It’s Go Time!

Rangers-Devils Game 6.

The Rangers play their fourth must-win game of the year. Yes, this really is one.

But is it the last game? Is this the last “It’s Go Time!”?

I think not. But I’ve been wrong a bit lately.

We’re expecting Steve Eminger to go back into the lineup in place of Stu Bickel, but not expecting any other lineup changes.

The Empire State Building, which is a big, big Flyers fan, will supposedly be lit in red  and blue tonight. Apparently Mr. Snider and the ESB hate the Devils more than they hate the Rangers, and of course the NHL, NBC, NBCSN, Comcast, that piece of carcillo Bobby Clarke, among others, agree.

Best comment of the day, if not one of the most hilarious of the year:

I am not sure what to think. Generally speaking, when I’ve been completely down on this team in the playoffs they’ve come away with a win…when I’ve been confident, they’ve lost.

    So….5-0 Devils… :-)

Hope this isn’t our last “It’s Go Time”….It’s been one remarkable season that when you look back has been one of the greatest in Rangers history…

  31. Rangers D getting out of position — DZ making some bad plays. Stop thinking, start doing.

  32. guys, we cant pass or accept a pass. watch the devils theyre talent is higher.

  33. They have to want it tonight. So far they need to control the tempo and they are not doing a good job at that.

  34. again outr 4th line sucks with a bad pinch by staal and there freaking 4th line again

    see ya

  35. And then Staal doesnt pick up Carter effectively. That goal is all him. Unfortunate.

  36. so far, another weak start. Gionta’s lil’ 4th line bro is killing the Rangers this entire series

  37. Ugh I like delzotto on offense sometimes, but he’s been our weakest link this whole series.

  38. pathetic start. were done. im sorry positive pollies, but look at how mismatched we are in this game and we just started. its nothing against all the hard workin guys we have, but the talent level is just not there compared to nj

  39. Too many odd-man rushes. Not the best start in an elimination game. We will win tonight.

  40. I told ya about MDZ.- he will cost us in crucial games. There were at least 3 choices to play, he tried 4th – the worse.

  41. good job Staal.

sickening… being beaten repeatedly by a 4th liner that doesnt deserve to live.

  42. ThisYearsModel on

Prust and Boyle made zero attempt to get back on that goal. We get scored on by waiver wire fodder again.

  43. Sort of incredible that all these other teams (Sens, Caps, Debbies) can easily and quickly transform themselves into mirror images of the Rangers, who have acted (and been treated) as if becoming a gritty, shot blocking team is some sort of psychological and strategic achievement. Apparently it’s not that hard. What’s hard is being offensively merciless.

  44. That was Staal’s fault, plain and simple. DZ has played poorly, but that goal is not on him.

  45. Jimbo (Win It For TONY!) on

  46. nothing henrik coulddo. perfect passing. and finish.

beaten by the 4th line waste of space again.

  47. Game over, series over, season over, we gotta buy some offense on July 1. Sorry ‘heads, it is what it is.

  48. N.CountryNYRFan on

the last two games our defensive zone coverage has killed us…wtb!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. And again, how MDZ can leave the most dangerous guy without being glued to him…?????

  50. We all saw it, right, Latona. Kovalchuk kept getting open and it was a matter of time before they got him the puck … Callahan over-aggressive when the puck went to the middle, left him all alone.

  51. we wont see rangers actually score until the games already out of reach. they just are tired. who says they arent is delusional. slow to react to everything

  52. onecupin73yearsandcounting on

With their confidence at a season low , they needed to score first or have some sort of shot in the arm. short handed goal, deflection etc.

But.. they seem to be dying in typical ranger fashion that I have seen for decades.

    Out coached, out hustled.. pathtetic

There is still plenty of time left. We were trailing 2-0 in game 6 in ’94 too….

  55. this is a slaughter. im only watching cuz this is our boys last game. give a good effort boys please!!

  56. We are a defensive team supposedly yet are defense is terrible. If only we didn’t play around with the Sens and Caps maybe we would have more energy for this game, but I think we are exhausted.

  57. Blogmama Go Tony! on

For hartnelll’s sake…..last I checked games last more than one period.

  58. this game was lost when we didnt score on the pp

why the need to activate the d on every shift

  59. Is this youth finally showing up? Our defensemen are melting down. Our team is all over the place, whiffing, missing passes. Just chaos.

  60. we can do this. its all set up like 1994. history can repeat itself. we can do this. we’ve just gotta believe.

Staal looks really tired. Reaching for pucks. Swatting at pucks. A step slow.

