  1. Well, Carp had us in 6th in the East. With Pitt. winning the cup (uh-oh) over the Ducks.

  2. eric October 7th, 2011 at 9:18 am

    my predictions

    wash over rangers conf finals

    chicago over kings

    chicago over caps in 7

  3. Doodie Machetto October 7th, 2011 at 9:56 am

My predictions will have two versions. One assumes Crosby comes back around January and finishes the season. The other is Crosby-less.

    1) Washington
    2) Pittsburgh
    3) Boston
    4) Philly
    5) Buffalo
    6) Rangers
    7) Tampa
    8) Carolina
    9) Montreal
    10) New Jersey
    11) Toronto
    12) Winnipeg
    13) Islanders
    14) Florida
    15) Ottawa

Without a Crosby return, I pick Boston to finish second, Philly third, and Pittsburgh 4th.

    1) Vancouver
    2) LA
    3) Detroit
    4) San Jose
    5) Chicago
    6) Anaheim
    7) Nashville
    8) Minnesota
    9) Columbus
    10) Phoenix (Quebec)
    11) St. Louis (JD gets canned when Hulsizer comes in. Maybe he comes back to broadcast for us?!)
    12) Calgary
    13) Dallas
    14) Colorado
    15) Edmonton

Eastern Final: Pittsburgh vs. Washington. With Crosby, Pittsburgh wins, without him, Washington.

Western Final: LA vs. Chicago, LA Wins

Cup: LA vs. Washington, LA wins.

Doodie Machetto October 7th, 2011 at 10:01 am
Actually, to modify, without Crosby, I think the Conference Final is Washington vs. Boston, and Washington wins.

I think in the with Crosby scenario, we lose in the first round to the Bruins. In the without scenario, we lose in the second round to the Caps
Doodie Machetto October 7th, 2011 at 10:01 am
Oh and in the with Crosby scenario, I still think LA wins the Cup.

  4. fran October 7th, 2011 at 10:35 am
I don’t know about the cup, but I see no great fall off of Vancouver so far this season, and I think Buffalo will be higher than that. ( Tough to pick against a goaltender like theirs.)

  5. Latona = Capt. Snark

    *Latona* October 7th, 2011 at 7:19 am

Unless I’m mistaken, the top three seeds go to the division leaders. But I agree with the teams for the most part.

  6. CCCP October 7th, 2011 at 11:50 am
i will predict that none of your predictions will come true.

    i hate predicting…

  7. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?! October 7th, 2011 at 12:00 pm
My Bruins prediction held up last season. So, I’m trusting my instincts again.

Kings vs Caps in Cup Final – Kings win! BOOM!

  8. “I saw a billboard for the lottery. It said, “Estimated lottery jackpot 55 million dollars.” I did not know that was estimated. That would suck if you won and they said, “Oh, we were off by two zeroes. We estimate that you are angry.””

  9. Doodie Machetto on

    Thanks for reminding me Banj!

I really thought this was going to be LA’s year.

  10. Wait, you’re saying Eric had the Rangers making the conference finals before the season? Wasn’t expecting that.

  11. Doodie Machetto on

I’ll say this though: I stand by everything I said about Crosby and the Penguins. With him, they are the cream of the Eastern crop.

  12. Doodie Machetto on

For the people asking about the 3-2-1 points system, Puck Daddy had an article on it where Steve Yzerman is a big supporter, but explains that it just has no traction at the management level. Also, they have updated standings reflecting that system, and nothing really changes all that much. The Devils drop a spot or two, and that’s about it.

  13. Puerto Rican food for lunch. Chicken, rice & beans, tostones w/ some kind of amazing mystery sauce. Foodgasm.

  14. “I don’t believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness. But one time, I wrestled a giraffe to the ground with my bare hands.”

  15. “Kings vs Caps in Cup Final – Kings win! BOOM!”

LOL! Both teams are fighting to get into the playoffs. Never would have imagined that. Also I picked the Isles to finish 8th.

