It’s Go Time! … and Nash Time? … Live chat tomorrow

Game 55.

The Eastern leaders vs. the defending champs.  Ya boys are 4-1 vs. the Bruins the last two seasons, including 1-0 this year (in Boston).

The Rangers have won three in a row, are 7-1-1 in their last nine. Boston is 2-3 in its last five, including a shootout win over Nashville Saturday and a 6-0 loss in Buffalo last Wednesday.

Ruslan Fedotenko will be a game-time decision. So Stu Bickel or Steve Eminger would be prucha’d. Don’t know if John Tortorella wants Bickel’s snarl in the lineup for this game. Henrik Lundqvist vs. Tim Thomas in goal.

We’ll be watching closely to see if there’s retribution for Andrew Ference’s attempted maiming of Ryan McDonagh.

We will have a live chat tomorrow at noon, and I’m sure the main topic, other than tonight’s game, will be Rick Nash.

I did some sniffing around and this thing is for real. The Rangers are very interested and have no problem with the idea of adding Nash’s cap hit. The problem will be what they have to give up to get him, whether he’d waive his no-movement clause to come here, and what other teams are going to be involved if this becomes a sweepstakes. But the Rangers will be in it.

IMO, if you have to give up a relatively significant player from the lineup, a significant prospect or two, and a No. 1 draft pick, you do it. That doesn’t affect the chemistry or the lineup much at all, Nash replacing the traded player, whomever that is. Nash could be a monster on this team.

Tim Erixon, Jt Miller, McIlrath.. OK..

    Chris Kreider.. NO!!!!!!

Yes, Nash at 6’4″ 225lbs is a monster and a proven scorer. I do not want to see Dubi or Stepan go. would be OK with Anisimov…

This is unreal… I am so skittish about the chemistry being disrupted. I know that you don’t think it is a big deal, but if Dubi goes, I think it is a big deal…

Gonna be very interesting around here!

  3. Respectfully disagree with carp. Why give up anything significant for a $8MM player when there will be a few available this summer

  4. really like the chemistry on this team

  10. Enough of the Nash crap. I read today that Howson wants three young NHL ready players. That would mean stephan, AA and Hagelin plus a top prospect and a number one. The rangers would be idiotic to make that deal. I don’t want to hear either that Nash hasn’t played with anybody either. John Tavares of the islanders plays with nobodies and he has 54 points in 55 games, enough of Nash.

  11. Repost (because I thought you should know first): This just in: Rick Nash, Steve Nash, Graham Nash and Kevin Nash to Nashville with Mike York and Dick York and the Duchess of York going to New York

  12. Dubiiii February 14th, 2012 at 6:48 pm

NHL trade deadline: Tuomo Ruutu out until after Feb. 27

  16. why is Stu Bickel playing forward (again)

if the Rangers are willing to take that absurd cap hit for Rick Nash, it tells me that either the asking price isn’t all that high, or there are some guys on this roster the organization is quite willing to part with. I don’t see where the wriggle room is going to come from if they land Nash and don’t send off someone like Dubinsky in return, and it’s hard to imagine Columbus would take a Brandon Dubinsky without also getting a Derek Stepan and/or Carl Hagelin along with him.

dunno, I just don’t like Nash enough for this

  17. A big fat hell no to Nash. Great player but that cap hit scares the bejesus outta me.

    Happy Birthday to Gabby!!

  18. Nash is on pace for 26 goals and 56 points.

That’s NOT a superstar. That’s NOT what I want to pay Gomez Dollars for. That’s just a good player. We’ve already got some good players.

I say don’t do it. It reeks of moves from the past, the kind of moves that can set back a team’s development.

The Rangers are the best team in the NHL right now (You are what your record says you are). Let’s see what this squad can do.

  19. Nash is better than 56 points but that contract is going to cripple them for years without shedding some serious salary along with it.

  20. actually, with Nash, its good that he’s signed for 6 years. he’s just entering his prime now, so you want him for that time. it just seems like he’s older since he’s been playing 10 years.

but i’ll cry if they trade dubi and carl!

  21. for the love of God there’s a reason why Columbus is the worst team in the league this year…..because the entire team is struggling. so yes go the easy route and point out how Nash’s numbers are down this year. Guy is 27 years and old and is a stud. You’ll be drooling over him if he comes here and takes Dubinsky’s spot and puts up 80 points every year.

  22. Orr – It was chosen long ago and it’s not at that point in the season where NBC will be changing things around. Also, there’s a limit on Rangers games that they can air.

It’s a Bruins telecast for me!