Why would he be tired? He missed 3 months of the season.

  68. It’s one thing to have a goalie who plays lights out and backbones your team. It’s another to have a goalie who is just so damn good he masks your team’s [otherwise glaring] deficiencies.

  69. >>too many Devils on the ice there?

They’ve perfected that art. I’ve complained about it many times during the regular season.

  70. Grabby,

I fear you’re right about Hags. Maybe he can get a shot in the off-season. Some muscle. Or get himself on a line with Skid.

  71. Jimbo (Win It For TONY!) on

Well, a terrible first period – just like in the last 2 games – can we bounce back this time?

  72. put me out of my misery. i will be on my 2nd bottle of pepto by 9pm. our blown pp early set the tone for the 1st per.

only positve from this is hopefully fatso rides off into the sunset and we never have to see him again after they win cup.

    devs over kings in 5

  73. Gregm_section403 on

Well, if staal isn’t tired, he’s being lazy. Too much reaching. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. I’ll say he’s tired.

  74. leetchhalloffame on

Fat lady warming up in the wings. Fat Marty going to Cup finals at age 40. It doesn’t get any worse than this.

  75. CraigWeather on

Carp, unfortunately we don’t have the talent that our 94 team did… Can’t say the score comes as a shocker. I’ll be the first to eat crow if we get to a game 7…. But I just don’t think we have it in us. It’s been an AWESOME year though and I told myself anything past the 2nd round was gravy.

  76. The start of the 2nd should really show us just how bad the boys want it and just how good Torts is. Look im not buying into this Deboer outcoached Torts there and Torts outcoached him here. Bottom line is Torts has been here before. This team has been here before. Deboer hasnt. That was not a very Rangers-esque period.

  77. Got to tell you, the Devils adjusted to pinch ins like they knew there were coming.

  78. Olga Folkyerself on

eric- switch from pepto to something with a skull and crossbones on the label.

  79. I hate this ” stick to our game plan” lax attitude Torts seems to have. Where is the sense of urgency?

  80. Not like it matters, but how come that Ponykarovky crashing Hank inside the crease is not a penalty and Hags outside the crease with his back to Marty is?

  81. Jimbo (Win It For TONY!) on

Fatso LaGreca sounds very chipper in the between-periods coverage.

  82. Staal isn’t tired, he’s slow. Always has been. Usually he moves his stick so he’s able to break up plays, but he gets caught pinching at times and doesn’t have the speed to get back.

  83. If John Tortorella needs to motivate grown men who are professional athletes to play in an elimination game, then we should legitimately TRADE EVERYBODY.

  84. Giving up 4+ odd man rushes in a period, let alone in a period of an elimination game, is unacceptable. They’re down 2. Plenty of time. But this kind of effort wont get it done. Give the Devils credit for getting back on D very well and pinching in quite well. But they need to test Brodeur and his 17 chins.

  85. ThisYearsModel on

Terrible pinches, crappy PK, this is too bad. I hoped they could get out of the period unscathed. Can’t knock the Devils effort though. They sure can skate.

  86. Anyone giving up must not have noticed we pulled the first two rounds out of our ass. Why not 3?

  87. Ye um, Latona, thing is most of these guys are in their very early 20s. Hardly grown men.

  88. 4everanger

because the refs hate the rangers and love fatso. he shares his donuts with them.

  89. Hard to understand why thed men were pinching so much early on, lots of odd man rushes

  90. Craig, at least youre not sleeping during this one. Stay with us. We will win tonight.

  91. onecupin73yearsandcounting on

You just can’t get behind and expect to win…

Got to give Lou credit for putting together a team he always finds a way.

  92. the save off Henrik’s glove and the one off the post, it could be 4-0 already

  93. Still professional athletes, Lev. And there are enough grown men on the team to set an example for the sprouts.

  94. Jimbo (Win It For TONY!) on

Maybe they were pinching to try to finally score the first goal in a game – but it obviously didn’t work..

  95. ThisYearsModel on

After all this focus on Kovalchuk, Cally goes far out of position and leaves him all alone at the side of the net. A year of discipline by the Rangers to the point of boredom, and in the eimination game we abandon it all? Really surprising and hard to figure.

  96. grabby, if you’re calling Kovalchuk a beast because he one-timed a cross ice pass into an empty net, then a lot of players are beasts. I really haven’t been impressed with him this series.

