Ticket contest … Dreams telethon … and Rangers at Wild tonight

The ticket contest is now open. Please scroll down and read the rules before entering. It would be really nice if I didn’t have to disqualify anybody. It would also be really nice to be king of the world. Only entries in this thread will be accepted. The contest closes when “It’s Go Time!” is posted tonight shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Tonight is also the Garden of Dreams Telethon on MSG Network, starting at 7:30 p.m. during the pre-game show.

Viewers can call 212-465-3900 to purchase a $100 raffle ticket, which enters them in a drawing to win memorabilia and experiences from MSG and the Rangers (I’ll try to post the full list of items to be raffled in the game thread tonight). All proceeds from the night benefit the Garden of Dreams Foundation, which makes dreams come true for kids facing obstacles in the tri-state area (www.gardenofdreamsfoundation.org).

  1. >>Tonight is also the Garden of Dreams Telethon on MSG Network, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Uh oooh! If I remember correctly, Rangers do not have a good record on Telethon nights.

  2. Hey! Guess what! Wellwood scored !

Mebbe I’m gonna have a different slant on this guy.

Now who would have thunk that?

  3. I think the first person to enter has already been disqualified. My entry:

Rangers 4, Wild 0. GWG: Richards. Rangers shots: 32. Wild shots: 18.

  4. bull dog line on

    from last post.
there are 2 guys here that get a free pass no matter how they are playing, and they are Staal, and Anisimov. everybody else is fair game. Ansimov, no matter how you want to spin it, has not met expectations this season or last. he was given ( not earned) the number 2 center spot and coughed it up this season. last year both Boyle, and Stepan exceeded expectations, while Anismov despite playing with Cally, and Dubi most of the season, did not meet expectations.

  5. Staal in particular has come in for a hell of a lot of criticism on here for somebody supposedly with a free pass, bull dog.

  6. sating that, I know these clowns will actually lose 9-0, with a Christensen hat trick to give them something to think about

  7. Cal Clutterbuck would be tremendous on this Ranger team; More skill than Prust, not as much as Callahan, but surely just as tough as them.

  8. Bull dog,

Not sure how you can say that Anisimov did not meet expectations last year when he increased his production by a decent amount from his rookie year playing on a line that was often used against the other team’s top lines. Boyle might have blown away any expectations for him because that bar was set extremely low based on his first year in NY and career in general.

As for this year you’ll get no argument that he’s disappointed for long stretches, but to declare him a bust and his potential tapped out in his 3rd year in the NHL considering the strides we saw guys like Callahan and Dubi make in their 4th years last season just seems somewhat premature.

On the other thread I brought up Stepan to the list of guys that had similar production droughts as Dubinsky and Boyle vis a vis Jagr in part to illuminate his struggles since the GAS line was dismantled. The widely held belief among the number crunchers is that Stepan isn’t quite ready to carry lines by himself especially against tougher competition. Stepan has also benefitted from getting a large amount of time on the PP (5th on the team in ATOI, 4th if you remove Zucc from the list given his small sample size and about double total TOI than AA) , which even though has a poor conversion rate still gives a player a more favorable chance to pick up points (Stepan has 12 pts on the PP vs AA’s 2, which means Stepan has 35 points at even strength vs AA’s 31). Now fortunately he seems to mesh well with Gaborik which in and of itself provides a hefty amount of value since in theory that should slot Richards to the other top line in order to create better scoring depth.

So I think the fans of Anisimov aren’t trying to absolve him of any blame for his under achievement but they’d like to see some consistency when it comes to calling players out for not producing when it’s warranted.

  12. Good morning all! I predict the Rangers will win and Sally will be awarded the tickets!!!!

  13. oleosmirf:

Yesterday, you stated that Andrew Yogan was a “project”. Could you elaborate on this? why is he a “project”.

  17. @Doodie – Cullen? Like the guy from “Breaking Dawn” and all those other Vampire films?@

  18. Doodie Machetto on

Manny, I think I am very proud to not know what the hell you are talking about. I think.

