It’s Tee Time! It’s Go (Kings) Time!

Devils-Kings Game 2.

Those were the two favorite titles suggested by you knuckleheads, who refused to allow me to use the usual header.

I fully expect this series will be 1-1 after two games. Teams should be rested after that NBC-dictated extra travel day even though the series hasn’t traveled.

Have at it, have fun, make fun (of the Devils).

  1. Not sure I can bring myself to watch the game even though there is NOTHING else on tv. Maybe I’ll finally hook the DVR and watch a movie..

I like getting both Iginla and Nash on the team but for the right price. Or instead, I would call Dallas and see what it would take to pry Steve Ott from their. Tough sob who can really play! He would neutralize Chris Neil, David Clarkson, a bunch of the Flyers and Penguins goons like Asham. I believe he is a former first round pick too so he can certainly play this game. Just think how tough this team would be to play against with Ott on the third line and Prust on the fourth line where he belongs. Oh yeah, and Rupp in Hartford where he belongs.

  3. Blueshirts off-ice officials best in the league. Fixed the penalty box door in the Devils series and didn’t even require a trip to the Home Depot. If that was me, at least 2 trips to Home Depot, cursing like a drunken sailor all the way.

  4. Boo-Ka-Boom on

Wow Carp,…great link…i couldnt even imagine where our franchise would be right now.

  5. BOO K – I’m in on the Vegas trip ………………………….(If Mrs. Papa Bear let’s me)

  6. Boo-Ka-Boom on

Papa..dont worry im in the same drafting up the permision slip tonight Lol.

  7. BOO-K, I’d suggest a bonehead/knucklehead trip to the draft…but then we’d have spend some time in Pittsburgh…I hate Pittsburgh.

  8. Pretty sure the extra day off was because of the Radiohead concerts at the Rock the last two nights.

  9. Boo-Ka-Boom on

Yeah pittsburgh is brutal…a road trip to toronto would be fun. Thats a cool city.

  10. Boo-Ka-Boom on

By tne way Carp..i like the throwback kings logo.

    That is a throwback right?

  11. According o Doc “true professional” Emrick, Lou Lame-o-relo has a good ear for talent. Maybe Lou should addition for American Idol judge

  12. These Devils players put my footballer brethren to shame in the diving department.

  13. Czechthemout!!! on

Bob Mckenzie said a couple of days ago that Justin Schultz compares to Doughty. If that’s the case, we have to have this kid signed cause he could be the answer for us as the QB of the power play and more!

  14. Boo-Ka-Boom on

Yeah def latona…wow quick is looking sharp tonight.

Plus italy is in a tough group with spain, croatia and the irish

  15. That’s probably the second toughest group; I actually figured Spain and Croatia would move on before the match fixing surfaced. And you can never count out the Irish.

Americans getting some good experience! Brown, Quick! USA Sochi 2014!

  16. I think Ukraine has the toughest group with France England and Sweden. They’d be lucky to even place third in the group but I’m not losing my hopes! Plus, I also have Russian squad to root for! :)

  17. Carp see your post at 2:27pm today. Not saying you said you’d make the trade for Nash, but i think it was the first time I heard you say what you thought his value was!

Meanwhile im surprised you don’t think the offer of a 3rd liner with 6 goals making 4m, plus average prospects and a no1 was a lowball offer?

I think we could have gotten Nash without giving up McD or Kreider if sather played hit differently. Respected that it was Craig Patrick not Howson running the show.

You know my view on this and i know you dont agree. But i think Sather misread his hand. And his leverage is even worse now than it was then.

Whoever thinks Columbus is going to just get rid of Nash is so wrong. Just think of the squealing that would have gone on around here if we offered Stepan, MDZ and Dubi in March. Yet I think most would gladly do that now.

  18. Boo-Ka-Boom on

Im a umass alum myslef, like the quick man.

Got the luxury of seeing paul kariya when ne was with maine and mike grier when he was with BU. also tim duncan play vs camby when he was at wake forrest.

    The good ole days.

