Do-over: Ticket contest tomorrow

Sally won the ticket contest fair and square. In other words, nobody won, so I offered the tickets to her. But she can’t use them, you know, being eight hours away. Kind of a tough round trip.

So we’re going to have a do-over with tonight’s game against the Lightning. This time somebody should try to pick the correct score.

So let’s review the rules, shall we? (answer: yes).

1) This is the easy part. You pick the score, then a bunch of tiebreakers: game-winning goal, Rangers shots, Lightning’s shots. Your entry should look like this (with different numbers and names):

Rangers 17, Lightning 1. GWG: Avery. Rangers shots: 18. Lightning shots: 44.

This is new AND IMPORTANT!!!!: Don’t use NYR or Blueshirts or TB or Bolts or Lightnings or anything other than Rangers and Lightning  when you make your pick. Don’t use abbreviations, nicknames; don’t use colons, dashes or semicolons or any other punctuation between the team name and the score. Just keep it very, very simple and do it exactly like this:

Rangers 17, Lightning 1.

If there is anything other than the name of the team then a space then the score, as shown here, you may be disqualified. Then add your tiebreakers.

It just makes it much easier for me to scroll through all the entries that way. Thank you.

2) The score of the game must be exact. Not closest. Not margin of victory. You must have the exact score to move on to the tiebreakers, if needed. Note that the game-winning goal is the goal that provides the margin of victory, whether it be the second goal in a 17-1 game, or an overtime or (God forbid) winning shootout goal.

The Rangers’ shots tiebreaker shall go to the closest prediction without going over. If contestants are still tied, the Lightning’s shots tiebreaker shall be used, and also will go to the closest prediction without going over. If all remaining contestants are over the number of Lightning’s shots, the contestant closest to the correct total wins.

Finally, if still somehow tied, I will either attempt again to give the tickets to Sally or flip a coin at Blog HQ … or I will wait for the next time I see the donor at a game and let him flip the coin.

3) The most important rules regarding entry into the contest: DO NOT EVEN DREAM ABOUT ENTERING MORE THAN ONCE. I will check IP addresses from any entrant whose screen name I do not recognize. Entries open when the Thursday morning post goes up, usually before 5 a.m., and will close when the It’s Go Time! post goes up shortly after 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Only entries in the morning post Thursday will count. In other words, don’t put your predictions in any other thread.

4) Don’t get me aggravated with dumb questions or details.

5) *-The judge’s decision on all issues will be final. (*-I am the judge).

Good luck, and have fun. And don’t make your pick until tomorrow’s pre-game notes thread.

    Can’t beleve I was Carped!!!!

We lost …..and we will come back strong and come up with a win our next game. This team leads the league in a lot of categories . We have a very good team here and quite frankly no teams are giving us a break. Teams play us hard and they get a rise outta beating the Rangers. Fact is , were a very good team and we have a shot at the cup. Yes Carp believe it or not , we have a shot…and it looks like a perty darn good one.

    I said 2 – 0 , Rangers so I was the close ….

This is sooooooo bogus, I won the contest fair and square!!!!!

Not only that, but no email!!!!

The last thread was ridiculous, civil hockey talk…..what the hell do “you people” think this is? A hockey blog or something??

  5. toothpaste out of the tube theory. once you start going down that road … you end up like the National Felons League, where they’re dissecting minutia down to the millimeter, when the idea was to correct obviously incorrect calls.

Mickey, I will make an exception for you. e-mail me your entry and I will put it up in the morning.

  6. sorry, Wick. I promise we’ll be a lot more uncivil tomorrow the moment the Rangers fall behind. Or if they have a bad shift.

