April 7, 2012 (Game 82, Home Game 41)
Madison Square Garden – New York, NY

Team Notes:

-        The Rangers completed their 2011-12 regular season campaign tonight with a 4-1 loss against the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden.

-        New York posted a record of 51-24-7 (109 pts) overall, including a 27-12-2 mark at home and a 24-12-5 mark on the road.

-        The Rangers’ 51 wins rank second in franchise history, while their 109 points tied for second all-time.  The Blueshirts also tied the team record with 24 road wins.

-        The Rangers are 5-2-0 in their last seven meetings against the Capitals.

Player Notes:

-        Brian Boyle tallied the Rangers’ lone goal at 12:44 of the second period, and registered four shots and two hits in 15:15 of ice time.  He has tallied seven points (five goals, two assists) in the last nine games, including four points (two goals, two assists) in the last three games. Boyle skated in all 82 games for the second consecutive season.

-        Brandon Dubinsky recorded an assist in 13:59 of ice time.  He has tallied eight points (three goals, five assists) in the last 11 games, including three points (one goal, two assists) in the last three games.

-        Stu Bickel tallied the primary assist on Boyle’s goal and posted a plus-one rating in 10:30 of ice time.

-        Henrik Lundqvist made 13 saves to finish the regular season with a record of 39-18-5 overall, including a 21-10-2 mark at home.  His 39 wins mark a career-high, and are second most by a Rangers’ goaltender in a single season.

-        Marc Staal led all skaters with a season-high, six blocked shots, and registered four shots on goal in 23:56 of ice time.

-        Brad Richards won a game-high, 12-17 faceoffs (71%), and recorded four shots on goal in 19:47 of ice time.

-        Marian Gaborik registered a game-high, six shots on goal in 18:07 of ice time.  Gaborik skated in all 82 games for the first time in his career.

-        Michael Del Zotto was credited with a game-high, five hits, and logged 23:51 of ice time.

-        John Tortorella on the playoffs… “You’re really looking forward to the playoffs. It’s a lot of hockey and I’m really excited and our team will be ready to play. I’m really excited about starting out and I know the guys are too.”

-        Henrik Lundqvist on tonight’s game… “Everything that could go wrong in the first (period) did. I don’t think we played that bad in the second and third period, but when you just get behind by that much in the first period it’s tough to recover.”

-        Ryan Callahan on tonight’s game… “We had a tough start there. We caught ourselves down early and we never really seemed to get it back. I thought we had some opportunities, some chances, but it’s tough to come back. Now the fun stuff starts and we’re excited to get going.”
