From the Rangers:

RANGERS ACQUIRE A THIRD ROUND PICK IN 2013 AND DEFENSEMAN MICHAEL VERNACE

Send Forward Wojtek Wolski to Florida

New York, February 25, 2012 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired a third round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and defenseman Michael Vernace from Florida in exchange for forward Wojtek Wolski.

Vernace, 25, has split the season between the San Antonio Rampage and the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL), registering two goals and 14 assists for 16 points, along with 30 penalty minutes and a plus-five rating in 44 games.  He was traded to Florida, along with James Wright, from Tampa Bay in exchange for Mike Kostka and Evan Oberg on December 2, 2011.  Vernace ranks third among San Antonio defensemen in assists and points, and is tied for second with one power play goal.  He has recorded two multi-point performances this season, including a two-goal effort on October 22 vs. Binghamton and a career-high, three assists on October 29 at Syracuse.

Vernace has skated in 348 career AHL games with Albany, Lake Erie, Chicago, Hamilton, Norfolk, and San Antonio, registering 18 goals and 97 assists for 115 points, along with 288 penalty minutes.  He established career-highs in assists (26) and points (29) with Lake Erie in 2007-08, and established a career-high in goals (seven) with Norfolk in 2010-11.  Vernace has also skated in 22 career regular season games with the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning, registering one assist and 10 penalty minutes.  He made his NHL debut with Colorado on March 17, 2009, at Minnesota, and recorded his first NHL point with an assist on February 15, 2011, vs. Philadelphia as a member of the Lightning.

The Toronto, Ontario native was originally selected by the San Jose Sharks as a seventh round choice, 201st overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Wolski, 26, has registered three assists in nine games with the Rangers this season. He was acquired by the Rangers from Phoenix in exchange for Michal Rozsival on January 10, 2011.

    FOUR MILLION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

    Red Herring

  3. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

Orr, whats on the flavor menu tonight?

  4. Tony from AZ

He’s not here yet is he ?

  5. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

Nothing! I’m giving up B&J’s! At least until they make some new flavors!

I had three pints last night. Went out with a bang!

  6. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

lmao, you must have the metabolism of Flash Gordon

  7. Lev

Penguins blowing out Tampa…4-0 halfway through the game.

  8. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

Yeah, I have great metabolism. I had three pints of B&J’s four days in a row, and I gained five lbs. If Broduer had my metabolism, food probably wouldn’t exist.

  9. Lloyd Braun

so in essence Columbus is looking to fleece the Rangers in order to give them a guy with a roughly $8 million/year contract who’s likely on the downside of his career

    How about colossal byfuglien PASS

  10. Lloyd Braun

what the hell is B&J’s and why are you admitting to it

  11. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

I’m not a fan of this trade possibility AT ALL. besides, we’re paying Richards mad money and he’s Swayzeing again

  12. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

ben and jerrys lloyd.. tasty ice cream. I can’t believe you ate 12 pints in 4 days Orr, that’s just a massive intake

  13. Sally

    Am I banned yet?

    Oh COME on.

  14. Lloyd Braun

is Orr a depressed fat lady with a lot of cats

  15. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

LMFAO Sally! and don’t go SELF BANNING

  16. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

nah lloyd, he’s a young whippersnapper who can eat 12 pints of ice cream in 4 days and probably work it off in 2

  17. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

I don’t even have to work it off. I go to sleep, and it all just disappears. Maybe eating B&J’s is all in my imagination, and I’m not even eating it.

  18. Lloyd Braun

    how young, though

when I was in my 20s, I could down philly cheesesteaks from Carl’s along with a bag of fries about 5 minutes before going to bed without gaining a pound. of course I was also drunk so that may have helped.

  19. Sally

Lin, it’s like the blog is a delicious pint of B&Js and I am ORR. Can’t help myself.

  20. johhnyboy

Pens announcers are making strange sex noices over this.game.

  21. oleosmirf

when was the last time Glen Sather made a trade that wasn’t in our favor???? His trades are always money….

  22. Tony from AZ

B& J’s, oh now I get it. I thought it was just BJ’s

  23. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

    LMFAO SALLY!!!!

so, provided his plane gets in on time, WoWo will be in the lineup for the panthers…

  24. Sally

    You would, Tony.

  25. Chris

    re: the last post

can everyone who keeps bemoaning Avery and suggesting he could score a game seven game winning goal please get over it… He isnt the hockey player he was 4 years ago when he helped us win that devils series

  26. LW3H

“When was the last time Glen Sather made a trade that wasn’t in our favor?”

The Werek for Lindberg deal (or Europansygeddon) will resonate with the sound of failure for the next 200 years.

Why did I think putting on the Penguins feed of a game they are 4-0 up would be anything other than horrendously puke-inducing? Apparently, they are the first team in NHL history to kill off a penalty and the first to have a player block a shot towards the end of a PK shift.

