Taking a day off … and more

I’m going to be taking a lot of days off the next few weeks leading up to the lockout, er, I mean, training camp.

That doesn’t mean I won’t be here or that we’re going to shut down. I will be here and we won’t shut down. I just may not have a lot to say some days.

And I am still looking for guest posts … We’ve got a few coming already, but if there’s anything you want to talk about, any topic you want to address, please email me at rcarpini@lohud.com. Thanks.

Guest post!!??? Naw I can’t do that , im NO guest…I live here!!!

  2. Ha! Look who is talking. Young lady decided she needed to exercise her lungs last night. Apparently, she has no idea how to read the clock yet. I’m giving her mom, and the dogs a little rest this morning.

Interesting how LB thinks the team is top heavy too. Another reason to believe he reads this blog :-)
But he is right, no matter what, this remains JT’s team.

  3. Good morning all! Thanks for the link ilb.

Obviously, the team’s changed roster will dictate a change in their identity, but will it be subtle or significant enough to require a long adjustment period? We may see a team that doesn’t gel until the second half or last quarter of the season… if there is one. So…

I fear we may soon only be talking about the NHL’s contract negotiations instead of line combos which will be a major bummer after a long offseason.

  4. Couple of observations:
Nobody cares about hockey in France and, strange enough, they never even heard about RR blog.
Horses *can* swim in an open water, but not in a small pool and it is hard to play polo in a process, however, you can still wear your Ralph Lauren pink polo shirt.
I was unpleasantly surprised by sudden (?) appearance of few ugly alien characters here, creating hostile environment – what is it – “the worth blog in internet” also become a jerks magnet or its lack of galaxy good taste policing?

  5. Good morning, Sally!

ilb, isn’t there a baby/sleep app for your iPhone?

Glad to see newbear is showing at least that there might be a sense of humor in there. Not so with guest bloggers stink and some others. With all the bland, no-fun blogs out there, I don’t know why people who don’t like to laugh decide to come here to the worst blog on the internets.

  6. E3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my freinds on

Odds that guest bloggers stink has a tiny pee pee: 4,000,000,000 to 1

  7. Ha! Just checked, *there is* an app for iPhone called “Baby Sleep”. Nothing comes up, however, if you try to search “Sense of Humor” :-)

Guest bloggers fellow is pretty benign, albeit annoying. There were some characters last night who just can’t avoid making personal shots and denigrating remarks…Hard to explain why would someone do that. Oh, well, guess who has to live with it?

  8. E3 (pimp's angel) stay thirsty my freinds on

Speaking of a tiny pee-pee and babies….any updates on Crosby?

  9. can’t believe Federer throwing the matching against Murray. Should make it a little less obvious though…

Oh and don’t sign Shane Doan…

  10. I think Murray is playing exceptionally well actually. Would be nice for him to win the Gold at home.

  11. But, yes Federer is far from his best. Not sure he is trying to lose though. He doesn’t have Olympic Gold on his resume. Except for doubles.

  12. When is training camp supposed to start? Isn’t it around the Sept. 15 date?

Newbear, cooscoos, guest bloggers….some people just like getting their kicks online by being a jerk because it’s the only way that they can get any attention.

  13. And there it is. Congrats, he finally won his first major event. And now he goes and hugs his family.

  14. Well, I guess it’s time to take my 2 week old daughter to my 85 year old parents’ place. Later.

  15. i think camp is supposed to begin around Sept. 21. CBA expires Sept. 15. Ergo, camp around Thanksgiving? Or New Year?

  16. The only bright side is that, maybe by then, Sauer and Gaborik will be healthy…

Hypothetically, I would just hate for the NYR to win it all in a shortened season…there would always be an asterisk next to that Cup.

It would be all worth it if there was a League contraction down to 24 or 26 or so teams…and the small markets would have to take their medicine and fold..Revenue needs to used by teams that work hard to generate it…We don’t need NHL hockey in Ohio…or Miami….or Arizona, for example…and we don’t need NYR and the Maple Leaves footing the bill….