  19. Stranger Nation on

With their last loss (0-3 v. Craps), the Wild was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs this season…

  20. You should be proud, Doodie. I also didn’t know about the “Twilight” series but then……….

I was dogsitting and my friend has an exceptionally complicated TV and I ended up on the first movie (can’t recall the name) and I was too lazy to change the channel so I saw it while playing with his puppy (a French Bulldog) and then I was kind of hooked. Watched a marathon of the first three.

Still haven’t seen the most recent. But man I can’t wait!

  21. so what’s been going on in the De-Rangers (see what i did there? aha!) land lately? I’ve been absent a bit the last few days… lots of freaking homework kills my blogging vibe! Dammit!

  22. Same Ole. Talk about which seed the Rangers will end up with and who they will face. Not enough fighting about it though. Someone called czechthemout a rapist. Then he threatened to fight them or something. That is the peak of the excitement.

  23. that’s right Manny! I’ma system beater! No system can stop ME!

Hey Genghis Tron – how do you like to be DISQUALIFIED? BOOM! NEXT!

  24. Rangers 5, Wild 2 GWG: Homeboy Stepan, Rangers shots: 30, Wild shots: 30

Extra Bonus: Wild goals – EC and Ortmeyer

  25. oh i see, Manny… honestly, i don’t care who they play i just want the regular season to end already! Seems like it’s been dragging forever the last few weeks.

  26. Yea – every team we could potentially horrifies me for a different reason. It’s Hockey. It’s a crap shoot and all the teams are pretty evenly balanced. Except for the Penguins of course.

  27. It’s great when people copy/paste an already disqualified post and then use that as the framework for their prediction post.

  28. well…the positive is that we don’t get to play the Pen()s maybe until the second round or even the CF… so that’s kinda good. Everyone else i believe we can handle.

  29. The next contest will be to guess how many posts are disqualified. Without going over of course.

  30. Tiki XLII XLVI on

Rangers 3, Wild 1. GWG: Gaborik. Rangers shots: 25. Wild shots: 24.

I know Manny’s is in the correct format, so Im stealing his!! LOL!

  31. “CCCP March 27th, 2012 at 10:45 am

no we will not wake you up when the playoffs start!”

That might actually be a good thing.

  32. Tiki XLII XLVI on

I copied and pasted mine from Manny who copied and pasted his from Doodie who copied and pasted his from Carp’s example.

So unless Sally is right and there’s a conspiracy in which Carp really does not exist, Doodie and therefore Manny and thus I have the correct format.

  33. >>>Tiki XLII XLVI March 27th, 2012 at 10:51 am

I copied and pasted mine from Manny who copied and pasted his from Doodie who copied and pasted his from Carp’s example.

Remember back (way back) in grammar school when you whisper something in the persons ear, and that person relays it to the next person, and by the time you get to the last person, it wasn’t even close to the original? Well, that is what happened with all of these copy and pasties.

  34. Tiki XLII XLVI on

lol bob. Im going to tell you a secret. 6 franchise players including E Staal will be traded at this year’s deadline.

  35. advantage of working from home and being your own boss – i can do what i want whenever i want it!

    VIBIN’! right? :P

  36. Yea that rules, @CCCP@ – not the part where Tiki fired you. That’s too bad. Sounded like you had it pretty good. He’s the boss though.

I just got into The Wire. It’s amazing. I always hear it’s “better than the Sopranos” which I find hard to believe.

  37. Tiki XLII XLVI on

Ive heard the The Wire’s the best show in TV history, Ive wanted to watch it for a while. Still havent found the time. You ever watch “24”, Manny?

  38. Good morning, boneheads!

    How’s your day going?

The ticket contest is turning into reading comprehension challenge…

*DO NOT* get me started on the “Twilight”!

  39. ilb – how good is Breaking Dawn Part I? I haven’t seen it yet! I can’t wait to see Bella as a Vampire!