  97. Czechthemout!!! on

You can’t only blame MdZ on the first goal. Staal was also at fault. But MdZ had choice to make deep down by he goal, the right and only play is to cover the Devil player down low and take the body. The wrong play is to just stand there, watching the play and whiffing at the puck.

And how great did our fourth line look lumbering back to cover what is a real hockey line, even though they are the Devils fourth line?

To all you Rupp defenders out there, you still think he’s an NHL quality player?

Three Fugging scoring chances all period. A pop gun offense is just unacceptable. You cannot only defend your way to a Stanley Cup. But Torts said it himself. He doesn’t coach offense, only defense.

  98. onecupin73yearsandcounting on

sometimes I think sather builds a team to sell tickets and jersies , if they win the cup its a bonus.

  99. Kovalchuk has been much more of a bust than a beast this series. But he is playing hurt so he deserves some slack.

  100. Ryan from NJ on

No one can argue anymore that Henrik isn’t MVP of the entire league. Take him off this team and they are a fringe playoff team with another first round exit.

  101. Lev,
I will hold you personally responsible if (when) they lose. You were too convincingly promising. Have to answer for bazaar!

  102. BroadwayBlueShirts on

The Rangers have been flat and unprepared in 1st periods.

I don’t buy the fatigue argument. If they were fatigued, it would manifest itself as the game goes on.
Instead, they seem to find energy as the game progresses.

  103. onecupin73yearsandcounting on

They must score in the first few minutes of period 2 to give any kind of confidence and plant a seed of doubt in jersey.

  104. WOW. I am stunned how poorly the Rangers have played this series. there PP made the ranger PP look like a joke….

the safe or die strategy has definitely been followed tonight by our defense. the problem is the quality scoring chances are a joke….

the ranger d are gambling because the offense is so inept. richards and gabby are AWOL. they have to turn it up now………….

  105. we lose tonight and I still look back at Lundqvist’s performance in game 5. That was a look into a player’s soul.

  106. 4ever, ok. :(. Ill leave in a note at the Kotel next week for next year so I wouldnt be held responsible next year!

  107. Gonna have yo agree with Latona on kovy and motivation. Do you think King’s are motivated by Sutter. He can barely finish a sentence. Kovy has been better than gabby. Gabby just looks scared of body contact.

  108. Honestly don’t believe motivation, effort, or fatigue are the factors as much as poor performance, and over-aggressiveness.

  109. I agree, Carp, but somebody said that Torts didn’t give them a sense of urgency.

  110. Czechthemout!!! on

    Gabby is a Fugging loser.

And that was the best shift of the series.

  111. I never use the terms LOL and so on. But “That was a look into a player’s soul”?

  177. Czechthemout!!! on

Move the puck up the middle of the ice and stop with the chipping along the boards shit already!! They want to trap? Fugg them! Let them trap! Carry the puck up the ice to the red line. Dump it in slowly like they did most of the second period and pound their dmen. It worked great all period until they once again reverted back to the dumb board hockey crap. All the Devils offense is being generated by jamming the boards and the turnovers that occur.

  190. Let’s go Rangers!!!

So, I’ve been a daily reader of Carp’s words of wisdom for about four years now. This is probably the only website that I check every day – and I used to develop code for websites for a living for large media companies. I’ve been an occasional poster, an occasional e-mailer of the Carp (ok, only once). I’ve been a Rangers fan since the first game I went to when I was 8 years old – it was against the Nordiques, probably back in 1988. Guy Lafleur was playing for the Rangers, that’s about all I remember from the game.

This current team is something special. Regardless of what happens tonight, this team is something special. Think about where we were a year ago. We had to count on the Bolts to win in order to just barely squeak into the playoffs. By this time last year, it was almost a month already after we’d almost been swept by the Caps. But fast-forward to 2012 and we were the first team in the East to clinch a playoff spot, and only two points from winning the President’s trophy. After this incredible season, to look upon this team with anything less than complete astonishment is disingenuous.

The whole comparison to 1994 makes me sick. This team is nothing like the ’94 team. Both teams were unbelievable and special in their own ways, but they’re vastly different. Different people, different styles of play, different everything. I wish the league and the media would just shut up with the comparisons, although I understand why they do it. But it’s completely useless. Both teams deserve individual respect and recognition for the things they do to win games.

Just look at how our boys responded in the second. These guys never give up! As a fan, I’ve watched games where I’ve mentally given up (and Carp always complains about how often people around here give up). But these guys never do! They come back, and they grind, and they kick some Zuccarello-Aasen!

