Not going to update you on the vacation so far … you don’t need to know the details of my golf swing, the cost of the new garage door springs, or that I still haven’t gotten my computer back from the geek, who’s had it since Saturday.
Before we get back to our roster of fine guest bloggers (and before I settle in to watch the PGA) I just want to update on some hockey news yesterday:
1) The players and owners met again, and this time they got heated over supplemental discipline … this may sound like an important issue, and maybe it is, but this isn’t a make-or-break on the CBA agenda. Suffice it to say, that will be hashed out once the main topic—$$$$$$—is completed. And suffice it to say that I expect that once owners have the money numbers they want, they’ll capitulate on the issues such as supplemental discipline, and therefor supplemental discipline will be even more of a joke than it was last year, if that’s possible.
2) Adam Rotter had an item yesterday that with the new renovations at MSG, there will, finally, be blue seats again, back where they belong. I imagine they won’t be the same price they were last time.
3) Blueshirt United had an interview with Marian Gaborik, who reported that his shoulder is doing well, that he’s rehabbing and working out.
4) Finally, our friend 4everanger, posted this in the comments yesterday. I thought it was interesting and could provide some chatter:

As for hating teams, I like the concept, but not the intent, which still reveals a certain immaturity in the certain clan members. Sorry for analyzing too much, the hockey stuff will come soon enough, once the League is whole again.

It’s nothing comparing to what the league wants them to give up financially in general. I can only imagine what it’s going to sound like after mr. Fehr presents his counter proposal.

When I was younger there would not have been a single fan who wouldn’t have had the islanders as most hated.

Since I’m not in the NYC area I really haven’t developed a real hate for the other two area teams. I’m 60 miles from the Hurricanes and play Dek Hockey in Raleigh and I still can’t get up more than apathy for the Hurricanes. The only time I go to one of their games is when the Rangers visit.

so if you read pat leonard article in the daily news he says there is a team out there that has a 4 year offer on the table for 28 mil (7 mil per season) and that the rangers are NOT that team. howver he does say thta besides Vancouver from where both doan and his wife are from british columbia he adds the preds and pens has two possible destinations. trotz has been tallking with doan during off season.
today you read on snyrangers blog that jamison may have the extra 20 mil now to buy the coyotes and if so doan prob stays now in phoenix
driving to work today i am listening to nhl home ice xm and the hosts interview mike morreale from nhl.com who mentions that he believes the rangers are the front runners for doan and they are willing to go the 4th year on doan contract should he leave phoenix.
one reporter says no 4th year for rangers and another does. so who really knows and with jamison perhaps having money to but coyotes he prob stays.

I recall during the Islanders glory years, when Dave Schultz (Hammer) of
Flyers did a brutal punch out of poor mild mannered Rolf of Rangers, and no one came to help him. But Schultz then went for Mike Bossy ( who swore that he’d never fight), and then Clark Gillies stepped in and took
Schultz apart…..;.and his rep was gone, as well as some of his facial charm. Not too many like Gillies around any more.
Remember when Sterling used to do the radio play-by-play for the Fishsticks? “Islander Goal! Islander Goal! Islander Goal!” for every freaking score all season long…. Doc must have learned screaming from him.
Schultz later admitted that Gillies marked the beginning of the end for him. They’re getting too big, he said. Gillies today would be considered mid-sized. How times have changed.
O I do recall Sterling and his “Islander Goal, and the repetition of it over and over, like he’d just wet his pants. He was really one of the sappiest callers in my memory == of any sport.

I went to school in St. Louis in the early ‘90’s so they became my 2nd favorite team. It’s easy to be a fan of a team in the Western Conference when you can root for them in every game other than the one or two against the Rangers during the regular season and a possible Stanley Cup match-up. Being in South Florida for over 5 years now has definitely elevated the Panthers likeability to almost Bluesian levels but that simple fact of being in the other conference will always keep the Blues a step ahead in my mind. As much as I love seeing the Ranger jersey-filled BankAtlantic center twice a year I really relish those every-other-year Blues games where I get to be one of maybe 5 people wearing a Blues jersey down here. lol
