It’s Go Time!

Game 62.

The Rangers will be without Ryan Callahan (bruised foot) and Michael Del Zotto (hip). Jeff Woywitka takes Del Zotto’s spot on defense. John Scott stays in the lineup in Callahan’s place. Steve Eminger will be prucha’d.

Henrik Lundqvist starts in goal, coming off his shutout win over the Devils.

John Tortorella, still mad at Brandon Dubinsky over his mindless penalty last night, said Dubinsky would be sitting if the Rangers had more healthy forwards.

Ya boys have won three in a row and are 12-3-2 in their last 17. Tampa Bay has won five of its last seven.

The Rangers are 8-1-1 in the second game of back-to-backs this season.

  1. Grrrr, I knew the Go Time post was coming and yet…

    MickeyM March 2nd, 2012 at 7:05 pm

I agree that he did, Jimbo. That was insanely stupid, even for him.

OH and Happy 30th to Hank! He shares his bday with my sister, which makes today even better!

  2. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

Jimbo, left you a reply on previous thread!

  3. OK, so you torch the guy, telling him you need him to step up and you demote him to 4th line center? MMkay, Torts.

  4. My pregame is Big Bang Theory. Not sure whether I would prefer the actual pregame to this.

  5. LGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

warming up with some UFC on fuel!!!! prust style!!!!!!

  6. JimboWoodside on

CARPED! I knew it was imminent!

Yeah, Happy 30th birthday to the King – he had his present last night, in the form of a game that he didn’t have to play in – I hope the team plays well in front of him tonight.

  7. well Mickey he did say that he’d be benched if he had any other players available… 4th line is as good as a bench i guess.

  8. Dubi should vent to the media like Universe about how he’s going to have warm tea in his thermos and enjoy the bench….

  9. one guy that Id love to have in a Rangers uniform is Martin St. Louis. he’s a magician.

  10. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

definitely a different feeling when your kid worries about you lol

  11. I’m in! Lindzo! Screw the tornados, eh? Guess you don’t have to text me since you’ll be here after all.

  12. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

hell Ilbzo, we’re under a watch until 9 pm, i could lose power at any minute lol!!! if that happens i’ll text ya lol you can keep me updated on the game then heehee

  13. Ya know, I wonder if Torts will actually bench Dubi tonight anyways. As in, he dresses, but never sees a second of ice time. Didn’t that happen to some player in the last few year? I can’t remember.

  14. Hope AA gets a hat trick and.unleashes a machine gun, see how tough Stamkos is with no Downie .

    LGR !!!!!

  15. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

HELLO, enough of this live look in, put the damned Rangers Bolts game on ya mickey mouse of a network!

  16. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

it’s good to know that a maximum security prison got hit and ‘all inmates are secure’

    LETS GO RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. czechthemout!!!! on

For those of you who have Direct Tv , you can watch Kreider play tonight on channel 613.

  18. He sits….I don’t know if he has a sign….he may. Probably something Boston related :-)

  19. Torts is already grumpy. Doing stupid stuff tonight might actually make him strangle someone.

  20. JimboWoodside on

Argh! Torts is gonna bench Girardi next….

Debbies up 3-0 near end of the 1st in Washington – man, the Caps are brutal in goal..

  21. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

i was just gonna type that ilbzo.. he killed a lot of time back there

Three stars of the 1st period:

    1. Latona
    2. Linzo
    3. ilbster
    4. Orrsie

  23. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

    aaaaaaw ducky xoxo lol

hows this for insane… a family who lost their home in last April’s tornado outbreak, moved into their rebuilt home last month, and it was destroyed today. with that, I’d freakin move

  24. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

lmfao @ he couldn’t stop! stopping is overrated, just crash through the boards lol

  25. Just watched the savior Kreider get burnt twice by two different skaters from unranked Vermont …kid has a LONG WAY TO GO’

  26. Dubinsky is centering Scott and Rupp.

I’m sure that’s what Sather had envisioned when he gave him that bloated contract.

