Rangers re-sign Marek Hrivik

From the Rangers:

New York, May 30, 2012 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent forward Marek Hrivik.

Hrivik, 20, led Connecticut (AHL) with five goals and tied for the team lead with nine points in nine playoff games.  He ranked second among AHL rookies in playoff goals, tied for third in points and first in power play goals (two).  He also tied for sixth in the league overall in playoff goals and power play goals.  Hrivik posted a six-game point streak from April 21 at Bridgeport to May 7 vs. Norfolk, registering five goals and three assists over the span.  The six-game streak tied as the fourth-longest in the AHL during the playoffs, and included a three-game goal streak which tied as the longest in the postseason.  Hrivik completed the first round with a team-high, four goals, in Connecticut’s three-game sweep against Bridgeport.

Hrivik signed an Amateur Tryout Agreement with Connecticut on March 30, and made his professional debut on March 31 vs. Adirondack.  He notched one goal in eight games with the Whale during the regular season.  Hrivic registered his first professional point with a goal on April 11 at Portland.

Prior to joining Connecticut, Hrivik skated in 54 games with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), registering 29 goals and 41 assists for 70 points, along with eight penalty minutes and a plus-13 rating.  He tied his QMJHL career-highs in assists and power play goals (11).  Hrivic ranked third on the team in goals, assists, points, and power play goals, and tied for second on Moncton in plus-minus rating.  He also registered one goal and two assists in four playoff games with the Wildcats.

The 6-1, 195-pounder skated in 179 career QMJHL games with Moncton, registering 93 goals and 111 assists for 204 points, along with 40 penalty minutes and a plus-29 rating.  In 2010-11, Hrivik established career-highs in goals (38), assists (41), points (79), penalty minutes (18), and power play goals (11) while skating in 59 games.  He led Moncton and tied for seventh in the league in goals, and ranked second on the team and tied for 15th in the QMJHL in points.  Hrivik made his North American debut during the 2009-10 season, recording 26 goals and 29 assists for 55 points in 66 games after being selected by Moncton in the first round (34th overall) of the 2009 CHL Import Draft.  Hrivik has also registered six goals and 20 assists for 26 points in 29 career QMJHL playoff games.  He skated in the 2010 Memorial Cup with Moncton, tallying one assist in three tournament contests.

The Zilina, Slovakia native has also skated in several international tournaments, including the 2009 and 2011 IIHF U-20 World Junior Championship.  In 2011, Hrivik ranked second on Slovakia with two goals in six tournament contests.

My hate for the devils started in 1987-88 when mclean scored the ot goal vs chicago to knock the rangers out of the last playoff spot. 87-88 rangers were loaded that year!!!…..ok maybe not

“How does someone evolve into a Devils’ fan? Seriously?”

When you want to get rid of that annual feeling in your gut you’ve had since Friday night. That’s how!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I do have a series to watch. Hey, at least you won the Winter Classic.

  7. Ok guys, I left that post and the responses hanging a few posts due to being busy at work and such :/

Re the cap- if it goes up it makes everything that much easier. I am sure you guys watched what I watched where 1-3 more goals in these playoffs here and there and we are talking about them playing tonight and not golfing early.

A higher cap I don’t see how anyone could be opposed to adding a Parise style player. Especially considering how well he can fit into Johnny T’s system. And how a little bit of scoring could have vastly changed our fortunes this spring

  8. <>

the league did not say, although it was implied as per old boy’s network agreement, that these “standards” will not be forced upon the new jersey devils so that that team will be able to continue to hold, hook and interfer on a regular basis.

  9. Shoveling their way to a five game beating by Los Angeles, is the Devils.

The kid from CT jonny quick will win the conn smythe…but it will be a close vote between him and Anze the giant!

  11. “Well I would like to have a 60-goal scorer, I’d like to have a defenseman who can play 25 minutes and get 25 goals; I would like to have a goaltender that could be under one goal per game,” Sather said. “I mean those are wish-lists that every team in this league would like to have. Realistically, there are some people that are gonna be available. But they’re not available until July 1. So you really can’t talk about any of those guys.”

    Extenze Sather!!

  12. after the wooping they put on us…. why not sign the Devils 4th line this summer? They are all UFA”s and would probably cost $2.5 -3m combined?

  13. Papa, I know you’re probably just kidding. But, I’m convinced that we have players in our prospect pool and CT that are better. The Devils just have a more balanced attack than the Rangers. The Rangers essentially sacrifice a scoring line for a defensive “shutdown” line. The Rangers have 3 lines that _may_ score (only 2 really do) and the Devils have 4 lines that can score. I think it comes down to team style; not individual players. Just my humble opinion….

  14. Boo-Ka-Boom on

Carp are you going to review the Kings/devils game? Not extensively like our boys, but i always enjoy your hockey point of view.

Or am i breaking a bonehead law and asking for something severly taboo?!?

  15. Okay. If you don’t like the Devils 4th line, How bout …..Tom Poti is a UFA in 2013. Maybe we should save some cap room??? (Although, I’m not even sure if he played this year – but I’m sure he’d come back. He loved it here!) ;-(

NYR_FAN, hey buddy…i meant to write back to you, but was busy…i did not invent ‘the Bernank’. There was a video around 2008-09 I think…sometime after the Lehman cascade event…where this guy did a series of paranormal videos for finance about such things as treasury markets and who controlled the Fed. Was pretty funny, and I bet you may have seen some of them already. That gentleman used the name ‘the Bernank’ either by design or by default..pure genius anyhows.

