Some pre-game stuff

Been meaning to write about this all week but haven’t had time.

There’s a new DVD out about the 1994 Rangers Cup, called “Road to Victory, the New York Rangers Story.”

Here’s the info the promotional people sent me:

Where were you on June 14th, 1994 when the New York Rangers ended a 54 year drought and became Stanley Cup Champions? Now available on DVD, ROAD TO VICTORY, THE NEW YORK RANGERS STORY is a celebration of the greatest days of the 1994 season. Relive all the emotional and unforgettable stories of Rangers fans and the Blueshirt legends that made it all happen. For Rangers fans, ROAD TO VICTORY is your story – pick it up now to own on DVD.”

Now, I was involved in this. I was interviewed at length, but have no idea if I appear in the video or if they just used some info I provided or what because, though I received a copy, I haven’t had time to watch it yet. But that’s not why I’m promoting it, especially since I didn’t get a dime, nor will I.

I’m promoting it for two reasons:

1) A very good friend who has seen it said it’s really good, with a lot of new stuff from the players and people who were around that team, and some new insight into Mike Keenan, for example, and his antics during the Eastern Conference Final, etc. and …

2) Because the producer has sent me a bunch of copies to use as prizes for some of our contests, including the first-round predictions contest and Sally’s “Third Semi-annual Paul Mara Playoff Beard Extravaganza And So On.”

On another front, I still am hearing and reading that, in any given series, “Team A has regained (or stolen) home-ice advantage.”

Um, cut it out please. Home teams in these playoffs are a sparkling 13-21, OK? It is EASIER to play on the road. It is easier to play without the home-ice pressure, especially early in the playoffs.

It’s not an advantage for anybody other than the owner.

I don’t know that Raffi Torres’ hit on Marian Hossa was worth 25 games or whatever, and given his history and the nature of the hit, I don’t have a problem with it. But if that’s 25, then what Shea Weber did has to be worth one or two or three, right? Seriously?

Finally, here’s my column from The Journal News and yesterday, which of course I forgot to link while I was mowing thigh-high grass in my yard.

25? 25???? I swear I thought someone was joking or it was typo when I read that….Shanahan, you leave me so confused.

Um, Carp, any extras for you favorite mama, other than the senior Mrs. Carp ? :)

  2. This always cracks me up. John Amirante is out on the ice rehearsing the anthems. He does them exactly the same way every time, for what, a hundred years? Why does he need to rehearse?

  3. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

Oh, I have to see this then… one regret about ’94…Keenan…..

  4. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

LOL Carp…one of my favorite pre-game posts from Sam was when he mentioned hearing Amirante warming up in the bathroom :)

  5. Twenty five is a good start… if the league is really interested in stopping this stuff. Hopefully this isn’t just the league picking an easy target- let’s see what we get when the player disciplined is a little more high profile (or any Penguin).

  6. $192 cheapest tickets for sale by fans on the nhl site
$153 cheapest tickets on stub hub

Both are obstructed view in the 400s and like a third of that price. . . . Guess i will be staying home Thursday.

  7. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

I wish there was a way to “like” comments here…..Would save time from saying, agreed ABlndy, but then again would shortchange Carp his $1.50

  8. Speaking of which, if I was really paid by the view or the comment, I’d be losing a ton of money not having Tony around “refreshing.”

  9. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

Jorek, some people on stubhub are charging almost $400 in the 400s…..yet there are cheaper seats in my new fave section, 112….people are insane!!! I’ll watch at home where the bathroom never has a line and the drinks are cheap….

  10. We hope it ends Monday Carp! Next round will be worse :-(

By the way I have tried to post a ton f comments that don’t seem to appear but when I try and report it says duplicate post (even though first one never showed up) so if at some point a whole ton of my posts show up . . . . . .I didn’t do it on purpose

  11. I like watching at home because I made another batch of BOURBON LEMONADE. It’s great. I even got a special _Ball_ jar to make it in.

  12. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

    refresh, refresh, refresh!!!!

Carp, I’ll tell Tony he owes you money….btw all, his kids are coming to town a week from tomorrow. They and Tony and Rose are very, very happy…..Tony has begun PT, too, and is doing well. Hope to see him tomorrow….will update.

