New rules for ’12-13 … pending season not being canceled

This shows you that the governors were in a hurry to get to the golf courses, casinos, etc.

From the NHL and NHL.com:

LAS VEGAS — The National Hockey League’s Board of Governors, at its annual June meeting, today approved changes to two rules. Rule 67 – Handling Puck implements a minor penalty for use of the gloved hand to “conceal” the puck or prevent an opponent from playing it. Rule 76 – Face-Off implements a minor penalty for a player taking a face-off using his hand to direct the puck.

Rule 67 – Handling Puck

67.2 Minor Penalty – Player

A player shall be permitted to catch the puck out of the air but must immediately place it or knock it down to the ice. If he catches it and skates with it, either to avoid a check or to gain a territorial advantage over his opponent, a minor penalty shall be assessed for “closing his hand on the puck.”

New, approved wording in italics:

Any time a player places his hand over the puck while it is on the ice in order to conceal it from or prevent an opponent from playing the puck, a minor penalty shall be assessed for “closing his hand on the puck.” When this is done in his own team’s goal crease area, a penalty shot shall be assessed (67.4) or a goal awarded (67.5).

A minor penalty shall be imposed on a player who, while play is in progress, picks up the puck off the ice with his hand.

Rule 76 – Face-off

76.4 Procedure – Centers:

Both players facing-off are prohibited from batting the puck with their hand in an attempt to win the face-off. Any attempt by either center to win the face-off by batting the puck with their hand shall result in a minor penalty. This penalty shall be announced as a “Minor Penalty for Delay of Game – Face-off Violation.” Once the face-off is deemed complete (and winner of the face-off is clear), hand passes shall be enforced as per Rule 79.

Where the hell is manny? Shouldn’t he be letting us know what is going on with the “NEW” posts?

    SLACKER!!!

  2. About time. Washington was using their hands to smother the puck and generally slow or stop play ALL series.

“*Always* to be called against the New York Rangers, but *never* to be called on any of their opponents.” Isn’t that what the wording really is, Carp!?

    And the *GIRLS*, Carp!!

  5. Where is our expert Jbeck for real pro comment (not to mention his name by night approaching)? Probably, he just realized, that he can rule entire hockey world right behind the psychiatric personnel’s’ backs, when they are not looking… Not like he is missed, quite contrary. Besides, his sparkling illiteracy, make my broken, immigrant English look like Yale’s Doctorate Theses on Shakespeare. Nothing to learn from…

  6. Latona, Happy belated Birthday, of course, but don’t be so rude and blusterous…lol.

    >>>It’s implied, Jimbo. Didn’t need to be said ;)

I figured that, Carp – but I wanted to say it anyway!! ;-)

    >>>Just like headshots, and throwing a stick to a teammate, Jimbo.

    >>>God, please help us:

That was a very dirty trick, Carp!! What did I ever do to you!?!? ;-/

  9. Thanks again, Jimbo-buddy!

It can’t end any more quickly, Carp. Birthdays aren’t my thing.

  10. bobby ryan much better pickup then Nash. 3 years left on deal at $5 mill not $7 +..

  11. Back to the NHL rule makers : please put the lines where they were, reinstate the two-line pass and eliminate that ridiculous Brodeur whatchamacallit behind the goal, let the roaming goalies be hit whenever they feel like they can also play hockey. The two-line pass would go a long way toward eliminating the head shots that have become a “crisis”. The icing chase should also be looked at, but I don’t believe the NHL has the brains to contemplate any modification, yes? Love to hear from the fans regarding my “modest proposal” (risking a ridicule here, no?)

  12. Goog RRB’s blog. Anyway I am adding you and could look out for a lot more of your respective fascinating content post. Ensure that your update will again very soon.