If there’s any team capable of doing this, it’s our boys. Forget the Devils and their divey-dirty play, and Marty’s Rockette kicks to the ceiling. Forget Washington, and Ottawa. Forget the first two periods of this game. Forget it all, and just focus on the next twenty. It might as well be a completely clean slate at this point. These guys can do it, and you can be sure they’re going to bust their butts every chance they can.

So with that said, as I wear my #2 jersey from Cosby’s…

    LET’S GO RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!

Marty the Whale has been playing a great game. Rangers need to keep him moving (flopping), at 40 years old, 18 games into this playoff HAS to wear on him.

  222. Hey Lev. Are you saying that gabby is playing like a 7 million dollar player?? How many times in the third period did he fail to get the puck out of the zone when it was on his stick?

    Let’s go Rangers !!!

    Dubi with the gane WInner…….

  223. ThisYearsModel on

Not confident about the OT. We had them on the ropes and left them off the hook.

  224. Czechthemout!!! on

I have to say that I am proud of the fact they didn’t lay down and fought their way to OT. If we go down, we are going down, we are going down fighting. And that’s all you can ask.

Where was this type of play in the first four and a half games? This why I always maintained that we are the better team.

  225. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

    LW3H —

I dont think we need further insight into LQ’s soul — he done a great job keeping a talented team with a ‘less than potent’ offense in the playoffs through 20 games. He has singlehandedly won may of the 10 wins the Rangers have — his soul is HUGE my friend! :)

  226. Ted Sheckler on

I just want to say, from the bottom of my heart, that no matter what happens…I’ve been drinking since they went down 2-0, and I will NOT be coherent when the night is done.

  231. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

  232. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

The Devils will be able to handle the OT pressure — they have won games 6 and 7 in OT against the Puddy Tats — they have been in the Rangers’ position before. Of all the Devils, Parise scares me most in OT.

  233. I hear ya. He shot it right into the bread basket with the whole top of the net wide open.

  234. If by some unprecedented reason we do not win lets all just appreciate the way the team fought back today and the way theyve played all year. We can analyze and critic tomorrow, the day after, and the weeks after. But we will win.

  235. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Yeah – how does that happen? – and he was down there for awhile, he just didn’t flop down for the Richards shot….dammit!!

  238. Jimbo (Win It For TONY!) on

Hahaha!! Tiki, I’m not 100% sure what you mean, but I don’t think we should discuss it any further right now!!

  239. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

  240. Ted Sheckler on

Lev – agreed. If they lose the rage will certainly come, so while we’re relatively clear-headed, let’s appreciate. It’s been an amazing season. The best anyone that became a fan after 94 (like me) has seen.

  241. Richards had no angle at the top of the net and about a half second to get the shot off. It’s too bad, but let’s get real here.

    Lots to be proud of.

Not good enough to win it this year.

But the Rangers have a bright future.

This one will sting for awhile – but they will come back in September a very determined bunch.

They are a Stanley Cup Contender now. It’s just that sometimes, you have to go through a painful loss to learn that you never want to feel that way again.

    Lots to look forward to.

  272. The coach said, before game 5, that this team is not tired. Well, maybe there were not tired, but Jersey sure had a lot more left in the tank. That DAMN ~Practice~ 36 hours after the marathon Washington game destroyed this team’s season – when they reallly had the heart and the talent to go all the way.

Thanks Coach Torts – you are a dirt bag of a coach.

I have not given those MSG Bastards one minute of my viewing time since they soiled our studio with those NJ scumbags, and I will not put that gaddamned channel on once during the off-season – they can kiss my ASS!

  304. Rough way to lose. Spotting them goals in the last 3 games is not the way to win a cup. Too bad they weren’t ready to play in the last 2 and lacked that killer instinct in this series. I am hopeful they will learn from it.

  305. Really sad right now, and the slow starts finally caught up to us. But I still think it’s been a great ride this season, and thanks to our boys for working hard and surprising a lot of people.

  306. Manny,

You know as well as I do that they’re close.

The Isles went through the pain before the pleasure – lots of it.

This is a young crew that will get even younger – and Hank is in his prime.

Scoring is needed for sure – as well as solidifying the 5/6 spots on D.

Time for Gordie Clark and his crew to keep stockpiling the shelves – and for Mr. Sather to pull off another steal or two.

  307. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

    Losing sucks.

I do not think the Rangers nor Debbies would/will beat the Kings.

But I feel the Rangers will be fine in the long run.

    Crappy feeling right now. Byfuglien.