  27. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

seems like several homes on the same road were hit again after just having been rebuilt. that’s just insane.

and they say the place where i live… which was demolished in 89, it’s getting close to it’s time to be hit again. Hopefully we’ll have moved before that lol

  28. JimboWoodside on

    >>>Who will enter scrims from the bench now that Downie is gone?

Scrims!? Are you a Lighting Director!? ;-D

  29. JimboWoodside on

Let them get all the shots in the period – we score the goals!!

  30. That is a picture perfect example of Rangers hockey. Relentless forecheck pressure leading to a nice scoring chance and a goal

  31. (good shift there by dubi too to start all the pressure, but shhh don’t tell torts!)

  32. If he would just shoot more, he could become a factor. he has a GREAT wrist shot.

  33. unless Dubi gets his head and on ice act together
in the rest of the season/playoffs
    he’s gone
    chemistry or no chemistry
for a pick or something over the summer.

  34. JimboWoodside on

Maybe Artie wants to make the Bolts pay for that mugging he took after the “rifle” episode…

  35. JimboWoodside on

“The Big Whistle” is yelling down at Artie from Ranger Heaven saying “Shoot the Puck, Artie – Shoot the Puck”!!

  36. Dubi is too busy looking for marketing deals and trying to become #16 to actually succeed at hockey. Much like his mentor he’ll find out how relevant he is outside NYC next year. Hope that fiancé like middle America. Pop Chips all around.

  37. JimboWoodside on

McD is just covering for Girardi – if he makes some goofs too, maybe Torts won’t bench Danny…

  38. JimboWoodside on

Gotta put the full press on in the offseason to take that kid away from the Debbies – they’re nearly bankrupt already, and maybe we can send them into a Phoenix-style money tailspin..

  39. JimboWoodside on

I’m not content to just beat them – I want to put them out-of-business!

  40. there ya go
    Dubi on 4th line
    because he can’t figure out
    that there’s no Ranger
in the front of the net
    nor does he bother to
    get the shot on net.

    waste of effort/time

  41. Like I was right with Nash not coming, I’m telling you, Parise will NOT be a Ranger, comes July. Mark my words. Unfortunate, but true.

  42. caught an elbow while being sandwiched. a bit wobbly and heading to the lockerroom…

  43. I’m sure, AA will compensate us both – Nash and Parise in scoring department

  44. of course a game I go to and the refs won’t call any penalties for us. that wAs not. a penalty on mcdonagh. I’m sitting right near there. right behind rangers penalty box told boyle GO GIANTS lol. and no boston sign ilb, u little dirtbag, u

  45. JimboWoodside on

Dubiiii – stop texting during the game – you’re gonna get even further into the doghouse! ;-D

  46. czechthemout!!!! on

You are do full of it. Kreider needs as long a way to go as Stepan did.

  47. Tomorrow I’ll be at the game, if will be able to wake up so early. Who else, guys?

  48. JimboWoodside on

    >>>Parise just got sandwiched and looks hurt pretty bad

Well, if he’s not coming here, hit him again, then!

  49. better beans on

Jimbo: 2 minutes for gratuitous Big Whistle reference.
I can hear him sayin’ it:-).

Last two games – evidence why so many think Artie can do.
Another reason glad no Rick, for now.

around 13 minutes. Lightning wearing out Hank. Rangers finally
get puck. Gabby takes it. One of the Dotage Detail immediately
says, “Tampa next.” Gang way of saying Gabby will give it up.
Gabby does, with curious pass across ice where two Bolts wait.
He’s gotta make better decisions come playoffs, so max time can
be spent in o-zone, where his gifts can be maximized.
I like guys who take risks. But my favs are the guys who consistently
pull up short of foolishness. Be my fav, Gabby.

    4th line, excellent!

  50. czechthemout!!!! on

By the way, despite being in the lead, that was a terrible first period. Bad on defense, and zero on offense. This is why the King should be considered for the Hart trophy.

  51. better beans on

    Yeah, Dubi did.

Need more than that. Need consistent high-energy,
    forceful and smart play.

