First and foremost, I don’t know what you’ve read or where you read it, but when John Tortorella told the Rangers to get off the ice after a brief up-tempo practice, it was in a very positive tone … he liked the way they went through a quick workout, felt they moved past whatever they were feeling off Game 4, and didn’t need them to show him anymore.
It ABSOLUTELY WAS NOT done in anger, or because he was unhappy with anything. Just sayin’.
Also sayin’ there were about 9,000 media clowns in the lockerroom today, so the audio I got is pretty limited. Hope to put up some printed transcripts later.
And Tortorella was pretty good at the podium today, when asked about what he can do to get his top six scorers going, he said, “Pray.”

sched, an interesting, but flawed, hypothesis. NBC won’t have any primetime crap worth watching during the Final because most of their crap will have had their season finales by the end of this week.
OK, awesome, just posting here to make sure that we are able to carry the momentum from the last post into this post. Carry on…..
that can be done. game to game obviously can’t.
I got Carped!
RE: the schedule from the previous thread:
What no 1:00 Saturday game on June 9th? I was hoping that the NYC NBC affiliate would do 4 hours of Belmont pre race so people in their viewing area COULD NOT WATCH THE GAME.
Yes this happened in Baltimore. WBAL in Baltimore did coverage of the preakness from 1:00 till 6:30 where they compared hats, did tarot card readings, showed the weather, and all the drunks in the infield.
I was all over the WBAL facebook page as were many other Rangers and Devils fans in the area. The only explanation we got was National NBC would not allow them to air the game on their other station, WBAL+. Luckily I have a slingbox set up in the NYC area so I was able to watch the game, but i was furious.
I wonder if that would have happened if the Capitals were still in it.
“I haven’t talked to Rammer”. Yes. Was waiting to hear that. Love it!
Carp, I heard you have allergies like I do. Do you get the daily pollen alert emails? If not, I could send it to you via email.

re your question about rupp on the deboer presser thread, see the same thread and my post at 2:00PM
hi sis!!
Rangers gonna sweeepppp the Jorsey D-Bags..Bada Beep, Bada Boop…Macaroni Sauce….Heeeeeeyyyyy Oooohhhhh…
“Pray”
Haha
That Tortorella…always the comedian.

Rangers gonna sweeepppp the Jorsey D-Bags..Bada Beep, Bada Boop…Macaroni Sauce….Heeeeeeyyyyy Oooohhhhh…
A Perfect example of the type of posts of I was alluding to earlier in the day…....
Prayer is not a strategy or an adjustment by the coaching staff.
Prust sayin.
yeah Wicky
that was the best part!!!
still hoping someone can make a gif of that.
it would be pretty funny.
at that point i wasn’t watching too closely but saw that part
Girardi and MDZ are 1st and 3rd these playoffs for points by a dman.
Richards and Gabby are 2nd and 3rd these playoffs is total sog.
If prayer was not utilized prior then it is both a strategy and an adjustment.
Maybe not a good one, but….
Carpy, I am not asking for your prediction for the next game. I think I know it :))))))
If I was Carp I would say tomorrow’s game is a coin toss, 50/50
I would still have a perfect record if i has stuck with what i believe instead of going with a guess in Game 4. Dammit.
this series is wide open, can go either way easily in 6 or 7. Lundqvist (as always..sigh) will have to be the Rangers best player and will have to steal at least one game probably with a shutout for the rangers to have a shot
Jackwagons still coming out of the woodwork after a loss, I see.
We lose 3-1 Tom or win 2-1 double ot
Carp, email
Carp are you still sticking with Rangers in 6? Also, as each game is its own beast, why do people keep harping on how the Devils played the past four games. Tomorrow’s game has nothing to do with the previous four.
Should’ve pause posting…
It is not like heat become more intense, the closer we are to SC Finals, what keep me out of the kitchen, it was rather unbearable amount of cockroaches which came out from the all slots and holes, with their irrelevant but stinky sounds. Obviously unbeknownst that knowledge (including hockey) is not just transmitted by sex.
Eric, i should ban you for using that filthy “O” word. :)
Carp, in fairness, I come out of the woodwork win or lose.
Additionally, EVERY team has a bad game or two (look at last year’s Bruins and even Tampa in 04). While the Rangers are not dynamic offensively, wouldn’t you all take their defense and goalie in a best of three series?
Carp, funny you should say that about OT. In college I worked in construction. One night I had to stay late and asked my boss about OT. He looked at me and asked “Who taught you that dirty word!?”
Tiki, email.
Nevermind, Carp. Already got yours.
ANF, the Rangers have had 4 bad games that they have been fortunate enough to win two of.
So it’s your turn, tik.
I said at the beginning that the Rangers would win this in 7 and I still believe that. They don’t have the offensive firepower to dominate an opponent, but they have the goalie that will be the difference in the series.
It seems odd hoping for a 10-goal scorer to come back, but I think if Dubi can make it back during this series it will make a difference. Sit Rupp or Mitchell (doesn’t matter which) he’ll make the third/fourth line more competitive.
Zucc, I don’t know. I don’t see Torts having confidence in Zucc enough to put him in this series or the next even if he is medically ready.
I’m glad that the players have gotten past it, but I’m still bummed out!