  308. To be fair to Crass Ius, I do distinctly remember him prophetically (or a word that sounds similar), repeatedly and quite vehemently stating at the time of that practice in the Washington series that it was a ridiculous move by the idiot coach. Right?

  309. yes sather was right in not going for Nash unless you did not see Kreider play……..

kreider will be a top 6 forward on this team for a long time……..they would have had to trade to much talent/depth for a very good player but not good enough.

richards and gabby were avg at best in this series……..

stepan, hagelin, kreider, aa, and dubi have to provide more offense next year. i expect 20 goals for Kreider next season…..prust and feds are FA, i keep Prust at the right price $1 mill. and let feds go. they need skill if that is st croix, thomas, whoever they need more skill.

  310. You cant be upset after this year. You just cant. I can understand being upset at the way it ended but not the year.

I do not want Parise. At least not before Nash and/or Iginla. Id be open to the idea of trading Gaborik in order to get 2 of the 3 names listed above.

  313. We might get an influx of illegal Devils fans in here. The only way to deport them is by ignoring them. I repeat, DO NOT engage them.

  314. Congrats Devils. Good luck against L.A. Really disappointed that our two “big time guys,” Gaborik and Richards, played so small timel. Especially defensively where they were just miserable.

ORR – it just goes without saying!!! Maybe for some of the Boneheads who live out in the boondocks or in other parts of the country or world it might not matter, but these guys are “poachers” in our hockey territory – and losing to them, with all the resultant bragging rights and taunting, is simply *AWFUL!!!*

  318. Proud of my team but this loss might be the worst I’ve ever been through emotionally.

The Rangers gave us a great season. But they did not show up for most of this series. Hopefully lessons learned.

I will not be watching NHL hockey again til the fall. Couldn’t care less about the finals.

Thank you. Carp. Thanks to all you guys. A remarkable year that should have been ours. Heartbreaking is the only word I can think of.

  319. Thank you to the New York Rangers for a wonderful season, most of which was totally unanticipated.

Hold your heads high men – you did good!

  320. This has been the easiest playoff exit since the lockout for me to take, surprisingly. Once we knocked out the Craps I BEGGED not to lose to the Swamp Rats, thinking it would be too great a yoke to bear. But there isn’t really anything more you can say about this team; they gave everything they had and fought to the bitter end.

The Devils were the better team over six games and they advanced, but it’s hard for me to respect them as a team regardless of their affiliation because of all the diving they did. Marty Brodeur, that arrogant, disrespectful, overrated, fat, diving adulterer will get his; no way a team with former Flyers will let him get another Cup.

LET’S GO RANGERS and, for now, LET’S GO KINGS!

Thanks to Carp and the boneheads. for making this blog a great place to hang out and talk NYR hockey. Well most of the time anyway.

  321. Czechthemout!!! on

So now we have to evaluate what changes need to be made. There are several right of the top of my head, I can think of at least 4-6 but I won’t vent until tomorrow. Tonight they deserve our respect and admiration for fighting as hard as they did. This season in the end ends because of what was their biggest issues rearing their ugly heads. They just couldn’t score enough and they have a weak pp.

Congrats Torts and yes, even Sather on a fun season. This team took a major step towards being a perennial contender this season. Let’s have a productive off season and come back and go get the Stanley Cup. Anything less next year will be a disappointment.

  322. Braunschweiger on

Hope NBC gets horrid rating for the finals and Doc and the crew get fired…..Watching them lose with a Devils broadcaster is disgusting

Love this team for the great season entertainment and sense of real pride, instead of many years of humiliation, just hate it happens to these imbeciles…

  329. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

Hank may have to restructure. I think acquiring a Zach Parise, OR just putting so much financial pressure on the Derbils to keep him is important. Either hurt the Devils by taking Parise, or hurting their wallets for their future.

I’ll wait and see about Gaborik. He could be hurt? Who knows?

I think Del Zotto will be more effective when he plays regulalrly with a guy like Sauer (if he can make it back).

Losing Sauer hurt this team this season, I think. Forced Torts to overplay Girardi/McMonster/Staal/DZ, which may have cost us in the playoffs.

  330. Also, my navy hat is dead *and* I still got in trouble for what I thought was a relatively quiet banned word. This is a bad night. A very bad night.

  331. good, they just ripped gaborik a new one on the postgame show. he is no playoff performer, that is for sure.

  332. Two very similar teams, very evenly matched. I truly hate the Devils, almost as much as Philly, however I will say that Marty made a number of big impact saves throughout the series. Even in the second and third period of this game he was huge. Unfortunately, the Ranger players we expected the most from produced the least. Some of the forwards looked physically weak.
The bar has been raised though. Looking forward to next season. I expect a lot.