  52. I will go to MSG with dear friend of mine, who happened to be a Bruins fan (he was born and raised in Berkshires, MA), so sorry Tiki , but if you will be over there, and we meet, do not try to start with him… – guy is much bigger, like this Scott

  53. JimboWoodside on

Well, somebody had to take the fall – I think the Leaf goalies deserve to be fired, but they can’t do that.

  54. JimboWoodside on

I guess the Leaf management wanted to make headlines in advance of the Leafs-Habs game on HNIC tomorrow night..

Finally! Gabby caught up to “Scotty” Hartnell, Sam’s enamorata…….

  58. did tampa fans really just boo Richards getting the assist? GROW UP… then again some Rangers fans booed Jagr so…..

  59. on Center Ice i’m watching the game on
    NHL Network
is it on another channel other than those
    who have msg?

  60. relentless. aggressive forecheck. yes Linda. I thought the same thing when he said that. Thats what it really is too.

I also thought about that NBC “expert” Milblowy calling it a trap. ha.

  61. JimboWoodside on

Why thank you, Lin!! Better Beans liked my mention of “The Big Whistle” above, but then he gave me a 2-minute penalty for it! Not sure why I got time in the sin-bin for that…?

  62. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

tomb, i just sat here and reveled in those words used to describe our team.. relentless and aggressive!

  63. bad shift that started
with ref not making call no McD
    getting spun around

McD almost got to the puck

  64. sheeezus!! Dubi with same pathetic backhand move around the net. not work either time.

  65. Good shift. But still not great in own zone. That’s when the Captain comes in and starts hitting people…

  66. Wow. When did Brad Richards learn to play hockey ?? He looks really good lately. Especially in this game

  67. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

dubi, instead of standing there, open armed, looking for a penalty, get back in the play

  68. JimboWoodside on

Not at all, 4ever – I was rooting for one tonight, too – a birthday present.

  69. Can someone please tell me why and how the Rangers are not peppering this goalie, Garon?
He’s an average goalie at best, and they have 9 measly shots. What in the Prust is going on here?
Please don’t tell me it’s because Callahan and MDZ are out. They have plenty of players to make life difficult for this goalie. It’s kind of embarrassing when you think about it.
They are also 8-1-1 on the back end of back-to-back games, so that’s not an excuse either.

  70. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

lmao jpg, looks like several of us were thinking the same thing lol

TN & GA having issues now…one more hour here unless the extend the watch

  71. Dubi
    no brains
Rupp is right there for the pass
    and Dubi finally shoots it

at least he didn’t try the backhand move again

  72. Does anyone have a link? I cant seem to find a working one anywhere..It would be much appreciated.

  73. i guess Dubi feels his spot is safe
    now that trade deadline passed
and Sather was only putting him
    in the package for Nash
    and wasn’t really looking
at sending him for anyone else
(damn Brown had to have a hat trick!!!)

  74. JimboWoodside on

Gmen – maybe because TB has had the puck most of the night – look at the shot differential – our guys haven’t had the puck much..

  75. none of this would be happening (possibly)
if Prust would have slammed the tb
    against the boards

  76. But they couldn’t trade Dubinsky.

    He’s apart of the core
He plays hard along the boards
    He tires really hard
He tries to control the puck good

  77. Jimbo – I understand Tampa’s had the puck all night, but the Rangers have been a better puck possession team this year.
Lecavalier is out as well, and he’s at least 2a with St Louis, so this is kind of mind boggling to me.
They should have at least 3 or 4 goals on this guy if they fired away at him all night.

  78. czechthemout!!!! on

Despite the lead, yet another bad period.
When Carp writes his review for this game tonight, it won’t take him that long. All he has to type is Lundquist in very big bold letters once with an exclamation point.

  79. we have been out played all night lucky to have lead after 2.

this is what i am afraid of come playoff time when hank has to be invincible because we chase the puck all night

  80. better beans on

I get what you’re sayin’ about puck possession.
Share the worry for second season.

Counter to that, the Rangers are as good in their own zone
as any Ranger team I can remember.