Yes. Agreed. However, the Devils cannot play any better than they have and the series is still 2-2. I am just saying that anyone who thinks this series is over (from either side) is celebrating a bit too soon.
Exactly, ANF. Exactly, Doodie.
responded.
What will it take to get the five goals in one game Gaborik on the ice? He’s had some really good shifts throughout the playoffs but he’s been almost invisible this entire series and for long stretches in general. Just imagine how dangerous this team would be if they could score some goals.
I don’t think that the series is over, but I think the Rangers need to be better if they expect to win two more games.
carp
no email, but noogies
My brother is pissed at me for coming up to NY midplayoffs. He’s not even answering my calls or responding to texts. Ahh, superstitions, how I hate them so.
Did the Kings win the Stanley Cup yet?
Did anyone go to the Garden for the viewing party last night….result of the game aside, the viewing party was very disappointing.
ANF, why don’t you describe it in more detail for us?
I can’t tell if Peter TheBore looks more like a drunk Kevin Spacey or more like Ross Matthews.
Whatever happened in the previous four games has no impact on what will happen in the next three. All the Rangers should know is they haven’t played their best yet. And they still have 2 home games left. Nobody said this one would be easy, and I do not believe they underestimated the Devils. I fully expect tomorrow to be their best game in this series so far. NO MOMENTUM, NO FATIGUE
Carp, you’re right about the noise in the room. It sounded like someone was drilling a root canal when Hank was talking.
PS. Do you guys EVER work? WTB!
Well, Jimbo, it was promoted as an evening of being able to interact with Rangers alumni (VBK, graves and Beuke). However, the only people who were able to interact with them were the full season ticket holders who were allowed to skate on the ice for 1 hour prior to the viewing party. The rest of the fans were in the stands. There was NO interaction between the alumni and the fans. Contrary to what was promoted, there were no games or prizes. Indeed, the only prizes given out seemed to be pre-determined and awarded to the full season ticket holders. Further, they put the game on the Gardenvision, but it was difficult to see. There was hardly, if any food available. Th garden would not let people go into the 300’s (where they would be able to see the game better). The viewing parties at the Ziefield Theater (though smaller) were a lot more fun. I do not believe there was any more than 5,000 people there last night.
I’m backing Carp’s “no momentum” stance…
In a hockey, experience is a whole bunch of very valuable knowledge about what you’re NOT supposed to do in a situations which will never repete it selves.
Thank you, ANF – that is quite surprising. Especially your estimation of the crowd – maybe it was not publicized properly.
I’m not surprised to hear about the lack of accessibility, save for the season-ticket holders, though. I am surprised that many of the concession stands weren’t actively open.
Sounds like it was poorly planned and publicized to me.
Has Callahan seen his daughter yet?
No problem, Jimbo. Yeah, it seemed to really fly under the radar. I was looking forward to getting some autographs from the alumni as I became a fan during the 89-90 season when I was about 12-13 years old. Also, they conducted the event as if a real game was taking place on the ice. John Amirante was even performing the anthem live. My wife (who is a casual fan) looked at me like I was crazy for even going….
Captain ilb, I’m hoping that you’re spot-on with your predictions. I was feeling pretty lousy after last night’s loss, but I’m still hoping that our guys have another couple of wins in them!
I’ll be here rooting them on tomorrow evening! Nothing is easy for this team!
PS. Do you guys EVER work? WTB!
...................
Addressed this earlier, Ilb.
I hear you, ANF – I might have attended if I had heard about it early enough before-the-fact.
Geez, other cities have viewing parties outdoors where many thousands of people attend – sounds like the Garden’s publicity department was caught napping on this event!
Ilb,
Time for a jersey dinner…? What’s the misses in the mood for?
And by “misses” i mean #30 for the Devs.
Is that the sun. Clear skies and a 100 percent chance of a ranger victory. Ah yes pollyana pbr is back. It only took his one devil fan colleague at work to bring me back. Hubris!!!! Go get em!
I guess that it was a pipe-dream of mine that Kovy might get a call from Shanny regarding that stomach-spear to Cally last night.
Looks like Shanny still has his “Devil Goggles” on – in reference to his comments going back to earlier series where the NYR fans had some complaints about his decisions.
Let’s stay positive. The way this team has played and conducted itself, they deserve our unconditional support. Remember, this is not like 94, where based upon the age of some vets, it was a one-shot deal. The Rangers will only get better (though win or lose addign some more offensive talent, if possible wouldn’t hurt)
True Blue- funny you mentioned….NJ players are often seen in Chatham, there is a famous Italian place….Gotta talk to mrs ilb, see if she in the mood :-)
Food poisoning included in the hippocratic oath, I think , ilb.
True Fans, I mean…And, yeah, I saw your post. Some clerkships are created to get a little rest, eh…
ilb,
Hopefully that restaurant is *in*famous after you visit it tonight and cast aspersions upon any Swamp Rat attendees..
“Swamp Rat” – sounds like a main course for debbies patrons.
Ilb,
You got this, i have faith.
We will be praying for your successful return.
Which reminds me, Latona…I believe my successful dinner at Il Mulino before Game 7 against Washington earned me a few lunch points, don’t you think?