  19. Boo-Ka-Boom on

Yeah thats a tough group CCCP. I think russia can go to the final four with an upset or two. Latona, i agree, italy probly wouldnt have gotten out of that group regardelss of the match fixing

  20. >>Kovalchuk looks like he would rather be fishing

He’s looked like that since the Rangers series.

  21. Czechthemout!!! on

guys watch what Kings are doing to the Devils forcheck. They are moving the puck very quickly and are using the entire ice surface to do it. We tried to constantly force the puck out along the boards. The Devils scouted what we did very well and were effective in stopping it. We could not or would not adjust our game and that’s why we ultimately lost.

  22. CCCP,

All the groups are pretty tough this year, but I would say that Denmark is most screwed. They’re a team that probably has realistic chances of advancing in any other group, and they draw, Germany, the Netherlands, and Portugal.

  23. Czechthemout!!! on

Rick Nash will be traded this month. And the price for him will be lower than it was around the trade deadline. Dreager and Mckenzie along with numerous other hockey people have talked about the fact that Nash is going to be moved and soon. In fact, the ground work for his getting traded has already started to be laid out according to Mckenzie. It is now a buyers market for his services because he has the NTC and will only go either to us or San Jose. The Sharks apparently need to move Marleau to make a Nash deal happen and his contract is going to be hard to move. At least that’s what I’ve read so we will see.

I still believe that a package of AA,Dubi,MdZ and perhaps Thomas or a number two gets it done. But we will soon find out.

  24. I sure hope so, CCCP. That’s the best part!

    Two solid periods please, Kings!

  25. Cto I know I’m out on a limb on this one but I think the price is just as high for Nash if not higher. Guess we’ll see.

  26. Wicky© RUPP SMASH!!! on

Please tell me none of you armchair GMs thought the Penner talk from last thread was serious!!

  27. Czechthemout!!! on

You replace them with Erixon, Nash, JT Miller and perhaps Justin Schultz. Don’t forget, we also get Kreider or a whole season.

  28. Wicky© RUPP SMASH!!! on

i would do that deal for nash in a millisecond (and I like MDZ)

  29. Czechthemout!!! on

    Nash Richards Gabby

    Kreider Stepan Cally

    Hags Boyle JT Miller

Prust Gaustad Oscar Lindbergh/ ufa / Andrew Yogan

    McD Girardi

    Staal Erixon/ Schultz

    Strahlman Erixon/ Bickel/Mcilrath

Let’s call that tool Howson and get it done man.

And than, let’s give the undertaker a shot o make the team. I liked what I saw in the two preseason games from him more than what I saw at Traverse city.

  31. JimboWoodside on

Funny how the officials *always* see those high-sticks when a Deb player is hit…

  32. Czechthemout!!! on

Stoll is good on the power play. Has a very good shot from the point.

  33. Yeah, Jimbo – at least the Rangers would make some egregious errors which would result in some decent scoring chances!

  34. He’s a good face-off man too, isn’t he? And I wouldn’t take the six goals for much – basically everyone in the Kings failed at scoring.

  35. JimboWoodside on

Kings are ticking me off – keeping things way too close in this series, unlike all their others..

  36. JimboWoodside on

The Chihuahua is still there, Latona – the ASPCA hasn’t captured him yet!

  37. Stoll 6 goals? look at the bright side – he’ll fit right in and may come cheap!!!

  38. Czechthemout!!! on

And there is that fourth line again. The Devils best line of the playoffs. Incredible.

  39. JimboWoodside on

Didn’t the Kings scout the Debs at all? Don’t they know not to keep the scoring low and let the Debs hang around close? They must not have watched the Ranger series.

Fatso still not having to break a sweat – not the way to beat this team..

  40. Orr!! LMAO – THought the same thing. Take a peak at the beak of the week on Gionta!!!

  41. Czechthemout!!! on

It loves once again that a roster spot in the NHL sould never be takn for granted. Every line, every player has to be able to play his game and also score some goals. Where would the Devils be if they didn’t get the goals in the playoffs that have come rom the fourth line?