I was right aboot Buffalo though. One of my only successful predictions this season.

  16. “The only thing you ever cared about Stoney was nugs, chillin’ and grindage.”

  17. “It was Johnny Hopkins and Sloan Kettering. And they were blazing that [ish] up every day.”

  18. Tiki XLII XLVI on

Homemade chili. Healthy Choice Grilled Balsamic Chicken. Healthy choice ravioli florentine, lime water

  19. “Two things; you keep your liver-spotted hands off my beautiful mother! She’s a saint! And then you sit down and you write Dale and Brennan a check for $10,000!”

  20. my friend is a islander fan, before the season started he bet me 100 dollars the islanders would make the playoffs and the rangers would not make the playoffs. I must say I’m looking good, easy money, dopey islander fans.

  21. “Listen, I know that we started out as foe. But after that courageous act that you showed me against the one they call Derek, maybe someday we could become friends. Friends who ride majestic, translucent steeds, shooting flaming arrows across the bridge of Hemdale.”

  22. “The only thing you ever cared about Stoney was nugs, chillin’ and grindage.”

    I thought we’d weez a little jui-ce.

  23. glass half empty October 7th, 2011 at 5:38 pm

Ottawa in the top 8? you gotta be smokin’ something. they are a TERRIBLE team this year.

    NYR_FAN October 7th, 2011 at 6:25 pm

    glass half empty

    yeah, it’s really good too…

  24. *Question to James Neal*

Who’s the one roommate you don’t want to get paired with on the road?

    *James Neal*

TK [winger Tyler Kennedy]. I don’t even want to know how bad he snores. I know how loud he breathes on the bus, so I can’t imagine how loud he snores.

  25. That could have been me with that Ottawa comment. They’re this year’s version of 2011 Tampa.

  26. I still like how LW reposts this from time to time:

@You see the difference between you and me, Carp, is that since this team came out and looked terrible and heading for disaster at this point, I have been the first one to eat my words and say I was wrong about Turderella and be disgusted that I was wrong.@

@You, on the other hand, refuse to even acknowledge that there is a potentially solid playoff team here and that the pretty decent coach in charge might be implicit in what is happening.@

  27. *johnnyboy* October 9th, 2011 at 8:45 am

Chemistry takes time and patience , Torts has neither.

Avery looks better every game Christensen plays

  28. And bull dog nailed it way back then……..

*bull dog line* October 9th, 2011 at 8:46 am

Avery is gone. wipe your tears, and move on.

  29. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?! October 15th, 2011 at 9:26 pm

What a huge disappointment this team has been after three games. I can’t believe how pathetic they look. They’re making me sick! Maybe we’ll win next month. I’ll try to be patient.

  30. firetorts October 29th, 2011 at 8:08 pm
Before trading any actual hockey players, don’t you think they should fire and replace the clueless egomaniacal ratface behind the bench and see if another coach can stop the bleeding?

  31. firetorts October 29th, 2011 at 6:33 pm

    Torts MAD!!!

    Torts shuffle lines!!

    Torts Benches players!!!

    unfrozen caveman Ranger coach

  32. *10.10.2011*

    Brad Richards:

    On the power play practice:

“We’re trying to get a good foundation, a basis, so we can build on it. That’s what you’re doing out there today.”

  33. Kenny Albert just tweeted —>>> that Bickel hasn’t been on the ice for a goal against since 31 January. Wasn’t he the one lunging desperately at Kovalchuk last game when he scored?

  34. Ratface Tort October 16th, 2011 at 12:42 am

Ratface coach is a piece of crap, by sending down Zuccarello he is saying that Zuccarello is the reason they suck.

BTW why is Christensen garbage still on the team?

I am so fed up with ratface, and so fed up with having no system and a PP that doesn’t score. How many more great UFA’s do we need to sign to help the PP to realize that the PP is all about coaches, not the players. When the PP sucks it is a sign that your coach might be a retard.