Should one just let an oak tree grow out of a fosythia bush? Isn’t it metaphorical of the magic that ranger d and goaltending has transformed this team? I say I let it grow unabated until the cup comes up broadway…..next month.
Just a couple of observations on last nite… Is it really our game plan to MAKE Marty play the puck on every dump in? Sure looked like it- virtually no soft dump ins to the trapezoid- maybe Torts feels he’s vunerable- not arguing, just asking… Didn’t really like the manufactured drama in the third period by us- because I thought it signified a coach that is worried about his teams “compete level” due to fatigue… That first goal really killed us- because it was such a crappy goal- because the Devils had gone quite a while without scoring- because it made us sag (prior to the goal nothing much of anything really happened, except a number of icings)- because the Devils knew they wouldn’t be shutout again… Hard to decide which is worse: losing to the Devils or having to watch the game(win or lose) on NBC-brutal, embarrassing coverage. Here’s hoping the future holds an option for pay-per-view different feeds…. I thought the Rangers were out of gas BEFORE the playoffs started- so I’m certainly not going there again….Please, please shoot the puck at Marty- if we ever got as many good chances in a game as the Devils do “I predict the Rangers are gonna fill the net tonite, Marv.” Ah, where’s the Big Whistle when you need him?
Carp still has a pretty damn good record in predicting Rangers games in this year’s playoffs. Kind of amazes me how he can read the team like this.
Not that what I say matters, but I could definitely see them coming out hard and disciplined tomorrow. Just gotta get the first goal.
The Garden better be absolutely rocking tomorrow night. No fake noise, please. We can do it ourselves
Debbies’s Zajec, btw, in russian – wild rabbit. Another dish to chew and swallow…
I think it’s Ukrainian name in origin, 4ever…
Matty,
It’s because he doesn’t believe in momentum … literally!
I use to believe in momentum. Truly.
Carp has taught his ways. Wise, he is.
Leave Zherdev out of this guys.
Could you imagine if this team had a half-way decent Zherdev still on it?! Or a Cherapanov?
So close, yet still so far …
Yeah, ilb. Spelling slightly different, but meaning the same.
Nice to see much calmer posters today and more optimism – our guys deserved it.
Sure thing, ilb. What Caps did you dispatch of? I’ll give you the sum total of their numbers in lunch points.
Ha! Brooks Laich, Joel Ward, Karl Alzner and Braden Holtby
Speaking of optimism…I myself am a scared optimist, with kind of optimism – when you’re not washing the dishes tonight, hoping that you’ll be more wishful to do that next morning…but optimist nevertheless.
Latona, he doesnt deserve Holtby’s points, because he didnt recognize him. With all the NBC shots of him, not sure how. Surprisingly, he recognized Ward. haha
He recognized Ward, huh Ilb?! Lol
I still jinxed him, Tiki!
Man, I need some food, havent eaten all day, waiting for Mama to get home from work. Oy!! I need some sushi!
Yes, you did ilb. Yes, you did. :)
I dunno how much of an accomplishment recognizing Ward is, but recognizing Holtby might have been difficult considering how often they showed his parents in his stead.
Oh I am an optimist through and through. Besides these guys have been clutch all year. I lost it game five against Ottawa game six against the caps and last night. I doubted them. I never have up on them. And tomorrow I will be there full throat rooting them On. And they will win. Because this season every time the doubt crept in they gave. The disaster in at Louis….the miracle in Phoenix. Marty shuts us out 1-0 at the garden….henrik shuts them out 2-0 the next time they meet a week later. No reason to lose faith. Start strong. Get the first goal. And tomorrow will be the kings third shut out of the series.
May I suggest wraparounds? It’s worked on Marty in 94 and 97. McD almost scored on him that way.
Tiki, see if Stanley shares her food with you, you seem to be on good terms at the moment.
Where is CCCP? I miss his conventional wisdom dearly. ...is his stockpile of cursing’s run short and dried? I doubt it.
Do you think we could get all of the fans on ice level near the goal to hold up burgers and pizza while Marty is at their end of the ice? Maybe trow an occasional slice on the ice? Might get him off of his game.
CCCP is in Paris, 4ever…
Youre so funny, ilb… They both leave their food unattended, but Im partial to dog treats, not cat food.
Oh, my daughter left for Paris just yesterday and was bitterly complaining that 5 hours difference will force her watch live hockey streams at 1 to 3 o’clock in the morning.
Excellent idea, Rangers West – it would be even better if fans could manage to get food aromas past the glass and into the rink area where Fatso is tending goal – it would distract him so totally that some of our non-productive forwards might even be able to put the puck past him.
Hell, with enough food smells piped into his area, we could even score on icings!
4ever, when do I get to see you again?
But, ilb, (thinking about CCCP),
do you agree, that there is no one high-minded, sublime, cleanest and brightest thought in existence, which any Russian speaking human couldn’t express in a dirtiest, meanest cursing form. An Art, or bad, but funny habit?
Can Gabby, Richards and Cally get some pizza and Popeye’s-scented after shave to splash on themselves before the game?
Tiki,
...the answer my friend is blowing in the wind, an answer is blowing in the wind…” or something like that. Wind name is ilb.
The language within the language…
“Is Paris Burning?”
Tiki,
jokes aside, I would be delight.