  42. Wicky© RUPP SMASH!!! on

I’m with you on both counts and I wouldn’t mind stoll either

  43. WTB? How is he trying to avoid contact there – he basically jumped on top of him!

  44. JimboWoodside on

Shanny won’t be suspending any Debbies, no matter what offenses are committed..

  45. Gionta’s linemate Carter got quite a beak as well!! What’s going on here??

  46. JimboWoodside on

There Ya go, Latona – correct!

It really is amazing how the NBC crew is cheerleading for the Debbies – I wonder if the Canadian media is favoring NJ in their coverage too?

  47. JimboWoodside on

Papa – they have noses for the net! 4th liners with big noses who score…

  48. JimboWoodside on

OK, ORR – amazing how these NBC guys are so concerned about the Devs…”What does NJ need to do to get back into this series, Mike!?”

  49. Oops. I absolutely HATE even-up or make-up calls. Don’t make another bad call just because you already made one!

  50. JimboWoodside on

Kovy had the win there, if not for the pipe during the late PP – refs tried, but they couldn’t hand it to NJ…

  51. You know what they say about guys with big noses…………..they smell a lot!!

  52. JimboWoodside on

Yeah, his “profession” was being a screaming Debbies partisan announcer for so many years – and not much has changed!

  53. JimboWoodside on

Kings look very nonchalant here in the OT – they have a chance to go home up 2-0, but they don’t seem to be pressing to score…

  54. JimboWoodside on

Gee, Doc didn’t sound so happy or animated at the end of the coverage, did he!?

  55. That vaunted Devils fourth line, which scored their only goal tonight … was also the line that Doughty went right through for the Kings first goal, and the line that Carter abused twice on the winning goal. Just sayin’.

  56. Czechthemout!!! on

Three months ago, Jeff Carter was playing the hell hole that is Columbus. From that nightmare to winning game two in the finals is amazing. Rick Nash is watching this and thinking that if only he was traded to the Rangers, this might be him right now.

  57. JimboWoodside on

Anybody that goes into Newark and *doesn’t* stay within the substantial police protective shield of the Pebble is totally nuts!

  58. JimboWoodside on

Good catch, Carp – I guess they aren’t invincible after all, scrubs that they truly are…

  59. If the Rangers can get Nash for AA, Dubi, MDZ and Thomas + a 2nd, why not? They should sign Brodziak and either Boyes or Gaustad. Additionally either Sarich and/or Campoli on D and re-sign Stralman. Also, St. Croix may end up being a better offensive player than Thomas.

    Nash Richards Gaborik
    Kreider Stepan Cally
    Hags Boyle Brodziak
    Prust Gaustad Rupp/Mitchell/Yogan/Miller/Somebody

    Girardi McDuder
    Staal Campoli
    Stralman Sarich
Maybe Erixon, McIlrath or Shultz (If they sign him) will replace one of the names above?

  60. Czechthemout!!! on

Trade the Devils fourth line! Mitchell and Rupp are clearly the better option. Perhaps the Devils fourth line needs to go and talk to Mike Rupp and tap his vast knowledge on how to play this game both on the offensive and defensive side of the ice.

  61. JimboWoodside on

Kovalschmuck looks pretty disinterested in this series so far – I guess beating our Rangers was his Stanley Cup…

  62. JimboWoodside on

First game in LA is going to be an all-important one. Go down 3-0, and it’s all over.

  63. Czechthemout!!! on

Rupper can teach them how to take stupid penalties, fan on shots, pass to nobody, and of course his graceful skating technique. And while he’s at it, maybe he can teach them how to lose a fight to weaker opponents when you are being paid for your supposed pugilistic prowess.

  64. JimboWoodside on

Feeling really happy that the Debs fans didn’t have much at all to cheer about – their boys never led in either game, not for a second…

  65. ThisYearsModel on

I actually thought Emrick’s sign off, with all the neames from Slap Shot, was pretty good. Very cool watching Doughty beat the Newark Trap for the first goal.

  66. Czechthemout!!! on

It’s a shame the Rangers lost to the Devils. I think we match up better against the Kings than the Devils do. But we’ll never know.

