Ottawa is a pretty bad first round matchup. They have skill, size and some toughness.
Don’t forget the send went 3-1 in the season series and the rangers just cannot contain spezza. Add to that Karlson, a premier blue liner, and this is far from an easy step to round 2. This one will go 6 or more…. Perhaps Not a good start towards a long run.

They were in the Senators face all game and when they play like that good things happen. Of course there were times when I almost jumped out of my chair, but all-in-all the Rangers played their game.

Chris Neil was pretty quiet tonight, wasn’t he? Not like the other six games.
Krieder was a beast tonight. Kid took NO time to acclimate
First time on the boards all night. My series thoughts great game plan on Karlsson, Spezza was a no show. Cally may have a broken finger play hard but weird. Kreider shift by shift making Giant strides. Staal stepped up big time tonight. Hank had a goal go off MDZ a kick in goal by shrek one or two empty netters, just willing it out of the net, we will go as far as we can. Torts says we ain’t changing in this series and he was right and ment it. Chris Neil was almost soft tonight, maybe playing with a rattled head. Best of all got 4 tix on the blue line for all away games, so we got some Ranger fans in the Verizon center. Pumped
Kreider does look great. I dont remember seeing the Rangers bring up a rookie who had this much impact in games 5 games into his career. Not necessarily getting goals (Christian Dube), but positioning, play along the boards, play with and without the puck… And this is the playoffs. I do remember Leetch coming up, he looked real good, but he played ‘D’ which takes more time to learn…

Fishler was like “You had Hagelin there on the ice at the last shift” Torts was like “Ye, are you asking a question or making a statement?” The entire room of reporters laughed
He was talking about how NYR defended their aasens off in the third, ORR, and Stan goes “Two goals from defenseman!” Torts replied “Yeah.. yeah.. that helped too” and got back on topic. The tone of his voice and his expression were priceless!

Ottawa was SCARY good with the pressure at times. But Hank had what might have been one of his best games as a Ranger when it counted.

Woo Hoo! Amazing how the Rangers always manage to bring up a young, energetic, effective substitute each time a player goes down to injury. I don’t remember this since I started following them in the 1950s-1960s. Kreider’s play was amazing…Henrik played a Vezina worthy game and saved the day. Good team effort! And Staal seems to be finding his game again. Some great plays all the way around. Girardi is a hoot in the interview.