Next time we dine together, ilb, Ill bring my favorite bacon doggie treats and sneak a lil into your food. Deal?
4ever, so would I. I miss that face and smile of yours, very sexy!
PBR where are you sitting tomorrow night? I will be in sec 114 screaming my brains out.
JR – “the rangers’ intensification must be amplitated in game 5”
Be careful with those cats, Tiki – they may not appreciate sharing their food with you! ;-D
Where is CCCP!
Lol we stand behind 408. I go with a season ticket holder whose seats are in the last row. I am not allowed to sit. I will need binocs to see your section but the devils will hear all of us nonetheless.
JR – “whoever wins game 5 can externalize the series”
PARIS, FRANCE, LW. That’s whereCCCPis.LOL Jimbo. I have an understanding with cats and dogs. They know Im one of them.
>>>CCCP is in Paris, 4ever…
Not Paris Hilton? I thought he was auditioning her for his stable of Brooklyn Pimpettes.. ;-)
JR – “the intrepidatory nature of game 5 ambulates everyone’s excitedability”
OK, Tiki – I also have an understanding with cats, but that doesn’t mean that they will let me eat their food! The ones I’m familiar with even swat at their compadres occasionally when their food is being eaten… ;-)
JR – “at some point, the rangers’ shot blockers must numbate the pain”
Jimbo, he IN not ON…
Pardon my English.LOL.
hahaha, Jimbo. I was trying to say that Im one of them, meaning Im an animal too. :)
Seriously, though, when I first got my girl Tiki from the shelter, she was abused and didnt eat her food. So I was worried she’d be malnourished and get sick, so Id put her food in my mouth, put my saliva on it, and then put it in her bowl, and she’d eat. Thats how I first got her to eat food. Yipppeee!! See, Im an animal.
JR – “the therapeutic side effects of losing game 5 can overwhelm a team”
PBR. I had seats in 412 last row.The renovation screwed up my view long story short they moved me downstairs this season.Next year I will be back upstairs with my blueseat brothers.Except it will now be called sec 221.Lets Go Rangers
JR – “that’s what always the playoffs bring”
>>>Yipppeee!! See, Im an animal.
Errah…errah…well yes, Tiki – I agree – you’re something! Hahahaha!!! (just kidding!)
E3- don’t you feel bad for JR? He is so disunderstood…
JR – “speaking parabolically, the winner of game 5 can circulate the series”
Actually, that’s a sweet story, Tiki – despite the “ick factor” of it!! ;-D
‘Tis okay Jimbo! You are firetruckin awesome!! So u can be straight w me anytime. I am something and I know its not human!
PBR, is that Dainius Hubrus you mentioned earlier?
Nobody else is p***ed off about Kovalschmuck’s spear of Captain Cally, I guess?
I tried string beans, chicken grease, carrots, wet food, moistening it with water, nothing worked.
Ilb – JR is as good as it gets…absolutely brilliant!!!!
>>>I am something and I know its not human!
+1!!
Cheap supermarket tuna, Tiki – the store-brand – the stinkier to better – it almost always works!
Jimbo, if I were you guys, I wouldn’t be pissed about the spear as much as I’d be pissed the Rangers didn’t sign him.
>>>Jimbo, he IN not ON…
Pardon my English.LOL.
Same difference!! ;-D
Jimbo, bet you anyone who has dogs has eaten a few of those snacks inadvertently..Gotta tell you, it sure tastes better than that tuna you mentioned….
JR – ” Jim Ramsey is as good at doctorforcating his team injuries this season as anyone in the medicating industry”
Carp – have you ever reportificated 3 straight game 7’s?
Ouch, Carp!!
I really never wanted him on our team because he already had a reputation for being a prima-donna, moody bastage who often bailed out on his team – and I still think he is.
I sure would like his scoring ability on my team, however. :-(
You are correct, ilb – in my younger days, when we had dogs, I occasionally would munch on a Milk-Bone, just to see my dog’s reaction to me doing it! ;-)
JR – “in the eventuality of a Rangers/kings final – my unanimous choice to win the cup are the rangers”
JR -”if Hank plays a pefected game, the rangers will win game 5”
JR – “from a questionality standpoint, the rangers must obtain more scorability”
JR – “in the playoffs, both teams are playing their upmostest to win”
JR – “the goalie position is the individuality that can speculate a winning team”
Wow! That’s a stream of confidence…
JR – “the difference between winning and losing cannot be overshadowed”
I wish Rangers offence has your productivity, E3!
Quiz. Who is an angriest poster on this blog?
JR – “whoever can manage the ebbs and flows of the periodicity in game 5, should win”
408 crew claim they invented tge banned “larry” chant.”. Funny they all love the guy and hang with him before the game. As I understand it the bleak years the 408!guys would take out their frustrations on Larry who felt compelled to dance despite the impending losses. It all got blown out of proportion but everyone understands it to be a bit inappropriate and frankly offensive. Oh well.
Dainus hubrus it will be when boyler runs him into next week at the garden tomorrow! Bring it!!
I know for smarter an dumbest we would have a tremendous competition, but in “nice and calm” categories I expect long, hard look…
4ever – can you imagine learning the english language by only listening to JR?