Anybody notice that Tort Ratface only trusts forwards that he plays on the PK and of couse Richards and Gaborik, all others are in his perpetual rathouse.

So funny how we had so much depth going into pre-season it looked like even a 3 line clown coach like Ratface would roll 4 lines, but Tort made a quick work of it:

    Weise lost to waivers
    Wolski mysteriously injured
Rupp all of a sudden in the doghouse
Avery, Zuccarello and Mitchell shipped off to Hartford. But we are left with Christensen and a 3 line team.

  35. *LW3H* October 15th, 2011 at 3:48 am

Eric’s in midseason form already, I see, fretting over every Eastern conference game that might go to OT. Must-win tonight, I presume?

  36. loneranger October 16th, 2011 at 1:04 am

Tortsh-t is a cross between Rasputin, Wolfman (Lon Chaney) & and a snarly Racoon. Has no system. Wow , we outhit our opponents 48-24. Then we end up with half our team injured 2/3’s of the way thru the season. Mats Z and Christensen are so much better than Aves. Give me a freeken break. Not sticking with set lines, only playing three just don’t cut it when you’re playing a long season. Nice handle guys, luv Ratface

  37. LOLwut?

  38. The Ugg promo might be the only post of that length not posted by an Avery fanboy in October.

Because Sean would _never_ be seen in Uggs.

  39. Just checked that Kovalchuk goal again. Definitely Bickel on the ice, though he’d only just come off the bench.

Official stats say Girardi was on and he got the minus for it.

  40. “Ratface coach is a piece of crap, by sending down Zuccarello he is saying that Zuccarello is the reason they suck.”

LOL! That may be the quote of the season! What happened to this guy?

  41. Just add a +1 next to the 23 and you can probably get the Callahan nameplate put over Drury

  42. CT,

Wasn’t Kotalik 12? Unless Hagelin plans on changing his number after this season.. 12 was his college number, right?

  43. That’s what I meant Latona. 62 seems too much like pre-season numbers. I remember Cally was 43 and Dubi was 54.

  44. Think so. Probably is, Orr. He is a terror on Ranger Rants these days, I hear….

  45. Yeah Girardi was 46, Stepan had 57 in the pre-season last year.

Still wonder why Frolov had 31 in his brieft time in NY.

  46. You guys lose an hour of sleep this weekend. I don’t. I gain. I’ll sleep two hours longer Sunday to make up for it.

  47. One of my friends had this plan to “ease” into the whole Spring ahead thing. He did 15 minutes a day for 4 days. It did not work out well

  48. Bob got banned but the bob that got banned is not Bob the Builder, right? Or balcony bob?

  49. Lol, these are some classic posts! But why are we digging up old posts? I guess I missed something discussed during the live chat, no? Dammit, I’m going to have to look for a new job, I’ve missed last three. This *CAN NOT* continue!

  50. Manny, I think Bob the Builder is Duck-bill, etc. No, he was never banned. Neither were Rod or Boom Boom. They just went away.

Sally! We’re going to the most expensive restaurant in Buffalo. Your treat.

  51. 7:30 starter tonight, kids.

Hey, since we didn’t have a winner in the ticket contest, anybody got any suggestions?

  52. I will have nothing to do with that instrument of evil, ilb.

If you’re getting it, though, I hope you enjoy it!

  53. Oh. Nice detective work, Carp.

Duck-BILL is pretty much my favorite poster EVER. Pico-de-pato is hysterical.

  54. ilb, the company is getting me an iPhone 4S or some such thing. Do they make good paperweights? Coasters? What the hell am I going to do with one of those things?

  55. I thought if no one wins then things always go to Sally.

We could donate them to Garden of Dreams.

  56. I was kidding, Latona, I remember how you feel about Apple….

There are expensive restaurants in Buffalo? How expensive can the chicken wings be anyway? :-)

  57. Latona, referring to yourself (himself) in the third person? Are you trying to cause trouble?

    Carp’s getting upset.

