mr Snider’s goaltending skills.

  35. & Rupp doing the Jagr salute and Boyle telling Giroux and Hartnell to shut up. Good times. … oh, and Torts questioning the integrity of the game and whether they called the penalty shot for NBC and getting rung up by the Lockout Commissioner.

  36. “Maybe he’s celebrating it like that, I don’t know. He doesn’t score many goals”

  37. Isn’t in incredible, with all the concussion history the Rangers have had, that guys like Hagelin and others still have the chinstrap dangling so far away from their chins? Guess it looks cooler.

  38. Poor Torts. You almost had it right. They didnt call a penalty shot for NBC ratings, they did it to screw the Rangers with a national audience.

  39. Ralph: “Thanks for the gift, Norton. I know it came from the heart.”

Norton: “No it didn’t. It came from the Fat Man’s Shop.”

  40. i just wanted to jump in and say how much i’ve enjoyed carp’s dipietro tweets… i can’t ever get enough of the dipietro jokes

  41. Actually agreeing with Brooksie for once:

@NYP_Brooksie@ NBA cap remained same 1st 2 yrs after lockout. NFL cap declined 6.25% Yr 1. NHL insisting on 14.53%. League loves to punish those who spend.

  42. Who likes to spend? Dolan and the Rangers. Who doesn’t like to spend? Jacobs and the Bruins.

Makes perfect sense, my bff Manny.

  43. The Rangers will go from cap flexibility under the old CBA to being cap strangled with the new CBA. I’d rather see the NHLPA take a stand and force a canceled season than see our Rangers once again stuck behind the 8 ball.

  44. There just has to be a better way to roll a cap back. Why not incremental adjustments? Why not just calm down and think it through without destroying what took teams years to build and get to. The genius of the Nash trade was that it left us enough room to re-sign a lot of our younger players in the coming seasons. That’s all been thrown down the tubes.

  45. What about our junior teams chances tomorrow against the Canadians? Is anyone getting up to watch that at 4am? Perhaps Bettiman and fear should watch it as well? Remind them of the reason the game is played?

  46. iWicky "Rupp Yours!!!" on

Hey bro, busy as hell (sorry carp). Since about September I’ve been doing a couple of project with some other former military operators and its been keeping me busy, well that and work and the wicksters.

Fwiw, I really miss hockey and this place and all you guys (and girls).

Sorry it took me so long to reply to you

  47. Yes Carp, Sauer looks very cool sitting in a dark room with headaches and a dangling jockstra…er…I mean chinstrap.

  48. 4generations 4 cups on

we’re cuttin it close but at this point all i want is hockey, the cup comes second :D

  49. Just coincidental or maybe a good sign that players are starting to come back to the local area (Lundqvist, Stepan, etc). Getting ready for some action or just tired of vacationing?

  50. When a Ranger is quoted anonymously as saying that ‘Torts treats us like dogs,’ it’s a compliment.

  51. IBleedRangersBlue on

I know technically Jan 11th is the “deadline” but im nervous about tonight! i wish i could be more optimistic but i have a feeling Betmans going to test Fehr on threat

  52. You heard it here first. Don’t make eric come back and be all, “I told you so.” Just believe him.

  53. Carp – once again, I beg you to close down Chad’s LoHud Yankees blog. Those whack jobs are over there arguing about their arguments. E.They each actually think their opinions matter, as if their blog is the real world. We puck heads know this is the only real world blog. We should be filmed for MTV in front of a live studio audience