JR – “the speculatory analysis is unifyingly meaningless this time of the year”
I don’t care for the dancing Larry thing either.Defiantly thought the chants about him were hysterical.I know one of them was posted on you tube. Not politically correct.but still pretty funny.
E3,
BTW, that was a way for me to learn – like 1000 x JR + many different others.
Dancin’ Larry = The Rangers version of Fireman Ed.
Dang! I missed good stuff today?!
“NHL Network, the League’s 24-hour, all-access pass to the most comprehensive hockey coverage…” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!
LGR!
I still do, even on this blog. I have to tell you, some of you guys, are just priceless in this department.
Isn’t the argument Kovalchuk vs. Gaborik? Who did better against the Rangers – I bet that’s the one we got!
Back to Torts answer: just to pray…(like nothing else left).
Every time I remember that God is Just, I feel terribly sorry for this Rangers team.
Another thing – I love them to tears…literally.
JR – “the bottom of the line is the game 5 winner”
A belated (and very amateur) Brodeur photoshop:
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/1479/martyballet.jpg
Don’t beat yourself up, LW. You’re a EuroPansy. That’s a nice try for a EuroPansy!
do the yotes make this interesting and make kings sweat some?
JR – “the possibility of the game 5 winner is a near certainty”
JR – “the calming factor in any game is always an expected result”
JR – “the belatedness of game 5 wont matter once the puck drops”
JR – “the rangers are relying on hank’s translucent ability to stop every shot”
My I cannot sPell. I am like the anti-fran
Good 1 LW3H
hope so eric.
LMAO, LW…
eric by any chance did you call wfan this morning?Beningo & Roberts their was a eric caller this am to talk about the Rangers.
looks like Mike Sullivan will be the next head coach in Calgary. Torts will have to get himself a new righthand man.
Sean Avery for alternate coach
Avery would give you the shirt off his back.
Maybe we can actually find a guy to help us with our power play.
Obviously if you define momentum as guaranteeing victory in the next game then of course there is none.
But in the true sense of the word there absolutely is momentum in this series. You don’t think the Devils are carrying the confidence edge they have from playing the way they’re playing into the next game, win or lose?
Of course it doesn’t mean they autmoatically win the next game. But in terms of establishing and maintaning a pattern, a confidence, and edge, how can you say that doesn’t exist in this series?
I called the rangers in 7 but I’m going to revise that and call it in 6 for whoever wins tmorrow night.
PBR
were you using ILB’s iphone for your 7:05 post?
I’m sure it’s been said before but I don’t have the time to reread all the comments from the very beginning of today: I know the Rangers haven’t won 2 consecutive games in what will be more than 11 games come tomorrow….. but can they at least win 2 PERIODS in row?!!!!
BTW: Today is the last day to vote for King Henrik in the semifinals against Pekka Rinne for the cover of the EA NHL13 video game. Make those votes count!!
http://covervote.nhl.com/:b=firefox12/#/ballot
I believe I just learned html. I didn’t put that last part of my comment in bold. lol
Mrs. Manny is going on right now about what a difference SEAN AVERY would make and how he isn’t afraid of the Devils because he doesn’t care if he wins or loses. Not a bad point.
I personally thought Sully would be great in Edmonton, although they don’t agree.
Unfortunately, Manny, he also doesn’t care if the team wins or loses.

Kopitar’s just a great player.
Yeah, he’s pretty damn good. He’s only 24. I thought he was older.
“The Rangers won 51 games, won the East, reached the Eastern Conference final, are two wins from the Cup finals and six wins from the Stanley Cup, despite having only five or six players who are any good at all, and a goalie, and a dolt for a coach. Now I get it.”
Bout time you got it, Carp. But make that a ‘sometimes dolt’ for a coach.
They wouldn’t be in the semis without Torts, but he still loves to sabotage his own team at critical moments. Like when he benched Kreider, now clearly his best & most consistent offensive performer. Or last year, when he voted to demote Zuc and make Matt Gilroy a forward! Or should he keep Zuccarello in the press box for Game 5 while his team gets one decent scoring chance every period and a half.
Because we must grind grind grind, even when we can’t.
You might remember I was villified here for daring to suggest this team had little to no offense, called all sorts of names. Guess I’m still crazy.
Except here’s that same coach now ‘praying for offense’ in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Semis.
I don’t think anyone deserved a suspension from last night’s game for anything at anytime at all during the entire game. However I just saw this from a poster on a NYP article about the lack of suspensions stemming from the game. It involves the “slashing”call on Kovalchuk for the spear. I checked my copy of the rule book and it’s spot on. I thought the Rangers got the benefit of a huge amount of non-calls last night even considering the amount they were called for. But missing the spearing call is inexcusable. I’m guessing they didn’t call it spearing because of all the extras that come with it. Read on:
All please read NHL Rule 62 on “Spearing”.
Rule 62 – Spearing.
62.1 Spearing – Spearing shall mean stabbing an opponent with the point of the stick blade, whether contact is made or not.
62.2 Double-minor Penalty – A double-minor penalty will be imposed on a player who spears an opponent and does not make contact.
62.3 Major Penalty – A major penalty shall be imposed on a player who spears an opponent (see 62.5).
62.4 Match Penalty – A match penalty shall be imposed on a player who injures an opponent as a result of a spear.
62.5 Game Misconduct Penalty – Whenever a major penalty is assessed for spearing, a game misconduct penalty must also be imposed.