  7. Carp, I was kidding. There is no way I can use those tickets. Unless they come with a plane ticket and a place to stay. But thanks for making the exception :)

  8. re-post:

My suggestion for the goalie interference thing—GOD, NOT VIDEO!—is to have the linesman help with that call. The referee has to be off behind or to the side of the net to watch the puck as it comes toward the net. There are all sorts of things happening, especially in the final seconds where everybody gets away with everything … for example, if that had happened at the 10-minute mark, Volchenkov gets hooking or holding or tripping penalties at the very least. But the referee needs help there, and the linesman isn’t really doing much at that point. I don’t know why the referee has to make a split-second decision. Why not meet with the other officials and get it right?

  9. Would love to get all the calls correct, but replay would be a.huge momentum killer.

Some good fireworks in the B-lo vs Bruin game.

  10. I’m back already. Glad to see everyone grew up today!

I agree with Kerry Fraser’s synopsis and your idea on how to make the proper call, Carp.

Ria, (the not-so-silent bonehead) I’m pretty sure 30+ hours of driving means no “hanky panky,” even if there is a nap during a hockey game :D

I hope a “regular” wins the contest! Good luck everybody!

  12. Paul in sunrise on

I agree carp. There are four officials. At the time the goal is scored one is at the goal line. Two ate at the blue line and one is in center ice trying to prevent a line change.

  13. Bah. Was just looking at the schedule and not only will I miss at least the first period tomorrow for an appointment, but I don’t think I’ll be home for Saturday’s game. I might be trying to find a stream since I’ll be at the car repair place. *shakes fist at MODOT again*

  14. Well, at least the Sabres helped us out tonight…..maybe they can lend us a few goals the next time we play the stinkin’ debbies..?

  15. wait, Latona, by saying you agree with me are you really saying you disagree with me? are you trying to start something? :)

  16. That’s for me to know and you to never find out, Carp!

18 straight for the Wings at the Joe. Pretty disgusting.

  17. It sounds like Neil Smith is doing this Sharks/Flames game, but I’m pretty sure it’s not him.

  18. Mickey,

He sometimes gives commentary and analysis on NHL on the Fly/NHL Tonight, so it very well could be him.

  19. Let me try that again….

    PA Parenteau NYI 52 11 36 47
    Zach Parise NJ 53 20 27 47
    Anze Kopitar LA 54 17 30 47
    Scott Hartnell PHI 53 25 21 46

  20. After further research, Neil Smiffs does, apparently, broadcast on occasion for TSN and HNIC.

Quiet night here. I’ll give you both lunch points for just being around!

  21. Can’t wait to see amateur-hour once again rear it’s ugly head tomorrow. Lightning coming in hot, ready to dissect us. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if we got blown out.

  22. CARP, what’s with the Iginla obsession? What players would you be wiling to give up to get him?

  23. My pre-prediction:

Rangers 0, Lightning 10. GWG: Arch of Saint Louis. Rangers shots: 3. Lightning shots: 99.

  24. Id give up plenty to get Iginla. Not as much as for Ryan or Nash obviously but still plenty. Ive always admired him as a player and as a person.

  25. Lunch points just for being around? SWEET!

Olli got a hattie? It IS the apocalypse year!

NYR, shoulda went with the sliders. Mmmm, burgers. I just had a York peppermint patty. Those are addictive!

  26. Aaaaand, for carcillos and giggles:

    Rangers 3 Lightning 2. GWG:Gaborik. Rangers shots: 28 Lighting shots: 33

  27. I guess I’ll have to repost that tomorrow in the other thread. It will also give me a chance to back out of my prediction that Anisimov will score a goal.

  28. finally got1 to catch up on blog. Loved #10 from last blog, Carp. 10) Last night I wrote this paragraph: “Also, remember, if there’s a fight tonight, it is now perfectly legal to pull hair or gouge out somebody’s stitches, to go along with other new rules we’ve learned this season such as, it’s OK to come off the bench during an altercation and join that altercation, and it’s acceptable to attempt to maim somebody from behind. Just don’t celebrate a goal too much. That’s a misconduct.” … I apologize, I forgot to add that slew-footing was also legalized