  67. JimboWoodside on

*Total shame*, Czech – one way or another, I think a Kings-Rangers final would have been more exciting hockey, and not just for us Ranger fans!

  68. That was a perfect ending! Devils fans and Fatso upset because they lost, and Flyers fans upset because Carter scored the winner!

  69. It was visibly coming. When Kings decided it’s time to finish – they do. As for pathetic debbies…they have no business in SC Final. Too bad deflated Rangers let them… BTW, so much for all this talks about Rangers “low scoring” from Devil’s advocates (fanned writers). What do they have? …two fluke goals in two games home. Oh, that’s a scoring! Morons! Too bad deflated Rangers let them
Feel very happy for Kings, I like this team for speed, precise passing and confidents. They play “total hockey” – 5 in persistent attack and 5 in fierce defense. And the talents they have. Quick is great. This team deserves SC.
The more I watch Parise, the less I want him on my team for that amount of money. Efforts are here but I already heard that about most our domestic players (doesn’t backed by statistics and results).

  70. JimboWoodside on

Papa, I thought there might have been a partial screen on fatso – he had a few players between himself and Carter – but if there wasn’t a screen, it was a lousy goal.

  71. Czechthemout!!! on

With the exception of Kreider, all four lines stunk. There was the exception in each game where one or two other forwards did a few things but for the most part they did nothing and that’s why they lost.

  72. Darryl Sutter’s got some shnoz as well. He’d give Gionta run for his money!

  73. JimboWoodside on

Chico!? Where!? Are you watching our Dolan-owned network’s post-game coverage? Those traitors..

  74. Screen or not, Uncle Daddy didn’t readjust his positioning, so I say lousy goal.

  75. Yup. Callahan was good in Games 3 and 4, I think it was. Prust had a good game in there. Trying to remember some others … seems so long ago now. They stole a couple of games where they were outplayed, they lost a couple of games that could have gone either way — the kinds of games they usually won this year. They had one or two games where they just weren’t very good at all.

  76. JimboWoodside on

    >>>That was a perfect ending! Devils fans and Fatso upset because they lost, and Flyers fans upset because Carter scored the winner!

    +++++++1, Latona!

  77. Czechthemout!!! on

    Papa Bear

But the real question is would Sutter’s shnoze fit under his visor if he were still playing. As I recall, Sutter’s wore a helmet without a visor when he played for the Hawks. He was a real good player for them too. Retired early I think cause of injury.

  78. JimboWoodside on

Still can’t believe that Cally wasn’t injured in the last series – no matter what he and Torts say, he wasn’t playing his regular game.

  79. Somebody else in the organization vehemently told me, twice, that Callahan was not injured in the ECF. He was banged up earlier, but fine in the ECF. I pointed out that he had one hand on the stick the entire series, that he was seen shaking his right hand a few times, that he kept his right hand in his pocket during press conferences, and that he didn’t seem able to shoot the puck … and was told, he was fine.

What would they have to gain by insisting that?

  80. Jimbo,

Great, although extremely unlikely if not impossible, idea with the network switch. Then, MSG could become MSG Knicks and MSG+ could become MSG Rangers or something. Our OWN channel!

  81. JimboWoodside on

I don’t have a clue, Carp – but what are we to believe? Our own eyes, or Ranger officials?

  82. Czechthemout!!! on

Those three guys won two series for the Devils. Not ” future ” ranger Parise or Kovalchuck. And fatso should have stopped both of those goals.

  83. Cally’s wife on is case about working during the delivery = bad series maybe?

  84. JimboWoodside on

Exactly Latona – but I don’t think that the YES people want to have any other sports identity connected with the YES Network except for the Yankees – I would love to see both those teams go there, though.

Dolan is not loyal to his own teams, although he doesn’t have the NETS on MSG, so maybe it’s just the Rangers that he doesn’t care about..

  85. JimboWoodside on

If he wasn’t hurt, I can’t explain why he didn’t play like the Cally we know and love.

  86. Czechthemout!!! on

What’s amazing to me is that you are going to have between 300-400 hits tonight on the blog. Pretty impressive dude. Good job! I still maintain that’s its because you actively interact with us posters.