Aside: what a pure hockey pleasuer to watch Stamkos.
    Onomatopoeia on ice WHOOOOOSSSSHHHHHHH!!!!

  81. Hagelin is a monster on the forecheck. especially for a small guy among giants. pretty darned good.

dont think about the Calder though. Landeskogg on the Avs is an amazingly mature and strong player for a rookie. 40 pts, +21 he doesnt look like arookie at all to me. granted he was drafted waaaaaay higher. Colorado got the benefit of some good picks by sucking for a few years here.

youngest team in the league. they will make the playoffs.

    Rangers will take this game.

Dubi is gonna slip one through next period. ha ha.

    yea baby!!

  82. Relax, not their best performance, but they are up by one. Let’s see what they have left on them in the third. 4 th line has been on the ice a fair amount. Anyone has the numbers?

  83. except for moments in our zone
    i really don’t think that we’re playing
    that horrible
even when we didn’t have a lot of
    shots on net.

  84. so you think we’re throwing the game as a thank you
for tb winning game 82 last season?

  85. Fedotenko has been horrible. Didn’t even challenge the point man on that, left the lane to Stamkos, of all people, wide open.

  86. JimboWoodside on

They’ve lost the handle on this game – looked to have things in control, but now this – and a penalty! Crap!

  87. this announcer is pretty good compared to NBC d-bags.

He sounds like Norm McDonald from SNL.

uh oh I just that horn. oh no. and now a penalty.

    Happy Birthday Hank!

  88. czechthemout!!!! on

This is expected. No offense at all. You cannot rely on the king to give up less than two goals every damn game. Not good.

  89. They should be losing 7-2 right now. They’ve been completely outplayed for 2 periods.

  90. well i take back what i said earlier
about our player being not too bad.

    right now, it’s bad.
maybe we spent too much time in the sun today.

  91. 26-1-2 first loss after leading after 2nd.

    thanks sam .

games like this drive me freaking crazy where they chase and chase all night long

  92. JimboWoodside on

It’s not over yet, eric – but they’ve gotta hold the line right here…

  93. yes let’s use the injuries excuse!! common people…we’re being deservedly outscored because we’ve been outplayed the entire game.

  94. no excuses with injuries tonight.

the more desperate team is in control all night.

tell you one thing if we hold on to 1st i dont want to see stamkos in seven game series

  95. again
i think we have trouble with speed.
it’s something that’s going to need
    addressed in the off season
no matter what happens in the playoffs.

  97. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

that is straight out of the “TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION” files

  98. good for him scoring that goal but let’s not make it any bigger than it is. although either way this game turns out of course MSG will be drooling all over post game.

I know this sound I’m hearing in Tampa. It’s the sound of fans trying to be as loud as invading Rangers fans.

  100. Im right here. Please, the guy finally took advantage of a situation presented to him in a silver platter.

He still only has 7 goals.

  101. czechthemout!!!! on

Torts needs to stop his John Mitchell obsession. He I a minor league player.

  102. “eat it haters”
    made me laugh

    thought it referred to those
who had us losing the game in regulation
    not in regards to Dubi

    so, ilb
    which is it?

  103. duckbill Plat-y-pus on

calliehan has been getting in the way of Dubi’s game!! taking all the good ice time!!

  104. That goal doesn’t make his season better. But he played a good game before he scored, and yet he was bashed by many here…

  105. no, he played a good third period, otherwise he played 2 pretty average, if not disappointing periods.

  106. Dubi goes from scoring to not checking hard enough in OT and the Rangers lose. Way to be Dubi.

  107. what worries me about that is
seeing Hank too deep in the paint again.

hope that was just a fluke and not him
going back to his negative ways

  108. JimboWoodside on

Hank looked screened or fooled by that last goal – not his best performance, overall….

  109. Did the better team win this game? Yes

Are we still atop the east and now leading by 10 freaking points?! YES!

  110. Yup, Hank was upset he didn’t save this one. Even though it was a tough shot, he tends to get those…Oh, well.

  111. 3 of 4 points on the road in back to backs. I’ll take those.