  333. “I’m on the fence about Anisimov; my patience with him has ran out.”

    He played awesome tonight.

  334. I think Richards was even worse than Gaborik in this series but I give him a pass for what he did in the 1st 2 rounds

  335. Czech,

    Agree with you 100%

The team’s focus this off-season changes with respect to what they’ve become – a Stanley Cup contender.

Now its a matter of adding just the right pieces – players who will play the way the coach demands.

And for Gordie Clark and his crew to look for scorers at the draft table. Not so easy to find, but absolutely necessary.

  336. Shoot the puck,Barry on

    Very proud of our guys.

I don’t like the piling on of Richards– the guy really was clutch these playoffs, and it seems he ran out of gas at the end. Gaborik is a bit more deserved, but I still want him on my team.

The team is real young. They’ll remix the squad a bit. If they could get Sauer back that would be key– he was missed in the playoffs. But the future is bright.

Was fun reading all season– looking forward to the next.

Great Rangers’ season! NHL is making it’s move on the NBA as people are tired of body tattoos and poor syntax and grammar by uneducated players. Thank you to Carp for running the best forum since Roosevelt’s fireside chats. God bless our troops who are like the NY Rangers of our nation.

  341. The problem with dumping Gaborik is how to you replace those 40 regular season goals? This teem has no offensive talent as it is

  342. This loss will hurt a lot more if Devils win The Cup. Otherwise, people will still be talking about 1994 twenty years from now.

  343. Jimbo (Win It For TONY!) on

Eric, I truly hope I’m wrong – but you know how it is – one season ends sadly, but with promise for the next – and then something always happens. An injury to a major player, an accident that happens in the off-season – a coach getting a better offer from another organization…all kinds of crap that nobody could have anticipated.

Well, it’s over now – and I’ll be happy to be wrong – but don’t stake out you spots for the parade down the Canyon of Heroes in the spring of 2013, folks – I had mine picked out for 1995, and I still haven’t claimed it!

I hope I live long enough to see one more.

  344. Rangers will now throw every available penny at Zach Parise. Ugh

And to have hear that friggin shill Emrick screaming when his beloved Devils eliminated the Rangers…just the worst possible end to a season.

Getting swept by the Kings would have been better than this

  345. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

A 30-goal type player is what this team needs…

You guys remember Big Deal Neil Smith trading away beloved Mike Gartner, and young guns Tony Amonte and Doug Weight for more “proven” vets?? Should Sather have tinkered a bit a-la Big Deal Neil? What would Lou Lamoriello have done with the Rangers this season?

  346. sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  348. Jobi-Wan Kenobi on

ORR, good one. Puck was about 5feet over the glass. He shot that puck hard and you can see fom the angle on the replay it was going way over. I guess just another screw job, huh?

  349. >>NBA players have more education than NHL players. Guaranteed.

Hmm, most of them speak like high school dropouts. What good is an education if you don’t apply it to your every day life?

  350. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

    Hey guys —

Losing this game does NOT make up for what Messier did to those Derbils 18 years ago — it only makes what The Captain did only more legendary.

  351. Great year for the blog, Carp……the only place to go for Ranger talk. Thanks, man.

  352. Lou Armadillo would have ruined the organization from top to bottom, Per. He hates the Rangers.

I’m pretty pleased with the job Sather’s done since the lockout, really. Getting us back to the playoffs those first few seasons was important, even if the teams weren’t structured well. He did a much better job of rectifying his errors. And now we’ve got a team that just went to the Eastern Conference Finals. I totally agree with everyone who wants to crucify him for his early years, but I can’t agree with people who want him out now, of all times.

  353. “A 30-goal type player is what this team needs…”

Gaborik scored more than 30…and? They need to keep the young guys…and that includes Dubi and Anisimov.

  354. Awww harsh way to end..and if they had to lose, I’d rather it be at home so they’d be cheered. Proud of the boys!!! Incredible season ?

  355. Wow, much more thoughtful comments than usual. Happy to see it. Special props to Latona and CTO! Most of you, guys, get it!

  356. As I said before Gabby unfortunately is not a playoff material (for comparison: mediocre in regular season Fedo was absolutely a Lion in PO). …and please get rid of MDZ before it’s too late. He is not going to learn and we can’t afford to keep him as a promising one forever with the crucial mistakes he makes, which cost us games. In any action it could be the only one mistake, its repetition is already a choice. And he makes a bad one.
I want to howl at the Moon…and to tear apart ….Damn!!!