  23. Nash’s stats suggest he’s on a decline but I’d take him at this point in his career over Dubinsky in a heartbeat. The problem is that you’re sacrificing an awful lot of cap space for a really long time and I still think they’re going to have to part with the only interesting young players they’ve got.

all bets are off if Columbus somehow picks up part of Nash’s salary btw.

  24. No to Rick Nash. Why the hating on Dubi? I don’t get it….Ranger fans are so hard to please. And why risk everything for a maybe? Paris’s is available July 1st…..hello?

  25. Jeff Gorton’s comments on Kreider earlier today make it seem like he isn’t going anywhere..

  26. the “hating” on Brandon Dubinsky is because if he’s at his absolute best, he’s a 45-point forward, I don’t care what he did in his walk year. Nash at his absolute best is roughly 25 points better than that

  27. Tiki XLII XLVI on

I was following the Boston Beanpot Final yesterday for Blogmama, did anyone hear about the Boston fan that whipped out his wiener on the jumbotron?

  28. best part of when the rangers traded gomez
    a. ryan mcdonagh b. gave them cap space to sign gaborik or c. no more scott gomez

  29. ORR – Yeah, obviously I knew about the Crosby game. That was an earth-shattering moment! ;)

Rangers aren’t watching Nash tonight at the Blue Jackets game. Not that they need to.

  82. Exactly. Players on good teams have good +/-, and not the other way around. It’s not a defensive stat. It’s not an offensive stat. It’s not a good stat at all. Good teams have good +/- and bad teams have bad +/- … idiotic stat.

  83. well, from what I read what howson wants, that’s about the package the rangers are going to have to give them. If sather does this deal he just killed everything he built to this point. The rangers are 2nd best team in points. There starting to click offensively, this would be a colossal mistake.

What a pleasure to watch, except for some Stepan faceoffs (though he was key
in goal #2, and otherwise had a nice game).

Beginning to think the best sense comes from SCX (9:43, this thread)
and others. Give THIS team a chance (I would not have shared this view
    a month ago, and I am worried they are peaking too early – see 2007 Pats;
2011 Packers); it has EARNED IT by its extraordinary commitment MOST

Then, if it falls short, as it well may, shore it up after the negotiating dust settles.

Trade for cap-killin’ contract and a guy who doesn’t bang much for maybe 10 goals more
from now ’til playoffs, and one who has no playoff resume’ to speak of, way too high
a risk for modest reward (which, I know, makes it almost irresistible for Glen.)

just not worth it with a young team that has not yet established a ceiling.

  130. We could use a veteran forward without giving up anything but a draft pick, but itd be stupid to break up our team chemistry (chemistry is more important in hockey than any other sport) and unity for a cap killing contract. “Just not worth it with a young team that has not yet established a ceiling” Correct.

  131. I don’t think we’ll have to give the farm for Nash. Not many teams can accommodate his cap hit and he has a NMC.

  132. Newsflash..THEY ARE NOT TRADING MULTIPLE PIECES FOR NASH OR ANYONE ELSE. Sather is not insane. Newsflash this team is very very good and young……………………………..

Kreider is coming soon and other top end skill guys. AA, Dubi, Stepan, guys already o nthe roster and young need to continue to just improve.
MDZ with another great backdooor feed on the PP goal.

Yep trade a 21 year old stud d men, because they grow on trees……………………..

this team is unbeleivable in the D zone…………

PAP is no superstar, but this is what happens when you trade young players who have demonstrated abilty and upside potential. And PAP was our best SO performer, before we got rid of him. Plus PAP is NOTHING compared with the pain of giving up even younger and more talented kids, such as is rumored, now.

Speculation was that because of the cap, Slat’s hands were tied at the dead-line, last year. If that is true, let’s hope this year’s cap constraint’s also render him relatively inactive when it comes to making a talent-decimating trade.

  134. Megatron -I would be more than happy to stay with the guys we’ve got. Although they’re winning, I don’t think they’ve peaked. They can and will get better.

Don’t care about the ties coach’s wear. Like to see Torts wear a Fedora, in the best Billy Reay, Punch Imlach, Milt Schmidt, Sid Abel, and of course, Toe Blake tradition.

I mean – man! you knew who was in charge in those days, the way they dressed and walked up and down the plank behind the players. Just seeing Toe Blake’s scowl from a seat on the other side of the Garden used to scare me.

  136. Okay, okay I get it, Nash does make a bit of sense, however, to clarify on my maybe with him earlier, what I meant is how he would fit with the identity of this current Rangers team and style. Of course, he is a proven player that normally I would be love to see in a Rangers jersey.
