From MSG Network:
Four Consecutive Saturdays of the Best of the Rangers from the 2011-12 Season, Including Game 6 and Game 7 of the First Round of the Playoffs, at 8:00p.m.
New York, NY (July 12, 2012) – New York Rangers “Summer Ice” on MSG+ delivers the best of the Blueshirts from the 2011-12 season for four consecutive Saturdays, starting July 14 at 8:00 p.m.
For each two-hour installment of Rangers “Summer Ice,” MSG’s John Giannone and Joe Micheletti will break down the featured game and discuss its highlights from the High Line in New York City. Below is a preview of the four weeks of Rangers “Summer Ice.”
Saturday, July 14 – 8:00 p.m.
Flyers at Rangers (11/26/2011): The first meeting between the two teams who would eventually battle in the Winter Classic featured a center ice fight at the opening faceoff, 29 stops from Henrik Lundqvist, and the first NHL goal by rookie Carl Hagelin in the third period as the Rangers defeated their rivals 2-0 for their sixth straight win at home.
Joe Micheletti: “Here you had the Flyers, who were a totally different team from a year ago with all these rookies in the lineup…and right from the opening faceoff, fireworks started and the game gave us a real preview of what we were going to see the rest of the season between the two teams.”
Saturday, July 21 – 8:00 p.m.
Rangers at Bruins (1/21/12): The Rangers broke a seven-game scoreless power-play drought when Marion Gaborik scored his second goal of the game with only minutes left in OT to lift the Rangers over the defending Cup champs 3-2.
Joe Micheletti: “This was the game that really felt like a playoff game…and people were still wondering ‘are the Rangers this good?’ and, well, we’ll see in this game if they really are.”
Saturday, July 28 – 8:00 p.m.
Rangers at Senators: Game 6, Eastern Conference Quarterfinals (4/23/2012): Facing elimination for the first time in the 2012 Playoffs, the Rangers scored three goals in the second period, including the first career goal from rookie Chris Kreider, and held off the Senators for a 3-2 win to force a Game 7 at Madison Square Garden.
Joe Micheletti: “Everyone was still trying to get to know this kid, because they knew about the physical aspects of his game – six-foot-three, 235 pounds, can skate, great shot – but they needed this kid to get them going, to turn the game and the series around.”
Saturday, August 4 – 8:00 p.m.
Senators at Rangers: Game 7, Eastern Conference Quarterfinals (4/26/2012): In one of the most exciting games of the year, and the first Game 7 at Madison Square Garden since 1994, the Rangers got goals from defensemen Marc Staal and Dan Girardi, and a pressure-packed 26-save performance from Henrik Lundqvist, to finish off the series comeback and advance to the second round.
Joe Micheletti: “I don’t think home-ice advantage means all that much in the playoffs, until you get to a Game 7…I thought that more than anything the way that Henrik Lundqvist looked throughout this series, and looked and acted in Game 6, that there was just no way that he was going to allow another team to win a Game 7 at the Garden.”
In August, MSG+ will present the final four-week installment of “Summer Ice” featuring the best from the New Jersey Devils’ historic 2011-12 season.
