As expected. This really doesn’t mean much, because they weren’t going to start up by then anyway, and even if they do, the old schedule will need a complete overhaul for the 48 or 50-something games they would play.
From the NHL:
NHL ANNOUNCES CANCELLATION OF 2012-13 REGULAR-SEASON SCHEDULE THROUGH DECEMBER 30
NEW YORK (December 10, 2012)—The National Hockey League announced
today the cancellation of the 2012-13 regular-season schedule through
December 30. The cancellations are necessary due to the absence of a new
Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players’ Association and
the NHL.
A total of 526 regular-season games—42.8 percent of the season—were
scheduled for October 11 through December 30.

the NHL is so lucky to have Gary Bettman.
“freakin’ idiots”
Just discovered a new Twitter that you Seinfeld fans (especially you, Carp) would enjoy:
https://twitter.com/seinfeldtoday
It’s basically tweets that sum up what Seinfeld episodes would be about if they came out today.
An example:
“Kramer starts selling large sodas on the black market. Jerry’s “Tonight Show” set is on Taxi TV and he becomes “Taxi Famous.””
Bania steals jokes from Jerry’s tweets. George lies on @foursquare to avoid his parents. Kramer leads the less popular #Kony2013 campaign.
Elaine pretends to live in Brooklyn to date a cute, younger guy. Kramer becomes addicted to 5 Hour Energy. George’s parents get Skype.
Dooooodie!!!
guess a show about nothing would have infinite posibilities.
possibilities
Jerry finds it hard to believe that he can’t even give away field level seats at Citifield unless he throws in a limo ride both ways and a late dinner at Peter Luger’s.
George gets a job at NHL HQ on Sept. 15, 2012. Is laid off Sept. 16, 2012 due to lockout.
Bizzaro World II: Yankees are on a budget.
The Drake trades in his big-screen TV for a 3D plasma HD tablet.
Kramer invents a car with a periscope app for driving in traffic.
Elaine accidentally texts out a racy photo of herself to everybody in her address book.
The soup Nazi starts serving prime rib sandwiches outside the Garden
Seattle trades Jay Buhner back to the Yankees.
George pretends to be the architect who designed the Freedom Tower. Didn’t take him very long either.
Does this hurt the league’s share of media revenue? I quote CARP quoting the NY Times:
“the NHL will get 100 percent of its sponsorship money if it plays 62 games, and just 68 percent if it plays 56 games, and 61 percent if it plays 50 games. So perhaps the owners/NHL are under more pressure to get this thing done than are the players.”
Can they even play 62 games?
YES! more games down the crapper! LONG LIVE THE NHL!
so? what in holy hell is going on?
Johnny, I thought engineers did that.
Manny, 62 is out the window now. Probably 56 too.
What no statement from Daly complaining about how the league/owners are losing X amount of dollars from cancelling so many games due to their own lockout? Tsk, tsk, NHL PR is slipping… or laid off already.
why put limit on how many games they can play? just keep playing until September!
just furloughed, Mickey.
Man, of all the Lockout Seasons, this one is THE BEST!
Can they even collect unemployment then, Carp? If not, then the league is full of cheap asshats… oh wait, we knew that already.
Bettman as the BurgerMeister MeisterBurger? Y/N?
don’t know how unemployment works for example for NHL employees who’ve had their work weeks cut to four days, thus are getting 80 percent pay.
It was mostly rhetorical, but thanks :) Ugh, this whole thing sucks for them and other team/arena workers the most. If I worked for a team and was laid off like some of them, I’d look into suing the league..
knock knock…
who’s there?
about…
about who (or whom?)?
about this stupid lockout!
freakin’ idiots! ;)
fun times.
Rick Nash! It’s a power play goal! Number 40 on the season for Nash!
ESPN SC NHL – League and players’ association scheduled to resume labor talks Wednesday, Pierre LeBrun reports
George signs as winger on Ranger Scab Team.
Knock, knock, who is there
Gary Bettman, Donald Fehr:
they’ve cancelled Christmas for all of of youse,
so go to church and crowd them pews.
Good morning, boneheads!
So they are meeting tomorrow...
TODAY. TOMORROW.Manny, no rush.
Can somebody please find “5yr Contract Hill” so we can all chip in for a taxi to take Bettman and Daly there to die?
Good morning all! Doodie, on another dreary day that link totally cheered me up! Excellent posts by you guys, too! Yet even today, the pretzels would still make you thirsty. But maybe there would be a way to save the fish.
Talks set for tomm Wednesday. ....blah. Blah blah
The soup Nazi becomes the new NHL commish …...new NHL slogan ” no hockey for you !!”
Nash:Groin, McMonster:Banged up, Haglin:shoulder and now DZ:back…our guys are dropping like flies in Europe! Bring them home!
this is officially the 1st time i heard news that there was meetings between the NHL and the NHLPA and WASNT excited to hear the news
interesting viewpoint:

Good morning, Sally!
More players flying in – Christmas preparations or nearing the end of this bush-league bull-carcillo?
lets say there was a 48 game season….all play inside the conference…how would that even break down evenly…
if you play the 10 teams(outside your divison) three times thats 30 games leaving 18 for divisional games but 18/4 teams in the division breaks down to 4.5 so thats not even
if you play 10 teams(outside your division) twice thats 20 games..leaves 28 for divisional games, 28/4 teams in the division is 7 interdivision games? thats alot of interdivisional games
even a 50 game season is wierd because you can do 30 games vs the rest of the conference and then 20 games with the 4 divisional teams make 5 games vs the division but then you run into the issue of 2 home games 3 away games…sooo…ideas??...
It won’t be balanced, IBleed.
Apparently there is some sort of schedule break in Europe, hence the players returning, UK.
i guess a balanced schedule is the least of our problems at this point
Winterpånsybreak?
Good afternoon, Carp!
Mediation rejoining nhl negotiations…
Good ? Bad? Or who the Byfuglien cares anymore?
no hockey
I feel like Buttman would be so spiteful and so vindictive that even if they were actually “close” to a deal he would purposly NOT let a deal go through just because he said “were not that close” so later he could say “SEE TOLD YA SOO NANANA”
Are we back to cautious optimism?
Sally, no optimism...yet.
In fact, we are back to antiemetics at the moment….
Speaking of optimism. I suspect the little one will get engaged before you see her.
Cock-eyed optimism.

Hahaha good one!
Billy Mumphrey … unbridled enthusiasm.
Who is my baby niece getting engaged to? I need to do some vetting on the boy, ill see if he checks out.
Bizarro world: Welcome to the Yankees, Kevin Youkilis! Yoooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuk!
Lose the exclamation points.
Good evening all!
Tony from AZ (or Anthony) says hello to all and that he really misses hockey!
ilb, I had to look up antiemetics …. is my baby OK? or is that for you and the whole NHL freaking idiot show?
Bettman and Fehr….if only you had taken your shoes off. (last night, a classic) Maybe we need J. Peterman in the talks….
harnell it….a fake wicky….
no sports fan is more full of crap than a Yankee fan. Boggs, Damon, Clemens, and now Youkilis all welcomed with open arms. bunch of phonies.
I only talk hockey or j(g)ibberish…..oy vey….this lockout is making me thirsty and killing the fish.
Youk is now off my wish-death-upon list! Now he’ll have a reason to whine over every strike call! Hahaha
... and bull dog, Yankees fans are losers (like Rangers fans) who wont welcome him. I welcome him because it’ll be nice to see professional plate appearances, and he’s a versatile guy that can play both corner infield positions and the outfield.
another passed his prime old fart signed by the Yankees…
Interesting article in NY Times tonight about business dysfunction of NHL…
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/12/sports/hockey/dysfunctional-business-model-puts-nhl-in-peril-experts-say.html?ref=sports
put a fork in it the season is over.. buttman is a friggin moron. the ny times article is no different then my posts for months.
nashville, phx., nj, and others cannot afford to be in the league nor should they be in the league until buttman stops catering to those paupers the league will be in quicksand. move the teams or contract…
nj to kc, nashville to canada, phx, to seattle… how friggin complicated is that..
Carp – must be the Swedes, Germans and Swiss then – the English Elite League plays non-stop through till March.
Tostitos update – after 19pts and 69 pim in 17g for Sheffield Steelers he’s back home for Christmas and if the lockout doesn’t end he will be playing elsewhere in Europe come January.
wildplaces – that is an outstanding article and clearly demonstrates why Bettman is bad for the NHL – insistence on franchises with low local revenues and ticket sales which make up the lions share of their revenue, lack of revenue sharing with the big teams, inferior TV deal, loss of nearly 10% of games during his tenure and complete and utter lack of labour peace thanks to his tactics.
new post, Manny.
Manny, new post, you lazy bonehead