62.6 Fines and Suspensions – There are no specified fines or suspensions for spearing, however, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).
If the Kings win tonight, do you think that they would loan us Kopitar for a couple of games?
Morris with a dumb penalty
That was me, Evrockriser – everybody watching the game saw that spear, but somehow all the officials on the ice missed it – ridiculous!
Maybe the NHL figures that if they let the Debbies win, that they won’t need to financially support the bankrupt sad excuse for a franchise…
Remember, Jimbo, according to that idolator Tom Gulitti, it was an apparent spear.
Kopitar is amazing…love that guy
LOL! Howser is BACK!
Yes, Latona, the idolator that we are compelled to have among us here on RR – maybe if Cally exposed his gut for all the officials to see where the stick poked him? Would that have helped, perhaps?
Will Zucc play tomorrow? I flippin’ hope and pray he will!
2-1 Yotes
2-1 Desert Dogs…
I’m hoping too, NYR!
‘Yooooooooootes!
Brown hit the post…wow.
Pray
Screw Kopitar Jimbo! We have John Scott. The secret weapon.
we are all praying to the Lord of the Rink
Man, Kopitar is amazing. Best player in the game. And, get this, Marion, he plays two way hockey. He even checks!!!
I would gladly welcome him to NYC once we beat his arse in the SC Finals.
It would be nice to see Zucc play simply because he’s not been seen by the opposition during this series. That might be a plus for us.
I think Quick pulled a scorpion save earlier in the game.
Yeah, John Scott – why exactly did we get him? What was the point of that exercise?
Phoenix=playing desperate with a good goalie.
We could use some of that.
Also: the Hobbit Wizard is an exceptional passer of the puck. That could really help us counter a forecheck.
John Scott was brought in to play fourth line with Wellman. Prust saying.
2-2
Jimbo: once he fought someone! Domination.
Jeez! LA again…..they’re not going away..
Rod, does this mean you were lurking? I think it does.
Regards,
ducky
Thanks, Manny – I had forgotten that – I’m getting old, you see…. ;-D
Ah, there’s that Wellman character again..
“Also: the Hobbit Wizard is an exceptional passer of the puck. That could really help us counter a forecheck.”
Indeed, Manny. There would also be immediate, noticeable improvement on the power play…
What is Daryl Sutter doing being a hockey coach?
Does he really say anything in the locker room or does he curl into a corner and suck his thumb?
“eh…ah…oh…he skated good…”
Sure coach.
It just ticks me off that we don’t seem to be able to get free enough to pepper Fatso with a lot of shots on goal – he has not looked very steady, and I’m sure that if we could get some shots on him that he would give up some goals. He sits back there in the “rocking chair” with very little pressure put on him, and all his shills idolize him when he may only need to make 15 easy saves in a game.
How does someone who can’t communicate elevate to this level? Do the guys really listen to him? Or, do they just shrug their shoulders and listen to each other?
How can anyone listen to him? WTF?
Kings 3-2! Ouch
Richards scored twice on the same play!
Oy!! Kings..
and they’re 15 weak saves at that…..from the angles.
he was a good goalie, but he was in the right place, right time for 20 years.
Matty, whatever he is mumbling incoherently to them…it’s working….
Richter was always better and faced 3 times the amount of shots Brodeur did
“shebadedba…scored…a goal…mumblygobledeegoop”
he can’t be married. who could live with ‘that’?
But he is a great spokesman for Gary Bettman’s NHL. Speak of dilution of coaching talent.
Yes! Hobbit Wizard on PP!
Vibin’
3-3!
Yandle Time!
WOWOWOWOWOW!!!!
That goal should definitely count
Yup…good goal…no kick….great pass by Pyatt….
What say you now, Sutter?
“shebadabeba….damn….shlabatatta goal….”
Good point.
Exactly, Matty! If Richter and Fatso were swapped early in their careers, Richter would be the one with all the NHL goaltender records now – he probably would have won a ton of cups with those trapping bastages in front of him..
This is the way Phoenix played agains Chicago. They kept coming.
I actually like the howl they have at the Yotes games but they overdo it way too much.
Awesome impression, Matty.
And if “native son” Richter would have played for Philthy, they would have a few more cups, too.
No doubt. And I’ll tell you, Jimbo, I have been to the first 2 home games. Brodeur is so much weaker then Henrik, it’s silly. All we have to do …just have to do….all we have to doooo…is shoot the puck and bet in front.
He is not total swiss cheese, but he has many holes. We can so beat this guy.
Sutter was gonna call a time out but he had nothing to say.
Amen, Matty. We can beat that fat ….....
We can also beat this Quick guy. His goaltending style suits is better than Marty. Our guys hate to shoot.
Do you know how many times our porous, offensive rushing defense would let look out shots go by them…..
“Hey Mike….LOOKOUT”
His knees must be replaced already. Instead, Fatty still hasn’t broken a sweat.
Think of this…remember last year when MacLean was coach early in the season. He tried to open up the Devils? What was Marty’s goals against average then? Huh? He was losing games 5, 6 goals given up. THE SYSTEM made the man.
BEAT THAT FAT! BEAT THAT FAT!