  27. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

that’s absolutely amazing battle level preparedness by the pen()S LW. You should be honored at having viewed it as it happened!

  28. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

people are actually believing something incarcerated bob is saying?

  29. fchamps

“downside of his career” at 27. So ridiculous.

  30. LW3H

Hey, ibob was dead on about Richards being traded to either the Rangers or Leafs (or somebody else) at the deadline last year.

  31. Manny Astronomo

ORR! Don’t let them get you down.

  32. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

someone mentioned he said Carter to the Leafs, and he winds up in LA. Hilarious

  33. LW3H

    fchamps

“Downside of career” doesn’t mean a player is done, just that it’s relatively rare for players to increase their production beyond their mid-20s. CTB will be along to draw a chart later.

  34. LW3H

Jesus, the Pens broadcast even has these little vignettes during the commercials summarising the hitherto unknown careers of unheralded players such as Crosby and Malkin.

  35. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

lmfao @ draw a chart! Kinda like Sally’s Avery Flow Chart?

  36. miked

    what is incarcerated bob suggesting?

  37. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

    Never, Manny!

  38. LW3H

Fleury just made some saves on the PK. Described as an “unbelievable” event.

  39. Lloyd Braun

    fchamps:

unless you think Nash is a Hall of Famer, and history suggests that it’s primarily hall of famers who maintain the kind of production Nash had (operative word is hard btw.) he’s got nowhere to go but down. that doesn’t mean he’ll put up Dubinsky 2011-12 numbers next season, but he means you’re not getting what you paid for.

  40. Manny Astronomo

    Oh great. Look who’s back!

  41. Eric

Watch wolski score an overtime winner against us in playoffs. 1 8 matchup perhaps

  42. Yev Kassem

WojtekWolski86 Thanks to the @nyrangers for the opportunity the last 2 seasons. Sad to leave nyc but very excited about playing for the Florida Panthers

    Class on the way out…

  43. Lloyd Braun

he got no opportunity at all, the poor bastard

  44. LW3H

There must be a significant electrocution risk (I hope) from all the drooling Steigerwald and Errey do on their microphones.

  45. oleosmirf

people focus way too much on how much a specific player makes. Its not guys like Nash or Richards that get a team into trouble its a fluky/aging players like Ville Leino, Wade Redden that cause a team cap problems

As long as Nash plays like a top line player he is worth the cap hit…

  46. loneranger

Shortly before 3pm Mike Keenan being interviewed on FAN Radio stated that he didn’t think the Rangers were going to get Nash on Monday because there were too many teams in the hunt and that Sather wasn’t going to give Columbus what they wanted

  47. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

Exactly, Oleo. I mentioned it the other day, push comes to shove, you can trade Nash. There’s always teams that are interested in guys like that, even if they’re not scoring 40-50 goals, like they’re expected to do, like Dany Heatley.

  48. eric

steigerwald and errey i despise. hate them as much i hate the pens prob more

  49. johnnyboy

Malkin with a hat trick…. now the best forward that ever was!!

  50. Lev

7-1 Penguins lead…feel bad for Rolly the Goalie….

  51. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

It’s amazing how bad Roloson is compared to last season. It’s like he’s a completely different goalie. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t retire after this season.

  52. eric

    whos the fake eric

  53. LW3H

Thing is, it’s pretty obvious to everyone just how good Malkin is. It diminishes him having these two dopes fawning over him to such a ridiculous degree to point it out.

  54. Salty

    FAKE ME! DO IT!

  55. CTBlueshirt

    Nash ages 27-28:
    ———\_\

  56. HageLinMcCalPruBoylahan

heading out.. guys please keep my posted with a text if anything happens between now and game time THANKS!!

  57. Staal Wart and the Overachievers

    Something smells…

  58. CTBlueshirt

That didn’t quite appear as I wanted it to.

  59. Lev

someone using my name? im honored! Avery lover probably!

  60. Boom Boom Bathgate

    Oscar Lindberg =

A forward who, when you look at his stats, you think he is a defenseman. Werek looks a lot better, at least on paper.

  61. LW3H

Now on the Blues’ intermission broadcast. Some commercial for a fast food place telling people to go to marrybacon.com. Couldn’t help but read it as martybacon.com.

  62. Vibz

Is somebody really posting under other peoples names? Especially wit stupid cook like the Orr imposter said? Jeez, get a life….is there anything more childish?

  63. NYR_FAN

    Trolls are pathetic…ugh!

  64. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

    They’re Red Herrings! Enough said!

  65. Staal Wart and the Overachievers

an asshat is about to get banned…Prust sayin…

  66. fchamps

    Mike Keenan knows nothing.