  58. Carp, take it…You’ll figure it out later. My wife uses about 10% of it’s capability, and it’s still more advanced than most. Not sure if Siri would understand your Italian accent, otherwise it could get you to Mausoleum without any troubles :-)

  59. Carp, lets go to the Chop House and we can put our credit cards in a hat, pull them out one by one, and the last one in there buys dinner! I think I saw that happen on tv once!

Just kiddin, how about I take you out for a chicken finger sub at Jim’s Steakout?

Manny knows what’s up. I want those tickets. I earned them!

  60. I know, ilb. Just because I don’t like something doesn’t mean I don’t want the rest of you Apple disciples to enjoy it!

Does Carp like his chicken spicy, too?

  61. It’s a chicken finger sub from Jim’s Steakout! They’re really good at 2:00am. With onion rings!

  62. Chicken fingers (we don’t call it “Buffalo” chicken here, cause it’s kind of redundant), blue cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, extra wing sauce. Nom nom nom.

  63. I’d make sure you have your will signed and sealed before adding the blue cheese to that thingy…

  64. Ria(the silent bonehead) on

Well I went back & checked and I do think there was a winner Carp! Prust saying . Hi Sally!

  65. Hi Ria Tortilla! I’m the winner, right?

We call them Manny chicken wings, actually.

  66. Ria(the silent bonehead) on

Also I think firetorts, ratface , & loneranger are one and the same -BOB . NYR your right Bob is ruining Ranger Rants can’t believe Andrew is still allowing him in there.

  67. Ria(the silent bonehead) on

Where did everyone go ? Have I said too much? Okay i’ll leave so everyone can come back BYe BYE

  68. Carp, one thing you won’t do with an iphone is listen to the sound bites posted here. But then again, since you’re the one recording & posting them I guess you’ve heard them already!

Anyone got any tricks or hacks to get Flash working on an iphone?

  69. Hambone, I am sooooooooo ready for a couple of those sangwiches. no blue cheese, though.

Baby Buffalo Baby Buffalo chicken sandwiches. I’ll bring my bottle of lipitor.

Ria, are you messing with me, or did somebody really pick 4-1 Devils?

    ilb, who’s Siri?

  70. iWicky (Leeloo Dallas mul-ti-pass) on

I thnk some aasenhat threatened boom boom after his cherry death comment!

  71. some large asshat who once possessed the world’s most persistent cold and enjoys crease-clearing defensemen?

  72. Ria, as terrifying as you are, I was really just driving home and picking up some lucky beer. You can’t get rid of me that easily! Mwahaha!

Carp, yeah I don’t go anywhere without my chewable tums.

  73. Ria(the silent bonehead) on

Carp no one had the correct score but one person did Have Clarkson with the winning goal & they also had the shots at 26-29. Sally DON’T you be drinking & driving at the same time young lady !!!!!!

  74. Ria(the silent bonehead) on

Just give the tickets to Sally PLEASE so we don’t have to do the contest again THANK YOU very much

  75. Good point, Ria. These contests are horrible for our team. Just burn the freakin’ tickets!

  78. Lev, it IS delicioso. And “healthy” in the same way that carrot cake is “healthy”.

  79. dubinsky.

    others are gametime decision.

    biron in goal.

that’s why we have a twitter widget ——–>

  80. I checked the widget numerous times, Carp. Figured you might have something more up to date.

  81. As many people keep bringing up how Girardi’s TOI has to be cut back to stop him burning out, I thought I’d check a bit more closely.

His average TOI the first 50 games: 27:32
His average TOI the last 15 games: 24:11

  82. Carp:

any guess who you think might also be out? I’d rather he played Bickel at forward and scratched Scott, but that would also mean having to play either Woywitka or Stralman who he seems to have zero confidence in. I dunno.

lineup is going to be pretty ugly tonight.