  40. Manny- WTB is Breaking Dawn? If you want any details, I can give you mrs’ email….She’ll be very happy to chat with you about that.

  41. *The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn* is a 2011–2012 set of two romantic vampire films directed by Bill Condon and based on the novel Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. The two individual films form the fourth and fifth installments in the The Twilight Saga series. All three main cast members, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, reprise their roles.

  42. Hahaha. How do you know my sample entry wasn’t purposely done incorrectly so that you’d all cut and paste and be disqualified so I could keep the tickets?

CCCP, beating the system makes me afraid of you.

Tiki, Bobby Barker? The host from Price is Right?

speaking of copying and pasting, I have the urge to copy and paste the longest article ever just to see everyone complain about how far they have to scroll down to get past it….Is that bad?

  45. Manny, I also came across this one, what do you know about this one:

The Three O’Clock High Saga: Breaking Wind

  46. Tiki XLII XLVI on

Walking Dead season 1 was excellent. They changed writers for Season 2 and the writing was noticeably much worse. Its still good, but the dropoff is substantial.

  47. Wicky – here is what I like to do to screw up posts:

  48. AH! It didn’t work! I will try again

  49. Breaking Bad = Greatest show in the universe!

    walking dead blows!

i hate it when you do that! esp. when im using the iphone

  50. The Wire is indeed the greatest television series the planet has seen, much better than the Sopranos and I was a huger fan of that one.

  51. Tiki XLII XLVI on

btw, I was only teasing ilb about Twilight. Its the mrs ilb that likes Twilight. When ilb hears about that stuff, his face twinges!

  52. Oh it looks worse on the phone? I will have to go look at it on my phone. @Sorry@

Peter – I am just about done with Season 1 and I assume what you’re saying is the gospel. The Wire is very, very good.

  53. @CCCP@ I just looked at it on my iPhone and all it did was cut off at the right margin? WTF!?

  54. yeah Manny… it messes up the screen on the iPhone… btw, how many of you are using the mobile theme? I’m using the same format as here! Old school, baby!

  55. Wicky©No pears, No apples, Where's my pineapple?! on

I think I’ll wait until a non contest thread, just so carp doesn’t bench me!!!!

I thought his face always did that LOL!!

  56. TIKI

Don’t even mention that DEFINITION of amateur-hour. I can’t even begin to describe what a disaster last night’s display was for U.S. soccer.

Completely unnacceptable (to put it softly).

I would strip away citizenship from every one of those clowns, starting with the coach.

  57. Yea you should probably make time. It’s pretty much the best drama I have ever seen. I am enthralled.

  58. Wild 3, Rangers 1.
    GWG: Clutterbuck
    Rangers Shots; 21
    Wild Shots; 24.

Oh oh – am I risking stirring up the Optimist Orvilles?

Or maybe not predicting a Rangers victory in here automatically disqualifies my entry??

  59. No, Jim. But posting in that manner and not in the prescribed fashion does get you a Disqualification.

  60. Doodie Machetto on

Carp, is it possible for me to amend my entry because I didn’t know Cullen was out with a broken finger? Everything else would remain the same, I just want to change my GWG since Avery and Wellman have about an equal shot as Cullen does.

  61. OOh….damn….lots of disqualifications then – I just copied/pasted from another entry, then updated….

  62. You should copy/paste from Tiki who copy/pasted from Me (Manny) who copy/pasted from Doodie who copy/pasted from Carp’s example of a proper prediction post.

  63. Manny – I take umbrage with your snarky-Jim comment.

I am not snarky! At least not right now….

  64. True Blue Mike (Del Zotto's Swagger) on

Rangers 4, Wild 1. GWG: Gaborik. Rangers shots: 24. Wild shots: 25.

  65. I would *demand* Gabby to score 5 today, as a compensation for past embarrassment. Then, I can watch EC to score hattrick on us. That, I like to call an entertainment.

  66. Doodie Machetto on

Thanks Carp. I have a nice charitable cause lined up for the tickets if I win them.