Marty is at the end of the string – you can tell by all the “whale flopping” he does now – he was a very good goalie back in the day, but the ultra-defensive style of the team he played for had an enormous effect on his career statistics.
Matty, it has been obvious to all (except for the professional shills like Resch) as to which goalie is the better one in this series – Hank has had to stand on his head to keep us in games, and Maaaarty has just needed to plop his fat lump of a body between the pipes.
Someone compared the careers of Patrick Roy, with Montreal, and Dancing Marty.
Roy faced 2 times the about of shots!! something crazy like 65000 to 35000. Don’t quote me, but it was silly.
Dancing Marty of the Rockettes with the High Leg Lift when Swatted by Rupp was lucky he was drafted by a trapping team.
I how they overdo the howl. Probably annoys the crap out of the other team.
Amen, Matty. You should write this into a book. Marty is a product of horrible, boring and illegal hockey.
great pace in this game. up and down they trade chances
Agreed, Jimbo. Henrik has a much smaller margin of error. Last night, a ‘flukey’ not so great goal and it cost him.
Tomorrow, he knows he has to be near perfect.
Lol, iManny!! That he is…...
So, the storybook ending to his career is near. He is 40, isn’t he? He really wants this, doesn’t he? He and Henrik compete big time against each other, don’t they?
Rangers in 7. We win game 7 and Dancing Marty retires.
Poetic.
There you go:
JR—“Darryl Sutter scares you into submissiveness..or else you start playing hard”...
Eric, when you watch these teams, do you think the Rangers or Debbies can play with them?
A Dozen Donuts…
A bucket of KFC…
2 Liter Bottle of Cream Soda….
Because it’s the Cup…
Did these idiots actually say that last night’s NJ performance was an “offensive explosion”!?
“I think I will retire to Bedlam”.......
Matty: what about this? Rangers in 6. We celebrate on their home ice. Marty retires.
Manny, I would LOVE to see that happen!! With the Ranger fans in the crowd howling with delight in the background as he skulks off the ice for the final time in a Debbies uniform…
Perfect, Manny!!!
Woooooooo hooooooo
US in 6!!!!!!!!!
Looking forward to this third period, although I think we all know what the script will be.
Prove us wrong Phoenix!
It was funny how the fawning reporters in the interview room after the game last night were congratulating DaBore for “figuring out Lundquist” early in the game for the first goal – all because a shot that weaved its way through the legs of half the players on the ice managed to elude a hopelessly screened Hank – that was sure some master strategy!
Are the only reporters that are Debbie fans (like the azzwipes in the Twitter feed above) get to ask questions of DaBore?
Their second goal involved some talent. Lot’s of help by MDZ and even Girardi, but a nice offensive play. Their first goal was flukey. There were 8 guys in the line of it. Seeing eye shot.
Jonathan Trick
Nice save.
OMG
Didn’t that Yote just shoot it into his chest, or are my eyes playing tricks on me?
If Doughty played for the Rangers, Shanny would have called a review already.
yea
Wow! 5 on 3 for the Yotes. Huuuge!
5-on-3
Huge PP for the Desert Dogs!
dunno
Wow….that was another level of dumb right there…
LOL!! That howl is sooo loud!
Very surprised, compared to 1994, tickets for tomorrow night’s game are pretty cheap, all things considered
Wow! What a TERRIBLE penalty on Hanzal!
Rally killer.
Interference on a 5 on 3. How stupid!
By the way, check out the gonzagas behind Tippet. Prust sayin’!
i have never seen a team on a 5-3 pass the puck behind the goal line like PHX just did
As in that was dumb penalty for him to commit. Right call, obviously.
ORR…..NICE CATCH!!!!
That Pheonix 5 on 3 was so unique and intriguing… going to see that a lot in the future I believe?
Come on Yotes!
@@
Do these announcers really have to tell us who got away “with one” over and over again?
No team with Roszival can win a cup. I still hold by that comment.
The Yotes are trying for Tony…even though he wants the Rangers…...go Yotes!!!!!! See, anything can happen….LGR!!!
Matty go with my plan: mute the television when the Rangers aren’t playing and throw on some music. I might suggest some Phil Collins Against All Odds.
>>>ORR…..NICE CATCH!!!!
Absolutely!!! Gonzagas!!
iManny, with the good idea!! I’d rather have the “oooooooooohhhhhhhaaaaahhhhhhhhh’s” of Emrick than these guys.
I’m surprised that such nice juicy gonzagas can exist out there in the desert – I thought that they would dry out from the intense heat!
And it is hot out there…...pun intended.
Mama…if they win, it’s for Tony, Mama!!!!!
Is that you, Mama – or is it Tiki in disguise again!?
Haha yea,
Scott Hamiltoner Panger is rough.LOL!!!!! Hamilton = Panger
Wow, a finesse player back checking? This is novel. Must be a western conference thing.
Do you guys think Panger can do a back-flip with goalie equipment on?
how many times have folks commented that
they’ve commented highly about the play of
Rozy?
and boy does it hurt me that we weren’t able to get dustin brown or shane doan.
(doubt we had a much of a chance but i can dream, can’t i?
which i should do soon
early work day!!!)
Yes! Panger can do it all. What would Daren Panger do!? Blame Canadia!!!