  67. Lev

anyone got some febreeze? it stinks…

  68. I Rarely Speak

i hope after get nash we can actually be HAPPY that we acquired a top notch talent

  69. Rod

    VeryClose?

  70. Staal Wart and the Overachievers

    Rarely, you’ve been speaking alot lately…Not a bad thing…;-)

  71. ilb2001

    It certainly looks it, Rod….

  72. I Rarely Speak

i enjoy this board too much.. i have been a silent bonehead back to the sam days.. even more fun participating staal!

  73. Manny Astronomo

Yay! Rarely. Keep the handle but post more!

  74. Staal Wart and the Overachievers

Awesome! Comment away!...You may need to change the name though…haha!

  75. Staal Wart and the Overachievers

    LOL Manny!

  76. Staal Wart and the Overachievers

Looks like Carp did some “house keeping”...Bleached the bowl if you will.

  77. oleosmirf

    Boom Boom

    Ethan Werek’s AHL stats: 44 games 4 G 4 A – 11

Not sure where you are getting your info from but Werek has been awful for someone who lacks defensive instincts and allegedly has attitude problems. Lindberg has better numbers (barely though) in a better league and is supposed to be a defensive first player. And he is a year younger too…

  78. 4everanger

    ORR!!
...like stinking, rotten, red herring I would say…

  79. CCCP

hearing there will be changes after 3 PM Monday… this team will have new player(s)... almost a done deal now…and don’t tell me i never told you anything, ungrateful punks!

  80. Matteau!

Nash is an elite world class player and sniper, type that is rarely available. Very few players on this team, including combinations thereof, I would not trade for him. His contract is a non-issue, in 2 years it’s Gabby who’ll be gone or making less.

Who do the Rangers have on the ice with the goalie pulled down by a goal? For a key power play? Tie game late in the third? Who are the 3-4 forwards? For this team to be a cup contender Nash needs to be one of them.

  81. LW3H

    Thanks again, CCCP.

    perfectly said oleo

  83. CTBlueshirt

Rangers lineup remains the same aside from in goal.

  84. Grabby

the werek trade was bad for us at the time only because he was supposed to be very good, but looking at his stats now, doesnt look as one sided

  85. I Rarely Speak

Nash says his teams of where he will go will not increase over the summer.. sounds like hes trying to push towards the Rangers

  86. CTBlueshirt

As long as Nash plays like a top line player he is worth the cap hit…

    ***

That appears to have been a problem with most of the guys the Rangers have picked up in the last 15 or so years no?

  87. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

Nash’s agent saying his list of teams wont change in the summer.

  88. I Rarely Speak

agent also says they are very hopeful that a deal will get done before monday

  89. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

His agent also says that they are very hopeful that a deal will get done before monday ;)

  90. DJK

I’d imagine we’re the only team Nash will waive his NTC to go to. We’ll have him in time to play the Devils on Monday.

  91. NYR_FAN

Wow! Sounds like Ricky really wants to come here!!

  92. oleosmirf

Werek was traded because the Rangers didn’t like his defensive game and that he had problems with his coaches in juniors. The Rangers have always been against prospects with attitude problems.

Instead they traded him for a guy who will need to stay in Sweden to refine his game but will eventually be a solid 3rd line player…

  93. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

I miss Wolski! We’re running out of healthy scratches to throw under the bus!!

  94. Grabby

hey guys, u know we all check the waseka widget!! no need to repeat every 5 seconds lol

  95. I Rarely Speak

we are on the same page orr haha

  96. Grabby

i only appreciate the “inside” information only a certain few are privy to. ok orr!!! lol

  97. LW3H

Lucky VinceA isn’t around to hear all this needless Werek bashing.

  98. Grabby

orr. u needto keep your sugar n lard levels up for the big day monday

  99. NYR_FAN

    LMFAO LW!!

  100. Yev Kassem

Oleosmirf: Who is the swedish player you mentioned?

  101. eric

if anyone going to game i will be in section 330 row g aisle seats come by say hello

text me 516-749-3110 if u want to meet for drink

  102. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

You keep beating me to it, Rarely!!

Grabby, “supposively” some people can’t see the widget. And I have some cheesecake prepared for the big day!!!

  103. Grabby

hey, he could go to the isles. they could use a franchise goalie like deepee. plus u throw in the all star parenteau and bam, cup contenders in 25 years

  104. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

    Carp’s tweeting!

  105. Grabby

really? why cant they see it orr/?

  106. Carp

    Tweet. Tweet.

  107. oleosmirf

    Yev

Oscar Lindberg. He’s not a top prospect or anything but has a good chance to carve out a bottom 6 role in the NHL but will likely be in Sweden for the next 2+ years…

    http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=10711

  108. Grabby

    wheres hagelinda-sanity been? and sallybinsky?

  109. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?!

I think it has something to do where they work, maybe? Not sure!