  13. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

Jorek is posting too fast!!! lol!!!

Manny, you still gonna be with us by 7?

  14. Absolutely, Mama! It has to sit for a few hours to let the bourbon and simple syrup soak into the lemons. Got to have the synthesis between them.

  15. Oh…..and Mrs. Manny (just back from a mani/pedi) is making a dutch over full of chili! Woo hoo! Game night!!!!!!!!!

  16. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

Jorek, I don’t know….it’s a blog joke…..had you been here more often….! :) But the system will tell you to slow down….lol…

    Manny, oh man…..sweet!

In fact, I have to leave to get my game chow preparations…..see ya in a bit all……

  17. If your good friend saw the video, he would have told you if you were in it. Also, there are many obvious advantages to being the home team, but they, of course, don’t hold up strongly if you are the inferior team. Your numbers are meaningless.

  18. Joekuh - 14 more...LGBT! on

carp, did you forget that ottawa food story because of the thigh high grass too? prust sayin….

  19. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

In an ideal world, Hunter would have been suspended for life…..early hartneller…..

    and a wicky…..

  20. Ahem, I didn’t ask if I was in it … I just assumed I was … and, no, the stat is very real. Home ice is not an advantage.

  21. Thanks, Matty. That’s swell of you.

Thomas has not been great today all around. The Bruins did not respond as they should have to Thomas getting run by Carlson.

I have always hated playing the Capitals because for some reason they suck the snarl out of whatever team they play. The are doing it to the Bruins right now.

  22. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

Wait a minute, wait a minute…..Why am I seeing that Mondays’ game is at 1 p.m.?????? WTB????? Do I have to take the day off????

  23. So, Washington changed their game for the playoffs and Boston has not found an answer. Shocking.

King of like Ottowa has changed their game a bit. Have we found the answer? We will see in about a hour.

  24. Mama – those games are not technically decided on a start time because they are “if necessary” games. Don’t worry. It will be a 7:30PM start.

  25. Interesting point, Carp. Honestly, on it’s own it’s a really, really good beard. Enough to make me jealous (and I wear at least scruff always). When you combine it with the feathered, Bonnie Raitt style haircut and Smoking Jacket/Pimp Coat and the fake tan….yes. It’s creepy then.

  26. John Scott and Kris Newbury are in for Gaborik and Richards. Bel Biv Deveaux was called up to replace Callahan. Dubinsky will play in place of Stepan and Torts is suiting up, finally, to fill in on Defense.

  27. Raffi Torres statement, via the NHLPA:

Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres issued the following statement today.

“My main concern is for the healthy recovery of Marian Hossa, and I hope that he will be able to get back on the ice to compete again soon. I sincerely regret injuring Marian.

“Regarding the severity of the suspension issued, I will take the next few days to decide whether or not to appeal the decision.”

  28. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

matty, dying a beard is weirder, and doesn’t work, than dying the head…..what was the incident?

full disclosure, as anyone here who has met me knows….I’m not personally against having a good colorist :)

  29. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

re: Torres… much did it cost the NHLPA lawyer to write that…..

I also thought you had to appeal faster than a few days…..

  30. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

Sorry, I making up for not being around last two days and am working off nervcited energy pre-game…..

  31. I was rooting for us to play the Caps. They had such an off year and no goaltending. Figured they would be an easy out. Easier than the Sens who gave us fits during the year. YIKES!

  32. Blogmama Go Tony!!!! on

Yev, regular season don’t matter, as these playoffs have certainly shown us. That’s what makes the playoffs so great and so $&^$(&%*)^*)^*)%!!!!

and no, that was not a typo :)

Thanks for that Carp, must have!!

  34. If we come out and just play our game tonight, we will win. I have a gut feeling that we are going to beat them by more than 2 goals tonight. Get it screwed on straight and play the right way. Let’s go boys.

  35. I should just email Sally to ask, but there is a page or something with the beard contest? I am entered.

  36. I agree blogmama.. Regular season means nothing ..

    LET’S GET IT ON!!!!!