Korpedo…gotta bury that, bro…right off the noogie
Panger needs to replace Edzo! Doctor Emick & Panger would make one noisy duo!
LOL @ “down goes Frasier”
Another dumbass penalty by Morris! Wow!
We’re going to the 4th period!!!! And, there no tattoos or 30-second violations!!
Well, I messed that up…I meant NO 3-second violations…
It’s late, NYR. No one noticed. At least, if we did, we sympathized.
BONUS hockey!
Derek Morris = Phoenix’s Bill Buckner if LA cans a goal here. What a stupid penalty. Take the hit, softee
It looked like the yotes were fixin’ to give up the series-winner at the end of that period…
Kings score on the PP, and wait for the Rangers
Ya, I think so, too. I just hope, if it happens, no one tells Mama.
It would be nice if ‘Yotes could win for Tony and Mama!!!!
I really want the ‘Yotes to win in 3OT or maybe 5OT. That would be nice for us (should we move on)
Morris = Softer than Jumbo Joe Thornton
Another “got away with one”” there…
“they” are getting away with a “lot”.
PHX fans throw their hands up calling for a penalty everytime two players get tied up
Rangers fans do the same thing…
LA, gets “away with one there”
Well, a missed high stick, and a missed delay of game. Hell of a job by these officials. Poor Yotes.
maybe im just not paying attention to the crowd when the rangers are playing
LA does not look so invincible now. This is nice to see.
You don’t have to pay attention, you just hear them whining, non stop. Every teams fans do it. Pretty much all the same.
If I had to single out a group, it would have to be the Habs fans. They cry aboot every little thing.
Finally a PP for the Yotes
well they got that one
that was interference.shut up
yea, they did
What bull carcillo
I’m surprised they didn’t give Doughty unsportsmanlike minor for that. They’ve called that on a lot less.
Sutter with some words of wisdom from the bench:
“uh….shebadabadogee….go”
Thanks, coach.
LMAO @ that dive by Roszival!
pitiful. Phoenix got “away with one there”
Doughty can’t catch a break! Haha!
well thats one linesman not making it to the stanley cup finals
LA could go empty net here. When was Phoenix’s last SOG?
Wow! Brown could be suspended for that!
ROsi’s out.
man, that’s a tough non call.
Kings win
Wow!
Suspend Dustin Brown!!!! 5 Games!
The refs really screwed the Yotes! I have to say
What an odd finish, eh boys? Let’s hope Dusty Brownstone gets a hefty suspension. He won’t obviously.
Let’s Go Rangers!!!
Good for Doan & Hanzal. Giving Brown some words.
I would have wiped my ass with my hand before shaking his hand, but that’s just me.
i love it. eff Blowsival. go Kings !!!
Doan was pissed at Brown!! Damn!
Oh well…..wild way for a game and a series to end..
these guys get a week off.
Sad ending for the Yotes, but the Kings really took it to them in the OT – and why shouldn’t they have? A team with a big lead in the series can “”go for broke”” and try to end the series..
How about that….Dustin Penner….the hero….
Two years in a row, my Cup final prediction is half right!
nORRstradamus
Doan and Whitney. Good for them. vachon stay classy.
Yeah, in some sick way, I guess it makes that horrible trade worth it, huh?
Look, I didn’t like Rozsival as a Ranger, but I’m not gonna be happy aboot what happened to him. I feel bad for the guy.
Oops, the moving trucks seen outside the arena.
Arriving At the airport on route to JFK from tel aviv any minute and should get home. Just in time for the game.
Let’s go rangers and according to the coyotes radio brown should be unavailable for game 1 but who knows
Rangers/Kings would be so cool. Opened up the season in Sweden against them, and now have a chance to finish against them!
People have to be some sick individuals to actually get joy in seeing people hurt.
I feel bad for Rozi – but I don’t think it was a deliberate intent to injure him..
Brown made some new enemies around the league with that hit probably. There’ll be more people cheering for the Rangers now. (note the fact that i do not think the Devils will win our series)
Yes, ORR!!! We MUST win our series now to end the season like it began, with these 2 teams!
you are right. it was a thigh collision, a charley horse
Wow, what an officiating debacle …or… just another night of NHL hockey. How many blown calls were there in the ot? Actually, its too bad…because this would have been a fitting end to the cup final. Embarrassing- lets just make believe it didn’t happen. Congratulations to the Kings.
I counted two blown calls for the Yotes, before a makeup on a borderline penalty. Then the linesman blew that offsides call on Doughty, and then they blew the Brown kneeing penalty, which at the very least should have been a minor.
Yeah, but you can’t criticize them, or YOU’LL get fined. LOL! Crazy.
I really didn’t see what Phoenix was disputing on the final goal – what did the Kings do that was in question?
You think Brown threw a knee there, ORR? I really didn’t see it that way..
LOL @ JR and Millberries
>>Doan was pissed at Brown!! Damn!
Doan might have been singing, “All I see turns to Brown, as the sun burns the ground.”
His leg was extended, Jimbo. Looked like a knee to me. Waiting for an HD clip on youtube. I don’t expect a suspension though. I mean, it’s Shanny we’re talking aboot.
Correct, ORR – Shanny only had eyes for us, it seems..
has eyes, that is….
Holy crap you guys stay up late!
new post