Miami, what’s your guess on tonight’s game? 10-0, GWG: Harding?

  67. Doodie Machetto on

eric, I was going to say 4-2, I just couldn’t do it for the Wild. Their offense is pathetic. Still good enough to get 3 against us, but not 4.

  68. Stranger Nation on

Favorite TV show – *Deadwood* – if you haven’t seen it, see it; if you have seen it, see it again.

Carp – great calls on F Troop and Get Smart

how about the Three Stooges? (but only with Curly)

  71. Doodie Machetto on

I did know there was a movie in the works, but didn’t know Tony Soprano was going to be curly. I imagine there will be some leg-breaking slapstick.

  72. Doodie Machetto on

I liked Friends. I don’t think it’s had the staying power of other shows, but at the time it was great.

    Busy as well thanks

  75. Will Sasso is playing Curly. He’s a hockey fan. I remember him from the NHL awards a few years ago. Not funny at all!

That movie is going to be awful. The only good scene in the movie is when Kate Upton gets out of the pool with that nun-kini.

  76. 4everanger-your dirtiest dirtbag. on

I don’t know a … All I was being told by Highest Power that in this game GWG will be scored by Redden in second period at 19:36. Do what you pleased with this info.

  77. Now there is a *great* show, ORR. Game of Thrones forever! (or until the end of the series)

  78. Doodie Machetto on

    1a. Real Housewives of Atlanta
1b. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
    1c. Real Housewives of Miami
1d. Real Housewives of New Jersey
1e. Real Housewives of New York
1f. Real Housewives of Orange County

I can’t decide which is worse so I just listed them alphabetically.

  79. Pretty much any show on Bravo or HGTV. A couple of years back HGTV was blacked out for us due to a dispute with Dolanvision. Those were some of the best nights of my life for those few weeks.

  80. Thanks, Carp. That is what I was going for. Any show about wives – including that “Love & Hip Hop” show

  81. I think Carp is going to disqualify everyone using the little known “they’re not Sally” rule.

  82. Winston Wolfe on

I have to agree with some others that The Wire is the best show ever and much better than The Soprano’s. Deadwood is another of my favorite shows, but I still think The Wire was a bit better.
I agree with Doodie, The “Real Housewives” shows are the worst thing on television and (along with Jersey Shore) are contributing to the decline of western civilization.

  83. My predication:

    Blueshirts 4 Wildings 2

    Game-winning score: Zooka-rella

    Shots for all.

  84. Stranger Nation on

Three Stooges with Gandolfini as Curly, Little Steven as Moe and Steve Buscemi as Larry – in this series the pranks are real with full gore, blood and guts.

  85. I’m not into cop shows.

Hahaha. It’s SO much more. Don’t be ridiculous.

ORR – there are topless women sometimes if it takes that to drag you into possibly the best show ever made.

  86. Stranger Nation on

Some recent good TV – Frozen Planet with the Killer Whale scene stalking the seal – very primal

  87. nyr 5 wild 3 gwg The King shots on me Cheers Go fish sticks just for the next 2 then crash and burn. its all coming down to game 81. Its never easy, we fight for 8th or 1st. Bleed Blue, oh Baby !

  88. Wicky©No pears, No apples, Where's my pineapple?! on

    No way I get DQ’d!!!

funny story about party of 5…so I’m in college and dating one of the athletic trainers for our team (a big no no obviously) and her brother is “bailey” on party of 5 (I think that was his characters name) and he is a big hockey fan and has season tickets to the blues.

I’m out with a concussion and not playing and I am supposed to be doing minimal activity…she calls me and asks if I want to go to the rangers game with her brother. I of course say yes.

We get to the game and of course some lady that is finding people to do the intermission shoot the puck in the goal from centre ice to win a car, asks me to do it. I’m like hell yes (thinking this is in the bag for me). Not the smartest decision for me since they SHOW IT ON TV (still not registering with me at this point about it being on TV)!!!