  87. JimboWoodside on

Gee, Parise hasn’t looked like the potential highest-paid player in the NHL so far this series, does he? He didn’t excel against us, either, save for a couple of empty-net goals..

  88. JimboWoodside on

OK, ORR – that’s fine – I’m Prust sayin’….he’s not showing a whole lot lately. Maybe he’s “not hurt” either…

  89. Doughty beat Clarkson’s weak attempt at forecheck on the first goal – got him to chase and then blew right past him.

  90. JimboWoodside on

    >>>Carp, what did Chico say?

Yeah, Carp – how did he cover up for Fatso and whine about stuff tonight?

  91. Peter

Nice…. But I think you’re on the wrong blog if your trying to get a message to the debbie fans!!!!

  92. Yeah, team, whose best line in PO is fourth, will go far… ”superstar” Parise, who didn’t score in what?, like 11 games, another supergreed Kovy, who lost his dangerous play faster, than prom queen virginity and I hope in the same way- forever. And someone complain about Gabby or Richards?

  93. Czechthemout!!! on

Like I said, say no to Parise!

    Papa Bear

We were beaten by their fourth line. Shamefull.

  94. ThisYearsModel on

CARP–This blog is the best place to be…..even after we are out of it. The best thing about the Kings performance so far………..they have limited that hideous horn and limited the screaming from that asshat PA guy in Newark. Out here in SoCal……….and as usual for LA area sports fans….EVERYONE is on the Kings bandwagon now. No more 24/7 Lakers crap on the radio, nothing about the baseball teams or USC, it is all Kings all the time.

  95. Give me Nash, Iginla, Bob Ryan and Weber and I’ll bring you The Cup! Easy…

  96. Czechthemout!!! on

Fear not. We got one in Kreider. We need to add another and we will. I the pessimist believe that we will either get Nash or someone else at some point in the season.

  97. Czechthemout!!! on

It’s good for the game if the Kings can take the cup. It does nothing for te game if te Devils win it.

  98. JimboWoodside on

If the Debs win it, it just affirms the clutch-grab-hold-trap style of play that has made this series so exciting, up to this point. Just what the league needs!

And a SC winning team that is on league welfare, as well – near-bankruptcy – great commercial for the league!

  99. Not only players, but I hope Torts too will learn something out of this season and PO. Obviously, he is a King of all motivational speakers, but to say to all of us, that we can shove his motto “Safe is Death!”… is probably too much.
Better understand how to get team in a peak condition in a peak time and unleash players’ natural instincts, that’s all I’m asking. Is it too much to ask?

  100. >>Good bye Devils!

No premature celebration please. They can easily win the next two.

  101. OK, now I’m talking too much…Good night fellows!
I definitely will sleep better, knowing that very soon Debbies will be in the same forgettable pile of losers with no difference, where we already are, which kind of soothes the pain a little. Hope, it doesn’t make me a bad person?

  102. JimboWoodside on

Good night, 4ever – I hope that’s where they wind up – nobody remembers the losers!

  103. JimboWoodside on

Yeah they can, JBytes – Kings have been better on the road than at home – that said, if LA wins one of their home games, it’s pretty much gonna be tough for the Debs to overcome.

  104. Yeah, Rick, you’re truly – The Best and are greatly appreciated here very much, and particularly by such a cynical (I’m not), sarcastic old farts like me. Now it’s late and nobody can tell me that I’m kind of brownnosing.

  105. I should sue Trojan condoms. Unreliable!! You see what you left me with, Trojan? You bastard!

  106. Don’t talk to your father like that!! Now got to your room, and you think about what you said.

    I’ve never been so ashamed!

  107. Did you say “got to your room”?? Now I know where he gets his brains from! Can you spell divorce?

You know it’s D-I-V-O-R-C-E, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, broadways very best!

  108. ONE – It’s wonderful the the philthydelphia ‘brain’-trust gave up on the two players that are in the process of getting LA their first cup ever – in exchange for a total spacecadet goalie that has done nothing to solve their perennial goalie woes

TWO – happy as hell the debbies are losing…

    GO KINGS!!!