Not the greatest of games by them, but hey, a point is a point and Stamkos is just a beast.

  112. JimboWoodside on

That hurts – it just hurts – I thought we had ’em lined up for an OT or SO win….

  113. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan on

    i’m with Mickey, 3 out of 4 b2b

i expect a much better effort on Sunday vs the brewins. early start, and hopefully we’ll have our Captain back, although i’m thinking we won’t see him for 2 more weeks…

  114. JimboWoodside on

I’ve always thought that Ryan Malone would look good in a Ranger jersey…but tonight, screw you, Ryan!

  115. Tampa deserved to win. The Rangers were horrible (looked tired) for 40 minutes.

Dubi should’ve played that much better in OT on that goal, but the Rangers didn’t deserve to win anyway. Justice was served. They’ll be back at it on Sunday, not worried.

  116. JimboWoodside on

I know, ilb – but I thought it would be us doing the cheering when the OT ended..

  117. Jonny D – not sure they looked tired, to me they looked more disinterested. Not the better of efforts, this is when you take a point and run.

  118. They didn’t skate hard, that’s for sure. But I think they were a bit tired too. Either way you know Torts is going to rip them.

  119. ilb2001 March 2nd, 2012 at 10:14 pm
Teddy Purcell and Boyle are very close friends…

I’d rather have Teddy than his Rangers buddy ;)

  120. Wow, Tampa may actually make it…Jets played two more games, and Washington is free falling…

  121. I’m happy, they got a point. There isn’t that many teams in the league who gets something out of nothing like the rangers this year and if they apply this to the playoffs they will make noise. Especially if lundqvist is on his game, look out, of course, like I’ve stated before, they need to stay healthy.

  122. better beans on

Intersecting screen on the winner for Bonnie Prince Hal (demoted from King:-).

Gabby gets possession to start OT, gets to o-zone, immediately tries to split
defenders – a one-in-ten, one-in-twenty move. Gotta start makin’ better decisions
when Rs have crucial possession. Low percentage plays equal low percentage

First time in a good while, #27 does not get an “A” for his game. On the scene
    for two regulation scores.

I enjoyed this game. Thought Rs were not as bad as some of you. I do think
other coaches will pay attention to TB tapes if they’re playin’ the Blueshirts
    in a few weeks.

Muy glad to see Artie taking faceoffs. Give Derek some needed rest, see if he
    can find his best game.

Great score by Dubenchsky. Wow! If he can find it, as so many of you think he
now will, what a boon. As someone said earlier today: great trade after deadline:
this year’s dubi for last year’s:-).

Prust makes great passes to the crease (as do a half-dozen other Rangers) – and
rarely anyone there. Why is that?

Torts with great, productive timeout on 5-3. Like the way he uses it at any time.

They missed the two regular parts of the gang at important moments this time.

Dan G needed stickum early, heavier sword late. Great setup by BR. Great.
WE should now credit him with eight game-winners. Kudos to Stamkos playin’
    game-savin’ ‘D”.

Like Mickey and others, I’ll take the point. Thought Tampa played with great
    post-flu energy.

At 2-0, did Rangers, consciously or not, start lookin’ to Sunday?

Love the fact this was a Low-G game. (Low-goonery). Kid Scott looked more than OK.

    Good night!

  123. Washington is a mess but they are missing two key players in Green and Backstrom. Oh and their goaltending situation totally blows. They shoulda kept Jose three-or-more…he’s having a nice season for the Florida

  124. JimboWoodside on

Lost a game that we led 2-0 – I don’t care what anyone says, that shouldn’t have happened – silver linings aside.

  125. >>Is Washington negotiating with Anaheim in trying to get Bruce Boudreau back yet?

Or they can negotiate with Ron Wilson; he just became a free agent.

  126. Our guys ARE tired; it was exposed on PK when they let it in. All 4 were uncharacteristically slow, barely moving feet and were late to cover shooting line. Goal against was a result. Getting timely back was a problem too. It’s a little bit disturbing, considering that it is only a beginning of very tough schedule and series of games. Add fuzzy situation with our key injuries and it looks gloomy for concerned Rangerland citizens.