  18. duckbill, I’m sure if they hadn’t invented it, you would have. Keep on keeping on with your unmatched awesomeness!

Carp, can we get an “IT’S GO TIME!” for some Kings action tonight?

  19. Yes, “The Bernank”! Genius, Duck. Pure genius ;) I’ll have to find those videos…I know there’s this one guy on CNBC always calls him Big Ben or The Bernank….good stuff!!

The final four this year are far from the best NHL teams, but got where they are by unstoppable grit and by working harder than everybody else. Congrats to Torts and the 2011/12 NYR.

  21. Okay seriously, much better crop of potential UFA’s forwards waiting for us in 2013 (if the labor dispute doesn’t change the rules) if we don’t score Parise this year (which I don’t think we will) :
    -Staal (Jordan)

Maybe some will be on the block this summer.

  24. So who’s ready for some old fashioned Devils spanking? I guess we are not getting Go Kings Time post?

  25. Hope this doesn’t cut into my Hatfield and McCoys Part III. What time are they dropping the puck??

  26. Boo-Ka-Boom on

Man, costas tried hard to make this sound like a juicy final. He and the rest of the suits wish they were at the garden now.

  29. BKB – remember Kings made the finals in 93. We won the Cup in 94.. We can live with that pattern again.

  30. ilb – he’ll look just as good tonite with his hands raised in celebration scoring a couple on fat daddy!

  31. Kings have broke the forecheck more times in the first 4 minutes than the Rangers did for most of the 1st periods of the series! Dev’s are in trouble!!!!!

  41. Finally all packed. Turned on the game with 2 mins left in the period. Pebble sounds dead. Go Kings Go.

  42. boxcareddiehospodar on

Two points the rangers should learn from the kings:

    1) they very rarely moved the puck up the boards. They utilize the center of the ice very nicely. This affects the Devils fore-check which outside of a few chances is non-existent.

    2) The kings do not run around in their own end. very few times there was 2 kings and 1 devil player on the puck in the kings end.

Zip’s not traveling, either, I think. I’m sure Andrew Gross, Pat Leonard and probably Brooks and one of the Times guys will travel, though they’ll be doing sidebars because their papers actually, you know, cover the Devils with a regular beat guy.

  57. JimboWoodside on

What the hell is going on!? Kings are only ahead by one freakin’ goal!? WTB!? This isn’t the way for the Kings to beat these bastages…

  58. Carpy, we all talk about signing Parise or someone for big bucks and a lotta years. Has any research been done on any of these big money/years contracts? What players are actually playing better in year 2,3,4 of them?

I think of all these guys that are worse than when they signed. Starting with DiPietro, Ovechkin, Patrick Keane. I guess you could say Malkin is better. Who else?

Is it worth it to sign a guy for $$$ for a long time?

  59. boxcareddiehospodar on

    No review on the goal?

Zubrus should get a penalty on ever check he throws. Comes in with the elbows everytime.

  60. that terrible ice helps the debbies, the puck just bounces and rolls on edge all game long.

  61. G7 – I don’t think they freeze the pucks… Especially when they take a lead…. They go to the unfrozen puck bag – no chance of making a play….Been doing for years.

  62. LA leads in every category

    shots 14-9

    hits 29-25

    faceoffs 19-14

but typical debbies, they tie it on a fluke goal

  70. >>ha kid in a ranger jersey

I came in here just to point that out. Try as they might, they just can’t keep those Rangers fans away.

  71. He is wrong, Papa….He won one in 2010 with NJ. They lost in 5, didn’t make PO last year. In Atlanta he played in 4 games, got swept by NY

  72. Quick is awesome…parise with a sneaky play..not sure how i feel about that…

  73. I was in Secaucus after Game 5, Matty… I was hoping the atmosphere would be much more festive; the “LGR!” chants after wins are awesome.

  74. Zubrus reminds me of the crazy Russian guy in the Sopranos who Chris and Paul couldn’t kill in the Pine Barrons. Big, stupid, feels no pain.

  75. Matty Boy – He’s having a googd playoff – I’ll give him that. Disappears too much for my liking though to be a full time member of my team.

I am byfuglien pissed we aren’t watching the rangers in the finals.

  80. I know I need to get over it, but for all the talk of the Rangers getting outplayed by Jersey, in games 5 and 6 they basically entered the third period tied and dominated play for that period. Really, for the first time all year it just didn’t bounce their way. Could easily. – easily- have been Rangers in six. Still can’t get over it.

  81. Uh oh, my overtime vision doesn’t look good for the Kings. It’ll be all over before the eighth minute mark.

  82. JimboWoodside on

Debs have the Kings right where they want them – it’s sickening that things are going this way..

The kings held the puck for one second longer tonight than the rangers.
made the devils commit and then passed.
devils forecheck non-existent for most of the night.
will the refs ever call an interference penalty against the devils?

  92. Oh, it was the “Scorpion Save”, eh? Well, the scorpion couldn’t sting tonight.

  93. Watching this game …..it sucks…. how did we loose to that team… it had to be fatigue. this is a game we won time and time again this year…..it sucks boys.

  94. JimboWoodside on

    >>>will the refs ever call an interference penalty against the devils?

Apparently not – there’s a special NHL rule just for the Devils..