Blues beat Jets in the shootout. It would be pretty cool if the Jets win the division. I like those Jets. They’re better than the three times defending Super Ball champion New York Jets.

  110. Grabby

ohh, i know where sallys been. haha oook. how silly of me

  111. jpg

    ya know Carp
all this trade talk is making
    me hungry for some
    non-fat yogurt
(at least i’m told it’s non-fat. maybe i’ll get a lab to test it.)

  112. Tony from AZ

Is it safe to post now ?

  113. Rod

Yeah Tony. As long as you don’t mention Nash.

  114. Grabby

u wanna stick with “light” yogurt jpg. its just as healthy, plus the little fat in it helps lubricate your digestive system. after all, the stress of hockey season and trade deadline always makes me constipated. like sitting on a train for 2 days straight.

  115. jpg

    Tony
did someone tell you Warren doesn’t show Rangers games anymore?

  116. HAMBONE

What’s it take to get a 40-hour suspension around here? What’s the virtual equivalent of charging? I’m gonna do that.

  117. Tony from AZ

jpg – Manny said no Ranger games at Warren because of the Time/Warner dispute.
But I’m assuming that’s over now

  118. Grabby

i can give ya somethin to do for awhile

  119. Grabby

ohh jeez, hambone. i didnt recognize ur altr ego. sorry!!!

  120. I Rarely Speak

i also think nash getting thrown into this race will energize him not hinder him

  121. HAMBONE

Is it too early to go to the pub and get my pre-game drink on?

  122. Sally

D’oh. I forgot to change my name back. Hi Grabbywaffles! Are you still on facebook.com?

  123. Grabby

yes sally, im still there. hardly use it but i go on to check mal n suff. dnt realy chat with anyone anymore. my work schedule iscrazy so when i get on, its usually bedtime for everyone.

  124. Carp

    new post.

  125. better beans than these

In Sarasota Dream World, we love terms, like “elite” and “world-class” and “sniper.”
Mmmmnnnn – gives us chills just to say ‘em.

And, if you’re actually also living in the real world (Toy Department, to be fair:-),
y’notice that in 2008-9, Rick was actually worthy, on occasion, with a S% of 15.2.
Pretty damned good, just short of Wow!
Then, in 2009-10, it fell to 13%. Still good, and not a great worry in a single year.
In 2010-11, fell again. No longer a one-year bump, but the beginning of a trend.
    He finished at 10.5%.
This year, trend continues. He’s down almost another 2% from last year’s not-so-
    good numbers.
THIS IS NOT A ONE-YEAR DECLINE. It’s now three and counting.
Very worrisome, if he’s Dubi, at the $4-million range. ‘Cause in a cap system, though
    $4 million’s not a killer, it’s a significant hit on a 23-man roster.
But it’s not Dubi. It’s a guy makin’ almost twice as much. So the cap impiications, as
much as Dream-Worlders dismiss them with glib and trite phrases (“we’ll cross that bridge
....” a personal fav) are, to put it mildly, humongous.

So, in the real world, Dream-Worlders are gettin’ their chills from a guy who, to echo the
rhapsodies of one of them, ”..carries, creates, and finishes” – but only does the last (the only
one that really counts, eh?) at 60% of the efficiency that he did it way back in 2008….

Could he reverse that terrible trend? Sure. It’s possible.
Could he come here and form a dynamic duo with the so-far-less-than-advertised Brad
Richards, giving the Rangers two-thirds of a dynamic scoring line, the likes of which
the opposition hasn’t had to worry about for years and years? Possible.

But a lot of evidence, outside the comfort of the “chills” words, says unlikely. Evidence from
players like him, in previous trades, and evidence from his own profile.

And Dream-Worlders are casual about the roughly $50 million anchor around his neck.
If Rick continues to be one of the worst bang-for-buck guys in the league, why, no problemo!
The new CBA will, like magic, find a way for him to disappear. Another franchise, even
more gullible than Glen’s, will do a Gomez. It will rain real cats, and real dogs!
Fans of sports teams will think critically, rationally, and long term!

    Unh-hunh. Yup. Sure. I swear it….

  126. Latona

I like these Jets too, ORR – it’d be cool for the franchise to make the playoffs their first season up at the MTS. The only thing going against them are the amount of games they’ve played.. most in the conference.

  127. jpg

Tony: ok. someone said something earlier in the season
that sounded as if management (aka Avery) said no games.
    check first….if you want.

Grabby: thanks for the info. the comment was Seinfeld reference, Lloyd Braun episode, the gang were crazy for the non-fat yogurt til they figured out it contained fat.

if anything, could use help with all the headaches i’ve been getting recently. due in large part to sinus pressure and weather constantly changing. had ct scan done, found nothing.

  128. Tony from AZ

Is that bad person gone ?