  357. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

    Latona —

    Lou Armadillo — Lol!!

I too, have been impressed with Glen. And I’m not second-guessing his judgement to keep a young team together at a critical point in the season.

Going into the playoffs, and through the playoffs, the team as it is structured now, does not have the firepower to keep opposing teams back on their heels. The Devils do. The Caps do. The Penguins do.

This sounds strange, but I think a good offense, especially in terms of puck possession (Devils, Penguins) can make up for a questionable defense. It’s like “time of possession” in football. I dont know if they keep a Time of Puck Possession stat in hockey games, but perhaps they should. And see if and how it correlates with winning hockey games.

  358. Stranger Nation on

Actually they said puck went over Debbies bench. Whatever, doesn’t matter now.

E3 my brutha, you are chronically smoking with Dubi. JR put the d1ck in diction.

Love the way the Rangers didn’t act ol nice in the handshake line and pretend they liked those carcillo sucking mutha byfugleins. Especially Marmy who looked like he needed to squeeze out a Cooke.

Life goes on…and so it goes

  359. umm that post was supposed to end “incredible season” with a heart. no question about it.

  360. Great season. Certainly a growing experience. THe future is bright for this team. Will only be better next year.

Thanks Carp. Really enjoyed reading this site every day.

  361. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

    CCCP —

Right, I should have qualified my statement better…

A RUGGED 30 goal type player is what this team needs. In fact, if Dubinsky could find his 25-goal self again, he may have made a big difference this year.

  362. Jobi-Wan Kenobi on

ORR, it was tough, but n the lousy NBC replay you could see the puck leave the guys stick and he angle of launch. With the velocity the puck was shot at and at the angle it was leaving the stick along from the live play that I replayed with DVR it was apparent it was well over the glass

  363. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

i’m with you Orr — I’m not giving up on Del Z either. Lets get him a regular stay-at-home defense partner (where are you Mr. Sauer Power?) and I think Delzy will be more than fine. He’ll be excellent.

Just as a fan watching on tv I think hank had an injury. He just looked off last three games. Gabby also got run early in ottawa and looked like a shoulder situation. They hard with heart. Great seasons.

  366. Im with ORR. Would I include him in some kind of deal? Yes. He’s not untouchable in my book. But MDZ is no Leetch.

  367. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

    Jobi and Orr —

I just dont think that referee crew had the stones to call a 5 on 3 in the 3rd period of a clinching game in front of the “home” fans.

  368. Jimbo (Win It For TONY!) on

Haven’t felt this bad since what was it, 2006, when Gomez and the NJD eliminated us from the playoffs after Jagr hurt himself trying to hit Gomez?

That was a *terrible* exit, but it was in the first round – but this one is even *worse*, because we could have been playing in the *Stanley Cup Final* series, so NJDs have really, really put it to us, but good.

If only they had recalled Wellman for this game.

if you haven’t already seen it………..find shane doan’s post game conference after Phoenix game 5 loss where he correctly blasts the officiating crew…………… and anybody want to guess who the two referees were???????? Shane is a first class individual and for him to go off like that………….. carp can attest what a great individual Doan is…………….

  371. giving up on MDZ at 21 is moronic. does ZUbov ring a bell???????????

the guy played monster minutes at 21….

gabby and his softness can be mitigated if they had more skilll.. they could play him less etc……

  372. I have no issues with the team as a whole. They played their hearts out all season and made their fans very proud. My disappointment is with a couple of individuals who failed to show up when they were counted on. The “little things” they did in the playoffs just was not big enough to take the team to the Promised Land.

  373. Brutal brutal loss. Perhaps the toughest part of this was the realization that the Devils were the better team. Rangers kept finding a way to grind out wins no matter what and I really believed they’d do the same here, they just didn’t have the personnel in the end.

  374. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

Del Z is not Leetch.. he’s Del Z. I wouldnt give up on him so easily. One player whom I thought played great tonight who I may feel comfortable trading is AA though.

  375. What a great series. What a great year.

Sucks to lose to ‘them’, but what a great step for the organization. If the GM is smart, he keeps listening to other people and builds some depth. Who knows what would have happened if he added a defenseman or two for these playoffs?

Regardless, the future is bright, this is a big leap forward. Great job, Torts. Great job, Torts, with an ;inferior roster. Congrats to one and all, except Sather.