First period is about to end so i’m getting ready to go and all of a sudden her brother is like, are you sure this is a good idea since it’s on TV and it might not be very beneficial for you if you are seen doing this……The TV aspect finally dawns on me and so I’m like sorry I umm have to decline this opportunity.

I would like to thank “bailey” from party of 5 and his sister for making it possible for me to see the rangers play in person (right up by the glass of course) while I was suffering from concussion #5, I believe, and also for saving me from getting in a whole lot of trouble by being on TV in some first intermission contest.

This also allowed me to get concussions #6-13 further down the road as well, so now that I think about it that show really sucked!!!

  89. Rangers 3, Wild 0. GWG: Callahan. Rangers shots: 30 Wild shots: 25.

    Let’s go Rangers!!!

  90. Carp, agreed, mooners forever. The guy playing curly isn’t gandolfini. And as far as st elsewhere goes, the show might have been lousey, but there was a girl playing an intern, that was seeing one of the older doctors who was absolutely hot.
Any how, my favorite line of all time……”How’d ya like to sailing over the clubhouse, huh alice?”

  91. the wire? that show sucked. All it was, was an exercise in how many time you can say F%&CK on tv in an hour.

  92. @KatieStrangESPN@ #NYR Flyers label injury as”day-to-day” but in event of NYR/PHI playoff match-up, worth noting that *Bryzgalov has chip fracture in rt foot*

  93. the universe with the chip fracture… no matter what, that’s gotta affect his game somehow

  94. Rangers 1, Wild 4 GWG – Clutterbuck Rangers shots: 16 Wild shots: 22

Every time I enter these things I figure for a Rangers debilitating loss and end up completely wrong. So….you’re welcome. :-)

  95. I seriously hope some of you guys who just show up for the ticket contests will join the conversations in the comments once in a while.

  96. tf, you know what will happen, given it’s Philly … Bobrovsky will go in and get on a roll and then they’ll eventually have a goalie controversy that blows up in Paul Holmgren’s face in the playoffs.

  97. carp, no doubt about it… they should have just stuck with the bob anyway. he was good last year and then the first hiccup in the playoffs, they were pulling anyone and everyone in. for all the money they paid the universe, the bob would have probably been just as good this year.

  98. Can you imagine if NYR plays the Craps again, and they beat NYR with Holtby in net? How depressing would that be? Three times in a row.

    Var-LA-Mov for Three-Or-More

    Noy-Vair for Var-LA-Mov

    Holt-Be for Noy-Vair/Vo-Koon

    Hate the Craps!

I wanted the Jets to get in, but they’re likely done, barring a miracle.

  99. I’m nervous about ANY goalie looking like the next coming of Ken Dryden come playoff time. ESPECIALLY against the Rangers who have a horrible habit of making the most mediocre of goalies look like All-Stars.

Losing to the Caps AGAIN would drive me absolutely insane. Losing to the Pens LIKE ALWAYS will drive me insane.

Don’t know why Bryzgalov is gonna miss any time…a foot is a very small thing when you consider the cosmos…So small in something so large…so amazing…

  100. Yev

The reason why I said Yogan was a project was because its been reported that he has consistency and effort/attitude issues. He missed basically all of last season with an injury an then once he returned he got in his junior coaches dog house and was essentially benched in the playoffs.

He was supposed to be late 1st rounder/early 2nd rounder but slipped so it seems like either he will put it all together under a demanding Tortorella/Gernander or get shipped outta town b/c he can’t cut it

  101. Since we are talking TV shows, did anyone see the first season of Homeland? Amazing show. Shameless is great as well. And yes, Game of Thrones back on this weekend!

As far as the Rangers go, I feel the recent stretch since the All-Star break is missing that swagger from the earlier part of the year. I think this could be a good and a bad thing. Good because they are realistically in each game and not underestimating their opponents. Bad because this could lead to second guessing themselves, mistakes, basic lack of confidence. I definitely think they are just waiting for the playoffs to start but the season is not over. These next few games are a good chance to get themselves back to dominating teams. It has got to start with Lundqvist and then the defense, the whole team playing defense. This takes patience, something the Rangers had a lot of in the beginning of the year. Finally, the team plays at its best when it plays as a team. They could really use a spark to get themselves playing this way again.