  83. I’ve asked before….someone explain to me the purpose of Scott…..seriously…..

  84. Rules: “Finally, if still somehow tied, I will either give the tickets to Sally or flip a coin at Blog HQ … or I will wait for the next time I see the donor at a game and let him flip the coin.”

    1. Lets do another Sunday night.
    2. Send one to me. Doesn’t hurt to ask. ;)

  85. Scott serves no purpose. He may have served some purpose on paper before he actually got in the lineup and we learned that no one is actually going to fight him. So, all that having Scott in the lineup accomplishes is a body to fill a jersey. He’s a talentless goon.

  86. Or as David Lee Roth once said, “Awe wtb I’ll pay you for em’.”

Then donate the money to Garden of Dreams.

  87. I’d guess Stralman goes back in, Bickel plays some forward maybe. Mitchell will play. Maybe Scott gets to play against his former team tomorrow. Plays April 3. Maybe a few more if everything’s clinched.

I don’t see his purpose, either. I have no idea of Konopka or Carkner or any other goons still play for the Sens. Carkner has fought Scott in the past. Konopka won’t go near him, neither will Neil.

disagree that the coach has zero confidence in Stralman. Why, because he was scratched once?

lineup is going to be ugly because Dubinsky’s not playing? wha?

  88. Dammit, I forgot it was 7:30….Are we worrying about Scott or Mitchell being in the lineup again?

  89. because Tortorella publicly called Stralman out. judging by how he’s dealt with other fringe players after criticizing them publicly, it takes him a while to put guys back in once that happens, and usually after one of the other guys plays his way into the press box.

and when you’re possibly dressing Anton Stralman and John Scott, and playing John Mitchell on the second line, that’s an ugly lineup.

  90. Dubinsky got beat up because of those dumb comments he made about Clarkson. Dubi needs to whine less, and score more. That’s how you’ll shut the opposition up. Grow up!

  91. So Dubinsky is going to be sorely missed, Lloyd? Are you saying that?

I’d venture a guess that the record is pretty decent with Stralman in the lineup, and with Mitchell in the lineup. And Tortorella’s not in love with Stralman, but I think it’s a gross exaggeration to say he has zero confidence in him.

  92. Let’s Go Rangers!

So, Dubi’s out because he got his nose smashed in. Anybody that’s worth something not playing tonight?

With Girardi and Del Zotto banged up I think Biron better have his A+ game tonight. They could probably use a break, but what are you going to do? If Sauer was available then it might be doable, but all they’ve got is McD, Staal and a bunch of 7th d-men.

As for Scott, how in the world did he ever make it to the NHL. They should have a rule that a player has to have skills better than an 8-year old. He’s nothing but a big oaf.

  93. Lloyd:

““It was just a matter of time,” Dubinsky said on Feb. 27. “I knew it was coming. It was just a matter of time before somebody was gonna fight him. He seems to always turn away from the tougher guys, and not taking anything away from myself, but he likes to say no a lot and then go after other guys. So that’s just the way it is.”

  94. ps, first two lines prob:
Anisimov-Stepan-Gaborik, Hagelin-Richards-Callahan. If Mitchell plays with Prust and Boyle, or if Fedotenko plays there, it’s really not a lot different than their regular lineup.

  95. Sigh…..just catching up. I will still wear my 16 jersey….in my house I guess….mother hratnell….ignominous end…

  96. Would I rather have Brandon Dubinsky playing than either Stu Bickel or John Scott? As mediocre as Dubinsky is, he’s vintage Jarri Kurri compared to those.

And the Rangers have a great record when John Mitchell is a second line player? Can you pass along those score sheets?

Also, you’re splitting hairs about Stralman. Play whatever semantics game you’d like, he’s barely part of this lineup and has had about as much to do with the Rangers success as have you.

  97. Sally, I still love your Gomer….:)

Oy…note to neighbors….hallway is not a playground for your screeching child….OK…ta for a while now….LGR!!!