  376. bottom line we need more top 6 forwards not just kids only players with a track record.

i truly think not adding a forward and vet d man at deadline hurt more then anything. and no i dont mean blockbuster like nash.

john scott shouldnt have been all

  377. Torts got everything he could out of the group he had to work with……a lot of young guys are now experienced vets and will be the role models for the next wave of young guys that are coming. The core of this team has changed from where it was at the end of last year. Skill up front has to be better…disappointed that the stars can’t seem to handle the intensity of playoff hockey. This team was a tight group and had character guys, but changes need to be made up front.

  378. Zubov was a star when the Rangers traded him, Del Zotto is still trying to get there. But I think it would be foolish to give up on him now.

  379. Gabby is certainly a wimpy playoff player. Not strong enough to fight off the tight checking in the playoffs and create his own scoring chances. Plus he’s a defensive liability. (See OT goal tonight)

Need to add some scoring punch for next season. Hopefully Srep picks it up in his third season. We need more firepower on the fron end. Trade Gabby. Get Nash and Parise

Defensively with Sauer back (hopefully) and Erixon making the team we will have a solid 3rd pair.

  383. Jimbo (Win It For TONY!) on

Same feeling here, E3 – numb, just totally numb – I really did not expect it to end tonight – not this way.

  384. What also bothers me and make bitter, is the fact, that besides all this well deserved stuff with Rangers ID and character this season, I think that so called stars alignment and good luck was so favorable to our team, except the very last moment…everything worked – it was a excellent chance once in a blue moon…Oh, shiiiiiiit! Don’t want to talk about it anymore. Thank you everyone and Carp in particular for excellent job and feel of fellowship if not a brotherhood. Bow to all participants. My only regret – didn’t drink to oblivion tonight – it would make dark event more bearable.

  385. Gaborik did himself no favors with his performance. Guy is going to get a much shorter leash from Ranger fans next season.

  386. Jobi-Wan Kenobi on

Seems the refs never had the stones to make calls for the rangers. Stepan high stocked leads to goal game 5. Callahan crosschecked down then 5 more times on ice, Devs score less than a minute later. No 5 on 3 on blatant delay of game becaus they don’t feel like it. A years salary says if it were e rangers that call gets made every time. The league is a joke. NBC aren’t thinly new anti-ranger

  387. Per Djoos (Stay thirsty, my friends) on

Beat it back by planning for next year – which comes in 3 months!

Parise? Nash? Big Dman? Puck-moving Dman?

  390. Jimbo (Win It For TONY!) on

Marty aint winning no cup this year.

The LA Kings will be rested. They will look “off” in Game 1, but they will get their legs under them and take over the series. The Derbils now have to deal with Kopitar, Mike Richards, and Jonathan Swift & co.

Great season. Overachieved and showed guts all year through. Proud of their effort.

HOWEVER–squandered a golden opportunity. Were up 2 games to 1 and 6 games from the cup, lost 3 straight and are done to crash out of the playoffs. Fatso outplayed Henrik for the last 3 games. The Devils 4th line killed us and ours contributed very little. We played mostly 4 d-men. Kreider played 9:00 tonight. We had them on the ropes and did not get the job done, and that includes the two $7 Million men on the roster who did squat this round. We were outcoached by DeBoer. Chances are that we don’t get this far next season. Then we will realize what an opportunity we had.

  395. Kreider was one of the better players on the team since he was inserted in the lineup. and one of the most productive. it’s either the beginners luck, or true skill. I tend to believe it’s latter. And that may alter their thinking of who they want to sign this offseason.

  396. Pretty sad when Richard’s best shot on goal in the series was on his own net.

All I wanted was to see them fight hard tonight, win or lose. I thought several players stepped up tonight and in this series and the playoffs. Some did not. I will address some of those players tomorrow. And believe me, I have a lot to say with regards to what should be done with them.

    But thanks anyway.

  402. I think after being pushed so hard in games 1-3 Henk was just mentally exhausted. Same thing happened against the Caps when we were up 3-1 in 09 – he built that lead form us and then just had nothing left. That’s not a knock on him it just is how I see it.

Also we said that this team won so much all year by out working everyone then once the playoffs started everyone works that hard and the teams with more talent go farther. That’s why the Rangers had such a tough time in all three rounds. amazing year. Best I can remember since 97. I had so many awesome nits at MSG. – the opening brawls against the flyers and Devils that always ended in Ranger wins, beating Boston and Pittsburgh, game 5 against the caps, both game sevens. It was just an amazing year to be a Ranger fan. If y are only happy with a Cup then you will be miserable the vast majority of e time no matter who you root for.