  127. Or, for sure, Jimbo. Surprise it hasn’t happened more til now. But that’s why you create that healthy cushion. And Staal says there is no satisfaction in this point. They are staying thirsty, it looks.

  128. Very nice response from Dubi…if he actually got the message and can bring that level of competition forward this team gets a lot better. His goal was $$$MONEY$$$.

Hank looked UPSET postgame…you don’t see him like that very often, win or lose.

  129. Scott is too slow, torturously to watch, it takes him like forever just to turn around. I wonder how he was playing in such fast pace team like Chicago?

  130. JimboWoodside on

I hear you, ilb – no arguments there – they aren’t happy about the loss, and they shouldn’t be.

  131. JimboWoodside on

OK, off goes MSG – I certainly can’t take the Cockroach’s voice after a Ranger loss…..

  132. Oh, that’s the guy you’ve been talking about? Carton? First time I see him live. I got it now. TV off.

  133. stranger nation on

Stralman with a VERY tough 3rd period in his own end.

Covering Stamkos on his go-ahead goal- check.

Covering Malone on his Game Winner – check

    Bickels looked OK

Hags is the best! Love watching that kid play.

  134. JimboWoodside on

That Stamkos goal looked like a near-perfect shot, though – right off/under the crossbar. The final goal, not so much..

  135. I mean, they can easily go 6-13 in the next 19 games…..And still get more than 100 points :-)

  136. Vermont at Boston College on CBS Sports Network.. HD is 793 for me on Cablevision.. Kreider!

  137. Tiki XLII XLVI on

Damn it. I didnt do anything wrong all game. I sat in my seat all game, only got up to cheer our three goals. Yelled forward, not at anyone. Was really excited about the Dubi goal, it was really huge. Had a conversation w. the guy next to me throughout the game, was very friendly, yet when they won, he got right in my face, and yelled and goes you did it all game long. Byfugliening piece of carcillo. He hartnelling invaded my personal space, I should have spit in his face, but Im a god damn pussycat, so I just took it like a beach. Hartnell me!

Im just a hartnelling agitator. No matter what I do, I agitate.

  138. Tiki,

You should have told him to check the standings. Don’t beat yourself up over it! Can’t win them all.. just make sure you keep up your anti-agitating ways here at RR because it’s nice having you around again.

  139. better beans on

Just a quickie: Torts made several references to “hurt”
    and “tired.”
Wonder what his plans are – how important pushing front-line guys,
especially on that “D” so heavily used early this year, to get “X”
number of points, “Y” position in standings, versus benefiting
    them with planned rest?

  140. Rangers West on

But seriously, I am curious to see what happens with Kreider. I read an article yesterday claiming he would join the Rangers this year for the playoffs and that he would be more than able to do so. Sather made a weird cryptic remark about it and Brooks has said it’s possible. I tend to believe mid way next season is the earliest we’d see him. Anybody here believe in this season? Just curious. With the Nash talk gone and Avery forgotten, there has to be something to geek out over, right?

  141. “eat it haters? seriously? yes his entire season is now vindicated.”

Lev- Probably much the same as ilb has said, but basically Dubi played a damn strong game from the start (absolutely flawless, no -nobody ever does) but as far as _tonight’s_ game is concerned, people here (haters) were byfuglien ridiculous with their criticism.

better beans – “I do think other coaches will pay attention to TB tapes if they’re playin’ the Blueshirts
    in a few weeks.”

I can watch tape of Roger Bannister running a sub 4 minute mile – doesn’t mean I’m capable of doing it. (I’m also sure Pens don’t need video to be chomping at the bit)

ORR- Yeah, Dublowsky played a good third period, and good for him, tying it up. But, seven goals? First goal in thirteen games? I’m not holding my breath.

He actually played 3 good periods, but that’s irrelevant. My point is, it’s about what he does from NOW that matters. If he plays like a 10 , 25 or 30 goal scorer from here on out that’s what matters, and that’s what he is.