Also, player shoutout. I think Stu Bickel has really stepped up. This guy pretty much came out of nowhere and has played a strong on both ends of the ice. He’s physical and he’s beginning to learn the Rangers system more and more. Fun to watch.

Should be a great last four games of the year by the way. Theoretically, and what I would like to see, is a Rangers v. Capitals first round, with a grudge match the last game of the season. We need a little revenge on them for the past 2 playoff series.

  102. "Fragile" Frankie Merman on

Rangers 3, Wild 2. GWG: Richards. Rangers shots: 30. Wild shots: 26.

  103. >>Torts hates Erixon.

    Does Torts hate Scott also?
    He hasn’t played in ages.
The topper to me was when he was scratched for the Debbies game.

  104. Doodie Machetto on

Orr, it’s not a cop show like CSI or something. It’s much more about the people than the policework.

  105. Tiki XLII XLVI on

Jay, I saw the first season of Homeland. Excellent. Danes is a one of a kind actress and Mandy Patinkin is one of my favorite actors of all time. Will eventually find time to watch Game of Thrones.

  106. Carp, what is the email to use for the contest? Sorry, I think I’ve only emailed you once, and I can’t find it.

  107. iWicky "If you don't stop flapping your jaws, I'm going to knock you out on national tv" on

    The concussions…she was great

Rangers 5, Wild 1: GWG Callahan: Rangers Shots, 28, Wild Shots, 22

  109. czechthemout!!!! on

I think that Erixon is not being benched at all. I think that Torts wants to see if Stralman, who clearly has not played well in his past several games will come out with a great game and solidify his position in the lineup. If he fails than Erixon will be the guy . What is obvious is that Bickel has cemented the number five spot on dfense. It looks like Erixon is close to the six spot.

  110. Anton Stralman is a minor leaguer. Not really sure who is operating under the illusion that he’s anything more than that or why he should be considered for a playoff roster spot if there are any other healthy defensemen available.

thanks for posting and disqualifying yourself all in your first post ever!

  112. RetireRattysNumberAlreadyWillYa on

Rangers 5, Wild 3. GWG: Stepan. Rangers shots: 33. Wild shots: 29

  113. In 5 years of professional NHL experience Stralman played 269 games. Only 57 of those in AHL, and 212 in NHL. That isn’t a prototypical description of a minor leaguer…Never played in the POs (Toronto, Columbus). Torts needs to see whether he can trust him…..

  114. 4everanger-your dirtiest dirtbag. on

To *THE GUY THAT’S GOING TO POST ONCE AND THEN I’LL NEVER POST AGAIN, BECAUSE I REALLY ONLY WANT THE TICKETS. IT’S NOT LIKE I HAVE TO TALK TO ANYONE HERE, SO HOPEFULLY I WIN THE TICKETS* – Never say “never”, it will be another Ticket Contest and again you’ll go for freebies and again nobody here will willing to talk to you…loser is a loser even in such a huge and long announcement of being coupon’s sale regular. Good luck in losing!

  115. Czechthemout!!! on

I agree that Stralman is little more than a number 7-8 defenseman. I also think that he has shown that his talent is better than what he’s shown on the ice. If it were me, I would rather play Erixon more to give him more experience as we ramp up for the playoffs. That said, tonight maybe Stralmans’s last game barring injury.

  116. … but if there are personnel decisions that need to be made before Game 1, these last seven games are the time to answer questions, right?

  117. Boston Bonehead on

Really CT Blueshirt? Exact same prediction? Hows that for luck haha. Do we each get one if we win?

  118. Czechthemout!!! on

I predict that either the Rangers or Wild will either win or lose tonight via either regulation, overtime or the shoot out.
