Rangers-Capitals Game 2.
I’m speculating, or taking an educated guess here, that Brian Boyle will play. Actually, it’s a little bit more than speculation or a guess. Unless Boyle isn’t feeling well this evening, or during or after warmups.
That would mean that Steve Eminger comes out … unless he replaces Stu Bickel. I think Bickel stays in, though. Brandon Dubinsky did not skate again today and remains out.
The Capitals “demoted” Alexander Semin to the fourth line for practice yesterday, but I believe he will be up on one of the top two lines at the start of Game 2, if not at some point in the first period. That was Dale Hunter sending a message to his enigmatic forward. Maybe he should have just cross-checked him from behind after a whistle.
Here’s my story on faceoffs from The Journal News and LoHud.com today.
FWIW (which is nothing), the Rangers in Game 2s—well, they lost Game 2 against Ottawa, and lost Game 2 against Washington last year, and won their only Game 2 in 2009, were 1-1 in Game 2s in ‘08 and ‘07. Lost Game 2 in ‘06 … won all three Game 2s in ‘97 (notice the gap between playoffs), went 1-1 in Game 2s in ‘96 and ‘95, and won all four Game 2s in ‘94.
I still think it will be 1-1 after Game 2. Sorry in advance.
By the way, The New Yorker made mention of our use of “Blockness Monster.” How awesome is that?

That period had more action than the entire Game 1 … and I know you guys judge everything by the score … the Rangers were the better team in that period, but made two huge mistakes.
Grabby, bashing Hank for that reason is totally allowed. He’s always been poor at handling the puck. He either needs to stop, or somebody needs to teach him. I don’t know why that hasn’t been addressed.

Ovechkin scored a goal that maybe 10 players in the last 25 years are talented enough to do on a regular basis. He is a phenomenal talent and while he is a shadow of what he was 2+ years ago, he still shows glimpses of that hall of fame talent.
Yes, Boyle was interfered with slightly, but its nothing to cry about. Del Zotto with 2 posts and Hank and Bickel made 2 bonehead plays and that’s what cost us the game.

If its Callahan or Rupp or anyone in between, its a terrible play. That’s just being honest. Its the people who have their sacred players and their whipping boys that turn these debates into a disaster. Richards made a stupid play. Yes, it could have been a no call and yes, it was embellished, but Richards got baited. By a kid. And he can’t do that late in a tied playoff game. Neither can anyone else. But Richards did and thus Richards takes the heat. Simple.

Rangers dominated for stretches of this game…couple of bad breaks, mistakes and pansy penalties called by the refs cost us this game.
Oh, well. Tied 1-1, the Rangers just need to clean up their mistakes. I fully believe we will come back to MSG tied 2-2 or up 3-1. The Rangers can go to bed tonight knowing that they can beat the Caps.
And Ovechkin, for all his talent is still a first class tool.

well, things even out. look at how many posts the caps hit in game 1. couldve gone either way, just like tonight. this series is going the distance i think. probably the next one if we make it that far, and the finals, if. the only thing this team needs to catch up on is in offensive talent. were just a parise away babay!
dunno if anyone went to that rally today at Herald Square, but I checked it out during my lunch hour. Maloney went on at length about he basically thinks Gaborik will be ineffective in the playoffs because he doesn’t have the size to win battles. I thought Gaborik has been ok the last few games – neither as good or as bad as some have claimed – but he certainly needs to step it up.

Watch it again. You can argue whether or not it should have been called all day, but you can’t argue that Richards didn’t respond. That’s my entire issue with the play, he can’t respond at that point in the game and even open the door for a call, no matter how soft. He just can’t do it. That’s it. Point stated enough times. Richards has been great more games than not in the playoffs. He’s a big reason we’re in the 2nd round. He made a terrible, and terribly selfish, play tonight. That doesn’t make him a terrible player. It goes no further than that one play, and that one play was unfortunately huge.

I thought it was a good game and I really didn’t think there was going to be a sweep so, LGR and LGT!!
Four screw ups beat us tonight, bickel’s give away and mdz’s lack of D in front of Hank both led to the first caps goal, Hank’s ill fated trip outside of the crease (he was stellar in the crease), and mdz (this a little less of a factor than the previous 3) failing to beat knuble (knuble…just think about that) in a footrace on the potential icing.
Don’t trade or fire anyone, they made a few mistakes (an ill advised penalty by brich as well) but played well I thought.

Wicky, I think on knuble icing, he grabbed MDZ’s shoulder so he couldn’t reach the puck to prevent icing, no call he got away with it. Did I see that correctly?

Agreed, I’d like more Anisimov too. Throw him on the 3rd line in place of Prust when you’re looking for a little offensive spark or something, burying him with Rupp and Mitchell is just a waste.

you may indeed be very correct on that. The thing that kills me on it is knuble is like a 1000yrs old and was never speedy and mdz (who is not a fast skater obviously, but is playing very well) is 2fuggin1 and just couldn’t beat him out.
Anisimov really looks like a dog most of the time. Very hard to come up with excuses to give him additional ice time, though I’d agree that he’s completely wasted where he is right now.