I just hope the owners and the players recognize that there is a huge risk of alienating fans by going into any type of work stoppage. A solution needs to be in place to prevent this type of thing from happening. That’s the only way for true fans to respect this process…

The most important issue for the health of the game that needs to be solved is (headshots/diving/going into the board face first) the least important right now…

  17. I dont know what percentage can be attributed to each, but Murray was excellent today and Feds was awful. Feds got spunked. Wanted Feds to complete his resume, but kind of cool to see Murray win at home. Maybe this will propel him to win a slam.

  18. NYR, i kinda get what youre saying about an asterisk next to a Cup in a shortened season but there would still be regular playoffs where anything can happen and Rangers either way, shortened season or not, will most likely make the playoffs….

  19. Tiki, usually just two or three, though that includes at least a 2 month stay during the Summer months. This year it’s for nearly 3 months. Im in Europe quite a bit as well.

  20. I think if both the players and owners know what’s good for them they’ll avoid a lockout. Two work stoppages in such a short period of time could be the death knell for the sport. At least now that they are on NBCSN, the network has gotten notoriety from carrying the Olympcs. If the TV ratings go any lower, then what? Lifetime Channel?

  21. If you read Larry Brooks’ article today he called the Rangers “top heavy.”

Last season they had were short of top-end talent. They add one guy and now they’re top heavy? Sheesh, can’t satisfy the guy.

  22. How come nobody had a problem with the tweet by wyshynski: Standing ovation for Tatiana Kashirina’s record snatch.

How come you don’t see guys get a standing ovation for their package?

  23. Brooks thinks that 3 years is OK for Doan.

I would NOT do it….especially since it’s likely he’ll get more than $5m/per. I really don’t care if he ends up on the Penguins…

  24. Nyr, I agree contraction would be the best solution for the game but really nobody wants that. – not the owners of those teams and not the NHLPA would, if the league contracted by 4 teams, would see their pool of available jobs shrink by 85-100. No way do they want that happening.

  25. I’d 10-foot pole Doant for anything more than two years. I think in the second year he’d be eating up the minutes of a younger player. In the third, he’d be Drury. And if I’m not mistaken, they couldn’t get him off the books no matter what.

  26. Two years should be the limit for Doan. The amount per is irrelevant. And yes, unless they trade him, he is on the books even if he plays golf for the last 2 years of his deal.

  27. this coksakie virus is just brutal my son has. my wife son and i are stir crazy for not leaving the house in 5 days.

eating much more now but still getting soars on feet. saw stacey shapiro yesterday said his throat looks better but his feet still are popping out the blisters. socks on for most of the day?

  29. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo,Nash!!!"...says Greg L. on

2 week old daughter and an 85 year old granny , talk about a generation gap.

    Doan is no Drury…believe me!!

Doan has heart and is a talent. Snap him up Already!!! We are winning the cup not playing with the kids. This year we are reining eastern champs. We will pound teams even harder. We will win everything.

  30. Good evening all! I am full of lobster and upset over Federer…wtb? That was a serious v-tanks….anyhoo….enjoy the dog days Carp…..but glad you’re keep the shop open…..

eric, I’ve known many parents who went through the coxsackie mess, but it is treatable and you will get through it….and the baby too :)

  31. Greg….Maine in August….mmmmmmm….

  32. leetchhalloffame on

Enough with all the Doan talk already. Obviously he wants to stay in Phoenix with Donnie Maloney. Good luck.

  33. @ eric:
Stop your distastfully narcistic distractions on this blog about this quite common Coxsackie virus, it only elicits a pathetic quasi “personal” response from the “knowitall” ilb2001, one of my favorite tribers – he says “email eric”. What does that mean? Are all email addresses out there for any one to take and abuse? Clarification needed, Carp!!!
And please, don’t give a humanistic explanation, O.K? All the stuff is on the Web for “eric” to read if he does not have an insurance.

  34. @ crosscheckcharlie
attention is not an issue here, it is your inattention, perhaps, please, think about it.
